Abstract (sommario):

Background: The number of people suffering from lifestyle diseases is increasing over the world, causing significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in developing countries. Changes in behaviour and the adoption of healthy lifestyle practises can help prevent or reduce the progression of lifestyle diseases. Many patients, however, lacked the knowledge, attitude, and practise of healthy lifestyles.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the 329 participants in the urban field practice area of the department of community medicine, JSS medical college, Mysore, with study duration of 6 months. A house-to-house survey was performed to recruit study participants using convenient sampling. participants will be interviewed by using the pre-designed, pre-tested and structured questionnaire which includes socio-demographic profile, dietary patterns, physical activity, type of personality, history of stress, history of tobacco and alcohol consumption, family history of lifestyle diseases like HT, DM etc.Results: Among 329 study participants 306 (93%) have practice of doing physical exercise, 328 (99.7%) decreased salt/oil intake, 329 (100%) stopped smoking/alcohol consumption, 329 (100%) check BP regular, 327 (99.4%) check blood sugar regularly, 328 (99.7%) stopped eating junk food/cool drinks, 329 (100%) take medicationsConclusions: Healthy practices need to be subsidized with the aid of using the dependent periodic medical exam. There need to be an emphasis on incorporating bodily workout within side the day by day routine, consumption of healthful diet, and decrease/cessation of alcohol and tobacco consumption.

Abstract (sommario):

In H-2d mice, the immunodominant determinant of the HIV-1-IIIB gp160 envelope glycoprotein recognized by CD8+ CTL is represented by a 15-residue synthetic peptide (315-329: RIQRGPGRAFVTIGK). This peptide is seen in association with the Dd class I MHC molecule expressed on H-2k L cell fibroblast targets. We explored the structural requirements for CTL recognition of this peptide at the levels of both the peptide molecule and the class I MHC molecule. Using several transfectants expressing recombinant Dd/Ld molecules, we found that presentation of this epitope required both the alpha 1 and alpha 2 domains of the Dd molecule, in contrast to certain instances of allorecognition for which alpha 1 of Dd was sufficient in association with alpha 2 of Ld. Because this peptide derives from a hypervariable segment of the HIV envelope, substituted peptides could be used to define not only the structures affecting interaction of peptide with class I MHC molecule and with the TCR, but also the structural basis for the effect of naturally occurring viral variation on CTL recognition. The CTL-LINE specific for this HIV-1-IIIB-derived sequence could not recognize the HIV-1-RF variant-derived sequence from exactly the same site (315-329:--HIGPGRVIYATGQ). Peptides with single amino acid substitutions from the HIV-1-IIIB sequence toward the HIV-1-RF sequence were made to test the effect of each residue significantly affected recognition, and only one, 324(F), was obligatory. Moreover, both 322(R) and 324(F) substituted peptides failed to inhibit the binding of the wild type peptide to the MHC molecule. Therefore, the amino-acids 322(R) and 324(F) seem to be involved in regulating peptide interaction with the Dd class I MHC molecule. In contrast, 325(V) appeared to affect interaction with the TCR. We suggest that sequence variations among known HIV-1 isolates that affect peptide binding to MHC such as those described here, if occurring during the course of infection of an individual, could result in failure of the MHC molecules of that individual to present the peptide. If the number of dominant HIV CTL epitopes is indeed very limited, such a blind spot could allow the virus to escape immune control, proliferate rapidly, and cause AIDS.

El medallón de bronce de Constantino RIC Rom. 279 fue datado por A. Alföldi en el año 326. Sin embargo, el análisis de su iconografía, puesta en relación con las fuentes numismáticas, epi-gráficas y literarias de la época, revela que de esta pieza se acuñaron dos series, la primera en 329, para conmemorar la campaña contra los godos de ese año, y la segunda en 332, para celebrar la definitiva rendición de este pueblo germánico. La representación de su reverso parece haberse inspirado en la obra del poeta Optaciano Porfirio, rehabilitado por el emperador en 329.

