Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of the article is to investigate modern sound recording technologies; analyze the structural components that affect the sound formation of audio-visual content. The research methodology consists in the application of the following methods: theoretical method (consideration and structure of sound recording equipment as a process of transforming sound from analogue to digital and vice versa); analysis and synthesis (to analyze the work of sound recording technologies in the modern media space); systematization (a generalization of the material in the conclusions). The scientific novelty lies in the differential approach associated with the stage of sound recording perception, from analogue-digital signal to digital-analogue one, as a means of influencing the increase of sound level at the final stage. Conclusions. Under the influence of the widespread use of audio-visual content, the study analyzed the components of the sound recording equipment aspects and sound reproduction in general. Structural components that are a component of factors influencing the formation of sound have been considered in detail.

Abstract (sommario):
Acromegaly is a hormonal disorder that arises when the pituitary gland secretes excess growth hormone (GH), which in turn stimulates a concomitant increase in serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels. Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP-NET) constitute a heterogeneous group of tumours that can secrete serotonin and a variety of peptide hormones that may cause characteristic symptoms known as carcinoid syndrome or other symptoms and hormonal hypersecretion syndromes depending on the tumour’s site of origin. Current medical therapy for the treatment of acromegaly and GEP-NET involves the administration of somatostatin analogues that effectively suppress excess hormone secretion. After its discovery in 1979, octreotide became the first synthetic biologically stable somatostatin analogue with a short-acting formulation of octreotide introduced into clinical practice in the late 1980s. Lanreotide, another somatostatin analogue, became available in the mid-1990s initially as a prolonged-release formulation administered every 10 or 14 days. Long-acting release formulations of both octreotide (Sandostatin LAR and Novartis) and lanreotide (Somatuline Autogel, Ipsen), based on microparticle and nanoparticle drug-delivery technologies, respectively, were later developed, which allowed for once-monthly administration and improved convenience. First-generation somatostatin analogues remain one of the cornerstones of medical therapy in the management of pituitary and GEP-NET hormone hypersecretion, with octreotide having the longest established efficacy and safety profile of the somatostatin analogue class. More recently, pasireotide (Signifor), a next-generation multireceptor-targeted somatostatin analogue, has emerged as an alternative therapeutic option for the treatment of acromegaly. This review summarizes the development and clinical success of somatostatin analogues.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Drawing on the application of C. S. Peirce’s notion of indexicality, this paper argues that iterative imaging technologies modulate the manner in which moving images represent reality and determine how they are traced back to that referent. Rather than subscribing to the canonical divergence between analogue and digital technologies, the paper argues that current moving image theories do not sufficiently acknowledge the granularity of technology when describing indexical relationships between moving images and the reality they represent. Despite a shared use of analogue technologies, film’s technique of fixing a full frame of movement to a momentarily static strip of light-sensitive celluloid or Mylar is profoundly different from analogue video’s parsing of the image frame to its constituent parts and then recording this signal to continuously moving tape or broadcasting the resulting images. These are particularities of technique and technology, not easily ranked in terms of verisimilitude. The paper concludes that despite a widely accepted indexical analogue/digital divide, the indexical status of analogue video is no different to that of digital video images because both consist of discrete and non-continuous picture elements.

Abstract (sommario):
This article sets out to explore the phenomenon of willing digital disconnect by reconsidering and reworking some of the central ideas that currently fall under the umbrella of technological non-use. The presupposition of binary divisions between the dichotomies ‘users’–‘non-users’ and ‘analogue’–‘digital’ is put into question as the article explores the taking up of predigital technologies and the explicit and implicit disengagement from contemporary digital technologies. In short, this article asks: What does the contemporary revival of analogue technologies reveal about the social and material processes that constitute ‘use’, and what are the implications for the conceptual division of the terms analogue and digital? To answer these questions, the article draws on assemblage theory to describe the material and expressive performativity of social structure – that is, how individuals interact with technology. Empirical evidence comes from three illustrative cases where predigital technologies have replaced an existing digital alternative. Results emphasize the importance of understanding the material and expressive reconfigurations that underline technological use in a post-digital society in order to move beyond binary concepts such as analogue/digital or use/non-use as well as concepts such as the digital divide.

