-1949 [26][upps-01.gif] The aim of this master thesis is to investigate how W.E.A. Workers Educational Association, took part in the great changes of society and in the modernizing process in the period of 1920-1949. The examination is based upon three journals of educational material that were connected with W.E.A. The question at issue is to show how the people behind W.E.A. aimed to educate and indeed educated the workers to modern people and moreso to see how the articles in fact were written and to analyse in what way they turn to the workers and get their attention. I also want to examine if it is possible to observe a change in the upbringing-process through the time period and if the focus was altered in that very process. I have divided the articles into three parts: one moral, one physical and one educational which in their turn are subdivided on the basis of how the articles are written, not accordingly to their subject. The essay also contains a short review of the Swedish political history and what the modernisation in Sweden looked like between the 1880s and 1950s. Furthermore, I have studied the establishment of the W.E.A. as well as its development and cultural point of view. The results indicate that the W.E.A. intended to give a total education - the inner side through opinions, knowledge and moral, the outside through gymnastics, personal in addition to public hygiene. In these articles I have distinguished between three different ways in which the W.E.A. intended to educate. Firstly, a stupefying manner that manifested to what extent people ought to dislike certain phenomena. Secondly, a transmitting of opinions and values already accepted in the society and finally, the viewpoint that educating was to speak well about certain phenomena.Uppsatsnivå: D

ABF -1 is a human class II bHLH transcription factor that is expressed predominantly in activated B cells and EBV immortalized cell lines. A portion of this study sought to characterize the homolog of ABF- l in Caenorhabditis e/egans. The nematode gene product, ceABF -1, is capable of forming heterodimers with E2A gene products and binding E box binding sites. HeLa cells transfected with ceABF-1 reveal that it is capable of blocking E2A mediated gene transcription. In order to maintain full repression capabilities, two conserved amino acid residues within helix I ofthe HLH domain are required. These results show a conserved mechanism of gene repression between invertebrates and vertebrates. This study also sought to analyze ABF-1 mediated regulation of both ld3 and cellular growth. Using a human ABF-1 stably transfected cell line, ID3 protein levels and transcript levels were shown to increase in response to overexpression of ABF-1 via western and northern blot, respectively. Flow cytometry analysis and Real-time PCR revealed that ABF-1 programs a slow down in the cell cycle, however this growth arrest is not mediated by ID3.

The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family oftranscription factors consists of proteins involved in cellular proliferation and differentiation. The HLH structure plays a key role in protein-protein dimerization and with the DNA target sites, referred to as E boxes containing the consensus DNA sequence CANNTG. One class of mammalian class I bHLH proteins includes products of the E2A gene, which result from alternative splicing (E12, E47, and ITF), E2-2 and HEB. E2A proteins have also been detected in most cell lines with high levels of expression in lymphoid- and pancreatic cells. It has also been demonstrated that E2A is required for B cell maturation, T cell development and has been shown to function as tumor suppressors. To date, an E2A-interacting bHLH transcription factor largely restricted to activated B lymphocytes, called ABF -1, was isolated using the two-hybrid system. ABF -1 is the only B cell restricted bHLH protein isolated. ABF-1/E2A heterodimers have been detected in B lymphocytes. In these studies, the mapping of the ABF-1 promoter and the critical 5' regulatory elements that control ABF-1 gene expression were analyzed through 5' deletional analysis. 5' -DNA flanking pieces of the promoter region were created through PCR and inserted into a promoterless cloning vector containing the firefly luciferase reporter gene. RT -PCR analysis and anchored PCR was utilized to demonstrate the transcriptional activity of the - promoter region of the ABF-1 gene. Transient transfections were completed to determine critical regulatory sequences. The promoter location was confirmed through computer analysis of the nucleotide sequence and deletional analysis.

The human ABF-1 gene is expressed in activated B-cells and Epstein-Barr virus immortalized lymphoblastoid cell lines. ABF-1 represents the only member belonging to the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family of transcription factors whose expression pattern is restricted to B cells. ABF-1 forms heterodirner complexes with E2A to modulate gene transcription. Here we report the isolation often novel ABF-1 splice products from a human B-cell plasmacytoma cell line. Analysis of the nucleotide sequence revealed approximately five clones harboring changes within the coding region of the reported full-length ABF-1 eDNA. In some cases, these changes resulted in the elimination of the coding region specifying the bHLH domain and likely affect DNAbinding and dirnerization of ABF-1. For the other retrieved splice products, the changes within the eDNA were localized to the 3' untranslated region (UTR), which likely indicate the potential for translational regulation of the ABF -1 gene.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to describe and analyse the origin and development of the library of Workers´ Educational Association in the community of Oskarström. This library is special because the organisation run it much longer than usual, until 1977, and to find an answer to why, we have the following questions: Why does the library of Workers´ Educational Association start their activity in Oskarström, and how does it develop, in relation to premises, librarians, financing, the stock of books and the numbers of books out on loan? What is the reason that the library in Oskarström is municipalized as late as 1977? The methods we use are hermeneutics and evaluation of the sources. The library is founded in 1914 and become important for the workers. Important sources of income are the subventions given by the state, municipality and other associations. The library acts as a public library during all its time. After the final reforms of the municipalities in Sweden, the new municipality Halmstad take over the library in 1974. The reason why the organisation runs it until 1977 is because the municipality wants to build new premises for the library, and these are not finished until that year.Uppsatsnivå: D

This thesis describes and analyses how the leadership culture is constructed by the leadership discourse and leadership practices, in the Swedish non-profit organisation ABF, the Workers Education Association. The theoretical framework for the study is based on the practice theory by Swidler (2001) who claim that culture conceptualizes as practices in interaction with discourse. The empirical material consists of policy documents for the study of leadership discourse, and twelve qualitative interviews with leaders about their leadership practices. The empirical results show that the leadership discourse is based on three concepts: Carrying of idéas, Communicating and Developing. The leadership practice of the organisation is demonstrated through six leadership approaches: The communicative, The democratic, The stringent, The development focused, The situated and The positive. These approaches are used in internal and external activities. The conclusion of the study is that there is a clear stringency between the leadership discourse and leadership practices within the organisation which creates the leadership culture within ABF. The values and approaches expressed in the leadership discourse are also described in the interviews as practiced by the leaders.

