Children’s cancer is par excellence a disease of a multidisciplinary nature. It is therefore unrealistic to expect a single person with a single qualification to have the skills and capabilities to carry out a comprehensive assessment and institute competent interventions in all these areas. Decisions and interventions will be in accordance with the decision of the multidisciplinary committee of therapeutic indications.According to the WHO, every year approximately 400,000 children and adolescents between the ages of 0 and 19 develop cancer. The most common childhood cancers include leukemias, brain cancers, lymphomas, and solid tumors such as neuroblastoma and Wilms tumors [1, 2, 3]. In 2019 globally there were 291.3 thousand new cases and 98.8 thousand deaths from childhood cancer worldwide, with a prevalence of 1.8 million [4]. However, the 5-year survival of childhood cancer patients has increased impressively to more than 80% in recent decades, mainly attributed to improved diagnostic technologies and multiagent cytotoxic regimens.

The catalytic transfer hydrogenation of biomass-derived furfural to furfuryl alcohol under mild conditions is an attractive topic in biorefinery. Herein, mesoporous Zr-containing hybrids (Zr-hybrids) with a high surface area (281.9–291.3 m2/g) and large pore volume (0.49–0.74 cm3/g) were prepared using the biomass-derived 5-sulfosalicylic acid as a ligand, and they were proved to be highly efficient for the Meerwein–Ponndorf–Verley reduction of furfural to furfuryl alcohol at 110 °C, with the highest furfuryl alcohol yield reaching up to 97.8%. Characterizations demonstrated that sulfonic and carboxyl groups in 5-sulfosalicylic acid molecules were coordinated with zirconium ions, making zirconium ions fully dispersed, thus leading to the formation of very fine zirconia particles with the diameter of <2 nm in mesoporous Zr-hybrids. The interaction between the 5-sulfosalicylic acid ligands and zirconium ions endowed mesoporous Zr-hybrids with relatively higher acid strength but lower base strength, which was beneficial for the selective reduction of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. A recycling study was performed over a certain mesoporous Zr-hybrid, namely meso-Zr-SA15, demonstrating that the yield and selectivity of furfuryl alcohol remained almost unchanged during the five consecutive reaction cycles. This study provides an optional method to prepare hybrid catalysts for biomass refining by using biomass-derived feedstock.

Synthetic zeolite-A (ZA) was hybridized with two different biopolymers (chitosan and β-cyclodextrin) producing biocompatible chitosan/zeolite-A (CS/ZA) and β-cyclodextrin/zeolite-A (CD/ZA) biocomposites. The synthetic composites were assessed as bio-carriers of the 5-fluorouracil drug (5-Fu) with enhanced properties, highlighting the impact of the polymer type. The hybridization by the two biopolymers resulted in notable increases in the 5-Fu loading capacities, to 218.2 mg/g (CS/ZA) and 291.3 mg/g (CD/ZA), as compared to ZA (134.2 mg/g). The loading behaviors using ZA as well as CS/ZA and CD/ZA were illustrated based on the classic kinetics properties of pseudo-first-order kinetics (R2 > 0.95) and the traditional Langmuir isotherm (R2 = 0.99). CD/ZA shows a significantly higher active site density (102.7 mg/g) in comparison to CS/ZA (64 mg/g) and ZA (35.8 mg/g). The number of loaded 5-Fu per site of ZA, CS/ZA, and CD/ZA (>1) validates the vertical ordering of the loaded drug ions by multi-molecular processes. These processes are mainly physical mechanisms based on the determined Gaussian energy (<8 kJ/mol) and loading energy (<40 kJ/mol). Both the CS/ZA and CD/ZA 5-Fu release activities display continuous and controlled profiles up to 80 h, with CD/ZA exhibiting much faster release. According to the release kinetics studies, the release processes contain non-Fickian transport release properties, suggesting cooperative diffusion and erosion release mechanisms. The cytotoxicity of 5-Fu is also significantly enhanced by these carriers: 5-Fu/ZA (11.72% cell viability), 5-Fu/CS/ZA (5.43% cell viability), and 5-Fu/CD/ZA (1.83% cell viability).

Objectives The objective of this study was to investigate current perception and expected price of personal sound amplification products (PSAPs) and to analyze influencing factors through multi-center hospital-based surveys of outpatients, caregivers, and hearing experts. Methods A multi-center exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted in two groups of respondents with two separate surveys: 1) a perception survey of patients and caregivers who visited an otorhinolaryngology outpatient clinic in 5 general hospitals and 2) an opinion survey of hearing specialists about the expected price of PSAPs. A total of 197 outpatient visitors responded to the perception survey, and 42 hearing specialists responded to the opinion survey. Results Overall perception score (18 questions) was 3.04 (95% CI, 3.00–3.09). When 5 categories of perception (knowledge, needs, cost, expectation, and information categories) were analyzed, cost and expectation showed the highest scores of 3.33 (95% CI, 3.21–3.44) and 3.33 (95% CI, 3.27–3.40), respectively, and needs showed the lowest score of 2.23 (95% CI, 1.97–2.49). The ≥ 60-year-old group showed significantly higher perception of PSAPs (P = 0.002), and the individuals with greater severity of subjective hearing loss showed significantly higher perception of PSAPs (P = 0.002). The expected price of PSAPs of the outpatient visitors was 933.9 USD (95% CI, 811.9–1056.0) per ear. Mean expected price of PSAPs of hearing specialists was 291.3 USD (95% CI, 238.2–344.3) per ear. Conclusion The perception rate of PSAPs was very low, and there was a discrepancy in the expected price of PSAPs between patients/caregivers and hearing experts. Hearing specialists should make effort to improve perception of PSAPs.

The following compounds were prepared by cocrystallization of their components from MeOH or MeCN and structurally characterized by low-temperature X-ray diffraction: Na[N(SO2Me)2]·HN(SO2Me)2·2 (12-crown-4) (2, orthorhombic, space group Pna21). Na[N(SO2Me)·HN(SO2Me)·(15-crown-5) (3, monoclinic. P21/n), Na[N(SO2Ph)2] · HN(SO2Ph)2 · 2 (12-crown-4) (4. monoclinic. P21). (MeNH)2COHN(SO2Ph)2·0.5 MeCN (5, monoclinic. P21/n). The four structures exhibit [(RSO2)2N-H ··· N(SO2R)2]- anions as rare examples of intermolecular [N-H ···N]- homo- conjugates. The N ··· N distances of the asymmetric hydrogen bonds are. in order. 266.9(6). 276.0(3). 291.3(4) and 279.4(2) pm. the corresponding N-H···N angles amounting to 137(10), 176(3), 177(4) and 177(2)°. The asymmetry of the hydrogen bonds is clearly reflected in the geometry of the NS2 groups (amine moieties: N-S 162.3-165.2 pm. S-N-S 124.5-127.1°; amide moieties: N-S 159.7-161.8 pm. S-N-S 119.1-122.6°). The dihedral angles formed by the NS2 planes vary from 51.8° in 4 to 87.6° in 5. The crystal lattices of 2 and 4 consist of discrete ions, sandwich-type [Na(12-crown-4)2]+ complexes acting as the counter-ions. In 3. Product simulation programs with DSSAT are based on the principle of predicting the potentials of yield and other phenological parameters of wheat varieties with different fertilizer application doses in different climatic and soil conditions. For this purpose, different wheat varieties (Bayraktar, Tosunbey) were used in order to test the use of the DSSAT simulation model in semi-arid conditions in the Ikizce experimental area of the Haymana District of Ankara Province, Field Crops Central Research Institute, during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 periods. The aim of this study is to predict yield in wheat varieties (Bayraktar, Tosunbey) using CERES and CROPGRO sub-models of DSSAT v.4.7.5 simulation model. In the study, the model was run at different nitrogen application doses (0, 6, 12, 18 kg/da) to reveal the yield prediction potential of the wheat cultivars in semi-arid conditions. For the calibration of the model, the grain yield, plant height and Leaf area index (LAI) data obtained were used in the first year of wheat development stage.The accuracy of the model, which was calibrated with the first year data, was tested with the second year data. For Bayraktar variety, the average measured yield obtained from different nitrogen dose applications (N0,N6,N18) for the 2017-2018 period is 373.3 kg/da, the simulated yield is 373.7 kg/da (N12 dose is neglected), the measured yield for 2018-2019 300. 5 kg/da, the simulated yield was found to be 291.3 kg/da.For the Tosunbey variety, the average yield measured for the 2017-2018 period was 370.0 kg/da, the simulated yield was 338.0 kg/da, the measured yield for the 2018-2019 year was 217.58 kg/da, and the estimated yield was 237.83 kg/da.

