Trata-se de uma abordagem a respeito de uma coleção dos objetos da comunidade do Caldeirão (1926-1936), que atualmente se encontra catalogada no acervo do Museu do Ceará. Estuda a cultura material a partir da trajetória de artefatos que foram utilizados como dispositivos de memória, em situações historicamente situadas. Sendo assim, entende-se que é necessário compreender a historicidade dos objetos, situando-os em campos de acordos e disputas que selecionam e defendem determinados usos do passado. Percebe-se, nessa perspectiva, que a coleção foi utilizada em conformidade com certas demandas que podem ser localizadas no decorrer do tempo.

The fauna of the genus Forelia collected in Russia currently includes six species: F. brevipes, F. diaphana (Croneberg, 1899), F. liliacea (Müller, 1776), F. mutata (Piersig, 1901), F. samarica Tuzovskij, 1997 and F. variegator (Koch, 1837) (Uchida 1936, Sokolow 1940, Tuzovskij 1997). The larvae are known in F. liliacea, F. variegator (Wainstein 1980) and F. samarica (Tuzovskij 1997). Larvae of the genus Forelia are abdominal parasites of chironomid Diptera (Kouwets & Davids 1984, Smit & Oliver 1986). The aim of this paper is to present the morphology of the previously unknown larva of F. brevipes and to give an identification key for larvae of the genus Forelia species known in Russia.

Estos dan a conocer la primera obra que el autor escribió y por la cual ganó el premio de poesía de la Academia Brasileira de Letras en 1936. Como el libro permaneció inédito hasta 1997, fue póstumamente que el autor fue conocido como un poeta en verso y no solo en prosa. Al publicar estos poemas, el traductor amplía el panorama que de la obra de Guimarães Rosa se tiene en el Perú y en Latinoamérica.

We describe the mass balance of Langjökull ice cap, Iceland, (∼920 km², ∼190 km³) during several time intervals of different climate conditions that span the 20th century until present. The elevation range of Langjökull is 460–1440 m a.s.l. with a zero mass balance equilibrium line altitude (ELA) of 1000 m (southern outlets). The mass balance of the ice cap has been observed in situ every year since 1996–1997 and also assessed from estimation of glacier volume changes by comparing series of elevation maps from: 1937, 1945–1946, 1986, 1997 and 2004. The glacier margin of the Little Ice Age maximum (LIA; ∼1890) was estimated from the location of end moraines. The difference between the 1997–2004 annnual specific net balance estimated by volume change and in situ measurements is negligible (∼5 cm w.e.). During the two warm periods 1936–1946 and 1997–2009 the mean mass balance was similar; -1.6 and −1.3 m w.e. yr$^{−1}$, respectively. The colder climate during 1946–1986 and cooler yet in 1986–1997 resulted in specific mass balance close to zero; −0.3 and −0.2 m w.e. yr$^{−1}$, respectively.

Species of the genus Lythrum Linnaeus (1753: 446) (Lythraceae) occur in temporary pools and wetlands (Morris, 2007) with about 35 species around the world (Graham, 2007). In the Mediterranean area, there are more than 10 species that mostly occur in temporary pools (Castroviejo Bolibar et al., 1997; Tison et al. 2014). Most of the species are also present in East and Central Asia (Webb, 1968). However, some species are limited to Europe, mostly Western Europe, e.g. L. flexuosum Lagasca (1816: 16) and L. baeticum González-Albo (1936: 141) (Castroviejo Bolibar et al., 1997), some are limited to West Asia, e.g. L. silenoides Boissier & Noë (in Boissier 1856: 55) (Ghazanfar, 2016), while Lythrum salicaria Linnaeus (1753: 446), the loosestrife, is widely distributed in Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and introduced in North America.

