Abstract (sommario):
Brevilaterins, antimicrobial peptides produced by Brevibacillus laterosporus, are regarded as excellent food preservatives and are popular as antimicrobial applications. Recent research has uncovered their potent cytotoxic effects against diverse cancer cells, thereby underscoring the pressing need for more extensive and intensive investigations into this use. In this study, we explored their novel function in inducing cytotoxicity to cancer cells and systematically investigated the mechanism of action of Brevilaterin B/C (BB/BC) in vivo. Proliferation, membrane permeability, and apoptotic rate were evaluated using CCK-8 assay, LDH assay, and Annexin V-FITC/PI kits. ROS levels and mitochondrial membrane potential were detected using the fluorescent probe DCFH-DA and JC-1. Our results demonstrated that both BB and BC at concentrations of 4–6 µg/mL significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells BGC-823. Treatment with 4 µg/mL of BB/BC rapidly increased LDH levels in the supernatant of BGC-823 cells, leading to further investigation of the mechanism of apoptosis. We found that the apoptotic rate of BGC-823 cells significantly increased upon treatment with BB/BC, demonstrating their potent induction of apoptosis. BB/BC-induced ROS production in BGC-823 cells impaired their growth and induced apoptosis, indicating a close association between apoptosis and ROS elevation. Additionally, JC-1 aggregates rapidly accumulated after treatment with 4 µg/mL of BB/BC, suggesting changes in mitochondrial membrane potential and early apoptosis. Taken together, our findings revealed that BB and BC exhibit significant anticancer effects against gastric cancer cells, highlighting the promising potential of Brevilaterins as anticancer agents.

Abstract (sommario):
1. Introduction Ti has superior properties, such as high specific strength, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and is used for many fields such as airplane, chemical plant, consumer products. However, its high manufacturing cost and poor processability have hindered its further spread. Thus, a number of smelting processes and processing methods have been investigated to reduce the cost and spread the use of Ti. Among them, plating Ti metal on inexpensive substrates is one of the methods that can utilize the surface properties of Ti. Electrodeposition is a promising plating method from the viewpoints of the cost and the flexibility in shape of substrate. Therefore, electrodeposition of Ti metal in high-temperature molten salts has been investigated for a long time [1–3]. Our group has reported the electrodeposition of Ti films with compact and smooth surfaces in molten KF–KCl and LiF–LiCl containing Ti(III) ions at 923 K [4–7]. We also reported that the Ti films obtained in LiF–LiCl at 823 K had smoother surfaces [8]. In the present study, we investigated the effect of temperature on the grain growth and smoothness of Ti films electrodeposited in LiF–LiCl eutectic melt at 823–973 K. 2. Experimental The experiments were carried out in eutectic LiF–LiCl melt (30:70 mol%, melting point 774 K) at 823–973 K. The melt was placed in a nickel crucible and the experiments were conducted in an airtight Kanthal container in an argon glove box. As Ti(III) ion sources, Li2TiF6 (2.00 mol%) and Ti sponge (1.33 mol%) were added to the melt. The added amounts of Ti sponge were twice the amounts necessary to generate Ti(III) ions by comproportionation reaction between Ti(IV) ions and Ti(0) according to Eq. 1. Ti(0) + 3Ti(IV) → 4Ti(III) (1) Ni plates were used as working electrodes, and Ti rods was used as counter and reference electrodes. The samples prepared by galvanostatic electrolysis were analyzed by XRD and SEM/EDX after washing with distilled water to remove adhered salts. 3. Results and Discussion Fig. 1 shows the optical and surface SEM images of the samples obtained by galvanostatic electrolysis at 823, 873, 923, and 973 K. The cathodic current density was 50 mA cm−2 and electrolysis time was 20 min. All the samples have a metallic luster and are confirmed to be Ti metal by XRD analysis. However, the brightness differs between samples, with the Ti film at 823 K showing the highest brightness. From the surface SEM images, the crystal grain size of Ti increases as the temperature rises. This tendency is reasonably explained by previous work on the temperature dependence on grain growth of Ti [9]. Also, the value of surface roughness (Sa) measured by SEM increases as the temperature increases. The smoothest Ti film with Sa = 2.05 ± 0.22 μm was obtained at 823 K. These results show that Ti film with smoother surface can be electrodeposited by suppressing the grain growth of Ti at lower temperatures. To obtain thicker films, electrolysis was conducted for longer time at 823 K, where grain growth is suppressed. Fig. 2 shows the optical and SEM images of the samples obtained by galvanostatic electrolysis at a cathodic current density of 50 mA cm−2 and charge densities of 60, 150, and 450 C cm−2. As shown in the SEM images, the thickness of the Ti film increases with the increase in charge density. Although some deposition onto the edge was observed at 450 C cm−2, the thickness of the Ti film reaches 100 μm. Abstract (sommario):
