Abstract (sommario):
Neonatal mortality statistics are frequently reported in 100-g increments of birth weight. We tabulated our mortality statistics using two methods of incrementation: 500 to 599 g, 600 to 699 g, 700 to 799 g, etc. (method A) and 501 to 600 g, 601 to 700 g, 701 to 800 g, etc (method B). In each 100-g weight group, the mortality was less using method B. The average reduction in mortality using method B was 4.1%. Use of the two different methods creates difficulty in making meaningful comparisons of various published reports. We recommend that all future studies use method A, as that method is more consistent with previous recommendations of the World Health Organization.

Abstract (sommario):
According to the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), it is possible to quantify level of service for rural highways using a basic parameter: percent time delay. Since this variable cannot be measured, it is proposed in the HCM that the percentage of delayed vehicles (% DV) be used as a surrogate measure. The manual gives no means of predicting or estimating % DV other than a curve relating total % DV to total hourly volume. However, it is worth noting that the methodology proposed in the manual does not use this curve. In any case, there has been to this date no proposal as to the estimation of % DV by traffic direction. The results of an attempt to estimate % DV by direction through multiple correlations are presented. The data were gathered on four highways in the province of Madrid, Spain (M-111, M-501, M-600, and M-607). Measurements were carried out in 3-h periods on plain or slightly sloping ground during daily or weekly peak periods. The average daily traffic and rate of heavy vehicles in 1991 were, sorted chronologically, 9,500 and 6.4 percent for M-607; 9,800 and 5.1 percent for M-600; 8,100 and 8.6 percent for M-111; and 14,400 and 5.0 percent for M-501. Several multiple correlations are offered, and one is chosen that has an accuracy of 0.7964, expressed through the coefficient r2 (the explained variation). The model is % DV (Direction 1) = A * (VDirection1) + B * (VDirection2) + C, with the following numerical values: % DV = 0.0443 * V1 + 0.0096 * V2 + 25.5411.

Abstract (sommario):
Eggs, larvae, pupa and adults of date moth Ephestia cautella were exposed to three levels ofmicrowave power 600, 800 and 1000 W at different exposure time (0,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20 and 20second). The results showed that microwave had high ability to kill different stages of fig moth. Theeffect increased by increasing of microwaves power and exposure time. The percentage of eggmortality was %100 at 600 and 800 W, and exposure time. Similarly, egg mortality was alsoincreased at 1000 W in less than 12 sec. The highest motility of larvae was %90 at 600 W and%96.67 at 800 W, when the exposure time was 10 sec., while, the mortality was %100 at 1000 W and18 sec. male and female pupal mortality rates was %100 at 800 W, when the exposure times were 20and 18 sec., respectively. The ranges of lethal time of %50 and %95 ( LT 50 , LT 95 ) at 600-1000 Wwere 501-9.9 and 15.7 – 34.2 , 3.0-7.5 and 9.0-50.0and 3.2-4.8 and 7.9-39.1 for egg , larvae andpupae, respectively. However, the results showed that all adult treatments significantly affected ageaverage and emergence of adult male and female. The age of emerged males and females did notexceeded 4.267 and 5.267 days respectively, at 600 W and 6 sec. exposure. While, adult emergencestopped at 800 W and 14 and 16 sec. for male and female pupae respectively. The results of thisinvestigation indicated the affectivity of using microwaves technique and further research efforts isneeded before the feasibility microwave technique can be evaluated as alternative in stored dateschemical method using Methyl Bromide.

Abstract (sommario):
Cell migration is involved in various physiological and pathogenic events, and the complex underlying molecular mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. The simple eukaryote Dictyostelium discoideum displays chemotactic locomotion in stages of its life cycle. By characterizing a Dictyostelium mutant defective in chemotactic responses, we identified a novel actin-binding protein serving to modulate cell migration and named it actin-binding protein G (AbpG); this 971–amino acid (aa) protein contains an N-terminal type 2 calponin homology (CH2) domain followed by two large coiled-coil regions. In chemoattractant gradients, abpG− cells display normal directional persistence but migrate significantly more slowly than wild-type cells; expressing Flag-AbpG in mutant cells eliminates the motility defect. AbpG is enriched in cortical/lamellipodial regions and colocalizes well with F-actin; aa 401–600 and aa 501–550 fragments of AbpG show the same distribution as full-length AbpG. The aa 501–550 region of AbpG, which is essential for AbpG to localize to lamellipodia and to rescue the phenotype of abpG− cells, is sufficient for binding to F-actin and represents a novel actin-binding protein domain. Compared with wild-type cells, abpG− cells have significantly higher F-actin levels. Collectively our results suggest that AbpG may participate in modulating actin dynamics to optimize cell locomotion.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT The role of the surface (S)-layer proteins of Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus has been investigated using an ovine model of abortion. Wild-type strain 23D induced abortion in up to 90% of pregnant ewes challenged subcutaneously. Isolates recovered from both dams and fetuses expressed S-layer proteins with variable molecular masses. The spontaneous S-layer-negative variant, strain 23B, neither colonized nor caused abortions in pregnant ewes. A series of isogenic sapA and recA mutants, derived from 23D, also were investigated in this model. A mutant (501 [sapA recA +]) caused abortion in one of five challenged animals and was recovered from the placenta of a second animal. Another mutant (502 [sapA recA]) with no S-layer protein expression caused no colonization or abortions in challenged animals but caused abortion when administered intraplacentally. Mutants 600(2) and 600(4), both recA, had fixed expression of 97- and 127-kDa S-layer proteins, respectively. Two of the six animals challenged with mutant 600(4) were colonized, but there were no abortions. As expected, all five strains recovered expressed a 127-kDa S-layer protein. In contrast, mutant 600(2) was recovered from the placentas of all five challenged animals and caused abortion in two. Unexpectedly, one of the 16 isolates expressed a 127-kDa rather than a 97-kDa S-layer protein. Thus, these studies indicate that S-layer proteins appear essential for colonization and/or translocation to the placenta but are not required to mediate fetal injury and that S-layer variation may occur in a recA strain.

Abstract (sommario):
The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of 15 clones of the IAC 500 series of Hevea brasiliensis, developed at Instituto Agronômico (IAC), over a 12-year period, in the northwest region of São Paulo State, Brazil. The 15 new clones evaluated are primary clones obtained from selected ortets within half-sib progenies. The clone RRIM 600, of Malaysian origin, was used as the control. Dry rubber yield performance over a four-year period, mean girth at the tenth year, girth increment before and during tapping, thermal properties of the natural rubber produced and other characters of the laticiferous system were evaluated. Forty percent of the clones were superior in comparison to the control for yield. Clone IAC 500 recorded the highest yield (66.81 g per tree per tapping) over four years of tapping, followed by IAC 502 (62.37 g per tree per tapping), whereas the control recorded 48.71 g per tree per tapping. All selected clones were vigorous in growth. The natural rubber from this IAC clones showed thermal stability up to 300ºC. No differences were observed in the thermal behavior of rubber among the IAC series and the RRIM 600 clones. The clones IAC 500, IAC 501, IAC 502, IAC 503 and IAC 506 are the more promising for small-scale plantations, due to growth and yield potential.

Abstract (sommario):
The TMR (total mixed ration) technology is one of the most sufficient feeding methods on the dairy farms. From a quality assurance and technological point of view, regular TMR testing is of paramount importance to reduce the risk and extent of milk production losses and animal health problems. The goal was to find out how popular the TMR monitoring in Hungary is, and find out, how much it may cost for a dairy farm in a year. In the course of our investigations, we assessed the economic indicators of TMR samples received by the NIR Forage Laboratory of Livestock Performance Testing Ltd. between 2013 and 2021, especially the distribution and size of costs per farm and per cow. Our aim was to be able to draw conclusions about the application rates, the total and relative costs of TMR analyses according to the farm size. The proportion of farms requesting TMR examinations was higher for farms with a larger number of animals (501-1000 cows inspected). Within the category, the highest TMR sample submission rate was found for the farms with 501-600 and 801-1000 cows inspected. The average monthly total TMR laboratory cost per site was extremely low in the period of 2013-2021 (HUF 3,000-10,000 /month/farm) compared to the risk and potential loss. The relative TMR cost of farms with more than 701 cows inspected was rather low (HUF 6-9 / inspected cow / month) in terms of screening for technological errors, risk of loss and quality assurance. This indicates that there is great potential for quality assurance in TMR studies at sites and that this potential is not currently being exploited.

Abstract (sommario):
Soil acidification has emerged as a critical limiting factor for the sustainable development of the tea industry. In this article, a comprehensive review of 63 original research articles focusing on the impact of amendments on the pH in tea plantations soil was conducted. Through meta-analysis, the effect of applying soil amendments to increase the pH of tea plantation soil and its influencing factors were investigated. The results revealed that lime had a significant impact, increasing the pH by 18% in tea plantation soil, while rapeseed cake had a minimal (2%) effect. It was observed that as the quantity of amendments and pH levels increased, so did their impact on the pH of tea plantation soil. Subgroup analysis within biochar showed varying effects, depending on soil pH, with an 11% increase in acidic soil. Among these amendments, biochar produced at pyrolysis temperature ranging from 501–600 °C and derived from animal waste demonstrated significant effect on increasing soil pH in tea plantations by 9% and 12%, respectively. This study offers valuable insights into improving and ensuring the health and sustainability of tea plantations.