Greenwich Dunes, Prince Edward Island National Park, is a sandy mainland and barrier spit beach–dune complex stretching for about 10 km along the northeast shore of Prince Edward Island, Canada. In October 1923, surge associated with an intense storm produced catastrophic overwash along the whole length of the study area. Subsequent evolution of the system was quantified from historic aerial photographs taken in 1936, 1953, 1971, 1997, and 2005. Orthophoto mosaics were generated for each photo set using PCI Geomatica OrthoEngine, a digital photogrammetric software. Linear changes in shoreline position and areal changes in geomorphic units were evaluated for each photo set. In addition, digital elevation models (DEMs) were extracted from the 1953, 1971, and 1997 aerial photos, enabling analysis of topographic and volumetric changes. The 1936 photos show complete destruction of all foredunes, with overwash and transgressive dunes extending 300 to 600 m inland. A descriptive model of the stages of evolution of the system is proposed based on the processes controlling overwash healing and dune stabilization. Detailed topographic and volumetric changes associated with the development of an extensive transgressive dunefield and subsequent stabilization as a result of reduced sand supply due to the growth of a new vegetated foredune complex and vegetation colonization are doccumented for each stage. It was nearly 40 years before a continuous foredune system was re-established and a further 30 years before the inland transgressive dunes became completely stabilized.

В статье рассматриваются основные вехи творческого пути одного из известных казахских ученых – археолога, доктора исторических наук, профессора, академика Академии истории и общественных наук Сайдена Жолдасбаевича Жолдасбаева (1936–2021). После окончания университета в 1963 г., С.Ж. Жолдасбаев сначала работал в научно-исследовательском институте, затем в университете преподавателем, доцентом, профессором, заведующим кафедрой, директором Научно-исследовательского центра. Он одним из первых в Казахстане организовал экспедицию по палеоэтнографическим исследованиям. С. Жолдасбаев провел исследования на, более чем 250 зимовках, а также раскопки около 400 усадеб. В центре его внимания был археологический материал ХV–ХVІІІ вв. В 1975 г. успешно защитил кандидатскую диссертацию, в 1997 г. – докторскую. В результате исследовательской работы было написано 10 монографий, 34 учебника и более 300 научных, научно-популярных статей. Посвятив всю свою жизнь археологии и этнологии, С. Жолдасбаев изучал материальную и духовную культуру казахского позднего средневековья: городское строительство, стационарное домостроение, хозяйство и ремесла, обычаи и традиции. К статье приложен список основных публикаций С.Ж. Жолдасбаева – автора многочисленных научных статей, монографий и учебников.

Abstract This article explores the figure of John Calhoun in two movies, The Gorgeous Hussy (1936), directed by Clarence Brown, and Amistad (1997), directed by Steven Spielberg. In both these movies, John Calhoun’s character had very few but significant scenes that portrayed him as one of those having moral responsibility for the forthcoming Civil War. This representation is in line with the traditional treatment reserved for Calhoun in American history and literature. Building on these cameos in this essay I shall try to reconstruct his thoughts on two matters: States’ rights and slavery.

This review article refers to the publication of six volumes of personal notes by Agnieszka Osiecka (1936–1997), one of the most popular Polish poets, a songwriter, director, and journalist of the second half of the twentieth century. The collection under review covers mainly the 1950s and provides a space for the search for one’s own identity. While referring to the recent edition and highlighting selected themes, this review article puts forward a perspective on the entire body of documents published between 2013 and 2021. A particular emphasis is placed on the importance of analysis of such egodocuments in girlhood studies.

