Aim to analyse the morphological and anatomical structure of the herb Astragalus zingeri, identifying the diagnostic signs of plant raw material. Material and methods. The object of the study was plant raw materials the herb Astragalus zingeri Korsh., harvested in July, 2020, in the Saratov region, Tatishchevsky district, nearby the Kurdyum station, during the mass flowering period. The State Pharmacopoeia XIV standard was used for macro and microscopic analysis. Results. The macroscopic features of the raw material are: pronounced ribbing of the stem, a small number of pairs of leaflets (46) of an unpaired pinnate leaf, as well as the size of the leaf plate, more pronounced trichomes on the bottom-side of the leaf, shortened, capitate, dense racemes with a pale purple corolla and a long flag. The characteristic microdiagnostic distinguishing features include: sinuous walls of leaf epidermal cells with numerous anomocytic stomata; slightly sinuous walls of the cells of the calyx epidermis; trichomes of the outer side of the calyx with T-shaped hairs with characteristic outgrowths of the cuticle. Conclusion. The revealed macro- and microscopic diagnostic features of the herb Astragalus zingeri make it possible to identify the plant raw material and distinguish it from similar species.

Résumé :
AbstractThis article analyzes Turkish forestry as a site of nation building. To understand the ways in which forestry shaped ideas of the state and citizenship, I explore the history and memories of the forestry enterprise, Zingal, from the early 20th century to the present. I argue that the conflicting narratives around Zingal in archives and memory are symptoms of the contradictions inherent to nationalist modernity. I also reveal the continuation of similar contradictions in the 21st century by showing how citizens’ discourse of resentment over deindustrialization can coexist with their objection to a potential nuclear industry.

Résumé :
Zingeria (Poaceae) is a small genus that includes Z. biebersteiniana, a diploid species with the lowest chromosome number known in plants (2n = 4) as well as hexaploid Z. kochii and tetraploid Z. pisidica, and/or Z. trichopoda species. The relationship between these species and the other low-chromosomes species Colpodium versicolor are unclear. To explore the intragenomic polymorphism and genome composition of these species we examined the sequences of the internal transcribed spacer 1 of the 35S rRNA gene via NGS approach. Our study revealed six groups of ribotypes in Zingeria species. Their distribution confirmed the allopolyploid nature of Z. kochii, whose probable ancestors were Colpodium versicolor and Z. pisidica. Z. pisidica has 98% of rDNA characteristic only for this species, and about 0.3% of rDNA related to that of Z. biebersteiniana. We assume that hexaploid Z. kochii is either an old allopolyploid or a homodiploid that has lost most of the rRNA genes obtained from Z. biebersteiniana. In Z. trichopoda about 81% of rDNA is related to rDNA of Z. biebersteiniana and 19% of rDNA is derived from Poa diaphora sensu lato. The composition of the ribotypes of the two plants determined by a taxonomy specialist as Z. pisidica and Z. trichopoda is very different. Two singleton species are proposed on this base with ribotypes as discriminative characters. So, in all four studied Zingeria species, even if the morphological difference among the studied species was modest, the genomic constitution was significantly different, which suggests that these are allopolyploids that obtained genomes from different ancestors.

Résumé :
In a recent article in Social Science History, Flanigan and Zingale reviewed the old problem of inferring individual relationships from aggregate data, cast doubt on Goodman’s ecological regression technique as a method of estimating such relationships, and contended that the specification analysis approach to the issue was misleading. Instead, they argued that an ad hoc procedure suggested by Shively in a 1974 article was superior to Goodman’s point estimates because it avoids dubious assumptions and forces investigators to make their premises clear. Comparing results from analyses of state-level data on major party voting in the 1968 and 1972 presidential elections with figures from the Michigan surveys, they concluded, to their satisfaction at least, that the assumptions required for ecological regression were badly violated and that it was preferable in this and other cases to use the system that Shively, without making any grandiose claims for it, had originated (Flanigan and Zingale, 1985; Goodman, 1959; Hanushek et al., 1974; Shively, 1974; Langbein and Lichtman, 1978).