Abstract (sommario):
The welding of metals is one of the most important processes that require high control for obtaining a good quality of weldments. The joining of dissimilar metals is a more complex operation compared to the joining of similar metals due to the differences in physical metallurgical and mechanical properties. In this article, austenitic stainless steel AISI 303 stud was welded to low carbon steel AISI 1008 plate using arc stud welding (ASW) process. An experimental procedure was applied to estimate the effect of welding parameters namely welding current and welding time on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joint. The optical microscope V83MC50 was used to show microstructure properties while both the micro-Vickers Hardness and tensile test were adopted to evaluate the mechanical properties. The results revealed that the presence of carbides at the fusion zone FZ towards AISI 303 leads to the maximum value of hardness (501) HV. The best welding parameters were 600 AMP 0.25 second at which joint strength of 515 MPa was recorded. Welding time was the most important parameter in the ASW process followed by welding current, proper selection of welding time, and current welding produces good joint quality

Abstract (sommario):
The effects of the size of a designed fire on the ventilation system of an adjacent zone is estimated in this study based on a visibility requirement of 5 m in a non-fire zone at 600 s after ignition. To verify the adequacy of the fire dynamics simulator (FDS) input file, smoke movement and ceiling temperature under the hot smoke test conditions of AS4391-1999 were compared with those from the FDS results. The average temperatures measured at 12 locations were within the range of ± 2σ, with the exception of one point, and predicted smoke movement adequately. The size of the designed fire was analyzed in terms of the air volume conditions of the NFSC 501 for a heat release rate (HRR) of 1650 kW (air supply and exhaust at 45,000 cubic meters per hour (CMH)) as well as air volume conditions for a HRR of 1100 kW (air supply at 35,606 CMH and exhaust at 32,506 CMH). It was determined that one of the major factors influencing the required safety egress time was the mixture of downdraft airflow from the diffusers and smoke layer crossing the ventilation boundary.

Abstract (sommario):
Pulmonary microhemodynamic parameters were directly measured along with systemic pressures and cardiac output in the ventilated rabbit lung. Subpleural arterioles and venules ranging from 10 to 35 microns luminal diameter were investigated under zone 2 conditions, i.e., during inspiratory plateau at an airway pressure of 8 mmHg. Mean arteriolar and venular diameters (24.6 +/- 3.3 and 21.9 +/- 3.6 microns, respectively), mean red blood cell (RBC) fluxes (1,549 +/- 501 and 1,257 +/- 600 cells/s), and mean RBC velocities (0.79 +/- 0.21 and 0.82 +/- 0.21 mm/s) were measured using a fluorescence video-microscopic technique. Calculated microhematocrit (Hct mu) was below systemic values (Hctsys) (Hct mu/Hctsys: arterioles, 0.75 +/- 0.12; venules, 0.67 +/- 0.08). The mean capillary transit time of RBC was 0.47 +/- 0.16 s over a mean arteriovenous distance of 173 +/- 70 m. Significant correlations were demonstrated between microhemodynamic parameters. A correlation among cardiac output, pulmonary arterial pressure, and RBC velocity demonstrates the connection between macro- and microhemodynamics in the rabbit lung. In conclusion, the present model is the first one enabling the measurements of the principal circulatory determinants for gas exchange, i.e., microvascular blood flow, Hct mu, and capillary transit time of RBCs in the ventilated rabbit lung under simultaneous macrocirculatory control.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: In the Phase III MONALEESA (ML)-2, -3 and -7 trials, a 600 mg dose of ribociclib (RIB) demonstrated significant overall survival benefit in patients (pts) with HR+/HER2− advanced breast cancer (ABC) but was associated with QTcF (>480 ms, 3%-7%) and neutropenia (G3/4, 57%-64%) adverse events (AEs) which were managed by dose reductions. The Phase II AMALEE study was performed as a postmarketing commitment to assess whether reducing the starting dose of RIB from the recommended dose (3 wk on, 1 wk off) of 600 mg/day to 400 mg/day decreases QTcF prolongation without compromising the efficacy of first-line RIB in pts with HR+/HER2− ABC. Here, we present efficacy and safety results from the primary analysis of AMALEE. Methods: AMALEE is a randomized Phase II open-label study including pre- and postmenopausal pts with HR+/HER2− ABC with no prior therapy for ABC. Pts received RIB 400 mg + nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor (NSAI) or RIB 600 mg + NSAI. The primary endpoint is to determine whether overall response rate (ORR) in the 400 mg arm is noninferior to the 600 mg arm. The key secondary endpoint is QTcF prolongation at cycle 1, day 15 (C1D15) 2 hours post dose. Additional endpoints included safety, progression-free survival (PFS), duration of response (DOR), time to response (TTR), and pharmacokinetics. Results: A total of 376 pts were randomized 1:1 to receive RIB at either 400 mg or 600 mg doses. Baseline (BL) characteristics and prior antineoplastic therapy were balanced across treatment (tx) arms. At the time of the data cutoff (June 11, 2021), median follow-up was 14.9 mo (min, 6.1; max, 23.8), and all pts had been treated for ≥6 months from randomization or had discontinued study tx. ORR for RIB was 41.5% (95% CI, 34.4-48.7) with 400 mg vs 45.3% (95% CI, 38.1-52.6) with 600 mg (ORR ratio for RIB 400 mg vs 600 mg, 0.921 [90% CI, 0.757-1.121]). The lower 90% CI boundary did not meet the prespecified noninferiority (NI) margin of 0.814. Results for ORR by subgroups were consistent with the overall analysis set. RIB plasma exposure was lower at 400 mg than 600 mg; the geometric mean Cmax and AUC0-24h at C1D15 were approximately 28% and 43% lower in the 400 mg than the 600 mg arm (Cmax 1080 vs 1500 ng/mL and AUC0-24h 16400 vs 28600 ng × h/mL). This study met the key secondary endpoint, change in QTcF at C1D15 in the RIB 400 mg group with a 90% CI upper boundary of < 20 ms. Mean change in QTcF from BL to C1D15 2 hours post dose was lower in the 400 mg (12.5 ms, 90% CI, 10.9-14.1) than the 600 mg arm (19.7 ms, 90% CI, 17.4-22.0). QTcF ≥501 ms occurred in 1.6% of pts in the 400 mg arm vs 0.5% in the 600 mg arm. Rates of G3/4 neutropenia were lower in the 400 mg (31.4%) than the 600 mg arm (46.3%). Other safety results were consistent with those previously reported for RIB in the ML trials. Median duration of exposure to RIB was 8.0 mo (min, 0.1; max, 23.7) in the 400 mg arm vs 8.8 mo (min, 0.5; max, 20.8) in the 600 mg arm. Dose reductions of RIB were more frequent in the 600 mg group with 30.5% vs 13.8% of pts requiring 1 dose reduction in the 600 mg and 400 mg groups, respectively. Dose reductions were primarily attributable to AEs, with neutropenia being the most frequently reported AE requiring a dose modification. Rates of discontinuation due to AEs were similar in the 400 mg vs 600 mg arms (8.5% vs 9.6%). PFS, DOR, and TTR data are currently immature. Conclusions: RIB at the 400 mg dose shows a better safety profile vs 600 mg in terms of key AEs that are RIB concentration dependent (neutropenia and QTcF prolongation). ORR was 3.8% lower with 400 mg than 600 mg. The lower 90% CI boundary of the ORR ratio did not meet the NI margin, thus this study was unable to demonstrate statistical NI of the 400 mg vs 600 mg dose of RIB using ORR as the endpoint. Updated results with additional follow-up and the clinically relevant endpoint PFS will be presented at the congress. Abstract (sommario):
Tutkimuksessa haluttiin selvittää, millaisilla palko- ja heinäkasvilajien yhdistelmillä voitaisiin päästä korkeisiin ja laadukkaisiin kuiva-ainesatoihin Pohjois-Suomen olosuhteissa. Koe toteutettiin satunnaistettujen lohkojen osaruutukokeena MTT Ruukin toimipisteessä vuosina 2003–2005. Vuonna 2005 kaikki kasvilajit niitettiin kolme kertaa. Heinäkasvilaji ei vaikuttanut tilastollisesti merkitsevästi kuiva-aineen kokonaissatoon (kg ka/ha), muuntokelpoisen energian satoon (GJ/ha) eikä raakavalkuaissatoon (kg/ha) kumpanakaan koe-vuonna.

Abstract (sommario):
This study presents the residual stress analysis for the twist extrusion (TE) process after the experiment and numerical simulation and the analysis of the crystallographic texture changes and changes in hardness before and after the TE process for an RSA-501 aluminium alloy (Al; Mg5%; Mn1.5%; Sc0.8%; Zr0.4%).Crystallographic textures were obtained with the PANAlytical Empyrean X-ray diffractometer. The stresses were measured by applying the X-ray method with the use of using the PROTO iXRD diffractometer. The use of severe plastic deformation processes in the mass of the material leads to a significant change difference in the stress distribution in the workpiece and a change in texture compared to the reference material. The stress distribution in the sample cross-section and stress values varied and depended on the stage of the twisting process to which the surface was subjected. The highest stress (about 600 MPa) appears at the peaks of the front surface when exiting the twist area die TE. Higher stress values at the edges of the specimen are caused by friction (deformation) of the material against the die surface. The TE process strengthened the highest crystallographic texture background level was 49%.The conducted tests and the obtained results allow the determination of the process parameters and critical areas of the sample by carrying out a numerical simulation.Microhardness increases due to the TE process and the largest values were observed at the edges. This phenomenon is confirmed by the numerical simulation results presented in this paper.

