Abstract (sommario):

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää valkuaislisän merkitystä maitorotuisten sonnien kokoviljasäilö-rehuruokinnalla. Koe-eläimet (36 kpl maitorotuisia sonneja) olivat ruokintakokeen alkaessa keskimäärin 217 vuorokauden ikäisiä. Sonnit jaettiin kokeen alussa elopainon ja rodun perusteella yhdeksään neljän eläimen blokkiin, joista ne edelleen arvottiin neljälle koeruokinnalle. Ryhmän 1 sonnit saivat vapaasti seosrehua, jossa oli kokoviljasäilörehua (60 % kuiva-aineesta) ja litistettyä ohraa (40 % kuiva-aineesta). Ryhmä ei saanut valkuaistäydennystä. Ryhmän 2 sonnit ruokittiin muutoin kuten ryhmä 1 mutta sonneilla oli valkuaistäydennyksenä rypsipohjainen Krono-Tiiviste 35. Tiivisteen annostelumäärä oli kokeen aikana keskimäärin 620 g/eläin/vrk. Tiiviste korvasi vastaavan määrän litistettyä ohraa sonnien päiväannoksessa. Ryhmän 3 sonnit ruokittiin muutoin kuten ryhmä 1 mutta sonneilla oli valkuaistäydennyksenä Krono-Tiiviste 45, jossa oli käytetty valkuaisena rypsin lisäksi rehu-ureaa. Tiivisteen annostelu toteutettiin siten, että raakavalkuaislisäys (g/pv) oli sama kuin ryhmän 2 eläimillä. Annostelumäärä oli tällöin 480 g/eläin/vrk keskimäärin kokeen aikana. Tiiviste korvasi vastaavan määrän litistettyä ohraa sonnien päiväannoksessa. Ryhmän 4 sonnit toimivat kontrollikäsittelynä, ja ne ruokittiin seosrehulla, jossa oli nurmisäilörehua (60 % kuiva-aineesta) ja litistettyä ohraa (40 % kuiva-aineesta). Ryhmä ei saanut valkuaistäydennystä. Kokeessa käytetty nurmisäilörehu oli ravitsemukselliselta koostumukseltaan hyvälaatuista. Se sisälsi muuntokelpoista energiaa 10,8 MJ/kg ka, raakavalkuaista 151 g/kg ka ja NDF-kuitua 581 g/kg ka. Kokoviljasäilörehun raakavalkuaispitoisuus oli 30 %, NDF-pitoisuus 17 % ja energia-arvo 10 % matalampi kuin nurmisäilörehulla. Sonnien kasvutulokset olivat nurmisäilörehuruokinnalla 6–8 % paremmat kuin kokoviljasäilö-rehuruokinnoilla. Kasvuerot olivat todennäköisesti suurimmaksi osaksi seurausta nurmisäilörehusonnien suuremmasta energian saannista, mikä selittyi kokoviljasäilörehun nurmisäilörehua heikommalla sulavuudella. Myös kokoviljasäilörehuruokinnoilla saavutettiin tässä tutkimuksessa hyvät kasvutulokset (nettokasvu keskimäärin 618 g/pv), mikä osoittaa kokoviljasäilörehun olevan varteenotettava vaihtoehto lihanautatilan rehuviljelyssä. Tutkimushypoteesin vastaisesti valkuaistäydennys ei parantanut sonnien kasvua kokoviljasäilörehuruokinnalla. Lisääntynyt raakavalkuaisen saanti ja dieetin korkeampi PVT-arvo valkuaistäydennystä saaneilla ruokinnoilla ei realisoitunut parempina kasvuvasteina, vaikka kokoviljasäilörehuruokinnan PVT-arvo oli ilman valkuaislisää nykyisiä suomalaisia lihanautojen ruokintasuosituksia alemmalla tasolla. Tulosten perusteella maitorotuisten sonnien valkuaisen saanti on riittävä, kun rehuannoksen PVT on yli -20 g/kg ka ja dieetin raakavalkuaispitoisuus yli 110 g/kg ka. Valkuaistäydennyksen laadulla (tavanomainen vs. ureapitoinen) ei ollut vaikutusta tuotantotuloksiin.