В статье исследуются проблемы применения нормы, закрепляющей уголовную ответственность за посредничество во взяточничестве, обусловленные несовершенством законодательной конструкции ст. 291.1 УК РФ. Автор рассматривает основные формы посредничества во взяточничестве: физическое и интеллектуальное. Особое внимание уделяется признаку значительного размера предмета взятки, который имеет принципиальное значение для оценки деяния по данной статье. Отмечается, что, согласно действующей редакции ст. 291.1 УК РФ, осуществление посредничества в даче или получении взятки в размере, не превышающем 25 тыс. руб., не может образовать указанный состав преступления. Подчеркивается, что посредничество во взяточничестве при отсутствии признака значительного размера не может образовывать соучастие в получении или даче взятки. В связи с этим автор считает нецелесообразным указание на значительный размер в ч. 1 ст. 291.1 УК РФ. Также в статье рассматривается проблема расширительного толкования физического посредничества в даче и (или) получении взятки. Анализируются положения ч. 5 ст. 291.1 УК РФ, в которой устанавливается уголовная ответственность за обещание или предложение посредничества во взяточничестве. Автор отмечает, что необоснованность отсутствия указания в ч. 5 ст. 291.1 УК РФ на значительный размер предмета взятки позволяет говорить об установлении уголовной ответственности за приготовление к посредничеству во взяточничестве независимо от размера предмета взятки. В связи с этим предлагается исключить из уголовного закона ч. 5 ст. 291.1.

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) plasma at different pressures, powers, and times was used to treat Kraft paper (KP) to enhance its water resistance. The KP was treated with SF6 plasma from 20–300 mTorr of pressure at powers from 25–75 Watts and treatment times from 1–30 min at 13.56 MHz. The prepared papers were characterized by contact angle measurement and water absorption. The selected optimum condition for the plasma-treated KP was 200 mTorr at 50 Watts for 5 min. Advancement with the change in treatment times (3, 5, and 7 min) on the physical and mechanical properties, water resistance, and morphology of KP with SF6 plasma at 200 mTorr and 50 Watts was evaluated. The changes in the chemical compositions of the plasma-treated papers were analyzed with an XPS analysis. The treatment times of 0, 3, 5, and 7 min revealed fluorine/carbon (F/C) atomic concentration percentages at 0.00/72.70, 40.48/40.97, 40.18/37.95, and 45.72/39.48, respectively. The XPS spectra showed three newly raised peaks at 289.7~289.8, 291.5~291.7, and 293.4~293.6 eV in the 3, 5, and 7 min plasma-treated KPs belonging to the CF, CF2, and CF3 moieties. The 5 min plasma-treated paper promoted a better interaction between the SF6 plasma and the paper yielded by the F atoms. As the treatment time for the treated KPs increased, the contact angle, water absorption time, and Cobb test values increased. However, the thickness and tensile strength did not show remarkable changes. The SEM images revealed that, as the treatment time increased, the surface roughness of the plasma-treated KPs also increased, leading to improved water resistance properties. Overall, the SF6 plasma treatment modified the surface at the nano-layer range, creating super-hydrophobicity surfaces.

The article examines the problems of applying the norm, fixing the criminal liability for intermediation in bribery, due to the imperfection of the legislative structure 291.1 of the Criminal Code. The author considers the main forms of intermediation in bribery: physical and intellectual. Particular attention is paid to the sign of a significant size of the subject of the bribe, which is of fundamental importance for assessing the act under this article. It is noted that according to the current version of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code intermediation in giving or receiving a bribe in an amount not exceeding 25 thousand rubles cannot form the specified corpus delicti. It is emphasized that intermediation in bribery in the absence of a sign of significant size cannot form complicity in receiving or giving a bribe. In this regard the author considers it inappropriate to indicate a significant amount in part 1 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code. The article also considers the problem of a broad interpretation of physical intermediation in giving and (or) receiving a bribe. The provisions of Part 5 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code, which establish criminal liability for a promise or offer of inter mediation in bribery, are analysed. The author notes that the groundlessness of the lack of guidance in Part 5 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on a significant size of the subject of a bribe allows us to talk about the establishment of criminal liability for preparation for intermediation in bribery, regardless of the size of the subject of a bribe. In this regard it is proposed to exclude part 5 of Art. 291.1 from the Criminal Code.

Background: End-stage heart failure (HF) is refractory to current standard medical therapy, and the number of donor hearts is insufficient to meet the demand for transplantation. Recent studies suggest autologous stem cell therapy may regenerate cardiomyocytes, stimulate neovascularization, and improve cardiac function and clinical status. Although human fetal-derived stem cells (HFDSCs) have been studied for the treatment of a variety of conditions, no clinical studies have been reported to date on their use in treating HF. We sought to determine the efficacy and safety of HFDSC treatment in HF patients.Methods and Results: Direct myocardial transplantation of HFDSCs by open-chest surgical procedure was performed in 10 patients with HF due to nonischemic, nonchagasic dilated cardiomyopathy. Before and after the procedure, and with no changes in their preoperative doses of medications (digoxin, furosemide, spironolactone, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, betablockers), patients were assessed for New York Heart Association (NYHA) class, performance in the exercise tolerance test (ETT), ejection fraction (EF), left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD) via transthoracic echocardiography, performance in the 6-minute walk test, and performance in the Minnesota congestive HF test. All 10 patients survived the operation. One patient had a stroke 3 days after the procedure, and although she later recovered, she was unable to perform the follow-up tests. Another male patient experienced pericardial effusion 3 weeks after the procedure. Although it resolved spontaneously, the patient abandoned his control tests and died 5 months after the procedure. An autopsy of the myocardium suggested that new young cells were present in the cardiomyocyte mix. At 40 months, the mean (SD) NYHA class decreased from 3.4 0.5 to 1.33 0.5 (P = .001); the mean EF increased 31%, from 26.6% 4% to 34.8% 7.2% (P = .005); and the mean ETT increased 291.3%, from 4.25 minutes to 16.63 minutes (128.9% increase in metabolic equivalents, from 2.46 to 5.63) (P < .0001); the mean LVEDD decreased 15%, from 6.85 0.6 cm to 5.80 0.58 cm (P < .001); mean performance in the 6-minute walk test increased by 43.2%, from 251 113.1 seconds to 360 0 seconds (P = .01); the mean distance increased 64.4%, from 284.4 144.9 m to 468.2 89.8 m (P = .004); and the mean result in the Minnesota test decreased from 71 27.3 to 6 5.9 (P < .001).Conclusion: Although these initial findings suggest direct myocardial implantation of HFDSCs is feasible and improves cardiac function in HF patients at 40 months, more clinical research is required to confirm these observations.