Abstract (sommario):
Measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) is basic investigation in a general ophthalmic workup. We attempt to determine the agreement in the measurement of IOP obtained by Goldman applanation tonometer, Perkin’s applanation tonometer, Non-contact tonometer in patients attending general ophthalmology OPD in a tertiary care centre in South India and its use in a community ophthalmology settingA cross-sectional analytical study in which IOP was measured in patients using the three tonometers. Central corneal thickness (CCT) was measured using Ultrasonic pachymetry. Bland Altman analysis was done to evaluate the agreement between instruments. 800 eyes of 400 patients were included in the study. By Bland Altman method, Perkin’s tonometer was found to have better correlation to IOP obtained by Goldman applanation tonometer. Perkin’s tonometer was found to be most accurate when CCT was in the range of 501–550 microns and noncontact tonometer was found to be least accurate when CCT was greater than 600 microns. On comparing correlation at different age groups, both the methods had better correlation at <40 years age group. Both the tonometers showed a significant correlation with the gold standard technique GAT over a range of IOP and CCT with the Perkin’s tonometer better than the NCT. This study proves that Perkin’s tonometer can be recommended as a reliable screening tool in community outreach ophthalmology services. The twin advantages of portability and availability make the Perkin’s tonometer a popular choice among ophthalmology trainees and optometrists in a developing country like India.

Abstract (sommario):
We had successfully synthesized green-emitting phosphors based on Li2BaSiO4 material activated by bivalent europium ions (Eu[Formula: see text]) using a solid-state reaction method in a reducing gas environment and investigated their luminescence properties. The Li2BaSiO4:0.003Eu[Formula: see text] (LSB-Eu) phosphors were synthesized at 850[Formula: see text]C for 1 h, and the reduction gas was removed at 500[Formula: see text]C, 600[Formula: see text]C, 700[Formula: see text]C and 800[Formula: see text]C, respectively. XRD pattern showed that the Li2BaSiO4, Ba2SiO4 and Li4SiO4 phases were observed in the synthesized Li2BaSiO4 composition. As the reduction gas was removed at 800[Formula: see text]C, the LSB-Eu phosphor emitted a weak red light rather than a green light. Two weak emission peaks were found at about 588 nm and 613 nm corresponding to [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] transitions. As temperature to remove the reduction gas was lower than 800[Formula: see text]C, the emission spectra of LSB-Eu phosphors reveled a broad peak centered at 501 nm, which emitted a green color. The intensity of photoluminescence excitation (PLE) photoluminescence emission (PL) spectra increased as the removing temperature was decreased from 700[Formula: see text]C to 500[Formula: see text]C and saturated at 500[Formula: see text]C. These results show that LSB-Eu can be a noteworthy candidate of green-emitting phosphor for the investigation of white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs).

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
<p><em>Poverty in Nigeria has been described as pervasive owing to the fact that the nation has witnessed a persistent increase in poverty level over the years. More so, there has been a renewed and growing concern about poverty and income inequality due to their negative implications for both economic growth and social peace. In Nigeria, the twin issues of poverty and inequitable income distribution present a paradox. This is because, though the country is rich in land, human and natural resources, yet 70 percent of Nigerians are still considered poor with low per capital income. More so, it has been argued that income inequality is a manifestation as well as strong cause of poverty. The study therefore analyses the empirical relationship between manifestation of income inequality and poverty prevalence among households in selected North Central States in Nigeria. This study employed survey method using structured questionnaire. A representative sample of 600 respondents was planned for the survey in order to have at least 462 households responding. However, the study has 501 household respondents representing 84 percent success rate. The result shows that 84 percent households believe that income inequality is a major determinant of poverty in Nigeria and 76 percent also agreed that poverty occur most in rural area than urban areas. It was found that a disproportionate share in income across divide would exacerbate poverty among rural dwellers particularly farmers, artisans, and traders. The study therefore recommends a deliberate policy of reducing income inequality so as to reduce the incidence of poverty especially among the rural dwellers.</em><em></em></p>

Abstract (sommario):
Gonzalez, Norberto C., Richard L. Clancy, Yoshihiro Moue, and Jean-Paul Richalet. Increasing maximal heart rate increases maximal O2 uptake in rats acclimatized to simulated altitude. J. Appl. Physiol. 84(1): 164–168, 1998.—Maximal exercise heart rate (HRmax) is reduced after acclimatization to hypobaric hypoxia. The low HRmax contributes to reduce maximal cardiac output (Q˙max) and may limit maximal O2 uptake (V˙o 2 max). The objective of these experiments was to test the hypothesis that the reduction inQ˙max after acclimatization to hypoxia, due, in part, to the low HRmax, limitsV˙o 2 max. If this hypothesis is correct, an increase inQ˙max would result in a proportionate increase inV˙o 2 max. Rats acclimatized to hypobaric hypoxia [inspired[Formula: see text]([Formula: see text]) = 69.8 ± 3 Torr for 3 wk] exercised on a treadmill in hypoxic ([Formula: see text] = 71.7 ± 1.1 Torr) or normoxic conditions ([Formula: see text] = 142.1 ± 1.1 Torr). Each rat ran twice: in one bout the rat was allowed to reach its spontaneous HRmax, which was 505 ± 7 and 501 ± 5 beats/min in hypoxic and normoxic exercise, respectively; in the other exercise bout, HRmax was increased by 20% to the preacclimatization value of 600 beats/min by atrial pacing. This resulted in an ∼10% increase inQ˙max, since the increase in HRmax was offset by a 10% decrease in stroke volume, probably due to shortening of diastolic filling time. The increase inQ˙max was accompanied by a proportionate increase in maximal rate of convective O2 delivery (Q˙max × arterial O2 content), maximal work rate, and V˙o 2 max in hypoxic and normoxic exercise. The data show that increasing HRmax to preacclimatization levels increasesV˙o 2 max, supporting the hypothesis that the low HRmax tends to limitV˙o 2 maxafter acclimatization to hypoxia.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background In the United States, CABP is the second most common cause of hospitalization and a leading cause of infectious death. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)/asthma or diabetes are at risk for CABP and associated mortality. Similarly, patients with underlying cardiac or liver disease are at risk for potential cardiac or liver toxicities, respectively, associated with CABP antimicrobials, and patients aged ≥65 years are at risk for both efficacy/safety concerns. We report pooled efficacy/safety outcomes in at-risk subgroups from the LEAP 1 and 2 phase 3 trials. Methods In LEAP 1, patients with CABP (PORT III–V) received IV LEF 150 mg q12h for 5–7 days or MOX 400mg q24h for 7 days, with optional IV-to-oral switch (600 mg LEF q12h or 400 mg MOX q24h). In LEAP 2, patients with CABP (PORT II–IV) received oral LEF 600 mg q12h for 5 days or MOX 400 mg q24h for 7 days. Both studies assessed early clinical response (ECR; 96 ± 24 hours after first dose) in the intent-to-treat (ITT; all randomized patients) population (FDA primary endpoint) and investigator assessment of clinical response (IACR) at test-of-cure (TOC; 5–10 days after last dose) in the modified ITT (≥1 study drug dose) and clinically evaluable (met predefined evaluability criteria) populations (EMA coprimary endpoints). Pooled analyses used a 10% noninferiority margin. Safety was assessed in all randomized and treated patients. Results 1289 ITT patients were randomized to LEF (n = 646) or MOX (n = 643); of whom, 297 (23.0%) were aged 65–74 years and 220 (17.1%) were ≥75 years; 232 patients (18.0%) had COPD/asthma and 168 (13.0%) had diabetes mellitus (DM). At baseline, 501 patients (38.9%) had history of hypertension, 73 (5.7%) had history of arrhythmia, and 263 (20.4%) had transaminitis. The figure shows efficacy by age and in COPD/asthma and DM patients. Treatment-emergent adverse events, electrocardiogram assessments, and laboratory results in patients at risk for cardiac and hepatic safety concerns are shown in Tables 1 and 2. Conclusion In pooled analyses of LEAP 1 and 2, LEF efficacy was high and similar to MOX in patients at risk of efficacy concerns and LEF showed a safety profile similar to that of MOX in patients at risk of safety concerns. LEF is a promising new option for IV/oral monotherapy of CABP in patients at risk of poor outcomes due to CABP or to antimicrobial therapy for CABP. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

Abstract (sommario):
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common types of cancers in South China and Southeast Asia. Clinical data has shown that early detection is essential for improving treatment effectiveness and survival rate. Unfortunately, because the early symptoms of NPC are rather minor and similar to that of diseases such as Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS), early detection is a challenge. This paper proposes using machine learning methods to detect NPC using routine medical test data, namely Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), k-Nearest-Neighbor (KNN) and Logistic Regression (LR). We collected a dataset containing 523 newly diagnosed NPC patients before treatment, 501 newly diagnosed CRS patients before treatment as well as 600 healthy controls. The routine medical test data including age, gender, blood test features, liver function test features, and urine sediment test features. For comparison, we also used data from Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) antibody tests, which is a specialized test not included among routine medical tests. In our first test, all four methods were tested on classifying NPC vs CRS vs controls; RF gives the best overall performance. Using only routine medical test data, it gives an accuracy of 83.1%, outperforming LR by 12%. In our second test, using only routine medical test data, when classifying NPC vs non-NPC (i.e. CRS or controls), RF achieves an accuracy of 88.2%. In our third test, when classifying NPC vs. controls, RF using only routine test data achieves an accuracy significantly better than RF using only EBV antibody data. Finally, in our last test, RF trained with NPC vs controls, using routine test data only, continued to perform well on an entirely separate dataset. This is a promising result because preliminary NPC detection using routine medical data is easy and inexpensive to implement. We believe this approach will play an important role in the detection and treatment of NPC in the future.

