Abstract (sommario):

In the period from 1948 to 1970 urban housing architecture in Yugoslavia had a distinctly experimental character as it strived intensively towards research and establishment of new architectural patterns and values that would mark the period of economic growth of the country. In conditions of mass housing construction, initiated by the devastated urban housing fund after the Second World War, significant influx of population to towns and the state directed its socialist aspirations at alloting every family acceptable living space. The period of the so-called ?directed housing construction?, whose imperative was to establish the limits of existential minimum in collective housing, maximal space ?packing? and optimal functionality of flats, at the same time represents the most significant period in the development of housing architecture in Yugoslavia. The architects focused their interests in housing in mainly three directions: a) the creation and application of new prefabrication systems, b) innovative application of modernistic patterns in aestheticization of architecture and c) experimenting with space units which will enable a higher level of privacy in high-density housing conditions. The first direction of research emerged in the context of post-war housing construction of a wide scope, which encouraged the advance of technological research in areas of prefabrication and practical application of achieved results on the whole territory of Yugoslavia. The second direction dealt with architectural planning which was strictly subordinated to social and ideological sphere with domineering socialist monumentalism and artistic and sculptural approach to architecture. The third was related to experimental tendency with new urban housing patterns which aimed to search and find more pragmatic, humane solutions within mass high-density housing constructions which were the first to utilize and show examples of ?double-tract? buildings. These were primarily realized in Serbia, as continuation of tendencies first expressed in activities of ?Belgrade School of Housing?.

En 1948, la commune de Saint-Moritz accueille les Jeux olympiques d’hiver alors qu’elle se trouve en situation de banqueroute financière. Situation probablement unique dans l’histoire, elle s’intègre pourtant dans une dynamique locale de promotion d’un domaine skiable, porté à la fois par des velléités d’organisation de compétitions internationales de ski alpin et de développement d’infrastructures (notamment des remontées mécaniques) toujours plus centrales pour la pratique du ski de descente et le tourisme au sens large. Dans le cadre de cette contribution, notre ambition est de mettre à jour autour des Jeux olympiques de 1948, mais aussi plus largement des années 1930 aux années 1970, l’histoire locale de l’avènement d’une quête (globale) de l’or blanc.

He moved on to senior positions in industry as a scientific advisor, first to British Celanese and then to British Petroleum, retiring in 1970.

Esta pesquisa de história ambiental se limita ao município de Engenheiro Beltrão, Paraná, no período de 1948, início da colonização dirigida, até 1970. Foi utilizada a metodologia de história oral, sendo elaboradas 37 entrevistas. O objetivo principal é entender como agricultores se apropriaram e representaram a floresta.

Abstract (sommario):

The sown wheat acreage in Israel increased from less than 40 000 ha in 1948 to more than 100 000 ha in the seventies and has declined slightly since that time. About 3/4 of the crop are grown in the central part of the country, mostly rain fed, with precipitation of 250–500 mm. The cultivation of durum wheat, originally dominant, has declined since the sixties to a small percentage of the wheat acreage and durum wheat breeding is thus negligible. Local bread wheat breeding started around 1960 independently at three breeding organisations, one of which extensively used genetic material from international breeding programs in Mexico. Since the fifties about 25 cultivars have been released, but only a few are of economic importance now. Breeding considerably increased the yielding potential of cultivars. The recent top cultivar Galil yields about twice as much as cv. Florence Aurore, the leading cultivar in 1970. The national average grain yield rose from 900 kg/ha in 1948 to recently 2.3 t/ha. The highest on-farm yields under favourable conditions are about 9 t/ha. An increasing proportion of the wheat acreage is used for silage, reaching now more than 25%. Yearly fluctuations of yield are considerable and are closely related to rainfall. Data also show an improvement in water utilisation by the crop during the analysed period. The domestic production covered originally only about 12% of the consumption, reaching 47% in the decade 1970–1979, but declined again due to the population growth from 1.2 to 6.5 millions.

We analyzed the spatial distribution and temporal dynamics of 1083 forest fires within the Ilmensky Reserve (Southern Urals, Russia) over 1948–2014. We observed a significant increase in the number of forest fires over the studied period, with the locations of the most frequently burned sections of the reserve changing over time. The average number of fires over the whole period increased by a factor of 1.9; there were 0.41 fires per compartment per 10 years in 1948–1970, there were 0.58 fires per compartment per 10 years in 1971–1990, and there were 0.77 fires per compartment per 10 years in 1991–2014. In parallel, the spatial pattern of ignitions became more aggregated. The fire frequency increased across the reserve, with the most pronounced change being observed along the reserve borders. Human-related fires dominate the modern fire activity within the Ilmensky Reserve, which is modulated by the local conditions.

