Este trabalho científico teve como objetivo analisar quais são os elementos organizacionais que devem fazer parte do modelo de estrutura organizacional da Academia Judicial - AJ, para que responda mais resolutivamente às demandas da formação do quadro de pessoal do Tribunal de Justiça de Santa Catarina. Este estudo caracteriza-se, quanto à finalidade, como descritivo, de natureza aplicada, com foco de abordagem qualitativa e com resultados de natureza aplicada, pelo uso de meio documental e bibliográfico e de investigação do tipo estudo de caso. A pesquisa foi realizada adotando a estratégia de seleção da amostra segundo o entendimento dos 5 (cinco) componentes da organização de Mintzberg, desse modo, o total de sujeitos da foi de 55 (cinquenta e cinco) servidores efetivos e 1 (um) cargo comissionado, sendo a amostra constituída de Servidores, Chefes de Seção e Secretarias, Assessores, Chefes de Divisão, Diretores (Executivo e de Assuntos Acadêmicos e Pedagógicos) e Secretário-Executivo, que ocuparam estes cargos de direção nos últimos 8 (oito) anos, ou seja, logo após o credenciamento da Academia Judicial junto ao Conselho Estadual de Educação de Santa Catarina, momento em que sua condição institucional passou a ser híbrida, como escola judicial de governo e instituição de ensino superior. Para a coleta dos dados foram utilizados questionário e entrevistas; sendo definidas como categorias de análise: organização, estrutura organizacional, modelo de gestão, stakeholders e elementos organizacionais. As informações coletadas foram tratadas por intermédio da técnica de análise de conteúdo. Os resultados da pesquisa levam à conclusão de que a configuração organizacional adotada pela AJ não se coaduna com as suas características de escola de governo e de instituição de ensino superior, pois permanece com traços organizacionais do passado e sem um modelo de gestão, devido à forte influência exercida pela sua mantenedora, que é ?quem e o que realmente importa?, fatores esses que interferem na realização do seu negócio com resolutividade. Diante disso, foram feitas três propostas: adoção da adhocracia complementada com características da estrutura de hipertexto; o mapeamento de processos de trabalho e a ampliação do mandato dos dirigentes da Academia Judicial, além de um conjunto de recomendações, no qual os elementos organizacionais receberam uma nova configuração que pode ajudar a AJ a responder mais resolutivamente suas demandas de formação e aperfeiçoamento.

Abstract : This scientific work had as objective to analyze which are the organizational elements that should be part of the organizational structure model of the Judicial Academy - AJ, so that it responds more resolutely to the demands of the formation of the staff of the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina. This study is characterized, as far as the purpose, as descriptive, of an applied nature, focusing on a qualitative approach and with results of an applied nature, through the use of documental and bibliographic means and research of the type of case study. The research was carried out adopting the strategy of selection of the sample according to the understanding of the 5 (five) components of the Mintzberg organization, thus, the total number of subjects was 55 (fifty five) effective servers and 1 (one) , The sample consisting of Servers, Section Chiefs and Secretaries, Advisors, Division Heads, Executive and Academic and Pedagogical Affairs Directors and Executive Secretary, who have held these management positions for the last eight (8) years, or Either after the accreditation of the Judicial Academy to the State Council of Education of Santa Catarina, at which time its institutional condition became hybrid, as a judicial school of government and a higher education institution. To collect the data, a questionnaire and interviews were used; Being defined as categories of analysis: organization, organizational structure, management model, stakeholders and organizational elements. The collected information was treated through the technique of content analysis. The results of the research lead to the conclusion that the organizational configuration adopted by AJ is not in line with its characteristics as a school of government and a higher education institution, because it remains with organizational traits of the past and without a management model due to the strong Influence exerted by its maintainer, who is "who and what really matters," factors that interfere in the performance of your business with resolves. In view of this, three proposals were made: adoption of the adhocracy complemented with characteristics of the hypertext structure; The mapping of work processes and the extension of the mandate of the Judicial Academy's leaders, as well as a set of recommendations in which the organizational elements have received a new configuration that can help AJ to respond more resolutely to their training and improvement demands.

La problemática que se detectó para la realización del presente proyecto de trabajo fue que en nuestro país la preparación preuniversitaria para el ingreso a las universidades públicas tiene un alto costo de manera presencial, no hay una preparación de acuerdo con el nivel académico de cada alumno y muchas veces no se adaptan al horario de los usuarios, para el cual presentamos esta solución basado en una academia online. Esta propuesta de negocio dispondrá de dos paquetes, en donde los alumnos podrán escoger el paquete de acuerdo con el nivel académico en la que se encuentre, la modalidad virtual será llevada a cabo por medio de la plataforma MOODLE, en el cual los alumnos podrán conectarse en los horarios matriculados o revisar las clases grabadas en caso de no conectarse en el horario matriculado. Para iniciar las operaciones la empresa necesitará de una inversión en activos tangibles e intangibles de S/ 174,483 y necesitaría financiarse de manera externa con S/ 40,856 y recuperará la inversión en tres años y medio. Este proyecto reporta para los inversionistas una rentabilidad que se sustenta en base al resultado del TIR esperado de 55.84% y un VAN de S/ 172,013. Lo cual representa un proyecto atractivo para cualquier inversionista. Así mismo, esta propuesta de negocio encaja con las necesidades de los estudiantes del mercado objetivo.

Academia Gamer, es un negocio que brinda todas las herramientas para aprender las principales mecánicas de juego de los más famosos videojuegos de la actualidad. Va dirigido a todas las personas, niños y adultos, de 18 a 35 años de edad que disfruten de jugar juegos de computadora, además de tener un asesoramiento personalizado en grupos de hasta cinco personas. En la actualidad el sector de videojuegos, fue incrementado su participación en cada uno de los países, sobretodo en Perú, que gracias a la pandemia, miles de personas accedieron a jugar en diferentes plataformas, los diversos videojuegos que existen. Por ello, se vió una oportunidad de negocio, fácil y accesible para fomentar en las personas de un mejoramiento en sus habilidades con los juegos.

El presente documento busca demostrar la viabilidad de un nuevo servicio, el cual se tiene intención de introducir al mercado nacional. Tanto la compañía como el servicio comparten el nombre de Twenty, el cual se basa en una academia virtual de nivel de educación superior para apoyar a los estudiantes con respecto a ciertas materias o temas que son considerados como dificultosos de aprender en la universidad. Este concepto de negocio fue planteado y validado mediante profundas investigaciones y una serie de experimentos para tener como resultado un servicio que satisfaga las necesidades de nuestro público: una academia virtual de apoyo a los universitarios. Posterior a dichas investigaciones, se pudo concluir que nuestro público objetivo se componía de estudiantes universitarios, de 18 a 24 años, que deseen reforzar sus conocimientos en los cursos que no han conseguido entender completamente. La falta de tiempo, preparación o entendimiento de los cursos fue identificada como la causa principal. ​En conclusión, luego de haber realizado el lanzamiento de nuestro producto en el mercado, se obtuvieron diferentes críticas constructivas con respecto al servicio que se ofrece, con los cuales pudimos realizar mejoras continuas a Twenty. Gracias a ello, se logrará alcanzar el propósito de la organización: Crear una alternativa donde los estudiantes no solo puedan tomar clases, sino también puedan comprender mejor las más difíciles y utilizar los conocimientos adquiridos en su futuro profesional.
The current document contains and proves the viability of a new service, which intends to be introduced in the national market. Both the company and the brand are called Twenty, which is based on a virtual academy for university level students to post-graduation students about difficult courses or subjects in college. The business concept was raised and validated through deep research and a series of experiments that resulted in a service which satisfies the needs of our target: a virtual academy which support university students from between 18 to 24 years old who wish to reinforce their knowledge of the courses that they haven’t managed to understand completely in their respective courses. The lack of time, preparation and understanding of the courses were identified as the main cause. In conclusion, after launching the product in the market, we received some constructive criticism, and we have improved Twenty greatly. Thanks to that, we’ve achieved the primary purpose of the organization: Create an alternative option where students can not only take classes but to better understand the most difficult ones and use the knowledge they gain in their professional futures.

A causa del COVID-19, el sector educativo del Perú se vio forzado a reemplazar las clases presenciales por las virtuales. Esta nueva modalidad de estudio ha generado dificultades en el aprendizaje y comprensión de temas para los estudiantes. Es así que muchos de ellos consideran que las clases en modalidad virtual son una forma de autoaprendizaje y la principal causa de su bajo rendimiento académico. Ante la identificación de dichos problemas, el presente trabajo de investigación desarrolló el plan de negocio “EducaT”, el cual consiste en una academia virtual que brinda el servicio de clases de reforzamiento a alumnos pregrado de la carrera de Administración y afines. Esto con la finalidad de solucionar el déficit en el rendimiento académico que dichos alumnos de pregrado presentan a causa de las dificultades y problemas de aprendizajes que ha generado la pandemia. En el desarrollo del proyecto se realizó la validación técnica tras haber entrevistado a alumnos y profesores. Asimismo, se obtuvo la validación de los usuarios luego de obtener como resultados que el diseño, funcionalidad y videos testimoniales favorecen el entendimiento y manejo de la plataforma. Adicionalmente, luego de cuatro experimentos en redes sociales en donde se emplearon anuncios falsos para comunicar los beneficios de suscripción a la plataforma, ofrecer asesorías y clases de reforzamiento de cursos numéricos e inglés se logró validar el interés de compra. Finalmente, se validó la viabilidad del proyecto considerando indicadores de rentabilidad, con la ayuda de cuatro experimentos que se realizaron con la finalidad de conocer el interés de compra por parte del público objetivo de EducaT.
Due to the COVID-19, Peru's education sector was forced to replace face-to-face classes with virtual ones. This new form of study has created difficulties in learning and understanding topics for students. Thus, many of them consider virtual classes to be a form of self-learning and the main cause of their poor academic performance. Faced with the identification of these problems, the present research work developed the "EducaT" business plan, which consists of a virtual academy that provides the service of reinforcement classes to undergraduate students of the Administration career and the like. This in order to solve the deficit in academic performance that these undergraduate students present due to the difficulties and learning problems that the pandemic has generated. During the development of the project, the technical validation was carried out after having interviewed students and teachers. Likewise, the validation of the users was obtained after obtaining as results that the design, functionality and testimonial videos favor the understanding and management of the platform. Additionally, after four experiments on social networks where false advertisements were used to communicate the benefits of subscribing to the platform, offering advice and reinforcement classes for numerical and English courses, the purchase interest was validated. Finally, the viability of the project was validated considering profitability indicators, with the help of four experiments that were carried out in order to know the purchase interest of EducaT's target audience.