Present study aimed to elucidate the anticancer effect and the possible molecular mechanism underlying the action of Latcripin 1 (LP1), from the mushroom Lentinula edodes strain C91-3 against gastric cancer cell lines SGC-7901 and BGC-823. Cell viability was measured by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8); morphological changes were observed by phase contrast microscope; autophagy was determined by transmission electron microscope and fluorescence microscope. Apoptosis and cell cycle were assessed by flow cytometer; wound-healing, transwell migration and invasion assays were performed to investigate the effect of LP1 on gastric cancer cell’s migration and invasion. Herein, we found that LP1 resulted in the induction of autophagy by the formation of autophagosomes and conversion of light chain 3 (LC3I into LC3II. LP1 up-regulated the expression level of autophagy-related gene (Atg7, Atg5, Atg12, Atg14) and Beclin1; increased and decreased the expression level of pro-apoptotic (Bax) and anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2) proteins respectively, along with the activation of Caspase-3. At lower-doses, LP1 have shown to arrest cells in the S phase of the cell cycle and decreased the expression level of matrix metalloproteinase MMP-2 and MMP-9. In addition, it has also been shown to regulate the phosphorylation of one of the most hampered gastric cancer pathway, that is, protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (Akt/mTOR) channel and resulted in cell death. These findings suggested LP1 as a potential natural anti-cancer agent, for exploring the gastric cancer therapies and as a contender for further in vitro and in vivo investigations.

Abstract (sommario):
Background Multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) is critical in the diagnosis and management of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), through immunophenotyping (IP), and minimal residual disease (MFC MRD) analysis. The aberrant expression of myeloid markers in B- and T-lineage ALL is a well-known phenomenon. It may be the result of an adaptive mechanism by lineage switch (SW), defined as any variation of blast IP over time. CD371 is a transmembrane glycoprotein usually expressed on normal myeloid cells and most of the myeloid blasts. Aberrant expression of CD371 was observed in DUX4-rearranged B cell precursor ALL (BCP ALL). Aims To investigate the clinical and biological features of CD371 positive (CD371+) pediatric BCP ALL, pointing out its potential implication in MFC MRD monitoring on Day 15. Materials and Methods From June 2014 to January 2017, 862 children with newly diagnosed t(9;22)(q34.1;11.2);BCR-ABL1 negative BCP ALL, were consecutively enrolled in the AIEOP BFM ALL 2009 study by AIEOP centers. Peripheral blood (PB) and bone marrow (BM) samples (SMPs) were processed and analyzed in the Laboratory of Diagnosis and Research of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, University of Padua, Italy, according to standardized operating protocols designed by the AIEOP BFM Flow Network. At diagnosis, 9 combinations of 8 monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) were used for IP. MFC MRD (Day 8 on PB, Day 15, 33, and 78 on BM) was performed with 2 combinations of 8 MoAbs from June 2014 to May 2016. Later, a dry 10 colors preformulated tube was adopted for MFC MRD monitoring. Results At diagnosis, CD371 expression was assessed in 823 of 862 (95.5%) SMPs by as many patients (pts; age: 1-17 years; male/female: 446/377). Of those, CD371 was positive in 75 of 823 SMPs (9.1%). CD371 positivity was associated with older age, euploidy, a more immature immunophenotype (B-I as per EGIL classification), and the aberrant expression of CD2 antigen, as well as at least one myeloid marker (Table). CD371+ SMPs showed a stronger expression of CD34, CD45, and CD58 antigens than CD371 negative SMPs (Table). We performed MFC MRD analysis on 207 SMPs of CD371+ BCP ALL (42 on Day 8, 72 on Day 15, 40 on Day 33, and 53 on Day 78). During the first 15 days of Induction therapy, a monocytoid population appeared in 76 SMPs [26 of 42 (61.9%) on Day 8 and 50 of 72 (69.4%) on Day 15]. It was characterized by a strong expression of CD34, CD58 and CD45, reduced expression of CD19, and high SSC. We interpreted that phenomenon as an SW to the myelomonocytic lineage, as previously described in a subtype of BCP ALL expressing CD2 at diagnosis. Myelomonocytic SW displayed 2 different patterns: (a) a single population of blasts with heterogeneous expression of CD19 (strong to dim/negative); (b) 2 distinct populations: the first one with the IP of diagnosis, the second one showing a downregulation of CD19 and CD34, an intensification of CD45, and an increase of SSC (Figure). At the same time points, a clear monocytoid population was visible on May-Grunwald-Giemsa stained smears. The comparison between MFC MRD and PCR MRD data showed a higher concordance when both the populations were included in the final amount of blasts on Day 15 (concordance rate: 89% vs. 82%). SW was transient and disappeared after Day 15, even though chemotherapy was always carried on as per therapeutic ALL protocol. CD371 antigen was an accurate marker of SW in our cohort [sensitivity = 0.93 (95% CI ± 0.06), specificity = 0.98 (95% CI ± 0.005), accuracy = 0.98]. Finally, CD371 positivity was associated with a worse response to Induction therapy, showing a higher proportion of pts enrolled in the high therapeutic risk group of the trial, most frequently due to a slow early response according to PCR MRD on Day 33 and 78 (Table). Conclusions We described a new subtype of pediatric BCP ALL, characterized by the aberrant expression of CD371 and a potential myelomonocytic SW during the first phase of Induction Therapy. Accurate identification of the lineage SW is mandatory to properly assess MFC MRD on Day 15 in these pts, avoiding an underestimation of blast cells. This is particularly important, considering that CD371+ BCP ALL was associated with a poor response to Induction therapy. Even in presence of a prevalent monocytoid population, chemotherapy should be carried on according to a therapeutic protocol for ALL. CD371 antigen should be part of IP diagnosis panel for ALL. A multicenter study of AIEOP BFM Flow Network centers is ongoing. Abstract (sommario):
SUMMARYHereford (H × H), Brahman × Hereford (B × H), Simmental × Hereford (S × H) and Friesian × Hereford (F × H) females born over a 5-year period (1973–77) were placed on pastures of high, medium or low nutritive value at Grafton, New South Wales, Australia, at weaning (7–8 months of age). The first mating of heifers on high pasture was at 15 months (1974) while that on medium and low pastures was delayed until 27 months of age (1975). This paper reports the reproductive performance of these cows up to 5 years of age and the preweaning growth of their calves which were sired by Hereford bulls at Grafton, Australia. In total, 1222 calving records were analysed. Most traits were subject to interaction between genotype and other main effects (pasture, year of birth of cow, cow age and sex of calf). Eyelid pigmentation was an exception, with calves from B × H cows having more than calves of other genotypes (73 v. 43%). There were significant genotype differences in calving difficulty among 2-year-old heifers only, with H × H (33%) requiring more assistance than F × H (15%) and SxH (10%) heifers, while B × H heifers did not require any assistance. Genotype differences in percentage of calves born and weaned were observed on low pastures only, where B × H (66% born, 65% weaned) exceeded H × H (48%, 39%) and S × H (39%, 38%) cows, with F × H (58%, 50%) cows being intermediate. Calves by H × H cows were the slowest-growing and were the lightest at weaning on all pastures, with mean gains of 759, 604 and 340 g/day, and mean weaning weights of 212, 188 and 110 kg, on high, medium and low quality pastures, respectively. F × H and S × H cows produced the fastest-growing calves on high quality pasture (966 and 936 g/day, respectively) while B × H cows produced the fastest-growing calves on medium (823 g/day) and low (679 g/day) quality pastures. F × H cows weaned the heaviest calves on high quality pasture (274 kg) while F × H and B × H weaned the heaviest calves on medium (230 and 229 kg, respectively) and low (162 and 169 kg, respectively) quality pastures. Differences in body measurements followed a pattern similar to weaning weight.

