Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Zambales carved a special niche in Augustinian Recollect mission history. Recollects evangelized Mariveles, then part of Zambales, where their protomartyr Miguel de la Madre de Dios met his death. Rodrigo de San Miguel later set up five towns. In 1607, Andrés del Espíritu Santo founded Masinloc and then proceeded to create Casborran [Alaminos], Bolinao, Balincaguin [Mabini] and Agno in Pangasinan. Blessed Francisco de Jesús resided there before his 1632 martyrdom in Nagasaki. We recall the successful defense of Masinloc in 1649 against 600 Moro pirates by the natives headed by Father Francisco de San José. Its parish priest José Aranguren became Manila archbishop in 1845. In the wake of the Revolution, the returning Agustín Pérez was welcomed by his parishioners. He restored the Catholic worship and urged Aglipayans to return to the fold. In 1902, Father Pérez left due to a conflict with its anti-friar mayor. Thus, ended its Recollect history. But the legacy of Christian faith lives on. The parish church of 1745 is a witness to the zealous Recollect evangelization and the people’s steadfast Catholic faith.

Abstract (sommario):
Wówczas nastąpiła gruntowna przebudowa zespołu architektonicznego, przekształcono wnętrza wokół dwóch dziedzińców, wzniesiono i wyposażono kaplice. Budynki pozostawały własnością beaterium do lat 60. XX wieku, kiedy to zlikwidowano instytucję, a tercjarki tworzące wspólnotę zostały włączone do zakonu Karmelitanek Misjonarek. Dzisiaj w dawnym beaterium mieści się hotel.

Abstract (sommario):
The Jesuit mission in Ethiopia represented one of the most serious challenges of Ethiopian Christianity during the early modern times. The mission had two phases. In the first phase, from 1555 to 1603, the missionaries undertook to convert King Gälawdewos and his court in return for military support from Portugal but had to face opposition from his successor, Minas (r.1559–1563). The second period ran from 1603 to 1632 and marked the major success of the mission. The missionaries managed to convert King Susənyos (r.1607–1632) as well as important nobles and dignitaries. In the first phase of the mission, even though the Christian kingdom had been heavily weakened by the wars with Imām Aḥmad b. Ibrāhīm al-Ġazī, called ‘Grañ’ by Christians, the political and religious leaders resolutely opposed Jesuit proselytism. Their opposition took the form of theological debates, wherein local religious leaders, including the ruler, confronted the foreigners and their alien dogmas. In this paper, I will analyse a contemporary Ethiopian religious text popularly known as the Confession of King Gälawdewos. The piece was composed in 1555 under the order of Gälawdewos to face the Jesuit challenge. The paper will show that this important literary work was instrumental in defending the indigenous Orthodox religion and local customs.

"Hemorrhage and Recurrence of Obliterated Brain Arteriovenous Malformations Treated With Stereotactic Radiosurgery". Stroke, 26 maggio 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.1161/strokeaha.122.039213.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Although complete nidal obliteration of brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) is generally presumed to represent durable cure, postobliteration hemorrhage, and AVM recurrence have become increasingly recognized phenomena. The goal of the study was to define hemorrhage and nidal recurrence risks of obliterated AVMs treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study from the International Radiosurgery Research Foundation comprising AVM patients treated between 1987 and 2020. Patients with AVM obliteration on digital subtraction angiography (DSA) were included. Outcomes were (1) hemorrhage and (2) AVM recurrence. Follow-up duration began at the time of AVM obliteration and was censored at subsequent hemorrhage, AVM recurrence, additional AVM treatment, or loss to follow-up. Annualized risk and survival analyses were performed. A sensitivity analysis comprising patients with AVM obliteration on magnetic resonance imaging or DSA was also performed for postobliteration hemorrhage. Results: The study cohort comprised 1632 SRS-treated patients with AVM obliteration on DSA. Pediatric patients comprised 15% of the cohort, and 42% of AVMs were previously ruptured. The mean imaging follow-up after AVM obliteration was 22 months. Among 1607 patients with DSA-confirmed AVM obliteration, 16 hemorrhages (1.0%) occurred over 2223 patient-years of follow-up (0.72%/y). Of the 1543 patients with DSA-confirmed AVM obliteration, 5 AVM recurrences (0.32%) occurred over 2071 patient-years of follow-up (0.24%/y). Of the 16 patients with postobliteration hemorrhage, AVM recurrence was identified in 2 (12.5%). In the sensitivity analysis comprising 1939 patients with post-SRS AVM obliteration on magnetic resonance imaging or DSA, 16 hemorrhages (0.83%) occurred over 2560 patient-years of follow-up (0.63%/y). Conclusions: Intracranial hemorrhage and recurrent arteriovenous shunting after complete nidal obliteration are rare in AVM patients treated with SRS, and each phenomenon harbors an annual risk of <1%. Although routine postobliteration DSA cannot be recommended to SRS-treated AVM patients, long-term neuroimaging may be advisable in these patients.