Abstract (sommario):
Studies done by researchers around the world show women are in entrepreneurship in major towns and rural areas of Africa. Financial institutions have developed various products to boost their entrepreneurial spirit together with government support programmes with an aim to avail credit and increase the success rate of women owned businesses. The study sought to determine the influence of capital on performance of small and medium enterprises owned by women entrepreneurs. The main variables under focus included; access to capital, working capital structure, capital affordability and government finance programs. The study will fill a research gap as there is no known study to have been done in Kwale county. The theoretical framework forming the basis of the study consisted of; resource-based theory, dynamic trade off theory and access to capital theory. A comprehensive literature review was given for each variable and their relationships highlighted. The study adopted a descriptive research design, a population of 2000 and a sample of 600 SME owners. Furthermore, the study used questionnaires for data collection that were hand delivered to respondents after validity and reliability through pilot testing techniques. Data collected was coded, sorted and analyzed by use of simple regression model with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences application. The study was conducted in line with ethical requirements by seeking permissions from the university and government institutions before commencement of the study. Data from 501 respondents was analysed representing 83.5% of the sample. The results indicated that access to capital, capital affordability, working capital structure and government finance programs had a positive influence on performance of women owned SMES. The study concluded that for women entrepreneurs to perform well in their business, efforts should put in place to ensure capital is made accessible, affordable while enlightening them on what alternatives sources of capital are available; whether from the government or private sector, for better working capital structure. Finally, the study recommended that studies should be conducted on influence of knowledge, skills and management styles on the performance of women owned SMES in Kwale County.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Hereditary thrombophilia and myeloproliferative disorders (MPD) are risk factors of VTE. The JAK2 V617F mutation may be found in polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET) and myelofibrosis. We report three women referred to our out-patient clinic for a thrombophilia screening. JAK2 mutation was studied using wild type FRET probes and subsequent analysis of the melting curve (James et al, Leukemia2006; 20: 350–353). Patient 1, 75 year-old (yo), had pulmonary embolism (PE) and proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) at 68. We detected heterozygous FV Leiden (FVL) and FII 20210A mutations. In 2005, she had internal jugular vein thrombosis after surgery (platelet count &gt; 600 G/L). ET was suspected in 2006. Patient 2, 44 yo, on oral contraception, had PE and proximal DVT at 33 after sclerotherapy, recurrent massive PE requiring emergency embolectomy and proximal DVT during pregnancy. Heterozygous FVL was detected in 1995 (platelet count was 432 G/L) and ET in 2000. Patient 3, 65 yo, with PV detected in 1995, had a proximal DVT one year later. Heterozygous FVL was detected. She is the only patient treated with hydroxyurea. Results of blood cell counts and JAK2 V617F/JAK2 WT ratios are shown in the table. Conclusion 1. JAK2 mutation was found in 3 patients with VTE, platelet count &gt;400 G/L and hereditary thrombophilia; 2. the risk of VTE related to JAK2 needs further investigation; 3. JAK2 V617F increased over time in 2 of 3 cases; 4. its early detection might improve the diagnosis and treatment of MPD and VTE. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The study was conducted to investigate effects of dietary inactivated probiotics on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and immune responses of weaned pigs. A total of 96 weaned pigs (initial BW = 6.95 ± 0.25 kg) were randomly assigned to 4 dietary treatments with increasing levels of inactive probiotics (4 pigs/replicate; 6 replicates/treatment; 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4%; CON, T1, T2, and T3) in a randomized complete block design (BW and sex as blocks). The inactivated probiotics used in this experiment was a commercial product (CJ CheilJedang Biotechnology Research Institute, Seoul, Korea) containing 1 x 106 CFU/g on stains of Lactobacillus rhamnosus. Pigs were fed respective dietary treatments for 4 weeks. During the last week of the experimental period, pigs were fed their respective dietary treatments containing 0.2% chromic oxide. Fecal samples were collected by rectal palpation daily for the last 3 days after the 4-day adjustment period during the last week of experiment. Blood was collected from randomly selected one pig each pen on d 1, 3, 7, and 14 after weaning. Measurements were growth performance, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD), TNF-α, TGF-β, CRP, and cortisol by ELISA. Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS. The inactivated probiotics increased ADG (471, 501, and 513 vs. 428 g/d; P &lt; 0.05) and G:F (0.65, 0.69, and 0.71 vs. 0.58 g/g; P &lt; 0.05) during overall experimental period compared with CON. The inactivated probiotics increased ATTD of GE (86.87, 87.29, and 88.53 vs. 85.25%; P &lt; 0.05) compared with CON. The inactivated probiotics decreased TNF-α (600, 542, and 523 vs. 849 pg/ml; P &lt; 0.05) and cortisol (5.58, 5.56, and 5.44 vs. 7.25 ng/ml; P &lt; 0.05) on d 7 compared with CON. In conclusion, addition of inactivated probiotics improved growth performance, and nutrient digestibility, and modified immune responses.

Abstract (sommario):
The Ross(–Delamerian) Orogeny significantly impacted the formation of the tectonic structure of the Pacific Gondwana margin during the early Paleozoic era. Northern Victoria Land (NVL) in Antarctica preserves the aspect of the Ross Orogeny that led to the union of the Wilson (WT)–Bowers (BT)–Robertson Bay Terrane. The aspect of the Ross Orogeny in the NVL is characterized by subduction of oceanic domains toward the continental margin (continental arc) and the accretion of the associated marine–continental substances from 530–480 Ma. In the Mountaineer Range in NVL, the Ross Orogeny strain zone is identified at the WT/BT boundary regions. In these areas, fold and thrust shear zones are observed and aspects of them can be seen at Mt. Murchison, the Descent Unit and the Black Spider Greenschist zone. The Dessent Unit corresponds to a tectonic slice sheared between the WT and BT. The metamorphic evolution phase of the Dessent Unit is summarized in the peak pressure (M1), peak temperature (M2) and retrograde (M3). The sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) zircon U–Pb ages of 514.6 ± 2.0 Ma and 499.2 ± 3.4 Ma obtained from the Dessent Unit amphibolite are comparable to the M1 and M2 stages, respectively. The Dessent Unit underwent intermediate pressure (P)/temperature (T)-type metamorphism characterized by 10.0–10.5 kbar/~600 °C (M1) and ~7 kbar/~700 °C (M2) followed by 4.0–4.5 kbar/~450 °C (M3). Mafic to intermediate magmatism (497–501 Ma) within the WT/BT boundary region may have given rise to the M2 stage of the Dessent Unit, and this magmatism is synchronous with the migmatization period of Mt. Murchison (498.3 ± 3.4 Ma). This indicates that a continuous process of fold-shearing–magmatic intrusion–partial melting, which is typically associated with a continental arc orogeny, occurred before and after c. 500 Ma in the Mountaineer Range. During the Ross Orogeny, the Dessent unit was initially subducted underneath the WT at depth (10.0–10.5 kbar, ~35 km) and then thrust into the shallow (~7 kbar, ~23 km), hot (≥700 °C) magmatic arc docking with the Mt. Murchison terrain, where migmatization prevailed.