SUMMARY Calculations of Coulomb stress changes have shown that moderate to large earthquakes may increase stress at the location of future earthquakes. Coulomb stress transfers have thus been widely accepted to explain earthquake sequences, especially for sequences occurring within parallel or collinear fault systems. Relating, under this framework, successive earthquakes occurring within more complex fault systems (i.e. conjugate fault system) is more challenging. In this study, we assess which ingredients of the Coulomb stress change theory are decisive for explaining the succession of three large (Mw 7+) earthquakes that occurred on a conjugate fault system in the NE Lut, East Iran, during a 30-yr period. These earthquakes belong to a larger seismic sequence made up of 11 earthquakes (Mw 5.9+) from 1936 to 1997. To reach our goal, we calculate, at each earthquake date, the stress changes generated by the static deformation of the preceding earthquakes, the following post-seismic deformation due to the viscoelastic relaxation of the lithosphere, and the interseismic deformation since 1936. We first show that accurately modelling the source and receiver fault geometry is crucial to precisely estimating Coulomb stress changes. Then we show that 7 out of 10 earthquakes of the NE Lut sequence, considering the uncertainties, are favoured by the previous earthquakes. Furthermore, the last two M7+ earthquakes of the sequence (1979 and 1997) have mainly been favoured by the moderate Mw ∼ 6 earthquakes. Finally, we investigate the link between the Coulomb stress changes due to previous earthquakes and the rupture extension of the next earthquake and show that a correlation does exist for some earthquakes but is not systematic.

The "Journal of Obstetrics and Women's Diseases" was created and regularly published by the St. Petersburg Obstetric and Gynecological Society since January 1887. Founded 115 years ago by the largest representatives of domestic obstetrics and gynecology (the first editorial board included A. Ya. Krassovsky, K.F.Slaviansky, I.I. and an assistant for many generations of obstetricians and gynecologists in Russia. From the first issues of the journal until 1936, the most important problems of obstetrics and gynecology, which were of great scientific and practical interest for contemporaries, were systematically covered and analyzed on its pages.After a 60-year hiatus, the Journal of Obstetrics and Women's Diseases was re-established in 1997.

In 1936, Otto Scherzer published his famous theoretical paper on the correction of aberrations in round magnetic electron lenses. For fundamental reasons, the aberration coefficients are positive and to introduce negative corrections, the electron optical elements have to produce either charges or poles on the optic axis, or contain a mirror or be a multipole system. In 1997, three papers appeared with actual demonstrations of the correction of aberrations in imaging lenses, probe forming lenses and electron mirrors. Abstract The art collector and educator, Dominique de Menil (1908–1997) has mostly been remembered as a pragmatic orchestrator of high-profile commissions in the art world. However, little attention has been paid to her role as a thinker. This article seeks to address that lacuna in the literature by attending to an overlooked source in the Menil archives, de Menil’s notebooks, which were written between 1974 and 1994. By analysing de Menil’s use of metaphor in the notebooks, we place them within the trajectory of de Menil’s intellectual development stemming back to her 1936 article: ‘Pour l’unité du monde chrétien’. The first part situates the metaphors which de Menil employed in the notebooks from the 1970s in the intellectual context of her inception of these figures of speech in Montmartre, Paris in 1936. The second part unpacks a central metaphor which grounds de Menil’s conception of tradition. The third part compares de Menil’s art historiography vis-à-vis other models which sought to reinvigorate the avant-garde art scene via pre-modern sources. The Coda critically assesses de Menil’s art historiography against other prevalent views on the relation between pre-modern and modern works of art.

In the Muslim Religious Union there is a dispute over the establishment of the Mufti office. From 2016, a schism has arisen in this religious community. This situation is a source of challenges for the authorities of the state administration and the courts in the application of a number of principles of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of Poland. There are principles: autonomy and independence of religious associations in their scope, legalism, legal certainty or confidence of citizens in the state and their rights. The legal status of the Union is based on anachronistic legislation: the Act of April 21, 1936, on the relationship of the State to the Muslim Religious Union in the Republic of Poland and the statute approved by the Council of Ministers by way of an ordinance of August 26, 1936. In practice, the Muslim Religious Association applies the 2009 internal statute. Religious authorities and courts try to remain neutral and not interfere in the internal dispute in the Muslim Religious Union. This is in line with the standards stemming from the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and the constitutional principle of autonomy and independence of religious associations in their own rig However, there is a state of legal uncertainty. It is urgent to repeal the Act and the Statute of 1936. This can be done either by a Constitutional Court decision or by passing a new law on the basis of the Muslim Religious Union Agreement with the Council of Ministers.