Abstract (sommario):
Analog circuit design plays an integral part in modern society; however, traditional approaches often fall short in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. This paper explores the application and challenges presented by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in analog circuit design. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the capacity of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning, deep learning and reinforcement learning to advance circuit modeling, optimization and layout design processes. A comprehensive literature review and analysis were performed. The study finds that while AI can make significant contributions to circuit design, several challenges must first be overcome. These include data scarcity for training AI models and the opaque nature of AI decisions which prevent their widespread acceptance. Finally, future research directions such as creating synthetic data or developing more interpretable AI models were identified as potential future research avenues.

How does traditional analogue television work? That’s a question beyond the comfort zone of most media historians who may not be familiar with analogue electronics. Even young engineers know little of thermionics, cathode rays and a myriad of other forgotten technologies. This important facet of television’s history is now only recorded by older engineers and by amateur groups who collect these technologies. In this paper, I will show by using examples how material artefacts can help us understand television’s history more fully.

Abstract (sommario):
Green food is a term related to plant-based food having properties similar to meat. The rising environmental and health concerns are the main driving forces of consumer preference for sustainable plant-based meat over animal meat around the world. Proteins needed for meat analogue development can be of plant, algae, fungi or bacterial origin. The ingredients like hydrocolloids, smoke flavourings and spices can be added to improve texture and flavour profile of products. Though commercial meat analogues of isotropic nature are manufactured by conventional extrusion technique, advanced technologies like shear cell and electrospinning can make fibrous yet tender anisotropic products that resemble very close to animal meat. The rising consumer demand for meat analogues allows a great market opportunity for manufacturers to sell products with various positioning claims like plant-based, vegetarian, high in protein, environment friendly etc. This review elaborates on ingredients and technologies used for the development of meat analogues. Also, the market potential and the feasible solutions for challenges and constraints faced by industries are discussed

Abstract (sommario):
An analogy is drawn between complex energy technologies and the evolution of biological structures. The subject is a general property of the variety of biological and ecological systems providing their existence and development in the conditions of critical changes of the external environment. The mechanisms of realization of this variety are formulated as principles: the multilevelness of both the structure and functioning of these systems; variety and division of functions, modularity of their components. At the pre-biological stage of the emergence of life as a phenomenon, these principles did not allow the overwhelming domination of any unique type of macromolecules and provided their joint, yet competing development. At the level of populations, the evolution can originate only if the speed of their internal accumulation of genetic variety surpasses the speed of a stream of events in the changing environmental conditions. In ecological systems, the stability of evolutionary processes is provided due to the internal formation of the multilevel hierarchical structure, which is combined with the variety of individual adaptive functions of different types at each level of an ecosystem. The concept of multialternativity offered as a way of understanding the mechanisms of evolution and adaptation in living organisms gives the opportunity of purposeful reproducing these mechanisms in the control systems of complex energy objects and increasing the stability of their functioning.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose. The article discusses the subject of new technologies in tourism, especially the issue of replacing analogue maps with various types of digital ones - webGIS applications, geo-search engines, geoportals, applications containing tourist maps and mobile applications containing interactive maps. The research aimed to find an answer to the question whether we are actually dealing with the dusk of traditional tourism cartography, or if analogue maps are still needed and used. The issue regarding the impact of the geospatial revolution on subsequent stages of activity related to the preparation and completion of a tourist trip/journey was also discussed. Method. A discussion was presented on the role of maps in tourism. The advantages and disadvantages of digital maps, both computer and mobile ones, were evaluated within the context of their use by tourists. Findings. These considerations allowed the conclusion that despite the clear decline in the sales of tourist guides and tourist maps, the widespread availability of various types of computer and mobile applications on the market, it cannot be that we are witnessing the dusk of traditional tourism cartography trying to replace printed materials. Research and conclusions limitations. The theses presented in the article require empirical confirmation on the basis of a larger number of examples. Although the work discusses the advantages and disadvantages of cartographic media within the context of their suitability for tourism, however, conducting research on small trials and the occurrence of very different conditions makes them be contributing in nature. Practical implications. The conclusions from the article form the basis for further research on the use of digital maps and mapping applications in tourism and their usefulness at every stage of a journey. Originality. The originality of the article comes down to two issues. First of all, in the Polish literature on this subject, relatively few authors confront the advantages and disadvantages of analogue maps versus digital ones. Secondly, the texts that have been published on this subject so far draw attention to the above-mentioned problem within the context of the specificity of maps intended for tourists and other maps used by them, only to a negligible extent. Type of work. Review article.