TESIS PARA OPTAR AL GRADO DE MAGÍSTER EN ADMINISTRACIÓN
La industria musical chilena se encuentra en franco declive. Luego de la abrupta caída de las ventas, producto de la piratería digital, no se ha logrado establecer una nueva forma de comercialización adecuada para la industria, llevando a los profesionales de ésta, a un claro deterioro de sus ingresos. Esto contrasta radicalmente con el alza sostenida en la cantidad demandada de clases particulares, que en muchas Comunas del país se ha experimentado, tanto en el área Artístico/Musical, como en el área Audio/Visual. Esta imperfección en el mercado, abre una brecha, la cual, genera una oportunidad de negocio al cruzar las necesidades de Capacitación y Entretención, con la disponibilidad de talento humano altamente capacitado en el área. Una Academia de Música, permite satisfacer estas necesidades, al aprovechar el insipiente interés que las nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al rubro generan. El número de participantes en la industria de Educación Extraescolar en chile es de 849 competidores, con ventas anuales de UF 2.336.381 para el año 2014, según fuentes de impuestos internos, de las cuales 99 corresponden a Academias o Escuelas de Música. Por su parte, el número de participantes en la industria de Educación a distancia en Chile es de 672 competidores, con ventas anuales de 1.736.427 UF según fuentes de Impuestos Internos. La estructura de mercado es del tipo “Competencia Monopolística”, es decir, existen muchos compradores y vendedores, pero estos últimos tienen la capacidad limitada de diferenciarse y cobrar precios diferenciados. Además, se puede deducir que la demanda por servicios tiene un comportamiento elástico, siendo sensible a los cambios de precios por parte de los ofertantes y, además, existen bajas barreras de entrada y salida del mercado.

Este trabalho discorre sobre o corpo como fenômeno social em contexto de individualização e é referenciado nos conceitos de corpo (LE BRETON, 2006), sociabilidade e sociação (SIMMEL, 2006) e individualização (BAUMAN, 2001). O corpo constitui-se como uma condição para se participar de relações sociais e como forma de integração de indivíduos em grupos sociais. Passa a ser o limite entre o aceitável e o desaconselhável, algumas vezes determina ou institui papéis sociais e sugere formas de atração entre indivíduos e intensidade e conteúdos de interação. O corpo é a forma muitas vezes inevitável de se conquistar reconhecimento por sua apresentação estética. Por meio de avaliação do corpo se potencializam ou se geram obstáculos para ir a determinados lugares ou como participar de certos grupos sociais. A pesquisa foi realizada em academia da cidade de Balneário Camboriú/SC e seu argumento central destaca-se pela construção social do corpo para fins de relações sociais como um construto social. Constatou-se que papéis sociais, reconhecimento, formação do mundo social como campo de lutas e de atração são orientadores de como o corpo deve ser apresentado. This work discourses on the body as social phenomenon in individualization context and is referred in the concepts of body (LE BRETON, 2006), sociability and sociation (SIMMEL, 2006) and individualization (BAUMAN, 2001). The body politic constitutes itself as a condition to participate in social relations and as form of integration of people in social groups. It starts to be the limit between the acceptable and the inadvisable, some times determines or institutes social positions and suggests forms of attraction between people and intensity and contents of interaction. The body is the form many times inevitable of conquering recognition for its aesthetic presentation. By means of evaluation of the body they get power or generate obstacles to go certain places or how to participate of certain social groups. The research was carried out in an academy of the city of Balneário Camboriú/SC and its main argument is distinguished for the social construction of the body for aim to do social relations as one social construct. Was evidenced that social positions, recognition, formation of the social world as field of fights and attraction are orienting of how the body must be presented.

Esse trabalho tem o objetivo de compreender aspectos simbólicos do boxe inserido em academias de fitness. A idéia surgiu da minha vivência, como professor e praticante, e também da análise de trabalhos que se preocuparam em entender esse esporte. A partir desses elementos, identifiquei uma prática com características marcantes, como: uma luta oriunda do gueto, símbolo de resistência de um núcleo social desfavorecido, e um meio predominantemente masculino. Esse boxe é diferente do que tive contado durante os anos que freqüentei uma academia de Porto Alegre. Ali, encontrava-se um grupo mais heterogêneo com alunos experientes e avançados dividindo o mesmo espaço, homens e mulheres ocupando os mesmos horários de treinamento e praticantes que vêem o esporte como atividade física, luta, defesa pessoal, entre outros. Para entender essas diferenças, recorri à Sociologia do Esporte representada por autores que entendem o esporte como uma manifestação heterogênea. Como metodologia, utilizei a etnografia, pela preocupação em investigar as questões simbólicas de um universo cultural específico. Para tanto, empreguei duas ferramentas: a observação participante e as entrevistas semi-estruturadas. A apresentação dos dados inicia pela descrição do local, que se caracteriza por ser uma academia de musculação em que diversas questões simbólicas se manifestam no comportamento dos alunos e estão relacionadas com a distribuição e utilização dos equipamentos. Ao descrever a sala em que acontecem as modalidades, apresento a distribuição espacial e as rotinas relacionadas às dinâmicas de funcionamento e à organização dos treinamentos de luta. Ao perceber que as aulas de boxe são realizadas, algumas vezes, em duplas, direciono meu olhar para a temática do gênero, que dará sustentação para a primeira categoria do trabalho. Ao perguntar: como elas fazem? O que eles esperam? Percebi que é esperado um comportamento relacionado ao fazer boxe para o emagrecimento e condicionamento, e que as questões de luta são mal vistas para elas. Esse discurso se distancia das representações relatadas pelas mulheres que, apesar de se preocuparem com a estética corporal, também têm interesses em lutar. O surgimento de características das academias de ginástica conduz a pergunta título do próximo capítulo: aula de fitness ou treino de boxe? A partir disso, discorro sobre características do fitness e do boxe tradicional e concluo, também relacionando meus dados com a heterogeneidade do esporte, que a academia pesquisada é um meio híbrido, que apresenta elementos das duas práticas e especificidades do local. O último capítulo diz respeito às minhas modificações enquanto docente e é intitulado: do prático ao empírico: reflexões etnográficas de um professor de boxe. Assim, ao perceber a diversidade de apropriações do boxe, alterei minha maneira de atuar diversificando as atividades no intuito de direcioná-las aos objetivos dos freqüentadores. Após essa trajetória, concluo que o boxe ainda é permeado por representações de violência e brutalidade. Por isso, considero importante que outros estudos no campo sociocultural se debrucem sobre essa temática.
The aim of the present study is to develop understanding of the symbolic aspects of boxing as practiced in fitness studios. This idea came from my experience both as a boxing instructor and practitioner, and also from the analysis of studies which aim for a better understanding of this sport. Based on these elements, I identified a practice with specific features such as that it is a ghetto-originated fight-form, a symbol of resistance by the socially underprivileged, and a predominantly male response. This kind of boxing is quite different from the one I experienced during the time I practiced in a fitness studio in Porto Alegre, where the group was much more heterogeneous. There, experienced fighters shared the training room with beginners; men and women practiced together, and those taking part saw it, for example, as a way to get some exercise and to learn personal defense. To understand these differences, I consulted authors in sport sociology, who see it as an activity satisfying different needs. In terms of methodology, I used ethnography which seeks to explore questions of symbolism within a specific cultural framework. For this purpose, I used two different approaches: participative observation and semi-structured interviews. Data presentation begins with a description of the locality, which is usually a weight-lifting studio in which a number of symbolic issues arise that are related to student behavior and the distribution and use of the equipment. When describing the space where things happen, I show the spatial layout and the routines related to the functioning and organization of fight training. Observing that those attending boxing lessons sometimes work in pairs, I turn to the gender debate, which gives material for the study’s first section. On enquiring: Why do women box? What do they hope to gain? It is thought by most people that women look at boxing primarily as a way of losing weight and improving physical condition, and that they look down on boxing as a fight form. This view is different from that expressed by women themselves who, besides their interest in the aesthetics of physique, are also interested in fighting. The growth of characteristics in weight-lifting academies leads to the issue discussed in the next chapter: fitness lesson, or fight training? Starting from this point, I discuss aspects of fitness training and traditional boxing, and take into account my data on the heterogeneity of the sport, arriving at the conclusion that the research gym is a hybrid environment, showing elements of both practices and environmental specificities. The last chapter relates to my transformation as a boxing instructor and is entitled: From the practical to the empirical; ethnographic reflections of a boxing instructor. Thus, having seen the various ways for which boxing is used, I change my approach, extending activities to be directed towards the practitioners’ expectations. After this study, I get to the conclusion that boxing is still permeated by ideas of brutality and violence. For this reason, I conclude that it is important for studies in the social and cultural fields to embrace the subject.