Abstract (sommario):
e16235 Background: CVM-1118 is a potent anti-tumor new chemical entity with multiple mechanisms of action including induction of apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and inhibition of VM network formation. The Phase I trial in Asia determined an MTD of 600 mg daily (300 mg BID) with a favorable safety profile. The best response was stable disease with measurable tumor reduction in one patient with NET. We present preliminary results for this ongoing Phase IIa study. Methods: Eligible patients had advanced NETs (low/intermediate grade lung or WHO grade 1 or 2 gastrointestinal or pancreatic origin) which were refractory to standard of care therapy and progressed within 6 months prior to screening. Patients received oral CVM-1118 at 200 to 300 mg BID (400 to 600 mg daily) in 28-day cycles. Pharmacokinetics (PK) was assessed. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) and secondary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), duration of overall response (DoR), time-to-progression (TTP), and overall survival (OS). Planned enrollment is 33 evaluable patients. Results: As of February 10, 2023, 30 patients were enrolled, of which 21 evaluable patients (12 M/9 F; median age 61 y, range 37–82 y) were predominately grade 2 pNET (12/21, 57%) or GI NET (8/21, 38%). The majority (14/21, 67%) had disease progression after prior treatment with chemotherapy or small molecule inhibitor (median of 1 prior therapy). The duration of CVM-1118 treatment ranged from 1.4–34.6 mos (median 3.8 mos) with 4/21 (19%) patients remaining on treatment for more than 20 mos (range 22–34 mos). The median PFS was 6.9 mos (95% CI 3.3–10.3 mos), which exceeded the historical estimate for PFS of 4–6 mos (Raymond et al., 2011; Yao et al., 2016). The 8-mo and 12-mo PFS rates were 42% (95% CI 25–64%) and 29% (95% CI 14–50%), respectively. The DCR was 66.7% (95% CI 45–83%) with an ORR of 4.8% (1 PR with ongoing tumor reduction of 46% in pNET group). The most common treatment-related AEs ≥ grade 3 included ALT/AST increased (3.3%), diarrhea (3.3%), anemia (3.3%), neutrophil count decreased (3.3%), and tumor lysis syndrome (3.3%). No CVM-1118-related SAEs were reported. PK results showed CVM-1118 was rapidly metabolized to the active metabolite CVM-1125 in all patients following oral dosing. On Day 1, the mean drug exposure of CVM-1125 was Cmax 418 ng/mL and AUC0-24 2170 ng·hr/mL. Intersubject variability of drug exposure appeared to be high; the T1/2 of CVM-1125 was ~2.2 hr. No clear correlation between drug exposure and adverse effects or tumor reduction was observed. Conclusions: CVM-1118 has demonstrated a durable DCR with acceptable safety and tolerability. PK results showed good drug exposure with T1/2 of CVM-1125 ~2.2 hr. These data support future studies in patients with advanced NETs. Raymond E et al., 2011. N Eng J Med 364(6): 501-513. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives 1. To compare diet quality of vegan, vegetarian, paleo, and whole-food plant-based (WFPB) diets; 2. To examine how adherence varies by diet and relates to quality and diet duration; 3. To examine how compliance varies by diet and relates to quality, adherence, and duration. Methods Analysis was conducted on a subsample of ADAPT participants (n = 1392) who completed a demographics and food frequency questionnaire (FFQ; DHQ-II). After excluding implausible energy intake (600 ≤ KCAL &lt; 5,000), the final sample was 1291 (vegan [n = 355]; vegetarian [n = 90]; WFPB [n = 710]; paleo [n = 136]). Diet quality was measured with HEI and AHEI. Duration was categorized as short [&lt;2 years (n = 501)]; moderate [2 to &lt;7 y (n = 200)]; and long-term [7–10 + y (n = 592)]. A self-report adherence score was derived from questions targeting commitment to diet, ranging from 0–32. Compliance score for each diet was derived from reported intakes and DHQ-II (i.e., diet-specific restrictions), and data were %-based standardized. Models were adjusted for age and sex; select models were adjusted for diet duration. Results Mean (SD) HEI score was high in all plant-based diets, highest for WFPB 76.7(5.8), vegan 75.7 (6.5), vegetarian 72.6 (9.2), compared to paleo 62.5 (8.5); and with a similar ranking for AHEI. Vegans had highest mean adherence 23.5 (2.8) and paleos the lowest 20.0 (3.3). Vegetarians had highest mean compliance 71% (9) and WFPB lowest 53% (10). Compliance was positively associated with HEI score for WFPB and vegan with one percentage point of compliance associated with a 6.4-point increase in HEI for WFPB (SE ± 2, p &lt; .004) and 17.1 for vegan (SE ± 4, p &lt; .0001). For every point increase in compliance, adherence improved (5.4 ± 0.8, p &lt; .0001) in the full sample, and by diet group. Diet duration was significantly associated with adherence in all but vegetarian. No relationship was observed between duration and compliance within diet. Conclusions WFPB and vegan diets had the highest diet quality; all four had higher mean HEI than reported average in US adults (HEI = 59). Findings suggest that even imperfect compliance to plant-based diets is associated with greater diet quality. Diet adherence is a complex component of eating behavior, however reported adherence appears to predict higher compliance and longer maintenance. Abstract (sommario):
Ants have been found to bear exceptionally high loads of Cd and other metals, but are in general quite resistant to the toxic effects of Cd. Possible harmful effects caused to their predators by high Cd content have not been studied. Detection of a sparse population of ant-lions on a beach at Padva in Bromarv, offered the possibility to make some preliminary observations of such harmfull effects. AAS-analyses showed that free-living ant-lion larvae bear a Cd load of 4.5 ppm/dwt in young larvae, 8.5 ppm in old ones. This corresponded approximately to the level occurring in their most important food items in Padva (4.5 ppm mean for workers of Formica rufibarbis Fabricius and 6.1 ppm for foragers of F. fusca Linnaeus). The level of Cd in the single ant-lion imago caught (0.5 ppm) was clearly lower than in larvae. Among the Cdantagonistic metals, Cu showed levels in ant-lions two- or three-fold those found in ants, whereas no parallel difference existed for Zn levels. During larval development the level of the essential Cu diminished to half whereas the level of Zn increased two-fold. The fate of surplus cadmium in the food chain was followed experimentally by feeding a forest-living colony of Formica aquilonia Yarrow with 0.5 kg honey containing 600 mg CdCl2 This elevated the Cd content of surface workers up to a level1 O-f old that considered normal, 90-100 ppm (n = 4), and of the inside workers up to 5-fold, 36-61 ppm (n = 6). When surface workers were fed to ant-lion larvae ad libidum, larval Cd content rose in one week to the level of the food (87 ppm). When the feeding of ant-lion larvae was continued by feeding them inside workers for additional 4 weeks, these larvae showed a Cd level (49 ppm), similar to that of their food; then when the feeding had continued for 8 weeks, the level, however, rose to 120 ppm. All ant-lion larvae, including those with the highest Cd content, were fully active and showed no symptoms of disease. Artificial Cd-feeding had no clear effect on the Cu-levels in ants or ant-lions, but Zn responded by an increase from the natural level of 501-603 ppm to 560-1 200 ppm.