Ukazuje jego drogęzawodową, związaną z Katolickim Uniwersytetem Lubelskim Jana Pawła II, rozwój zainteresowań badawczychoraz zaangażowanie na rozmaitych polach aktywności naukowej, dydaktycznej i osobistej.Henryk Misztal uzyskał stopień doktora w 1968 r., doktora habilitowanego w 1979 r., tytuł profesora nadzwyczajnegow 1986 r., a profesora zwyczajnego w 1992 r. W latach 1983–1987 był prodziekanem Wydziału PrawaKanonicznego i Nauk Prawnych, zaś w latach 1987–1989 dziekanem tego Wydziału. W latach 1996–1997 pełniłfunkcję Kierownika Sekcji Prawa Kanonicznego na Wydziale Prawa Kanonicznego i Świeckiego. Z największym zaangażowaniem kierował Katedrą Prawa Wyznaniowego w latach 1980–2007, zaś Katedrą Prawa Kanonizacyjnegow latach 1984–2004. Te dwa kierunki zainteresowań zdominowały jego aktywność badawczą i organizacyjną.Artykuł przedstawia główne pola badawczych dociekań Henryka Misztala, poczynając od cenzury uprzedniejdruków kościelnych, przez prawo kanonizacyjne, po prawo wyznaniowe. Zwraca uwagę tak na ilościowo, jaki jakościowo imponującą skalę dorobku naukowego, na który składa się ponad 500 pozycji, z czego 42 są opracowaniami książkowymi. W artykule przedstawiono również zaangażowanie Księdza Profesora na niwie kościołalubelskiego. Nie zapomniano o tym, że był człowiekiem pracowitym, obowiązkowym i skromnym.

Les deux romans de Lydie Salvayre, La compagnie des spectres (1997) et Pas pleurer (2014) sont étudiés conjointement en raison de leurs parentés diégétiques et formelles. Le premier a été lu comme un « roman sur Vichy » et le second met en scène la mémoire de la révolution espagnole de 1936 et de la guerre civile. L’article replace ces deux livres dans le contexte mémoriel de leur parution et en dégage les enjeux. Ils sont porteurs de projets différents, témoignant d’un rapport au passé complexe et parfois douloureux. En montrant que l’événement historique est un spectre qui vient hanter le présent et en explorant la mémoire des petits et des vaincus de l’histoire, ces deux romans expriment une sensibilité politique de gauche.

The principle of independence of the state and the Church is one of the fundamental norms of religious relations in contemporary Poland. It is permanently embedded in the Polish legal system. It appears in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland of 1997 and in the Concordat of 1993. It was also expressed in the Act of 1989 on Guarantees of Freedom of Conscience and Religion and in individual denominational acts of 1989‒1997. On the other hand, this principle is contradicted by the denominational laws of 1928 and 1936. The principle of independence of the state and religious associations appears in Polish law together with the principle of autonomy and cooperation of these entities. Guaranteeing the principle of independence of the state and religious associations is especially the result of the negative experiences of the state’s denominational policy in the years 1944‒1989. In the field of juridization of the principle of independence of the state and the Church, there are clear similarities between the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Concordat. Certain legislative standardization is also present in the denominational acts of 1989‒1997. Appropriate models were provided primarily by the Act of 1989 on the attitude of the State to the Catholic Church in the Republic of Poland. From 1989, the Polish legislator put emphasis primarily on guaranteeing the rights of religious communities towards the state. Paradoxically, among the religious associations with an individual statutory regulation from 1989‒1997, few, although the most far-reaching, restrictions on independence (self-government) in relations with the state were provided for the Catholic Church. However, the independence of the state from the Church was not sufficiently ensured.

