Centrali nella riflessione gli esiti delle ferite del divorzio e le possibilità che, una volta sanate, le stesse possano offrire ai tanti padri disposti a rimettersi in gioco.

La thèse a comme but principal de mettre en évidence la multiplicité des références à l'anthropophagie qui se trouvent dans les témoignages historiographiques, littéraires, théologiques, agiographiques, juridiques et pharmacologiques à partir de l'antiquité tardive jusqu'au début de l'époque moderne. Devant les interdictions plus ou moins explicites concernant les pratiques de cannibalisme au Moyen Age, cette recherche s'interroge en première instance sur les questions herméneutiques qui se posent devant une telle profusion de récits d'anthropophagie. A travers un parcours qui associe les res et les narrata, l'étude cherche à expliquer les contradictions inhérentes au phénomène, analysant d'une partie les contingences politiques et sociales qui ont rendu possible certaines pratiques, de l'autre le langage, gestes et images qui ont véhiculé les topoï de dévoration sur le plan discursif et idéologique de la représentation du social
The, main purpose of this thesis is to highlight the multiple references to anthropophagy - both as practice and as a metaphorical and literary suggestion - contained in historiography, theology; memoir, hagiography, legal documents and court records, and medical-pharmacological literature. Given the more or less explicit prohibitions imposed against cannibalistic practices throughout the Middle Ages, the study focuses primarily on the hermeneutic issues raised by such a substantial quantity of anthropophagous contexts and episodes. Following the twofold path of res and narrata, the research tries to account for the contradictions inherent in the phenomenon, analyzing on the one hand the political and social circumstances that made certain practices possible, and on the other hand the language, the imagery and the use of metaphor (verbal, gestural and visual), which conveyed the topic of devouring, in terms of both discourse and the ideology of social representation

Le mythe de Médée est un des mythes les plus anciens que la tradition nous a transmis, mais, paradoxalement, c'est peut-être le plus “moderne” et scabreux entre les mythes connus. La thèse s'occupera d'abord de l'œuvre de Christine de Pizan, “La Cité des Dames” et l'image de Médée qui émerge: la terrible reine devient dans les pages de Christine un symbole du savoir et de la loyauté féminine par rapport à l'autre, qui n'est pas seulement fidélité amoureuse mais c'est l'abandon total du corps et de l'âme. On mettra en relation la “Cité” de Christine avec le “De mulieribus claris” de Boccace et on cherchera à démontrer que l'œuvre de Christine n'est pas une traduction, un plagiat de la plus célèbre œuvre de notre écrivain et poète. Dans la deuxième partie de la thèse, je vais analyser la version d'une autre femme spéciale; démontrant que les visages de Médée sont nombreux et variés: la Midea de Irina Possamai. Irina, est, en effet, une des premières librettistes italiennes et a choisi – comme Christine - de raconter dans un opéra lyrique sa Médée qui, ce n’est pas par hasard , qu’elle l’a appelé Midea
The Medea myth is one of the most ancient that tradition has handed to us, but paradoxically, is perhaps the most 'modern' and scabrous among those ever known.For her mysterious character and, in some aspects, demonic, Medea has enjoyed vast fortune in ancient times as well as in modern and contemporary art.We will focus the dissertation on Christine de Pizan’s text, La Cité des Dames and the figure of Medea that emerges: the terrible Medea becomes, in the writing of Christine, the symbol of knowledge and female loyalty towards others, which is not only faithfulness in love, but total availability of body and soul. We will link the Christine’s Cité with Boccaccio’s De mulieribus claris and we will argue that Christine’s work is not a translation, a plagiarism, of the most famous work of our writer and poet. In the second part of the thesis, I will analyze the version of another special woman; showing that the faces of Medea are numerous and diverse: the Midea of Irina Possamai. L'elaborato si prefissa di indagare quali problematiche e opportunità si accompagnino allo studio del mondo ebraico nell'Europa carolingia, una fase in cui le fonti a noi pervenute permettono di individuare elementi di originalità rispetto sia alle fasi precedenti che a quelle posteriori della storia medievale. Il primo ambito di indagine concerne le figure di Isacco, ambasciatore di Carlo Magno alla corte di Harun al-Rashid, Bodo-Eleazar, un diacono apostata convertitosi all’ebraismo e i mercanti protagonisti delle formule di Ludovico il Pio. L’analisi, successivamente, si incentrerà su un’opera sì discussa ma imprescindibile nello studio delle relazioni tra l’ambito religioso-culturale ebraico e l’Impero Carolingio, A Jewish Princedom in Feudal France di Arthur J. Zuckerman, che analizza, alla luce delle fonti classiche per lo studio del medioevo, quali gli Annali del Regno dei Franchi o gli Annali Bertiniani, e di fonti in ebraico di difficile accesso per molti studiosi del periodo, la storia degli ebrei nella Francia meridionale durante l’età Carolingia. Un capitolo sarà dedicato ai Radaniti, o meglio, al commercio intercontinentale e il ruolo dei mercanti Radaniti, di fede ebraica, durante la seconda metà del I millennio. Si analizzeranno le rotte e le merci che contribuirono a lasciar traccia di questi mercanti nelle fonti e come queste possano contribuire a illuminare lo studio della storia ebraica in contesto carolingio. Gli ultimi due capitoli dell’elaborato verteranno rispettivamente sull’analisi della posizione della legge e della Chiesa nei confronti dell’ebraismo in età altomedievale, con particolare attenzione all’età carolingia.