The ideas of the founding fathers of the Austrian school and of their initial followers had influenced the development of the Czech economic thought very strongly before 1948. After this year the tradition was forcibly interrupted, but it had not been dismantled completely. Students of some Czech Universities could obtain information on the existence of Austrian school in courses of “history of economic theories”, even in totalitarian state. At the beginning of the period of 1948 – 1989 the predominant form was the critique of Austrian doctrine. In 1970’s the situation began to change and the positive form of interpretation was predominating. The objective of this paper consists of a quest for answers to two questions. Firstly, how these courses of “history of economic thought” look, and how did they develop in time? Secondly, what parts of these courses were dedicated to the ideas of Austrian school?

Six mite species of the genus Leptotrombidium Nagayo, Miyagawa, Mitamura and Imamura, 1916 and one species from each of the genera Lorillatum Nadchatram, 1963 and Trombiculindus Radford, 1948, incompletely described by Schluger et al. (1960b, 1963) from rodents and tree shrews in North Vietnam, are re-described based on type series. Lectotypes and paralectotypes have been designated for all redescribed species. Two new synonyms have been established: Leptotrombidium magnum (Schluger, 1960) (= Leptotrombidium dooleyi Nadchatram, 1970, syn. nov.; = Leptotrombidium submagnum Wang, Li and Shi, 1988, syn. nov.).

The silurian graptoloid genus Globosograptus was erected by Boucek and Přibyl (in Přibyl 1948, p. 37), who selected as type species Monograptus wimani Bouček, 1932. As noted by Bulman and Rickards in the Treatise (Bulman 1970, p. V155), Globosograptus “was based on the silhouette appearance of a slender Llandovery species on which the thecae possess a long prothecal portion, no thecal overlap, and a seemingly enrolled methathecal portion. The nature of this enrollment is indefinite … The genus has no precise significance and its application is quite impracticable.”

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo discutir diferentes modalidades traumáticas na construção da civilização soviética e do “novo” homo sovieticus por meio de quatro testemunhos de gerações variadas: Aleksandr Soljenítsyn (1918-2008), Liudmila Petruchévskaia (1938-?), Svetlana Aleksiévitch (1948-?) e Alex Halberstadt (1970-?). Na pena desses escritores, os “grandes fatos” estão subsumidos nas histórias individuais e coletivas: nos corpos dos zeks, das famílias, das mulheres, dos jovens, das etnias e, por último, na memória comunista daqueles que acreditavam e foram surpreendidos pelo fim, os chamados, pejorativamente, de sovok.

British shipbuilding enjoyed undisputed international supremacy between 1890 and 1914. Following a gradual loss of world market share during the interwar years, Britain sustained an absolute decline in output between 1948 and 1970. European shipbuilding expanded at an unprecedented rate after World War II. This article attributes Britain's dramatic competitive decline in part to management's uncertaintly about the need to reform work administration methods during the decade or so following world War II, and in part to lack of trust between labor and management, which resulted in a failure of cooperation over proposed institutional reform between 1958 and 1965.

I was introduced to sourcebooks as an undergraduate in the 1960s. At that time, the most frequently used were A. M. Nagler's A Sourcebook in Theatrical History (1952), Toby Cole's Directors on Directing (1963), and Toby Cole and Helen Chinoy's Actors on Acting (1948). These books first introduced me to the process of theatre history, and as I believe it is important to introduce this process to students, I continued to use both Nagler and the Cole and Chinoy volume, which was expanded in 1970, in teaching theatre history.

Commission 42 began life as Photometric Double Stars in 1948 at the 7th General Assembly in Zurich, under the presidency of Zdenek Kopal. As early as 1961, then General Secretary Lukas Plaut recommended a merger between C42 and C26, Double Stars, one of the original 32 commissions going back to 1919-22 (first president Aitken, assistant director at Lick). C42 became Close Binary Stars in 1970, at the 14th GA in Brighton (the first one I attended). Table 1 shows the presidents of C42, and vice presidents, from when the office started, through the history of the Commission.