Abstract (sommario):
Brazil is a large producer of passion fruit, approximately 600 thousand tons of this fruit were produced in the year 2019, but about 70% of the mass is considered waste. The waste from this production could be aggregated in the synthesis of activated carbons for the treatment of textile effluents. However, the activated carbons need to be changed periodically and these can be removed from the inserted medium using magnetic fields by incrementing particles sensitive to this field on the surface of the adsorbent reducing the cost of the operation. The present work presents a comparison of 3 different carbons: (i) conventionally activated carbon with NaOH as an activating agent from dried passion fruit seeds at 500 °C, (ii) magnetic field sensitive activated carbon synthesized in the laboratory using FeCl3 6H2O as magnetizing agent at 700 °C and (iii) commercial activated carbon. The three types of carbons were characterized using the analyses of: FTIR, PZC, TGA and nitrogen physisorption. The adsorption tests were performed on the adsorption of methylene in batch. Four kinetic models were evaluated to predict the adsorption kinetics: pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, Elovich and Weber-Moris and four adsorption isotherm models: Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Redlich-Peterson. The characterization of the conventional activated carbon presented an adsorbent with a degradation curve by TGA that followed the dry seeds, presenting low concentration of non-volatile material, the FTIR showed in its surface ketone groups and CH2, with a pHPZC on the surface of approximately 5.46, with a microporous surface with 690 m² g-1 of type I for microporous surfaces and shows . The magnetization of this carbon significantly changed the properties on the surface, cation ionic surface; the TGA showed more non-volatile compounds, sensitivity of magnetic field, showing more acidic components on its surface such as hydroxyls and carboxyls and the surface pHPZC is 4.14 and a microporous surface with 501 m² g-1 specific surface area. The kinetic and isothermal tests showed promising, the conventional activated carbon showed a higher adsorption capacity than the commercial one and the magnetic activated carbon showed a similar adsorption capacity as the commercially available. All the adsorbents presented very similar behaviors among them, presenting a kinetics with characteristics of physisorption of a pseudo-first order adsorption and the adsorption isotherms presented a favorable behavior, endothermic and with Langmuir adsorption. Thus, the present work infers in the potential use of magnetic activated carbons in relation to the ones available in the market, with similar performance.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives: The objective of the paper is to discuss the proposed dynamic software model to detect and prevent intrusion in the cloud network. Methods: The Behavior Profiling Algorithm (BPA) has been used to detect the intrusion in cloud network. For finding the intruder in the network the Event Log Entries and the network Unique Identification Address (UIA) has been fetched from the server and then the collected attribute values have been transferred to prevention module. In the prevention module the dynamic statistical approach model has been used to prevent the network systems and data which are available in the Cloud Network. Findings: For testing the proposed model the 100 cloud network systems were taken and based on the loss of packets (in MB) ranges the samples were classified as 0-100, 101-200, 201-300, 301-400, 401-500, 501-600, 601-700 respectively. The range of data loss is assumed to be an interval of 100 Mbps. It is assumed that the higher the data loss ranges, the more data is lost. The mean, variance, and standard deviation were calculated to verify the data loss ranges. The mean (average) of the data loss in the ranges 0-100 is 060.77 and the mean in the ranges 101-200 is 144.714 data losses, which gradually increases in proportion to the data loss ranges, and in the ranges 601-700 it is 665.769 data losses. From the statistical approach model, the differences between mean and variance indicated that the intruder attacked the files during the data transformation in the network. Therefore, the administrator has to monitor the warning message from the proposed IPS model and get data packet losses in the transformation. If the frequency of data loss is low, the administrator can assume that the data flow is low due to network problems. On the other hand, if the frequency of data loss in the network system is high, he can block the transformation and protect the data file. This paper concludes that the behavioral profiling algorithm combined with a statistical model achieves an efficiency of over 96% in wired networks, over 97.6% in wireless networks, and over 98.7% in cloud networks. Novelty: In the previous paper discussed the approach which has been implemented with 40 nodes and the result of the proposed algorithm produced above 90%, 96% and 98% in the wired, wireless and cloud network respectively. Now, the model has been implemented with 100 nodes the result has been increased. This study concluded that, the efficient algorithm to detect the intrusion is behaviour profiling algorithm, while join with the statistical approach model, it produces efficient result.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Abstract 339 Initial reports that high dose imatinib results in better responses more rapidly than standard dose imatinib remain controversial. The German CML Study Group therefore compared imatinib 800 mg (IM 800) with standard dose imatinib +/- IFN (IM 400, IM 400 + IFN) in newly diagnosed, not pretreated CML with regard to molecular response at 12 months and survival in a randomized clinical trial. By April 30, 2009, 1026 chronic phase CML patients have been randomized (326 for IM 400, 338 for IM 800, 351 for imatinib + IFN). Comparison was for molecular and cytogenetic remissions, overall (OS) and progression free (PFS) survival and toxicity. 1015 patients were evaluable at baseline, 904 for survival analysis (294 for IM 400, 286 for IM 800, 324 for IM 400+IFN), 790 for cytogenetic (analysis of at least 20 metaphases required) and 823 for molecular response. The three treatment groups were similar regarding median age, sex, median values of Hb, WBC, platelets and distribution according to the EURO score. Median follow-up was 25 months in the imatinib 800 mg arm and 42 months in the imatinib 400 mg +/-IFN arms. The difference is due to the fact that at first the IM 800 arm was designed for high risk patients only and opened up to all risk groups in July 2005. The median daily doses of imatinib were 626 mg (209- 800 mg) in the IM 800 arm and 400 mg (184- 720 mg) in the IM 400 +/- IFN arms. Of 218 patients receiving imatinib 800 mg and evaluable for dosage at 12 months, 100 (45.9%) received more than 700 mg/day, 27 (12.4%) 601-700 mg, 37 (17.0%) 501-600 mg, 48 (22.0%) 401-500 mg and only 6 (2.8%) 400 mg/day or less. The cumulative incidences at 12 months of complete cytogenetic remission (CCR) were 52.3%, 64.9% and 50.6%, and of major molecular remission (MMR) 30.2%, 54.3% and 34.6% with IM 400, IM 800 and IM 400 +IFN, respectively. The cumulative incidences of achieving CCR and MMR with IM 400, IM 800 and IM 400+IFN at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after start of treatment are summarized in the table. MMR at 12 months was reached faster with IM 800 than with IM 400 (p=0.0003) or IM400+IFN (p=0.0131). Optimal molecular response (OMR=<0.01% BCR-ABL according to the international scale) was reached with IM 800 after a median of 31.3 months vs. 47.5 and 42.5 months with IM 400 +/- IFN. Also CCR was reached faster with IM 800 (p<0.01). The more rapid achievement of MMR with IM 800 was observed in low and intermediate risk patients with little or no difference in high risk patients. In an analysis “as treated” patients receiving more than 600 mg/day reached remissions faster than those receiving lower dosages (CCR after a median of 7.8 vs. 8.9 months, MMR after a median of 10.4 vs. 12.9 months). At the time of this evaluation, OS (92% at 5 years) and PFS (88% at 5 years) showed no difference. Type and severity of adverse events (AE) at 12 months did not differ from those expected (all grades and grades III/IV). Hematologic (thrombocytopenia 7% vs. 4%) and non-hematologic AEs (gastrointestinal 35% vs. 15-24% and edema 29% vs. 16-19%) were more frequent with IM 800, fatigue (14% vs. 7-13%) and neurological problems (15% vs. 6-7%) more frequent with IM 400 + IFN (all grades). These data show a significantly faster achievement of MMR at 12 months with IM 800 as compared to IM 400 +/-IFN. So far, this faster response rate did not translate into better OS or PFS. Hence IM 400 should still be considered as standard of care. With some individual dose adjustments tolerability of IM 800 was good. Longer observation is required to determine whether this more rapid achievement of MMR and CCR will have a long term impact or not. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Six phases exist in the binary system iron-germanium Fe3Ge, β, η, Fe6Ge5, FeGe and FeGe2. All phases could be prepared by chemical transport with iodine as transport agent in the temperature range between T1 (600 °C) and T2 (950 °C). Two phase diagrams have been known in the literature from specific experiments of chemical vapour transport. It is now possible to decide which phase diagram is the most valid description.

Abstract (sommario):
BackgroundThe randomized controlled trial (RCT) remains a most important research as well as a tool for drug licensing. Informed consent also remains an integral component of this tool. The exact wording of this consent is not in the public domain and we had previously raised that concern and had pointed out it should [1, 2]. As we previously indicated such transparency was important from the point of an organized skepticism an essential element of scientific inquiry [3]. Moreover, we had also indicated that this transparency was even more important in safety outcome trials (SOT)s. We have the impression that such SOTs are becoming more frequent especially with the increasing popularity of pragmatic trials [4] where the safety outcome measures are not infrequently as severe as death.ObjectivesTo tabulate the frequency of RCTs with the primary outcome measure of safety in mainline general medicine journals at two time points, thirty years apart.MethodsRCTs published in 1990-1991 vs 2019-2020 in NEJM, JAMA, LANCET and BMJ were searched by 2 independent reviewers (AO and SNE). Phase 1-2 RCTs, post-hoc analyses of RCTs and RCTs reporting long term follow-up data were excluded. RCTs with an undisputable primary endpoint of efficacy were defined as an ‘A trial’. Those trials with declared or obvious primary endpoints of ‘safety’, ‘efficacy and safety’ or simply as ‘efficacy’ in which we unanimously considered the presence of serious harm to the patients in the control arms were defined as a ‘B trial’. Finally, the trials that we could not unanimously decide whether designate A or B, were designated as C. Discrepancies were resolved after discussion with the senior author (HY) and if, even then, there was no consensus the trial remained as a C. We then compared the frequencies of the types of RCTs which were published in 1990-1991 vs 2019-2020. Other salient features, like the type and the practice setting, of these patients were also tabulated.ResultsThere were 309 RCTs published in 1990-1991 and 600 RCTs published in 2019-2020. Nineteen RCTs on COVID-19 infection were excluded for fair comparisons. As seen in the Table 1 there was a significant increase in the number SOTs in the later years. Moreover, the number of intensive care unit (ICU) trials, a setting in which obtaining informed consents can often be problematic, significantly increased.ConclusionRecently, there is a significant increase in the number of SOTs. Moreover, they are more frequently conducted in the ICUs. We strongly re-emphasize that the informed consents of all RCTs, particularly, those related to SOTs should be public. We strongly consider that such action is necessary a. to continue receiving our patients’ vital consent to enable us to continue conducting RCTs and b. for justly addressing the organized skepticism of our peers.References[1] Yazici Y, Yazici H. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) is a therapeutic option for debilitating acute recurrent or chronic pancreatitis. While postoperative diabetes and pain outcomes are well-described in these patients, the hematologic outcomes have not been thoroughly examined. Specifically, the natural history and optimal management of the nearly universal post-IAT extreme thrombocytosis (platelets >1000 K/μL) beginning within days of surgery and often lasting for months remains enigmatic. Concern for thrombosis risk from the extreme thrombocytosis has prompted empiric, widely-employed pharmacologic alteration of platelet count (hydroxyurea) and function (aspirin, ASA); however, the optimal dosing strategy and efficacy of these therapies after IAT are poorly characterized. Patients who underwent TPIAT (n=28) or subtotal pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (n=2), all with splenectomy, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center between January 1, 2015 and April 30, 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Hydroxyurea management strategies, hematologic trends, and hydroxyurea side effects were evaluated. The mean age of the patients was 12.3 years (range 3-19 years). All started ASA on post-operative day (POD) 2-3 at a median daily dose of 2 mg/kg [Interquartile Range (IQR) 1.7-2.13). This was continued until hydroxyurea was discontinued and platelet count remained normal for 4 weeks. All received prophylactic heparin and later enoxaparin post-operatively per protocol until discharge. VerifyNow® ASA testing was performed after aspirin initiation, with dose increases as necessary to reach therapeutic result. Among the 30 patients evaluated, 26 developed extreme thrombocytosis (median maximum platelet count 1298 K/μL, IQR 1046-1563), peaking at a median of 16 days (IQR 14-20). Two patients developed portal vein thromboses (POD 4 in a 13 year old with platelets 321 K/μL at diagnosis, and POD 11 in a 15 year old with platelets 1458 K/μL at diagnosis, respectively). Both patients had clot resolution while on therapeutic enoxaparin for 3 months. On July 1, 2016, a more standardized regimen for aspirin and hydroxyurea initiation, dose modification and weaning was implemented. These changes resulted in earlier hydroxyurea initiation [median 7 (IQR 6-8) versus 9 (IQR 8-10) days postoperatively, p=0.03] at lower platelet counts [median 529 (IQR 501-600) versus 938 (IQR 776-1085) K/μL, p<0.001] and potentially lower initial doses [15 (14-16) versus 20 (15-21) mg/kg/day, p=0.09]. Nine patients required hydroxyurea to be restarted after an initial wean (33% before protocol standardization, 29% afterwards). Four patients after protocol standardization never reached a platelet count >1000 K/μL, while all patients before standardization had extreme thrombocytosis. VerifyNow® ASA testing was performed earlier after standardization (POD 6 versus 7, p=0.01) with similar percentages of non-therapeutic ASA measurements in each group (22 versus 19%). The MCV rose a median 13 fL (IQR 8.75-20) while on hydroxyurea. With the current sample size, no statistically significant differences were detected between the two groups for maximum hydroxyurea dose, treatment duration, maximal platelet count, the number of patients with multiple episodes of extreme thrombocytosis, or number of days with extreme thrombocytosis. Of the 25 patients who were fully weaned off hydroxyurea as of July 31, 2018, the therapeutic course was a median 175 days (IQR 90-259). Median absolute neutrophil count (ANC) was 4140 K/μL (IQR 2700-7080). Neutropenia (ANC <1500 K/μL) was rare (24/678 measurements, 3.5%) over 5498 hydroxyurea treatment days, only necessitating hydroxyurea cessation on 4 occasions. Three patients had mild alopecia. No bleeding or gastritis occurred to necessitate ASA cessation, even while on prophylactic or therapeutic anticoagulation. Hydroxyurea and ASA are well-tolerated and appear to favorably modulate post-IAT thrombocytosis and mitigate post-surgical thrombotic risks. Earlier hydroxyurea initiation with a standardized protocol may provide more predictable platelet count responses including decreasing the risk of extreme thrombocytosis. Future studies are needed to optimize hydroxyurea treatment in this setting. Disclosures Palumbo: Ionis Pharmaceuticals: Research Funding.