Abstract BACKGROUND The Gas6/AXL signaling pathway plays a substantial role in cancer cell survival, proliferation, immunosuppression, and metastasis. Elevated AXL expression is associated with advanced cancer stages and decreased overall survival rates, underscoring its potential as a therapeutic target for metastatic cancers. We investigated this possibility by utilizing AB-329, a selective small molecule AXL kinase inhibitor, to treat triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). TNBC, typified by the lack of ER, PR, and HER2 expression, frequently displays mesenchymal characteristics and carries a significant risk of metastasis and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. METHODS We assessed AXL protein expression in 28 human and 11 mouse breast cancer cell lines using Western blotting. The Microarray database was utilized to examine AXL gene expression in 40 human breast cancer cells. The Sulforhodamine B proliferation and soft agar assays measured the antiproliferative effect of AB-329 in TNBC cell lines. The in vitro anti-metastatic impact of AB-329 was evaluated through migration and invasion assays. We appraised the anti-tumor effects of AB-329 in combination with paclitaxel using 4T1 and E0771-LMB mouse TNBC xenograft models. We used FACS and CIBERSORTx to perform immune cell type profiling in E0771-LMB xenograft tumor tissues. To understand AB-329’s immunomodulatory effects in tumors, single-cell RNA sequencing was conducted in a humanized mouse model with SUM149 human TNBC xenografts. RESULTS Microarray data revealed higher AXL expression in TNBC cells compared to non-TNBC cells. Western blotting supported this, showing higher AXL protein expression, particularly in basal and mesenchymal subtypes of TNBC cells, compared to luminal breast cancer cells. AB-329 presented moderate antiproliferative effects as a monotherapy in the TNBC cell lines tested, with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations exceeding 5 µM. Nevertheless, combining AB-329 with paclitaxel resulted in significant growth inhibition in all tested TNBC cell lines (p < 0.05). Importantly, AB-329 alone could inhibit TNBC migration and invasion at a concentration of 1 µM (p < 0.01) and showed enhanced inhibition rates when paired with paclitaxel (p < 0.05). The combination of AB-329 and paclitaxel considerably reduced tumor growth in the 4T1 and E0771-LMB xenograft models compared to paclitaxel or AB-329. Total RNA sequencing and CIBERSORTx analysis indicated that the AB-329 and paclitaxel combination increased Natural Killer (NK) cells’ infiltration into E0771-LMB mouse TNBC xenograft tumors compared to single agent-treated tumors. A nearly 2.5-fold increase in NKT cell infiltration was also detected with AB-329 treatment compared to Control in SUM149 human TNBC xenografts. CONCLUSIONS Our preclinical data suggest that AB-329, an AXL inhibitor, could synergize effectively with paclitaxel in TNBC treatment, notably inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and migration while enhancing NK cell infiltration. Intriguingly, we observed an increased infiltration of NKT cells into tumors following AB-329 treatment, which may promote an anti-tumorigenic immuno-microenvironment. These results underscore the necessity for further investigation into the role of AB-329 in modulating the tumor immuno-microenvironment through AXL pathway inhibition and accentuate the potential for combining AB-329 with immunotherapy. Abstract (sommario):

The desire to procreate in patients living with HIV (PLHIV) has been seldom investigated in Africa, particularly in Gabon. The aim of this transversal and descriptive study was to analyze the socio-demographic and behavioral factors associated with a desire to have children in a cohort of PLHIV. The study included 442 patients, predominantly females [79.9% (337/422)], and those with a secondary school education [64.2% 271/422)]. The highest prevalence of HIV was found in patients aged 30-39 years old (44.3%), of which 59% (249/422) were unemployed. The desire to have children was noted in 78% (329/422) of patients, of which 82.4% (271/329) were treated with antiretroviral drugs; this was significantly higher in subjects under 40 years versus those over 40 years old [81% (268/329) versus 19% (61/329), p<0.001]. Sero-discordant couples represented 33.4% (110/329) of patients. The frequency of patients with the desire to have a child was significantly higher when patients wanted to hold the status of parent of a child [77% (255/329) versus 23% (74/329), p<0.001]; this was influenced by the partner's desire [60% 197/329 versus 40% (132/329), p< 0.001], as well as by the absence of weight loss [56% (185/329) versus 44% (144/329), p<0.001]. The average number of children was significantly lower in patients with the desire to procreate compared to those with no desire to have children [1.7 versus 3.2, p<0.001]. These first observations in Gabon highlight the importance of the desire to have children in PLHIV and sero-discordant couples, and they show the level of interest in developing assistance methods for procreation and family planning programs to help this population, as well as to reduce the risk of mother-to-child HIV transmission.

