Abstract (sommario):
Work activity is central to human psychology. However, working conditions under capitalist socioeconomic relations have been posited as psychologically alienating. Given the negative impact of work alienation on well-being and mental health, we conducted two studies of the relations between social class, work conditions, and alienation. We also examined factors that might counteract alienation – class consciousness and activism. The utility of a Marxist measure of social class – based on objective work relations – was compared with that of SES and subjective class measures. Study 1 surveyed 240 U.S. adults from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk; Study 2 was a replication with 717 adults recruited via a sampling company. Across studies, alienation was predicted by perceived work exploitation, poor work relationships, and lack of self-expression, meaningfulness, self-actualization, autonomy, and intrinsic motivation at work. Only the Marxist class measure – not SES or subjective class measures – predicted alienation and alienating work conditions across studies. Working-class participants experienced more alienating work conditions and greater alienation. Alienation was correlated with class consciousness, and class consciousness was associated with activism. While SES measures have dominated the psychological study of social class, results suggest benefits to integrating Marxist measures and conceptions of social class.

Abstract (sommario):
(1) Objective: Parental alienation phenomenon was given an increased attention during the recent years in both the clinical and the legal fields. This study aims to introduce the development of a new parental alienation questionnaire. (2) Method: Four studies were performed. In the first two studies in which five specialists participated, the questionnaire was defined, and the inter-rater reliability was verified. The next study, which included 267 participants, sought to establish the construct validity by applying Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The last study that enrolled 200 participants considered predictive validity as well as test-retest reliability. (3) Results: Eight criteria of parental alienation have been identified: Campaign of denigration, frivolous, weak, or absurd rationale for the alienation, lack of ambivalence towards the alienating, lack of guilt or remorse about the alienation, borrowed scenarios, independent thinker phenomenon, taking the alienating parent’s side in the conflict, and spread of alienation to the extended family of the targeted parent. (4) Conclusion: The results highlighted the proper psychometric qualities of the questionnaire. The Parental Alienation Questionnaire (PAQ) seems to be a promising tool not only for clinical and judicial practice, but also for research.

Abstract (sommario):
This study qualitatively investigated the mental health of adults exposed to parental alienating behaviours in childhood. Research suggests that exposure to parental alienating behaviours in childhood can have a profound impact on the mental health of those children later in life, including experiencing anxiety disorders and trauma reactions. An international sample of 20 adults exposed to parental alienating behaviours in childhood participated in semi-structured interviews on their experience and its impact. Four themes were identified: mental health difficulties, including anxiety disorders and trauma reactions, emotional pain, addiction and substance use, and coping and resilience. Intergenerational transmission of parental alienation was found. Confusion in understanding their experience of alienation, the mental health sequelae, and elevated levels of suicidal ideation were found. This study demonstrated the insidious nature of parental alienation and parental alienating behaviours and provided further evidence of these behaviours as a form of emotional abuse.

Abstract (sommario):
Although the concept of alienation has been studied in the literature for years, it is a topic that has not lost its currency. This article delves into the enduring significance of the concept of alienation, examining its historical development, causes, and consequences within the context of organizational settings. Alienation, characterized by an individual's loss of faith in their environment and self, manifests as a disorder leading to profound loneliness and hopelessness. The study particularly focuses on workplace alienation, highlighting the inherent conflict between job demands and an employee's intrinsic nature. Organizational alienation is explored as a nuanced reflection of an individual's emotions arising from dissatisfaction within the employment context. The research conducts a thorough analysis of individual, social, and sociological consequences, unraveling the far-reaching impact of alienation on both personal and organizational levels. In response to the challenges posed by alienation in organizations, strategic interventions are proposed to mitigate its pervasive effects and cultivate a positive and cohesive organizational environment. This comprehensive exploration amalgamates insights from existing literature, providing a professional and detailed examination of the complex phenomenon of alienation. in this article, the influence of culture (Cultural Norms and Values, Communication Style, Inclusiveness and Diversity, Leadership Style, Organizational Structure, Workplace Rituals and Traditions, and Employee Recognition and Pay Systems) on organizational alienation and the importance of culture in this context are emphasized. The article contributes valuable information to deepen the understanding of alienation's implications for individuals and organizations, offering insights for developing strategies to address and prevent alienation in organizational contexts.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigated the targeted parent experience of parental alienation and alienating behaviors. One hundred and twenty-six targeted parents provided narratives in response to an open-ended question at the end of an online survey. Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis framework was used to identify themes in the data. Six themes were identified illustrating targeted parents’ experience of parental alienation and alienating behaviors. Targeted parents described physical and emotional distance separating them from their child, emotional and financial costs associated with their engagement with “systems” such as legal systems and child protection systems. They described poor mental health and concern for their child’s psychological well-being. Targeted parents considered alienating behaviors to be a form of family violence. Additionally, targeted parents used active coping behaviors. It was concluded that further research is needed to better understand parental alienation. Mental health and legal professionals must collaborate to optimize support for targeted parents.