Background: Cardiorenal anaemia syndrome (CRAS) has been reported to be associated with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events in outpatients with heart failure (HF). Objective: To evaluate the clinical situation of CRAS including NYHA class and care status in elderly outpatients with HF. Methods: A total of 41 elderly (>65 years) outpatients with HF attending our hospital were analysed retrospectively and cross-sectionally. Clinical variables included lifestyle diseases, atrial fibrillation, valvular heart disease, HFpEF, chronic kidney disease (CKD), cardiac function (LVEF, E/e’, LADI, BNP), anaemia (Hb, Fe/TIBC (%), ferritin), medications (diuretics, MRA, ACEI/ARB, β-blockers, SGLT2i, ARNI, tolvaptan), NYHA class (I/II/III/IV). The nursing variables analysed were Japanese nursing certification class, which assesses active daily living (ADL), instrumental ADL, cognitive function, mental function, physical function, communication, and need for support/care (from least to most intensive, independence 0/support(S)1/S2/care(C)1/C2/C3/C4/C5) and frailty. Subjects were divided into two groups (CRAS+group and CRAS−group) according to the presence of CRAS, defined as HF associated with CKD (eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2) and anaemia (Hb < 13 g/dL, men and Hb < 12 g/dL, women). All variables were compared between the two groups. Results: Mean age was 83.7 ± 7.1 years (67∼100). Female gender was 63.4% (26/41). The incidence of HFpEF was 33/41 (80.5%). The incidence of CRAS was 53.7% (22/41). The incidence of lifestyle diseases was not different between the two groups. Cardiac function was not significantly different between the two groups (CRAS+ vs. CRAS−): LVEF (59.1 ± 8.3 vs. 61.3 ± 7.2); E/e (15.1 ± 5.8 vs. 15.0 ± 7.0); LAVI (50.6 ± 16.6 vs. 54.3 ± 30.9); BNP (347.0 ± 234.4 vs. 291.3 ± 197.0). Hb was significantly lower in the CRAS+ group than in the CRAS group (10.4 ± 1.4 vs. 13.4 ± 1.7, P < 0.0001). Fe/TIBC and ferritin were not significantly different between the two groups. Regarding medications, tolvaptan tended to be used more frequently in the CRAS+ group than in the CRSA− group (4/22 vs. 0/18, P = 0.111). The other drugs were used with similar frequency. Meanwhile, the NYHA class tended to be higher in the CRAS+ group than in the CRAS− group: NYHA (8/9/5/0 vs. 8/11/0/0, P = 0.082). Nursing class showed more intensive care in the CRAS+ group than in the CRAS−group (4/3/3/2/4/1/3/2 vs. 11/0/6/1/0/1/0/0, P = 0.021). Conclusions: The association of CRAS with HF was associated with more intensive support/care status but not with cardiac function/BNP and other factors. Prevention and active treatment of CRAS may improve the independence of elderly outpatients with HF.

The subject of the study is mediation in bribery as a special type of complicity in Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The authors consider in detail the aspects of its reflection in the specified article of the Special part of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, as a circumstance having a specific similarity with the methods of aiding and abetting, regulated in Part 5 of Article 33 of the General Part of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Special attention is paid to the issue under consideration to clarify the meaning and content of the explanations of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, to study the opinions of criminologists in the field of criminal law, the rules of the Russian language and to identify the etymology of the origin of the word. The purpose of the work is to analyze the sign of mediation within the framework of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for its attribution to a special type of complicity that has a genetic connection with the provisions of Part 5 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The research is based on the universal dialectical method of cognition. In addition, the article uses such general scientific and private scientific methods as analysis, synthesis, analogy, induction, deduction, historical, systemic-structural, formal-legal. The result of the work was the revealed dissonance in the acts of judicial interpretation related to the criminal law assessment of mediation actions carried out in a small amount, within the framework of Articles 204.1 and 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Part 5 of Article 184 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The authors have revealed that mediation in bribery, in essence, is correlated with complicity (within the meaning of Part 5 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The novelty of the work lies in the fact that it attempts to study mediation in bribery as a special type of complicity in the context of the systemic connection of the General and Special parts of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, with proposals for legislative transformation of parts 5 of Articles 33 and 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. At the end of the article, a conclusion is drawn about the imperfection of the norms on the types of accomplices to a crime regulated in the General Part of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. In particular, the list of complicit actions in Part 5 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is closed, but it is more expedient to make it open, which, it seems, may lead to the exclusion of liability for mediation in bribery (Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Abstract C(CH2Cl)3(CH3), melting point Tm = 291.3 K, shows in the DTA/DSC experiment a phase tran-sition from an orientationally disordered plastic phase I into an ordered phase II at TI ⃗ II = 235.9 K. From 77 K up to TII ⃗ I the 35Cl NQR spectrum is a triplet with (ν in MHz, T=77 K) ν1 = 34.213, ν2 = 34.183, ν3 = 33.786. The 35Cl NQR fade-out temperature Tf = 247 K coincides with TII ⃗ I found from the DSC experiment. The plastic phase of 2-chloromethyl-2-methyl-l,3-propanediol is cubic bcc, Im3m, Z = 2 and the lattice constant increases linearly 755 pm at 235 K to 768 pm at 283 K. In the heating cycle we found (ΔH in kJ/mol): ΔHII ⃗ I = 12.0, ΔSm/R = 1.0. The compound belongs to the group of plastic molecules formed by ellipsoid like distorted tetrahedra and is derived by substitution from methane. The crystal structure of 2,2-bis(bromomethyl)-1,3-propanediol was determined. DTA-DSC show that an orientationally disordered plastic phase does not exist. At room temperature C(CH2Br)2(CH2OH)2 crystallizes monoclinic, space group Cc, Z = 4, a = 628.2 pm, 6 = 2015.5 pm, c = 659.6 pm, β = 94.27°. The molecules interact by intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the OH-groups and by van der Waals forces Br…Br.

The molecule has Z configuration about the exocyclic double bond, and the benzylidene ring is twisted 61.3° out of the oxazoline ring plane, thus relieving the overcrowding caused by the two ortho-methyl substituents. The reaction of this compound with benzylamine in acetonitrile occurs almost four times as fast as predicted using model reactions.

The ferrites (Ni0.2Cu0.2Zn0.6)1.02(Fe2O4)0.98 were prepared by standard solid state method and sintered at different temperatures. The effects of different Bi2O3 additives (0<x<5 wt%) on the phase formation, crystal structure and properties were investigated. The results of thermal analysis (DSC) showed that Bi2O3 played an important role in the process of sintering. The magnetization and the permeability were measured at room temperature, with increasing of Bi2O3 amount, the saturation magnetization had no obvious change and the initial permeability decreased from 291.2 to 197.6. SEM micrographs showed that the average grain size decreased with increasing Bi2O3 contents, but more Bi2O3 (x≥4wt %) additives may resulted in the abnormal grain growth.

Aim: The pharmacokinetic study of the brimonidine tartrate in situ gel in the anterior chamber of the rabbit eye was studied by microdialysis technique, and samples were analyzed by HPLC–MS/MS. Materials & methods: It was monitored in ESI mode at transition 291.9→212.0 and 296.0→216.0 for brimonidine and internal standard, respectively. Acetonitrile and 0.1% aqueous formic acid (50:50, v/v) were used as the mobile phase at 0.4 ml/min. Results & conclusion: It showed a good linear correlation between 5 and 5000 ng/ml in microdialysis solution, and the inter- and intra-day precision (relative standard deviation) was less than 4.0%. The pharmacokinetic study showed that the AUC(0-t) of in situ gel was 3.5-times than that of eyedrops, which significantly improve the bioavailability of brimonidine.

Unfortunately, Hebron's utility grid experiences excessive electricity bills and inadequate energy security. since there aren't any power plants and the most of the electricity is imported from elsewhere. This study uses the PVsyst software to build and analyze the economics of an on-grid solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system. The research's conclusions show that the planned rooftop solar PV system for use on the grid has a particular solar PV capacity of 100 kW, with a potential annual energy output of 169 MWh. The system's initial capital cost to create is US$100,000, with a payback period of 5 years and a projected return on investment (ROI) of 291.1%, according to the economic study.

Old-growth forests are widely recognised for the benefits they provide for biodiversity; however, a more comprehensive understanding of their role in climate change mitigation must still be established to find the optimal balance between different forest ecosystem services at a national or regional scale. Very few studies have assessed carbon pools in old-growth Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)-dominated boreal forests, and none have been conducted in hemiboreal forests. Therefore, we assessed the carbon storage of the living tree biomass, deadwood, forest floor (soil organic horizon, including all litter and decomposed wood), and mineral soil in 25 hemiboreal old-growth (163–218 years) unmanaged Scots pine stands in Latvia. The studied stands were without known records of any major natural or human-made disturbance in the visible past. Our results show, that the total ecosystem carbon pool (excluding ground vegetation) was 291.2 ± 54.2 Mg C ha−1, which was primarily composed of living tree biomass (59%), followed by mineral soil (31%), deadwood (5%), and the forest floor (5%). Within the studied stand age group, the total carbon pool remained stable; however, interchanges among the carbon pools, i.e., living biomass and laying deadwood, did occur.