Abstract (sommario):
As part of the molecular recognition studies on the phytohormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) a series of fluorinated IAA's has been examined. The phenyl ring substitution at positions 4, 5, 6 and 7 resulted in four compounds, which were analyzed. Structure–activity correlation includes the analysis of their molecular conformations, based on the X-ray diffraction and computational chemistry results, and bioactivity determinations in the Avena coleoptile and the Pisum sativum stem straight-growth tests, lipophilicity and UV absorbance. The conformations of monofluorinated IAA's and a free hormone are defined by rotations about two bonds: one describes the relative orientation of a side chain towards the indole plane and the second the orientation of the carboxylic group. The results of X-ray structure analysis revealed the folded shape of the molecules in all compounds studied. Molecular mechanics and dynamics located the folded conformation as the local minimum, but failed to detect the planar conformation as one of the local minima, which according to ab initio results on IAA and 4-CI-IAA could also be possible. Crystal data at 295 K for 4-F-IAA and at 297 K for 5-F-IAA, and at 100 K for 6-F-IAA and 7-F-IAA using Mo Kα radiation (λ = 0.71073 Å) and Cu Kα (λ = 1.5418 Å, for 7-F-IAA), are as follows: 4-F-IAA, C10H8NO2F, Mr = 193.18, monoclinic, C2/c, a = 17.294 (5), b = 13.875 (4), c = 7.442 (4) Å, β = 103.88 (6)°, V = 1734 (1) Å3, Z = 8, Dx = 1.480 g cm−3, μ = 1.1 cm−1, F(000) = 800, R = 0.043, wR = 0.044 for 823 symmetry-independent [I ≥ 3σ(I)] reflections; 5-F-IAA, C10H8NO2F, monoclinic, P21/c, a = 19.284 (5), b = 5.083 (4), c = 9.939 (4) Å, β = 117.28 (6)°, V = 865.9 (1) Å3, Z = 4, Dx = 1.482 g cm−3, μ = 1.1 cm−1, F(000) = 400, R = 0.062, wR = 0.057 for 729 symmetry-independent [I ≥ 3σ(I)] reflections; 6-F-IAA, C10H8NO2F, monoclinic, P21/a, a = 9.360 (1), b = 5.167 (4), c = 17.751 (4) Å, β = 93.75 (1)°, V = 856.7 (8) Å3, Z = 4, Dx = 1.498 g cm−3, μ = 1.1 cm−1, F(000) = 400, R = 0.048, wR = 0.048 for 1032 symmetry-independent [I ≥ 2σ(I)] reflections; 7-F-IAA, C10H8NO2F, monoclinic, P21/a, a = 9.935 (5), b = 5.0059 (4), c = 17.610 (1) Å, β = 102.13 (1)°, V = 856.3 (1) Å3, Z = 4, Dx = 1.498 g cm−3, μ = 9.8 cm−1 (Cu Kα, F(000) = 400, R = 0.035, wR = 0.040 for 1504 symmetry-independent [I ≥ 2σ(I)] reflections.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Despite the existence of well-established clinical prognostic indices for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and follicular lymphoma (FL), the 2 most common subtypes of NHL, significant heterogeneity in survival remains even within prognostic groups. SES has not previously been evaluated as a prognostic factor for NHL, particularly using an unselected patient population. We therefore used the large multiethnic CCR to examine NHL survival according to histology, race/ethnicity and neighborhood SES. Methods: NHL pts were identified from the CCR for the period 1988–97 using standardized ICD-0-3 classifications (morphology codes 9690–99 for FL & 9680–84 for DLBCL). Patients with evidence of HIV/AIDS were excluded. Neighborhood SES was assigned based on the address of residence at diagnosis, according to 1990 US Census Bureau census block group (each block contains about 1500 residents), and is based upon principal components of 7 indicator variables