Mediante entrevistas a profundidad de carácter exploratorio realizadas a dos grupos de segmentos, se pudo evidenciar que el segmento uno, estudiantes entre las edades de 15 a 20 años que deciden postular a universidades tanto públicas como privadas, indicaron principalmente que, no cuentan con conocimientos básicos, los cuales son requeridos para rendir un examen de admisión. Por otro lado, el segmento dos, docentes que se encuentren trabajando y requieran de un ingreso extra brindando clases de preparación preuniversitaria, mencionaron que su principal problema es la insatisfacción de remuneración percibida. Después de analizar dichas entrevistas, se evaluó la creación de “PostulaYa.pe” una academia preuniversitaria virtual, en la cual, se brindarán clases con horarios flexibles que se ajusten a la disponibilidad de tiempo tanto para el alumno como para el docente. Asimismo, la metodología de enseñanza será interactiva y la cantidad de alumnos por clase será reducida. Lo que diferencia a esta empresa de la competencia es el modelo de negocio pues, se brindará un servicio de calidad con baja inversión por parte de los estudiantes, ya que, los clientes no necesitarán estar físicamente en el aula de clase, sino que, podrán acceder a la plataforma virtual desde cualquier lugar y dispositivo, así como recibir educación en grupos pequeños el cual facilitará otorgar una educación personalizada. Como conclusión, se puede mencionar que ¨PostulaYa.pe¨ es un modelo de negocio rentable ya que, después de realizar el análisis financiero, los indicadores VAN y TIR resultaron ser positivos.
Through in-depth exploratory interviews carried out with two groups of segments, it was shown that segment one, students between the ages of 15 and 20 who decide to apply to both public and private universities, mainly indicated that they do not have basic knowledge, which are required to sit an entrance exam. On the other hand, segment two, teachers who are working and require an extra income by providing pre-university preparation classes, mentioned that their main problem is dissatisfaction with perceived remuneration. After analyzing these interviews, the creation of “PostulaYa.pe” was evaluated, a virtual pre-university academy, in which classes will be offered with flexible schedules that adjust to the availability of time for both the student and the teacher. Likewise, the teaching methodology will be interactive and the number of students per class will be reduced. What differentiates this company from the competition is the business model, since a quality service will be provided with low investment by the students, since the clients will not need to be physically in the classroom, but will be able to access the virtual platform from any place and device, as well as receive education in small groups which will facilitate the provision of a personalized education. In conclusion, it can be mentioned that ¨PostulaYa.pe¨ is a profitable business model since, after carrying out the financial analysis, the NPV and IRR indicators turned out to be positive.

El proyecto consiste en el diseño de una Academia de Música en la intersección de los distritos Pueblo Libre, Cercado de Lima y San Miguel. El objetivo principal es ofrecer una infraestructura de carácter interdistrital que logre acoger músicos en formación y profesionales para brindarles ambientes donde puedan recibir una formación musical y se desempeñen en su labor como artista. El concepto arquitectónico tiene como énfasis integrar el programa educativo con la exposición de la música a través de espacios intermedios. Además, se propone que este sea un proyecto que pueda despertar sensaciones en el usuario a través del manejo de la luz y el color en los espacios para lograr influenciar positivamente en el aprendizaje y crear ambientes agradables.
This thesis is a design proposal for an academy of music, planned for the intersection of the districts of Pueblo Libre, Cercado de Lima and San Miguel. The aim of the project is to offer an infrasctructure for the three neighbouring districts, which will host future and professional musicians and will bring them closer to a creative environment, where they can get a musical education and therefore be able to carry out their work as artists. The architectural concept emphasizes the integration of the educational program and the exposure to music by using intermediate spaces. Furthermore, the building is designed in order to inspire its users through the use of light and color, so that it might positively influence their learning process and at the same time create a pleasant environment.

Nessa dissertação pensaremos o que é ser filósofo, acompanhando o seu desenvolvimento ao longo da história através de algumas figuras paradigmáticas; analisaremos uma perspectiva em que o filósofo também é um intelectual, junto com Sartre, os frankfurtianos e Chomsky (nossos modelos nesse caminho); veremos como surge e se desenvolve a Filosofia no Brasil, com as figuras que a fundaram a partir da década de 30, e com seus alunos que deram continuidade a esse processo; veremos como se faz hoje Filosofia, mais detalhadamente em Filosofia da Educação, através da análise dos resumos da ANPOF e ANPEd, e por fim discutiremos essa análise.

In my dissertation, I argue that the neoliberalization of higher education results in the university becoming less and less a place of wonder, self-cultivation and thinking and instead more and more a place to specialize, strategize and produce. This is a result of the volatile infusion and mixing of the logic of calculative rationality at work in consumer capitalism with the logic of scientific instrumental rationality already hegemonic in academia. This adds to the demands of the academic world of production the demands of the world of consumption. Now the academic (and also the student) is interpellated not only as a producer of knowledge but also as an object of consumption (to be consumed by others). These new pressures, previously kept at a distance from academia, explosively accelerate the already rapid process of rationalization of which science is already a key part and increasingly structure higher education as a field of strategic action in which students no longer have the time to think and to develop good judgment. I worry this undermines the opportunity for students to develop into good citizens that can truly think critically and judge carefully. Thinking and judgment are, according to Arendt, the only things that can save us if the powerful machines of science or capitalism begin to work in ways they should not. Arendt saw Nazi Germany use the newest science and the best economic management to systematically kill six million Jews. She saw the disturbing inability of the populace and the intellectuals to capably resist the Nazi machine once it got rolling. I argue than unless checked, neoliberalization threatens to turn the university into a place that discourages thinking and the development of judgment in favor of hyperspecialization and strategic action.

Workplace violence is an area of increasing concern worldwide. Issues of violence are well documented in nursing. To address this, a better understanding of the culture of nursing academia is required. Problems of incivility are reported between students, between students and faculty, and between faculty and faculty. The purpose of this study is to increase understanding of faculty to faculty violence in nursing academia. Guided by a theoretical framework incorporating the perspectives of Mason and Foucault and specifically on the concepts of violence, power, knowledge, difference and resistance, this study focuses on aspects of the social and cultural work environment, and organizational policies and procedures influencing workplace violence between faculty members. Using principles from critical ethnography, the research was conducted within three schools of nursing at universities in eastern Canada. Data collection included 29 semi-structured interviews with nursing faculty, key informants (including representation from management, human resources, support staff and human rights office) and mute document review. Three major themes emerged: the academic apparatus, experiencing academia, and coping mechanisms. Nursing academic culture is divergent, exhibiting fierce competitiveness and elitism, intertwined with pockets of support and resilience. Faculty identified diverse personal and professional strategies employed to withstand the challenges. Need for change was expressed by some faculty and managers. These findings may inform the efforts of faculty and management seeking transformation to a less competitive and elitist culture.

This exploratory research is a case study of a public university in Thailand. The research examines whether gender inequality exists in the pay raise process at Khon Kaen University over a two-fiscal year period (FY2002 and 2003). It also considers what factors might account for differences between male and female faculty in pay raises at this university, looking at factors such as productivity and family responsibilities. The research develops and tests measures of the Southeast Asian concepts of kinship, patronage, turn-taking and seniority systems. Three data sources are used, university personnel records, self-administered surveys and the annual evaluation report. Results show that raises tend to be equitable and faculty are equally productive, regardless of gender, discipline, academic rank, or position cluster. When significant differences are identified in this study, female faculty frequently reported that they received higher pay raises than their male colleagues. The well-established rules and regulations regarding pay raises (minimum requirements for productivity and pay raise steps) at this university prohibit any kind of systematic bias in pay raises. One of the other goals of this research was to test the Southeast Asian concepts of kinship, patronage, turn taking and seniority, and the extent to which each may be a factor in performance and pay raises. The research indicates these four may play a role, but their actual influence is not entirely clear and will require additional study. To address some of these issues, future research would explore the same public university with a longer time frame and then compare the result at KKU with other universities in Thailand and other universities in Southeast Asia. Interviewing both male and female faculty members in terms of their actual workloads, productivity, assigned tasks, and their perceptions of the impact of age and administrative position is recommended. Interviewing only female faculty members in different disciplines (female-dominated, male-dominated and balanced disciplines) concerning their experiences of inequality and how they deal with family responsibilities that affect productivity is also important for future research.

This dissertation aims at reflecting about the identiy of a literary group, called 'sabadoyle,' which met regularly between 1964 and 1988, in Rio de Janeiro. For that purpose, I basically examined its members’s written statements and its meetings’ minutes, which are in Plínio Doyle’s personal archives at Arquivo-Museu de Literatura Brasileira-AMLB, a department of Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa-FCRB. The present text shows that personal archives are important research resources, especially when, as it is the case of the sabadoyle group, there is a lack of secondary sources.
A presente dissertação se propõe, fundamentalmente, a refletir sobre a identidade de um grupo literário, denominado sabadoyle, que existiu entre os anos de 1964 e 1998. Para tanto recorremos, basicamente, aos depoimentos escritos e às atas que integram o arquivo privado pessoal de um de seus mentores, Plínio Doyle, sob a guarda do Arquivo-Museu de Literatura Brasileira-AMLB, da Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa-FCRB. O trabalho em questão parte do pressuposto de que os arquivos privados pessoais se constituem em importantes fontes de pesquisa, principalmente quando se registra, como no caso do sabadoyle, a quase ausência de fontes secundárias sobre um determinado tema.

Hybrid entrepreneurship is a relatively new term referring to someone who want to try out his or hers business idea and entrepreneurial skill while still remaining at their wage-work in order to reduce their personal financial risk. In the academia this is quite a usual phenomenon where researchers and other academic personnel develop new ventures based on the research they are working on. This is largely possible due to something called the teachers exemption. What it means is that the intellectual properties invented by the researchers are fully owned by themselves. Another reason is that the individuals at the academia have permission to have secondary employments. As long as it is not competing with the university’s functions, the people who work in the academic have the possibility to pursue other interests on the side if they want to. However with all these opportunities and all, why are there not more entrepreneurs out there, coming from the academia? And what are the factors influencing the choice of pursuing hybrid entrepreneurship? From what we can tell there is a satisfaction among these individuals in their work. They have all the possibilities in the world to utilize their research and commit to the business activities. Yet many of the researchers are lacking in entrepreneurial abilities causing lots of valuable research to wait too long until it is being commercialized causing it to lose potential revenue. There is a wish and suggestion that more entrepreneurial education is given to not only researcher perhaps, but also every educational program. The academic environment is the perfect place to explore ones entrepreneurial interest and it should be the university’s responsibility to nurture it no matter what program you are attending or what position you are occupying. This could encourage people to pursue their dreams or at least learn the importance of critical assessment of your environment in order to find entrepreneurial opportunities. What we have concluded in this study is that hybrid entrepreneurship is a good method for someone who wishes to lower their financial risks when developing their own business. The method is already unconsciously used by researchers at universities to some extent and we suggest that the universities become more active in trying to encourage more of this. Researchers have probably the best conditions to apply this strategy as they have the teachers exemption to give them all the rights to their intellectual property. The university also have good connections to incubators that can help these researchers with initial funds and knowledge to start up their new venture.