The highest PR (mm/blow) recorded was 11.4 mm/blow and the lowest is 55.5 mm/blow. The layers encountered during the measurement ranges from loose, medium and dense soils, where the average thicknesses of loose layers ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 m, medium layers 0.5 to 3.0 m and dense layers 3.0 to 6 m. The average CBR values recorded at interval of 1m to 6 m depths are as follows: 5%, 8%, 12%, 15%, 16% and 16%. Accordingly, the averages bearing pressures calculated were 104.8 KN/m2, 165.5 KN/m2, 231.9 KN/m2, 283.3 KN/m2, 291.5 KN/m2 and 301.1 KN/m2. It shows significant increase in strength with depths.

Little is known about the effect of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) specific therapy on pulmonary hemodynamics and exercise capacity in patients with portopulmonary hypertension (PoPH) because such patients are usually excluded from randomized clinical trials (RCT) of such therapy.Methods. We searched PUBMED using the terms “(Therapy/Broad (filter)) AND (portopulmonary hypertension).” We included studies that met the following criteria: ≥5 patients, AND PoPH confirmed by right heart catheterization (RHC), AND follow-up RHC data, AND/OR baseline and follow-up 6MWD available.Results. 12 studies met our inclusion criteria. None was a RCT. The baseline mPAP was 48.6 ± 4.4 mmHg, cardiac output (CO) 5.6 ± 0.9 L/min, and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) 668.6 ± 219.1 dynes.sec/cm5. The baseline 6MWD was 348.2 ± 35.6 meters. The use of PAH specific therapy improved mPAP by 7.54 mmHg (95% CI 10.2 to 4.9), CO by 1.77 L/min (95% CI 1.1 to 2.4), and PVR by 253 dynes.sec/cm5(95% CI 291.4 to 214.6) (n=135) and 6MWD by 61.8 meters (95% CI 47.5 to 76) (n=122).Conclusions. The use of PAH specific therapy in PoPH results in significant improvement in both pulmonary hemodynamics and 6MWD.

Background: Osteoarthritis is the most common degenerative joint disease worldwide but its treatment can cause serious adverse events. Ethanol extract of peanut shells contains luteolin functioned as its main anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective agent. Apis dorsata honey also contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent, especially from Tualang honey type. Both have the potential to reduce inflammation and prevent articular degradation in osteoarthritis.Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of peanut shells extract and Apis dorsata honey on matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) level in monosodium iodoacetate-induced (MIA) osteoarthritic rats.Methods: In this in vivo study, female Wistar rats (n=27) were randomly divided to nine groups containing three rats each. Treatment was given to group 1, 2, and 3: Tualang honey (TH) 25% + peanut shells extract (PSE) with 1%, 5%, and 10% concentration; group 4, 5, and 6: TH 50% + PSE with 1%, 5%, and 10% concentration; group 7: diclofenac sodium (positive control); group 8: aquadest (negative control); and group 9: aquadest (normal) for 10 days. We induced knee osteoarthritis by intraarticular injection of MIA in day 4. Anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective activities were evaluated with MMP-3 ELISA.Results: The mixture of peanut shells extract and Apis dorsata honey significantly reduced MMP-3 level in group 1 (331.12 pg/ml), group 2 (291.73 pg/ml), group 3 (266.58 pg/ml), group 4 (274.15 pg/ml), group 5 (251.12 pg/ml), and group 6 (220.52 pg/ml) after 10 days of treatment. MMP-3 level was also evaluated in group 7 (169.61 pg/ml), group 8 (413.55 pg/ml), and group 9 (39 pg/ml). Compared to the negative control group, treatment and diclofenac groups showed significant effect in reducing MMP-3 level in patello-femoral articular cartilage.Conclusion: Peanut shells extract and Apis dorsata honey showed antiinflammatory and chondroprotective effect by reducing MMP-3 level in MIA-induced osteoarthritic rats.

The results of this study indicate that the average value of air dry moisture content of sengon wood is 14.081%, the air dry density is 0.326 g/m3 and oven dry density is 0.295 g/m3. The highest average retention value was at 3 days immersion with a concentration of 7% i.e. 16.161 kg/m3 and the lowest was at 1 day immersion with a concentration of 3% i.e. 5.161 kg/m3. The highest value of burn intensity at 2 days immersion with a 3% concentration i.e. 16.249% and the lowest at 1 day immersion with a concentration of 7% i.e. 6.025%. Preservation of sengon wood using natrium silicate at a concentration of 3%, 5% and 7% and immersion for 1 day, 2 days and 3 days is less effective in holding the fire rate, because the value is still below the ASTM E69 standard (2002) i.e. 7.5. The effective test of preservative (W) obtained the highest value of burn intensity at 1 day immersion with a concentration of 7% i.e. 7,490 and the lowest value at 2 days of immersion with a concentration of 3%, i.e. 3,231. The maximum temperature ranges from 206.0-291.2°C and the cooking time ranges from 206.1-607.8 seconds.

The role of protected areas has been expanded into climate change mitigation, specifically on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+). A reliable and practical method for measuring, reporting and verifying carbon stock is an essential component for REDD+. This study aims to recognize the characteristic and estimate aboveground forest carbon (AGC) stock in the tropical protected tropical area using a combination of terrestrial forest inventory and spatial data. A 168 cluster plots totaling 33.6 hectares were taken proportionally based on the percentage of forest cover types (dryland primary natural forest/DPF and dryland secondary natural forest/DSF) using a traditional forest inventory method (more than 5 cm dbh). Results showed that Bukit Tigapuluh National Park secured a significant AGC stock which has been estimated to be 269.2 [247.07; 291.43] tC/ha or 35,823,639 [32,872,312; 38,774,966] tC in total, being stored in approximately 133,051 hectares of the tropical rain forest. This result was higher than other studies in non-protected areas but slightly lower than other studies within protected areas. This finding supported the argument that protected areas possess a higher figure of AGC stock than other forest management units. The high amount of forest carbon biomass in the protected areas shall be very important assets for conducting the role of conservation for REDD+.

AbstractObjective:To estimate the incidence of Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) and Korsakoffs psychosis (KP) before and after the introduction of thiamin enrichment of bread in Australia.Design and subjects:Inpatient records were examined in 17 major public general hospitals in greater Sydney for the 4 years 1993–96 (inclusive) with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 9 diagnoses 265.1 (WE), 291.1 and 294.0 (KP). Relevant clinical data were recorded on a specially designed form so that cases could be classified as confirmed or probable WE, confirmed or probable KP, confirmed or probable Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome (WE + KP) or not WE or KP. The average number of cases of WE + KP was 38 acute (new) cases and 69 total (acute+chronic) cases per annum for all the hospitals combined.Results:This study used the same methods as our earlier retrospective examination of Wernicke–Korsakoff cases in essentially the same hospitals for 1978–93. Records for 1993 were thus pulled twice and, while individual cases (using hospital index number) did not always coincide, the total numbers for 1993 were 69 and 70.For the 5 years after 1991 the number of acute cases of WE and KP in Sydney hospitals was 61% of the number for the 5 years before 1991 (P<0.01). There is, however, no continuing downward trend.Conclusions:These results are consistent with a 40% reduction of the incidence of acute WE and KP since bread has been enriched with thiamin. The disease complex has, however, not been eliminated. To achieve this, further public health action would be needed, such as addition of thiamin to beer.