Background: Bone cancer pain (BCP) is a common symptom occurring among patients with cancer and has a detrimental effect on their quality of life. Growing evidence has implicated microRNA-329 (miR-329) in the progression of bone diseases. In the present study, we aimed to elucidate the potential effects of miR-329 on BCP in a BCP mouse model via binding to lysophosphatidic acid receptor 1 (LPAR1) through the LPAR1/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway. Methods: Initially, a BCP mouse model was established via injection of 4 × 104 murine breast tumor (4T1 cell) cells (4 μl). The interaction between miR-329 and LPAR1 was identified using a bioinformatics website and dual luciferase reporter gene assay. The modeled mice were subsequently treated with miR-329 mimic, LPAR1 shRNA, or both, in order to examine the effect of miR-329 on the paw withdrawal threshold (PWT) and paw withdrawal latency (PWL) of mice, the expression of LPAR1/ERK signaling pathway-related genes. Results: The positive expression rate of LPAR1 protein and extent of ERK1/2 phosphorylation were increased in BCP mouse models. LPAR1 is a target gene of miR-329, which can inhibit the expression of LPAR1. In response to miR-329 overexpression and LPAR1 silencing, BCP mice showed increased PWT and PWL, along with decreased LPAR1 expression and ratio of p-ERK/ERK. Conclusions: Altogether, the results obtained indicated that miR-329 can potentially alleviate BCP in mice via the inhibition of LPAR1 and blockade of the LPAR1/ERK signaling pathway, highlighting that upregulation of miR-329 could serve as a therapeutic target for BCP treatment.

Abstract (sommario):

This article investigated the microstructure and damping property of TPU composites with different contents of ultraviolet absorbents. It can be found that the ultraviolet absorbents formed fiber-shaped precipitations in the TPU matrix. The UV-328 was randomly distributed in the matrix and exhibited a weak interfacial bonding with the matrix. In comparison, the UV-329 was well embedded in the matrix and formed a relatively better interfacial bonding and compatibility with the TPU matrix. The damping factor tanδ of both 328-composites and 329-composites had been reduced gradually with increasing content of ultraviolet absorbents at the glass transition temperature range due to the fact that the ultraviolet absorbents were in the crystalline state which decreased the volume content of the viscoelastic TPU matrix. But the tanδ increased at the temperature range of higher than the glass transition temperature, which should be related to the dominance of interfacial frictions between the ultraviolet absorbents and the matrix on the energy absorption.

La calificación es el soporte del sistema registral y, como tal, se debe cumplir con su finalidad, empleando todos los elementos necesarios, generados en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico para que el registrador publicite actos válidos y legítimos. En vista de ello, en el presente artículo se analizan los alcances y límites de la calificación registral que realiza el Tribunal Registral de Arequipa, en torno a la solicitud de cierre de partida registral por renuncia al derecho de propiedad. Dependiendo de la procedencia de los actos que se buscan inscribir, el registrador va a emplear distintos métodos de calificación, es decir, va a obedecer los lineamientos planteados por las normas tratándose de documentos emanados del fuero judicial o de entidades administrativas. En torno a ello, el problema jurídico que se presenta es el alcance en la calificación que tiene el registrador para poder decidir si algún hecho que se presenta en la realidad y que quiere ingresar al Registro, cabe admitirlo, es decir, si además de realizar el análisis para ser configurado como un acto inscribible, es posible admitirlo en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico por más que en la actualidad no se encuentre regulado, creando derechos sustanciales que, inclusive conllevan a modificaciones de normas con rango de ley.