Abstract (sommario):
In the modern world, the benefits of animal milk are questioned due to the spread of lactose intolerance and food allergy to milk proteins among the population, as well as due to the popularization of such nutrition systems as vegetarianism and veganism. In this regard, the market is growing demand for vegetable analogues of cow's milk, which are made from cereals and legumes, nuts and seeds. This article provides an overview of the currently existing traditional technologies for creating plant-based milk substitutes that are used in mass commercial production. The main stages of technological raw materials are described. Some parameters of processing of products of plant origin are given when using their production process of plant analogues of milk, taking into account the differences when using certain types to obtain alternative milk drinks. The advantages and the degree of efficiency of various variants of thermal and non-thermal treatment are noted. Innovative ways of improving the quality of vegetable milk analogues, which have shown the effectiveness of their use in laboratory conditions, are also considered. The improvement and modernization of technologies for the production of vegetable milk substitutes make it possible to preserve more nutrients in drinks, improve their balance and, as a result, increase the benefits for the human body. The degree to which an analogue can replace traditional cow's milk depends on the level of technology progressiveness, which is very important for consumers who include such analogues in their diet. Further research in this direction will not only expand the range of healthy food products on the market, but will also contribute to improving the food security of cities and countries due to greater accessibility to the population of high-quality sources of nutrients.

Abstract (sommario):
Plant-based meat analogues are food products made from vegetarian or vegan ingredients that are intended to mimic taste, texture and appearance of meat. They are becoming increasingly popular as people look for more sustainable and healthy protein sources. Furthermore, plant-based foods are marketed as foods with a low carbon footprint and represent a contribution of the consumers and the food industry to a cleaner and a climate-change-free Earth. Production processes of plant-based meat analogues often include technologies such as 3D printing, extrusion or shear cell where the ingredients have to be carefully picked because of their influence on structural and textural properties of the final product, and, in consequence, consumer perception and acceptance of the plant-based product. This review paper gives an extensive overview of meat analogue components, which affect the texture and the structure of the final product, discusses the complex interaction of those ingredients and reflects on numerous studies that have been performed in that area, but also emphasizes the need for future research and optimization of the mixture used in plant-based meat analogue production, as well as for optimization of the production process.

Abstract (sommario):
<p>Climate analogue analysis is an approach that has been proposed in climate change impact studies to serve as a complement to climate impact projections. In this approach, a location whose present climate is similar to the projected climate of another location is investigated to learn about potential impacts of climate change, based on a real-life example. Possible response options to negative impacts may also be identified for climate change adaptation planning. The current study used the climatic distance method to determine analogue locations for Bugabira Commune in Burundi. The climatic distance was calculated from temperature and rainfall projections produced by three climate models, driven by two greenhouse gas emissions scenarios and assessed for three future time periods. Information relevant to farming systems and adaptation was then obtained through interviews that involved 450 household heads living in Bugabira (target) and Bubanza (analogue) communes in Burundi. By comparing the two farming systems using results from the analysis of the questionnaires, similarities and differences were determined. The analysis showed that crop and animal types, as well as various land management practices, were similar in both locations. Slight differences in land management strategies could only be noticed in the adoption rates of various technologies. Fifty-nine percent and 19% of farmers at the target and analogue locations, respectively, practiced contour ploughing, while 68% and 43% of farmers at the target and analogue locations practiced crop rotation. Eighty-seven percent of farmers at the target site and 58% of farmers in the analogue location applied manure to their farms. The differences in adoption rates could not be attributed to climatic or non-climatic factors. Based on the results, the study concluded that the analogues approach has low potential for the farmers of Bugabira to learn lessons for adaptation planning.</p>

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This contribution focuses on the interoperation of analogue and digital information technologies (and techniques associated with them), to ask how their interoperation has determined (and changed) what is made legible in practices associated with international institutions. It traces how the interoperation of digital and analogue technologies has supported the intensification of efficiency-maximizing institutional routines, now expressed in the so-called optimization function associated with neural networks and artificial intelligence. As a result, the terrain of contestation has shifted in significant ways from arguments over rules to pattern-recognition processes that determine efficient solutions according to optimal outcomes. Institutional practice on this new terrain aspires to a sort of immediacy, a direct engagement in the becoming of the thing(s) to which the institutional mandate may apply. This immediacy defies the reflective character associated with traditional legal practice, and assumes power by defining problems and engendering governance issues in the very act of addressing them.