of SES (education level, proportion with blue collar job, proportion unemployed, median household income, proportion below 200% of poverty line, median rent & median home value). Using this index, we assigned each patient into an SES quintile (SES-1 lowest, SES-5 highest) based on the statewide distribution of neighborhood SES. We computed 5-year relative survival ± standard error (SE) with SEER*Stat software using customized race and SES-specific life tables based on US Census Bureau estimates for California residents. Results: Unselected DLBCL pts [n=13,604; comprising 73% non-Hispanic White (W), 4% Black (B), 14% Hispanic (H), 8% Asian/Pacific Islander (A)] & FL pts (n=7372; 82% W, 3% B, 11% H, 4% A) were identified. The overall 5 yr relative survival for DLBCL was 45.5% (SE 0.5) and for FL was 71.1% (SE 0.6); females had a better survival than males for DLBCL [F 48.3% (SE 0.7) vs. M 42.3% (SE 0.6)] but not for FL. Lower SES was associated with inferior survival for both DLBCL & FL (Table 1). Within SES groups there were not significant racial/ethnic differences in survival. However, in DLBCL, B (34%) and H (33%) pts were proportionally more likely to be in SES-1 than W (9%) or A pts (15%), and less likely to be in SES-5 (9% B, 10% H) than W (27%) or A (22%) pts. Similarly, in FL, B (39%) & H (26%) pts were also more likely than W (8%) & A (10%) pts to be in SES-1 and less likely to be in SES-5 (W-29%, A-32%, B-10%, H-11%). Conclusion: SES predicts survival in DLBCL and FL. Race/ethnicity differences in SES distribution are apparent in NHL patients, but when stratified by SES, race/ethnicity does not appear to predict for significant differences in NHL survival. 5 Year Relative Survival in DLBCL & FL by SES & Race SES-1 (%) SE (%) n SES-5 (%) SE (%) n W-non-Hispanic White; A-Asian/Pacific Islander; B-Black; H-Hispanic DLBCL 40.6 1.3 1905 49.4 1.0 3192 W 38.4 1.9 915 49.4 1.1 2701 A 44.0 4.2 168 48.2 3.5 244 B 45.0 4.2 185 54.3 7.3 51 H 41.6 2.1 637 48.9 4.0 196 FL 66.4 2.1 823 76.6 1.2 1959 W 66.3 2.7 502 77.1 1.2 1753 A 65.4 10.0 30 72.0 5.0 93 B 69.1 6.5 85 76.1 10.0 22 H 65.9 3.8 206 71.8 5.4 91

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractSoftware verifiers have different strengths and weaknesses, depending on properties of the verification task. It is well-known that combinations of verifiers via portfolio and selection approaches can help to combine the strengths. In this paper, we investigate (a) how to easily compose such combinations from existing, ‘off-the-shelf’ verification tools without changing them and (b) how much performance improvement easy combinations can yield, regarding the effectiveness (number of solved problems) and efficiency (consumed resources). First, we contribute a method to systematically and conveniently construct verifier combinations from existing tools, using the composition framework CoVeriTeam. We consider sequential portfolios, parallel portfolios, and algorithm selections. Second, we perform a large experiment on 8 883 verification tasks to show that combinations can improve the verification results without additional computational resources. All combinations are constructed from off-the-shelf verifiers, that is, we use them as published. The result of our work suggests that users of verification tools can achieve a significant improvement at a negligible cost (only configure our composition scripts).

