The Aerosol Interaction and Dynamics in the Atmosphere (AIDA) cloud expansion chamber with a volume of 84 m3 was extended for the small cloud expansion chamber AIDA mini (AIDAm) with a volume of 20 L. AIDAm is located in the cold room of AIDA and can perform automated ice-nucleation measurements over longer time periods of hours to days. AIDAm samples from the AIDA chamber, which acts as a reservoir of atmospheric aerosol types, which can slowly be modified by physical or chemical processes similar to those occurring in the atmosphere. AIDAm was validated for accurate ice-nucleation temperature control by measuring homogeneous freezing of pure water droplets at temperatures around −34 °C and for immersion freezing induced by dust aerosol particles in the temperature range between −20 and −30 °C. Further validation experiments at cirrus cloud temperatures of −45 °C revealed that AIDAm can distinguish between heterogeneous ice formation on mineral dust aerosols and homogeneous freezing of sulfuric acid solution particles. The contribution of homogeneous and heterogeneous ice formation processes to the ice-nucleation activity of coated dust particles was investigated in a 7 h long experiment, where solid dust particles were slowly coated with sulfuric acid. The continuous AIDAm measurements with a time resolution of 6 min showed a substantial suppression of the heterogeneous freezing phenomenon and an increasing role of homogeneous freezing while the coating amount was slowly increased. This experiment proved the capability of AIDAm to sensitively detect small changes in the ice-nucleation ability of aerosols, which undergo slow processing like chemical surface coating.

ABSTRACT The Escherichia coli adhesin involved in diffuse adherence (AIDA-I), like many other autotransporter proteins, is released in the periplasm as a proprotein undergoing proteolytic processing after its translocation across the outer membrane. The proprotein is cleaved into a membrane-embedded fragment, AIDAc, and an extracellular fragment, the mature AIDA-I adhesin. The latter remains noncovalently associated with the outer membrane and can be released by heat treatment. The mechanism of cleavage of the proprotein and its role in the functionality of AIDA-I are not understood. Here, we show that cleavage is independent of the amount of AIDA-I in the outer membrane, suggesting an intramolecular autoproteolytic mechanism or a cleavage mediated by an unknown protease. We show that the two fragments, mature AIDA-I and AIDAc, can be cosolubilized and copurified in a folded and active conformation. We observed that the release by heat treatment results from the unfolding of AIDA-I and that the interaction of AIDA-I with AIDAc seems to be disturbed only by denaturation. We constructed an uncleavable point mutant of AIDA-I, where a serine of the cleavage site was changed into a leucine, and showed that adhesion, autoaggregation, and biofilm formation mediated by the mutant are indistinguishable from the wild-type levels. Lastly, we show that both proteins can mediate the invasion of cultured epithelial cells. Taken together, our experiments suggest that the proteolytic processing of AIDA-I plays a minor role in the functionality of this protein.

Background: Sarcoidosis is an immune-mediated disease. Cardiac involvement, a granulomatous form of myocarditis, is under-recognized and prognostically relevant. Anti-heart autoantibodies (AHAs) and anti-intercalated disk autoantibodies (AIDAs) are autoimmune markers in nonsarcoidosis myocarditis forms. Objective: The aim was to assess serum AHAs and AIDAs as autoimmune markers in cardiac sarcoidosis. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study on AHA and AIDA frequency in: 29 patients (aged 46 ± 12, 20 male) with biopsy-proven extracardiac sarcoidosis and biopsy-proven or clinically suspected and confirmed by 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and/or cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cardiac involvement; 30 patients (aged 44 ± 11, 12 male) with biopsy-proven extracardiac sarcoidosis without cardiac involvement (no cardiac symptoms, normal 12-lead electrocardiogram, echocardiography and CMR), and control patients with noninflammatory cardiac disease (NICD) (n = 160), ischemic heart failure (IHF) (n = 141) and normal blood donors (NBDs) (n = 270). Sarcoidosis patients were recruited in two recruiting tertiary centers in the USA and Italy. AHAs and AIDAs were detected by indirect immunofluorescence on the human myocardium and skeletal muscle. Results: AHA and AIDA frequencies were higher in sarcoidosis with cardiac involvement (86%; 62%) than in sarcoidosis without cardiac involvement (0%; 0%), NICD (8%; 4%), IHF (7%; 2%) and NBD (9%; 0%) (p = 0.0001; p = 0.0001, respectively). Sensitivity and specificity for cardiac sarcoidosis were 86% and 92% for positive AHAs and 62% and 98% for positive AIDAs, respectively. AIDAs in cardiac sarcoidosis were associated with a higher number of involved organs (p = 0.04). Conclusions: Serum AHAs and AIDAs provide novel noninvasive diagnostic autoimmune markers for cardiac sarcoidosis.