Administrative Decentralization and Local Autonomies The Constitution of 1948 gives a great importance to administrative decentralization under various forms ; it is even considered as one of the fundamental principles of the Republican State. But the implementation of these principles has been very slow. The regional reform, launched in 1970, has led to an important transfer of administrative powers to the regions, with a predominance of political upon administrative guidance. A reform of the organization and functions of other local authorities has had to wait until 1990. But there is a dramatic lack of reforms of ministerial departments and field services of state administration.

ABSTRACT: Palm Beach is known for its grand Mediterranean Revival estates. During the postwar period, the architecture of Palm Beach changed, which was especially evident on Everglades Island—a small island connected to Palm Beach. In the mid-twentieth century, ranch homes dominated the island’s architecture. This note chronicles the work of three Palm Beach architects: Marion Sims Wyeth (1889–1982), John L. Volk (1901–1984), and Henry Harding (1904–1984). These three architects designed fifteen residences on Everglades Island from 1948–1970. Their architectural records are archived at the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. This note demonstrates how architects of the ranch houses in Palm Beach incorporated Bermudian and Hawaiian influences. Numerous houses from this time period were eventually either altered or demolished due to the demand for larger more ostentatious residences, especially on Everglades Island where few of the original houses are extant.

Jis dėstė chirurgiją Vilniaus medicinos mokykloje ir dirbo Raudonojo Kryžiaus ligoninės Urologijos skyriuje, nuo 1979 m. – urologu Vilniaus universiteto Onkologijos institute. 1987 m. apgynė medicinos daktaro disertaciją. "Prostatos vėžio epidemiologija Lietuvoje". Nuo 1988 m. dirbo vyr. moksliniu bendradarbiu, o nuo 1997 m. – docentu. La communauté de Taizé suscite chez les protestants français, notamment auprès du pasteur et président Marc Boegner, pour le moins un étonnement et une interrogation. Elle divise les huguenots. Certains sont enthousiastes, d’autres sont intrigués ; enfin une forte proportion est franchement irritée par cette communauté monastique, avec des « frères » d’origine protestante, parfois pasteurs, qui semblent se rapprocher du catholicisme dans les années 1948-1970. Marc Boegner, engagé dans l’« exigence » œcuménique, découvre de mieux en mieux la « communauté », se rendant au moins six fois sur le colline de Taizé entre 1951 et 1966. Il s’étonne d’abord de ses « erreurs », de ses « maladresses » puis il se met à aimer Taizé, notamment via la spiritualité de frère Roger Schutz. Il est intéressant d’appréhender historiquement ce paradoxe : les polémiques des protestants français contre Taizé et l’enthousiasme final du président Boegner pour Taizé comme un « haut lieu du protestantisme français et international », une prophétie de l’unité retrouvée, œcuménique, et pour le dire dans une expression toute boegnérienne, une « grande grâce ». Des archives inédites permettent de suivre assez précisément cette relation de trente années, de 1940 à 1970, entre Taizé, les protestants français et Marc Boegner.

Exploro en este trabajo el diálogo que establece Claudia Posadas (1970) en su Liber scivias (2010) con una poesía de tema filosófico en la que se une mística y metafísica. Contra una tradición canónica en la que se borra el sujeto y se concede preeminencia al tiempo o al lenguaje, como en Muerte sin fin (1939) o en Canto a un dios mineral (1942) Posadas propone una estética disruptiva centrada en el sujeto y en su conciencia emocional. Esta perspectiva me permite replantear la imagen canónica que tenemos del poema filosófico en relación con otros ejercicios previos, como Apuntes para una declaración de fe (1948) de Rosario Castellanos.

Abstract The article examines the careers of German central bankers and the phenomenon of the revolving door in the first two postwar decades. It focuses on the personnel changes between central banking and politics resp. private banking and asks for the social structure of German central bankers, their training paths and changes in comparison to the Reichsbank era. Finally, the impact of recruitment practices on central bank policy will be outlined. The paper is based on the thesis that party-political orientation became significant for the rise of the presidents of the land central banks (Landeszentralbankpräsidenten) after 1945 and that relations to private banking were primarily evident in training, whereas such aspects were of secondary importance for central bank monetary policy.

O artigo propõe algumas reflexões acerca do erotismo, a partir do conceito de Georges Bataille (1987) e de fotografias produzidas ao longo da década de 1970 por Alvin Baltrop (1948-2004) em Nova York e por Miguel Ángel Rojas (1946-) em Bogotá. Ambos os artistas registraram encontros casuais entre homens gays e/ou bissexuais em espaços urbanos caracterizados pela prática de cruising. Suas poéticas, a partir das diferentes distâncias que instauram e da inscrição, mais ou menos evidente, da medialidade fotográfica nas imagens, não somente ajudam a vislumbrar as articulações entre o estético e o erótico, mas apontam para uma sublimação do erotismo subjacente ao distanciamento analítico, formulado e defendido em diversos âmbitos da cultura ocidental moderna.