A field experiment on influence of sulphur and potassium levels on yield and yield attributes of sesame was conducted in Agronomy Research Farm, University of Agriculture Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during Kharif season, 2017. Varying levels of sulphur (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha-l) and potassium (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha-l) were applied to experimental plots. The results revealed that sesame significantly responded to the application of sulphur and potassium up to 50 kg ha-l for growth, quality, yield and yield attributes of sesame. The taller plant (76.83 cm), maximum number of branches per plant (3.87), more number of capsules per plant (43.82), more number of seeds per capsules (59.36), maximum seed yield (673 kg ha-1), maximum stover yield (1078 kg ha-1), more oil content (48.76 %) and maximum oil yield (291.7 kg ha-1) were noticed where 50 kg ha-1 sulphur treated. On the contrary taller plant (76.97 cm), maximum number of branches per plant (3.93), more number of capsules per plant (42.77), more number of seeds per capsules (59.36), maximum seed yield (617 kg ha-1), maximum stover yield (1043 kg ha-1), more oil content (48.65 %) and maximum oil yield (286.6 kg ha-1) were recorded from 50 kg ha-1 potassium treatments.Res. Massive hemorrhage remains an important clinical problem in extracapsular resection of giant liver hemangiomas (GLHs), especially for those involving the proximal hepatic veins and/or inferior vena cava. Between July 2004 and March 2012, 87 patients with a complex GLH scheduled for surgical treatment were included in this study. All patients were underwent vascular preparation (Step 1), advanced hepatic artery clamping (Step 2), and stepwise vascular occlusion (Step 3). Intraoperative blood loss, blood transfusion volume, degree of ischemia–reperfusion injury, and postoperative complications were recorded. No patients required urgent vascular preparation to manage intraoperative bleeding. In total, 87, 64, and 21 patients had portal triad (PT), infra-hepatic inferior vena cava (IVC), and suprahepatic IVC preparation; and 17, 43, and 11 patients had PT, PTand suprahepatic IVC, and all three (PT, infra-, and suprahepatic IVC) occlusions. The PT, infrahepatic IVC, and SIVC occlusion times were 12.1 ± 3.7 minutes, 7.9 ± 2.4 minutes, and 3.2 ± 1.4 minutes, respectively. Mean blood loss was 291.9 ± 124.5 mL, and only four patients received blood transfusions. No patients had life-threatening complications or died (Clavien-Dindo Grade 4, 5). Compared with paralleled studies, this technique has an advantage to decrease the blood loss in less liver ischemia time. For complex GLH resections, the described step-by-step vascular control technique was efficacious and feasible for controlling intraoperative bleeding.

A simple and rapid difference spectroscopic method was developed for the simultaneous determination of binary mixture of norfloxacin (NF) and tinidazole (TZ) without prior separation. The proposed method depends upon measuring the absorbance of NF at 291.6 nm which is the zero crossing point on the difference spectra of TZ in 0.1 N NaOH vs. 0.1 N HCl. Similarly, the absorbance of TZ was measured at 344.4 nm which is the zero crossing point on the difference spectra of NF. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range of 2-20 and 5-50 µg/mL for NF and TZ, respectively. The lower limits of detection (LOD) of NF and TZ are 0.23 and 0.36 µg/mL, respectively, while the lower limits of quantification (LOQ) of NF and TZ were 0.70 and 1.08 µg/mL, respectively. The precision of the method was satisfactory; the maximum value of relative standard deviations did not exceed 1.5% (n=10). The accuracy, expressed as recovery is between 98.25 and 101.8% with relative error of 0.29 and 0.23 for NF and TZ, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of both drugs in bulk powder, laboratory prepared mixture and commercial dosage forms such as tablets without interference from the commonly encountered excipients and additives. The results obtained are in good agreement with those obtained by the reference methods.

Banyaknya persimpangan di kota besar seperti Yogyakarta terlebih pada simpang dengan jarak yang terlalu dekat seperti pada Simpang Wirobrajan dan Simpang Ngabean, membuat kendaraan terkadang berhenti pada setiap simpang dikarenakan sinyal merah. Perlu dilakukan perhitungan Simpang Wirobrajan dan Simpang Ngabean dan menerapkan simpang bersinyal terkoordinasi untuk mengurangi tundaan dan panjang antrian. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan cara survei langsung di kedua simpang pada jam sibuk pagi, siang, dan sore. Survey pengambilan data dilakukan pada tanggal 4, 5 dan 10 November 2020. Data yang diambil ialah data geometrik jalan, waktu sinyal, volume lalu lintas, dan kecepatan tempuh kendaraan yang melalui kedua simpang. Data yang didapatkan digunakan dalam memperoleh kondisi eksisting terjenuh untuk menjadi acuan dalam perecanaan waktu siklus baru dengan memperhatikan teori koordinasi simpang. Analisis kinerja simpang menggunakan metode Manual Kapasitas Jalan Indonesia (1997) dan Teori Maksimasi Green Bandwidth. Dari hasil survei diketahui bahwa kedua simpang belum terkoordinasi. Dari enam perencanaan didapatkan waktu sinyal baru sebesar 163 detik, dengan offset sebesar 24 detik. Sedangkan dengan Teori Maksimasi Green Bandwidth didapatkan 38 detik untuk arah Timur dan 39 detik untuk arah Barat. Nilai kinerja rata-rata pada arus utama yang dikoordinasikan berupa derajat kejenuhan (DS) sebesar 0,94, panjang antrian (QL) sebesar 291.5 meter, dan tundaan sebesar 120 detik. Setelah dilakukan perencanaan koordinasi antar simpang memiliki nilai rata-rata untuk derajat kejunuhan (DS) memiliki nilai sebesar 0,88, panjang antrian (QL) 238 meter, dan tundaan sebesar 79.68 detik pada arus utama yang dikoordinasikan

A new adsorbent (egg-shell treated oil palm fronds (EG-OPF)) prepared from wastes was evaluated for methylene blue (MB) removal. Optimization among three significant variables (initial concentration (X1), initial pH (X2), and adsorbent dosage (X3)) were executed using response surface methodology (RSM). The most excellent performance was marked at X1 = 291.7 mg/L, X2 = pH 5, and X3 = 1.82 g/L, with MB removal of 80.26 %. The kinetic study was fitted perfectly with the pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.990), indicating the chemisorption process. The isotherm study was found to follow the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.999), with maximal adsorption magnitude of 714.3 mg/g, implying the monolayer adsorption on a homogenous adsorbent surface. The reusability study affirmed the feasibility of EG-OPF in MB removal, credited to its excellent performance during reusability studies. Battery-type electrode materials have attracted much attention as efficient and unique types of materials for hybrid battery supercapacitors due to their multiple redox states and excellent electrical conductivity. Designing composites with high chemical and electrochemical stabilities is beneficial for improving the energy storage capability of battery-type electrode materials. We report on an interfacial engineering strategy to improve the energy storage performance of a Co(OH)2-based battery-type material by constructing polypyrrole-assisted and Ag-doped (Ag-doped@Co(OH)2@polypyrrole) nanosheets (NSs) on a Ni foam using a hydrothermal process that provides richer electroactive sites, efficient charge transportation, and an excellent mechanical stability. Physical characterization results revealed that the subsequent decoration of Ag nanoparticles on Co(OH)2 nanoparticles offered an efficient electrical conductivity as well as a reduced interface adsorption energy of OH- in Co(OH)2 nanoparticles as compared to Co(OH)2@polypyrrole-assisted nanoparticles without Ag particles. The heterogeneous interface of the Ag-doped@Co(OH)2@polypyrrole composite exhibited a high specific capacity of 291.2 mAh g−1 at a current density of 2 A g−1, and showed a good cycling stability after 5000 cycles at 5 A g−1. The specific capacity of the doped electrode was enhanced approximately two-fold compared to that of the pure electrode. Thus, the fabricated Ag-doped@Co(OH)2@polypyrrole nanostructured electrodes can be a potential candidate for fabricating low-cost and high-performance energy storage supercapacitor devices.

