Résumé :

In this article, the author proposes a method for the consistent acquaintance of Russian students studying the Japanese language by way of zoonymes and zoomorphic metaphors based on the example of the transcription of Aesop’s fable “The Dragonfly and the Ant”. In the Japanese transcription, instead of the zoonyme “dragonfly”, another zoonyme “grasshopper” is used. In addition, in Japanese linguistic culture, there are two versions of the fable. In one version, the ants refuse to help the grasshopper, and he dies. In another version, the ants help the grasshopper, and he lives through the winter with the ants and plays the violin. A type of entertainment that has existed for a long time in traditional Japanese culture is to listen to the sounds of insects. In modern-day Japan, there is a subculture of kirigirisu, the culture of street musicians, which entertain listeners. Besides, some even choose cosplay costumes in order to dress up as a grasshopper. The teaching method consists of several stages: - Introduction of a zoonyme (its meanings and spelling options); - Explanation of its significance in Japanese linguistic culture; - Descriptions of associations connected with this zoonyme in Japanese linguistic culture; - The use of the zoonyme in its direct meaning; - The use of the zoonyme as a metaphor in phrases, sentences and proverbs. The teaching of zoonymes and zoomorphic metaphors has both an applied and theoretical significance. In applied terms, it will help students who study Japanese learn more about Japanese linguistic culture; to get acquainted with the legends and traditions connected with these insects; to understand the associations that exist in Japanese society in connection with these insects; to learn the use of zoonymes in direct and figurative meanings in phrases and sentences, as well as to understand idioms in which the names of the insects are used. In theoretical terms, learning zoonymes will help students to understand Japanese linguistic culture and the essence of metaphorical meanings on the basis of examples of a non-native language. The proposed method can be used to get acquainted with any zoonymes and zoomorphic metaphors.

The paper considers a historical aspect of zoonymic studies which has not been sufficiently developed. The history of Russian horse names (hipponyms) is explored using zoonymic data from the inventories of the Vologda monasteries in the 16th — early 18th centuries, the materials from Listings of horses (Moscow, 1665), and archival documents of the Soviet farms of Sevmaslotrest from 1930s. The author identifies the lexical structure of Early Modern Russian hipponymy, delves into the meaning of names and appellatives they derive from, analyses the structure of horses’ names, and describes the name formation techniques. The studied sources bring the picture of the general development of lexical patterns in the Russian hipponymy. As it turns out, the vocabulary of Early Modern Russian hyponymy is almost identical with the Old Russian anthroponomy, which attests to their genetic unity. At the same time, the use of Christian names is noted, with these becoming more popular in the given period. The article also deals with structural types of Early Modern Russian hipponyms: zoonyms having a substantive form (nicknames formed from onomastic, agential, zoological, and object nouns; zoonymic compounds; suffixal compounds); adjective-based zoonyms; mixed names. In monastic scripts of the 16th — early 18th centuries, the vast majority of units used as hipponyms are “prefabricated” traditional names, the cases of creating original animal names are rare. In the latter case, zoonyms are usually formed using suffixal patterns peculiar for agentive and anthroponomic vocabulary. The word-building patterns include the onymisation of appellatives (sometimes by metaphoric transfer), substantivisation (nominalization) of adjectives, transonymisation of personal and place names. Due to the semantic, structural, and word-formation proximities between Early Modern Russian zoonymy and Old Russian anthroponomy, zoonymic vocabulary of the 16th–18th centuries provides a reliable source on Old Russian onomasticon, as well as explains the “anthroponymic” nature of modern Russian zoonymy and the active use of personal names for animals at present. This practice turns out to have deep historical roots.

Résumé :

The research aims to identify the onomasiological properties of zoonyms in New Zealand lexical substandard according to the classificational semantic types of nomination accepted by us, which implies examination of zoonyms from semantics to the ways of their formal expression. It is noted that substandard zoonyms are a means of New Zealand English speakers’ ethnonational individuality. The article gives the definition of the term “New Zealand substandard zoonym”. The work is novel in that it is the first to describe the noted onomasiological properties of New Zealand substandard zoonymic lexemes, which have been little studied in Russian Anglistics, in the context of substandard lexicography. The results obtained during the description showed that (1) the nomination of motivated substandard zoonymic items in New Zealand English can be caused by the distinguishing nonlinguistic features relating to animals’ physiological and behavioral characteristics and their habitat; (2) the process of zoonomination in New Zealand lexical substandard is realized through the models that involve transferring the name and changing the semantic volume of producing lexemes.

Résumé :

The article regards stereotypes for presenting zoonyms in Rusin phraseology in the psycho-cognitive aspect of ethnic mentality. The zoonymic metaphors are considered to be double-natured: originally, the animal character epitomizes human features, and then, the human is seen through animalist characteristics. The ability to metaphorically nominate a human in the phraseological world concept is mostly revealed in the names of domestic animals. Stereotyped zoonyms in Rusin phraseology are based on the anthropomorphic analogy: zoonyms are used to analyze a person’s psycho-emotional and physiological states and characteristics. Zoonyms are quite frequent in paradoxes in which folk humor can be easily traced: there they creatively trigger the instances of irony as a basis for generating some witticisms. Zoomorphic metaphors are semantically dominated by lowered emotive estimating features being the most powerful expressive means to lower the addressee’s status. Negatively charged zoomorphic nomination is mainly connected with features of character, behavior, intellect, physique, social status, and psychology, which compare a person with a beast. Zoonyms are used to denote the relations of space, time, measure, and quantity. Stereotypically related phraseology units with zoonym components had been shaped in the Rusin culture through naïve beliefs, traditions and myths. As evaluating stereotypes, zoonyms are found in curses or biddings of grief, jokingly uttered. Presented in linguistically arranged texts, zoonymic stereotypes appear to reveal strong connections between language, culture and ethnic entity, as well as main features of Rusin mentality.

Résumé :

The history of animal names begins with the early epochs of human evolution, when animalism was one of the basic components of the worldview. Despite a considerable number of works that study zoological vocabulary, the uncertainty of a number of terms and a certain arbitrariness of the use of terms and concepts associated with animal names is still present in onomastics, e.g. "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" refer to such concepts. The purpose of the article is to clarify the terminological meaning of these concepts, to generalize and systematize the basic research on the theory of zoonymic nominations. The research methodology was formed on the basis of theoretical positions in the field of onomastics and the theory of nominations in modern linguistics. As a result of the theoretical analysis the following findings were made. First, the terms "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" are not synonymous. "Zoonym" is a more general term than "zoomorphism". Zoomorphism represents zoological names of anthropological nature, attributing the traits associated with the image of an animal to a human. Zoonyms do not have such attributes. "Zoonim" is proposed to be the general term. Another finding was that the functioning of zoonyms and zoomorphisms in the literary text is influenced by the genre of the text, which is expressed in the genre determinism of the lexical composition of zoonyms nominating animals.