Abstract (sommario):

The aim of this work is to improve the heteroepitaxial growth process of 3C-SiC on Si substrates using Trichlorosilane (SiHCl3) as the silicon growth precursor. With this precursor it has been shown that it is possible to simultaneously increase the growth rate of the process and avoid the nucleation of silicon droplets in the gas phase. Growth experiments were conducted on three (3) Si substrate orientations in order to assess the impact of the Si substrate on the resulting 3C-SiC film. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis show the important role of the substrate orientation for the growth process. The different orientation of the substrate modifies the morphology of the 3C-SiC crystalline structure, mostly by changing the density of micro-twins and stacking faults inside the film.

Abstract (sommario):

In this study, a detailed structural characterization of epitaxial La0.6Sr0.4CoO3−δ (LSC) films grown in (100), (110), and (111) orientations was conducted. LSC is a model air electrode material in solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells and understanding the correlation of bulk structure and catalytic activity is essential for the design of future electrode materials. Thin films were grown on single crystals of the perovskite material La0.95Sr0.05Ga0.95Mg0.05O3−δ cut in three different directions. This enabled an examination of structural details at the atomic scale for a realistic material combination in solid oxide cells. The investigation involved the application of atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy to explore the distinct properties of these thin films. Interestingly, ordering phenomena in both cationic as well as anionic sublattices were found, despite the fact that the thin films were never at higher temperatures than 600 °C. Cationic ordering was found in spherical precipitates, whereas the ordering of oxygen vacancies led to the partial transition to brownmillerite in all three orientations. Our results indicate a very high oxygen vacancy concentration in all three thin films. Lattice strains in-plane and out-of-plane was measured, and its implications for the structural modifications are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):

Referring to the sketches, the alternative rotation of shaft (101) allows for absolute sealing between the left side and the right side of seal (1020). A device for total sealing around a shaft in alternating rotation is characterized in that a seal (1020), the main part of the device, called a torsion disc, constitutes the material insulator and is fixed on a shaft (101) by means of two spacers (610) and (620), where the spacer (610) is held in position by the bearing (710) and the spacer (620), which clamps the seal (1020), is held in position by the bearing (720). Along the shaft (101) on both sides of the seal (1020), O-rings (510) and (520) and possibly temperature insulating rings (410) and (420) can be arranged. On both sides of the seal (1020) there are possibly two pressure isolating stops (210) and (220), which slide in rotation on two other stops (110) and (120). The two bearing housings (228) and (8) are positioned relative to each other by means of shims (7) in order to clamp the seal (1020) at the bore and at the shaft. Connecting screws connect the bearing housings (228) and (8) and further connecting screws connect the housing (8) and the wall (22). Absolute sealing of a kinematic Stirling engine is now achievable. A French patent was taken out on August 27th, 2020.

Abstract (sommario):

The article describes the nature of public services and the problem of improving theirquality and accessibility for citizens. There have been studied the issues of the public authorities’services which comply the quality, timeliness and are primarily focused on the satisfaction ofcitizens in these services.Currently, the use of a citizen-centered approach in provision of services to measure the level ofsatisfaction of population with public services is one of the relevant research areas. Therefore, thework analyzes the issues of citizens’ public services satisfaction.The article describes the governmental institution’s activities in terms of the implementationof services regulated by the institution and legislative documents. The main findings show thatthe assessment public services’ quality can be held from the standpoint of the activities of bothstate institution and civil servants’ work. The paper identifies the problems that hold back theimprovement of public services’ quality. It also describes the main trends for quality improvementand public services’ accessibility at a current stage.

Abstract (sommario):

In this paper, the structural stability, adhesion and chemical bonding of the TiO2 (110)/TiAl (111) interface are investigated by the first-principles calculations. We predict the maximum adhesion energy of 1.91J/m2 of the TiO2/TiAl interface. We also calculated the Nb doped interface, and found that the doped Nb atom prefers to replace the Ti atom at the second layer of TiAl slab. The atomic geometry and density of states are analyzed. The results show that the effect of doped Nb is localized and insignificant on the TiO2 (110)/TiAl(111) interface.

Abstract (sommario):

We discuss the influence of the growth conditions (composition of the gaseous phase, growth duration, growth temperature) and wafer properties (orientation, miscut, thickness) on the residual strain of 3C-SiC films grown on silicon substrates. We show that the strain related effects are observed for both studied orientations however some of them (namely the creep effects) were up to now stated only for (100) oriented layers. We also point out the main difference in strain control between the (111) and (100) orientations.

