AbstractThe Antarctic fish fauna from outer continental shelf/upper slope depths is under-sampled compared to that of the inner shelf, and there are limited quantitative data available on absolute abundance and taxonomic change with depth. A photographic survey of demersal fishes was conducted along a depth-gradient of 400–2099 m on the outer shelf and upper slope west of Anvers Island, Palmer Archipelago. A total of 1490 fishes were identified at least to the family level. Notothenioids composed 52.7% of absolute abundance and non-notothenioids 47.3%. The most abundant families were Nototheniidae (39.4%), followed by Macrouridae (28.9%), Zoarcidae (16.9%), and Channichthyidae (12.1%). The most abundant species were the notothenioidsLepidonotothen squamifrons(30.5%) andChionobathyscus dewitti(11.7%), and the non-notothenioidMacrourusspp. (29.5%). The absolute abundance of all fishes peaked at 400–599 m. Depths of maximum abundance were 400–599 m forL. squamifrons, 700–1499 m forMacrourusspp., and 900–1499 forC. dewitti. At 700–999 m the abundance shifted from primarily notothenioids to the non-notothenioidsMacrourusspp. and zoarcids. Fishes of the outer shelf and upper slope are not provincialized like those of the inner shelf and are circum-Antarctic.

The emergence of Spain as a world power in the early sixteenth century compelled a radical change in its language and literature. reflecting the country's global expansion, Spanish culture moved beyond its medieval belatedness to compete with Renaissance Italian culture, whose superiority was based on the humanist rebirth of ancient values. The cultural rivalry between Spain and Italy is documented in the prefaces that follow, written by the Catalan poet Juan Boscán (1490?–1542) and the Toledan noble Garcilaso de la Vega (1499?–1536). Through these poets' efforts, Spain became the first European nation-state not only to appropriate Italian versification and prose style but also to displace Italy from the political and literary spheres of power (King 240–41). The political and cultural significance of Boscán's and Garcilaso's revisionary poetics makes their prefaces the first literary manifestos of early modern Spain.

El cardenal Carvajal reunió en su residencia de Roma una colección arqueológica como signo del prestigio y poder que había alcanzado en su faceta político- eclesiástica, pero también en su perfil de humanista y mecenas. A través de dos fuentes anticuarias de la época, la llamada Nota d’anticaglie (1499-1501) y los códices de Pietro Sabino (c. 1490-1495), se propone una reconstrucción de la colección arqueológica de Carvajal, incluyendo la identificación de las inscripciones mediante el número de CIL, y se plantean algunas hipótesis sobre su posible participación en las excavaciones de Villa Adriana. Igualmente, se aborda la discusión en torno a la presencia en las fuentes anticuarias de un sarcófago romano perteneciente a un orator Hispaniarum, lo que confirma no solo la tendencia entre las elites hacia el incipiente coleccionismo, sino también la importancia de las antigüedades como medio de autorrepresentación para los cardenales y embajadores españoles afincados en Roma.

Induction motor speed control is one of the operating conditions that is often used so that feedback with a low error rate is required. To fulfill this, PI and PID controls have been implemented for single phase induction motors. This control has parameters, namely Kp, Ki and Kd. PI and PID controls can cover a variety of desired response conditions, but these controls still have weaknesses in the tuning process. The tuning process used still has a fairly large error value. So in this case we need an intelligent control to meet the desired motor speed response specifications. The performance of motor speed regulation was evaluated using a comparison between PI and PID control with Fuzzy in a closed loop. With a setting point of 1500 rpm, for PI control, with Kp = 7.32 and Ki = 0.005 can produce motor speeds up to 1499. While PID control with Kp = 0.95, Ki = 0.005 and Kd = 0.04 can produce similar speeds. 1492. Fuzzy control can produce an output of 1490 rpm. Fuzzy control is able to produce a settling time of 0.25 seconds and a steady error of 0.67%.