Uppsatsen syftar till att skapa en bild om hur folkbildningsarbetet har pågått i Sandviken samt hur kvinnorna tar större plats i samhället. Det är ABF-Sandviken som folkbildare som står i centrum för undersökningen under perioden 1939-1968. Källmaterialet är studieprogram tryckta av ABF-Sandviken samt deras avrapporteringskort under tidsperioden. Frågeställningar som besvaras i uppsatsen är: Vilket folkbildningsarbete gjorde ABF-Sandviken? Fanns det någon ökning i antalet studiecirklar mellan åren 1939-1968? Hur står sig resultatet i förhållande till den skedda invånarökning i Sandviken vid samma tidsperiod? Hur såg könsfördelningen ut vid val av studiecirklar? Vid ett eventuellt överslag åt ett av könen, är det då nya studiecirkelämnen som har gjort överslaget möjligt? Hade studiecirklarna vid ABF-Sandviken någon koppling till samtiden? För att besvara dessa frågeställningar har jag använt mig av samtliga studieprogram och närvarolistor från ABF-Sandviken mellan 1939-1968. Jag har genom detta kommit fram till resultatet att det skedde en ökning av antalet studerande vid ABF-Sandviken på slutet av 1940-talet. Med ökningen av studerande så är en logisk förklaring att det även ökade antalet studiecirklar kopplade till ABF-Sandviken. Fördelningen mellan de olika könens val av studieämnen skiftar även under tidsperioden 1939-1968. Det börjar med ett överslag åt det manliga könet för att sedan under 1950- och 1960-talet göra en växling mot ett mer jämställt sökande. Dessa resultat har en grund i folkbildningsreformen år 1947 samt en jämställdhetsdebatt som blossade upp på 1950-talet. Folkbildningsreformen gjorde det möjligt att lättare få bidrag för studiecirklar och det gjorde en ökning in på 1950-talet och toppar på 1960-talet möjliga. Sedan med att fler kvinnor tog sig från den fasta positionen i hemmet och deltog mer i samhället blev deltagandet mellan könen mer jämställt. Studiecirkelämnen var påverkade av händelser i samtiden. Till exempel diskuterades andra världskriget och på en mer lokalnivå hur kommunen fungerade, och vart skulle man vända sig?

The basic helix-loop-helix (bHbH) family-of transcription factors is important in many developmental and regulatory pathways such as cellular proliferation and differentiation, lineage commitment, sex determination, neurogenesis, myogenesis, hematopoeisis and pancreatic development. The free-living nematode Caenorhabdits elegans is an important model organism. Genetics studies of a gene in nematodes help us to better understand the functioning of hornologs in more complex organisms. These studies investigate the nematode homolog of ABF-1, CeABF-1, and its potential role in the development of C. elegans. The BLAST Database (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) predicted a bHLH protein in C. elegans, located on cosmid ZK682.4, of 170 amino acids with an overall 51% similarity to human ABF-1. Importantly, it had a 72% similarity to human ABF-1 within the bHLH domain. Genomic and eDNA clones of CeABF-1 were isolated using whole nematodes and PCR methods. Clones were constructed that would allow us to use green fluorescent protein (GFP) to localize CeABF-1 expression. We also used RNA interference to determine the function of CeABF-1. No obvious phenotype was observed in nematodes unable to produce the CeABF-1 protein. Preliminary studies suggest that CeABF-1 is not an essential gene for development in C. elegans. Constructs were also made for protein induction and antibody studies. Further studies are necessary to determine how CeABF-1 is involved in nematode development and its interaction with other proteins.

Basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors play important roles in pathways that result in the formation of such tissues as skeletal muscle, the nervous system, pancreas and heart. A recently discovered B-cell restricted bHLH transcription factor activated Bcell factor 1 (ABF -1) is suspected to play a role in the regulation of B cell differentiation. ABF -1 was initially characterized as being a transcriptional repressor because it was able to prevent the transactivation abilities of E47 in HeLa cells and the region responsible was hypothesized to reside within the C-terminal portion. This study has further mapped the repression domain to the C-terminal portion bearing the bHLH domain. In addition, we report the discovery of a region in the N-terminus that has a secondary negative effect on the transactivation ability of E2A. To complement these studies, the subcellular localization and nuclear localization signal of GFP-tagged ABF -1 proteins was performed using fluorescent microscopy. These studies suggest that ABF-1 exerts it function through the bHLH domain and the region of the nuclear localization signal lies within amino acids 71-103. Taken together, the ability of the C-terminal end to repress E2A mediated transcription may be answered through the conservation of two amino acids, serine and lysine, located at amino acid positions 124 and 125 in the first helix of the HLH domain. This conservation is seen in known transcriptional repressors, such as ceABF -1, MyoR/musculin and capsulin, but is absent in all other identified bHLH proteins.

ABF-1 is a human class ll basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that is expressed predominately in EBV immortalized and activated B lymphocytes. A human cell line was stably transfected with a tetracycline regulated ABF-1 expression vector. The cell line revealed tight regulation of ABF-1 expression following stable incorporation of the vector into the genomic DNA. Upon induction of ABF-1 expression, the cell line exhibited a dramatic growth rate decrease. In order to monitor genes regulated by ABF-1, cells were collected both before and after induced ABF-1 expression and subjected to a microarray analysis. Early interpretations of the microarray data support the findings that ABF-1 may be regulating gene expression in a manner that facilitates withdrawal from the cell cycle.