Abstract (sommario):
After almost ten years of validity, Law 12.318/2010 (Parental Alienation Law) has been supporting several criticisms, being the target of bills aimed at its repeal, on the grounds that the alienation law opens the way for parents who practice abuse against their own children can useit as a means of defense, where after the mother's complaint against the parent about the practice of sexual abuse, he argues that the mother is practicing parental alienation in relation to him. That is, the arguments aimed at the total repeal of the law are based on the misuse of it,and that it started to serve for other purposes. In view of this, the judiciary became more cautious about the recognition of parental alienation by one of those responsible for it, requiring unequivocal proof of alienating acts. Currently mentioned law divides opinions, with both supporters and opponents of the punishment of parental alienation. In view of this divergence, bills were proposed that seek to repeal the Parental Alienation Law, therefore, it has been little applied today, and has numerous obstacles to its recognition.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Self-dehumanization is a scarcely studied process linked to stigma in minority groups that is promoted by the dissatisfaction of various psychosocial needs and is associated with antisocial or immoral behaviors. On the other hand, alienation is a subjective state of deprivation or "estrangement" from one's own nature, involving deficiencies in psychosocial needs, and predicting various types of deviant behaviors in adolescents. Objective: The aim of the following research is to verify if alienation is a predictor of self-dehumanization; and, secondly, if the experience of alienation and self-dehumanization promotes self-reported aggression in institutionalized and non-institutionalized adolescents. Methods: Sixty six “67” adolescents (27 of them institutionalized, 35 non-institutionalized) filled out self-report measures of alienation, dehumanization and aggression. Results: Through mean differences tests and various regression, mediation, and moderation analyses, it is found that the experience of alienation is a significant predictor of self-dehumanization and that both self-dehumanization and alienation (partially mediated by self-dehumanization) predict self-reported aggression. However, moderation analyses show that this is not the case for non-institutionalized minors. Conclusion: Both sets of findings allow for the consideration of interventions specifically aimed at mitigating alienating elements and problematic types of self-dehumanization. Keywords: Self-dehumanization, Alienation, Adolescence, Aggression, Institutionalization.

