Nous présentons les récents développements scientifiques et techniques liés aux sources lasers infrarouges en micro-cavités à base d’alliages germanium-étain (GeSn). Four cast superalloys, Fe-base and (Fe,Ni)-base alloys, all containing 30%Cr and 0.4%C, were elaborated with addition of 3% and 6% of tantalum. Their oxidation behaviours were studied at 1000, 1100 and 1200°C during 50 hours. The oxidized surfaces of the samples were quantitatively characterized by measurements of thicknesses and surface fractions of internal oxides. The thermogravimetry files were treated according to the {m×(dm/dt) = Kp - Kv×m} equation, to obtain simultaneously the parabolic constant and the chromia volatilization constant. The internal tantalum oxides are more present in the Fe-base alloys and the carbide-free zones are less developed for the (Fe,Ni)-base alloys than for the others. The Fe-base alloys oxidize faster than the (Fe,Ni)-base and Ni-base alloys. The comparison with the corresponding Ta-free ternary alloys shows that the presence of Ta tends to accelerate the oxidation.

The superfine Fe–B–Si–Mo and Fe–B–Zr–Nb alloys were prepared by liquidus casting in which the levitation melting combining with the rapid solidification was used. The melt was poured into a copper mold at various temperatures, and a superfine granular microstructure was obtained at liquidus temperature. The behavior of Cu and Ag addition to Fe–B–Si–Mo and Fe–B–Zr–Nb alloys was studied. Both adding Cu and Ag to Fe–B–Si–Mo and Fe–B–Zr–Nb alloys had influence on refining the alloys. The refinement effect of adding Cu is stronger than that of adding Ag in Fe–B–Zr–Nb alloy.

Biodegradable metallic materials gain space in implantable materials field based on the applications that can fulfill. Beside Mg-based alloys a new class of metallic materials is under development, alloys based on Fe, in order to improve the corrosion rate, one of the disadvantages of magnesium alloys, and the mechanical properties of the implant. In this article we present the steps took to obtain a biodegradable FeMnSi alloy with metallic additions and few preliminary results about the chemical composition (X-ray dispersive energy analyze EDS) of the sample and the influence of hardening heat treatment on chemical composition. After the melting and pouring stages the new material was analyzed.

Introduction : Les alliages à base de nickel-titane-cuivre sont censés exprimer un effet mémoire de forme : refroidis en phase basse température puis soumis à une déformation apparemment plastique, ils devraient retrouver leur forme initiale par simple réchauffage en phase haute température. Les alliages à base de nickel-titane peuvent présenter différentes phases cristallographiques : martensite, austénite et une phase intermédiaire inconstante, la phase R. L’effet mémoire de forme est généralement associé à la transformation de martensite en austénite mais il peut aussi accompagner la transformation de phase R en austénite. Les températures buccales n’étant pas compatibles avec un alliage totalement martensitique, la présente étude vise, pour le 35° Copper Ni-Ti®, à rechercher la présence de phase R aux températures buccales et donc la possibilité d’exploiter l’effet mémoire de forme de la phase R en clinique. Matériels et méthodes : Trente fils 35° Copper Ni-Ti® provenant de deux lots distincts ont été consécutivement examinés par calorimétrie différentielle à balayage en cycles partiels, limités aux températures rencontrées dans la cavité buccale (de 0 °C à 50 °C). La présence d’une phase cristallographique intermédiaire a été recherchée sur les thermogrammes. Les températures de transformation ont été déterminées et les deux lots ont été comparés par le test U de Mann et Whitney. Résultats : Au chauffage, tous les fils sont passés directement de martensite en austénite. Af (moyenne = 33,5 °C, écart-type = 0,8 °C) était généralement inférieure à la température indiquée par le fabricant et une différence statistiquement significative (p ≤ 0,01) a été observée entre les deux lots. Conclusions : La présence de phase R n’a pas été détectée et les températures de transformation n’étaient pas constantes. Cette étude met en question la réalité clinique d’un effet mémoire de forme pour les fils 35° Copper Ni-Ti®.

Yttria and iron co-doped tetragonal zirconia polycrystals ((Y, Fe)-TZPs) were investigated to evaluate the feasibility for the ceramic bracket application. Presintered the (Y,Fe)-TZPs brackets were machined, abraded and coated with granule spray containing 10~50 wt% of flux. Finally, the base-coated brackets were sintered. Roughness of the coated surface was decreased to 13 um and 10 um when the flux content was 30 wt% and 50 wt%, respectively. It may be due to the fusion and the collapse of the granules as a result of the high amount of flux. Better adhesion to the base surface of the brackets and irregular shape were observed by raising the amount of flux in the slurries. Wetting angle of ethylene glycol droplet on the (Y,Fe)-TZP bare surface was determined to be 41.85°, however, the angle became 0° after the granule spraying treatments. The (Y,Fe)-TZP brackets exhibited uniform embossed base and good wetting. The newly developed base-coated bracket could be highly applicable to enhance retention and to reduce adhesive resin remnant during the bracket debonding.

Two potential novels Schiff base iron (Fe) complexes Fe-L2 and Fe-L3 (where L2= N, N'-bis (o-hydroxyacetophenone) ethylenediamine and L3= N, N'-bis (o-hydroxybenzaldehyde) phenylenediamine) were synthesized from interaction a hot methanolic solution of each ligand L2 or L3 (0.01mole) with the appropriate amount of Fe (NO3)3.9H2O metal salt (0.01mole). This study investigated the cytotoxicity induced by both complexes (0.1 to 100 µg/ml) in MCF-7 and MDA-MB 231 cell lines. After 24 hours of treatment, the cell viabilities of both MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells were linearly proportional to the Fe-L2 concentrations. A higher concentration of Fe-L2 would cause higher cell killings. On the other hand, most of the Fe-L3 concentrations caused total cell deaths for both cell lines, except for the lowest concentration (0.1 µg/ml). Fe-L2 and Fe-L3 also caused lower cell viability of MDA-MB-231 cells compared to MCF-7 cells. Overall, the obtained Fe-L3 is more toxic than Fe-L2 in breast cancer cells. It is suggested that the Fe-L3 is an excellent agent against breast cancer cells; meanwhile, the Fe-L2 is biocompatible and a good support in medical applications, especially as a radiosensitizer in radiotherapy.

Abstract (sommario):
The effects of additions of Fe and Zn on the relative stabilities of the cubic L12 and tetragonal DO22 structures in TiAl3- and NbAl3-base alloys are evaluated using ab initio electronic band calculations. The Fe or Zn distribution on the aluminum sublattice is modeled by a periodic array which corresponds to alloying additions of 12.5 or 25 at.% Fe or Zn. Addition of 12.5 at.% Fe is sufficient to stabilize the L12 structure in both TiAl3- and NbAl3-base alloys. Interpolation of the structural energy differences suggests that the DO22 and L12 structures have the same energy at ∼4.5 at.% Fe in Ti(Al, Fe)3, in agreement with experiment,1,2 and at ∼11 at.% Fe in Nb(Al, Fe)3. The L12 stabilization effect per atom of Zn in Nb(Al, Zn)3 is approximately half as large as that of Fe. The stable structure is the one for which the Fermi energy lies in a minimum in the density-of-states (DOS) distribution, as in the binary compounds. The results are explained on the basis of a simple model involving charge transfer to alloying additions on the Al sublattice.