Rasagiline mesylate (RM), an irreversible, selective inhibitor of MAO-B enzyme, is used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease as oral tablets. It has low oral bioavailability (36%) due to hepatic first pass metabolism. Oral route of administration is associated with nausea and vomiting. Hence present research work was aimed to develop intranasal RM- loaded mucoadhesive microemulsions for brain targeting via olfactory pathway. The microemulsions were developed using Box Behnken design and evaluated for globule size, PDI, Zeta potential, pH, viscosity and ex vivo permeation on excised porcine nasal mucosa. Based on drug solubility, Capmul MCM, Tween 20 and Transcutol P were selected as oil, surfactant and cosurfactant respectively. Microemulsions were prepared by water titration method. Pseudoternary phase diagrams were constructed and the levels of surfactants, oil were selected. The influence of independent variables such as oil, Smix and water on responses size, zeta potential and flux were studied with the help of polynomial equations, contour plots and 3D response surface plots generated by design expert software. Optimized microemulsion formulation (ME18) was composed of oil (Capmul MCM), Smix (Tween 20: Transcutol P; 1:1), water and drug in the ratio 5:42:65:5.The globule size, zeta potential and flux of the optimized microemulsion was 150 nm, -29.6 mV and 291.7 μg/cm2/h respectively. Mucoadhesive agent (Chitosan) was added at 0.5% concentration to optimized microemulsion formulation (MME18). The size, zeta potential and flux of the MME18 was 176.4 nm, 12.1 mV and 323.1 μg/cm2/h respectively. The flux of ME18 and MME 18 was significantly higher than drug solution. The enhancement ratio of MME 18 was 4.2 times to that of drug solution, indicating potential advantage of microemulsion formulation.

Objectives. We sought to assess acute changes in systemic and pulmonary hemodynamics and microscopic artery lesions following extended renal artery denervation (RDN). Background. RDN has been proposed to reduce sympathetic nervous system hyperactivation. Although the effects of RDN on systemic circulation and overall sympathetic activity have been studied, data on the impact of RDN on pulmonary hemodynamics is lacking. Methods. The study comprised 13 normotensive Landrace pigs. After randomization, 7 animals were allocated to the group of bilateral RDN and 6 animals to the group of a sham procedure (SHAM). Hemodynamic measures, cannulation, and balloon-based occlusion of the renal arteries were performed in both groups. In the RDN group, radiofrequency ablation was performed in all available arteries and their segments. An autopsy study of the renal arteries was carried out in both groups. Results. The analysis was performed on 12 pigs (6 in either group) since pulmonary thromboembolism occurred in one case. A statistically significant drop in the mean diastolic pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) was detected in the RDN group when compared with the SHAM group (change by 13.0 ± 4.4 and 10.0 ± 3.0 mmHg , correspondingly; P = 0.04 ). In 5 out of 6 pigs in the RDN group, a significant decrease in systemic systolic blood pressure was found, when compared with baseline ( 98.8 ± 17.8 vs. 90.2 ± 12.6 mmHg , P = 0.04 ), and a lower mean pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) ( 291.0 ± 77.4 vs. 228.5 ± 63.8 dyn ∗ sec ∗ c m − 5 , P = 0.03 ) after ablation was found. Artery dissections were found in both groups, with prevalence in animals after RDN. Conclusions. Extensive RDN leads to a rapid and significant decrease in PAP. In the majority of cases, RDN is associated with an acute lowering of systolic blood pressure and PVR. Extended RDN is associated with artery wall lesions and thrombus formation underdiagnosed by angiography.

The aim – to determine the long-term results and quality of life of patients who underwent David І valve-sparing operation.Materials and methods. The one-center study included 53 patients who underwent planned and urgent David I procedure (valve-sparing replacement of the aortic root and ascending aorta) from 2015 to 2023. The mean age of the 53 patients (among them, 47 (88.68 %) males) was 49.11 ± 1.54 years. We analyzed basic characteristics of the patients, intraoperative and postoperative data. The quality of life was assessed before and in the long-term period after operations by the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36 (MOS SF-36) questionnaire.Results and discussion. An average duration of the follow-up period was 2.59 ± 0.27 years ranging from 1.0 to 9.0 years. Overall in-hospital mortality and 30-day mortality was 1.89 % (n 1). Estimated 5-year survival rate was 95.7 ± 1.45 % for all patients. The average duration of the operations was 291.23 ± 12.67 minutes, the total duration of artificial blood circulation was 170.28 ± 8.77 minutes, aorta clamping time – 122.02 ± 5.92 minutes. The mean duration of stay in the hospital was 13.81 ± 0.54 days, intensive care unit – 2.94 ± 0.03 days. The number of patients extubated up to 8 hours after surgery was 48 patients (90.57 %). The performed operation significantly improved the indicators. Patients positively perceived the information about the absence of an artificial heart valve and need of concomitant use of anticoagulants. The patients had a good psycho-social component, which probably affected the assessment of other scales.Conclusions. Patients after David I operation have a low overall in-hospital mortality and 30-day mortality, with a short period of time in intensive care unit and hospital at all. Long-term results in indicator of 5-year survival are excellent. The operation significantly improves quality of life parameters.

<p>The levels of K, Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Pb, As, Cd, Cr, and Pb in commonly used medicinal herbs and their infusions by Lebanese were analyzed by EDXRF and ASS techniques, respectively. The order of metal contents in the herbs was found to be: K (6990-19850 ug/g) &gt; Ca(1630-14450 ug/g) &gt; Fe(80-3650 ug/g) &gt; Mn (28-458 ug/g) &gt; Zn (23-108 ug/g) &gt; Cu (5-71 ug/g) &gt; Cr (3.1-55 ug/g) Pb&gt; (1.1-10.3 ug/g) &gt; As (nd-10.8 ug/g) &gt; Cd (nd-1.7 ug/g). The mean levels of toxic metals in herbs Pb, As and Cd were below WHO permissible levels. Cluster analysis indicated metals are most probably in plants due to wastes disposal and irrigation with contaminated wastes and/or from atmospheric waste particulates. The levels of Mn, Cr, Pb and As in herbal infusions were found to be higher in soaked than boiled preparations and correlated with Fe, while Zn and Cu levels were higher in boiled infusions. The highest weekly intake from herbal infusions of toxic metals Cr (492.8 ug), As (77.0 ug), Pb (291.2 ug) and Cd (19.0 ug) were below the recommended permissible tolerable weekly intake respectively 1260 ug, 900 ug, 1500 ug, and 150 ug. Therefore, the consumption of these traditional medicinal herbs does not pose any health risk provided full compliance with recommended daily doses.<strong></strong></p>

Context: Erythrina senegalensis (ES) DC. is used traditionally in the management of various free radical-related diseases, including wound healing. Aims: To evaluate sequentially prepared leaf extracts of ES for the ability to protect against oxidative stress in fibroblasts and macrophages. Methods: Sequential extracts were prepared using hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol and water in increasing polarity. Chemical profiling was done with ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). Cytotoxic potential was determined using the sulforhodamine B staining assay, phase contrast, PlasDIC, and live/dead staining microscopy. The ability to scavenge the ABTS and DPPH free radicals was assessed, while the effect on AAPH-induced oxidative stress was evaluated by measuring reactive oxygen species (ROS) release. Results: A previously reported compound (neobavaisoflavone), and three others (kaempferol, rutin, and rotenone) were tentatively detected. With regards to cytotoxicity, no IC50 could be determined up to the highest concentration tested (100 µg/mL) in both THP-1 and SC-1 cells. The methanol extract displayed the greatest antioxidant activity against the free radicals (IC50 = 44.86 µg/mL [ABTS]; 291.1 µg/mL [DPPH]) and AAPH-induced intracellular ROS in macrophages (1.0-fold reduction at 100 µg/mL). The protective effect of the extracts (1 – 100 µg/mL) was comparable to the positive control (Trolox), which decreased ROS by 1.30-fold at 5 µg/mL. Conclusions: A significant ability to protect against oxidative stress was exhibited by extracts from ES, with no observed cytotoxicity. Secondary metabolites from the plant may have potential for use as alternative medicines in ROS-induced diseases such as chronic wounds.