The AIDA-I autotransporter adhesin, as a prototype of the AIDA adhesin family, represents a tripartite antigen consisting of the functional adhesin AIDA-I (α-domain), which mediates the specific attachment of bacteria to target cells, and a two-domain translocator (AIDAc) organized in the β 1- and β 2-domains. Cellular receptor moieties for the adhesin AIDA-I have not been identified. Here, it is demonstrated that the purified adhesin binds specifically to a high-affinity class of receptors on HeLa cells. Additionally, the adhesin was found to bind to a variety of mammalian cell types, indicating a broad tissue distribution of the receptor moiety. By using complementary techniques, including co-immunoprecipitation and one- and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, the AIDA-I binding protein on HeLa cells was identified as a surface glycoprotein of about 119 kDa (gp119). The gp119 AIDA-I cellular receptor protein was characterized biochemically and found to be an integral N-glycosylated membrane protein with a pI of 5·2.

Bakalauro darbas „Protėvių aidas” atspindi šių dienų aktualijas, paliesdamas visuomenei svarbų klausimą apie mūsų senovės baltų kostiumą. Nagrinėjamos aprangos dalys ir fragmentai šių dienų aplinkoje, aiškinamasi kaip baltiškumo simboliai atsispindi drabužių kolekcijose. Analizė buvo atliekama siekiant geriau susipažinti su senovės baltų apranga ir suprojektuoti moteriškų drabužių kolekciją. Pirmame skyriuje analizuojami baltų aprangos istoriniai ypatumai, moterų drabužiai, papuošalų nešiojimas kaip pagrindinis dekoro elementas. Antrame darbo skyriuje nagrinėjami archeologų, filosofų, menininkų pagrindimai, argumentai apie baltų kultūros problemas. Argumentuojami dizainerių pasisakymai apie baltiško kostiumo interpretavimą šiandien. Trečiajame skyriuje pateikiamos įvairios baltų kostiumo refleksijos lietuvių kostiumo dizainerių kūryboje, menininkų kūrybinių darbų pavyzdžiai, bei įvairių autorių sukurtos drabužių kolekcijos. Ketvirtame skyriuje pristatomi lininių drabužių ansamblių vizualūs baltiško kostiumo meniniai ieškojimai, formų, faktūrų, simbolių, kolorito ypatumų analizė, siekiant tai interpretuoti drabužių kolekcijoje, pagrindžiama idėja, pateikiami eskizai, projektai, technologiniai mėginiai, aprašomas drabužių ansamblių kūrimo procesas – konstravimas, modeliavimas, siuvimas. The Bachelor’s Work “The Echo of the Ancestors” reflects the urgent problems of recent time. It touches upon a subject of the ancient Baltic costume. The parts and the fragments of the clothes are analyzed in the modern surroundings. It is explained how the Baltic symbols are reflected in the collections of clothes. Analysis was made in order to find out more information about the ancient Baltic clothes and to design the collection of female clothes. Historic features of the Baltic female clothes, wearing jewelry as the main element of decoration are analyzed in the first chapter of this work. The main arguments about the problems of the Baltic culture given by archeologists, philosophers and artists are given in the second chapter of this work. The designers’ attitude towards the modern interpretation of the Baltic costume is also disclosed here. Different reflections of the Baltic costume in the creative works of Lithuanian costume designers, the examples of creative works and collections of different authors are described in the third chapter. Presentation of the linen collection of clothes by showing artistic search for Baltic costume is given in the fourth chapter. There is also analysis of peculiarities of form, texture, symbols and colors in order to interpret it in the clothes collection there is a well-founded idea. Abstract (sommario):