El texto ofrece el análisis visual de óleo sobre tabla, Justitia Zeven Hoofdzonden, obra de de Antoon Claeissens (ca. 1536-1613), datada a 1584, confrontando otras versiones cmo son aguafuerte Iusticia, de Luca Penni (ca. 1500-1504-1556), realizado por Léon Davent, grabador del mediados del s. XVI, y el también óleo sobre tabla de Pieter Claeissens de Oude (ca. 1499-1576) que lleva por título Justitia overwint de zeven hoofdzonden (1570- 1613). El A. sostiene que la raigambre medieval de la temática de estas tres obras, relacionada con la alegoría de los siete pecados capitales, posee una dimensión jurídico conectada reformas procesales emprendidas por Francisco I de Francia (1494-1547) para la transición del sistema acusatorio al inquisitivo por la Ordonnance Villers-Cotterets (Ordonnance sur le fait de la Justice, 1539). En ese sentido, introduce nuevas referencias visuales, como la estampa Iusticia, de Pieter Bruegel de Oude (1525- 1569), grabada (1559) por Philips Galle (1537- 1612), y destaca elementos funcionales específicos acerca de desconocimiento del acusado de los cargos formulados en su contra, y la efectiva práctica de la diligencia probatoria de tortura (tortura judicial). Se remarca de esta manera la fuerza explicativa de la cultura visual del Derecho que, en efecto, se situará como una verdadera alternativa al conocimiento jurídico exclusivamente derivado de lo textual. Obras como Praxis rerum criminalium elegantissimis iconibus ad Materiam accommodatis illustrata (1554) y el Enchiridion Rerum Criminalium (1554), del holandés Joos de Damhouder (1507-1581), y Praxis criminis persequendi, elegantibus aliquot figuris illustrata (1541), de Jean de Milles de Souvigny (1490?-1563), emplean en abundancia el recurso a imágenes (xilografías) para retratar las formas de conducción y trato del acusado. Aislados esos rasgos el A. concluye en que la nueva imaginería jurídico-moral de la Justicia a que la introducción del sistema inquisitivo da lugar en Europa durante el s. XVI se encuentra dotada de una plástica inquietante. Este trabajo, pues, proyecta desde la perspectiva cultura visual del Derecho un innovador enfoque para estudio de problemas jurídicos y su mejor comprensión.

This is the continuation of a check-list whose first part included II compilations composed and/or published between 1343 and 1490 (RQ 39 [1986], 1—15). The time-span from 1343 to 1528 was chosen because during that period each collection offacetiaehas its own individual flavor, a fact which has been insufficiently recognized because scholars studyingfacetiaehave usually been collectors of plots or of folklore motifs. The same joke is often told, certainly, by a variety of compilers, but with a different purpose and in a different context. After 1530 the joke-books will be almost uniquely collective, and will thus lose their interesting individual character.

Abstract Background Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a disease with a significant amount of cytogenetic heterogeneity including mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL) gene rearrangements. Pediatric AML commonly has genetic rearrangements which involve chromosome 11q23 in 15–20% of cases, and these genetic abnormalities have been associated with a poorer prognosis (Grimwade et al. in Blood 92:2322–2333, 1998; Raimondi et al. in Blood 94:3707–3716, 1999; Lie et al. in Br J Haematol 122: 217–225). MLL rearrangements in AML have been shown to have multiple different fusion partners (Meyer et al. in Leukemia 23:1490–1499). Heterogeneity of these cytogenetic abnormalities makes it difficult to determine how to approach patients from a treatment standpoint. This difficulty is further complicated when patients have more than a single MLL rearrangement. Case presentation A 10-year-old Caucasian girl presented with easy bruising and was found to have acute myeloid leukemia. Her cytogenetics showed two different MLL rearrangements, t(9;11)(p22;q23) and t(11;19)(q23;p13.3). At initial presentation she had no other cytogenetic findings. She responded well to initial therapy and achieved remission following the first induction cycle and completed four rounds of chemotherapy. She subsequently had a relapse of her AML, and her cytogenetics were consistent with a single MLL rearrangement, t(9;11)(p22;q23), in addition to monosomy 7. She was treated with reduction therapy and a haplo-identical bone marrow transplant but ultimately succumbed to her disease. Conclusion MLL rearrangements are common in AML, but clinical significance continues to be elusive, and there is conflicting data on the prognostic significance. In the setting of multiple MLL rearrangements, there is concern for reduced survival, although treatment modifications are not currently done in this setting. This report details a case with multiple MLL rearrangements that initially responded to therapy but ultimately had disease progression with a selection of a leukemic clone containing a single MLL rearrangement.