Abstract (sommario):
This study focuses on the themes of alienation in three fictional works of Dinaw Mengestu; “The BeautifulThings that Heaven Bears” (2007), “How to Read the Air” (2010), and “All Our Names” (2014). This research aims to investigate specifically the causes of powerlessness, meaninglessness, and normlessness forms of alienation enumerated by extracting the fundamental concern that human being faces in the course of immigration. This study deals with the major concerns and matters of the immigrants’ causes and reactions to alienation regardless of the reasons for their exodus. The main reason for focusing on the concept of alienation in the selected novels is that this area of literary theme has not been given enough attention to be studied comprehensively in the context of African (Ethiopians) immigrants’ life. Besides, no other Ethiopian literary work has portrayed on these themes of meaninglessness, normlessness, and powerlessness better than the selected three novels that have dealt with the pain and sufferings of alienation in their lives. This study tried to explore the immigrants ‘sense of alienation in the hosting country and in the process of immigration, where life as an immigrant was unbearable, forcing them to try the process of economic. An attempt was made to explore the multiple dimensions of alienation and the alienating factors based on Melvin Seeman’s aspects of alienation: powerlessness, normlessness, and meaninglessness. The selected three literary immigrant novels reveal the feelings of alienation as a central thematic preoccupation. The researcher used textual analysis to explore the selected literary works and captured the portrayal of alienation of the African immigrants which allows the understanding, process, and witnessing of human suffering.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The concept of alienation boasts a long history in the academic literature. However, their empirical relations are not clear. The purpose of this paper is to test a model of predictors and outcomes of alienation. Since occupational status plays a key role in alienation processes, such model was tested with high- and low-status workers. Design/methodology/approach Participants were 340 workers holding high-status (n=98) and low-status (n=242) positions. Data were collected through a self-report questionnaire. The authors verified the hypothesized relationships by means of a structural equation modelling, simultaneously tested on high- and low-status workers. Findings Results showed that individual determinants of alienation, i.e. locus of control, appear to play a more relevant role for high-status professionals, whereas organizational dimensions, i.e. perception of decision making, have an impact only for low-status workers. Relational variables, i.e. work-family conflict, fostered alienation, regardless the status. Concerning outcomes, alienation decreased both job satisfaction and job involvement. Research limitations/implications The specificities of the cultural context have to be considered. Generalizing the results to other cultural contexts requires caution. Practical implications Work alienation has a negative influence on work attitudes that can be better managed by the knowledge of alienation’s correlates and peculiarities. Originality/value The study confirms the relevance of alienation for workers’ satisfaction and involvement highlighting the difference between high- and low-status workers.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – This study aims to re-examine the concept of alienation, particularly from the perspective of existential psychology. While research interest continues to centre on links between human resource management (HRM) and organizational performance, such as in studies by Beer et al. (1984), Huselid (1995), Becker and Gerhart (1996) and Guest (2011), there is a growing interest in individual attributes such as employee well-being in addition to organizational performance, as mentioned in studies by Macky and Boxall (2007), Wood and de Menezes (2011) and Guest and Conway (2011). In this paper, we focus on issues related to the individual, and in doing so we suggest that HRM theory needs further development, as pointed out by Guest (2011). Design/methodology/approach – This is a paper in the tradition of critical theory that draws on both classical and modern research in the business and psychology literature. It outlines the development of the concept of alienation from its classic articulation by Marx through to the perspective offered by existential psychologists such as Blauner (1964). How alienation, thus, defined might manifest in the workplace is then discussed, as are its links to other concepts associated in the literature with positive and negative work experiences is presented. Findings – We argue that alienation needs to be addressed at two levels, namely, at the systemic level, in terms of factors external to the individual such as work and organizational systems and processes, and in terms of factors internal to the individual’s “state of mind”. We offer strategies for management to consider counterbalancing the negative effects of residual feelings of powerlessness, meaninglessness, isolation and self-estrangement that systemic change is unable to eliminate. Originality/value – The paper refocuses attention on the individual within the context of HRM, the effects of alienation and other outcomes of positive and negative work experiences such as work engagement and job burnout.

Abstract (sommario):
Parental alienation has been an unacknowledged and poorly understood form of family violence. Research on parental alienation and the behaviors that cause it has evolved out of decades of legal and clinical work documenting this phenomenon, leading to what could be considered a “greening,” or growth, of the field. Today, there is consensus among researchers as to what parental alienating behaviors are and how they affect children and the family system. We review the literature to detail what parental alienation is, how it is different from other parent–child problems such as estrangement and loyalty conflicts, and how it is perpetuated within and across different social systems. We conclude by highlighting research areas that need further investigation to develop and test effective solutions for ameliorating the devastating effects of parental alienation that, we posit, should be considered and understood not only as abusive to the child but also as a form of family violence directed toward both the child and the alienated parent.

Abstract (sommario):
The “assessment” & “alienation assessment” examination method, which analyzes how gift-exchange values shape the value of a commodity in the capitalist economic mode – focuses on analyzing “gift-giving” patterns that occur within the “supply chain” as well as the relationships between business owners, labor and commodity in the so-called “impersonal and capitalist mode”. Through ethnographic research on the third wave cultured coffee roasting business entity of "Quali Coffee Roastery", alienation and non-alienating values can also be analyzed in the capitalistic commodity production, distribution and supply chain of third wave coffee. Results from this article shows that a third wave coffee capitalist/profit-oriented organization is able to consciously determine which factors of production and distribution that can be alienated or non-alienated in its commodity production activities. Organizational culture & leadership concept presences are crucial in the deciding occurrence of alienation/non alienation pattern on one actor part of the capitalist-mode business supply chain.