Résumé Être en mesure de nommer avec précision et discernement le milieu naturel dans lequel on vit, notamment la faune, fait partie aux yeux des Inuit des compétences qui fondent leur identité culturelle. Parallèlement à l’étude du sens, l’analyse formelle des noms d’animaux et de la nomenclature zoologique fournit de précieuses informations sur la manière dont les Inuit perçoivent la faune. Loin d’être composée de termes isolés, la nomenclature zoologique se caractérise par de nombreuses connexions lexicales: celles-ci impliquent bien entendu en priorité des animaux faisant partie des mêmes taxa mais aussi, dans un certain nombre de cas, des animaux appartenant à des catégories différentes. En règle générale, c’est la ressemblance morphologique qui est à l’origine de ces mises en relation qui se réalisent par le biais de la dérivation lexicale. Nombre de zoonymes sont construits à partir des noms des parties anatomiques (corporèmes), indication que le corps animal et humain constitue, ici comme dans d’autres registres de la culture inuit, une référence incontournable.

In this article, authors analyze zoomorphic metaphor that the Chinese and the Japanese used when they characterize the Russians. On the first stage of study we did associative experiment with questionnaire. 100 of Chinese students and 100 of Japanese students took part. On the base of analyze of answers we selected by three typical zoonymes in Chinese and Japanese culture charactering the Russians. On the second stage of study we have analyzed associations and images of these animals existing in Russian, Chinese and Japanese linguistic cultures. The Russians have images of bear, wolf and panther in Chinese culture and bear, wolf and fox in Japanese culture. It must be marked that all images are ambivalent and have as positive as negative characteristics. Because of the image of animals are different in Chinese and Japanese culture, the associations connecting with these animals are also different. But as the Chinese as the Japanese pay attentions on the appearance, then for the Chinese behavior is important, but for the Japanese color, place of living connecting with cold and woolen cloth that the Russian are dressed are important. The association on contiguity (the wool in animal, the cloth in man) is appeared. The white color is also important because it is associated with color of skin. The color is specified in zoonymes used by the Japanese the next way: bear 28 times, hare 10 times, hamster 9 times, fox 6 times, horse 3 times and squirrel 3 times. As for the Chinese this parameter is not important. Zoomorphic metaphor used in the relation with the Russians is connected with the following parameters. As for the Chinese with -physical characteristics (powerful, strong and, hard); imagination about Russian nation as a military nation; behavior (rough, aggressive and slow); character (open-hearted, kind and brave). As for the Japanese with appearance (beautiful, tall and white); place of living (cold place, many woolen dresses, resistant to the cold); behavior (slow, not pay attention to the surrounding people); size (big); physical characteristics (powerful).

Objective. The object of studying is the English texts of feature cartoons for children, while its subject is psycholinguistic peculiarity of zoonyms in feature cartoon texts. The main goal of the research is to find out the psycholinguistic organization of zoonyms in the English language feature cartoons for children. The objectives are to classify zoonyms’ origin, to differentiate sphere-sources and motivation of zoonym nomination, to highlight stylistic peculiarities of zoonyms. Materials & Methods. Specific methods and techniques are determined by the purpose and material to be analyzed, such as induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis, abstraction and concretization; longitudinal, processing and interpretation methods; psycholinguistic analysis; method of context-semantic analysis; the procedures of quantitative-qualitative calculations and the method of integral choice. Materials for the research are gathered from Paramount Pictures production, Dream Works animation, Universal Studio, Walt Disney production and the selection is the English feature cartoons for children, such as ‘The Lion King’, ‘Balto’, ‘Kung Fu Panda’, ‘Madagascar’, ‘Alpha and Omega’, ‘Shreck’, ‘Ferdinand’, ‘Puppy Dog pals’, ‘Ice Age’ etc. Results. The article dwells upon the psycholinguistic aspect of zoonyms in the English language feature cartoons for children. In the sense of changing the direction of linguistics from language to speech and communication, it is impossible to consider linguistics excluding the anthropological factors such as mentality, culture, behaviour and development of a man individually and of mankind as a whole. In this paper, the ways of forming a world view of a man are presented, which is also formed by a linguistic world view, fauna is distinguished as an emerging element of knowledge influencing on human’s cognition. Taking into account the fact that the world view about fauna is formed in the person’s mind from the first days of life observing nature, listening to the lullabies, watching cartoons, the object of this study is feature cartoons for children, and the subject is zoonyms. In the course of the research, methods and techniques such as induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis, abstraction and concretization, the method of material sampling, quantitative calculation procedure are used to determine the frequency of this phenomenon usage. As a result, it is found that in the English language feature films for children, the names of the English, Scottish, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Latin and Greek origins are used in zoonymy. Spheres-sources of zoonymy are multi-anthroponyms, single anthroponyms, toponyms, names of products, fitonyms and actual names of breeds and classes of animals. Nominative motivation is outlined by external features, behaviour, application of an animal, its breed and class. Stylistic peculiarities of zoonymy in the English language feature cartoons for children are such figures as the epithet, the metaphor, the personification and the euphony. Conclusion. The article is the basis for further research in linguistics, anthropological linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, biovital linguistics and onomastics.

The article is devoted to the study of proverbs and sayings of the Khakas language, which are anthropocentric in nature and include animal names (zoonyms). The aim of the article is to identify and describe the semantics of zoonyms and the peculiarities of their functioning in Khakas paremic expressions. The relevance of the topic is conditioned by the insufficient development of the problems of studying small folklore genres in Khakas linguistics. The novelty of the conducted research consists in the fact that it attempts to study zoonyms as components of proverbs and sayings of the Khakas language. Descriptive, semantic-cognitive and linguostatistical methods, and a review of scientific literature were used in the course of the work. The material of the study was selected by continuous sampling from existing collections of Khakas proverbs and sayings. The results obtained in the course of the study showed the presence of a large number of paremi with zoonym components (more than 130 units), which is due to the significance of the animal world, in which the national features and mental peculiarities of the Khakas people have been fixed as a result of centuries of human observation of it. The ethnocultural specificity of the Khakas language is most fully represented by paremi with the zoolexeme at ‘horse’. The thematic classification of Khakas proverbs and sayings with zoonymic components includes about 12 value-oriented semantic groups, which are united within the framework of universal oppositions (good-bad, good-evil, truth-false, strength-weakness, intelligence-stupidity, etc.), as well as family and social relations. The dominance of the two-component parallel structure of Khakas paremi has been revealed, containing in one part the main idea in the form of a moral attitude, and in the second part – its argumentation with a zoonym component. The figurative meanings of Khakas animalistic paremiology are represented by associative links of animal morals and habits with human characteristics and traits: horse symbolizes strength, diligence; hare is associated with cowardice; dog – with anger, cruelty; snake – with pretense and meanness; wolf – with greed and calculating mind; bear – with fearlessness; magpie – with idle talk and chatter, etc. The ethnocultural semantics of zoonyms is presented both in metaphorical proverbs and sayings, and in paremi, representing good wishes, customs and omens of the Khakas people. Further implications – comparative studies of the topic under consideration with the involvement of materials of Russian and English languages.