Abstract (sommario):

A method for high quality epitaxial growth of Ge on Si (111) and Si (110) is investigated by reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition. Two step Ge epitaxy (low temperature Ge seed and high temperature main Ge growth) with several cycles of annealing by interrupting the Ge growth (cyclic annealing) is performed. In the case of Ge seed layer growth below 350 °C for (111) and 400 °C for (110) orientation, huge surface roughening due to too high dislocation density is observed after the following annealing step. For both crystal orientations, a high crystallinity Ge seed layer is realized by combination of 450 °C growth with 800 °C annealing. Once the high-quality Ge seed layer is deposited, high crystal quality Ge can be grown at 600 °C on the seed layer for both crystal orientations. For the 5 µm thick Ge layer deposited with the cyclic annealing process at 800 °C, a Si diffusion length of ~400 nm from the interface, RMS roughness below 0.5 nm and threading dislocation density of 5×106 cm-2 are achieved for both (111) and (110) substrates.

Abstract (sommario):

The aim of the present study was the continuous measurement of ruminal pH in grazing dairy cows to monitor the diets effects on ruminal pH value. A novel indwelling pH-measurement and data transmitting system was given to 6 multiparous cows orally. Ruminal pH was measured every 600 sec over a 40 d period. After barn feeding and changeover to pasture, the following 3 treatments (2 cows/treatment) were included in the measurement period: continuous grazing (G), continuous grazing plus 4 kg/d of hay fed twice daily (GH), and continuous grazing plus 4 kg/d of concentrate (GC). Ruminal pH decreased significantly (P<0.05) from6.58±0.15to pH6.19±0.19during feed changeover to pasture. Mean ruminal pH for G, GH, and GC was 6.36, 6.56, and 6.01. Mean 24-h minimum pH was 5.95, 6.20 and, 5.58. The time pH was below 6.3, 6.0, 5.8, and 5.5, for G it was 583, 91, 26, and 3 min/d, for GH it was 97, 12, 0, and 0 min/d and for GC it was 1126, 621, 347, and 101 min/d, respectively. Results were significantly influenced by the diet. The indwelling pH-measurement and data transmitting system is a very useful and proper tool for long-term measurement of ruminal pH in cows.

Abstract (sommario):

Defibrotide (DEF) is a polydeoxyribonucleotide fraction from bovine lung, possessing profibrinolytic and PGI2 stimulating properties. Male rabbits were fed for 4 months a standard laboratory diet (150 g/day) without (A) or with (B) DEF or a cholesterol (1%) supplemented diet without (C) or with (D) DEF (60 mg/kg x day) was administered orally (drinking water) and withdrawn 24-36 h prior to the acute experiments.DEF did not change the elevated serum cholesterol: 18 ± 2 (C) vs. 26 ± 5 (D) mM but significantly reduced the plaque formation in the aorta from 4.5 ± 0.3 (C) to 3.3 ± 0.2 (D) (subjective score). Collagen induced (0.6 pg/ml) thromboxane formation and ATP release was significantly reduced by DEF: 55+2 (C) vs. 42 ± 2 (D) ng/ml TXB2; 152 ± 11 (C) vs. 74±5 (D) AU ATP (platelet rTch plasma). DEF significantly increased the basal and bradykinin (Bk, 30 nM) stimulated PGI2 release from rabbit aorta preparations in Krebs buffer, while the PGI2 forming capacity (arachidonic acid, AA, 30 pg/ml) was unchanged Furthermore, the iloprost (30 nM) stimulated cAMP was significantly elevated by DEF in both control: 115 ± 10 (A) vs. 155 ± 18 (B) pmoles/1 and cholesterol-fed rabbits: 120 ± 14 (C) vs. 172 ± 9 (D). DEF, directly added to the platelets in vitro did not inhibit platelet activation up to 100 pg/ml.The data demonstrate a 2-3-fold stimulation of basal and hormone (Bk) induced PGI2 formation of control and sclerotic rabbit aorta after 4 months DEF treatment while the atherosclerosis per se does not significantly change these parameters. DEF treatment also significantly reduces platelet hyperreactivity at unchanged serum ch() lesterol. Both properties might be useful to prevent complication’s of atherosclerosis, such as myocardial infarction and stroke.