This work sets out to critically reconstruct human rights as both an ethical ideal and a political practice. I critique conventional moral justifications of human rights and the related role they play in legitimating political authority, arguing that the pluralism and political content of human rights cannot be eliminated. I reconstruct the relationship between ethics and politics through an engagement with pragmatist and pluralist moral theory, which I then develop into a democratising account of human rights by incorporating work on agonistic democracy. The resulting view of human rights is situated and agonistic, seeing the act of claiming human rights as a political act that makes demands on the social order in the name of a particular ethical ideal. Rather than seeing the political act of claiming rights as undermining human rights as universal moral principles, it becomes essential to global ethics as such. The international political aspect of rights is then examined by looking to the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in historical context, and contrasting human rights practice as expressed in popular social movements with conventional state-centric and legalist accounts. In the end the defence of human rights that is offered aims to preserve the transformative power of human rights claims, their democratising content, while undermining their totalising tendency, in which a singular conception of humanity provides certain moral principles to legitimate political authority.

Nos últimos anos a investigação tem enfatizado a importância da relação de pares na socialização das crianças e adolescentes. Os grupos de pares e a diversidade de relações que se desenvolvem no seu seio, contribuem em larga escala para o bem estar emocional e cognitivo da criança, uma vez que assume o papel de agente socializador na adopção de comportamentos prosociais, atitudes e valores para o desempenho e adaptação social. A entrada para a escolaridade representa uma mudança para muitas crianças, já que a integração no mundo social pode influenciar este processo Existem uma serie de requisitos necessários para o estabelecimento e manutenção de amizades, entre os quais se destacam a capacidade de se constituir como suporte e apoio dos pares e a capacidade de lidar com os conflitos de forma adequada. A qualidade da amizade que se tem com os pares e o seu estatuto social poderão influenciar um pouco mais a adaptação positiva ou menos positiva ao mundo social. As investigações sobre ajustamento de pares têm estado centradas nas diferenças sociais que enfatizam níveis de rejeição ou aceitação. Contudo, nos últimos anos, começou a surgir uma maior preocupação com os vários comportamentos e processos sócio-cognitivos que poderão influenciar o estatuto social no grupo de pares. O ajustamento de pares pode ser organizado em tomo do constructo da amizade, onde ter uma adaptação de sucesso ou insucesso inclui ter amigos recíprocos e qualidade de relacionamento, podendo esta qualidade estar relacionada com qualidade da amizade. Este trabalho procura constituir um contributo para a compreensão do vasto campo que é a amizade entre crianças (neste caso 9/10 anos). Aquilo que nos propomos perceber será o facto da existência ou não de alguma relação entre amizade, reciprocidade e qualidade da amizade.

Abstract (sommario):

One of the most relevant issues in the field of biology is the unveiling of the evolutionary history of different species and organisms. The evolutionary relationships of these species and organisms are explained by constructing phylogenetic trees whose leaves represent species and whose internal nodes represent hypothesized ancestors. The tree reconstruction process is known as Phylogenetic Inference. Phylogenies can be used not only for explaining the evolutionary history of organisms but also for many other purposes such as the design of new drugs by tracking the evolution of diseases. In the last few years, the amount of genetic data collected from organisms and species has increased greatly. Based on this, biologists have sought methods that are capable of computing phylogenies of small, medium, and even large datasets in a reasonable time and with accuracy. The neighbor-joining method is one used most for phylogenetic inference because of its computation efficiency. Since the increase of datasets, novel neighbor-joining- based approaches have been developed with the goal of computing efficiency and accurate phylogenies of thousands of sequences. Therefore, this study compared the canonical neighbor-joining method represented by MEGA software with two novel neighbor-joining-based approaches--the NINJA method and the FastTree method--to identify the most efficient and effective method for the computational performance, topological accuracy, and topological similarity through the scalability of the sequences size. The study was accomplished by executing experiments using small, medium, and large protein and nucleotide sequences. The FastTree method was the most successful at balancing the trade-off among the Computational Performance, Topological Accuracy, and Topological Similarity when scaling up the number of sequences in this study.