The ABF-1 gene encodes for a protein that belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. ABF-1 mRNA molecules have been detected in the lymphoid tissues, which include the bone marrow, lymph nodes, and appendix, as well as transformed B cells lines infected with Epstein-Barr virus. This study investigates the role of ABF-1 in regulating downstream target genes in the human mature B cell line RAJI, as well as the plasma cell line, ARH-77. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and DNA microarray technology was used to investigate target genes that are subjected to transcriptional regulation by ABF-1. Using ABF-1 inducible cell lines or B cell lines that overexpress ABF -1 by transient transfection experiments, we discovered many cellular genes that change in their transcriptional profiles in response to ABF -1 expression. Based upon the analysis of genes being affected following ABF-1 induction, our results support the hypothesis that ABF-1 primarily functions as a transcriptional repressor in vivo. Many genes that regulate the cellular processes of apoptosis, as well as the cell cycle, were repressed following ABF-1 expression. Because EBV has been reported to control ABF-1 gene expression, the identification of downstream target genes regulated by ABF-1 may provide insight into the molecular events that follow after EBV infection.

This paper strives to answer a question most anyone remotely involved with education has encountered: what is the relationship between the content taught and its purpose? In this case, the question is in the context of the Workers’ Education Association in Sweden (ABF) and other educational efforts made by the Swedish labour movement. In order to answer such a question one must first outline in some detail what the content to be taught was, and what purpose the association itself saw as the important one. But the matter is also further explored: the Swedish labour movement appears to view education and culture in a rather non-Marxist manner, which poses a question to be untangled in order to fully understand the connection between content and purpose, namely that of what view they did in fact hold. Here, it will be argued that the Swedish labour movement held a proto-Bourdieuan view of culture as a form of societal and cultural capital which must be distributed in order for the emancipatory and egalitarian efforts to succeed.

This research investigates the operationalisation of activity-based funding (ABF) and its impact on the organisational control system and prevailing culture in the acute sector of a public healthcare organisation in South East Queensland. In doing so, it addresses the overarching research question: How do control mechanisms shape the organisational culture in public hospitals? Over the past 30 years, there have been two fundamental shifts in the way public hospitals are funded, structured, and managed. The first was the shift from healthcare organisations being characterised as professional bureaucracies to being managed as quasi-market bureaucratic organisations. This shift was caused by the initial introduction of new public management (NPM) ideology and more recently, the introduction of ABF. These changes represent a decreed set of external managerial controls imposed onto a pre-existing deeply entrenched culture dominated by medical professionalism, which resulted in ongoing tension and conflict between managers and clinicians.Thesis (PhD Doctorate)

The purpose of this master thesis is to describe and analyse the development of the library history in the municipality of Karlsborg. This is done with a comparison to the library development in Sweden as a whole and in particular to the cities of Lidköping and Halmstad. I have worked according to the following questions: 1. How did the libraries develop before the municipality took over? 2. How did the libraries develop after the municipality took over? The library history of Karlsborg started in 1862 with the foundation of a parish library which lasted until 1899. The next step was the foundation of the Workers of the Munitions Factory Library Association in 1907. This association ran a library on the factory grounds until forced by security measures to close down in 1915. In the same year the IOGT-lodge The Star of Lake Wättern started a library. The two libraries continued to work alongside each other since the Workers reopened their library in 1921. There were several talks about merger but nothing came about until 1956 when the two libraries were merged and taken over by the municipality. The two libraries financed their activity by several means. The main source of income was the subsidies given by the state and the municipality. Other important sources were the Munitions Factory and Trade unions. The librarians were volunteers and were not paid before the 1940s. The stock of books did show a steady but small increase, as did the lending figures. When the municipality took over there was a considerable boost to the whole library activity with funding and lending etc. In 1969 the first purpose-built library building in Karlsborg was inaugurated. The library development in Lidköping and Halmstad was much the same as in Karlsborg. The library activity did however start earlier and was on a larger scale. Since both Lidköping and Halmstad are much bigger than Karlsborg this is hardly a surprise. Halmstad is somewhat different since the municipality did take over the library activities already in 1933-1934 some twenty years earlier than in Karlsborg and Lidköping. Il lavoro è stato strutturato partendo da una preliminare ricognizione dei sistemi alternativi in generale, al fine di individuare e di chiarire la nozione e le funzioni dei più noti ADR e attraverso la ricostruzione della spinta europeista allo sviluppo delle alternative dispute resolution si è giunti alla parte centrale del lavoro, che ha riguardato l’Arbitro Bancario Finanziario, mettendone in evidenza, attraverso l’esame di tutti gli elementi (origine, natura, fonti, principi, ambito di applicazione, organi, avvio, svolgimento e conclusione del procedimento), le caratteristiche per cui esso può essere considerato un istituto dalla natura unica e originale all’interno del panorama dei metodi alternativi per la risoluzione delle controversie.
Attraverso l’approfondimento degli elementi caratterizzanti l’ABF, infine, la tesi è giunta alla conclusione di ritenere giustificata l’iniziativa di recente assunta dal legislatore di istituzione, nel sistema finanziario, di un organismo come l’Arbitrato per le Controversie Finanziarie, che, al pari di quanto previsto per l’ABF risponde non solamente ad una logica di deflazionamento del contenzioso, ma anche alla tutela dell’efficienza e della tenuta del sistema finanziario nel suo complesso.This research has been done in an attempt to deepen the subject of the alternative dispute resolution. The work starts from a preliminary recognition of the alternative systems in general, for the purpose of detecting and clarifying the notion and the functions of the most known ADR and, through the reconstruction of the push-European of their development, the research has focused on the Arbitro Bancario Finanziario, highlighting, following the review of all the respective elements (the origin, the nature, the sources, the principles, the scope of application, the bodies, the commencement, the progress and the conclusion of the process), the features for which it can be considered as a system of a unique and original nature within the ambit of the alternative methods for the resolution of the disputes. Through the study of the features of the ABF, at last, the thesis considered justified the recent initiative taken by the legislator for the establishment, in the financial system, of an organism such as the Arbitrato per le Controversie Finanziarie, which, like the provisions for ABF, responds not only to a logic of containment of litigation, but also the efficiency and protection of the financial system as a whole held.