Résumé :
Urginea zambesiaca Baker (1873: 223) (Hyacinthaceae, Urgineoideae) was originally described from Mozambique and has been erroneously taxonomically interpreted in recent decades (e.g. Polhill 1962, Kativu & Drummond 1994, Manning & Goldblatt 2018, Manning 2019). Among those interpretations, the recently described Zingela pooleyorum Crouch et al. (2018: 36) has been reduced to its synonymy (Manning 2019); the inappropriateness of that step requires clarification.

In 1895, Aby Warburg drew attention to ways in which information of theatre historical significance can be gained from visual images, in an article which outlines a clear methodology for their evaluation as historical documents, based on a comparative approach in the context of the surviving documentation concerning the event under investigation as a whole, the Florentine intermedi of 1589. ‘Probably the most described theatrical production in history’, these intermedi were especially devised to embellish dramatic performances by professional commedia dell'arte actors (La Zingana and Pazzia of Isabella) and amateur players (La Pellegrina) which were intended by the Medici as the greatest attraction of the celebrations in honour of the wedding of Ferdinande I de'Medici to Christine de Lorraine, and recognized by both contemporaries and historians as a highpoint of European court festival.

Résumé :
Germination of Hemileia vastatrix uredospores on crude water extracts of zinger and turmeric rhizome and clove and Piper betle leaves. Coffee leaf rust caused by H. vastatrix especially on Arabica coffee is one of most important diseases in coffee and conventional control methods of leaf coffee rust is still unsatisfactory. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of crude water extract on the germination of H. vastatrix uredospores. The study was conducted from January to September 2004 in the Laboratory of Plant Pathology at Unila. In each test, treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Crude water extract was prepared by homogenizing 100 g of material in 100 ml sterilized distilled water. After being passed through four layers of sterilized cheesecloth, the mixture was defined as the aliquot (100% extract) and dilutions were made with sterile distilled water to obtain concentrations of 2.5 to 10%. Each of four materials (zinger, turmeric, clove, and Piper betle) was tested separately in five aliquot concentration levels. One ml of each extract was mixed with 0.25 ml of uredospora suspension (4 x 105 per ml), and 0.2 ml of the mixture was incubated. The variable was germinated uredospora (%) that was determined under a mikroscope. The results show that significant reduction in spore germination occurred by turmeric, clove, and P. betle extracts at > 2.5% and by zinger extract at > 5%. Some uredospora exposed to plant extract germinated abnormally: germ tubes shorten, swollen, or malform.

The grass Zingeria biebersteiniana is one of only four angiosperm and two monocotyledonous species known with 2n = 4. Its 4C nuclear DNA amount, 7.4 pg, is similar to that of Haplopappus gracilis (4C = 8.2 pg), a dicotyledonous species with 2n = 4. Studies of the karyotype of Z. biebersteiniana using the electron microscope three-dimensional serial thin section reconstruction method showed it to be a highly suitable material in which to examine chromosome placement. Although the two chromosome types have very similar relative volumes (53 and 47%, respectively) and arm volume ratios (1.08 and 1.13, respectively), nevertheless, each chromosome are each arm could be reliably distinguished in single reconstructed cells at each stage of mitosis. Thus, the short arm of chromosome 1 was identified by its unique lighter stained nucleolus organizer region, while the short arm of chromosome 2 was distinguished from the long arm by its relatively smaller arm volume. The two chromosomes and their arms were also easily distinguished at mitotic metaphase in the light microscope by two diagnostic C-bands, one at the telomere of the short arm of chromosome 1 and the other near to, but not at, the short arm telomere of chromosome 2.Key words: Zingeria biebersteiniana (2n = 4), low chromosome number.