Limits of artificial intelligent, expert systems are defined by the specific hardware limitation of the specific system. Limits can be overcome, or addressed, by giving an intelligent system web access; therefore giving it access to Google's™ vast hardware, search functions and databases. Reverse image searches can be done directly in Google's™ image search bar since October 2011. This reverse image search function is used by the proposed system to do object recognition. Computational creativity, or the ability of a program or computer to show human-level creativity and interaction, is achieved by means of a voice communication of the object identification result to the user. The proposed system interprets the result by doing a definition web search and communicating this to the user. The results show that with the novel interpretation software, it should be possible to use Google™ as an artificial intelligent, computational creative system. This proposed system thus has the ability to do object classification by accessing Google's™ vast hardware, search functions and databases, thereafter would the proposed system search a suitable definition for the classification. All of this information is communicated to the user using voice. These techniques could be used on an automatic guided vehicle, robots or expert systems

Abstract (sommario):

DNA damage response pathways are a complicated network of proteins that function to remove and/or reverse DNA damage. Following genetic insult, a signal cascade is generated, which alerts the cell to the presence of damaged DNA. Once recognized, the damage is either removed or the damaged region is excised, and the original genetic sequence is restored. However, when these pathways are defective the cell is unable to effectively mediate the DNA damage response and the damage persists unrepaired. Thus, the proteins that maintain the DNA damage response pathway are critical in preserving genomic stability. One essential DNA repair protein is the Breast Cancer Associated gene, BRCA1. BRCA1 is essential for mediating the DNA damage response, facilitating DNA damage repair, and activating key cell cycle checkpoints. Moreover, mutations in BRCA1 lead to a higher incidence of breast and ovarian cancer, highlighting the importance of BRCA1 as a tumor suppressor. In an effort to better understand how BRCA1 carried out these functions, researchers sought to identify additional BRCA1 interacting proteins. This led to the identification of several proteins including the BRCA1 Associated C-terminal Helicase, BACH1. Due to the direct interaction of BACH1 with a region of BRCA1 essential for DNA repair and tumor suppression, it was speculated that BACH1 may help support these BRCA1 function(s). In fact, initial genetic screenings confirmed that mutations in BACH1 correlated not only with hereditary breast cancer, but also with defects in DNA damage repair processes. The initial correlation between BACH1 and cancer predisposition was further confirmed when mutations in BACH1 were identified in the cancer syndrome Fanconi anemia (FA) (complementation group FA-J), thus giving BACH1 its new name FANCJ. These findings supported a previously established link between the FA and BRCA pathways and between FA and DNA repair. In particular, we demonstrated that similar to other FA/BRCA proteins, suppression of FANCJ lead to a substantial decrease in homologous recombination and enhanced both the cellular sensitivity to DNA interstrand cross-linking agents and chromosomal instability. What remained unknown was specifically how FANCJ functioned and whether these functions were dependent on its interaction with BRCA1 or other associated partners. In fact, we identified that FANCJ interacted directly with the MMR protein MLH1. Moreover, we found that the FANCJ/BRCA1 interaction was not required to correct the cellular defects in FA-J cells, but rather that the FANCJ/MLH1 interaction was required. Although both the FA/BRCA and MMR pathways undoubtedly mediate the DNA damage response, there was no evidence to suggest that these pathways were linked, until recently. Our findings not only indicate a physical link between these pathways by protein-protein interaction, but also demonstrated a functional link.

Abstract (sommario):