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We consider groups of prime-power exponent q =pk> 4 (with k > 1). Adjan’s solution of the Burnside problem [l] tells us that if r≥2, q ≥665, and p > 2 then B(r, q) is infinite. Zelmanov’s solution of the restricted Burnside problem for groups of prime-power exponent implies that L(r, q) is nilpotent, but Razmyslov’s Theorem tells us that L(r, q) has derived length at least 1 + [log2 r]. We look at the Lie rings of groups of exponent pk in §8.1. In §8.2 and §8.3 we look at some results in exponents 8 and 9.

Abstract (sommario):
The journey of business, management, and accounting education over the past decades included several teaching methods which may nowadays be considered outdated for the modern students who live, learn, and connect through technology. This study clusters the academic literature addressing online learning and b-learning applied to educational and training in the business, management, and accounting. Through the collection of all the relevant publications in Scopus, this study uses automated text mining techniques in VOSviewer software for comparing the evolution overtime of the online and blended methods in the context of scientific knowledge production. The results unveil that online-learning-related literature is grouped in nine clusters, instead of the seven clusters in case of blended learning, meaning that the first is more disperse in terms of topics. An in-depth analysis of the studies most closely related to each cluster's terms allow the authors to provide critical reflections that help professionals when choosing the accurate method and also the academics in identifying future research agendas.

Abstract (sommario):
Over the past twenty-five years, genetic methods have generated a wealth of information on the regulation and the structure-function relationship of bacterial genes. These methods are based on the introduction of random mutations in a gene to alter its function. Subsequently, genetic techniques cure applied to localize the mutation, while the nature of the impairedfunction could be determined using biochemical methods. Classic examples of this approach is now considered to be the elucidation of the structure and function of genes, constituting the Escherichia coli lactose (lac) and tryptophan (trp) operons, and the detailed establishment of the structure and function of the repressor (lacl) of the lac operon. Recombinant DNA techniques and the development of appropriate expression systems have provided the means both to study structure and functionof eukaryotic (glyco-) proteins and to create defined mutations with a predestinedposition. The rationale for the construction of mutant genes should preferentiallyrely on detailed knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of the gene product.Elegant examples are the application of in vitro mutagenesis techniques to substitute amino-acid residues near the catalytic centre of subtilisin, a serine proteasefrom Bacillus species and to substituteanamino acid in the reactive site (i.e. Pi residue; methionine) of α-antitrypsin, a serine protease inhibitor. Such substitutions have resulted into mutant proteins which are less susceptible to oxidation and, in some cases, into mutant proteins with a higher specific activity than the wild-type protein. If no data are available on the ternary structure of a protein, other strategies have to be developed to construct intelligent mutants to study the relation between the structure and the function of a eukaryotic protein. At least for a number of gene families, the gene structure is thought to be created by "exon shuffling", an evolutionary recombinational process to insert an exon or a set of exons which specify an additional structural and/or functional domain into a pre-existing gene. Both the structure of the tissue-type plasminogen activator protein(t-PA) and the t-PA gene suggest that this gene has evolved as a result of exon shuffling. As put forward by Gilbert (Science 228 (1985) 823), the "acid test"to prove the validity of the exon shuffling theory is either to delete, insert or to substitute exon(s) (i.e. in the corresponding cDNA) and toassay the properties of the mutant proteins to demonstrate that an exon or a set of adjacent exons encode (s) an autonomousfunction. Indeed, by the construction of specific deletions in full-length t-PA cDNA and expression of mutant proteins intissue-culture cells, we have shown by this approach that exon 2 of thet-PA gene encodes the function required forsecretion, exon 4 encodes the "finger" domain involved in fibrin binding(presumably on undegraded fibrin) and the set of exons 8 and 9 specifies kringle 2, containing a lysine-binding sit(LBS) which interacts with carboxy-terminal lysines, generated in fibrin after plasmic digestion. Exons 10 through 14 