Background: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a novel coronavirus that causes an infectious disease named coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Objectives: To test some biomarkers (Fibroblastic growth factor (FGF)-18, wingless-related integration site (WNT-5A), interleukin (IL)-17, and IL-33 to predict the severity of COVID-19. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study was done on 180 participants (90 healthy control and 90 COVID-19-positive patients) at the emergency units of the hospitals in four cities of Northern Iraq from July 01 to December 01, 2021. The obtained serum from collected blood was tested to determine IL-17, IL-33, FGF-18, and WNT-5 levels using the ELISA technique. Additionally, CRP concentration was measured using immunoturbidimetry on Cobas c311. Results: Regarding the sociodemographic data, most moderately infected patients were aged 46-64 years and were males (35.6%, 64.4%, respectively). The most severely infected patients were older than 65 years and were females (60%). The highest mean serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) (59.53±40.06 mg/dl), IL-17 (36.90±22.61 pg/ml), FGF-18 (179.8±291.37 pg/mL), IL-33 (248.11±506.71 pg/ml) were reported among the severely infected patients, while the highest mean serum level of WNT-5A was observed among moderately infected patients (5.03±5.73 ng/ml). Regarding the correlations between biomarkers, in moderately infected patients, a negative correlation between CRP and IL-33; CRP and IL-17 was observed, with a positive correlation between IL-33 and IL-17. Conversely, no correlations were seen between IL-33 and WNT-5 whereas correlations between IL-33 and IL-17 were seen in severely infected individuals. Simultaneously, a correlation between the patient’s body mass index (BMI) and CRP was detected. Conclusions: The disease was more severe among elderly, females, and overweight patients. All biomarkers, except WNT-5A, were significantly associated with the severity of COVID-19.

Describing the structure of quasicrystals embedded in n-dimensional superspace in principle takes advantage of n-dimensional periodicity to select the minimal set of degrees of freedom for the structure. The method of modelling of the atomic surfaces yielded the first fully detailed structure solution of this phase. Comparison with numerous former, less accurate models confirms several features already derived, but adds a new essential insight of the structure and its complexity. The atoms fill the space forming recurrent structure motifs, which we will (generically) refer to as clusters. However, no unique cluster exists, although differences are small. Each cluster shows a high degree of structural disorder. This gives rise to a large configurational entropy, as much as expected in a phase which is stable at high temperature. On the other side, the cluster spatial arrangement is perfectly quasiperiodic. These considerations, corroborated by analysis of the structural relationship with neighbouring periodic phases, strongly suggest the existence of a non-local, long-range interaction term in the total energy which may be essential to the stability.

Slaughterhouses are certified premises where animals are slaughtered and inspected to ensure meats are wholesome and safe for public consumption. To determine the common zoonoses encountered in a municipal slaughterhouse of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, a three-year retrospective study was conducted (2014–2016). During the review of slaughterhouse records, the overall throughput of cattle slaughtered was 146,794 (4077.6 ± 413.6; 95% confidence interval [CI] 3923.3–4206.7). Female animal slaughtering outweighed male ones at 5:1 ratio (p < 0.0001). The highest number of cattle were slaughtered in December 2014, December 2015, and August 2016. Of all the total cattle slaughtered, the overall observed prevalences for bovine tuberculosis (BTB), hydatidosis and fasciolosis were estimated as 9514 (6.5%, 264.3 ± 81.7; 95% CI 236.6–291.9), 1851 (1.3%, 55.8 ± 17.3; 95% CI 49.9–61.6) and 845 (0.6%, median = 19.0; 95% CI 18.7–28.3), respectively. On average the highest number of BTB cases was reported in February-March, it declined slightly in October and increased again in November. Similarly, the highest numbers of hydatidosis and fasciolosis were observed in March and February, respectively. A significant (p = 0.02) mean variation of cases of BTB was found across the period and it was higher (p = 0.03) during the wet/rainy season in 2015. Our results emphasized the need to promote coordinated active surveillance for zoonoses detection and mitigation to ensure food safety at farm and slaughterhouse levels. Adequate record keeping for specific organ/meat/carcass condemnation is crucial at postmortem, as this represents a significant loss of animal proteins and revenues. Such data can be used for informed policy to intensify reduction in economic loss associated with animal diseases.

Thin Wall Ductile Irons (TWDI) are viable material option in the automotive industry due of their good castability, adequate mechanical properties, wear resistance, good machinability and fatigue properties. However due to size reduction and increased cooling rate, carbide precipitates occur in the as-cast microstructure of TWDIs, impacting negatively on mechanical properties, nodularity and nodule count. Heat treatment processes that reduce or eliminate these carbide phases can be adopted to remedy such defects. In this study, 4 mm TWDI samples cast in green sand moulds, showing carbide precipitation in microstructure were subjected to an Annealing heat treatment by austenizing to 920oC and varying soaking times of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes, afterwards they were cooled in the furnace to room temperature. Microstructural analysis and mechanical property tests were carried out in all the samples via Optical microscopy (OM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), hardness and tensile tests. Microstructure of heat-treated samples showed significant reduction of carbide precipitates in comparison with their as cast counterpart. It was observed that the soaking time impacted on carbide precipitation reduction. Hardness values reduced from 291.6 Hv in the as cast sample to 247.8 Hv and 243.5 Hv for samples soaked for 25 and 30 minutes respectively, whereas tensile strength reduced progressively from 596 MPa to 544 MPa for as cast to 30 minutes soaking time respectively. Percent elongation increased from 4.3 % elongation for the as cast sample to 8.7 % elongation in the sample with soaking time of 30 minutes at 920 oC. This study has shown that carbide precipitation can be significantly reduced by adopting the annealing treatment parameters outlined above.

In this study, the antioxidant potential of peptide fractions isolated from the Tra catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) by-product-derived hydrolysate using ultrafiltration centrifugal devices with 3 distinct molecular-weight cutoffs (MWCOs) of 5KDa, 10KDa, and 30KDa was investigated. Firstly, the chemical composition of the Tra catfish byproducts was analyzed. The result showed that the Tra catfish by-products contained 58.5% moisture, 33.9% crude protein, 50.1% crude lipid and 15.8% ash (on dry weight basis). Secondly, the effects of enzyme content, hydrolysis time on the antioxidant activity of the hydrolysate were studied using DPPH• (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging method (DPPH• SM), and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant potential) method. Flavourzyme® 500 MG was used for hydrolysis. The result revealed that the antioxidant activity of the proteolysate reached the peak when the hydrolysis time was 3h, enzyme/substrate (E/S) ratio was 25 U/g protein, hydrolysis temperature was 500C, pH was 7, and the degree of hydrolysis (DH) of the hydrolysate reached 37.4%. Next, the proteolysate was further fractionated using MWCOs of 5KDa, 10KDa, and 30KDa and the peptide fractions were investigated for their antioxidant activity. The result showed that the <5KDa fraction showed strongest antioxidant activity with the 50% DPPH• inhibition concentration (IC50) of 3079.34±75.29 μg/mL and FRAP value of 611.28±4.5 μM Trolox equivalent. The second strongest fraction was 5-10KDa with the IC50 and FRAPS value of 4709.3 ± 222.22 μg/mL and 323.62±2.54 μM Trolox equivalent, respectively. The 10-30KDa fraction showed weakest antioxidant capacity with the IC50 of 5847.73 ± 128.68 μg/mL and FRAP value of 291.4±2.65 μM Trolox equivalent. The antioxidant peptides derived from Tra catfish by-products proteolysate have the potential to be used as natural antioxidant ingredients in pharmaceutical and food industry.