Resumo: A primeira edição de "As Vidas dos mais excelentes arquitetos, pintores e escultores italianos de Cimabue aos nossos dias", escrita por Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), arquiteto e pintor de Arezzo, é publicada em 1550. Ela é marcada pelas questões que animavam a Academia Florentina (1541) - a questão da historia, da língua vernácula e da sua difusão - e pela "disputa entre as artes", conforme proposta por Benedetto Varchi (1503-1565) nas célebres "Duas Lições". A segunda edição das "Vidas", publicada em 1568, será marcada por outra academia e por nova versão da "disputa"; i.é, pela Academia delle Arti del Disegno e o texto "Una Selva di Notizie", escrito por Dom Vincenzo Borghini(1515-1580), lugar-tenente da nova academia, rediscutindo a hierarquia entre as artes. Para a nova Academia, fundada em 1563, e para o texto "Una Selva di Notizie" (1564), a referência e modelo eram aqueles, institucional e intelectual, da década de "40. Tanto a academia dos artistas, fundada pelo próprio Vasari junto com o filólogo Borghini, seria inspirada na Academia Florentina, conforme declarado por eles, quanto a retomada da "disputa entre as artes" pelo lugar-tenente da Academia do Desenho, fazia referência à Lição de Varchi e às cartas escritas pelos artistas em resposta ao debate de quase vinte anos antes. Abstract: The first edition os the "Lives of the most excellent architetcts, painters and sculptors from Cimabue to ourdays" written by Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), architect and painter of Arezzo, is published in 1550. It is marked by questions that directed the Florentine Academy (1541) - the question of history, of the vernacular ando its dissemination - and by the "dispute between the arts", as proposed by Benedetto Varchi (1503- 1565) in the famous "Due Lezzioni" (Two Lessons). The second edition of the "Lives", published in 1568, is marked by another Academy and by new version of the "dispute"; i.e. by the Academia delle Arti del Disegno and the text "Una Selva di Notizie", written by Don Vincenzo Borghini(1515-1580), lieutenant of the new Academy, rejudging the hierarchy between the arts. For the new Academy, founded in 1563, and the text "Una Selva di Notizie" (1564), the reference and model were those, institutional and intellectual, of the "40s. Both the academy of the artists, founded by Vasari himself along with the philologist Borghini, would be inspired by the Florentine Academy, as stated by them, as the resumption of the "dispute between the arts" by the Lieutenant of the Academy of drawing, made reference to the Lesson of Varchi and letters written by the artists in response to the debate of almost twenty years before. Such institutional aspects, and the distinct characteristics of the intellectual debate, influence respectively each of editions with ideas that emphasize and analyze the cultural policy of the Duke Cosimo

Hacemos bien cuando planteamos que todo proyecto abocado a la presentación y explicación de un proceso de obra visual, está bien encaminado cuando este se enfrenta a la comprensión estética y a las condiciones históricas que lo inscriben dentro de una disciplina específica de las artes visuales. Es el caso de este trabajo de tesis que considera su estudio en un doble registro: el propiamente histórico del arte y el estético visual. Ambos niveles están configurados para desarrollar el análisis de su objeto de estudio, es decir, el arte del muralismo. Esto implica que la hipótesis de lectura y el desarrollo de la obra propuesta se enmarcan dentro del horizonte artístico demarcado por una práctica artística suscrita fuertemente por su condición histórica y social. Dicho esto, podemos ya comprender nuestra área de interés y el espacio reflexivo desde donde arrancan los referentes visuales que permiten entender el horizonte estético del trabajo artístico producido. Sin duda, el imaginario del muralismo ha sido más allá de una forma del arte militante acotada históricamente, una expresión que aún hoy en día se presenta como un modo de producción eficaz y altamente colectivo. De hecho, las transformaciones que podríamos decir el muralismo le hizo al registro pictórico, están presentes en muchas prácticas artísticas, prácticas que desbordan los límites disciplinares e incluyen otras modalidades incluso de participación, me refiero específicamente al Graffiti.

Collaboration between academia and industry has been the focus of numerous government reports and initiatives over the past 15 years, and is increasingly recognized as an effective way to capitalize on the UK's world-class research base. However, there is a need to further understand the role of such collaborations in the field of translational medicine, where the path to market is particularly lengthy, expensive, and risky, due to complexities associated with the clinical trial process. This research uses a mixed methods approach to investigate collaboration in translational medicine at the University of Oxford. The project comprises three principal stages. First, a broad understanding of the current landscape of academia-industry collaboration in translational medicine was obtained by administering a questionnaire to academics who had received industry funding. Next, a deeper understanding of the barriers to collaboration was sought through semi-structured interviews with 27 academics. Finally, potential strategies to reduce practical barriers to the collaboration process were investigated through interviews with members of three groups within the university who interact directly with industry: Research Services, Oxford University Innovation, and Business Development. This research constitutes the first empirical study on university-industry collaboration in translational research in the United Kingdom. It contributes to existing theory through the development of a new theoretical framework for the evaluation of barriers in terms of a) the practicalities of the collaboration process, b) the institutional environment and c) presiding cultures. Through these analyses, differences in experiences of barriers to collaboration emerged for clinical and non-clinical researchers. Furthermore, industry was seen as playing a crucial role in the translation of new therapeutics, especially in the funding of research that was perceived as being ‘too risky’ for Research Councils. Thus, reducing barriers to university-industry collaboration was seen as important to the realisation of public benefit from university research. Barriers were seen as being overcome, or avoided, via the formation of relationships between academics and companies at several different levels; while systems exist within the university to facilitate this, awareness and uptake of these systems was poor amongst the study population. Finally, if universities are to deliver impact as a key metric of performance, incentives within the university need to reward academics for commercialisation activities, in addition to publication. Through the suggestion of long and short-term strategies and a detailed analysis of industrial collaboration in this setting, this research has implications for both university and government policy.

Deve de igual forma adaptar-se às novas tecnologias, tirando o máximo rendimento delas em seu proveito. A Simulação traduz-se neste campo, numa peça fundamental para o desenvolvimento das capacidades que os cadetes necessitam atingir, nomeadamente a decisão militar. Os Jogos de Guerra apresentam-se assim com o objetivo de contribuir para uma melhor perceção dos domínios militares como é o da Tática. Assim neste trabalho de investigação procura-se saber de que forma podem os Jogos de Guerra (JG) contribuir para a transmissão dos conhecimentos táticos para os cadetes da Academia Militar.
Abstract The technological accompaniment of defence partners it’s a currently crucial issue in Portugal. It is mandatory walking side by side with the technologically most advanced countries in order to accomplish this purpose. The Military Academy, such an excellence school forming Army’s and National Guard’s officers, carry in its shoulders high responsibilities to provide a future commander’s competent formation. Is required to cadets, future commanders, to be professionals, dominating all areas of military knowledge. Similarly they should adapt themselves to new technologies and extract the maximum income of them. Simulation reveals in this field, a fundamental piece of development of the necessary cadets´ skill, namely the military decision making. The wargames goal is contribute to a better comprehension of military domains, such Tactics. Thus in this investigation essay, looking know, how wargames can serve to transmission of tactics knowledge to Military Academy's Cadets.

Com isto, é necessário que as organizações tomem decisões constantemente e que existam instrumentos que forneçam informações importantes para ajudar essa tomada de decisão, de modo a uma maior eficiência e eficácia na gestão dos recursos, tendo sempre em conta a consecução dos objetivos estratégicos a que cada organização se propõe. Assim sendo, o presente trabalho encontra-se subordinado ao tema “Implementação do Balanced Scorecard na Academia Militar”. Sendo a Academia Militar uma organização pública, os seus principais objetivos não têm a ver com a vertente financeira, mas sim com os “clientes”. Por isso tem-se que utilizar todos os seus recursos da melhor maneira para satisfazer todas as necessidades destes. Posto isto, este estudo visa perceber qual o instrumento que a Academia possui para ajudar a tomada de decisão e em que medida é possível, e necessário, a implementação de outro instrumento, neste caso o Balanced Scorecard. Neste trabalho de índole científica recorreu-se à mais variada metodologia. Na parte teórica, para recolher os dados, utilizou-se a revisão bibliográfica. Já na parte prática, utilizou-se entrevistas e inquéritos. Por fim, desenvolveu-se um modelo deste sistema. Os resultados evidenciaram que a Academia Militar não possui nenhum sistema de gestão estratégica, apenas de gestão. Sob este sistema não é possível saber o grau de consecução dos objetivos e atividades, apenas o grau financeiro, o que apresenta muitas carências. O Balanced Scorecard pode ser a resposta a estes problemas, pois, como verificado, este modelo permite medir o desempenho organizacional e a execução da estratégia, através da sua monitorização constante.
Abstract The context in which organizations are living today are constantly changing and these changes occur very quickly. The organizations need to make decisions constantly. However this requires instruments that provide this important information to help decision making in order to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in resource management, taking into account the achievement of strategic objectives that each organization is proposed. That’s why this work is entitled "Implementing the Balanced Scorecard at the Military Academy." As the Military Academy is a public organization, its main objectives have nothing to do with the financial aspect, but with customers. It has to use all their resources the best way possible to know all the needs. That said, this study aims to determine which is the instrument that the Academy has to aid decision making, and to what extent is possible and necessary to the implementation of another instrument, in this case the Balanced Scorecard. The scientific nature of this work resorted to the more varied methodology. In the theoretical part, to collect the data, we used the literature review. In the practical part, we used interviews and surveys. Finally it was possible to model the system. The results showed that the Military Academy has no strategic management system, only management. And even this management system cannot know the degree of achievement of objectives and activities; it is only financial, with so many needs. The Balanced Scorecard can be the answer to these problems because, as seen, this model allows us to measure organizational performance and strategy execution, through its constant monitoring.