Publicada em 1936, pela Companhia Editora Nacional, Dom Quixote das Crianças teve uma primeira edição com 10.625 exemplares, número bastante expressivo para a época em que a obra foi publicada. Em 1940, quando sai a publicação da segunda edição, esse número cai para 5025 exemplares, mas ainda significativo para o Brasil de leitores daquele momento. As ilustrações de Gustave Doré, presentes na tradução portuguesa do século XIX, feita pelos viscondes de Castilho e de Azevedo, foram mantidas por Lobato na primeira edição de seu texto, apesar de, mais tarde, serem abandonadas, talvez por problemas com direitos autorais. Em 1947, na edição das obras completas, o ilustrador já era André Le Blanc. Este trabalho pretende apresentar algumas discussões sobre a constituição da obra Dom Quixote das Crianças e, para isso, se serve de teóricos como Amaya Prado (2008), Whitaker Penteado (1997), Silvia Cobelo (2010), Magno Silveira (2015), dentre outros.

George Beza (1907-1997) joined the Iron Guard. He acquired the title “Commander” of the legion but soon left the organization. He worked for a while with Mihai Stelescu (excluded from the Iron Guard on September 25, 1934) to publish the magazine "Crusade of Romanism", in which they criticized the legion. In April 1936, he and Stelescu were placed on the watch list of those who were to be punished for their treachery. Beza joined PNȚ and played and played an important role in World War II a monument was erected in Jerusalem in honor of Beza. He played an important role in the plans of SOE to organize anti-Antonescu propaganda in Romania. He was the author of the Vlaicu anti-axis resistance in Romania. This paper presents some aspects of SOE's organizational activities related to the Vlaicu program.

The paper is devoted to the study of long-term variability of the stable dates of ice formation and the duration of the freeze-up period at 12 gauges on the rivers of the Votkinskoe Reservoir catchment for 1936–2018. It turns out which of the statistical models is more consistent with the series of observations: the resampling model, the linear regression model, or the model of the change in the mean value starting from a certain point in time. The study was carried out in two stages. At the first stage the stable dates of ice formation and the duration of the freeze-up data were analyzed separately for each gauge. There were tested: the hypotheses of randomness, normality of the series of observations, hypotheses about the absence of a linear trend and autocorrelations in the data; hypotheses of homogeneity of series of observations. At the second stage the stable dates of ice formation and the duration of the freeze-up data were analyzed jointly using a two-dimensional normal distribution model for each gauge. There were tested: the hypotheses on two-dimensional normality and equality of data covariance matrices; the hypothesis of homogeneity of two-dimensional data. Using the methods of difference-integral curves and t-test revealed statistically significant changes in the behavior of the characteristics under consideration with the change point in 1997. Within each of the periods 1936–1997 and 1998–2017 for all gauges, the initial data allow describing the behavior of the characteristics under study using a resampling model, the elements of which have the same normal distribution law. There are no autocorrelations in the observation series. At the same time, statistically significant shifts in the dates of ice formation to the late side by 7–14 days and a reduction in the duration of the freeze-up period by 6–18 days were established. The transition from a separate analysis of the dates of ice formation and the duration of the freeze-up period to their joint analysis did not affect the nature of the results obtained. The results make it possible to improve the forecasting of the ice-thermal regime of rivers and improve the planning and organization of the work of water transport and hydraulic structures.

Nephochaetopteryx Townsend, 1934 is a genus of flesh flies predominantly Neotropical in distribution, which comprises small species (4.0–7.3 mm) characterized mainly by vein R1 fully setulose dorsally and wing usually fumose between apical part of vein R2+3 and vein C. The taxonomic revision of the genus resulted in 39 valid species, of which 12 are new to science: N. boruca sp. nov., N. canga sp. nov., N. coendu sp. nov., N. cuzco sp. nov., N. equatoriana sp. nov., N. inca sp. nov., N. lamasi sp. nov., N. matinta sp. nov., N. psittacocercus sp. nov., N. sofiae sp. nov., N. similis sp. nov. and N. tembe sp. nov. Nephochaetopteryx shannoni Dodge, 1968 is a junior synonym of N. flavipalpis Lopes, 1936, syn. nov. and N. linharensis Tibana & Santos 1997 is a junior synonym of N. pallidifacies Lopes 1975, syn. nov. A key to the males of all valid species is given, as well as detailed illustrations of the male terminalia.