Abstract (sommario):
Compounds of the Tl4LnTe3 (Ln-Nd, Sm, Tb, Er, Tm) composition were synthesized by the direct interaction of stoichiometric amounts of thallium telluride Tl2Te elementary rare earth elements (REE) and tellurium in evacuated (10-2 Pa) quartz ampoules. The samples obtained were identified by differential thermal and X-ray phase analyses. Based on the data from the heating thermograms, it was shown that these compounds melt with decomposition by peritectic reactions. Analysis of powder diffraction patterns showed that they were completely indexed in a tetragonal lattice of the Tl5Te3 type (space group I4/mcm). Using the Le Bail refinement, the crystal lattice parameters of the synthesized compounds were calculated. It was found that when the thallium atoms located in the centres of the octahedra were substituted by REE atoms, there occurred a sharp decrease in the а parameter and an increase in the с parameter. This was due to the fact that the substitution of thallium atoms with REE cations led to the strengthening of chemical bonds with tellurium atoms. This was accompanied by some distortion of octahedra and an increase in the с parameter. A correlation between the parameters of the crystal lattices and the atomic number of the lanthanide was revealed: during the transition from neodymium to thulium, therewas an almost linear decrease in both parameters of the crystal lattice, which was apparently associated with lanthanide contraction. The obtained new compounds complement the extensive class of ternary compounds - structural analogues of Tl5Te3 and are of interest as potential thermoelectric and magnetic materials. References1. Abstract (sommario):
The study was carried out to investigate the effects of egg weight on hatchability traits in emu (Dromiceius novaehollandiae) eggs. Emu eggs (393) that hatched from 3 different egg weight groups (below 500 g (G 1), 501 to 600 g (G 2) and above 601 g (G 3)) were used in the experiment. Hatching traits such as percentage of infertile eggs, early embryonic mortality, late embryonic mortality, dead-in-shell, chicks hatched out, total egg hatchability, fertile egg hatchability, fertility and chick livability were investigated. The mean±SE percentage of early embryonic mortality, late embryonic mortality, dead-in-shell, chicks hatched out, total egg hatchability, fertile egg hatchability, fertility and chick livability were statistically significant for different egg weight groups. The better hatching traits and livability of chicks were obtained from the medium emu eggs weighed between 501 and 600 g then the heavy (above 601 g) and small (below 500 g) egg weight groups.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background Reliability is acceptable performance over time and by location. The reliability of AccuChek Inform II® glucose meters was assessed in fourteen Sentara Healthcare (SH) facilities for nine years by comparison with the laboratory method. Methods Nine hundred and twenty-one patient specimens collected in parallel by fingerstick and by phlebotomy in lithium heparin tubes (Becton Dickinson) were assayed with the AccuChek Inform II glucose meter (Roche Diagnostics) and cobas c-501® (Roche Diagnostics). The data were stored in RALS® (Abbott Diagnostics) and electronically transferred to Minitab® (Version 19, Minitab Inc.) statistical software. The data, in the interval 30–600 mg/dL, were analyzed with orthogonal, ordinary least squares (OLS), weighted least squares polynomial (WLSP) and locally weighted scatter plot smoother (lowess) regression models. The aptness of the OLS model was evaluated by comparison with the orthogonal model and that of the WLSP model was evaluated with the standardized deleted residuals (Std.Del.Res) diagnostics. The equality of the regression lines, as obtained for each year and for each location, was assessed with the F statistical test. The linearity of the relationship of the two methods was assessed with the pure error test. The absolute and relative differences between the paired values as obtained with the two methods were evaluated using CLIA's acceptance limits (target value ±6 mg/dl or 10%, greater). Results The regression lines obtained with the OLS model (Inform II = 3 + 0.97 c-501) and the orthogonal model (Inform II = 2 + 0.97 c-501) were very similar and the differences were not clinically significant. The standardized residuals for both models showed an increase in variance for increasing levels of the values as obtained with the c-501 method. Consequently, a WLSP model was employed. The analysis of the Std.Del.Res. for the WLSP model showed a quasi-normal distribution with twelve possible outliers (Std.Del.Res.&gt;|3|) and no influential observations (Leverage &lt; 0.5). The test for equality of regression lines did not show probabilistically significant differences for either year (P = 0.93) or facility (P = 0.46). The pure error test showed no probabilistically significant lack-of-fit (P = 0.07). The lowess of the Std.Del.Res. plotted by the fitted value showed a quasi-linear relationship between 30 and 500 mg/dL. For values between 30 and 100 mg/dL the majority of the differences between methods was within ± 6 mg/dL. Similarly, for values between 101 and 600 mg/dL the majority of the relative differences were within ±10%. Comments The reliability of the POCT method has been demonstrated. The POCT and the laboratory methods demonstrated a linear, similar and within the CLIA's acceptance limits of total error performance in fourteen SH facilities for nine years. The application of regression models to a large data base was possible due to the availability of Minitab statistical software. Additionally, these results demonstrated the organizational reliability of the SH POCT protocols for QC, QA, acceptance of new reagents and instruments, designed by the POCT leadership and performed by the POCT personnel and nurses. This reliable performance could not have been possible without the POCT team dedication to quality.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Placenta is a temporary structure, developed during Pregnancy and discarded at Parturition. Human Placenta is of Discoid and Haemo-Chorial type. It connects the foetus with the mother's womb. It is formed by the contribution of two Individuals - both Mother and Baby. At 1 term four- fth of Placenta is of foetal origin and one- fth is of maternal. Along with Amnion, Chorion, Allantois and Yolk sac, Placenta can also be considered as one of the foetal membranes, which acts as Nutritive and Protective to the developing Embryo. Method: - The present study was done on morphology and morphometry of 150 placentae carried at the Department of Anatomy, Basaveshwara Medical College & Hospital (BMCH), Chitradurga. The placentae were collected with prior ethical clearance and proper consent. Soon after the delivery the placental surface was washed thoroughly under running tap water which were then weighed, tagged and brought to the department of Anatomy, BMCH. The parameters like size, shape and attachment of umbilical cord were noted down. Gross examination was carried out according to the proforma. Result: - The maximum number of placentae belong to the range of 501-600 gms (38.7%). Least placental weight is recorded as 205 gms, showing dispersal pattern. The maximum recorded weight is 835 gms and the average being 491.4 gms. The majority of the placentae are discoid (63.3%). The minimum length recorded is 8.9 cms, maximum as 23.80 cms and the average being 18.3 cms. Conclusion: - Careful examination of Placenta can help in explaining adverse outcomes, their management in subsequent pregnancies and assessment of new born risk.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACTThe annealing behavior of the optical properties of silicon nitride films (Si1-xNx) is described for films fabricated by ion beam assisted deposition. The data are needed for the precise manufacture of optical filters, where the index of refraction must be predicted from deposition parameters and film annealing history. The reflection of homogeneous, amorphous samples deposited on (100) silicon substrates was measured from 500 to 3120 nm. Fits to the interference spectra were obtained over the range 1000 to 3120 nm to obtain the index of refraction vs wavelength as a function of film nitrogen content. Nitrogen atom fraction was varied from.2 to.58 by variation of the incident relative fluxes of nitrogen ion beam current to evaporant silicon flux. The films were annealed in argon at 450 C, 600 C, 750 C, and 1100 C and the measurements repeated. The systematic shifts in index of refraction with annealing temperature are described.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACTWe have successfully deposited multilayer Si/ITiN/Si(100) epitaxial heterostructures at a substrate temperature of 600°C in a chamber maintained at a vacuum of ∼10−7 torr using pulsed laser (KrF: λ = 248 nm, τ = 25 ns) deposition. This silicon-on-conductor device configuration has potential applications in three-dimensional integrated circuits and radiation hard devices. The two interfaces were quite sharp without any indication of interfacial reaction between them. The epitaxial relationship was found to be <100> Si II<100> TiN II<100> Si. In the plane, four unit cells of TiN matched with three unit cells of silicon with less than 4.0% misfit. This domain matching epitaxy provides the mechanism of epitaxial growth in systems with large lattice mismatch. Energetics and growth characteristics of such domain matching epitaxy in the high lattice mismatch Si/TiN/Si(100) system and possible device implications are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Advances in the optical instrument for endoscopic surgery have enabled the anatomical recognition of minute membranes and layers previously invisible in open surgery. Those have allowed surgeons to take the benefits of conversing with the tissue. Furthermore, the recent introduction of robot-assisted surgery has made it possible to dissect with fidelity and safety according to the layers envisaged by the surgeon. Furthermore, we are increasingly having conversations with the tissues during the surgery. Especially in the upper mediastinal lymph node dissection in esophageal cancer surgery, recognizing the delicate anatomy of the membranes and layers is an important technique. We have performed more than 600 thoracoscopic esophageal cancer surgeries in the prone position and more than 100 robot-assisted esophageal cancer surgeries. In our experience, we have tried to formulate the en bloc superior mediastinal lymph node dissection by applying the concept of microanatomy such as a visceral sheath, vascular sheath, and the meso-esophagus surrounded by a visceral sheath. We have established a technique to detach the visceral sheath from the surrounding organs, release the trachea to reveal the meso-esophagus, and dissect the lymphatic chain in en-bloc while rescuing only the recurrent nerve. The spread of the visceral sheath is not symmetrical. On the left side, it is recognized as a firm membrane up to the aortic arch, but on the right side, it seems to disappear at the cervicothoracic border. This left-right difference is understandable considering the difference in the development of the primitive aortic arch on each side during fetal heart development. In this study, we report on the technique and outcomes of upper mediastinal lymph node dissection based on the concept of the microanatomy of membranes and layers, which was developed through conversations with tissues in thoracoscopic esophageal cancer surgery, and its application to robot-assisted surgery.