Innovation generates business competitiveness and business opportunities. The corporate sector can generate innovative products and processes based on technological progress in the company, developed in academia, or developed in partnership. But as the business sector can meet the technological advances that arise in the gym? What are the relevant details? What sources of information can be found? The sources of information currently available contains relevant and sufficient information? The context of this research is the monitoring of technological advances from academia to facilitate the transfer of such advances to the business sector. Among the objectives proposed for the research are: to identify sources of information publicly available descriptions of the technological advances of the academy, and investigate these sources of information through experimental research involving extraction and analysis of data in a universe of limited research. For the experimental investigation were chosen as sources of information and the Lattes Platform Innovation Agency UFSCAR site. The research universe was defined set of technological advances produced by professors from San Carlos UFSCar campus. The interval between the years 2007 and 2012 was defined as the period of investigation. Results indicate that 907 teachers UFSCar São Carlos campus reported in Lattes 192 technological advances produced between 2007 and 2012, 89 software without registration, 58 patents, 28 technology products, 13 processes and techniques, Industrial 2 drawings 1 software with registration and 1 mark. These data were grouped by department, by district and by year of production, generating statistics. The results of analysis of descriptive information extracted from Lattes showed problems in the reliability of the data: errors, duplicity, vagueness and lack of standardization in the filling. The website of the Agency for Innovation UFSCar reported numerically, 98 patents, 12 computer programs, 12 licenses of technology, 17 international patents, trademark registrations 4, 5 and 17 cultivars protected utility models between 2008 and 2012. Fifty-three of these advances - 49 patents and 4 cultivars - were described on the website of reliable, accurate and inviting manner using textual and audiovisual resources, enabling the identification and contact with researchers. Comparing the information provided in the Lattes Platform and the Innovation Agency site, we identified in the Innovation Agency site descriptions are more reliable and effective, however cover a limited number of technological advances, restricted to patents and cultivars indicators. On Lattes descriptions of advances reported in other indicators (such as software, processes and industrial designs) can be found, but more superficial descriptions and in some cases inaccurate. This work contributes to a better understanding of how the technological advances of the academy are being monitored, it also helps to aim the Lattes Platform and the websites of Technological Innovation Centers as sources of information that can be integrated in order to enhance monitoring technological advances of the academy and encourage technology transfer to the business sector.
Inovação gera competitividade empresarial e oportunidades de negócios. O setor empresarial pode gerar produtos e processos inovadores com base em avanços tecnológicos desenvolvidos na própria empresa, desenvolvidos na academia, ou ainda desenvolvidos em parceria. Mas como o setor empresarial pode conhecer os avanços tecnológicos que surgem na academia? Quais são as informações relevantes? Quais fontes de informação podem ser consultadas? As fontes de informação atualmente disponíveis contém informações relevantes e suficientes? O contexto da presente pesquisa é o monitoramento dos avanços tecnológicos provenientes da academia visando facilitar a transferência de tais avanços ao setor empresarial. Dentre os objetivos propostos para a pesquisa estão: identificar fontes de informação que divulguem publicamente descrições dos avanços tecnológicos da academia; e investigar essas fontes de informação através de pesquisa experimental envolvendo extração e análise de dados em um universo de pesquisa limitado. Para a investigação experimental foram escolhidas como fontes de informação a Plataforma Lattes e o site da Agência de Inovação da UFSCar. Como universo de pesquisa foi definido o conjunto de avanços tecnológicos produzidos por docentes do campus São Carlos da UFSCar. Foi definido como período de investigação o intervalo entre os anos de 2007 e 2012. Resultados apontam que os 907 docentes da UFSCar campus São Carlos reportaram na Plataforma Lattes 192 avanços tecnológicos produzidos entre 2007 e 2012, sendo 89 softwares sem registro, 58 patentes, 28 produtos tecnológicos, 13 processos e técnicas, 2 desenhos industriais, 1 software com registro e 1 marca. Estes dados foram agrupados por departamento, por centro e por ano de produção, gerando estatísticas. Os resultados da análise das informações descritivas extraídas da Plataforma Lattes apontaram problemas na confiabilidade dos dados, tais como duplicidade e falta de padronização. O site da Agência de Inovação da UFSCar reportou, numericamente, 98 patentes, 12 programas de computador, 12 licenciamentos de tecnologia, 17 patentes internacionais, 4 registros de marca, 17 cultivares protegidos e 5 modelos de utilidade entre 2008 e 2012. Cinquenta e três destes avanços - 49 patentes e 4 cultivares - estavam descritos no site, com recursos textuais e audiovisuais, possibilitando a identificação e o contato com os pesquisadores. Comparando as informações disponibilizadas na Plataforma Lattes e no site da Agência de Inovação, identificou-se que no site da Agência de Inovação as descrições são mais confiáveis e efetivas, porém abrangem um número limitado de avanços tecnológicos, restritos aos indicadores patentes e cultivares. Na Plataforma Lattes podem ser consultadas descrições de avanços reportados em outros indicadores (como softwares, processos e desenhos industriais), porém com menor detalhamento. O presente trabalho contribui com uma melhor compreensão do modo como os avanços tecnológicos da academia vêm sendo monitorados; contribui também ao apontar a Plataforma Lattes e os sites dos Núcleos de Inovação Tecnológica como fontes de informação que podem ser integradas, de modo a aprimorar o monitoramento dos avanços tecnológicos da academia, e incentivar a transferência de tecnologia ao setor empresarial.

NIR, network information retrieval, is the act of finding and retrieving information on interconnected computer networks. The research investigated the extent to which NIR awareness and use has diffused through a broad research population, and why and how academics become aware of and use NIR. Everett Rogers' diffusion of innovation theory was adapted to guide the investigation. A survey of 888 faculty members at the University of Arizona with Internet-accessible computer accounts resulted in a 32% return of surveys. Respondents from the various colleges at the university use between 20% and 39% of available NIR technologies, suggesting that NIR is in an early stage of diffusion in all colleges. Twenty-one one hour open-ended interviews were conducted with faculty from a variety of disciplines. Analysis of coded interview comments was used to test the usefulness of Rogers' theory in describing the diffusion of NIR. Predictions that mass media communication channels which go outside the local community will be more likely to result in awareness and use of NIR were not supported. Predictions that use of NIR would be associated with the perception that NIR (1) is compatible with needs and social norms, and (2) has relative advantage over previous practice, were supported. The predictions that use would be associated with perceptions of (1) compatibility with previous conditions, (2) low NIR complexity, and (3) trialability of NIR, were not supported. The explanatory power of the diffusion of innovation theory is improved for diffusion of NIR if NIR technologies are not studied in a vacuum. Rather, NIR technologies need to be studied in association with particular types of information resources (i.e. general interest and research-related resources) and particular types of communities (i.e. research communities). The study suggests that before NIR will diffuse in research communities, academics will need to agree that NIR dissemination of information will be rewarded in the promotion and tenure process. Such redefinition of social norms will help to create within research areas a critical mass of NIR users, and thus contribute to the diffusion of NIR.

Over 15,000 master’s and doctoral degree students in the United States were denied admission to nursing schools in 2014 because of insufficient nursing faculty. In 2016, over 64,000 undergraduate and graduate students were unable to gain admission to nursing school due to the effects of faculty shortages. This project explored the role of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-prepared nurse in academic settings using a systematic review of the literature to determine the role of DNP-prepared nurses in academia. Souza’s systematic review model and Melnyk’s levels of evidence were used to guide the search, review, and the selection of scholarly articles published between 2005 to 2019. A chart of preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses chart was used to organize and select 14 articles meeting the review criteria and included in the analysis. Four themes emerged from the analysis of literature: role in academia from the dean’s and director’s perspective, DNP role as a teacher, preparation for faculty role, and leaving the faculty role. Confusion over the role of the DNP in academia was also identified as a factor affecting DNPs in academic practice settings; however, DNPprepared nurses have the clinical experience, knowledge, and skills to provide evidence-based teaching and fill the gap in practice needed in academic settings. This project may promote positive social change by raising awareness of the role of the DNP in academia to reduce the faculty shortage.

Science thrives when there is a continuous flow of new ideas and diverse generations of scholars contributing to the field. Although academic institutions aim to encourage diverse viewpoints, a culture of atheism among university faculties may unwittingly be contributing to an anti-religious atmosphere. The main focus of this dissertation is to investigate people’s attitudes toward religious individuals, and how these attitudes affect the religious believers’ mental health and academic performance. Study 1 (N = 899) found that people tend to explicitly report that religious believers have lower intelligence, but to implicitly associate them with higher intelligence. Although this is the case, faculty members, particularly those from secular institutions, did not have this implicit association and had the strongest congruity between their explicit and implicit intelligence preferences. Studies 2-3 showed that religious believers of diverse backgrounds reported experiencing overt and covert forms of religious bias, including biases related to their academic ability. Religious believers reported that they encountered more incidences of overt and covert forms of religious bias inside of higher education than outside of academia. Experiences of religious microaggressions significantly predicted higher rates of depression in Study 2 (N = 383) and marginally in Study 3 (N = 129). Finally, Study 4 (N = 169) found that compared to other religious groups, Christians were stereotyped to lack science competency. Study 5 (N = 237) demonstrated that these stereotypes applied to Christian college students and was at a comparable rate to how women are stereotyped to lack scientific competency and interest. Study 6 (N = 93) demonstrated that these negative stereotypes cause Christian college students to become less interested in and identify less with sciences. They also caused Christian college students to underperform on science-relevant tasks, especially those students with a stronger religious identity (Study 7; N = 90). These studies reveal that stereotypes play a key role in pushing religious believers out of science. Implications and future directions in the representation of religious believers in academia and science fields are discussed. This dissertation includes previously published and unpublished co-authored material.

