Résumé :
Abstract Purpose To assess breast imaging radiologists’ perceptions of the adequacy of provider–patient discussions regarding the benefits and risks of screening mammography and supplemental screening in women with elevated risk and dense breasts. Methods A 36-item questionnaire developed by the Society of Breast Imaging Patient Care and Delivery Task Force was distributed electronically to Society of Breast Imaging members to evaluate patient communication, education, and screening practices. Data from the 11 items specifically pertaining to screening practices were analyzed. Results The response rate was 14% (275/1992). Seventy-four percent of survey respondents perceived provider–patient discussions regarding mammography screening guidelines as inadequate, and they agreed that provider–patient discussions regarding screening guidelines (82%) and supplemental screening for increased breast density (74%) should be standardized. Only 38% indicated that mammography screening guidelines are officially endorsed by their institution. Similarly, 37% reported that recommendations were up to the primary provider. Although most respondents include information about breast density in lay letters (73%) and radiology reports (89%), many feel that further patient education regarding breast density, supplemental screening, risk assessment, and screening guidelines should be performed by radiologists, and they are willing to provide additional patient education in these areas in practice. Conclusions Survey respondents perceived current provider–patient discussions about the risks and benefits of breast cancer mammography screening and supplemental screening as inadequate and felt that standards should be developed. Respondents reported a willingness to take on patient education as part of their daily practice. These findings could inform future initiatives for radiologists to contribute to enhancing provider–patient education.

Résumé :
Five wheat genotypes and their hybrids under four salinity (sea water) levels were considered for tissue culture and randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). The genotypes and the hybrids differed in their ability to callus induction, callus fresh weight and regeneration. Among the genotypes, Sakha 93 (P1) followed by Line WB19 (P5) was the most tolerant genotypes for salinity and gave the highest growth rate (46.6%) and (46.3%), respectively while Giza 168 (P3) was the most sensitive one to salinity with lowest growth rate (26.6%). All hybrids scored higher averages in callus growth rate than their parents. P1 × P5 followed by P1 × P2 and P1 × P4 produced the highest growth rate 75.6, 59.1 and 52.6% over hybrids while P3 × P4 had the lowest rate 28.5%, respectively. The hybrid P1 × P5 gave the highest percentage of plant regeneration over all genotypes and their hybrids followed P2 × P5, P1 × P2 and P4 × P5. The highest number of RAPD specific markers scored for hybrid P1 × P5 was (6 markers), while Line WB19 (P5), P1 × P2 and P2 × P5 were (4 markers). These markers can be verified as the RAPD markers associated with salt tolerance.Plant Tissue Cult. & Biotech. 26(1): 25-36, 2016 (June)

Résumé :
Two Gram-stain-negative, gently curved rod-shaped isolates (WBE14T and WBE19), recovered from wild bird faecal samples in the city of Valdivia (Southern Chile) were subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. Results of a genus-specific PCR indicated that these isolates belonged to the genus Helicobacter . This was further confirmed by a phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA, 60 kDa heat-shock protein (cpn60) and gyrase subunit B (gyrB) genes, where both strains formed a novel phylogenetic line within this genus. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of strain WBE14T to the type strains of all other species of the genus Helicobacter examined ranged from 89.4 to 97.0 %; Helicobacter brantae and Helicobacter pametensis were the most closely related species. However, on the basis of the protein-coding genes Helicobacter pullorum and Helicobacter canadensis are the most closely related species. These data, together with their different morphological and biochemical characteristics, revealed that these strains represent a novel species, for which the name Helicobacter valdiviensis sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain WBE14T ( = CECT 8410T = LMG 27920T).

Résumé :
Arabidopsis plants exposed to the antibiotic kanamycin (Kan) display altered metal homeostasis. Further, mutation of the WBC19 gene leads to increased sensitivity to kanamycin and changes in iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) uptake. Here we propose a model that explain this surprising relationship between metal uptake and exposure to Kan. We first use knowledge about the metal uptake phenomenon to devise a transport and interaction diagram on which we base the construction of a dynamic compartment model. The model has three pathways for loading Fe and its chelators into the xylem. One pathway, involving an unknown transporter, loads Fe as a chelate with citrate (Ci) into the xylem. This transport step can be significantly inhibited by Kan. In parallel, FRD3 transports Ci into the xylem where it can chelate with free Fe. A third critical pathway involves WBC19, which transports metal-nicotianamine (NA), mainly as Fe-NA chelate, and possibly NA itself. To permit quantitative exploration and analysis, we use experimental time series data to parameterize this explanatory and predictive model. Its numerical analysis allows us to predict responses by a double mutant and explain the observed differences between data from wildtype, mutants and Kan inhibition experiments. Importantly, the model provides novel insights into metal homeostasis by permitting the reverse-engineering of mechanistic strategies with which the plant counteracts the effects of mutations and of the inhibition of iron transport by kanamycin.