The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to describe the library development in Sandviken, during a period from 1865 to 1945. I will mainly focus this examination on the two most significant libraries of the period; on one hand the library facilitated by the ironworks company, and on the other hand the library of the Workers’ Educational Association (ABF). This study is carried out within a theoretical framework consisting of the two concepts paternalism and the formative moment, as formulated by Lars Magnusson and Bo Rothstein, respectively. In order to explain the process the development in Sandviken is compared with the general history of the public libraries in Sweden, and specifically with the history of libraries owned by large industrial companies. The results of this study show that the library of the iron works company represents the strategy of paternalism, strongly associated with the Swedish bruk, or company town. However, the employers’ use of cultural and social reforms as a means of exercising control over the workforce, is challenged by the counter culture of the labour movement. In this case, the ABF library managed to grow and gain influence through its connections with the labour movement on the national level. This status made it possible for the ABF library to take advantage of the formative moment, and thus shape the future of the libraries in Sandviken.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att analysera på vilket sätt politiska ideologier kommer till uttryck i texter producerade av ABF och Medborgarskolan. Detta med utgångspunkt i vad jag upplever som oklara förhållanden rörande vilken betydelse ideologier i praktiken spelar för dessa studieförbund. I uppsatsen undersöks vilka ideologier som går att urskilja i två texter från ABF respektive Medborgarskolan, samt hur dessa ideologier uttrycks språkligt. Även två motsvarande texter från ett tredje studieförbund – Folkuniversitet – analyseras. Uppsatsen utgår såväl teoretiskt som metodologiskt från Norman Faircloughs kritiska diskursanalys. Analysen kompletteras även med en ideationell SFL-analys. Resultatet visar att ABF och Medborgarskolan grundar sig i samma folkbildningsdiskurs, men medan ABF-texterna är starkt präglade av en socialdemokratisk diskurs så består Medborgarskolans texter av en interdiskursiv blandning av folkbildnings-, borgerlig-, humanistisk- och positiv säljdiskurs. Avslutningsvis kopplas dessa resultat till den övergripande sociala praktik som studieförbunden är en del av.

The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to describe the development of the most important libraries in Skövde, starting from 1830. We conclude our examination about 1940, when the municipal library has been active for almost ten years, and the libraries started by the temperance and working-class movements have been deposited at the municipal library. In order to explain this process we describe the development of the Swedish public library and its predecessors, such as reading societies and the popular national movements’ libraries, as a background and comparison to the early libraries in Skövde. We describe the most significant libraries that existed in Skövde during this period, starting with a reading society in 1830. We continue with a commercial lending library and a couple of popular national movements’ libraries, before we discuss the municipal library. The municipal library in Skövde opened quite late, almost 15 years after the decision in the municipal council. We examine what happened in the meantime, and introduce Major Eric Uggla who played an important part in this process. In this masters paper the change that Lidköping public library went through between 1952 and 1959 is described and analysed. The aim is to describe and analyse the reactions that arose at the time that the first professional librarian, Jörgen Elgström, acted to create a modern public library in the town. The issues that are handled are: How did the local politicians and the general public react to the process of change that was started by Jörgen Elgström? What were the consequences for the staff, the premises, lending, child and youth activities? The paper is concentrated around the period 1952-1959 because this is the time when Jörgen Elgström was working in Lidköping. Jörgen Elgström has a central role in the paper. Elgström’s actions resulted in, for example, an increase in library staff, the founding of a child and youth library as well as that the library merged with the ABF library. A short history of the library’s early history is given to create background. A chapter is included on the development of the librarian profession in Sweden together with a chapter detailing three actors who during their respective periods have acted for library activities both nationally and locally. The paper is a qualitative case study that is first and foremost meant to illustrate Lidköping’s situation but it also gives examples of how it could have been in other library contexts in Sweden at the time. A large part of the empirical material consists of records and newspaper articles, so source criticism has been a suitable method to employ. The paper’s theoretical starting point consists of an actor perspective connected to a structure perspective and progresses to show how the actors integrated with society’s structure and vice versa.Uppsatsnivå: D

This research has been done in an attempt to deepen the subject of the consensual resolution of disputes by means of alternative methods other than judicial decisions.
The work starts from a preliminary recognition of the alternative systems in general, for the purpose of detecting and clarifying the notion and the functions of the most known ADR’s, such as the conciliation, the mediation and the arbitration.
In connection with the above, the thesis has examined in depth the cultural and historical similarities and differences between the European and Community approach (where Directive n. 52/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council is of particular relevance) and the non-EU approach, in particular that of those countries which are leaders in the development (both from a theoretical and an actual perspective) of the ADR, such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.
As far as regards Italian system, the core part of the research has focused on the “Arbitro Bancario Finanziario”, highlighting, following the review of all the respective elements (the origin, the nature, the sources, the principles, the scope of application, the bodies, the commencement, the progress and the conclusion of the process), the features for which it can be considered as a system of a unique and original nature within the ambit of the alternative methods for the resolution of the disputes.
Lastly, also following the deepening of the elements that bind the ABF with court litigation and mediation, the thesis has reached the conclusion that there exist likely expectations that the ABF may successfully realise its objectives, while consequently inspiring the genesis of similar systems in other sectors.La ricerca è stata condotta approfondendo il tema della risoluzione consensuale delle controversie attraverso metodi alternativi rispetto alla decisione giurisdizionale. Il lavoro è stato strutturato partendo da una preliminare ricognizione dei sistemi alternativi in generale, al fine di individuare e di chiarire la nozione e le funzioni dei più noti ADR come la conciliazione, la mediazione e l’arbitrato. In ordine a ciò la tesi ha approfondito le similitudini e le divergenze culturali e storiche dell’approccio europeo e comunitario (in seno al quale particolare rilievo assume la direttiva n. 52 del 2008 del Parlamento Europeo e del Consiglio) e di quello extraeuropeo, in particolare dei Paesi leader nello sviluppo sia teorico che applicativo degli ADR, come gli Stati Uniti, il Regno Unito e l’Australia. The aim of this study was to see if the socialdemocratic led government in Sweden was supported in its decision to limit the flows of asylum seekers coming to Sweden in the end of 2015. By using an argument analysis method, this paper has looked closer at the arguments of four different socialdemocratic organisations – SSU, S-kvinnor, ABF and Tro & solidaritet in 23 different articles in the period 2015-09-01-2016-04-01. In the analysis, pro. et. Contra was used to structure the arguments into negative and positive arguments about the government’s decision. The findings showed that all four organisations were negative about the government changing the immigration policy, and especially SSU and S-kvinnor. The critique was harder and more determined in the articles written by these two, while it was at least a bit more understanding about the government’s decision in the articles from ABF and Tro & solidaritet.