The given details can be made methods of the impulsive stamping. A program complex is developed, allowing to design impulsive technologies by the method of «next-door neighbour». Data about details are presented at a few informative levels – level of general form, fragments and additional elements, relief and exactness. At level general form to present data about details as an aggregate of three basic components: bottom, walls and flanets. On the given components fragments are executed and additional elements, perceiving loading, and also local elements for placing and fastening in them of sensors, devices, key units. A program complex allows to use a few possible variants of planning: without the change of structure of analogue and parametricheskoy tuning (method of the complete borrowing of analogue); without the change of structure of analogue (method of borrowing of analogue with the parametricheskoy tuning); with the change of structure of analogue. At the near analogue of detail a revision in analogue is taken mainly to adjustment of the modes of treatment. In default of such, a few analogues are used, and all analogue is exposed to the revision and its structural units on the basis of synthesis of new technological decisions. For the tract steady in production of land of details with the near designer-technological properties a model technological process is created for the complex detail, in which are reflected basic to the aggregate of surfaces and their elements, characteristic for all tract of land. Abstract (sommario):
The current situation in agricultural production is challenging. During the last 2 decades, the agrarian production system has been deteriorating. It concerns crop rotations, moisture accumulation and moisture conservation technologies, ways of increasing soil fertility and growing environmentally friendly grain, reducing production costs and increasing product profitability. But there are forced late sowings and artificial “drought”. All this provides reasons to consider domestic breeding and seed production obsolete and to introduce the foreign analogue, which has planned negative impacts not only on quantitative, but also on qualitative safety. The article provides the solution to this major strategic problem. Under the research program of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, a highly competitive technology for the production of grain and fodder was developed on the basis of only domestic equipment that 2-5 times predominates over the best foreign analogues in functional indicators. It was confirmed by a number of state tests in 1990-2016 and approved by numerous meetings of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, RAS. The units of domestic tractors and functional machines that can compete with the best foreign counterparts have been developed.

Abstract (sommario):
In analogue and digital printing technologies, from 3 up to 12 layers of lacquer products are applied. Technological parameters significantly influence the adhesion in the coating system. This article refers to the analysis of the influence of selected technological parameters, such as the number of layers, energy doses distributed by the radiators, and line speed, on the topography and adhesion of varnish coatings formed in the process of varnishing with rollers and UV-curing systems. The appropriately prepared surface can be used as a background layer for the analogue and digital printing technology. Manufacturers must adapt the production process to the particular varnish to obtain finished products with the best possible performance properties. The state of surface free energy and finally adhesion can be assessed by theoretically determining the possibility of an adhesive bonding between the product and the substrate, taking into account the assumptions of the adsorption theory of adhesion and measurement of the contact angle (Θ). An experimental confirmation of adhesion measurements included removing the coatings from the substrate via stamps glued to the coating.

Abstract (sommario):
With the advent of television, radio lost its dominant position in many countries due to globalisation and convergence, leading to the rise of digitalisation. However, digitalisation has overshadowed traditional analogue technology. Instead of coexisting, analogue and digital technologies are now in direct competition, with digital alternatives such as podcasts and online radio posing significant challenges to analogue technology. As a result, the radio industry is currently facing severe problems to stay relevant. We conducted a study examining political economy influencing radio migration in Malaysia along with its relationship to government actions and plans. Our research reveals that the political economy perspective strongly impacts radio migration in the country. To ensure a successful radio migration, we propose the implementation of a neo-liberal perspective within Malaysia's broadcasting sector.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper is based on fifteen in-depth interviews with blind translators and interpreters from Poland. Due to the age-diverse sample of participants, three periods based on available assistive technologies have been isolated: the analogue period, the transitional period and the current, digital period. The paper discusses in detail challenges and opportunities faced by the interviewees working in each of these periods, with particular emphasis on accounts of analogue period and transition into digital technologies provided by three veteran translators. The data is analysed within the theoretical framework provided by Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of capitals. The results of the study suggest that there is a growing gap between the volumes of embodied and objectivised cultural capital indispensable for sighted and blind translators. The more technologically advanced the world of translators becomes, the more surplus technologies have to be mastered by the blind. And some of the digital tools which have become essential for translators are hardly accessible for the blind. In conclusion, the author argues that modern technologies, far from eliminating the need for additional volumes of cultural and social capital, have actually aggravated it. Unless digital translation tools and settings are made accessible blind and low sighted translators and interpreters will continue facing exclusion from the labour market. Moreover, looking at the experiences of the older generation of successful translators and interpreters with visual impairment, we can draw conclusions on what factors sup ort the inclusion of younger generations of blind translators and interpreters in the labour market.