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: Public grant(s) – National budget only. Main funding source(s): Groupe de Rythmologie de la Société Française de Rythmologie Background Posterior Wall Isolation (PWI) is increasingly performed for Atrial Fibrillation (AF). The use of Ablation Index (AI)-guided 50W ablation for PWI has not been described, nor the interplay between ablation parameters at this power when compared to lower powers. Methods 40 consecutive AF patients (26 males, 65.5 ± 10.0 years. 95% non-paroxysmal AF) underwent PWI following pulmonary vein isolation. A roof line and floor line were created with point-by-point ablation, targeting a contact force (CF) of 10-30g, AI 550-600 on the roof and 400-450 on the floor, and inter-tag distance of &lt;6mm. 35-40W powers were used for the first 20 patients, and 50W used for the next 20. Generator impedance was monitored in real time for each lesion. Ablation inside the box was delivered in case of failure of first pass isolation (FPI). All VisiTags (n = 959) were analyzed retrospectively. Results PWI was successful in 19(95%) of the 35-40W group and in all 20 patients in the 50W group, with FPI seen in 8(40%) and 10(50%) respectively, p = 0.53. The mean CF and number of RF applications on the roof. floor and inside the box were similar between the two groups. Ablation time per lesion (10.4 [8.8-12.5]sec) and total ablation time per patient (3.84[3.34-4.66] min) were shorter in the 50W group as compared to 35-40W (13.0 [11.6-16.2] sec and 5.86 [4.23-7.73] min respectively), p &lt; 0.005. The mean AI and Impedance Drop were larger in the 50W group (Table). There was no steam pop observed in any of the 959 radiofrequency applications. Conclusion Ablation Index guided 50W ablation has a very high success rate for posterior wall isolation with shorter ablation times and higher impedance drop compared to conventional powers. Steam pops may be avoidable by targeting CF &lt; 30g, and by monitoring impedance in real-time. 50W Group(N = 458) 35-40W Group(N = 501) p-value Number of lesions (s, IQR)Roof lineFloor lineAdditional ablation inside box 21.5 [19.5-26.3]7.0 [5.8-9.0]13.0 [10.8-14.3]6.0 [6.0-6.8] 24.0 [20.8-29.5]8.0 [6.0-10.0]12.5 [10.8-14.0]5.5 [2.8-9.0] 0.330.180.850.59 Ablation Time per lesion (s, IQR)Roof lineFloor lineAdditional ablation inside box 10.4 [8.8-12.5]13.0 [10.9-16.0]9.9 [8.7-11.4]8.1 [6.9-9.0] 13.0 [11.6-16.2]14.5 [12.4-19.0]12.7 [11.4-15.9]11.8 [10.6-14.0] &lt;0.005&lt;0.005&lt;0.005&lt;0.005 Total RF Time (min, IQR)Roof lineFloor lineAdditional ablation inside box 3.84 [3.34-4.66]1.54 [1.15-1.90]2.06 [1.68-2.54]0.79 [0.65-1.07] 5.86 [4.23-7.73]1.98 [1.62-2.59]2.78 [2.28-3.25]1.07 [0.59-1.42] &lt; 0.0050.0190.0090.50 Impedance Drop (ohms, IQR)Roof lineFloor lineAdditional ablation inside box 7.4 [5.2-10.3]8.7 [6.1-11.3]6.9 [5.0-10.1]7.1 [5.4-9.8] 6.9 [4.8-9.7]7.5 [5.1-10.0]6.0 [4.2-8.3]8.3 [5.8-10.9] 0.0070.04&lt; 0.0050.17 Contact Force (g, IQR)Roof lineFloor lineAdditional ablation inside box 21.1 [14.5-30.3]23.9 [17.8-32.7]19.2 [13.2-25.3]25.5 [18.5-36.9] 21.2 [14.9-28.1]24.3 [17.2-30.3]19.0 [14.1-25.0]23.1 [16.9-31.7] 0.560.450.870.21 Ablation Index (IQR)Roof lineFloor lineAdditional ablation inside box 471 [441-519]560 [509-571]453 [436-475]461 [430-488] 461 [434-493]502 [466-541]446 [426-464]455 [434-478] &lt; 0.005&lt; 0.005&lt; 0.0050.59 Lesion level analysis for Posterior Wall Isolation

Nitsch, Cordula. "Political topics (Fiction)". DOCA - Database of Variables for Content Analysis, 26 marzo 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.34778/3b.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The variable examines which political topics are prevalent in fictional entertainment. Studies differentiate either between the two categories political and sociopolitical issues (e.g., Eilders & Nitsch, 2015) or they take a closer look at the presented political topics by differentiating between the three thematic dimensions of politics: polity for the institutional and normative infrastructure, policy for particular political issues, and politics for competition and power relations (e.g., Nitsch et al., 2019; Nitsch & Eilders, 2015). Field of application/theoretical foundation The differentiation between the three dimensions of politics goes back to political science and allows insights into which picture of politics is presented in the media. Analyses show that fictional (and non-fictional) media content tends to have a strong focus on the dimension of politics, i.e. movies and TV-series typically concentrate on negotiation processes between the parties and the power struggle between political camps (e.g., Jandura et al., 2016; Nitsch & Eilders, 2015; Nitsch et al., 2019). References/combination with other methods of data collection --- Example study Nitsch & Eilders, 2015 Information on Nitsch & Eilders, 2015 Authors: Cordula Nitsch & Christiane Eilders Research interest: depiction of politics (centrality of politics, topics, actors, political actions) in political dramas of two different countries (US and Germany) Object of analysis: two political dramas (“The West Wing”, US; “Kanzleramt”, Germany) Timeframe of analysis: 2004-2005 Information about variable Variable name/definition: Politische Themen [political topics] Pro Szene können bis zu drei politische Themen codiert werden, nämlich jeweils ein Thema aus den drei Bereichen polity, policy und politics. [Up to three political topics can be coded per scene, namely one topic each of the three dimensions polity, policy and politics. In a scene where several topics are addressed (e.g. a group of people talking), the central topic must be determined. If it is not possible to determine which is the most dominant topic, the first one is coded. Politics, policy, polity is coded exclusively for its own national context. Foreign policy is coded as a national policy. Justice issues are usually coded in the area of polity; unless the need for political action is articulated, in which case these topics are coded as legal policy in the policies.] Level of analysis: Szenenebene Scale level: Nominal Reliability: .83 (polity .70, policy .96, politics .84) V10 [THEMA-polity] Polity (Strukturen und Institutionen) 0 kein polity Thema angesprochen 101 Bundesrat (USA: Senat) 102 Bundestag (USA: Congress) 103 Parlamente 104 Parteien bzw.