Abstract (sommario):
Among sociology’s normative narratives, alienation figures as one of the most captivating, influential and contested. Anchored in Hegel and Marx, the idea of alienation generated valuable theoretical and empirical tools for explanation as well as offering a normative critique of modernity. However, I argue that the concept of alienation needs to be reconstructed, suggesting that it can be renewed via Amartya Sen’s idea of capability deprivation. The article seeks to accomplish the dual task of showing what capability deprivation can replace in the standard accounts of alienation and what can be productively retained. It reconstructs alienation’s normative core, discussing it within the context of Sen’s and Nussbaum’s versions of capabilities. Having already inaugurated a novel research program in economics and political philosophy, the article proposes that the capabilities approach can contribute to improving sociological reasoning on pressing social problems and can serve as an explanatory partner to sociology’s scientific tools. I argue, therefore, that the explanatory power and normative appeal of the concept of alienation has waned considerably and that whatever correct intuitions about human sociality supported it and gave it its impetus for several decades no longer continue do so.

Abstract The development of forensic evaluation scales is fundamental. This study's purpose was to explore the psychometric properties of a parental alienation scale. Forensic technicians completed 193 scales concerning parents involved in a lawsuit: 48 families with at least one parent indicated as the alienator (group A) and 48 families with no parental alienation claim (group B). The scale consisted of five categories and 69 items: denying access to the child; derogatory comparisons; emotional manipulation; behavior of parent and child during assessment. The results show Cronbach's alpha = .965 and split-half = .745; KMO = .884 and Bartlett's sphericity test ( p < .001). Concurrent criterion validity applied to data showed that the scale is able to distinguish between the alienator and target parent. The results showed significant and consistent standards in the instrument's psychometric characteristics.

This article is part of a debate between David Harvey, Michael Hardt and Toni Negri. It takes Marx’s bicentenary as occasion for an update of his concept of alienation. The paper asks: how are we to interpret universal alienation and from whence does it come? Marx radically reformulated the concept of alienation in the Grundrisse. The humanism of the early Marx can be re-rooted and reconceptualised in the scientific mode proposed in the Grundrisse. In the Grundrisse, the universality of alienation is specific to capitalism’s historical evolution. Today, alienation exists almost everywhere. It exists at work in production, at home in consumption, and it dominates much of politics and daily life. Such trends intensify through the application of information technologies and artificial intelligence. Widespread alienation has resulted in Occupy movements as well as right-wing populism and bigoted nationalist and racist movements. Donald Trump is the President of alienation. The circulation of capital as totality consists of the three key moments of production, circulation and distribution. A lot of contemporary economic struggles are now occurring at the point of realisation rather than at the point of production. Protests are therefore today often expressions of broad-based discontent. Our future is dictated by the need to redeem our debts. Under such conditions democracy becomes a sham. The big question is what forms of social movement can help us get out of the state-finance nexus. The theory of objective alienation along with an understanding of its subjective consequences is one vital key to unlock the door of a progressive politics for the future.

Abstract (sommario):
In order to investigate the current situation of alienation among medical students, this study adopted the convenience sampling method to select students from a medical university in Guangxi, China as the research objects and measured the alienation level of medical students through the General Information Questionnaire and the Adolescent Alienation Scale. Results: ①The overall level of medical students' alienation was low, nevertheless social alienation and environmental alienation were slightly higher than interpersonal alienation. ②In the context of the coronavirus pandemic, medical students have a high sense of alienation and meaninglessness in their living environment. However, meaninglessness is the highest in the dimension of social alienation, loneliness is the highest in interpersonal alienation, and living environment alienation is the highest in environmental alienation. The alienation level of boys is slightly higher than that of girls. ③Grade, family economic level, and whether there is only one child are important factors affecting medical students' sense of alienation. Among them, the sense of alienation of freshmen is significantly lower than that of sophomores, juniors, and seniors in all dimensions. The level of alienation in the third year each dimension is higher. Poverty-stricken students and children from One Child Families have a high level of alienation, so mental health education in the medical university should be attached great importance.