Abstract (sommario):
The future of sport broadcasting is uniquely positioned between the analogue paradigm of long-standing television broadcast networks and the digital prototype of agile new entrants. Juxtaposed between the two, sport consumers are being marshalled into digital enclosures for efficient commodification. In this article, we map the collision and the disorderly consequences of this juxtaposition between the analogue and the digital markets. We consider the current development of digital media rights through a series of brief illustrative examples in key sports and markets and then look ahead to explore what the future of sport broadcasting might become and posit the impact of digital technologies on the business models of broadcasters, sport content owners, and consumers.

Jahrhunderts eingebettet. With them the phase shifting of Steve Reich’s music from 1967 correlates with novel visualisations and technologies. The interplay of digital identity and analogue difference with its acoustic and visual polyrhythms and patterns leads to “entropic shiftings”, which cause unusual “psycho-physical effects”. The aesthetical experience of the process-related systems is embedded into an architecture of sense of modernity in the 21st century.

Abstract (sommario):
Digitization of large format archives, in this case architectural plans, is a great challenge, not only in technical terms due to their dimensions and the nature and sensitivity of the materials, but also because of the choice of digitization equipment. As a problem of particular importance, the harmonization of archival standards is also imposed as necessary as well as the information standards, the creation of valid digital platforms and the standards prescribed in the formation of the content. Based on modern examples of practice, the study will address and explain the improved analogue technology in the form of microfilming, as well as the possibilities that it offers in the field of protection and conservation of urban documentation today in the form of manipulation of the digital record of information with analogue technologies and their mutual relationship. An example of this will be given through the presentation of the Piql program and its role in storing data that strive for authenticity and durability on media that provide the security without the possibility of losing the metadata within the network and energy consumption. The presentation will briefly show the state of analogue technologies in archival practice in Serbia and the perspectives of their future technological improvement.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper deals with technologies for the direct reuse of treated municipal wastewater. The choice of reclamation technologies is determined by the quality of the wastewater, quality criteria for the reuse applications, reliability, operational considerations and the extent of control over the total treatment sequence. Catchment quality control as well as flow and quality equalisation should be regarded as first steps and an integral part of reclamation technology. Biological treatment is of primary importance, and special attention is given to the benefits for reclamation of activated sludge processes with high sludge retention times, and to biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal. Further unit processes discussed are chemical coagulation and flocculation, solids separation, disinfection, activated carbon, reverse osmosis, stabilisation and sludge management. In discussing monitoring techniques, attention is given to instrumentation, analogue and digital transmission, flow measurement, continuous measurement of selected parameters, sampling, maintenance, visual observation, and biomonitoring. In the conclusion, examples are given of various applications of using secondary effluent with little or no tertiary treatment, and the point made that considerable impact on the conservation of water supplies can be made without resorting to complicated and expensive technology.

Abstract In this paper a survey of analog application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for low-level image processing, called vision chips, is presented. Due to the specific requirements, the vision chips are designed using different architectures best suited to their functions. The main types of the vision chip architectures and their properties are presented and characterized on selected examples of prototype integrated circuits (ICs) fabricated in complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technologies. While discussing the vision chip realizations the importance of low-cost, low-power solutions is highlighted, which are increasingly being used in intelligent consumer equipment. Thanks to the great development of the automated design environments and fabrication methods, new, so far unknown applications of the vision chips become possible, as for example disposable endoscopy capsules for photographing the human gastrointestinal tract for the purposes of medical diagnosis.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper seeks to bring to light the contemporary landscape of digital technology at the National Archives of Zimbabwe (NAZ) and its move towards the provision of access and awareness of its historical collections through technology. The institution has geared towards opening its doors to the public through outreach programmes; public exhibitions; websites; oral history projects; publications and broadcasting archives with changing circumstances. The ideology of taking the archives to the citizens has paved way for outreach archivists to do the right thing, in line with their obligations to provide access to information. The National Archives of Zimbabwe, like any other archive, preserves records that have been selected for permanent preservation because of their historical and enduring value. The paper explores the challenges faced by the public archivist in the management of traditional and analogue archives and the subsequent need for transition to digital technologies. The adoption of digital technologies in the management of public archives will enable the public archivists to provide faster and easier access to the archival materials. Digital technologies enhance information sharing and reduce redundancy of the collections. The researchers used a qualitative case study methodology with an interpretivist perspective where the main focus of the research was on the NAZ’s Public Archive. Interviews, document analysis and observations were used as the major data collecting methods. The results showed that the institution had made a good start, encouraging progress and was still working on the migration from analogue technology to full adoption of digital technology.