Bu çalışmada Aydın İli’ndeki üç meyve bahçesinde Drosophilidae (Diptera) familyası türlerinin belirlenmesi ve bunların mevsimsel yoğunluklarının araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Aynı zamanda çalışmada saptanan diğer diptera türleri de incelenmiştir. Çalışmalar Eylül 2018-Ocak 2020 tarihleri arasında içerisinde üzüm sirkesi bulunan besin cezbedici tuzaklar kullanılarak yürütülmüştür. Çalışma sonunda, tuzaklarda 11 Drosophilidae türü ve ayrıca yedi familyadan 10 farklı sinek türü belirlenmiştir. Drosophilidae türlerinden Drosophila subobscura Collin, 1936 toplam 1 964 birey olarak çalışma bahçelerinde belirlenmiş ve en çok yakalanan tür olmuştur. Bunu sayısal olarak Drosophila immigrans Sturtevant, 1921, Drosophila melanogaster Meigen, 1830, Zaprionus tuberculatus Malloch, 1932 ve Drosophila suzukii Matsumura, 1931 izlemiştir. Bahçelerde en çok drosophilid 1 836 birey ile Nisan (2019) ayında elde edilmiştir. Drosophilid türleri sayısal olarak birlikte dikkate alındığında, mevsimsel dalgalanmalar göstermiş olup, bunlardan ilk tepe noktası Nisan (2019) ayında ve ikincisi Kasım-Aralık (2019) aylarında ortaya çıkmıştır. Ancak, drosophilid türleri yaz ayları süresince oldukça düşük sayılarda tuzaklara yakalanmıştır. Çalışmada saptanan Aulacigaster falcata Papp, 1997 (Diptera: Aulacigastridae) Türkiye faunası için ilk kayıt niteliğindedir.

I artikkelen redegjør jeg for valg av engelskvariant i skolefaget engelsk i Norge, fra Skoleloven av 1936, da engelsk ble innført som fag i den obligatoriske folkeskolen, og fram til i dag. Skolefagets læreplaner utgjør her kildene til kunnskap om engelskvariant som modell for elevenes egen læring av uttale, elevenes forståelse av ulike uttalevarianter og opprinnelseslandet til kulturelementer representert. Analysen viser at først i 1987 ble de to hovedvariantene av engelsk uttale, britisk engelsk og amerikansk engelsk, formelt likestilt. Denne læreplanen hadde videre som målsetting at elevene skulle lytte til uttalevarianter også fra verden utenfor Storbritannia og USA og lære å akseptere dem som likeverdige. I den påfølgende planen fra 1997 skulle elevene også lære å skille mellom ulike uttalevarianter. Både 1987- og 1997-planen refererer til engelsk som internasjonalt språk, men først i læreplanen fra 2006 konkretiseres dette blant annet ved at elevene skal få innsikt i hvordan språket brukes som internasjonalt kommunikasjonsmiddel. Kulturkomponenten i skolefaget blir ikke studert per se i artikkelen, men trekkes inn i den grad den kan forstås som en drivkraft for valg av språkvariant. I en ramme rundt artikkelens hovedmålsetting skiller jeg blant annet mellom hovedtyper brukere av engelsk, og jeg diskuterer den internasjonale debatten i samtiden om å gjøre engelsk som lingua franca til modell for fremmedspråkopplæringen men viser samtidig til undersøkelser av holdninger og meninger hos norske elever og lærere som påviser at den innfødte talers modell fortsatt står sterkest.