Este artigo parte do conceito de cultura psicanalítica para promover o debate sobre a construção das subjetividades na década de 1970 nos Estados Unidos. Sistematizado pelo psicanalista Sérvulo Figueira, este conceito se refere à maneira como ideias vindas da psicanálise integraram esferas artísticas, publicitárias, jornalísticas, entre outras, influenciando e sendo influenciadas pela cultura de cada local onde foi apropriada. Esse fenômeno permitiu a construção de modos científicos e populares de interpretações acerca do sofrimento e da construção das subjetividades. O artigo direciona suas lentes à obra da artista estadunidense Aline Kominsky (1948-2022), publicada em meio aos debates sobre a revolução sexual dos anos 1970. A artista fez parte de uma geração que, inserida no contexto da contracultura, produziu e distribuiu histórias em quadrinhos que contestavam as normas sociais estabelecidas, o modelo de família nuclear patriarcal e reivindicava o afrouxamento das normas sexuais. A análise de sua obra, portanto, nos permite pensar as maneiras pelas quais a artista buscou em ideias psicanalíticas, as ferramentas ideais para contestar as instituições sociais, bem como construir propostas sobre novos modelos civilizacionais menos opressivos com base numa ressignificação da sexualidade.

Este trabalho apresenta a análise de propostas de escrita de dezesseis livros escolares de português publicados no período de 1930 a 2002, no Brasil. Descartando qualquer suposição de que a noção de gênero do discurso (BAKHTIN, 2016) tenha sido mobilizada como instrumento didático naqueles livros, as propostas são descritas com base no conteúdo temático, no estilo e na construção composicional, elementos do gênero de discurso utilizados como ferramentas teórico-metodológicas, aqui apresentadas na análise do livro Português para o ginásio, de Cretela (1948). O objetivo do trabalho foi determinar qual desses elementos é o mais enfatizado nos livros do período. Os resultados indicam que, entre 1930 e 1960, predominou a ênfase no conteúdo temático e, a partir de 1970, na construção composicional.

The OECD and International Migration. This article reviews the history of OEEC and OECD involvement in international migration since 1948. It describes change in migration patterns for this timeframe, OECD understanding of said change and the influence it attempted to exert on member country migration policies. This influence is analyzed in light of developments which proved very non-linear. A succinct overview of migration in the 1960’s and 1970’s points up the nature and origins of migration trends in this decade. Overlap between European and North American models is examined. The author argues for a coordinated response to migration manifest in OECD member countries despite differences of type and nature, and closes on a number of considerations applicable to comparative statistics.

Madrasah Islam Modern (MIM) Langsa, yang berdiri sejak tahun 1948 oleh Ismail Thayeb Paya Bujok 72 tahun yang lalu merupakan salah satu pendidikan moderen di pantai timur Aceh, yang terdiri atas 3 tingkatan tingkatan permulaan, menengah pertama dan menengah atas, dan telah banyak menyumbangkan konstribusi buat anak bangsa. Tujuannya selain berhasil mencetak kader-kader masyarakat/pemuda Islam dalam masyarakat, dan para alumninya berperan aktif sebagai tokoh kaliber terkenal dalam bidang pemerintahan/ militer, anggota parlemen dan tenaga pendidikan di Aceh, misalnya Alauddin AE (militer/Bupati Aceh Timur), Ibrahim Daud (guru/anggota Dewan dari fraksi Golkar dan Zainab AR anggota Dewan dari komisi PPP Kabupaten Aceh Timur), dan setelah dua dasawarsa MIM membuat kegiatan ulang tahun ke-22 tahun 1970 dengan sangat meriah, dan dihadiri tamu undang baik dari Aceh dan luar negeri. Permasalahannya dalam kajian ini sebagai berikut; (1) bagaimana berdirinya Madrasah Islam Modern Langsa sebagai pusat pengembangan pendidikan Islam?, (2) bagaimana rencana pengajaran Madrasah dan Tenaga Guru/Pelajar?, (3) bagaimana perkembangan Madrasah Islam Moderen Tahun 1948-1970?, (4) apa saja usaha dalam pembaharuan pendidikan agama Islam?, (5) bagaimana pembinaan sebagai angkatan muda dalam parlemen, pemerintah dan tenaga pendidikan?, dan (6) bagaimana kegiatan dan perayaan ulang tahun ke-22 Madrasah Islam Moderen?. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Sejarah Kritis mencakup empat tahapan; Heuristik yaitu mencari dan mengumpulkan berbagai jenis sumber baik primer maupun skunder yang diperlukan sesuai dengan tujuan penelitia, Kritik terhadap sumber-sumber baik kritik ekstern maupun instern guna menguji otentisitas dan kridebilitas apakah sumber asli atau palsu; Menginterpretasikan atau memunculkan berbagai fakta yang diperlukan dari sumber atau mengumpulkan fakta, dan Melakukan historiografi atau dengan cara merangkaikan dari peristiwa-peristiwa sejarah yang dijadikan sebuah tulisan sejarah/karya tulis. Hasilnya keberadaan MIM berhasil memperbaharui sistem pendidikan tradisional ke sistem persekolahan berdasarkan jenjang pendidikan yaitu permulaan (Ibtidaiyah/SD); menengah pertama (setara MTs/ SLTP), dan menengah atas (setara MA/SLTA). Alumni-alumni MIM sebagaian besar menjadi tokoh ilmuwan berkaliber terkenal dalam bidang pemerintahan, militer, anggota parlemen dan tokoh pemimpin masyarakat di Aceh.