Abstract (sommario):
There has been considerable interest in applying electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) simultaneously for multimodal assessment of brain function. EEG–fNIRS can provide a comprehensive picture of brain electrical and hemodynamic function and has been applied across various fields of brain science. The development of wearable, mechanically and electrically integrated EEG–fNIRS technology is a critical next step in the evolution of this field. A suitable system design could significantly increase the data/image quality, the wearability, patient/subject comfort, and capability for long-term monitoring. Here, we present a concise, yet comprehensive, review of the progress that has been made toward achieving a wearable, integrated EEG–fNIRS system. Significant marks of progress include the development of both discrete component-based and microchip-based EEG–fNIRS technologies; modular systems; miniaturized, lightweight form factors; wireless capabilities; and shared analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture between fNIRS and EEG data acquisitions. In describing the attributes, advantages, and disadvantages of current technologies, this review aims to provide a roadmap toward the next generation of wearable, integrated EEG–fNIRS systems.

Abstract (sommario):
This article explores the various manifestations of analogue video in digital culture. Introducing the framing concept of an aesthetics of remanence, it argues that the “society of the spectacle” (Debord) has entered an age of retrospectacle, a dominant signifier of which is the remediation and/or simulation of analogue videography. The concept of remanence connects the material conditions of magnetic tape with analogue video’s aesthetic expressions, and the cultural situation in which analogue video finds itself today. By looking at three different cases related to retro gaming, contemporary hip hop, and “old skool” rave, the article shows how the aesthetics of remanence remains highly susceptible to subcultural sensibilities—while it also functions as their shared visual variable. The short film Kung Fury (David Sandberg, 2015) is a playfully post-ironic recuperation of failed media technologies. The music video “Fromdatomb$” (David M. Helman, 2012) is a complex exploration of the idea(l) of the historical real. And the work of video art Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore (Mark Leckey, 1999) is a creative treatment of nostalgia which invites us to reconsider the medical origins of the term.

Abstract (sommario):
The essay argues that a proper ethical foundation for the political processes underlying liberal democracy is unattainable in a globalized society made possible through networked computers – and the transformed relationship with temporality that is generated by them. The essay brings together the computer ethics of Norbert Wiener and the temporal ethics of Hans Jonas to show that both original visions for a better world are unrealizable in the unanticipated context of what is termed ‘network time’. The essay argues further that to develop an ethical basis for liberal democracy, digital logic and its effects must be contrasted with that which they ceaselessly colonize and marginalize today: an irreducibly analogue world, with analogue politics, analogue technologies and analogue humans who conceived and developed liberal democracy as a cornerstone of the project of Enlightenment. Through contrast and critique, the essay reveals the difficulty for any ethico-political project within the digital and argues that the present post-modern relationship with computing, in which ‘market forces’ determine technological forms and applications, is socially destructive and must be brought under a new aegis of democratic and common responsibility.

It follows Heidegger, Dreyfus, and Borgmann in critiquing the kinds of experience and action the Internet makes possible, and—by way of Benjamin’s concept of “aura”—argues that while mediated communication over distance might have never been easier, faster, or cheaper, this increase in our effective power comes at the cost of a diminution of the affective power of the messages carried.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract With urban space under the ubiquitous scrutiny of digital visioning technologies, the city is now imaged by means of a pixel grid containing ephemeral, qualitative data presented as colour, brightness and shape. Unlike traditional analogue pictorial representational modes, the digital image is a highly transformable mechanism with an unstable distribution of data across its pixel array. As a consequence, representation in the form of spatial abstraction demands not only a new approach to the learning and implementation of traditional disciplinary drawing practice, but a rethinking of the alignment and cooperative nature of analogue and digital drawing models when applied to effective design development. In a pedagogical context, the transition of spatial representation between analogue and digital modes has profound implications for how the student connects seminal drawing and design processes to both the sensorial realm and the physical experience of lived space. This paper therefore explores the enhancement of tertiary learning in digital and abstract literacy through new drawing techniques. Underpinned by a new relationship between representation and envisioned physical space, the techniques are applied within learning environments in parallel with existing analogue pictorial procedures. By building curriculum for foundational students that provides a framework of linked spatial experiences aligned across analogue and digital domains and coupled with tasks focused on the development of conceptual thinking, it proposes increased student success in future studios and professional practice.