Syftet med denna studie är att kartlägga organisationskultur inom folkrörelseorganisationer samt att undersöka dess eventuella förändringar under påverkan av kulturpolitiken. Denna studie tillämpar Geert Hofstedes teorier som behandlar olika nivåer och dimensioner av organisationskultur. Studien behandlar värderingar, ritualer, hjältar och symboler inom varje organisation i fråga i ett sammanhang av organisatoriska praktiker som meningsbärande kulturella uttryck. Studien har genomförts med ett kvalitativt angreppssätt där semistrukturerade intervjuer utförts med hjälp av ett bekvämlighetsrvalsstrategi. Datainsamlingen har genomförts genom personliga intervjuer med fyra medarbetare på två folkrörelseorganisationer i Stockholm d.v.s. ABF och Riksteatern. De valda Organisationerna är verksamma inom olika verksamhetsområde och respondenterna har jobbat i varierande positioner och har fleråriga arbetserfarenheter. Intervjuerna spelades in efter beviljat tillstånd och säkerställandet av respondenternas anonymitet. En innehållsanalys genomfördes efter transkribering av inspelat material i form av citat och egna tolkningar. Studien behandlar också en del sekundärdata i form av historisk information om folkrörelsernas samhälleliga rötter och utvecklingsprocess. Studien visar en ständigt pågående omorganiseringsprocess inom folkrörelseorganisationer vilket orsakat signifikanta förändringar inom folkrörelsernas organisationskultur. Konflikten mellan folkrörelsernas ideella logiker och kulturpolitikens kvalitetslogik uppträder i organisationskulturen på olika sätt. ABF:s kärnvärderingar nämligen hjälpsamhet, jämlikhet och högt arbetsengagemang anses vara mindre aktuella idag. Hjälpsamhet och jämlikhet ligger också till grund för Riksteaterns demokratiseringsverksamhet och anses fortfarande vara aktuella i organisationen. När det gäller ABF har vi funnit att organisationen har utvecklat en professionell och icke-normativ organisationskultur med stränga kontrollmekanismer och stor fokus på arbetsutförande och processansvar i ett slut organisationssystem. Stränga kontrollmekanismer anses vara ett resultat av kulturpolitikens krav på ökad internkontroll och kvalitetssäkring. Studien visar att Riksteatern har utvecklat en komplex mångsidig organisationskultur som finns i två sammanhängande lager. En lokal, personalinriktad och normativ arbetskrets som omger sig med professionella, resultatinriktade och pragmatiska medarbetare. Detta leder till en normativ organisationskultur som erbjuder pragmatiska lösningar i syfte att kunna leva upp till kulturdepartementets krav på hög kvalitet, resurseffektivitet och antalet besökare. Det finns en tendens mot professionalism och pragmatism inom båda organisationerna. Detta kan bero på att båda organisationerna är ekonomiskt beroende av statliga bidrag och därför ska leva upp till kulturpolitikens kvalitetskrav. Detta ledde också till svagt normativt engagemang och ett slags samhällelig passivitet. Vi har också funnit att betoningen på kvantitativ utvärdering inte är en fungerande strategi för utvärdering av ideell kulturverksamhet. Istället har detta orsakat paradoxala uppdrag och identitetsförvirring inom organisationerna enligt våra respondenter.The purpose of this paper is to provide a systematic description of the organizational culture in social movement organizations in Sweden and also to investigate its possible changes under the impact of cultural policy. The following study has been done using Geert Hofstede’s theories on different levels and dimensions of organizational culture. The study explores the organizational values, rituals, heroes and symbols in the context of organizational practices to be examined as meaningful cultural representations. This study has been done based on qualitative research method using semi-structured interviews and convenience sampling strategy for data collection. The data has been collected through personal interviews with four employees from two social movement organizations in Stockholm and from different areas of practice; The Swedish National Touring Theatre (Riksteatern) and The Workers’ Educational Association (ABF). The respondents have been working in variety of positions and have many years of experience. The interviews have been recorded as audio files after granting permission and ensuring the respondents’ anonymity to be preserved. A content analysis has been done following the transcription of the recorded material in the form of quotes and interpretations. Secondary data has been also used in the form of historical information regarding the origins of Swedish social movements and their development process. Our study shows that there is a constantly ongoing reorganization process in the Swedish social movements which has caused significant changes in the social movements’ organizational culture. The conflict between the logic of the social movements and the quality-oriented logic of the Swedish cultural policy emerges in the organizational culture in different ways. ABF’s core values such as benevolence, equality and high work engagement are considered to be less relevant in the current organizational culture. Benevolence and equality are also the core values of Riksteatern and are still considered to be relevant in the current organizational culture. When it comes to ABF, we have found that the organization has developed a professional and pragmatic organizational culture with strict control mechanisms and huge focus on task performance and processes in a closed-system organization. The strict control mechanisms are considered to be the result of the Swedish cultural policy’s requirements regarding internal control and quality assurance. The study shows that Riksteatern has developed a complex multidimensional organizational culture which exists in two interrelated layers. A local, employee-oriented and normative work circle surrounded by professional, result-oriented and pragmatic coworkers. This leads to a normative organizational culture which offers pragmatic solutions in order to be able to meet the ministry of culture’s requirements regarding high quality, resource efficiency and visitor numbers. There’s a tendency towards professionalism and pragmatism in both organizations. This might depend on the fact that both organizations are economically dependent to public funds and therefore are required to meet the cultural policy’s quality requirements. This leads also to a low normative engagement and societal passivity. We have also found that the emphasis on the quantitative evaluation ad revision is not an effective strategy to evaluate nonprofit cultural organization. Instead, this strategy has caused paradoxical missions and confusion regarding organizational identity, according to our respondents.

