AbstractIn this chapter we present our own work on developing the idea of Data Literacy and reflect on the potential to develop democratic education for data citizenship. In our work we link ideas from Dewey (New Republic 61:294–296, 1930) and Freire (Pedagogy of the oppressed (revised). Continuum, 1970/1996), with ideas from Nussbaum (Int Stud Rev 4(2), 123–135, 2002) and Sen (The idea of justice. Harvard University Press, 2009), to consider how we move towards a more just datafied society (see Carmi E, Yates S, Int J Commun 17:3619–3637, 2023). We argue that Data Literacy and Data Citizenship interventions need to build on a deep understanding of their audience and their journey towards greater data citizenship and awareness of issues in our datafied society. The chapter sets out seven principles for the development of Data Literacy and data citizenship support interventions and explores approaches to their development.

En México, el Estado y la política fiscal jugaron un papel fundamental en la estrategia de crecimiento económico, en la época de desarrollo estabilizador, hasta finales de la década de 1970. Bajo una estructura financiera regulada, el gasto público se convirtió en el factor determinante y dinámico del proceso de industrialización que se inició a mediados de la década de 1930. Resultado de ello fue el crecimiento sostenido del producto, acompañado de estabilidad financiera, cambiaria y de precios.

Abstract (sommario):
France played a key role in the negotiations on the peace treaties that ended the First World War, thus emerging as a major European power and key political player in the Central European region. In the period between the two world wars, French governments in Central Europe sought to preserve the status quo that they had established, and in the course of this process, developed several ideas to integrate the region into Europe. Among the French ideas for the integration of Central Europe, I will first analyse the Briand project. In a 1929 speech, French Prime Minister Aristide Briand proposed a new form of European cooperation. His idea was to create a European Union of 27 European countries, in which the Member States would retain their autonomy, and cooperation would be established primarily in the economic sphere. After a favourable reception, he put his plans into writing, publishing them in 1930. The Briand Plan placed political issues before economic ones, leading to Hungary’s and many other countries’ disappointment. A second idea was the Constructive Plan (‘Plan constructif ’), which was the antonym of the German-Austrian customs union of 1931, drawn up under the leadership of André François-Poncet, Deputy State Secretary, and published in a memorandum on 4 May 1931. In the document, the French government drew attention to four problems: the crisis in the cereals trade in Central and Eastern Europe; situation of the industrialised countries; question of capital and credit; and special situation of Austria. The plan with the most significance was submitted by the French Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, André Tardieu, to the British and Italian governments in the form of a memorandum on 2 March 1932. The Tardieu plan was to provide urgent aid to the five Danube states – Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania and Yugoslavia – whose economic situation was close to collapse, mainly as a result of the difficulties caused by the agricultural crisis. However, the fate of the most detailed Central European plan was clearly sealed by the lack of agreement between the great powers, particularly German and Italian opposition, and the position of reluctance adopted by most of the Danube region countries. The Tardieu plan was conceived in February 1932, published in March, and in April it had practically failed. Therefore, none of the three plans developed between 1930 and 1932 was eventually implemented. Following this, no other comprehensive ideas for the integration of the Central European area in 20th Century France have been put forward.

Este artigo tem como objeto a formação de professores da educação primária na capital do Maranhão no período de 1900-1930. No início da República a defesa pela instrução pública no Maranhão não diverge do sistema nacional quando apresenta como uma das principais bandeira a expansão do ensino primário, contudo as dificuldades financeiras e acordos políticos, não permitem a ampliação do atendimento escolar. Nesse contexto, a ênfase no estabelecimento de diretrizes do sistema educacional, devido ao novo olhar para a escola, contribui para o surgimento de ações formativas direcionadas ao professorado. Na exploração dos sentidos em torno do interesse sobre a expansão do ensino primário neste período, emerge a necessidade de capturar os marcadores simbólicos na construção e defesa de uma política educacional para os professores na capital do Maranhão (1900- 1930). Dessa forma, partimos do pressuposto de que a constituição de espaços de formação para professores ocorreu por um processo social determinado por fases marcadas por oposições e tensões entre grupos sociais, que se ocupavam do campo do saber pedagógico. Ao analisar como ocorreu este processo de difusão de ideias sobre a necessidade formativa dos professores, a partir das publicações de periódicos tais como O Diário de São Luís, Pacotilha, O Jornal, Diário do Maranhão, entre outros, esperamos apreender os significantes em torno das medidas formativas e práticas educativas desenvolvidas na capital maranhense. Entendemos que nesse percurso, importa identificar as representações geradas pelos agentes sociais, assim como compreender o processo de envolvimento na produção de conhecimento sobre o fazer educacional com base nas propostas pedagógicas vigentes no período estudado. Desta forma, consideramos contribuir para a ressignificação de sentidos sobre a história da educação e da prática docente no campo educacional do Maranhão republicano.