Abstract Technologies for processing of digital signals find broad application in all spheres of the human activity, including agriculture. Further perfecting of these technologies is related to increasing of resolving power in analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converters, requiring the improvement of quality indicator of the reference voltage sources such as noise level. This paper presents the possibilities for level reduction of output noise of the reference voltage sources. Circuit solutions of the single-stage and twostage, unipolar and bipolar low-noise sources of stable voltage of direct current produced on the basis of standard integral chips of voltage stabilizers are observed. The proposed circuit solutions provide reduction of output noise level of the reference voltage sources to the level of intrinsic noise of the operational amplifiers, which are part of the developed devices. It should be emphasized that single-stage unipolar low-noise sources of stable voltage of direct current are characteristic by the inversion of output voltage polarity that takes place in accordance with the polarity of output voltage of voltage stabilizer integral chip.

AbstractIn this article, I explore how digital technologies in Kenya emerged as a site through which questions of citizenship were posed – if not resolved – at a moment of national crisis. I draw attention, specifically, to the ways in which developers, bloggers and state actors mobilized techno-utopian narratives about Kenya's ‘Silicon Savannah’ to advocate for what I call ‘digital citizenship’, an ethical blueprint for how best to belong to the nation. While social scientists writing about ICT in Africa have focused primarily on Africans’ novel uses of objects such as mobile phones, I contribute to this conversation by interrogating how digital technologies have been mobilized as an idiom to both challenge and perpetuate social cleavages of ethnicity and class. ‘Digital citizenship’, I suggest, compels us to revisit debates about (post)colonial history, ideologies that undergird digitality, and the formation of local, national and transnational scales of belonging.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose Esports (electronic sports) are watched by hundreds of millions of people every year and many esports have overtaken large traditional sports in spectator numbers. The purpose of this paper is to investigate spectating differences between online spectating of esports and live attendance of esports events. This is done in order to further understand attendance behaviour for a cultural phenomenon that is primarily mediated through internet technologies, and to be able to predict behavioural patterns. Design/methodology/approach This study employs the Motivation Scale for Sports Consumption to investigate the gratifications spectators derive from esports, both from attending tournaments physically and spectating online, in order to explore which factors may explain the esports spectating behaviour. The authors investigate how these gratifications lead into continued spectatorship online and offline, as well as the likelihood of recommending esports to others. The authors employ two data sets, one collected from online spectators (n=888), the other from live attendees (n=221). Findings The results indicate that online spectators rate drama, acquisition of knowledge, appreciation of skill, novelty, aesthetics and enjoyment of aggression higher than live attendees. Correspondingly, social interaction and physical attractiveness were rated higher by live attendees. Vicarious achievement and physical attractiveness positively predicted intention to attend live sports events while vicarious achievement and novelty positively predicted future online consumption of esports. Finally, vicarious achievement and novelty positively predicted recommending esports to others. Originality/value During the past years, esports has emerged as a new form of culture and entertainment, that is unique in comparison to other forms of entertainment, as it is almost fully reliant on computer-human interaction and the internet. This study offers one of the first attempts to compare online spectating and live attendance, in order to better understand the phenomenon and the consumers involved. As the growth of esports is predicted to continue in the coming years, further understanding of this phenomenon is pivotal for multiple stakeholder groups.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper examines the linguistic and communication changes taking place in poetic discourse under the influence of new media. The digital interface (blogs, social networks, applications) affects the transformation of all the parameters of communication, due to the dominance of information channels and codes. The interaction of poetic language with colloquial speech and the influence of digital technologies lead to the creation of new strategies of subjectivation and addressing in contemporary poetry, as well as to an increase in the role of poetic pragmatics. In addition, the process of meaning formation in contemporary poetry involves the mechanism of transcoding, i. e. the transfer of a message from one format to another, which can take place during the conversion from a paper (or analogue) format to a digital one. Transcoding involves a change in the form and content of the message, as well as other communication parameters. The paper classifies and explores in detail the pragmatic parameters that undergo transcoding under the influence of digital technologies, acting as new pragmatic techniques of poetic utterance.