By their very nature, attempts by civil society organizations to promote democracy abroad involve cooperation and contact across the borders of nation states. The dissemination of the ideas and practices of the promoters is often essential; in the case of Swedish democracy promotion, popular education or folkbildning has been important.
This thesis investigates the dissemination of ideas and practices by civil society organizations in Sweden and Estonia in the field of popular education. More specifically, a number of projects run by member organizations of the Swedish study association ABF (Workers’ Educational Association) and member organizations of the Estonian AHL (Open Education Association) are studied. These projects are also part of democracy-promoting activities whose funding comes mainly from Swedish donor agencies. The thesis aims to understand not only what has been spread but also how ideas and practices have been translated to fit the Estonian context. The primary theoretical concept used is therefore translation, even though one aim of the thesis is to systematize the field of study concerning processes of dissemination and to enrich the concept of translation with the aid of previous work on diffusion and socialization.
The main contribution of the thesis consists of the in-depth study of cooperation between Swedish and Estonian popular education organizations. It also contributes to the theoretical development of the concept of translation by identifying different phases in this kind of process and important elements of these phases. Popular education is an important part of Swedish democracy promotion and this study also contributes to this rather undertheorized subject, and also to the discussions of transnational civil society cooperation, by demonstrating an analytical framework that can be of use in future research into these issues.

Bakgrund: I slutet av 1980-talet slog de aktivitetsbaserade tankegångarna igenom, i form av ABC-kalkylering. Dock visade sig metoden vara komplex att använda i praktiken och därför introducerades tankegångar kring att istället använda den aktivitetsbaserade informationen i styrningssyften, ABM. Trots detta är det ABC som har fått störst genomslag i svensk tillverkningsindustri. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om svenska företag använder sig av ABM och i så fall hur de använder ABM. Dessutom är syftet att studera hur sambandet mellan ABM och ABC ser ut för att utröna om det föreligger något beroende dem emellan. Metod: Denna uppsats har genomförts med en kombinerad forskningsdesign. Det har utförts både en enkätundersökning och en fallstudie, därmed har såväl kvantitativ som kvalitativ metod använts. Slutsatser: Resultatet av föreliggande studie visar på att företag i svensk tillverkningsindustri inte känner till begreppet ABM men trots det används den aktivitetsbaserade informationen i styrningssyften. Det finns ett fåtal företag som uttryckligen säger sig använda ABM. De vanligaste användningsområdena inom ABM är kostnadsreducering och ständiga förbättringar. Dessutom visar resultaten att det inte föreligger något beroende mellan ABM och ABC.Background: The activity-based ideas made its breakthrough in the late 1980's with the Activity-Based Costing, ABC. But the method proved to be difficult and complex to use in practice and that's the reason to the introduction of alternative ways to use the activity-based ideas, namely Activity-Based Management, ABM. But it is although ABC that has had the greatest breakthrough in the Swedish manufacturing industry. Purpose: In this study, the purpose is to investigate if companies in the Swedish manufacturing industry use ABM and if, how do they use ABM. The purpose is also to study the relation between ABM and ABC to investigate if there is any dependence between them. Method: This study has been carried out with a mixed method. Both a survey and a case study has been made, which means that both quantitative as well as qualitative research method has been used. Conclusions: The result of this study shows that the term ABM is unknown to companies in the Swedish manufacturing industry, but although use the activity-based information in control purposes, ABM. There are though a few companies that explicitly express the use of ABM. The most common used applications of ABM is cost reducing and continuous improvement. The result also shows that there are no dependence between ABM and ABC.Keywords: ABM (Activity-Based Management), ABC (Activity-Based Costing) and the ABCM-cross.

The accounting information system comprises budgeting, accounting, and costing. The accounting information system has, traditionally, constituted an integrated system where the different elements collaborate. If ABC is introduced this order is disturbed, since ABC is based on another logic which cannot easily be integrated with budget and accounting. ABC, therefore, is usually used parallely to the conventional costing method. There are, however, companies that have taken its ABC one step further by letting it replace the old costing model and integrate it with the accounting information system. Our purpose is to describe how a well-integrated ABC has been designed and analyse its general possibilities to create an integrated ABC and accounting information system. In order to fulfil this purpose we have based our empirics on interviews and internal documents from our case company; a subsidiary to Volvo. In the case we have studied, a high degree of integration has been achieved through a partial adaptation of ABC as well as the remaining components of the accounting information system. The account of overhead revenues has changed from focusing on hours to register based on articles produced. The budget, at a whole, continues unchanged, but some rationalisations in the budget process have been a positive consequence of the adoption of ABC. ABC has been adapted by letting the accounts plan and the cost pool structure remain unchanged and no division based on activities has been realised. The procedure of the studied case can be applicable to other constructing enterprises facing the decision to adopt or integrate ABC to its accounting information system.