Résumé :

The article provides a comparable analysis of phraseologisms with the zoonymic component in German and Ukrainian linguistic images of the world, which are closely related to national cultures, traditions, customs and religions. Representatives of the animal world become symbols of prototype imagery of strength, bravery, courage, loyalty, stubbornness, humility, guile, speed of movement, wisdom. It has been identified that zoonymic component in a phraseological unit has a pronounced national-cultural specificity, which determines its associative relations and allows to use these phraseologisms to characterize appearance, social status, interpersonal relationships, behavior, physical and emotional state, intelligence, attitude to work and character traits of a person. In this case, the negative characteristics in zoonyms outweigh the positive ones, which is explained by the fact that any language tends to more likely adopt negative deviation in meaning. Mythology, folklore, biblical and literary sources, historical events and facts have significant bearing on the choice of zoonyms in phraseological units of the languages compared. Names of animals in different languages can be related to not the same images and symbols, and the same animals can be a standard for ascribing different qualities and characteristics. Thus, phraseological units with zoonyms can cause difficulties in translation, since zoonimic image plays a crucial role in the formation of the individual meaning of the phraseological unit, performing both informative and imaginative-expressive function. Phraseological units with a zoonymic component can be translated using full equivalents, partial lexical and grammatical equivalents, selection of analogues, description, literal and overtonal translations.

Тhis article analyses Macedonian phrasemes with zoonymic component denoting time. Zoonyms mainly came from surrounding environment which was expected having in mind the fact that man often reaches for something that is well known to him in an attempt to understand something far and abstract, such as the category of time. What distinguishes the analyzed units from the rest of the phraseological material with zoonymic components is their relative neutrality, bearing in mind that in general the zoonymic phrases are negatively colored. Such neutrality is due to their semantics, as well as to the fact that they show the characteristics and animals behavior as they are in reality

Résumé :

The article considers the Komi-Perm names of plants which include animal names in their composition. The main source of units for analysis was "Materials for the Dictionary of Komi-Perm Plant Names". The Komi-Perm phytonymic material is analyzed in structural and semantic-motivational aspects. The paper considers the structural types of two- and three-component units, describes the main and determinative components, gives examples of phytonyms formed according to the corresponding models. Semantic and motivational analysis has shown that, in general, zoonyms in the structure of complex phytonyms give the names of plants the meaning "not real", "inedible", "not domesticated, wild". Some units have a more specific motivation that depends on the animal name: zoonyms yus’ 'swan’, turi ‘crane’, lyagusha ‘frog’ reflect the place of growth, the zoonym balyamosh 'bumblebee’ - honey-like properties of plants, components pytsh ‘flea’, ludyk ' bug’ - the ability of plants with strong smell to drive away insects. Units formed by metaphorical transfer most often represent the structural parts of the plant: features of the stem (porskok ‘burdock’ - literal ‘pig's leg’), a form of the shoot (kӧktoin 'field horsetail' - literal ‘cuckoo's pestle’), the leaf (shyrpyzh 'plantain' - literal ‘mouse boat’), the inflorescence (kӧchbӧzh 'snake root' - literal ‘hare's tail’), the flower (kӧkkoti 'Venus's slipper' - literal ‘cuckoo's shoe’). A significant percentage of Komi-Perm complex phytonyms have originally Russian zoonymic components: baran, ezh, kuricha, lyagusha etc. Some of them are linguistic calques of the names of Russian units: shyrankytsh 'mouse peas’ (tufted vetch), kanlapka, kankӧk 'cat’s paw’ (cat's foot), kӧxinva 'cuckoo tears’ (haircap moss), etc.

The aim of the article is to compare and clarify the differences in the perception of the image of a zoonym by the speakers of the analyzed languages on the basis of the collected units of fixed comparisons with zoonym component describing human character traits in Russian and Chinese. All the collected fixed comparisons are divided into positive, neutral and negative character traits and similarities and differences are shown when describing the same character trait with the help of fixed comparisons with zoonim component. The result of the study will help avoid the mistakes of using fixed comparisons with zoonym component for Chinese students learning Russian. The scientific novelty lies in the complex analysis of fixed comparisons with the Russian and Chinese zoonyms. As a result, it has been proven that the descriptions of human character traits using fixed comparisons formed by the zoonyms in the Chinese and Russian languages are very different.

The article deals with phraseological units with zoonymic components that characterize the character of a person in the Kazakh and English languages, explores linguistic expressive means using animal images to describe human qualities and behavioral characteristics. In the work, we will review phraseological units with zoonymic components in both languages and analyze them using a comparative method.The purpose of the scientific article is to identify similarities and differences in the description of the peculiarities of the use of phraseological units, analysis of phraseological units with zoonimic components in Kazakh and English languages in the discourse of representatives of the two cultures.The main section of the article proves that phraseological units with zoonymic components are a reflection of cultural characteristics and views on human character in the Kazakh and English languages. The analysis showed that phraseological units with animals to describe human qualities are used in the two languages. Phraseological units in the Kazakh language are closely related to animals, that is zoonyms reffered to livestock, while English language mainly relies on zoonyms related to birds, insects and sea creatures. The results of the study may be useful to linguists, translators and cultural scientists who study the interaction of language and culture.The relevance of the research topic was the comparative analysis of phraseological phrases with zoonymic components in the Kazakh and English languages, revealing similarities and differences in the way, how human character is perceived and described by the different representatives of cultures. The authors presented their own vision of the problems based on the analysis of the works of the scientists on this topic. Comprehensive analysis of phraseological units with zoonymic components, which have become the main object of the article's research were carried out.

The paper discusses the German phraseological units and composite idioms with the zoonym components “Hund” (dog) and “Katze” (cat). Linguistic units with the idiomatic meaning containing zoonyms and having a centuries-old history are widely spread in the German language and are in general of great interest both from the national-cultural and the lexical-grammatical point of view. The aim of the study is to identify and interpret the similarities and differences of both structural and figurative-semantic nature between the German phraseological units and composite idioms with these zoonym components. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that a comparative analysis of the phraseological units and composite idioms with the specified components taking into account their structural diversity makes it possible to determine the figurative-semantic specifics of these zoonyms in German phraseology to a fuller extent. As a result, it has been found that, on the one hand, the figurative-semantic features of the zoonyms “Hund” (dog) and “Katze” (cat) are reflected both in phraseological units and in composite idioms and, on the other hand, there are both similarities and differences between them capable of influencing the ways of their structural integration.