Abstract (sommario):

Although platelet inhibitory therapy improves arterial graft patency, surgeons are anxious that preoperative administration may increase operative bleeding. We investigated the effect of platelet inhibitors on blood loss during femoral artery replacement in dogs.Thirty greyhounds were randomised to receive placebo, a thromboxane antagonist GR32191 25mg (Glaxo Group Research) or aspirin 150mg (ASA) plus dipyridamole 50mg (DPM) twice daily starting 48 hours prior to implanting a 6cm length of 6mm PTFE in the femoral artery using standardised incision, mobilisation and anastomosis with 6.0 prolene. All bleeding was collected in swabs which were then thoroughly washed in 2L heparinised saline. The erythrocytes were haemolysed by adding potassium cyanide and the haemoglobin concentration measured in a Coulter Haemoglobinometer (Coulter Electronics). Blood loss was calculated by comparison to 1:500 dilution of the same animal’s venous blood. The bleeding time of the arterial anastomosis was also recorded.The mean (± sem) blood loss was similar in all three groups tending to be slightly less with GR32191 and ASA ± DPM at 135125 and 115±121 mis respectively, compared to 152±129 mis on placebo (NS). Anastomosis bleeding time appeared to be prolonged at 390±131 secs by the thromboxane antagonist compared to 291±40 with placebo and 224±136 with ASA and DPM, but this difference did not achieve statistical significance. There was a significant correlation (r=0.53) between blood loss and anastomotic bleeding time (p<0.001).This method of measuring blood loss is easily applicable to patients and does not demonstrate any important tendency to increased bleeding with preoperative platelet inhibitors.

Abstract The effects of bond coat species on the fracture behavior and lifetime performance were investigated in thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems through thermally graded mechanical fatigue (TGMF) tests. Two types of process, air-plasma spray (APS) and high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF), were employed to prepare the bond coats of about 300 μm thickness, and then the top coat of about 600 μm thickness was coated on the both bond coats by APS process. The TGMF tests with two tensile loads of 100 and 150 MPa were performed until 900 cycles at a surface temperature of 850 and 1100 °C for a dwell time of 10 min, and then the sample was cooled at the room temperature for 10 min at each cycle. When the tensile load applied in TGMF tests was 100 MPa at 850 °C, the TBC with APS bond coat showed delamination phenomena at the interface between the top and bond coats and small cracks on the surface after about 250 cycles, while the TBC with HVOF bond coat showed a long crack at interface between the top and bond coats without delamination phenomena until 900 cycles. As the tensile load in TGMF tests was increased to 150 MPa at 850 °C, delamination and/or cracks were created at the relatively low cycles, after about 130 and about 279 cycles for the TBCs of the APS and HVOF bond coats, respectively. When the tensile load applied in TGMF tests was 100 MPa and the temperature increase to 1100 °C, the TBC with APS and HVOD bond coats were delaminated after about 65 and about 110 cycles, respectively. These evidences indicate that the TBC with HVOF bond coat is more efficient in improving lifetime performance than that with APS bond coat in the thermal and mechanical environments.

Abstract (sommario):

One of the basic ideas for literary studies of the XXI century was M.M. Bakhtin's idea of dialogue, intercultural and intertextual, without which humanitarian activity is impossible. Yu. Kristeva, developing Bakhtin's teaching, formulated the concept of intertext and intertextuality, discovering them at the dawn of literature. Among Russian poets, O.E. Mandelstam stands out for his penchant for the intertextual method, who addressed other people's texts in different ways - from direct quoting to barely perceptible following someone else's motive - but consciously and even with a theoretical justification of the reception. Scientists have been studying this feature of the poet's creative manner for more than 60 years. The pioneer here can be calledK.F. Taranovsky, with whose light hand all cases of using other people's texts are still called subtexts in Mandelstam studies. M.L. Gasparov in Mandelstam studies distinguished “context”,i.e. “the system of connections of our text with other texts of our author”, and “subtext” as “the system of connections of our text with texts by other authors”. Studying the modern literary process, it can be noted that the poetry of Mandelstam himself often becomes the basis of intertextual connections or subtexts in the works of poets of the turn of the XX-XXI centuries, and the authors belong to different generations and work in different styles. From this point of view, the works of Sergei Gandlevsky, Igor (Gosha) Burenin, Boris Kutenkov are considered.