Subject of this study is the evolvement of the radical art music scene in Sweden. In this development took the labour movement an active part during the 1960s. The purpose of this study is to examine how the relationship between the radical art music scene and the labour movement was constituted and what this relationship implied for the Swedish radical art music scene during the 1960s. During the 1960s radical music became an influencial part in the Swedish music scene of modern art music. In this development the artists’ society Fylkingen had a central position. In the early 1960s Fylkingen began to incorporate writers, engineers, scientists, sociologists, philosophers, economists, etc. in their work and a number of projects were initiated which interacted with common society. A proposal for a public record company was developed together with KSF (Social Democratic Association for Cultural Workers) and was presented to the Swedish parliament. In collaboration with ABF (Workers’ Educational Association) the first studio for electronic music was build in 1960 and the relationship between the labour movement and the radical art music scene was institutionalized as the Stockholm Electronic Music Studio Foundation. This thesis uses the terminology of Ludwik Fleck to examine the relationship between the radical art music scene and the labour movement. The concepts of Thought collective and Thought-style are used to draw conclusions about common values and objectives within the Thought-style. The radical art music scene and the labour movement are understood to be part of a common Thought collective with a common style of thought. Because of this relationship, projects initiated in the radical music scene came to emphasize the democratic and educational aspects of music. In the latter half of the 1960s it was conceived impossible to achieve these goals under the existing program, leading to the notion within the style of thought that technological advancement was a prerequisite for a democratic music scene.

Det finns en rad olika skrivna vetenskapliga artiklar om vad kalkylering är. Men hur används kalkyleringen utav ledningen i ett företag? Används kalkyleringen som ett styrverktyg? Syftet med studien har varit att beskriva och analysera hur kalkyleringsarbetet och utformningen av kalkyleringen påverkar styrningen av ett företag. Jag har därför utformat följande frågeställning: Hur påverkar kalkyleringen och framtagandet utav fördelningsnycklar styrandet utav verksamheten? Jag har valt att undersöka mitt syfte och min frågeställning genom en aktionsstudie på Ardagh Glas i Limmared. Jag valde att göra en aktionsstudie eftersom jag ville få en helhetsbild av hur ett företag kan använda kalkyleringen för att validera sina strategiska beslut. Jag har valt en kvalitativ studie med en abduktiv ansats där jag växlade mellan att gå från empiri till teori och från teori till empiri. I min teoretiska referensram har jag beskrivit de grundläggande begreppen ABC-kalkylering, ABM-styrning, aktivitet, kostnadsdrivare och kapitalets kretslopp. Min empiriska studie omfattade en egen genomgång av Ardaghs kalkylsystem, fyra personliga intervjuer som kompletterades med en enkätundersökning för att guida mig i mitt arbete med att utveckla nya fördelningsnycklar . Resultatet blev att poängtera hur viktigt det är att företag som använder sig av ABC-kalkyleringen har en uppbyggd förståelse om kalkyleringen för att kunna få en bra grundplåt att basera sina strategiska beslut med hjälp av den. Sedan har jag dessutom lämnat förslag om nya fördelningsnycklar för att därigenom få en mer rättvis kostnadsbild i Ardaghs produktkatalog.

Les oncogènes Bcr-Abl (p190bcr-abl et p210bcr-abl) sont issus d'une translocation chromosomique t(9,22) qui fusionne en phase les gènes bcr et c-abl. p210bcr-abl est généralement responsable de la Leucémie Myéloïde Chronique (LMC) alors que p190bcr-abl induit un sous type de Leucémie Aigue Lymphoblastique (LAL). La seule différence structurale entre ces deux protéines est la présence d'un domaine DH/PH au sein de p210bcr-abl activateur spécifique de RhoA. L'expression de Bcr-Abl dans la lignée Ba/F3 est associée au déclenchement d'une migration spontanée, dépourvue de directionnalité, sous la dépendance de la GTPase Rac1.L'activation de RhoA, spécifique des cellules Ba/F3p210, est associée à un phénotype migratoire amœboïde dans une matrice de Matrigel™ en 3D où les cellules Ba/F3p190 dépourvues de RhoA activé, présentent une mobilité de type roulement. Dans ce travail, nous avons mis en évidence que l'activation spécifique de ROCK1 par RhoA détermine deux voies parallèles et mutuellement indispensables pour le mouvement amœboïde : 1) la voie de la Chaine Légère de Myosine (CLM) 2) celle des protéines de la famille ADF (Actin Depolymerizing Factor), et plus particulièrement l'isoforme ADF/destrine. Nous démontrons également l'existence d'invadopodes spécifiquement dans les cellules Ba/F3p190, dont la formation est sous la dépendance de l'absence d'activation de RhoA corrélée à une augmentation de l'activation de Cdc42. Enfin nous démontrons que la voie de signalisation RhoA/ROCK est spécifiquement activée dans les progéniteurs hématopoïétiques CD34+ issus de patients atteints de LMC et ce, indépendamment de l'activité tyrosine kinase de Bcr-AblBcr-Abl chimeric oncogenes (p190bcr-abl and p210bcr-abl) result from the t(9,22) chromosomal translocation that fuse the bcr and the c-abl genes. p210bcr-abl and p190bcr-abl are associated with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) and a subset of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) respectively. The only difference between these two chimeras is the presence of a specific RhoA-GEF domain in the p210bcr-abl oncogene. Bcr-Abl expression in Ba/F3 lymphoblasts induces spontaneous migration of these cells without apparent directionality. Motility triggering of Bcr-Abl-expressing Ba/F3 depends on the RhoGTPase Rac1.RhoA activity is associated with a typical amoeboid movement of Ba/F3p210 cells embedded in Matrigel™ 3D matrix, whereas the Ba/F3p190 cells, devoid of RhoA activity, display a rolling-type motility. In this work we showed that activation of the RhoA effector ROCK1 triggers two parallel pathways which are both necessary for amoeboid movement: 1) the Myosin Light chain (MLC) pathway 2) ADF family proteins (Actin Depolymerizing Factor) pathway, specifically the ADF/destrin isoform. Besides, we showed that Ba/F3p190 cells could assemble invadopodia-like structures. The formation of these structures is driven by the reduction of RhoA activity associated with the absence of the DH/PH domain in p190bcr-abl and correlates with an increase in Cdc42 activity. We finally demonstrated that the RhoA/ROCK pathway is constitutively activated in CD34+ cells isolated from CML patients while not in their normal counterparts. We also demonstrated that this activation is independent of the tyrosine Kinase activity of Bcr-Abl