The town of Davie, Florida, converted a defunct wastewater treatment plant into an aquaculture facility. A feasibility study was conducted of the facility and it was determined that tilapia would be best suited for growout at the facility. Oreochromis aureus and a hybrid of Oreochromis niloticus are the two fish currently being grown at the aquaculture facility. A review of fish culture suggests that a filtration system that influences water quality will be needed to grow healthy fish. Furthermore, harvesting will prove to be very difficult in the deep tanks, and a most practical methodology for harvesting must be devised. Two filters were built-one from PVC pipe, nylon cord, and plastic biobarrels, and the other from a PVC frame and wetland plants. Water was run through the filters for 10 days prior to taking water samples. Water samples were then collected, frozen, and transported to the lab for analysis. The water samples were analyzed for ammonia, nitrate, and phosphate concentrations. The results indicate that the filter made of the biobarrels caused a significant increase in nitrate concentrations in the water. The results also indicate that the biobarrel filter was significantly more effective than the hydroponics filter in influencing water quality. There was no significant difference in ammonia or phosphate levels between the two filters. Three separate harvesting nets were compared. One net was built of hog wire, the second net was made of a stretchable nylon mesh, and the third was made of a nonstretchable nylon mesh. There was no significant difference in the three nets used for harvesting, and, according to the catch per unit effort, it was determined that the nets were ineffective as harvesters. However, the nets did prove to be capable of crowding fish of a desired weight in such a way that facilitated catching the fish with a cast net. Two different sized cast nets were analyzed to determine their effectiveness in sampling. Each net was cast into the same depth of water 30 times and the catches per unit effort were compared. This was repeated for twelve depths. It was found that catch size was significantly different for the two nets and that catch per cast increased with decreasing depth until shallow water (<5 >ft) prevented proper net closure. However, there was no significant difference in determining the number of fish per unit volume when comparing the catches of each net. Finally, a comparison was made between two species (Oreochromis aureus and Oreochromis niloticus hybrids) to determine which species was more suited for growth at the Aquaculture Center. Random samples of various sizes for each species were taken simultaneously for a period of time. This information was used to calculate and compare the growth rates of the two species. It was determined that, although the growth rate of blue tilapia was greater than that of hybrid tilapia, hybrid tilapia had a higher overall production rate, possibly because it could tolerate higher stocking densities. These results helped answer several questions about culture methods, and modifications to the facility, based on these results, were ultimately made.

A rhetorical model of the debate centered on the image of a labyrinth is more suitable than the metaphor of debate-as-game in describing the benefits of arguing in front of an audience. The labyrinth best expresses that proceeding by successive choices, coming and going, and sometimes retracing one's steps, typical of the debate activity. The basic thesis is that arguing is a continuous adaptation of one's speeches according to the audience that listens. In fact, in the labyrinth, what matters is not only arriving at the outcome - the exit or reaching the center of the structure - but the path you choose to get there is equally important. More than the definitive and winning argument, which rarely occurs in discussions, the labyrinth teaches us to recognise the plurality of approaches adopted when faced with an issue.

We have numerically investigated the photon-magnon coupling in the chain of 10 periodically located H-shape resonators. A strong coupling strength was reached up to geff/2π = 329 MHz at the frequency of 6.3 GHz. The influence of the number of resonators in the chain on the coupling strength value is analyzed.

This study was conducted in accordance with California Senate Bill 1161 (2022), legislation that directed the Mineta Transportation Institute to develop a reliable, easy-to-use survey instrument for collecting information from public transit passengers about the extent, location, and characteristics of any street harassment they experience. Although the legislation is focused on large California transit agencies, the study findings are equally relevant to smaller agencies and agencies outside the state. To develop the recommended questionnaire, we reviewed literature about street harassment, analyzed transit passenger surveys to explore the questions asked about safety and harassment, received feedback on iterative drafts of the questionnaire from numerous transit riders and experts, and pilot-tested the survey with 329 bus and train riders. The recommended questionnaire is available on the MTI website in fourteen languages, including English, Spanish, and Chinese.

On 7 July 2020, the National Council – the first chamber of the Austrian Parliament – passed a package of legislation introducing a new framework for the methods of allocating federal budgets to research, technology, and innovation (RTI). Its core is the Research Financing Act (RFA), complemented by several amendments to existing laws that are necessary for its implementation. Entry into force was on 25 July 2020, the amendments became effective as of 1 January 2021 (BGBl1. I No. 75/20202). The RFA is the biggest legislative project in the field of RTI policy since 2004 when the Research Funding Agency (FFG) was established (Pichler et al. 2007, pp. 329-336; Stampfer et al. 2010, pp. 775-776). For the first time, budget law regulations are now aligned with the needs of institutions performing or funding RTI (Pichler 2021). This article outlines the background and content of the RFA and concludes with a view on the significance of evaluation within the new system.