El pasado reciente de España ha tenido desde la Transición una importante presencia en el cine español. El desarrollo y las consecuencias de la Segunda República (1931-1936), la Guerra Civil (1936-1939) y el Franquismo (1939-1975) han contado con el interés de diversos cineastas desde la recuperación de la democracia en 1975. Debido a la censura imperante, durante la dictadura no se reflejaron en el celuloide ciertos aspectos de estos periodos, de manera que en los últimos cuarenta años se ha producido una eclosión de filmes ambientados en ellos, especialmente durante la guerra y la posguerra. Asimismo, los protagonizados por niños resultan muy oportunos para advertir el contexto histórico desde la mirada de la infancia y descubrir el pasado escolar. Con el objetivo de conocer las películas actuales que cuentan con personajes infantiles y transcurren en las citadas etapas, se aborda cómo era la escuela del pasado, qué prototipos de docentes, alumnos y familias imperaban, qué tipo de contenidos se impartían y cómo la ideología de cada periodo estaba presente en el aula. Para ello, se analizan Secretos del corazón (Montxo Armendáriz), La lengua de las mariposas (José Luis Cuerda), You’re the One (José Luis Garci), El espinazo del diablo (Guillermo del Toro), El florido pensil (Juan José Porto), El viaje de Carol (Imanol Uribe), Los girasoles ciegos (Cuerda) y Pan negro (Agustí Villaronga), películas estrenadas entre 1997 y 2010. Desde estas consideraciones, los filmes españoles actuales protagonizados por niños favorecen la reconstrucción del pasado histórico-educativo de estas etapas.. The species-rich and widespread genusTaraxacumF. H. Wiggers, 1780 (Asteraceae subfamily Cichorioideae) is one of the most taxonomically complex plant genera in the world, mainly due to its combination of different sexual and asexual reproduction strategies. Polyploidy is usually confined to apomictic microspecies, varying from 3x to 6x (rarely 10x). In this study, we focused on Taraxacum sect.Taraxacum(= T.sect.Ruderalia;T.officinalegroup), i.e., the largest group within the genus. We counted chromosome numbers and measured the DNA content for species sampled in Central Europe, mainly in Czechia. Abstract . This article reviews 30 species of biting midges of the genus Dasyhelea that are known to occur in Poland. Diagnoses and detailed descriptions of adults are provided for all Polish species, as well as keys (based mainly on males) for the identification of subgenera and their included species. Dasyhelea excellentis BORKENT, 1997 is recognized as a new junior synonym of Dasyhelea bifida ZILAHI-SEBESS, 1936 (syn. n.) and Dasyhelea lugensis BRODSKAYA, 1995 as a new junior synonym of Dasyhelea caesia REMM, 1993 (syn. n.). Among the Polish biting midge fauna, most species of the genus Dasyhelea are primarily arboreal, widely distributed Palaearctic species. The most species-rich samples were collected in the following regions: Eastern Baltic Lakelands (19 spp.), Southern Baltic Lakelands (16 spp.), Southern Baltic Coastlands (14 spp.) and Central Western Carpathians (12 spp.). The larvae were found in sap and tree holes, water accumulated in gutters and sinks, moist soil near fresh- and saltwater bodies, and peat bogs. Adults are known to visit flowers for nectar, and 16 Polish species were found on umbelliferous flowers.

The Australian small minnow mayfly fauna remains poorly known with only 21 described species (Webb & Suter 2010). Four species were described in the genus Baetis Leach: B. baddamsae Harker, 1950; B. confluens Harker, 1950; B. frater Tillyard, 1936; and B. soror Ulmer, 1908. Baetis soror and B. frater were both placed in Offadens Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty (Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty 1998, Suter 2000), but the two remaining species are still included in Baetis. Revisionary work of the last few decades has clarified the concept of Baetis and related genera and showed that older concepts of the genus were highly polyphyletic (i.e. Waltz & McCafferty 1987). Examination of larvae and adults of all known baetids occurring in Australia showed that true Baetis does not occur and that the generic placement of B. baddamsae and B. confluens should be changed. Both species have hindwings and double marginal intercalaries in the forewings, indicating they belong to either Offadens or Edmundsiops Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty, which are equivalent to Genus 1 and Genus 2 sensu Suter (1997), respectively.