Este capítulo objetiva apresentar uma análise do romance A Barragem (1994) da escritora paraibana Ignez Mariz refletindo acerca as problematizações das noções de gênero e sexualidade a partir da construção das personagens femininas. Tomaremos com aporte teórico as discussões de Louro (1917) e (2008), Perrot (2005), Duarte (2016), Falci (2015) e Carranza (2022), a fim de mostrar que apesar das personagens estarem inseridas em um contexto de base patriarcal, através de suas ações buscam questionar ou subverter as noções estabelecidas quanto ao ser mulher daquela época. Além do mais, as personagens em seus discursos trazem algumas reflexões sobre a sexualidade e alguns tabus frequentes naquele contexto, como, por exemplo, a virgindade e o prazer feminino.

O presente artigo tem como finalidade fazer uma breve revisão bibliográfica sobre as contribuições do Behaviorismo enquanto teoria da modelagem comportamental e sua relação com o contexto educacional. Para tanto, é necessário apresentar as teorias comportamentais dos autores John B. Watson e Burrhus Frederic Skinner. WATSON (1930) foi um dos primeiros a aplicar as ideias do behaviorismo à educação, defendia que o comportamento humano pode ser moldado por meio da experiência, onde a educação deve ser baseada em um processo de condicionamento. Já SKINNER (2003), desenvolveu uma abordagem mais sofisticada da modelagem comportamental, conhecida como condicionamento operante, onde a educação deve ser baseada em um processo de reforço positivo e os estudantes recompensados por apresentarem comportamentos desejados. Outro ponto discutido neste artigo, é a influência do Behaviorismo na Pedagogia Tecnicista e seu papel na estruturação da Educação Profissional no Brasil, em especial, a influência nas ofertas dos Institutos Federais de Educação. Como material de pesquisa foram analisados livros e artigos que abordam as contribuições do Behaviorismo na área da educação brasileira considerando os seguintes autores: FAIRCLOUGH (2001); FRIGOTTO (2012); MARX (2004); MOREIRA (1999); PAPALIA (2013); OLIVEIRA (1973); SAVIANI (2007). O artigo está organizado da seguinte forma: primeiro tópico será realizada a discussão dos principais autores das teorias ligadas a compreensão do comportamento - Behaviorismo Metodológico e Behaviorismo Radical. No segundo tópico será feita uma análise da influência do Behaviorismo na Pedagogia Tecnicista na estruturação da Educação Profissional no Brasil.

Abstract The focus of this paper is to address the structured development of numerical algorithms for water wave simulations which might execute on future quantum computers. To carry out this goal we address the feasibility of numerically simulating nonlinear wave equations in the quantum domain. Many researchers express the opinion that quantum computers may be available in the next 5 to 10 years. It therefore seems appropriate to begin preparation of the key ideas and mathematical structure that would support the development of quantum algorithms and the writing of an actual code on a hypothetical quantum computer, although the latter goal will be addressed in later papers. A number of efforts in the direction of quantum computation have already been made and some standardization of the notation has occurred. In particular Google, IBM and others have made some progress in this regard to hardware and a number of investigators have made progress with algorithms. The achievement of “quantum supremacy” has recently been advertised by Google. However, it goes without saying that considerable further progress needs to be made, particularly with regard to “quantum error correction.” We do not pursue the details of quantum computers here. Instead we study the construction of the possible quantum physics for nonlinear wave equations. The goal is to extend our understanding of the quantization of nonlinear wave equations. The problem of deep-water waves begins with the nonlinear Schroedinger (NLS) equation and its physical hierarchy: This includes the NLS, the Dysthe, the Trulsen-Dysthe, the Yan Li and the Zakharov equations. A full discussion of the quantization of some of these equations and their nearby integrable counterparts is beyond the scope of the present paper and will be presented at a later date. Here we study the simplest nonlinear, integrable wave equation, that found by Korteweg and deVries [1895]. The approach discussed herein extends the method of Heisenberg from nonlinear Hamiltonian ordinary differential equations (odes) to Hamiltonian nonlinear partial differential equations (pdes) by the development of the “matrix mechanics” appropriate for a particular nonlinear wave equation. I focus at first on the integrable Hamiltonian system for KdV and then extend this to a perturbed Hamiltonian system. The beauty of the approach is that a Hamiltonian nonlinear pde can be solved with quasiperiodic Fourier series [Osborne, 2023], an idea already used by Heisenberg for nonlinear odes in his book of 1930 [Heisenberg, 1930]. Indeed, it was his use of these Fourier series that led to matrix mechanics. This paper emphasizes the mathematical and physical structure of the quantum mechanics of the “classical integrable Hamiltonian equations” of water wave motion. We address a particular water wave equation, the Korteweg-deVries (KdV) equation, which we “quantize” using the method of Heisenberg [1930]. This leads to the “matrix mechanics” of the KdV equation: We thus find the fundamental equations of quantum mechanics which form the starting point for the development of a quantum algorithm for solving the KdV equation.