I geografiske informasjonsgjenfinningssystem vektlegges ord og fraser som angir en geografisk lokasjon på jordens overflate. Det er ofte behov for å kunne identifisere stedsnavn, slik at disse kan være med på å danne grunnlaget for indeksering av dokumenter. Systemet AIDaS identifiserer stedsnavn i norske nyhetstekster. AIDaS har oppnådd svært gode resultater med precison og recall på henholdsvis 80,7 og 86,7 prosent. Andre systemer som identifiserer stedsnavn i norske tekster har ikke oppnådd fullt så gode resultater. AIDaS er med andre ord et system som er godt egnet til å identifisere stedsnavn i norske nyhetstekster. Utviklingen av AIDaS bygger på mitt høstprosjekt der jeg utviklet en abstrakt løsningsmetode for å identifisere stedsnavn. Da denne løsningsmetoden ble implementert i begynnelsen av dette prosjektet viste det seg imidlertid at den inneholdt noen svakheter. Med utgangspunkt i disse svakhetene og et oppdatert litteraturstudium utviklet jeg en ny løsningsmetode som også ble implementert. Systemet som ble implementert er kalt AIDaS. Litteraturstudiet tok for seg to engelske systemer som fikk svært gode resultater under MUC-7, Language Technology Group System og NetOwl Extractor System. Jeg så også på det norske systemet ARNER. AIDaS er utviklet basert på ideer fra disse systemene og en abstrakt løsningsmetode utviklet i høstprosjektet. AIDaS er et regelbasert system som identifiserer stedsnavn i norske nyhetstekster. Det vil si at AIDaS bruker regler for å klassifisere egennavnene i tekstene. AIDaS bruker også flere ressurser, blant annet Oslo-Bergen taggeren. Reglene AIDaS bruker er utviklet med tanke på språket som brukes i nyhetstekster. Reglene ble utviklet ved hjelp av et treningssett fra Bergens Tidende. I slike tekster blir personer ofte godt introdusert med tittel og eventuelt hvilken organisasjon de har tilknytning til. Ved hjelp av konteksten er det dermed lett å lage regler som kan klassifisere personnavn og organisasjonsnavn som typen annet. Stedsnavn blir imidlertid ikke godt presentert i nyhetstekster. Men siden det er lett å finne typen annet i fra konteksten er det mulig å lage generelle regler som kan skille sted fra typen annet. AIDaS bruker som nevnt flere ressurser. Den viktigste ressursen er Oslo-Bergen taggeren. Oslo-Bergen taggeren er en ekstern ressurs som tilordner et ord en eller flere ordklasser. Alle ordene som er i en tekst blir tagget og informasjonen brukes når egennavnene klassifiseres. Som hjelpemiddel under klassifiseringen bruker AIDaS også semantiske sett og lister med egennavn. De semantiske settene er grupperinger av ord som har lignende semantisk innhold og som kan hjelpe til med klassifiseringen. Listene med egennavn brukes sammen med reglene for å bestemme hvilken type et egennavn er. AIDaS ble evaluert på en samling bestående av 50 nyhetsartikler, også fra Bergens Tidende. Før evalueringen begynte ble samlingen lest gjennom manuelt og egennavn ble klassifisert i to typer, stedsnavn og annet. Resultatet til AIDaS ble sammenlignet med den manuelle klassifiseringen. Evalueringen viste at AIDaS er et system som er godt egnet til å identifisere stedsnavn i nyhetstekster. Skal systemet derimot skal brukes på andre samlinger, som for eksempel skjønnlitteratur, er det helt klart nødvendig med flere regler. Dette fordi personer og organisasjoner ofte blir presentert med for eksempel titler eller lignende i nyhetstekster.

I följande uppsats har en nyfikenhet kring hur högläsning och boksamtal används i förskolor varit huvudområdet. Det har undersökts på tio utvalda förskolor och bland tio yrkesarbetande utvalda pedagoger. Genom observationer på två förskolor och en enkätundersökning bland tio yrkesarbetande pedagoger på tio utvalda förskolor har Marie-Anne Lyckman och Ann-Cathrin Jönsson kommit fram till ett resultat och en tolkning av det. Detta redovisas i två metoddelar för respektive förskola samt en metoddel för enkätfrågorna till de tio utvalda pedagogerna. Tillsammans med varje metoddel finns en resultatdel. Vad forskare och teoretiker beskriver i sin litteratur har tillsammans med metoder och resultat bildat en helhet där tolkningar och undersökningar blivit diskuterat.