Abstract (sommario):

We carried out the research in 2020 under conditions of unstable moistening on ordinary chernozem of the Western Ciscaucasia (Korenovsky district, the Krasnodar region) to study the effect of different seeding rates (providing plant density of 40, 60, and 80 thousand pcs/ha) on the productivity of a new mid-ripening hybrid of sunflower Arneb of the breeding of V.S. Pustovoit AllRussian Research Institute of Oil Crops. We established that an increase in the seeding rate of seeds from 40 to 60 and 80 thousand pieces/ha led to a decrease in productivity – from 2.77 to 2.76 and 2.66 t/ha and oil yield – from 1.12 to 1.10 and 1.07 t/ha, respectively.

Experimental data on the solubility and speciation of uranium in hydrothermal solution is required to improve genetic models for the formation of ore deposits, yet very few data of this type have been published. Of particular interest is the oxidation state of the uranium in solution, as conventional wisdom suggests that U is dissolved in the oxidized U(VI) state and precipitated as reduced U(IV) minerals, yet recent experiments have shown ppm-level solubility for U(IV). This study investigated the mobility of reduced U(IV) and oxidized U(VI) in acidic (pH = 2), fluoride- bearing and alkaline (pH = 10), chloride-bearing solutions at 100-200°C and 1 to 15.8 bars (0.1-1.58 MPa). Preliminary data for the mobility of U(IV) in pH 2 fluids with 0.01 m F- show concentrations of 1.76 to 3.92 ppm U at 200°C, indicating that, contrary to common belief, the reduced U(IV) can be transported in solution. We have also conducted experiments on U(VI) solubility in pH 2 fluoride-bearing, and pH 10 chloride-bearing solutions. Uranium concentrations in the F- -bearing experiments ranged from 624 to 1570 ppm (avg. 825 ppm, n = 6) at 100°C, 670 to 1560 ppm (avg. 931 ppm, n = 4) at 150°C, and 3180 to 7550 ppm (avg. 5240, n = 9) at 200°C. In comparison, U concentrations in the Cl- -bearing runs range from 86.1 to 357 ppm (avg. 185 ppm, n = 15) at 200°C. Clearly, oxidized U(VI) is very readily mobilized in hydrothermal fluids. However, the measured concentrations of U(VI) are independent of those of F- or Cl-, suggesting the formation of U oxide or hydroxide species rather than U chlorides or fluorides. These experimental data will be verified and supplemented in future experiments, which will be used to derive the stoichiometry and thermodynamic constants for the dominant uranium species in hydrothermal solutions. The data from this study will then be integrated into a comprehensive genetic model for uranium ore-forming systems.

Key Message Accelerating the rollout of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine such that all LTC residents receive the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by January 31, 2021, would prevent a projected 600 COVID-19 cases and 115 deaths by March 31, 2021 when compared with the province’s current plan to vaccinate all LTC residents by February 15, 2021. Projections indicate that further acceleration of the rollout would prevent even more COVID-19 cases and deaths. If vaccine supply is limited, the early provision of first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to LTC home residents is likely to be more beneficial than the on-schedule provision of second doses to health care workers outside of LTC homes. All LTC residents should receive the second dose according to approved vaccination schedules.

With the advent of minimally invasive dentistry, occlusal veneers have been found to be a valid option to rehabilitate this type of cases and thus avoid greater wear of the dental structure with full coverage restorations. Sometimes when performing a tabletop it is not necessary to perform any preparation, thus preserving the maximum amount of dental tissue(3) (6) (15). Due to the masticatory load either in patients without parafunction where the maximum masticatory force is approximately 424 N for women and 630 N for men or in those who present parafunction where the maximum bite force can vary from 780 to 1120N(7), it is necessary that the occlusal veneers support that load which makes indispensable a compilation of studies investigating both fatigue and fracture resistance and the survival rate of occlusal veneers in different materials and thicknesses.