encode the carboxy-ter-minal light chain of t-PA and harbor the catalytic centre of the molecule and represents the predominant "target site" for the fast-acting endothelial plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1).As a follow-up of this genetic approach to construct deletion mutants of t-PA, we also created substitution mutants of t-PA. Different mutants were constructed to substitute cDNA encoding thelight chain of t-PA by cDNA encoding the B-chain of urokinase (u-PA), in order to demonstrate that autonomous structural and functional domains of eitherone of the separate molecules are able toexert their intrinsic properties in a different context (C.J.M. de Vries et al., this volume). The possibilities and the limitations of this approach to study the structure and the function of t-PA and of other components of the fibrinolytic process will be outlined.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the effective ways to obtain new biologically active substances is the search for new strains of microorganisms - producers. The most active antagonists among microorganisms are actinobacteria: of the 10,000 known antibiotics produced by microorganisms, about 70% are of actinomycete origin. Microorganisms, including actinobacteria, are of interest as enzyme producers, in particular, for the biocontrol of phytopathogenic fungi, as plant protection preparations, as well as for the biodegradation of plant residues, as a reservoir of infection in the soil for agricultural plants, etc. The task of the research was to study the ability of strains of actinobacteria isolated from the biofilm of the “La Izvor” lake system to exhibit enzymatic activity, as well as to inhibit the growth of a number of phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi. The objects of research were representatives of 8 genera of actinobacteria isolated from the biofilm of the lake system "La Izvor", Chisinau. It was established that strain B 2.1 (genus Actinoplanes) has weak (+) amylase activity, medium (++) lipase and high (+++) catalase activity. Strain B 3.1 (genus Frankia) showed weak (+) catalase and moderate (++) amylase activity. In strain B 4.1 (genus Geodermatophilus) a weak (+) catalase activity was noted, as in strain B 6.1 (genus Nocardia). The representative of the Micromonospora strain B 5.1 was characterized by medium (++) catalase and weak (+) amylase activity. Four strains are representatives of the river. Streptomyces showed weak (+) amylase activity, 2 strains of this genus (B 8.1 and B 8.4) also had weak (+) catalase activity, and only strain B 8.1 showed medium (++) lipase activity. Low antibacterial activity was observed in strain B 5.1 (genus Micromonospora) - the diameter of the growth inhibition zones of Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Bacillus subtilis, Clavibacter michiganensis, Erwinia carotovora - 9.0 - 14.0 mm. From the strains of genus Streptomyces, only strain B 8.3 had the ability to inhibit the growth of 5 phytopathogenic bacteria with a zone diameter of 12.0-16.0 mm. It was found the ability to inhibit the growth of the phytopathogen Alternaria alternata by the strains B 2.1, B 4.1, B 8.3, and B 8.4 (zone diameter - 15.0 - 20.0 mm). The growth of Fusarium solani was retarded by 6 strains (zones from 10.0 to 20.0 mm); Fusarium oxysporum - by 2 strains (zones 12.0-14.0 mm); and Aspergillus niger – by 4 strains (zones 12.0 - 16.0 mm). Thus, the conducted studies have shown that new strains of actinobacteria isolated from the biofilm of the “La Izvor” lake system, Chisinau, which have shown amylase, catalase, and lipase activity, as well as having the ability to inhibit the growth of a number of phytopathogens, are of particular interest and can replenish the National Collection of Non Pathogenic Microorganisms.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract (sommario):
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical and pathological characteristics, performed treatments, and clinical outcomes in patients diagnosed with BC treated at “Sistema Único de Saúde” (Brazilian Health System) in a city in the south of Brazil. Methodology: Observational, retrospective, descriptive, and cross-sectional epidemiological study through review of medical records of patients aged £40 years with BC treated at the Mastology Department of two public hospitals in Caxias do Sul city. Results: From a pool of 136 patients analyzed, most diagnoses (86.8%) were performed by self-examination, and the median time between the onset of symptoms and the search for specialized care was 2.1 months. Most tumors (52.9%) were diagnosed in advanced stages (stages IIB, III, and IV), and the most common subtype was luminal B (26.3%), followed by triple-negative (23%). Patients with triple-negative BC had a 3.8 times greater risk of disease progression when compared with luminal A subtype (p=0.042) (HR 3.8 (1.1–3.4)). Regarding surgical treatment, 55.2% underwent a mastectomy, and among these patients, 97% received breast reconstruction. During this period, 11 (8%) patients had locoregional recurrence, 38 (28%) patients had disease progression, and 19 (14%) patients died. The estimated 5-year disease-free survival was 64.2%, and the estimated 5-year overall survival was 83%. Patients younger than 30 years had a 2.5 times greater risk of death from BC (p=0.048) (HR 2.5 (1.01–6.16)). Conclusion: It is essential to know the social, clinical, and pathological profiles of young patients with BC to optimize diagnoses and treatments in young patients by health care teams.