The purpose of this study is to identify figurative zoonyms in the German media in Germany, Austria and German–speaking Switzerland in 2020-2024, which serve as a means of implementing a manipulative nominative strategy. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time it examines the issues of connoted figurative designation of current realities in German-speaking countries through zoonyms in order to manipulate mass consciousness. The results showed that the main ways of figurative designation of realities when setting a manipulative goal are the correlation of a known zoonym with a new referent and the creation of new figurative zoonyms through word formation. Nominations implicitly comparing humans with animals have a manipulative character. In the German-speaking cultural sphere between 2020 and 2024, zoomorphisms and zoonym-symbols play a crucial role in shaping the meaning of words for manipulative purposes. These figurative human designations and symbolic animal names have a special significance in conveying messages and influencing people. The animalistic language code is characterized by linguistic and cultural peculiarities of its manipulation, which is associated with the norms of behavior in force during the epidemiological and environmental crisis.

The use of contrastive analysis as a linguistic research method is effective at all language levels, especially at lexico-semantic and lexico-phraseological levels. Zoonymic images fixed in the language are associated with national and cultural stereotypes, value standards, which testifies to the individuality of the figurative thinking of speakers of the language, as well as to differences and similarities of language worldview. The article presents a contrastive analysis of the linguocultural connotations of zoonymic images in English, Ukrainian, and Russian proverbs. In the analyzed languages, the imagery of the proverb with a zoonymic component is formed by two main ways: as the figurative meaning of the whole sentence with the direct meaning of its component parts; as the figurative meaning of the parts of the sentence with the figurative meaning of the whole sentence. The following types of formal similarities and differences in English, Ukrainian, and Russian proverbs with a zoonymic image are identified: full logical and figurative similarity; logical and figurative similarity at the level of the whole statement and differences at the level of words; identity of logical meaning and complete difference in imagery; similarity of imagery and differences of logical meanings. Similarities and differences in zoonymic imagery are explained by a number of reasons: differences in folklore imagery system; differences in the national and cultural systems, which are reflected in proverbs; borrowing images from well-known religious or literary texts; typological and areal similarities and differences of the figurative systems. In various languages, the symbolic meaning of zoonyms is based on the importance of a certain animal, bird or insect in economic activity, in social and everyday life, in the mythological and religious worldview of the people. Specific examples (bull / ox; бик /віл; бык / вол) show that zoonymic images in different languages can completely coincide in their semantic meaning, be similar, or completely different. Zoonyms are formed according to mental patterns based on metaphorical transference and have evaluative and linguocultural connotations.

Les ouvrages encyclopédiques offrent un riche corpus textuel en vue de l’étude des rapports culturels entre Orient et Occident. Plus particulièrement, le Liber de natura rerum de Thomas de Cantimpré accorde une place importante au recensement et à la description des espèces animales. Dès lors, son examen permet de recueillir une série de données objectivables, quantitativement et qualitativement, sur la circulation et l’intégration d’éléments arabes au sein des connaissances répandues au XIIIe siècle en Occident. Un premier relevé des sources arabes utilisées par le compilateur permet de rendre compte d’une interaction dynamique entre les savoirs orientaux et occidentaux. La relation Orient-Occident peut aussi s’exercer de façon plus indirecte, comme lors de la réception du De animalibus d’Aristote au travers de la traduction arabo-latine réalisée par Michel Scot. Or, en prenant cet intermédiaire en considération, plusieurs zoonymes repris par Thomas de Cantimpré dont la consonance laissait perplexe peuvent être éclairés et l’organisation du recensement des espèces animales réalisé par le compilateur peut être étudiée sous un angle nouveau. Enfin, sur la question de l’identification de l’Experimentator, cité par Thomas de Cantimpré, de nouveaux éléments de réponse sont apportés en ce qui concerne la langue de composition, la datation et le mode rédactionnel de cet ouvrage.

The events of the Russian-Ukrainian war has left an imprint on the onymic sphere of Ukraine, particularly on the modern Ukrainian zoonymy. The purpose of the study is to identify new zoonyms that appeared in the period from February 24, 2022 to April 30, 2024 in the onymic space of Ukraine, to find out about the motives and reasons for their emergence and functioning, to analyze the phenomena of onymisation and transonymisation when zoonyms appear. The source material comprises of the names collected from on-line sources and the author’s own experience and observation. The analyzed zoonyms come from the common nouns (Шафа /Shafa/, Фенікс /Feniх/, Патрон /Patron/, Перемога /Peremoha/, Мир /Myr/, etc.) and from the onyms (Чорнобаївка /Chornobaivka/, Ямпіль /Yampil/, Бахмут /Bakhmut/, Тарас /Taras/, Леся /Lesya/, Байрактар /Bayraktar/, etc.). The use of such zoonyms is not limited to certain locations. They are widespread throughout Ukraine. Some of the analyzed zoonyms belong to the secondary ones (Шафа /Shafa/, Фенікс /Fenix/, Бахмут /Bakhmut/, Ямпіль /Yampil/, Буча /Bucha/): before their bearers were saved, they had other names. The most popular zoonyms in the studied material are Байрактар /Bayraktar/, Джавелін /Dzhavelin/ / Джавеліна /Dzhavelina/, Патрон /Patron/. The presence of identical zoonyms for animals of different species indicates the popularity of these onyms, the desire of animal owners to put their patriotic emotions into the name, in addition to the identification function. The analyzed zoonyms reveal the connection with the context of a certain time. They are closely related to the realities of war. These zoonyms are a kind of markers of wartime.

The article presents an onomastic analysis of zoonyms collected in three large Polish zoological gardens. The aim of the work is to examine the trends in the latest naming of wild animals living in zoos and to try to characterize it. The results of research on the names indicate that most names are transfers and derivation is a rare procedure. Among the collected zoonyms, there are visible tendencies towards: 1. naming subsequent animals of a specific species using a previously invented key, which makes it easier mainly in relation to animals that must be given a name for legal reasons; 2. giving animals, especially those that are known to be transported to another foreign zoo, universal names; 3. composing names based on word play or vocal instrumentation; 4. giving animals fashionable names and stereotypical names; 5. giving animals names reflecting their external features. It turns out that even in such a formalized sphere of zoonymic vocabulary, as the names of wild animals are, we can see considerable creativity when inventing onyms.