Actualmente a importância da Língua Inglesa é indiscutível nos mais diversos sectores, nomeadamente a nível económico, cultural e profissional. As Forças Armadas Portuguesas reconhecem igualmente a importância da Língua Inglesa na carreira dos Oficiais dos Quadros Permanentes. É também um facto que os futuros Oficiais do Exército e da GNR têm como parte integrante do seu currículo durante o curso da Academia Militar a Unidade Curricular de Língua Inglesa. Contudo, ao longo dos anos, tem-se constatado que nem todos os alunos atingem, no final do 4º ano de curso, os níveis mínimos exigidos preconizados pela OTAN, segundo o acordo normalizado STANAG (NATO Standardization Agreement – Language Proficiency Levels) 6001, para aprovação naquela Unidade Curricular. O presente Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada procura encontrar as possíveis causas para este problema. Para tal, um inquérito relativoà Unidade Curricular de Língua Inglesa foi aplicado a uma população alvo constituída por Alferes, Alferes Alunos, Aspirantes-Alunos e pelos Cadetes-Alunos do actual 8º Semestre. Da análise dos dados, obtiveram-se alguns resultados que podem contribuir para a existência do problema inicial, entre os quais: insatisfação por grande parte dos alunos relacionada com os conteúdos programáticos; o factode muitos alunos terem dificuldades ao nível das suas capacidades para a aprendizagem de competências linguísticas; o pouco tempo disponível extra tempo lectivo para a práticadas competências linguísticas; a falta de motivação dos alunos. Concluiu-se ainda que o ensino está mais adequado aos objectivos do nível intermédio, embora estes não progridam significativamente ao longo dos quatro anos de curso. No final deste estudo e com base nos resultados obtidos, apresentam-se algumas conclusões e sugestões para reflexão.
Abstract Nowadays the English Language plays a major role inthe most diverse areas, namely in the fields of economy, culture or even in professional terms. The Portuguese Armed Forces have acknowledged this fact concerning the careers of its Officers. Therefore for both Army officers and GNR officers the subject of English Language is mandatory during their four years of course in the Military Academy. However, throughout the years, at the end of those four years of study, not all cadets have been able to meet the standards of language proficiency required by NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG). The present Research Project aims to find the possible causes for that problem. Hence, a questionnaire about several aspects concerning the subject of English Language was filled in by 2nd Lieutenants, Cadets who have concluded their four years of course in 2007, and Cadets who will conclude it in the current year. After analysing the data from those questionnaires some of the results showed: dissatisfaction felt by many students concerning the syllabus; difficulties felt by the students in terms of own capacities for the apprenticeship of language skills; little time available for the practice of those skills; lack of motivation felt by the students. It could also be concluded that the English Language classes show to be more adequate to suit the purposes of the students attending the intermediate level, though most of them maintain the same Standardized Language Profiles (SLP) during the four years of course. At the end of these study and based on the data obtained, some suggestions are presented along with the conclusions.

Os actuais Estabelecimentos de Ensino Superior (EES) atravessam um período marcado por um mercado cada vez mais competitivo por potenciais candidatos. Neste sentido, as instituições têm levado a cabo um conjunto de alterações ao nível do paradigma comunicacional para promoverem a sua imagem e a sua visibilidade pública. Paralelamente, assistimos a uma revolução ao nível das tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC), em que a internet ocupa um lugar de destaque entre os jovens. A capacidade de atrair candidatos, tendo em conta as vantagens que a internet apresenta, leva a que seja imperativo a presença de um sítio institucional nesta plataforma de comunicação. Desta forma, o presente trabalho analisa o sítio internet da Academia Militar (AM), do ponto de vista da respectiva usabilidade. Neste sentido, o trabalho divide-se em duas partes distintas. A primeira parte estabelece todo o enquadramento conceptual em que se suporta o estudo, e a segunda parte focaliza-se especialmente na avaliação do sítio internet da AM, bem como, das suas congéneres. A metodologia concilia abordagens qualitativas e quantitativas, pois, por um lado, foi necessário recorrer à análise documental para construir uma grelha de análise adequada aos objectivos; por outro lado, construiu-se um questionário de avaliação heurística destinado a avaliar a usabilidade dos sítios internet em causa, sendo este tratado quantitativamente. Além disso, utilizaram-se ainda outros dados quantitativos, como as estatísticas de acesso ao sítio da AM. Desta análise, verificou-se que o sítio internet da AM tem sido uma importante fonte de informação da AM junto dos seus públicos, e que ao nível da usabilidade se encontra, bem classificada, porém, alguns melhoramentos ao nível da estética, recursos multimédia e de interactividade, traduziriam uma mais-valia.
Abstract Nowadays, college schools are competing to each other for potentially candidates. In order to increase their image and public promotion, the communication system has been changed. At the same time, we have been going through a revolution in the information and communication technologies. At this level, internet takes an important place between the young people. To take advantage of this potentiality, an institutional web-site is absolutely needed. The present study analyze the Academia Militar Web-site concerning on its usability. To perform this analysis, the study is divided in two parts: the first one establish the conceptual environment that support the study; the second one is most focalized on the analysis of the internet Academia Militar Web-Site and similar institution’s web-sites. The methodology used in this study is as quantitative as qualitative and in some parts, a analys is grid was used. At the same time, an heuristic inquire was delivered in order to evaluate the web-site’s usability. Behind that, statistics of the web-site accesses was integrated as well. From the analysis, it was verified that the internet web-site is an important way to deliver the information to the Military Academy public. It’s usability it revealed being well classified, although, interactivity, multimedia resources and image benefits should be improved.

This study explores the basic social conditions for high-quality university research, and focuses on research in science and technology in Sweden. Swedish research policy has adopted more of a market perspective on academic research and its role in society. This has meant the promotion of competition between researchers, increased focus on efficiency at universities, and attempts to make academia harmonize more with industry and other actors. How do such policies affect the variety of perspectives within the academic system? How do they affect the positions and identities of individual academics? These issues are discussed through the concept of "relational tensions". Relational tensions refer to social strains arising when interacting actors have different perspectives. Relational tensions can stimulate creativity, but may also cause unproductive conflicts. The discussion is underpinned by interviews with university researchers and a case study of Uppsala BIO-X, a program to commercialize university research in biotechnology. Typical cases of relational tensions are identified. These concern both interpersonal relations and differences between organized science and industry. A notable observation concerns potential frustration of individual academics, as competition and efficiency tends to make their positions and identities more contested. Researchers cope with relational tensions in three identified ways: socialization, seclusion, and lateral authority. Socialization is natural and often necessary, but reduces the variety of perspectives. Seclusion serves to retain variety and independence, but reduces interaction with others. Lateral authority is to formally or informally lend a researcher more authority, which improves the chance of maintaining a variety of perspectives without reducing interaction. The sustained usefulness of academic research arguably depends on its ability to foster and communicate a variety of perspectives. Hence, (i) promoting lateral authority seems fruitful within academia and in relations between academia and industry, and (ii) encouraging competition and efficiency may to some extent be counterproductive.

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the lived experiences of underrepresented tenured Latina faculty in one four-year university in the southeast area of the United States to identify barriers towards achieving tenure. Eight tenured Latina faculty with experience of 7 to 20 or more years in a tenured position provided their perceptions and experiences of the challenges and support they encountered in their pursuit of tenure. A snowball sampling technique produced eight participants from an initial recruitment from an online search. Semi-structured interviews via in-person and audio-video conferences offered rich descriptions of the Latina faculty’s experiences for coding and analysis. The NVivo for Mac software supported the coding and analysis process of the participant’s responses. Five main themes emerged from the patterns found in the analysis. The five findings included: organizational exclusionary practices against Latina faculty at the university; white male-oriented culture where resources are used to benefit white males; demoralizing micro-aggressions towards Latina faculty from white faculty; the university leadership’s lack of action and accountability to address diversity and inclusion challenges; and the lack of support networks and mentoring to help guide Latina faculty. These findings described an exclusionary academic environment, where the Latina faculty often felt insulted, isolated, and underappreciated with little to no opportunity to advance or contribute equally to the university. This study contributed to the literature by addressing various reasons higher educational institutions need to actively remove barriers that negatively affect Latina faculty seeking tenure.

This dissertation explores the conflicts, contradictions and paradoxes inherent in the lives of those women who, as artists and academics, seek to connect their personal and professional lives in their work. It explores how creativity and the pursuit of self-knowledge relate to the lives of female artists and academics. The dissertation arises from a study of my own experience as woman, writer and academic.
Inquiries into creativity and feminist, critical and cultural theory provide the framework for examining how the identity of the female artist is shaped within the patriarchal institution of academia, an institution originally created by, and for, men and still strongly influenced by this history. These inquiries allow a deeper understanding of the impact of this institution on the life and work of the female artist both within and beyond the academy. As a self-study, the distinctive voice of this dissertation is developed through autobiographical narratives, journals, letters and a development of personal metaphors, as well as through a dialogue with others. This is therefore a performative text in which narratives map a process of transformation that traces the artist's path from silence to voice.
This work has important implications for women in higher education as self-study is revealed to be an essential methodological instrument for the articulation of alternative, authentic perspectives of marginalized and under-represented women. Moreover, the acknowledgement of the academic/artist paradigm in teacher education opens the path for a re-viewing of the metaphors of self-denial, impersonation and masks that are part of the landscape of teacher knowledge.