This paper employs a simple methodology to estimate the potential economic damages of the 2021 earthquake in Haiti. The country registered a magnitude 7.2 earthquake off the South Coast on August 14, 2021, that resulted in 2,248 deaths, 12,763 injured and substantial damages to houses and other infrastructure. An additional 329 persons remain missing. We estimate economic damages using econometric techniques and a dataset on natural disasters across a wide range of countries and over an extended time period. Based on this analysis, damages for the 2021 earthquake in Haiti are estimated to reach US$1.6 billion (9.6 percent of GDP) for a scenario with an impact of 2,500 dead or missing. We also generate confidence intervals on these results. We hope these early estimates will provide a useful input to the ongoing Post-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDNA) and will assist the government and its international partners plan efforts to assist the country in terms of relief and reconstruction.

Contextualización Los riesgos ambientales presentes en las diferentes actividades académicas, han venido variando por la incorporación de nuevas tecnologías y metodologías de estudio; ocasionando que éstos aparezcan en entornos que no estaban diseñados para realizar estas actividades tales como la iluminación, el cual un factor crítico y fundamental para el desarrollo académico. Vacío del conocimiento Se desconoce si los estudiantes de educación a distancia, presentan riesgos por iluminación en el área donde trabajan y/o estudian dentro de sus viviendas. Propósito de estudio Partiendo de lo anterior y debido a la complejidad que trajo la pandemia para volcar el hogar hacia áreas de recreación, trabajo y estudio permanentes; surgió esta investigación que busca identificar el riesgo por iluminación en las áreas de estudio de los estudiantes de educación superior a distancia. Metodología Para el desarrollo del presente estudio, se trabajó con una muestra no probabilística de 329 estudiantes de educación universitaria a distancia, quienes habían adquirido formación en Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo previamente. Se aplicó una sección de la guía técnica de evaluación de iluminación como herramienta de recolección de información desarrollada por el INSST de España; con base en ello, se acudió a una aplicación móvil para medir la iluminación en el puesto de trabajo durante las horas de la mañana, tarde y noche. Resultados y Conclusiones Se encontró que el 35% de los estudiantes contaban con zonas exclusivas de estudio, el 74% perciben que los niveles de iluminación son óptimos para realizar estas actividades; un 30% de éstos manifiesta tener problemas asociados al cansancio y la fatiga visual, al utilizar y analizar los niveles de luminidad, se evidencio que, en promedio, solo un 30% de los encuestados cuentan con niveles de iluminación óptimos para realizar esta actividad de acuerdo con la norma.

Turbocharger performance, especially on SIP-call engines, remains essentially unmeasured even though tracking information over time would provide critical information to help field engineers lower their engine emissions as well as the cost of operations. In 2006, with the assistance of funding from the Pipeline Research Council International Inc., ScavengeTech LLC developed and field tested a turbocharger monitoring system that consisted of a set of analog sensors to measure key turbocharger performance parameters and hardware to interface the sensor outputs to a computer. The collected data was then analyzed via a series of spreadsheets that normalized the data and trended it over time. While successfully demonstrated in the field, the hardware system was large and expensive. The anticipated sales price of $25,000 was outside the price point for widespread adoption by the industry. The objective of this project was to modify the turbocharger monitoring system to: 1) incorporate digital sensors, 2) decrease the footprint of the system, and 3) integrate the collected data and identified algorithms into one software package.

Small (5.56 mm, 7.62 mm and 9 mm) and medium (12.7 mm) arms rounds were fired at snow-filled 1.5m cubic gabions in a mid-winter condition in Fairbanks, Alaska. The rounds were excavated and penetration by each ammunition type was measured. A distribution and average of penetration depth was determined. All 320 rounds fired were captured within 1.5m after entering the snow barrier. Comparison with published models of ballistics penetration of snow showed mixed results with several matching our data within 10% and all but one within 32%. However, most of these models are simplistic in that they accommodate limited variables and therefore may not be expected to perform well in all settings. We conclude that snow-based ballistics protection structures can be quickly and efficiently erected in suitable environments and with minimal size, can provide reliable protection against small and medium arms fire.