This article examines the relevance of the context «language and culture» in teaching the Kazakh and Turkish languages. The main part of the article examines the works of domestic and foreign scientists on the topic, discusses the inextricable link between culture and language, on the basis of which the importance of teaching culture through language, language through culture is determined. Textbooks of the Kazakh and Turkish languages have been taken as objects of research. According to textbooks for teaching the Turkic languages, a statistical analysis of the significance of teaching national and cultural vocabulary, including zoonymic vocabulary, has been carried out, in particular, the content of texts (basic, additional, explanatory) related to zoonyms, the availability of related materials (exercises and tasks, analysis, synthesis, selection and questions for systematization), types of tasks for texts (creative, practical, project, practice-oriented) related to zoonyms. The analysis and discussion of ways of expressing and studying the cultural life of a native speaker forming language skills in language learners through the development of zoonymic vocabulary shows the importance of the research. As a result of this research, the conclusion is made about the importance of taking into account the cultural life of the nation when studying concepts related to animal names in the lexical fund of the Turkic peoples. According to the results of statistical analysis, it is proposed that textbooks for teaching the Kazakh and Turkish languages include more culturological texts and text tasks related to the animal world. Teaching Kazakh and Turkish languages on the basis of the relationship between «language and culture» is recognized as worthy of today's educational paradigms.

The work is devoted to the origins and peculiarities of zodiac signs in the ancient Chinese tradition. The study is carried out within the frames of linguocultural approach towards interpreting animalistic metaphors, namely, the zoonyms of the twelve zodiac signs which in China, are used to characterize people concerning their date of birth and are passed on from generation to generation. Chinese zodiacs are based on the astronomic theory of constellations and human worship (idolatry) of totems. It focuses on the comparison of zoonym metaphors reflected as Chinese zodiac signs both in the Chinese and Russian languages proceeding from the theory of metaphor in modern cognitive aspect to detect similarities and differences, and as well, the study of cultural roots of zoonym metaphors revealed in the Chinese zodiac signs. The object of the study concerns zoonyms of zodiac signs possessing the relevant meaning in the Chinese zoological lexis. The work elaborates the definition of the notion zodiac, describes the processes of the genesis, formation and development of the Zodiac culture and its specific cultural relevance; according to the analysis undertaken, the means to differentiate twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac, and those of Chinese fairy tales, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, in Russian - animals were discussed and verified as to I.A. Krylovs fables. The conclusion states that metaphors are determined by the language itself, and linguocultures of various nations are reflected in specific metaphors and other peculiarities.

The article provides a comparative study of German and English phraseological units with a zoonymic or phytonymic component representing a healthy person. The analysis is given according to the following two types of cultural codes: 1) zoonymic and 2) phytomorphic. Consideration of comparative phraseological units containing zoonyms and phytonyms in the context of culture allows us to determine the general and the specific in the imaginative thinking of the Germans and the British about health, to explain the peculiarity of their functioning. Studying phraseological units within the framework of the linguistic and cultural paradigm is considered relevant since the zoomorphic and phytomorphic images underlying the formation of phraseological units are the conductors of culture. They transmit valuable information about the geographical and climatic living conditions of a particular ethnic group that helps to identify ethnocultural stereotypes and standards reflecting the collective view of the most valuable human being that is health. Moreover, the very trope (tropeic) essence of a phraseological unit is born from a combination of cultural codes, which are the structure-forming elements of cultural space and are present in the cognitive base of any linguistic and cultural community.

The purpose of the study is to identify common and distinctive features of Mordovian and Finnish phraseological units with the zoonym component «domestic animal» based on a comparative study of the characteristics of the studied phraseological units. The relevance of this study is due to the need for a comprehensive study of phraseological units with a zoonym component in the Mordovian (Erzya, Moksha) and Finnish languages in order to identify common and specific features inherent in these linguistic cultures. The obvious insufficiency of studies of phraseological units of the considered thematic group also explains the study of phraseological units, which have zoonymic components in their composition. The object of the study was the phraseological units of the Mordovian and Finnish languages, in which the zoonym component «domestic animal» was identified. Based on the methods of descriptive, comparative, component analysis, as well as the method of continuous sampling, this article highlights the components of the semantic aspect of phraseological units with zoonym components; the dominant images in phraseological units with the seme-zoonym are revealed, the frequency of their use in two languages is analyzed, and the universal and specific phenomena in the Mordovian and Finnish languages are determined. The main material of the study is presented by phraseological units with a zoocomponent in the Mordovian (Erzya and Moksha) and Finnish languages, identified by continuous sampling from explanatory monolingual, bilingual and phraseological dictionaries, as well as texts of fiction and journalistic literature.

The article presents the results of the analysis of German secondary nominations with Schwein or Sau zoonyms. The aim of the analysis was to identify common and nationally specific features of these nominations against the background of their Russian equivalents. The relevance of this study is due to the need for a comprehensive study of secondary nominations, taking into account their axiological aspects, which have a certain cultural uniqueness and cause nationally unique semantic transformations in the lexical meaning of these units. The study used the methods of descriptive, comparative-comparative, component analysis, the method of critical dictionary analysis and dictionary definitions. These methods allowed us to conclude that the nominative potential of the secondary meanings of the German zoonym Schwein or Sau is more pronounced in comparison with their Russian equivalents. The analysis also showed a wider evaluative spectrum of German units and a greater variability of the axiological component in their lexical meaning both under the influence of the contextual environment and without it. Secondary nominations with the indicated zoonyms in their composition were selected as the main material of the study, identified by means of a continuous sampling from German explanatory, encyclopedic, phraseological and linguocultural dictionaries, German language resources, as well as German-Russian dictionaries.

Зоонимы, обладая фразеообразующим потенциалом, способствуют раскрытию этнической специфики восприятия окружающего мира. Являясь одним из символов, формирующих представление о национальной картине мира, они содержат в себе определенный культурный код, наделяющий компоненты паремий смыслообразующей значимостью. В статье представлен сопоставительный анализ китайских и русских фразеологизмов и паремий с компонентами-зоонимами 马(лошадь / конь), 老虎 (тигр) с целью выявления символического значения образов данных животных в контексте двух лингвокультур, чем и объясняется её актуальность. Доказана взаимосвязь компонентов-зоонимов, лежащих в основе паремий, с определенными историческими закономерностями, раскрывающими специфику их трактовки. Различные методы анализа, применяемые в ходе изучения китайских и русских языковых единиц, извлеченных с помощью сплошной выборки из лексикографических источников, обеспечили возможность проведения комплексного исследования. Рассмотрены семантические характеристики фразеологизмов и дана их лингвокультурологическая интерпретация с учетом особенностей культурного фона. Анализ материала показал, что зооним老虎(тигр) – национально-маркированный символ, встречающийся в китайских устойчивых выражениях. Являясь самым частотным компонентом чэнъюйев, он выступает в них символом власти, могущества, скрытого дара, нереализованного таланта и ассоциируется с опасностью и риском и представляет для китайцев особую значимость. Обнаруженная схожесть в восприятии лошади как символа благополучия, успешности и победы в мировоззрении представителей двух народов говорит о зоониме 马 (лошадь / конь) как об интернациональном символе. Zoonyms contribute to the discovery of the ethnic specificity of the perception of the world. They contain a certain cultural code giving meaning-forming significance to the paremia components. The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of Chinese and Russian phraseological units and paremias with zoonyms 马 (horse), 老虎 (tiger). The aim is to identify the symbolic meaning of the images of these animals in the context of two linguistic cultures. The relationship between the zoonyms that are in the base of paremias with certain historical patterns revealing the specificity of their interpretation is proven. Various methods of analysis are used to study Chinese and Russian units extracted from lexicographic sources by the method of continuous sampling and provide the opportunity to conduct a comprehensive study. The semantic characteristics of phraseological units are considered and their linguocultural interpretation is given. The analysis of the material shows the zoonym tiger is a nationally marked symbol, found in Chinese collocations. Being the most frequent component of chengyu, it acts as a symbol of power, might, unrealized talent, it is associated with danger and risk. The discovered similarity in the perception of a horse as a symbol of prosperity, success and victory in the world view of representatives of the two peoples proves the zoonym horse is an international symbol.