Practices of collaborative relationships between industry and academia have a long-standing history traced to the time when prototypes of modern universities emerged in the medieval period. The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify the extent of agreements in stakeholder perceptions on the benefits of industry-academia collaborations for sustainable growth in Trinidad and Tobago. One hundred and thirty three persons participated in 13-item survey instrument over the Internet from industry and academia in Trinidad and Tobago to measure perceptions. The measurements were in goal achievement, benefits, satisfaction levels, influences, barriers, and key success factors. The unit of analysis was individuals from industry and academia. Analysis of the data revealed that perceptions to goal achievement from both industry and academia towards collaborative relations ranged from important to very important. Benefits to industry and academia ranged from important to very important while the perceived influences from Government were indifferent. The main barriers to collaborative relations were communications, leadership, and cultural awareness. The key findings were significant differences between industry and academia perceptions on additional income for universities as a goal of collaborative relations; joint representation on technical committees as a means of information; lack of entrepreneurial culture and communication as a barrier to collaborative relations. The recommendations include the need for entrepreneurial development and improved communications among the stakeholders as a pre-requisite to success in collaborative partnerships.

This thesis considers how sexual and romantic relationships between academic faculty and students in higher education are governed. Using analytic techniques drawn from Foucault and discursive psychology to interpret a corpus of texts, which includes policy documents, interview transcripts, fictional accounts, newspaper articles, and computer mediated discourse, I explore how five discourses are mobilized to frame faculty student relationships. I find that harassment discourse, which emerges as the dominant frame of reference in scholarly accounts, is taken up less readily in the accounts studied here. Rather, discourses foregrounding four alternative, but often imbricated, themes are more extensively mobilized: infantilization; religiosity; health, safety, and hygiene; and professionalism. These discourses reinforce elements of the truth claims propounded by harassment discourses; notably, their gendered and heterosexist assumptions, and their insertion of a gap between academic and student, albeit one configured along subtly different lines. However, they also challenge them, positing alternative claims to truth, recasting the subject positions of academic and student, and re-orienting relations between the two. For example, infantilization discourses construct faculty-student relationships as a horrific relation between adult or parent and child which must be monitored, whereas religious discourses construct a pastor-flock relation, articulating relationships as a temptation to be resisted or atoned for. The thesis offers contributions to research on faculty-student relationships per se, and is also understood as opening up analysis of organizational sexuality and the university more generally by arguing for the usefulness of a government approach to these phenomena.

O objeto deste estudo foi a identidade organizacional de uma academia científica no campo da Enfermagem, pautado na representatividade e no significado de uma academia científica na configuração de uma identidade profissional, ao considerar uma analogia nos processos de constituição das academias referenciadas. Contemplou aspectos teórico-conceituais no que se referiu à historicidade do conceito de academia, valendo-se da pesquisa documental e dos princípios da análise de conteúdo para interpretação dos dados. Descrever a identidade profissional dos membros de uma academia científica, analisar as implicações desta identidade e discutir os significados e representações de uma academia científica na Enfermagem brasileira e sua visibilidade internacional, foram os objetivos do estudo. Concluiu que a academia científica é uma organização profissional, cujo diferencial está no capital humano arrebanhado para seu interior, o modo como foi selecionado e os motivos pelos quais se encontram e se mantém juntos. A identidade profissional dos membros de uma academia científica deve ser ampla em competências e habilidades profissionais, além de agregar diferentes capitais simbólicos, trazendo implicações diretas em sua constituição. Na Enfermagem brasileira, identificou-se um movimento pela criação de uma Academia Brasileira de Enfermeiros, mas não que não foi avante por razões particulares aos seus integrantes; a existência de uma Academia Brasileira de Especialistas em Enfermagem, que pelo seu processo de criação não se caracteriza como uma academia segundo os princípios da Escola Platônica; e a criação e fundação Academia Brasileira de História da Enfermagem, cujos objetivos estabelecidos no Estatuto, inferem ser a organização, uma possível agente de mudança comportamental em relação ao campo da História. Entendeu-se que através do estudo da História da Enfermagem, identificamos, analisamos e compreendemos os avanços da profissão na sociedade, além de subsidiar e instrumentalizar a própria elaboração da identidade profissional da Enfermagem e a formação de seu habitus. Avaliou-se que a identidade profissional do membro de uma academia científica é sustentáculo fundamental aos propósitos da organização, ainda que nos exemplos citados neste estudo, o aspecto de irmandade e/ou confraria não tenha sido esquecido em alguma fase do processo de criação e fundação das academias aqui referidas. A visibilidade remete a expansão das fronteiras, na medida em que participam de eventos nacionais e internacionais na área, ratificando e fortalecendo os dados resultantes de pesquisas, além de aumentar a rede de relações sociais. Todos os atores sociais devem estar devidamente e suficientemente instrumentalizados, histórico, cultural e tecnicamente, para fazer manter as conquistas de seus precursores, e angariar novas posições no (in)constante campo da saúde. A divergência intelectual faz parte do conhecimento, onde ele é sempre relativo, ao supor um ponto de vista específico, certos instrumentos, e também os limites da pessoa humana. Ratifica-se a importância de considerar que o pesquisador é um intérprete, fazendo uma leitura discursiva influenciada pelos seus sentimentos, sua posição, suas experiências e vivências, e a sua interpretação nunca será absoluta e única, mas produzirá seu sentido.
The study object was the organizational identity of a scientific academy in the field of nursing, based on the representativeness and the meaning of a scientific academy in setting up a professional identity, to consider an analogy in the processes of formation of academies references here. Contemplated in the theoretical and conceptual aspects that referred to the historicity of the concept of the academy, drawing on archival research and the principles of content analysis to data interpretation. Describe the professional identity of members of a scientific academy, examining the implications of this identity and discuss the meanings and representations of a scientific academy in nursing in Brazil and its international visibility, were the objectives of the study. Concluded that the scientific academy is a professional organization, whose differential is rounded up to the human capital inside, how it was selected and the reasons who remain together. The professional identity of members of a scientific academy should be broad in expertise and professional skills, as well as adding different symbolic capital, bringing direct implications in its constitution. Nursing in Brazil, we identified a movement for the creation of a Brazilian Academy of Nursing, but that was not forward for reasons peculiar to its members and the existence of a Brazilian Academy of Experts in Nursing, which by its process of creation is not characterized as an academy under the principles of Platonic School, and the creation and founding the Brazilian Academy of Nursing History, whose goals established in the Statute, be infer the organization, a possible agent of behavioral change regarding the field of history. It would appear that by studying the history of nursing, identify, analyze and understand the progress of the profession in society, in addition to supporting development and orchestrate their own professional identity of nursing and the formation of their habitus. It was found that the professional identity of a member of a scientific academy is vital mainstay of the organization\'s purposes, although the examples cited in this study, the aspect of fellowship and / or guild has not been forgotten in some stage of the process of creating and foundation Academies stated here. Visibility refers to expanding the frontiers, to the extent that participate in national and international events in the area, confirming and strengthening the data resulting from research and improves the network of social relations. All social actors should be properly and sufficiently exploited, historical, cultural and technically, to preserve the achievements of their predecessors, and to build new positions in the (in) constant field of health. The disagreement is part of intellectual knowledge, where it is always relative, to assume a specific point of view, certain instruments, and also the limits of the human person. It confirms the importance of considering that the researcher is an interpreter, making reading a discourse influenced by their feelings, their position, their experiences and their interpretation will never be absolute and unique, but it will produce its effect.

This work intends - in a very personal way of participative research to design a genealogy of hip hop in Rio de Janeiro, emphasizing the approach of rap music. It tries to show the impact of the new technologies of information and communication over those who produce, consume and live on the hip hop nets. The presence of NICs as well as the cooperative and collaborative ways of hip hop production are approached with the theoretical basis of immaterial work.

Many organizations have realized that effective management of their knowledge assets is important to survival in today s competitive business environment. Consequently an Organizational Memory (OM) is used to store what has been learned from the past in order that it can be reused by current and future employees. Information retrieval techniques have been widely used to facilitate the retrieval of the right information in an OM at the right time. However, access to information alone is not sufficient since not all knowledge can be transferred into explicit documentation. Expertise, as one of the most important knowledge assets, is normally stored in people s heads and is difficult to codify. Expertise is shared when people communicate with each other. Therefore, finding the right person with the right expertise is recognized as being at least as important as retrieving documents. The typical approaches to find experts include knowledge brokers and expertise database. However, the former approach is impractical in large organizations and geographically disparate organizations whilst the latter approach relies heavily on individuals to specify their expertise and keep updated. This thesis focuses on two questions: (1) How to integrate multiple expertise indications existing in an organizational memory as complementary to the description by experts? (2) How to insure the relevant experts are not overlooked as well as irrelevant experts are minimized? To solve these problems, a conceptual model has been developed so that multiple expertise indications existing in the organizational memory can be semantically integrated. The heterogeneous data sources are integrated by using RDF(S) since RDF allows for a uniform representation of data and RDF Schema represents the conceptual model. In addition, the expertise profiles are extended to include both keyword form and concept form based on the domain ontology; this combined profile integrates the advantages of both keyword search and concept search. A prototype system, which aims to help PhD applicants locate their potential supervisors, has been designed and implemented to test the techniques and ideas. The results of the experiments using real data at the University of Leeds demonstrate the improved performance of expertise matching and also show the advantages of applying semantic web technologies (such as RDF, RDFS, ontologies) to the expertise matching problem.