Study of the documentation pertaining to the evolution of Verdi's operas from Ernani (1844) to Falstaff (1893) reveals that, in many cases, the composer was pre-eminently the creator of large parts of the texts. Verdi worked very closely with his poets and other advisors preparing and reviewing synopses and groundplans, writing scenarios and draft prose librettos, before the versification of the final text was undertaken. Draft libretto materials and the correspondence between Verdi and his librettists are in various states of preservation. With the exception of Aida, however, not a single opera is represented by a complete array of preparatory libretto materials and correspondence that represents each step in the construction of a versified libretto. A complete collection of the autograph libretto documents for Aida (1870-71) exists in Verdi's villa at Sant'Agata. The collection contains a French-language scenario by Auguste Mariette; modifications made to the scenario by Camille Du Locle and Verdi; a prose libretto for the complete opera written by Verdi; and the drafts and revisions of the versified libretto written by Antonio Ghislanzoni under Verdi's supervision. For a considerable time these autograph mss. were not available for study. In 1979, the American Institute for Verdi Studies in New York received permission to film the collection for its archive. Study and comparison of these texts has made it possible to explore fully the extent of Verdi's involvement in the creation of the Aida libretto and, ultimately, to recognize him as principal librettist for this opera. This dissertation contains eight chapters and seven appendices. Chapter I explores the extent of Verdi's participation in the writing of the librettos for his operas (except Aida). Chapter II studies the musicological literature dealing with Verdi as librettist. The peculiar history of the scholarly (and unscholarly) literature about the Aida libretto is reconstructed in Chapter III. Chapter IV recounts the genesis of the Aida project in the light of Verdi's correspondence. Chapter V comprises a comparison of Mariette's scenario and the modifications made to it by Verdi and Du Locle. Verdi's prose libretto, which is based on the Mariette scenario and the modifications as well as new material written by Verdi himself, is studied in Chapter VI. Of particular interest is the fact that in his prose libretto Verdi created a musical masterplan for the entire opera: throughout the new text, the composer imposed his musical requirements by prescribing the layout of the recitative and lyrical sections when such treatment was not easily discernable in the prose dialogue. Chapter VII explains the lack of order in the manuscript containing Ghislanzoni's first draft and revisions of the versified Aida libretto. In the final chapter, the Ghislanzoni manuscript is studied in the light of Verdi's extensive role in the versification process. Four pertinent facts are made clear: Verdi provided Ghislanzoni with the complete prose libretto, which served as the basis of the versification; Verdi continued to create new prose models for scenes he perceived to be perplexed by serious faults once he had studied Ghislanzoni's poetry or had attempted to set it to music; the composer insisted that the poet retain all items of dialogue and stage directions given in Verdi's model libretto; by a continuous interchange of letters with Ghislanzoni, Verdi exposed a whole series of interrelated problems in Ghislanzoni's drafts, and proposed possible solutions for each. Clearly, Verdi was principal librettist of this opera. The seven appendices contain texts from the autograph manuscripts given in microfilm 56 in the Archive, American Institute for Verdi Studies, New York, translations of Italian-language librettos contained therein, and an overview of Italian prosody.

Ce travail se place dans le contexte du détecteur de vertex (VXD) composé de capteurs CMOS pour l'ILC, et dans celui du télescope en faisceau du projet européen AIDA. La thèse inclut les tests en faisceau des éléments du télescope AIDA : les super-plans SALAT et les échelles double faces PLUME. Elle questionne la valeur ajoutée en terme d'alignement, des couches double faces de capteurs CMOS pour le VXD de l'ILD. Une nouvelle méthode d'alignement autonome de chacune des 3 double couches du VXD grâce aux mini-vecteurs construits sur chaque zone de recouvrement inter-échelle est proposée et a été testée avec des particules de haute impulsion. This work was conducted in the context of a vertex detector (VXD) composed of CMOS sensors for ILD and in the context of the beam telescope of the european project AIDA. The provides the results of beam tests for the new telescope components : the SALAT super-planes and the PLUME double sided ladders. The thesis adresses the added value in terms of alignment, of double sided layers of CMOS sensors for the VXD of ILD. A new standalone alignment method of each of the three double sided layers of VXD with the mini-vectors built on each overlapping zone between the consecutive ladders is analysed. Such alignment was validated with high momentum particles. However, only the beam background particles, with lower momentum, can provide the minimum statistic for this kind of alignment. Thus, the beam background noise was studied and the occupancy rate of the VXD sensors was studied. This led to a reassessment of the readout speed for the sensors of each layer of the VXD

The 2019 AIDAA Congress is the biennial Congress of the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Italian no-profit cultural association dedicated to the aerospace community. AIDAA was formed in 1969 through a merging of the former Societies AIDA (Associazione Italiana di Aerotecnica formed in 1920) and AIR (Associazione Italiana Razzi).In 1951, AIDA was among the founders of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and in 1957 of the International Council of Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS). In 1992 AIDAA joined the Confederation of European Aerospace Societies (CEAS).The Congress is jointly hosted by AIDAA Rome Section, the Departments of Astronautic, Electric and Energetic Engineering (DIAEE) and of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMA) of Civil and Industrial Engineering Faculty and the School of Aerospace Engineering (SIA) of Sapienza University of Rome. The degree courses in Aerospace Engineering are attended by almost 1500 students.