The development of this problematic seems promising for identifying the national and cultural characteristics of English and Uzbek phraseological units, which allows us to increase our vocabulary and, therefore, enrich our speech.This article examines the semantic-pragmatic and connotatively evaluative relations of phraseological units based on animal images in English and Uzbek languages. Zoonyms imply textual roles within a specific discourse and difference in values, stereotypes and behaviour patterns in national cultures. Methods. Studying nominations of a human with a zoonym component we used descriptive and analytical, comparative, linguistic and cultural methods and techniques. This article is devoted to the linguistic and cultural means of creating the linguistic cultureme snake in Pavel Bazhov’s tales. The purpose of the research is to show how this traditional mythological and poetic zoonym functions in the writer’s works. The article reveals the origins of Bazhov’s appeal to the zoonymic image of snake and determines its role in the writer’s literary art. The meanings that this image carries both in the Russian national picture of the world and the writer’s perception are discussed in detail. A dual nature of a snake-man is demonstrated, including its role in the lives of Bazhov’s characters.

The purpose of this work was to identify the structural and semantic features of the author’s word families WF1 (rat) and WF2 (mouse) at the present stage. The scientific novelty consists in the introduction of new lexical material into scientific use, the construction of the author’s WF1 (rat) and WF2 (mouse) on this basis and the determination of their parameters by complex structural, semantic and derivatographic analysis. The article examines the patterns of the appearance and functioning of derivatives from zoonyms in language and speech, which allow us to judge the trends in the development of the axiology of zoonyms by the beginning of the 21st century. As a result, it was found that the growth of agonality of modern society brings the rat as a symbol of evil to the forefront in comparison with the traditional zoonym “mouse” for Russian linguoculture. With the similarity of structure, the dominance of the morphological method of word formation and noun components, WF differ in volume, preference of word composition (WF1 (rat)), frequency of contamination (WF2 (mouse)). Due to the genre nature of the sources of lexical material in WF2 (mouse), there is a numerical preponderance of adjectives and adverbs. Proper names predominate in WF2 (mouse) 2.7 times more often than in WF1 (rat). Proper names of trending agonal characters are found in works of the fantasy genre, satire; hybrids with a softer character – in children’s literature, lyrical poetry.

The nature and quality of interpersonal relationships, the degree of cooperation, trust and mutual respect, the specific psychological atmosphere and the emotional connection between people are processed according to the Vidovic Bolt model (Vidovic Bolt 2011: 128–134) which includes mutual understanding, equality in relationship on one side and humiliation, scolding, gossip, deception, dissent, punishment, murder etc. The purpose of this paper is to present the diverse and rich picture of interpersonal relationships created with the help of phrasemes that have a zoonym as their component, to determine the mechanism of meaning formation in these units.

Résumé :

This article deals with English and Uzbek zoonyms which are used in anthropomorphic area as one of the factors of secondary interpretation. The article is aimed at pointing out the formation of conceptual anthropomorphic metaphor in creating a linguistic worldview as a result of secondary interpretation. Research methods used are as following: comparative analysis, cognitive modeling. The researcher shows that the above-mentioned units with secondary interpretation are expressed by metaphorical cognitive models as ANIMAL - HUMAN BEEING. Their secondary interpretation reveals emotive-evaluative characteristics of the concept human being: concerning “character of a person”, “status of a person”, “age of a person”, “the behavior of a person”, “life experience of a person”, “appearance of a person”, which is closely connected with linguacultural aspect. The author concludes that secondary interpretation of figurative meaning of zoonym metaphors is an effective tool for recreating the conceptual worldview.

We attempt to consider Russian phraseological units with the components “eyes” and “animal”, with the help of which a person is compared with a positive or negative image of domestic or wild animals. We establish that zoonymic adjectives act as a means of interpreting phraseological units, mainly such characteristics of a person’s appearance as facial features and facial ex-pressions are interpreted. We prove that the composition of phraseological units with the “eye” component for the most part contains a comparison of a person with domestic animals, which is reflected in a relative adjective. We substantiate that adjectives derived from zoonyms reflect a different degree of phraseological activity and indicate a greater degree of human interaction with domestic animals compared to wild animals. We express a judgment that entering the area of fi-gurative meanings of Russian relative adjectives in phraseological units with a component of “eyes” such as ram, ox, crawfish, lynx, pig, dog, etc. introduces new information into the circula-tion of research, but at the same time eliminates such fundamental linguistic antinomy as synchronicity and diachrony.

Comparative analysis of zoonyms, primarily the description of the national language picture of the world, is of undoubted scientific interest. After all, the comparison of any languages serves as the basis for identifying three main qualities such as commonness, similarity and difference. The article analyzes one of the most ancient images of the Kazakh and Turkish culture - the zoosymbol "wolf" through proverbs. Proverbs are a kind of oral literature with the accumulated life experience of the people. They help to understand better the national identity, interests, attitudes, lifestyle and traditions of the people who created these proverbs. The study of this type of folklore gives a deeper understanding of the characteristics and relationship of different cultures.Proverbs about animals make up a large layer in the paremiological fund of different peoples and are distinguished by great thematic diversity. The main task of the entire structure of proverbs as a whole is to show the thoughts of the people in a complete, concise and clear form. Proverbs about animals are an example of archaic brevity and figurativeness. On the basis of proverbs about wolves in the Kazakh and Turkish languages, the ethno-cultural content of the zoonym "wolf" is determined, and a comparative analysis characterizes the complete preservation of the common Turkic line in the worldview of the two peoples. The article analyzes the contextual semantics of the Kazakh zoonym "wolf" and its Turkish equivalents in proverbs. The purpose of the study is to determine the features of the linguistic representation of the concept "wolf" in the Kazakh and Turkish languages by means of a comparative analysis. As a result of the analysis, metaphorical meanings with positive and negative connotations were revealed. The semantic similarities and differences of proverbs associated with the zoonym "wolf" in the Kazakh and Turkish languages are considered.