Workplace bullying is a behaviour which adversely affects individuals, organisations and the community at large. While substantial research has been conducted on workplace bullying in different work settings, limited research exists on this behaviour at universities; no comprehensive studies have to date been conducted in the context of Australian academia. This study therefore contributes through breaking new ground by exploring bullying within the increasingly corporatised and competitive Australian higher education sector. New Public Management (NPM) practices, diminished government funding, and limited resources risk transforming this sector into a full-fledged industry focused on corporate objectives to achieve operational profitability. Universities’ primary commitment to further higher education and quality research may also be overshadowed by the bids to achieve revenue maximisation. The resultant competitive workplaces staffed by a more contingent workforce may also influence bullying experienced by both academic and professional staff in universities. While prior research has shown that competitive work environments can facilitate workplace bullying, no known previous study explored the bullying experiences of academic and professional staff in the Australian higher education sector. This study’s primary aim was therefore to explore the nature, influencing factors and consequences of workplace bullying for both academic and professional staff within Australian academia. Being an exploratory study, this research adopted a qualitative approach to gather a rich description of bullying experienced by both these distinct workstreams in universities. Individual accounts of being bullied at work were gathered by interviewing academic and professional staff from four Western Australian public universities. Thematic analysis of these confidential semi-structured interviews provided insights into the interplay of various underlying factors which enable workplace bullying. While many of this study’s findings resonate with the established literature on the subject, others are unique to the two-tiered context of Australian higher education sector. This study’s participants, explicitly as well as implicitly, linked bullying behaviours in their workplaces to the volatile economic environment of the Australian higher education sector, and increased competition amongst its workforce. As the sector’s changing employment patterns have moved towards a more contingent workforce, the sense of insecurity amongst university employees has developed to a point where many may prefer to endure bullying rather than reporting it formally. One strong theme emerging from this study’s data was the role that organisational and individuals’ culture(s) played in the occurrence of workplace bullying. Participants identified their universities’ work culture as one which tolerated workplace bullying, despite the considerable impact on individual victims. Some participants also noted the differences in individuals’ cultural backgrounds as triggers for bullying. In light of this study’s findings, measures to ameliorate workplace bullying may include steps to spread awareness and respect about cultural differences amongst the universities’ workforce. Universities might also consider explicitly addressing these issues in its anti-bullying policies. This study’ findings also underlined the lack of consistently implemented, robust anti-bullying policies in universities to safeguard employees’ wellbeing. On an individual level, power was found to be at the core of bullying. The power differentials between the victims and the alleged perpetrators stemmed from the hierarchical organisational structures existing in the universities. Although hierarchies are set in universities to accomplish its objectives, these structures often result in power being concentrated with certain individuals who may misuse it to bully others. In some cases, it appeared that bullying was being used to counter a perceived threat that high performing individuals posed to the alleged perpetrators’ established power and organisational status. Data analysis also highlighted the adverse consequences of bullying for both individuals and organisations. Workplace bullying was found to have harmful effects on an individual’s psychological and physical health; its negative impacts extended beyond the workplace to victims’ home life with their family and friends. On an organisational level, workplace bullying resulted in lower levels of staff productivity and engagement, while increasing universities’ employee turnover and damaging institutional reputations. This study, therefore, highlights how the adverse consequences of bullying experienced by academic and professional staff may prove particularly detrimental to their universities. While the productivity losses due to workplace bullying may be less obvious in universities than in other organisations, they can impair the intellectual contribution these academic institutions make to society. Such contribution can be in the form of the quality of teaching and research outputs, as well as the provision of support services for the students and staff at these institutions. Since this study incorporated the inputs of both academic and professional staff, its findings may represent the views held by the larger workforce in the Australian higher education sector. This study also provides a base for further qualitative and quantitative studies of workplace bullying within and beyond Australian academia.

Universities in Australia and elsewhere have changed considerably in recent years. Inevitably, this has meant that the work of academics has also changed. Academics’ work is of importance because they are key players in universities and universities matter to the nation economically and intellectually in advancing knowledge and its practical application. Through the changes and challenges that have characterised academia in recent years, there is an assumption that academics’ work is representative of a profession. This research study investigates how academics construct their own perspectives regarding the academic "profession". The study is theoretically informed by Freidson’s theory that conceptualises professions as occupations if they are in control of their work rather than it being under the control of either the market or of their employing institutions. Two research questions guide this study. The first question investigates how academics might construct their work in ideal terms and the second one investigates the extent to which such constructions might constitute a "profession". A qualitative case study was conducted within two Australian universities. In all, twenty academics from ten disciplines took part in the study that consisted of a focus group and fifteen individual interviews. The study was conducted in three phases during which a conceptual framework of academics’ work was developed across three versions. This framework acted both a prompt to discussion and as a potential expression of academics’ work. The first version of the framework was developed from the literature during the first phase of the study. This early framework was used during the second phase of the study when five academics took part in a focus group. After the focus group, the second version of the framework was developed and used with fifteen academics in individual interviews during phase three of the study. The third version of the framework was the outcome of a synthesis of the themes that were identified in the data. The discussion data from the focus group and the individual interviews were analysed through a content analysis approach that identified four major themes. The first theme was that academics reported that their work would ideally be located within universities committed to using their expert knowledge to serve the world. The second theme was that academics reported that they wanted sufficient thinking time and reasonable workloads to undertake the intellectual work that they regard as their core responsibility, particularly in relation to undertaking research. They argued against heavy routine administrative workloads and sought a continuation of current flexible working arrangements. The third theme was that teaching qualifications should not be mandated but that there should be a continuation of the present practice of universities offering academics the opportunity to undertake formal teaching qualifications if they wish to. Finally, academics reported that they wanted values that have traditionally mattered to academia to continue to be respected and practised: autonomy, collegiality and collaborative relationships, altruism and service, and intellectual integrity. These themes are sympathetic to Freidson’s theory of professions in all but one matter: the non-mandatory nature of formal qualifications which he regards as absolutely essential for the performance of the complex intellectual work that characterises occupations that are professions. The study places the issue of academic professionalism on the policy agenda for universities wishing to identify academics’ work as a profession. The study contributes a theory-based and data-informed conceptual framework for academics’ work that can be considered in negotiating the nature and extent of their work. The framework provides a means of analysing what "academic professionalism" might mean; it adds specificity to such discussions by exploring a particular definition of profession, namely Freidson’s theory of professions as occupations that are in control of their own work. The study contributes to the development of theories around higher education concepts of academic professionalism and, in so doing, links that theoretical contribution to the wider professions field.

Contrariando as abordagens tradicionais de liderança, segundo as quais os traços de personalidade não parecem predizer a liderança, as perspetivas mais recentes sublinham a importância destas variáveis ao nível da influência e da sua relação como preditores no processo de emergência da liderança nos indivíduos, em especial nos grupos de trabalho. O presente trabalho de investigação aplicada procura contribuir para uma melhor compreensão e explicitação das variáveis que estão na base da emergência da liderança nos cadetes da Academia Militar de Portugal. Em particular, analisa de que forma a estabilidade emocional (resiliência emocional e limite de desordem emocional), o conflito intragrupal (conflito de relacionamento e o conflito de tarefa) e os cinco grandes fatores de personalidade Big Five (extroversão, amabilidade, conscienciosidade, neuroticismo e abertura à experiência) explicam a emergência da liderança. De forma adicional explora-se o comportamento evolutivo, destes fatores/traços, ao longo de quatro anos de formação na Academia Militar de Portugal. Participaram no nosso estudo trezentos e vinte e dois cadetes das várias armas e serviços do Exército e da Guarda Nacional Republicana, com idades compreendidas entre os dezassete e os vinte e quatro anos. Para a prossecução deste estudo foram utilizados o NEO-Five-Factor (Costa & McCrae, 1992), para a avaliação das cinco dimensões do Big Five. Para medir o limite de desordem e a resiliência emocional, recorremos ao Questionário de Estabilidade Emocional (Li, Chun, Ashkanasy e Ahlstrom, 2012). Para a avaliação da liderança emergente, foi utilizada a Escala de Controlo Sociopolítico desenvolvida por Zimmerman e Zahnister (1991). Por fim recorremos à Escala de Avaliação do Conflito Intragrupal (Jehn 1997; Pearson, Ensley & Amason, 2002), constituída por duas subescalas, o conflito de tarefa e o conflito de relacionamento. Os resultados apoiam a ideia de que a estabilidade emocional, o conflito de relacionamento, a extroversão e a abertura à experiência estão positivamente relacionados com a emergência da liderança dos futuros líderes militares. As análises realizadas permitiram também concluir que o desenvolvimento dos conflitos é diferente, ao longo da permanência dos cadetes na Academia Militar de Portugal.
Abstract Contrary to traditional approaches on leadership - that personality traits do not seem to predict leadership, the most recent perspectives underline the importance of these variables, in terms of influence and relation, as predictors on the process of leadership emergence on individuals, especially in workgroups. This applied research work seeks to contribute to a better understanding and explanation of the variables which form the basis of leadership emergence in the Cadets of the Portuguese Military Academy. In particular, it analyses the ways in which emotional stability (emotional resilience and emotional disorder threshold), the intra-group conflict (relationship conflict and the task conflict) and the “big five” factors (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience) explain the emergence of leadership. In addition, it explores the process by which these factors/traits evolved throughout the four years of training in the Portuguese Military Academy. Three hundred and twenty two cadets from different arms and services with ages ranging from seventeen to twentyfour participated in the study. For this study, the NEO Five-Factor (Costa & McCrae, 1992) was used, for the evaluation of the five dimensions - “Big Five”. For measuring the disorder threshold and the emotional resilience, the Emotional Stability questionnaire (Li, Chun, Ashkanasy and Ahlstrom, 2012), was used. As for the emergence of leadership, the socio-political control scale developed by Zimmerman and Zahnister (1991) was used. In the end, the scale for Intragrupal conflict evaluation (Jehn 1997; Pearson, Ashley & Amazon, 2002) was applied. It consists two subscales, the task conflict and the relationship conflict. The results supported the idea that emotional stability, relationship conflict, extraversion and openness to experience are positively related to the leadership emergence of the future military leaders. The analysis also concluded that the development of conflicts varies during the period of time that cadets stay at the Portuguese Military Academy.