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Information about the history of algological research on the coast of the Barents and the White Seas from the 19th century to the present day is presented. The first description of the algae of the Murman coast was carried out by Elena Stepanovna Zinova, who is the author of the book "Algae of Murman" (in two volumes), published in 1912. A great contribution to the systematics of algae in the northern seas was made by Anna Dmitrievna Zinova, the author of many works on the biogeography of algae, the macrophyte-algae identification guides. Currently, 190 species of macrophyte algae have been described in the Barents Sea. They are represented by: red (Rhodophyta division – 82 species), brown (Phaeophyceae class of Ochrophyta division – 72 species) and green (Chlorophyta division - 36 species) algae. The species composition of algae of the Murmansk coast is the most diverse (167 species). The presence of 241,130 tons of kelp in the Barents Sea has been shown, including 200,000 tons in the Murmansk coast, and 50,000 tons of fucus algae. The development of algae research on the Murmansk coast was facilitated by the organization of the Murmansk Biological Station of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the coast of Zelenetskaya Bay in the settlement of Dal'niye Zelentsy (1935). Currently, it exists as a seasonal biostation of the MMBI RAS. As a result of long-term studies of macrophytes of the Barents Sea, the following have been determined: 1) the optimal photoperiod (16 : 8 – "light-dark") for the growth of most algae, as well as its compensatory role in regulating the growth of macrophytes; 2) the negative effect of ultraviolet B on the development of algae; 3) the optimal temperature for growth and mechanisms of cold resistance of macroalgae; 4) the influence of hydrostatic pressure on the vertical distribution of macrophytobenthos in the sublittoral; 5) the significance of the intensity of water movement, of the type of substrate and of salinity for the reproduction, the growth and the macrophyte-algae distribution; 6) the range of tolerance to the effects of oil and diesel fuel (DF) in macroalgae; 7) the plantation-biofilter technology for cleaning coastal water areas from oil products, the symbiotic association for macrophyte-algae and hydrocarbon-oxidising bacteria.

When the documentary bases are photographs it is possible to carefully model the recorded elements using photogrammetry techniques based on 3D primitives, so that by means of an immersive navigation limited to certain points of view, an appearance of acceptable tridimensionality is obtained, where only isolated images of dispersed frames are available. The virtual recreation can be completed increasing its realistic appearance through its edition with animations of objects (for example, carriages) and characters, texts, musical setting, etc. The results can be presented in formats such as video or navigation through virtual reality helmets. From a selection of the first historical photographs of the Plaza de la Virgen, that we have obtained searching in several documentary sources, our multidisciplinary team is interested in a reliable, realistic and pleasant presentation of the urban environment of one of the most representative places in the city of Valencia, whose spatial configuration has changed significantly over the years. Abstract (sommario):
On May l, 1942 a series of towing tests were made off New London to determine how satisfactory a small hand operated winch would be. The boat was an 83 ft. Coast Guard patrol boat with the end of the boom about 3 feet outboard and 15 feet forward of the stern. Towing tests were made at 8, 12, and 18 knots. At 18 knots two methods were tried: A. Those where the BT was dropped from the end of the boom in the usual manner. B. Those where the BT was dropped from the bow of the boat. This method gave a considerably greater depth of water for the same amount of wire out than the former method. In a longer boat where the BT can be carried 100 to 150 ft. ahead of the boom this additional depth may amount to 100 feet.