This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the phraseological units ‘staryy volk’ [old wolf], ‘travlenyy volk’ [tricked wolf], ‘morskoy volk’ [sea wolf], ‘volkom vyt'’ [to howl like a wolf], and ‘khot' volkom voy’ [you might as well howl like a wolf], which reflect a significant image of the wolf in Russian culture. The aim of this study is to identify the interconnections among their systemiclinguistic, linguocultural, and functional characteristics. The relevance of the research is underscored by the necessity for a thorough description and explanation of the trends in the realization of the linguistic phraseological inventory in speech. The study is based on data from the Russian National Corpus. It is demonstrated that these phraseological units characterize individuals based on their personality traits and behaviors, express varying degrees of negative emotions, and exhibit diverse stylistic nuances and grammatical structures. The functioning of these idioms is influenced by their composition (the expression featuring the zoonym ‘travlenyy volk’ [tricked wolf] is rarely encountered and primarily appears in literary texts), their figurative components (the expression ‘morskoy volk’ [sea wolf] is the most frequent, losing its association with predation and reflecting a stereotypical image of a sailor), lexical meanings (in literary texts, nominal phraseological units often serve a predicative function when characterizing individuals), and stylistic properties (the expressiveness and colloquial nature of the unit ‘khot' volkom voy’ [you might as well howl like a wolf] predominantly determine its use in literary texts within character dialogue).

This article, based on cognitive dialectology principles, presents the results of research of motivational models for animal naming in Kuban region sub-dialects. It establishes synchronous and diachronous motivational characteristics of dialect zoonyms, which have direction properties and are generally similar to the ones observed in Russian sub-dialects and Common Slavic context. It identifies various motivemes different by their degree of productivity, which include age, color, habitat, sounds made by an animal, its behavioral features, means of getting food, human actions it is exposed to, etc. The article reviews personified folk names of animals and zoonym euphemisms. It demonstrates that the folk etymology can be projected not only in a synchronous plane, but in a diachronous one as well, thus showing the metalinguistic consciousness of linguistically creative sub-dialect carriers who possess some background knowledge. The article demonstrates the ethnocultural features that reflect the unique world view of Kuban sub-dialect carriers, which manifests in peculiar implementation of motivemes in folk naming of animals.

The article is devoted to the study of zoonyms functioning in the speech of the inhabitants of Troel’ga rural settlement, Kungur district (Perm Krai). Methodologically, animal names are considered in the article in line with the theory of derivation, that is, as a result of dynamic processes at different levels of the language system. It is necessary to distinguish between nicknames that appeared in the course of zoonymic transformations and those that appeared due to transformations of ready-made lexical means (products of pre-zoonymic transformations). We have found that the first ones form as a result of six types of derivation: word-forming derivation (with the formation of words that are absent in the literary language), lexical and word-forming derivation (with the formation of words that are homonymous to the words of the literary language), lexical derivation (with the use of non-derived words that are absent in the literary language: neologisms and barbarisms), lexical-semantic derivation (with the reinterpretation of the semantics of the generating word), lexical-grammatical derivation (with the functional transformation of the generating word), morphological derivation (with the grammatical transformation of the generating word). The words of the second group are included in the zoonymicon through lexical derivation (using derived and non-derived words of the literary language), lexical-semantic derivation (with semantic transformation of all-Russian words), morphological-syntactic derivation (with a change of the part of speech of all-Russian words). Within these types, certain derivational models are implemented, in particular k-suffixation, word convergence based on paronomasia, onymization and transonymization, substantivization, etc. The paper provides a conclusion about a variety of ways of forming modern zoonymicon, about the specificity of some particular derivational models for the given sample.

The article is devoted to the study of French and Georgian phraseological units with animal names/zoonyms that represent emotional attitude of the speaker towards a person or a phenomenon. We decided to study this problem on the basis of phraseological units as phraseology is the sphere which reveals each culture’s ethnic and psychological peculiarities, their customs and traditions, reflects their world vision. The analysis revealed that each culture shows its attitude towards this or that phenomenon emotionally through phraseological units with zoonyms. Such kind of phraseological units intensify emotions and beautify the speech of the speakers. Besides behind each phraseological unit with zoonyms one can see customs, traditions, temperament of different cultures. In order to find similarities or differences between phraseological units of two unrelated languages, we have collected phraseological units with zoonyms and classified them into several groups. Using observational, descriptive, psycholinguistic and contrastive methods, we have found out seven types of zoonyms with evaluative connotations in French and nine types of zoonyms with evaluative connotations in Georgian. It seems that representatives of both cultures use phraseological units with zoonyms to show their emotions. The analysis also revealed that evaluative phraseological units with zoonyms mostly carry negative connotation in both languages.

Постановка задачи. В статье ставится задача описать совокупность языковых форм, способов и функций цветообозначений, выраженных зоонимами, чтобы получить о них целостное представление в виде системы образов, определяющих жанрово-типологические характеристики старофранцузского текста. Рассматриваются два разных жанра средневекового периода: животный эпос - крупный литературный жанр, наиболее репрезентативный с точки зрения презентации зоонимов, и старофранцузские фаблио - небольшие рассказы, являющиеся представителем жанров малых литературных форм. Результаты. Рассмотрены грамматические, лексические и символические значения в системе зоономинаций-цветообозначений, их функционирование в художественном тексте указанных жанров. На основе методики лексико-грамматического анализа, релевантной для диахронических исследований, выявляются структурные модели номинаций, выраженных знаменательными частями речи. Определены способы языкового оформления, используемые в тексте каждого из анализируемых жанров. Выявлено лексическое значение зоономинаций-цветообозначений и их грамматическая структура. Проанализированы символические значения цветообозначений, выраженных зоонимами, которые рассматриваются как свидетельство экстралингвистической стороны в зооморфной репрезентации средневекового общества. Выводы. В качестве структурной формы в репрезентации цветообозначений, выраженных зоонимами в жанрах животного эпоса и фаблио, представлены однословные, двухсловные и многословные зоонимы, со стороны значения, это прямые и косвенные номинации. Посредством анализа цветовых номинаций в диахроническом художественном тексте изучаются аксиологические единицы и концепты, входящие в представление об образах персонажей животных, как аллегорий человеческой личности. Символические значения цветообозначений, связываемые с животными в разных литературных традициях, образуют единый и устойчивый комплекс мифологизированных значений. Problem statement. In the article bases on the material of diachronic texts of the medieval period. We analyze nominations from a lexico-grammatical point of view and from the point of view of symbolic meaning, color meanings expressed by nominations, where the object is zoonymic vocabulary. We consider two different genres of the medieval period: the animal epic, the most representative genre from the point of view of the representation of zoonyms, and Old French fablios - short stories that represent genres of small literary forms. Results. The article describes grammatical, lexical and symbolic meanings in the system of zoonominations with color designations, their functioning in the literary text of these genres. Basing on the methodology of lexical and grammatical analysis relevant for diachronic studies, we identify structural models of nominations expressed by significant parts of speech. The methods of linguistic design, mainly used in the text of each of the analyzed genres, are determined. The study reveals the lexical meaning of zoonominations-color meanings and their grammatical structure. It analyses the symbolic meanings of color nominations expressed by zoonyms, which are considered as evidence of the social side in the zoomorphic representation of medieval society. Conclusion. The study shows one-word and two-word zoonyms, direct and indirect nominations as a structural form in the representation of color meanings expressed by zoonyms in the genres of animal epic and old French fablio. We consider that through the analysis of color nominations in the diachronic artistic text we can see moral and axiological units and concepts included in the idea of the images of animal characters as allegories of the human personality. Symbolic meanings of color meanings associated with animals in different literary traditions form a single and stable complex of mythologized meanings. The color characteristics of animals become symbolic.