Abstract Eastward-propagating interdecadal time-scale sea surface temperature (SST) winter anomalies have been shown to exist at the North Atlantic subpolar/subtropical gyre boundary. Heat flux and surface air temperature signatures of these anomalies are investigated using satellite- and ship-based SST observations and atmospheric reanalysis. Using bandpass filter analysis, retaining periods between 9 and 25 yr, a succession of coherent propagating SST anomalies is identified. The size, speed, propagation path, and decay characteristics of propagating anomalies detected during the period 1948–2002 are documented. The behavior of the propagations changes between the periods 1948–70 and 1970–2002. In the former period, SST anomalies propagated from the east coast of North America to the British Isles in ∼10 yr. The anomalies displayed a well-defined life cycle, growing in the western basin (west of 40°W) and decaying in the eastern basin. During the period 1970–2002, SST anomalies did not propagate deep into the eastern basin, but grew in the western basin and then ceased propagating. Oceanic anomalies have a comparable marked signature in surface sensible and latent heat fluxes and in surface air temperature. Winter surface heat flux anomalies act to amplify SST anomalies during the middle of their lifetimes, normally in the west-central Atlantic. At other times, heat flux anomalies are associated with decay of anomalies. Surface heat fluxes do not always act to cause propagation, and it is likely that other processes such as advection play a role in the propagation mechanism. North European winter surface air temperatures are raised or lowered by up to ±0.5°C over decadal time scales (∼1/3 of the total variation over the United Kingdom) when an SST anomaly reaches the eastern boundary. A variety of processes can cause SST variation on decadal time scales at the eastern boundary, but in the 1950s and 1960s the variability at these periods was the signature of features that had propagated across the Atlantic from the North American coast.

Abstract This article explores communists’ attitudes towards gender roles and sexuality in Britain and the Netherlands during the Cold War (ca. 1948‐1970). It looks at the changing roles of women in the communist movement in the public sphere, as well as the changes in practices of gender relations in the communist home—that is, the private sphere. This article, which is based on interviews with Dutch and British individuals raised in communist families, argues that communist children who were taught progressive theories while simultaneously witnessing traditional practices in the home were spurred to feminist thinking and so joined the movement in its early stages. In light of these findings, this article makes the case for the inclusion of communists in the vanguard of feminism in Britain and the Netherlands.

L’évolution du discours et de l’action sociale des oblats de Marie Immaculée au Chili entre 1948 et 1990 a été marquée par cinq moments particuliers: l’arrivée des oblats au Chili, le concile Vatican II, l’élection de Salvador Allende, la dictature d’Augusto Pinochet et la transition vers la démocratie. L’étude du contexte historique démontre que plus la contestation sociopolitique est forte dans le pays, plus la politisation des missionnaires est exacerbée. Si dans un premier temps, le conservatisme politique relatif du Chili va de pair avec une certaine orthodoxie de la mission, la période 1970-1973 marque une radicalisation de la vie politique chilienne qui mène à une politisation plus importante des missionnaires. La dictature freine cette politisation qui est par la suite faiblement relancée au moment de la transition vers la démocratie.
