Abstract (sommario):
Coconut mite, Aceria guerreronis, Keifer, which made its first appearance as pest in Mexico in 1965 as reported by Keifer, has spread far and wide. Now that 37 years have passed. Research efforts have been made on various aspects of this pest like, origin, occurrence, dispersal, symptoms, population dynamics, management practices like chemical control, bio control, cultural practices, varietal resistance/ tolerances, natural enemies, phytosanitary efforts etc. Two international seminars/ workshops have been held. Many group discussions, steering committee meetings, etc. were also held. Lots of publications have come. An earnest attempt has been made to collect the available literature on this pest which can benefit the member countries and others to know what has been done and what directions one has to move for future research and development. However, this bibliography is not the completed one. There may be many more and we will update as and when we get access to those references. We are confident that this bibliography will help to avoid duplication and take up need based research and development on Eriophyid mite.

Abstract (sommario):
A sample of goji leaves with blisters was brought from a private garden in Vyšná Kamenica to the Botanical Garden of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice to identify the problem. The respective plant (Lycium chinense Miller cv. Big Berry) was bought through the internet and these distortions occurred after some time during cultivation. The mites found on the deformed leaves were examined using a light microscope and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) as well. The identity of Aceria kuko (Kishida, 1927), the goji berry gall mite, was confirmed. Other available possible host plants in Košice and the surroundings were checked with no positive findings. However, typical foliar galls on goji plants have been indirectly observed (through the television) in Malinovo near Bratislava. Due to the risk from this mite species not only to the goji (Lycium sp.) but also to the pepper (Capsicum annuum Linnaeus) and some other Solanaceae plants, the respective authorities of the Slovak phytosanitary service were informed.

Abstract (sommario):
A new species of eriophyoid mite from Australia is described and illustrated. Aceria thalgi sp. n. causes severe curling and rolling of leaves of common introduced sowthistle, Sonchus oleraceus L. It also affects introduced Sonchus asper (L.) Hill and native Sonchus hydrophilus Boulos. The native species may be the original host for this mite. Aceria thalgi sp. n. is shown to be a separate species to Aceria sonchi (Nalepa), which forms distinctive leaf galls on Sonchus spp. in southern Europe. English translations of past descriptions of A. sonchi are included for comparison. Historical observations and records from New South Wales suggest that A. thalgi sp. n. has been known for at least 80 years prior to its recent rediscovery in Western Australia. This implies that the newly described species may be widespread across the continent. There is also a past record of similar damage symptoms occurring on sowthistles in New Zealand. Aceria thalgi sp. n. has the potential to be a useful biological control agent in Australia and Canada, where sowthistles are major weeds of agriculture.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper reports on eriophyoid mites of the genus Aceria Keifer (Eriophyoidea, Eriophyidae) associated with Tamarisk plants (Tamarix spp., Tamaricaceae) in Egypt and South Africa. Three new Aceria species are described: A. aegyptytamaricis n. sp. causing green galls on buds and twigs of Tamarix senegalensis DC. in Egypt, A. noorspoortiensis n. sp. causing bright pink galls on young shoots of T. usneoides E. Mey. ex Bunge in South Africa, and A. benhaiensis n. sp. living under scaly leaves and causing small green galls and deformation of twigs on T. senegalensis in Egypt and T. usneoides (in South Africa). Sequences of three genes, Cox1, D1D2 28S, and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, were obtained for A. noorspoortiensis n. sp. and A. benhaiensis n. sp. Blastx search for Cox1 sequences of both new species against Aceria from GenBank (a) indicated the sequence AIT38252.1 of Aceria sp. from Tamarix sp. from India as the most similar with 87–90% identity and 55–56% coverage and (b) revealed one codon deletion about 500 bp in the 3′ direction from the Cox1 start codon, which is the first documented case of a codon deletion in the middle part of this gene in Eriophyinae. Additionally, supplementary descriptions of three other Aceria spp. collected from tamarisks in Egypt are given. They are: A. amrini Joshi from big brown galls of T. aphylla (L.) H. Karst. (first record for Africa), A. dioicae (Keifer) from green galls on buds and twigs of T. senegalensis, and A. tamaricis (Trotter) from green galls on buds and twigs of T. senegalensis (first record for Africa).

Abstract (sommario):
Aceria guerreronis or coconut mite, has been documented for the first time in the Republic of Panama. The species was detected in the Cinta Costanera in Panama City, where Cocos nucifera fruits exhibited the characteristic symptoms of the pest. This report provides a brief morphological description of the species, supplemented with scanning electron microscopy images. It is expected that this communication will serve as a valuable tool for timely sampling, assessment of the phytosanitary risk posed by this species, and, if necessary, the implementation of phytosanitary measures to manage it.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Peroxidase activity and its electrophoretic pattern were studied in resistant Solanum dulcamara leaves following infestation by the gall mite Aceria cladophthirus. Total peroxidase activity increased in infested leaves and was related to enhancement of three major peroxidase isozymes. The highest activity was found for the intercellular peroxidases. The extraction procedures used suggest that these peroxidases are pathogenesis-related proteins. These results are discussed with reference to the lack of lignin barrier around the mite-induced necrotic local lesions. Key words: Aceria cladophthirus, gall mite, Solanum dulcamara, resistant plant, pathogenesis-related proteins, peroxidases isozymes.