The article covers common names of animals in the Turkic languages. The name of animals occupies a special place in the system of vocabulary of the Turkic languages. They are distinguished by the presence of an ancient lexical layer and a common characteristic for the Turkic languages. Today there is a need for zoonyms to generalize, systematize, and comprehensively analyze the etymological dictionaries of Turkic languages and explanatory dictionaries of individual languages. Therefore such analyses make it possible to identify the layers of Turkic zoonyms characteristic of the general Turkic period and subsequent periods, reflect the history of their formation, personal changes, and identify new species that appeared in later epochs. They also сan become useful resources in the field of historical word formation, morphology and lexicology of the Turkic languages. In general, the study has been guided by etymological dictionaries of Turkic languages, scientific opinions on etymology of Turkic zoonyms have been analyzed. The purpose of the study is to analyze the linguistic personality of Turkic zoonyms. From the general content of the article, it is necessary to consider the subject of the study of Turkic zoonyms, analyze scientific conclusions on the etymological dictionaries of the Turkic languages regarding the zoonyms Arystan and Kabylan and to generate your own judgment. As a result of the study, it is suggested that the creation of zoonyms in the Turkic languages according to a certain model, that is, based on a general model of morphological structure, may have a certain word-formation system in the formation of animal names.

The common toad (Bufo bufo) has been the subject of many folk tales and superstitions in Western Europe, and as a result, it is characterised by numerous common names (zoonyms). However, the zoonyms of the toad and its associated traditions have remained unexplored in the Balkans, one of Europe’s linguistic hotspots. In the present study, it was attempted to fill this knowledge gap by focusing on Greece, where more than 7.700 individuals were interviewed both in the field and through online platforms, in order to document toad zoonyms from all varieties and dialects of Greek, as well as local non-Greek languages such as Arvanitika, South Slavic dialects, and Vlach. It was found that the academically unattested zoonyms of the toad provide an unmatched and previously unexplored linguistic and ethnographic tool, as they reflect the linguistic, demographic, and historical processes that shaped modern Greece. This is particularly pertinent in the 21st century, when a majority of the country’s dialects and languages are in danger of imminent extinction–and some have already gone silent. Overall, the present study shows the significance of recording zoonyms of indigenous and threatened languages as excellent linguistic and ethnographic tools that safeguard our planet’s ethnolinguistic diversity and enhance our understanding on how pre-industrial communities interacted with their local fauna. Furthermore, in contrast to all other European countries, which only possess one or only a few zoonyms for the toad, the Greek world boasts an unmatched 37 zoonyms, which attest to its role as a linguistic hotspot.

The purpose of the study is to prove on the basis of accumulated material that phraseological units with a component–the zoonym "хьэ" (dog) have a high evaluative potential and are a rich source of figurative characteristics of a person. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time the analysis of stable units with the component "хьэ" (dog) is carried out from different sides and their classification according to semantic and functional characteristics is given. The article proves that the use of zoonyms in such units is justified, because the different character traits and behaviors observed by animals are easily transferred to the human lifestyle, since animals have long played an important role in the spiritual life and traditions of native speakers. The obtained results proved that phraseological units with this component convey the national flavor, culture and lifestyle of a certain ethnic group, its worldview and attitude. In the course of the study, two groups of phraseological units with positive and negative meanings were derived. There are also units that do not have a negative connotation, and neutral expressions, which, depending on the context used, can go into both groups.

The article attempts to structure the motivational side, as well as the principles of nomination in the formation of the zoonemic layer of onomastic vocabulary. From the point of view of the onomasiological approach, the onomastic nomination is analyzed in the aspect of modeling of the nominative situation, where the specific properties of zoonyms as one of the bits of the names of their own are taken into account. Terminological definition is carried out in connection with the polyemanticity of the term “zoonym”. It is concluded that the reconstruction of the nominative situation (initial motives of the nomination) allows to interpret it as much as possible in order to further use this information in the identification of associative relations. Factors that create a nominative situation when creating a zoonim have been identified. These include both linguistic and extralinguistic: the purpose of the nomination, the age of the nominee, phonetic features of the supposed onim, the inner world of man, associative connections, the influence of zoonimical stereotype. Each component in the nomination process affects the selection of a ready-made name or the creation of a new one in its own way. Synthesis of participation of factors in creation of a nominative situation when forming a zoonim allowed to formulate the basic principles of the nomination characteristic of area of a zoonimiya and also levels on which these principles are based (actually object, object and subject). The distribution of principles by named levels is reflected. It is concluded that the main principles are the nomination of an object by its properties; Nomination as a result of the intended effect of the perception of others; Nomination as a reflection of the inner world and the nominee 's interests, emerging associations; Nomination taking into account the scale of zoonomic stereotypes. It is concluded that the creation of zoonyms is the result of a conscious strategy of the nominee, which reflects the peculiarities of the national specificity of thinking and relevant associative ties in the process of creation.

Résumé :

Proverbs and sayings were originally used as auxiliary material for the analysis of specific cultural concepts based on linguistic units that generalize certain meanings. Currently, proverbs and sayings are considered as a linguistic unit that characterizes the ethnocultural views of people in the environment, traditional stereotypes and ideas emerging in society.Verbal units are used to describe cultural codes, mentalistic worldviews, stereotypical ideas, moral and ethical values of the people, etc., since they are continuers of the ongoing life of the nation, and also preserve the spiritual values necessary for the nation and mentality, self-awareness, identity , sacred words of wisdom passed down as an inheritance.This article compares zoonymic proverbs and sayings of the kazakh and chinese languages, belong-ing to two different language families. By studying proverbs and sayings on the topic of zoonyms in two languages, we determine the cultural and linguistic features of the kazakh and chinese peoples. In the course of a comparative study of languages, one can determine the pattern of the degree of their similarity or difference from each other, and deeply understand the national character of the language. The importance of studying this issue using materials from two languages is very useful when teaching chinese to foreign students, since through linguistic and cultural information, foreign students acquire communicative competence, distinguish their semantics and character when using proverbs and sayings in the classroom.