Abstract (sommario):

The Indiana Dunes (comprised of 15 geographic units (see Figure 1) which include Indiana Dunes National Park, Dunes State Park, and adjacent Shirley Heinze Land Trust properties) are remarkable in the Midwest and Great Lakes region for the vascular plant diversity, with an astounding 1,212 native plant species in an area of approximately 16,000 acres! This high plant diversity is the result of the interactions among postglacial migrations, the variety of soil substrates, moisture conditions, topography, successional gradients, ?re regimes, proximity to Lake Michigan, and light levels. This richness is all the more signi?cant given the past human alterations of the landscape resulting from logging; conversion to agriculture; construction of transportation corridors, industrial sites, and residential communities; ?re suppression; land abandonment; and exotic species invasions. Despite these impacts, multiple natural areas supporting native vegetation persist. Thus, each of the 15 units of the Indiana Dunes presents up to eight subunits varying in human disturbance and consequently in ?oristic richness. Of the most signi?cant units of the park in terms of number of native species, Cowles Dunes and the Dunes State Park stand out from all the other units, with 786 and 686 native species, respectively. The next highest ranked units for numbers of native species include Keiser (630), Furnessville (574), Miller Woods (551), and Hoosier Prairie (542). The unit with lowest plant richness is Heron Rookery (220), with increasing richness in progression from Calumet Prairie (320), Hobart Prairie Grove (368), to Pinhook Bog (380). Signi?cant natural areas, retaining native vegetation composition and structure, include Cowles Bog (Cowles Dunes Unit), Howes Prairie (Cowles Dunes), Dunes Nature Preserve (Dunes State Park), Dunes Prairie Nature Preserve (Dunes State Park), Pinhook Bog, Furnessville Woods (Furnessville), Miller Woods, Inland Marsh, and Mnoke Prairie (Bailly). Wilhelm (1990) recorded a total of 1,131 native plant species for the ?ora of the Indiana Dunes. This was similar to the 1,132 species recorded by the National Park Service (2014) for the Indiana Dunes. Based on the nomenclature of Swink and Wilhelm (1994), Indiana Dunes National Park has 1,206 native plant species. If we include native varieties and hybrids, the total increases to 1,244 taxa. Based on the nomenclature used for this report?the Flora of North America (FNA 2022), and the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS 2022)?Indiana Dunes National Park houses 1,206 native vascular plant species. As of this writing (2020), the Indiana Dunes is home to 37% of the species of conservation concern in Indiana (241 out of 624 Indiana-listed species): state extirpated = 10 species, state endangered = 75, and state threatened = 100. Thus, 4% of the state-listed species in the Indiana Dunes are extirpated, 31% endangered, and 41% threatened. Watch list and rare categories have been eliminated. Twenty-nine species once documented from the Indiana Dunes may be extirpated because they have not been seen since 2001. Eleven have not been seen since 1930 and 15 since 1978. If we exclude these species, then there would be a total of 1,183 species native to the Indiana Dunes. Many of these are cryptic in their life history or diminutive, and thus are di?cult to ?nd. Looking at the growth form of native plants, <1% (nine species) are clubmosses, 3% (37) are ferns, 8% (297) are grasses and sedges, 56% (682) are forbs or herbs, 1% (16) are herbaceous vines, <1% (7) are subshrubs (woody plants of herbaceous stature), 5% (60) are shrubs, 1% (11) are lianas (woody vines), and 8% (93) are trees. Of the 332 exotic species (species introduced from outside North America), 65% (219 species) are forbs such as garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), 15% (50 species) are graminoids such as phragmites (Phragmites australis ssp. australis), 2% (seven species) are vines such as ?eld bindweed (Convulvulus arvensis), <1% (two species) are subshrubs such as Japanese pachysandra (Pachysandra terminalis), 8% (28 species) are shrubs such as Asian bush honeysuckle (Lonicera spp.), 1% (three species) are lianas such as oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus), and 8% (23 species) are trees such as tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissimus). Of the 85 adventive species, native species that have invaded from elsewhere in North America, 14% (11 species) are graminoids such as broom sedge (Andropogon virginicus), 57% (48 species) are forbs such as fall phlox (Phlox paniculata), 5% (six species) are shrubs such as Carolina allspice (Calycanthus floridus), 3% (two species) are subshrubs such as holly leaved barberry (Berberis repens), 1% (one species) is a liana (trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans), 3% two species) are herbaceous vines such as tall morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea), and 17% (15 species) are trees such as American holly (Ilex opaca). A total of 436 species were found to be ?special? based on political rankings (federal and state-listed threatened and endangered species), species with charismatic ?owers, and those that are locally rare.