Abstract (sommario):
Alienation is a term that has been used by many thinkers in the past, including Hegel and Karl Marx. Every thinker gives its meaning differently. Hegel supposed that this alienation's discussion is important in relation to the emerging of consciousness or the feeling towards the otherness. Karl Marx discussed about alienation when he concerned about the fate of labors that had been exploited by the bourgeoisies. It is explained in this article, Fromm has been influenced by both thinkers, but he also criticized them that their applications to solve human alienation conditions always find the deadlock because they simply focused to single aspect only. Fromm proposed an idea that to heal the ill modem society; they should perform the change not only in single aspect oflife but also the change in all aspects simultaneously such as industry and political organization, spiritual, philosophical orientation, human character structure and cultural activity. Fromm assumed that to create healthy society, it starts from the self awareness. This is identical to human nature as the aware and foremost creature.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper gives an overview of the phenomenon of terrorism as a form of man from man alienation starting from the ancient philosophical schools and ending with Hegel, Marx and Fromm. In the paper is used the method of analysis of the philosophical (ethical) aspects of human alienation from man with special reference to Hegel, Marx and Fromm theory of alienation as a general phenomenon in interpersonal relations and terrorism as a special form of human alienation of man from man. According to philosophers, especially to Hegel, Marx, and finally Fromm, modern man is a slave to objects, be they immovable and movable objects, and above all, a slave to money, as objects. As a slave to objects, running after them and grabbing them in order to have as many, as possible and as modern, better, bigger, etc. man forgets himself. He is alienated from himself, from his generic being and instead of enjoying life, he is enslaved to it. By alienating oneself, the man alienates himself from other people, as well. Alienated people do not live emotionally with their fellow citizens. They live next to them. They are lonely in the crowd around them. Individually or organized in social groups: associations of citizens, parties or states, understood as human organizations, ie national societies, they, in the struggle to have, strive to have alien: alien power, alien space, alien territory, alien natural wealth, oil, gas etc. Loaded with that aspiration, they work to conquer alien. Striving for alien, they often reach for it. People who own alien, strive to preserve their ownership. There is a conflict between those who strive to take the ownership of other and those who want to keep it as their own. The conflict evolves to unintended proportions. The fruit of the evolution of the conflict, among other things, is terrorism, as the highest form of man from man alienation in peace time. Contemporary forms of terrorism, as a form of man from man alienation, have their own historical evolution. The philosophical-historical approach to them will contribute to a deeper understanding of terrorism as a form of alienation of man from man, which is very important for its prevention in the present and the future.

Abstract (sommario):
The article actualizes the problem of the possibilities of achieving freedom in civil society. The authors consider this problem through the analysis of the conceptual essence of the phenomenon of “social contract” in its relationship with the concept of alienation. Purpose of the article: to analyze the concept of alienation in versatile historical interpretations of historical and socio-philosophical thought. The article examines the views of Rousseau on the relationship between citizens and the state. The texts of Hobbes, Locke, Hegel and Marx, which considered the concept of alienation, are analyzed. The article substantiates the escalation significance of the socio-philosophical understanding of the state of “civil” freedom, analyzes the essence of the general logic of legal consciousness, identifies the main positions of Rousseau’s concept, which defines a social contract as a dialectical unity of alienated potentials that form a dynamic whole “political machine”. The article also details the positions of Hobbes, Locke, Hegel and Marx, given in comparison with the views of Rousseau. The category of “alienation” is analyzed in the context of specific relations between the subject and his definite function, arising as a result of the loss of the initial integrity/unity and being a predictor of the impoverishment of the nature of the subject itself, leading to the transformation of the function itself. The article concludes about the relevance of Rousseau’s theory of alienation for socio-philosophical knowledge. The authors come to the conclusion that the concept of alienation in versatile historical interpretations makes a full turn before returning to its most “balanced” interpretation - Rousseau’s “social contract”. These provisions remain relevant today. The social contract destroys the “natural” generic quality of a person - to be free, alienating her arbitrary, and often just random gifts in favor of a voluntary association that rationally uses all possible and ultimate values of this ideal and real state of a person burdened with social duty.

Abstract (sommario):
It is intended to observe how technological changes have promoted changes in society, however it seems that one thing remains the same: the use of the media as a technology of alienation. This observation will be carried out methodologically through a theoretical and exploratory research, seeking a review of concepts that refer to the uses and effects of the media. In this sense, the hypothesis is that the idea that in the sense of alienating use of means there have been no major changes. The means, by extending human perception, seem not to have produced an effect of liberating consciousness, but rather, it has expanded the process of mystification and alienation, through the massification of information, creating an internetilization, a massification through digital media.