Thermal comfort has been a discussed subject since 1930. Researchers have looked into understanding the thermal comfort of the occupant’s weather at home, offices, educational institution because the occupants have significant effects on their indoor environment. In this study we aim to understand the comfort temperature ranges in Mixed-mode (MM) and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) types of office buildings in Japan. The field data is collected from six office buildings located in Aichi prefecture from July 2021 to October 2022, where 16,411 responses were collected from 46 occupants. The environmental parameters such as air temperature, relative humidity, and so on were measured along with the responses. The result suggests that the office workers are highly satisfied and they are adapted to the indoor environment, as in the MM office buildings 80 % of the occupants were comfortable at the temperature range of 19~29 °C whereas in HVAC office building this range was 22~27 °C. MM office buildings had wider range of thermal comfort zone even under HT and CL mode as compared to HVAC buildings which suggests that the MM type of buildings are better than HVAC.

The paper deals with the exile view of Czech literary criticism in the past decades, reflected in two essays: one by Igor Hajek, and the other one by Kvetoslav Chvatik. Igor Hajek (1931�1995), a Czech literary critic, who went to exile in 1969, played a significant role in presenting Czech literature abroad. Kvetoslav Chvatik (1930�2012) was a Czech philosopher, aesthetician, art historian, and literary theorist. Hajek taught at universities in the English-speaking world, while Chvatik worked in a German-speaking environment. Two periods are covered and compared in the paper: the first period, the period of pluralistic democracy and the resulting cultural structure when the literary criticism contributed to the fact that Czech literature reached the European level, and the period after February 1948 when the ruling ideology started to interfere in the development of literature. Two completely contradictory conceptions are described showing the radical changes that took place in literary criticism after 1948. The text looks at the role of literary criticism in an era when plurality of opinion is possible, and at the impact of the suppression of freedom of speech on the work of literary critics. It also shows how the process of the shift of literary criticism towards its true function in the spirit of democratising tendencies had gradually won its way.

Abstract This work presents the techno-economic analysis of the Solid oxide semi-closed CO2 cycle (SOS-CO2), a hybrid sem-iclosed cycle with solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) recently de-veloped by Politecnico di Milano for power generation from natural gas with high efficiency and near-zero CO2 emis-sions. All the cycles components, including the fuel cell and the turbine, have been designed and sized with the aim of assessing the performance and the capital cost. The performance and the economic key performance indicators are compared with those of two benchmark technologies for power generation with CO2 capture: the Allam cycle and a combined cycle equipped with ammines for post-combustion capture. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis is performed on the cost of the natural gas and the SOFC stacks. The results indicate that the specific total capital requirement of the SOS-CO2 cycle (2500 €/kWel) is higher than the Allam cycle (1930 €/kWel) and combined cycle with post-combustion capture (1980 €/kWel). On the other hand, the SOS-CO2 cycle benefits from its higher efficiency (74.0% vs. 53.9% of the Allam cycle and 52.8% of the combined cycle) which makes the cycle less sensitive to the fuel cost and CO2 tax. In terms of cost of electricity, the SOS-CO2 cycle turns out to be the best technology for natural gas prices above 8 €/GJ, while the Allam cycle appears to be the preferred option at lower fuel prices. For a fuel cost of 12 €/GJ, the SOS-CO2 features a cost of electricity of 106.2 €/MWh, lower than the Allam cycle (119.1 €/MWh) and the NGCC (126.9 €/MWh).