Vitamin A deficiency is common in Kenya; it has been reported among populations that depend on cassava as their main staple. Clonal evaluation of 324 locally developed yellow-fleshed cassava clones was carried out in two sites, Thika and Kiboko located in central and eastern Kenya respectively. Data was collected on agronomic performance, yield quality and reaction to biotic constraints. The clones rated well for the evaluated traits. The overall performance was better in Kiboko than Thika. Cassava Mosaic Disease, Cassava Brown Streak Disease (CBSD) and Cassava Green Mite (CGM) severity was scored on a scale of 1-5. The mean CBSD score was 1.17 in Kiboko and 1.46 in Thika, CMD severity was 1.15 in Kiboko but the disease was not observed at Thika. The CGM damage severity was 1.63 in Kiboko and 1.97 in Thika. The weight of roots per plant was 3.49 and 2.25 kg at Kiboko and Thika respectively. The dry, matter content of the roots was 49.86% at Kiboko and 29.06 at Thika. The cyanogenic potential was assessed using the pictrate test and rated on a scale of 1-9 and Kiboko had a score of 2.79 compared to 4.14 in Thika. A total of 91 samples were analyzed for carotenoid content using the spectrophotometry method. The Kiboko site had a higher mean carotenoid content (1736.96 &micro;g/100 g) compared to Thika (1105.85 &micro;g/100 g). Most of the samples (71%) analyzed had recorded a higher carotenoid content in Kiboko than Thika. The beta-carotene content was higher in Thika (374.16 &micro;g/100 g) than Kiboko (291.30 &micro;g/100 g). Promising clones adaptable to the two sites were identified.

In the present study, a sensitive and fully validated bioanalytical high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method has been developed for the quantitative determination of three newly synthesized carbonic anhydrases inhibitors (CAIs) with potential antitumor activity in human plasma. The analytes and the internal standard (IS) were extracted using 1.5 mL acetonitrile from only 450 µL aliquots of human plasma to achieve the desired protein precipitation. Chromatographic separations were achieved on Phenomenex Kinetex® C18 column (100 × 4.6 mm, 2.6 µm) using a binary gradient elution mode with a run time of less than 6 min. The mobile phase consisted of solvent (A): 0.1% formic acid in 50% methanol and solvent B: 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile (30:70, v/v), pumped at a flow rate of 0.8 mL/min. Detection was employed using triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer (API 3500) equipped with an electrospray ionization (ESI) source in the positive ion mode. Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode was selected for quantitation through monitoring the precursor-to-parent ion transition at m/z 291.9 → 173.0, m/z 396.9 → 225.1, m/z 388.9 → 217.0, and m/z 146.9 → 91.0 for AW-9a, WES-1, WES-2, and Coumarin (IS), respectively. Linearity was computed using the weighted least-squares linear regression method (1/x2) over a concentration range of 1–1000, 2.5–800, and 5–500 ng/mL for AW-9a, WES-1, and WES-2; respectively. The bioanalytical LC-MS/MS method was fully validated as per U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines with all respect to linearity, accuracy, precision, carry-over, selectivity, dilution integrity, and stability. The proposed LC-MS/MS method was applied successfully for the determination of all investigated drugs in spiked human plasma with no significant matrix effect, which is a crucial cornerstone in further therapeutic drug monitoring of newly developed therapeutic agents.

Plaque psoriasis is a common, long-lasting illness that affects the immune system and causes significant negative impacts on a patient’s physical health, well-being, and ability to work effectively. Deucravacitinib (DEU) is the first oral medication used in the treatment of plaque psoriasis, a chronic skin condition that causes red, scaly patches on the skin. DEU is a type of medication called an oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor, which works by blocking specific enzymes that play a role in the inflammation and immune response associated with psoriasis. Therefore, a quick, easy, novel, reliable, sensitive, and straightforward liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) approach was used to analyze DEU in plasma samples. The LC-MS/MS method for the determination of DEU in human plasma was based on using trimethoprim as an internal standard (IS). The separation of DEU and IS was carried out via liquid–liquid extraction (LLE). The extract was then subjected to the chromatographic system separation using the ACE-C18 column (4.6 × 100 mm, 5 µm). The mobile phase employed consisted of methanol and a solution of 2 mM ammonium formate (80:20 v/v, respectively). The flow rate used was set at 0.9 mL min−1. The creative strategy was performed by running an ABSCIEX API 4000 mass spectrometer with an electron spray ionization source in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. The ion transitions m/z 426.3 → 358.2 were used for DEU quantitation, while the ion transitions m/z 291.1 → 261.1 were used for trimethoprim quantitation. The accuracy, precision, linearity, recovery, and selectivity of DEU were deemed acceptable when validated for a concentration range between 0.500 and 601.050 ng/mL, utilizing a weighting factor of 1/x2.

Amphimelissa setosa is at present a species endemic to the Arctic province: the Arctic Ocean proper and its marginal seas. In the North Pacific Ocean and the Okhotsk Sea, its first occurrence was at 1.03 Ma and it became locally extinct at 72 ka. Its first recorded occurrence in the North Atlantic is at IODP Site U1314 at 414 ka in MIS 11, which is much older than previously documented by Matul and Abelmann (2005). This earlier first occurrence suggests that its migration from the North Pacific took place during MIS 11, with a higher sea-level stand than at present. The stratigraphic distribution of A. setosa shows seven peak occurrences: at 383.3 ka in MIS 11 (11.9%), 347.1 ka (64.6%) in MIS 10, at 319.2 ka (12.1%) in MIS 9, 291.1 ka (16.4%) near base in MIS 8, at 74.4 ka (8.1%) inMIS 5a, at 53.7 ka (18.2%) in MIS 3, and at 21.1 ka (48.2%) in MIS 2, the two major peaks corresponding with glacial maxima. The prominent abundance peaks at MIS 10 and MIS 2 clearly reflect the southward penetration of the Arctic front. On the other hand, A. setosa is very rare or absent in the upper part of MIS 8 and during most of MIS 5.We suggest that during the upper part of MIS 8, A. setosa is not observed because of considerably lower biogenic silica. Its near absence during MIS 6 may be the result of relatively warmer oceanographic conditions in this glacial period without a significant southward migration of the polar front. Finally, morphometric analyses of A. setosa at the abundance peaks in MIS 10 and MIS 2 indicate that the specimens occurring in MIS 10 are somewhat, but significantly larger than those occurring in MIS 2 with also a slight difference in shape.

Glaciers, known as solid reservoirs, are important water supply sources in northwest China. In this paper, mineral dust collected from a Chinese alpine mining area (Beizhan iron mine) and an ice cube (with a 225 cm2 section and a volume of 1000 mL) were employed via a delicate physical experiment to study the ablation of glaciers covered by mineral dust in alpine regions. After that, the ablation mechanism was revealed using the energy conservation theory. The main findings are as follows: (1) When the solar radiation intensity is 993 W/m2, the glacier ablation rate increases by 13.9% (from 282 to 321.2 mL/h) as the mineral dust coverage rate increases from 0% to 42.7%. (2) When the mineral dust coverage rate remains at 30%, the glacier ablation rate increases by 11.6% (from 291.8 to 325.78 mL/h) as the solar radiation intensity increases from 1007 to 1153 W/m2. (3) When the solar radiation intensity and mineral dust coverage rate remain unchanged, the ablation rate of the glacier covered by the mineral dust inversely increases with the dust particle size. The ablation rates of the particle size gradings C, B, and A (the dust particle sizes of gradings A, B, and C in 0.0375–0.075 mm, 0.075–0.125 mm, and 0.125–0.25 mm accounted for 5%:50%:45%, 30%:40%:30%, and 70%:30%:0%, respectively) were 293.4, 301.2, and 305.6 mL /h, respectively, and the corresponding ablation rates increased by 2.7% and 1.5%. (4) The smaller the average particle size of the mineral dust, the greater the contribution to the ablation rate; a 1 °C temperature increase to the glacier ablation rate is equivalent to 29.1%, 33.6%, and 40.6% increases in dust coverage for particle size classes C, B, and A. (5) The mineral dust covering the glacier surface could not only reduce the reflectivity of the glacier surface to solar radiation but could also continuously transfer the absorbed radiant energy and its own chemical energy to the glacier body, accelerating the glacier’s meltwater speed. The findings of this paper can provide the necessary theoretical basis for mineral dust control and glacier water conservation in alpine mining areas.