Peu d'études empiriques se sont penchées sur les difficultés d'implantation des dispositifs abc/abm. Cette pauvreté rend difficile le retour critique sur les fondements théoriques. Plus directement encore, elle se traduit par de graves insuffisances en matière de partage d'expériences et de constitution de savoirs actionnables. En laissant démunies les organisations tentées par la mise en oeuvre de l'approche, ces carences constituent un frein puissant à la diffusion de l'innovation. La thèse rend compte d'une recherche intervention au sein d'une entreprise confrontée à un blocage des acteurs à l'égard d'un outil de calcul économique ABC. La première partie présente successivement les donnés de la situation puis le diagnostic qui a conduit à envisager le remplacement du système existant. La deuxième partie expose les fondements conceptuels et les caractéristiques d'un projet visant à la création d'un nouveau système d'aide à la gestion par les activités. La troisième partie relate les premiers pas de mise en oeuvre du projet et confronte l'expérience vécue à celle de trois autres entreprises. Trois thèmes principaux se dégagent de la dialectique établie entre le terrain et la théorie. Les interrogations afférentes à l'architecture des systèmes de calcul économiques ont notamment portées sur le traitement de la dimension transversale. Reliant dispositifs ABC/ABM et changements de représentations, l'étude s'est attachée à explorer les aspects cognitifs de ce type de projet. Les ambitions affichées par l'entreprise ont conduit à poser le problème de la place et du rôle d'un projet ABC/ABM dans le changement organisationnel.

Dissertation deals with the issue of cost management and budgeting through the methodology ABC / ABM. Using the ABC model allows for higher transparency in the costs in state organisational units. At the same time more effective cost management, including budget, through causal relationship between processes in organizations and their costs. Dissertation redefines the process of creating a model for state organisational units and analyzes the influence of various factors on the level of individual cost categories. In summarizing the outcome of the ratios based on the number of employees used to calculate the costs they are not very useful. The results of the regression analysis will confirm that a significant impact is mainly used asset value and technological developments.

This is a study and an edition of al-Tanbih wa'l-iclam fi mustafadi 'l-qudati wa l-hukkam by Abu Abd Allah Muhammad b. Abd Allah al-Yafrani known as al-qadi al-Miknai (d. 917/1511), a Moroccan scholar living in Fes during the last stages of the Merinid dynasty. The work is composed of two main parts: The first represents an editorial introduction in which a detailed study has been made in order to bring to light both the author and his book, focusing on the author's identity including his lineage as well as his scholarly life and career. In addition, we have set up a general picture of the political and intellectual environment in Morocco during the author's life time. With regard to the primary text, our study has sought to provide a description of the manuscript copies, a brief overview of the subject matter, and a consideration of the structure of the text and its sources from Maliki fiqh. We have also aimed to consider the author's treatment of his chosen topics. Observations of the edited work and some features of its importance as a contribution to the Maliki fiqh field are also offered. The general footnotes to the Arabic text, made in English along with the glossary of legal terms and phrases, and a bibliography are provided in this section. The second section is comprised of the primary text al-Tanbih wa 'l-icam which has been transcribed into typed form to make it more accessible to the reader, but remains in keeping with the original structure of the text. It is numbered in Arabic numerals and includes editorial footnotes which mark the differences between the manuscript copies. Chapters and sub chapters are clearly outlined, while indices of Qur'anic verses, prophetic traditions, persons and geographical names are located at the end of this section.

This thesis combines histories of the implementation of ABC Online (the website of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australia's largest national Public Service Broadcaster) with the political philosophies of Foucault, and of Deleuze and Guattari. Following the Deleuzian argument that institutions of enclosure are in crisis because they exist in between diagrams of the disciplinary and control societies, the thesis tests each of the Foucauldian diagrams of discipline, governmentality and control against the ABC as Public Service Broadcaster. It explores issues such as which ABC strategies belong to which diagram, and the ways in which changes in communications technologies altered governing rationales of these diagrams at the ABC. The thesis uses the implementation of ABC Online to explore the idea of the ABC in the late 1990s as operating in between social diagrams. One way of examining this 'in between-ness' is to use the Public Service Broadcasting idea as an instance of arboreal thinking and the internet idea as rhizomic. The thesis employs that model to argue that Public Service Broadcasting as it is practised is not merely an arboreal assemblage, and that actual implementations of the internet are more than merely rhizomic assemblages. The thesis details some of the earliest relations between broadcasting and the internet at the ABC, and describes the relations between rhizomic and arboreal images of the ABC at particular sites and in various discourses. This examination concludes that both ways of imagining the ABC - the arboreal and the rhizomic - have been essential to the success of ABC Online. While the position of the ABC in between social diagrams caused a sense of crisis, ABC Online was in fact successful largely because of its position in between social diagrams. Not only was ABC Online remarkably successful in its first five years, but it was successful in ways which could not be accommodated in such documents as the ABC Charter. The public silences of ABC Online both allowed it to thrive, and conversely supported arboreal stratified ways of defending the ABC. Defences of the ABC that used arboreal thinking as a rhetorical strategy continued to dominate public discussion of the ABC, despite the successes of contrary examples in practice. These subsites demonstrated an altered ethical relation between the ABC and its user in the online environment of the control society.

Além do professor de uma escola municipal do interior de Santa Catarina, que participou de um curso de Lingüística e Psicolingüística, os sujeitos foram 20 alunos da turma controle, antes do curso, e 24 da turma teste, depois do curso.