Résumé :
This study aimed to evaluate the soil–structure interaction of three historical buildings at the University of Catania using ambient noise. The results point out the different oscillation modes of Villa Cerami and Palazzo Boscarino buildings sharing a side. They also show different damping values, which are probably linked to the different rigidities of the structures, since one is a masonry building and the other is a reinforced concrete building without earthquake-resistant design. Villa Zingali Tetto, a reinforced concrete building without earthquake-resistant design, showed significant torsional effects, which may be related to the geometrical and material irregularities of the structure. Comparison of the buildings’ fundamental periods and site frequencies did not show potential soil–structure resonance effects. Modelling of the local seismic response confirms the obtained experimental site frequencies, suggesting that there are no important amplification factors. On the other hand, from both of the computed Spectral and Peak Ground Accelerations for an Mw 7.3 earthquake, intensity values were estimated for which Villa Cerami could suffer heavy structural damage, and Palazzo Boscarino and Villa Zingali Tetto very heavy non-structural damage. Additional engineering investigations, aimed at reducing seismic vulnerability, are necessary to improve the safety of these heritage buildings considering they are also used for educational purposes.

In the course of resolving the identity of plants usually named ‘Drimia indica’ from KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, molecular and morphological data revealed the identity of more than one taxon carrying this name. Our studies support the establishment of a new urgineoid genus, Zingela gen. nov., to accommodate a species (Z. pooleyorum) collected and illustrated some 50 years ago, but never validly published. We here provide data on its morphology, ecology, and distribution.

Résumé :
Abstract In this paper we obtain a formula for the number of rational degree d curves in ℙ3 having a cusp, whose image lies in a ℙ2 and that passes through r lines and s points (where r + 2s = 3 d + 1). This problem can be viewed as a family version of the classical question of counting rational cuspidal curves in ℙ2, which has been studied earlier by Z. Ran ([13]), R. Pandharipande ([12]) and A. Zinger ([16]). We obtain this number by computing the Euler class of a relevant bundle and then finding out the corresponding degenerate contribution to the Euler class. The method we use is closely based on the method followed by A. Zinger ([16]) and I. Biswas, S. D’Mello, R. Mukherjee and V. Pingali ([1]). We also verify that our answer for the characteristic numbers of rational cuspidal planar cubics and quartics is consistent with the answer obtained by N. Das and the first author ([2]), where they compute the characteristic number of δ-nodal planar curves in ℙ3 with one cusp (for δ ≤ 2).

Résumé :
Analysis of the grass Zingeria trichopoda (2n = 8, 2C = 5.3 pg) revealed a dynamic evolution with the following characteristics. (i) Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) demonstrates that Z. trichopoda evolved from an interspecific hybrid involving a species like contemporary Zingeria biebersteiniana (2n = 4) and a second species with a similar low number of chromosomes. The nucleus of Z. trichopoda is spatially organized at the genome level and the two parental genomes occupy distinct and separate domains of lateral arrangements. (ii) The copy number of the Z. biebersteiniana specific pericentromeric tandem repeat family Zbcen1 is drastically reduced in Z. trichopoda. (iii) GISH in combination with labeled rDNA sequences simultaneously discriminated the two parental genomes and the corresponding 5S and 45S rDNA sites. Hence, following allopolyploidization of Z. trichopoda the Z. biebersteiniana like parental chromosomes probably underwent drastic loss of 45S rDNA. This could have arisen either through the loss ofZ. biebersteiniana derived 45S rDNA or through Z. trichopoda genome-wide homogenization of Z. biebersteiniana type 45S rDNA and subsequent elimination of 45S rDNA loci from Z. biebersteiniana derived chromosomes. Finally, 5S rDNA loci are present in both subgenomes of Z. trichopoda and the chromosomal position of these loci is similar for both Z. biebersteiniana and the Z. biebersteiniana like parental genome of Z. trichopoda.Key words: genome evolution, polyploidy, ribosomal DNA, Poaceae.