This paper aims to address the importance of the family as an affective, socializing and educational institute, as well as its evolution over the years, including analyzing aspects of family power and custody modalities. It is known that the family is a mirror, a guiding principle so that the child's best interest is in fact served. The family problematization known as parental alienation will be approached in order to expose this matter to society in an enlightening way and to facilitate the identification of the problem, including demonstrating the effects caused by parental alienation and the movements in defense of it. In addition, considerations will be made about Law 12,318 / 10 including the possibility of civil liability in the face of acts arising from the alienating person.

Abstract (sommario):
This article is a study of all Quebec custody cases dealing with parental alienation in 2016. It explores the definitions, findings and implications of parental alienation in legal disputes, in light of the models of parental alienation and parental alienation syndrome described in the academic literature. This research confirms feminists’ skepticism toward the use of parental alienation in custody litigation. It concludes that alienation has varying and inconsistent definitions in law, that there is a considerable disconnect between scientific knowledge and judges’ understanding of alienation, and that the concept of parental alienation in law is ambiguous and over-inclusive, seemingly to the detriment of mothers. There is a dire need for clearer and stricter guidelines on the use of parental alienation to ensure the accuracy, coherence, and fairness of the case law.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT Parental alienation of the elderly, or inverse parental alienation, does not have specific legislative rules, although there are cases of alienation practiced by children, caregivers or people close to the elderly, which cause damage to both estudothe alienated person and the elderly themselves. The purpose of this research is to study if the alienator can be held civilly responsible for the practice of reverse alienation. The hypothesis is that the alienator's civil liability arises when it occurs the violation of the duty to protect the elderly, with the practice of conduct foressen in Law No. 12.318/2010, which, although regulating parental alienation practiced in the face of children and adolescents, can be applied analogously in the case of reverse alienation. To reach the objective, the deductive method was used, starting from general premises to reach a specific conclusion. The research procedure was to consult the legislation, especially the Federal Constitution of 1988, the Civil Code, the Elderly Statute (Law No. 10.741 / 2003) and the Parental Alienation Law (Law No. 12.318 / 2010), as well as the doctrine and the jurisprudence. In the end, the hypothesis was confirmed, concluding by the alienator’s liability in cases of reverse alienation, by setting compensation for moral damages caused to the alienated person and the elderly. KEYWORDS: Elderly; Inverse Parental Alienation; Civil Responsability.

I begin to suggest an alternative to the notion of vision based in alienation and hostility put forth by Jean-Paul Sartre, Sigmund Freud, and Jacques Lacan. I diagnose this alienating vision as a result of a particular alienating notion of space presupposed by their theories. I develop lrigaray's comments about light and air to suggest an alternative notion of space that opens up the possibility that vision connects us to others rather than alienates us from them.

Abstract (sommario):
In this article, we explore Beauvoir’s account of what she claims is an alienated relation to our ageing bodies. This body can inhibit an active engagement with the world, which marks our humanity. Her claims rest on the binary between the body-for-itself and the body-in-itself. She shares this binary with Sartre, but a perceptive phenomenology of the affective body can also be found, which works against this binary and allows her thought to be brought into conversation with Levinas. For Levinas, the susceptibility of the body is constitutive of our subjectivity, rather than a source of alienation. If we develop Beauvoir’s thought in the direction of his, an ontological structure is suggested, distinct from Sartre – a structure which makes room for her pervasive attention to affectivity.

Abstract (sommario):
Is it ever permissible for the state to formally recognize one religion? This article focuses on just one aspect of this complex question. To be specific, a critical examination is conducted of what will be called the alienation argument against establishment, according to which this sort of connection between religion and the state is wrong to the extent that it makes some people feel alienated. Whilst this argument is often dismissed in contemporary academic analyses, considerations of this kind are frequently heard in political commentary and public debate. In this article, the three most important criticisms made of the alienation argument, which are referred to as psychologism, indeterminacy and falsity, are discussed. By arguing that it may be possible to rebut these three objections, at least to some extent, the aim of the article is to mount a partial defence of the alienation argument against religious establishment. Its conclusion is that feelings of alienation should play a significant role in making all-things-considered judgements about the justifiability of particular instances of establishment.