La pervasività dei sistemi informatici nella vita di ogni giorno richiede di riporre grande attenzione verso il tema della sicurezza informatica, specialmente in tutti quei contesti in cui la violazione di questi sistemi può portare a conseguenze sociali rilevanti. Questo è particolarmente importante nel caso applicativo di controllo automatico degli accessi basato su sistemi di riconoscimento biometrici. Recentemente, gli attacchi basati su tecniche di face morphing hanno suscitato l'interesse della comunità scientifica. É stato dimostrato, infatti, che questi rappresentano una seria e concreta minaccia in varie applicazioni basate sulla verifica automatica dell'identità attraverso sistemi di riconoscimento facciale. Lo scenario considerato è quello dei controlli realizzati nei gate presenti all'interno degli aeroporti internazionali che, per velocizzare la circolazione dei passeggeri, verificano automaticamente se il volto di un soggetto corrisponde a quello contenuto all'interno del suo passaporto elettronico (eMRTD). Attraverso una procedura di morphing due soggetti possono condividere lo stesso documento legale violando il principio fondamentale di collegamento biunivoco tra un individuo e il suo documento identificativo. A questo proposito un soggetto senza precedenti penali potrebbe richiedere, nelle strutture preposte, il passaporto elettronico presentando una foto morphed con il volto di un criminale che successivamente potrà utilizzare il documento per eludere i controlli d'identità. Per questi motivi è forte il bisogno di algoritmi capaci di rilevare in maniera accurata e automatica immagini morphed. L'obiettivo di questo lavoro di tesi è quello di comprendere meglio il problema del face morphing e affrontarlo, nei diversi scenari, proponendo nuovi algoritmi basati su deep learning, ponendo particolare attenzione alla realizzazione di esperimenti rilevanti e sull'analisi critica dei metodi proposti e dei risultati sperimentali ottenuti.

I volti sono tra gli stimoli visivi più rilevanti per l’uomo poiché comunicano aspetti chiave per le interazioni sociali. In psicologia, i meccanismi di percezione dei volti vengono tradizionalmente studiati mostrando ai partecipanti fotografie di volti e registrando le loro risposte comportamentali e neurofisiologiche. Recentemente, in alcuni studi le fotografie sono state sostituite da volti virtuali creati attraverso programmi di grafica digitale. Tuttavia, è stato suggerito che questi stimoli potrebbero essere valutati ed elaborati diversamente dai volti reali. Alcuni studi hanno ipotizzato che queste differenze potrebbero essere legate sia al grado di realismo, definito dalla qualità grafica, con cui vengono creati i volti virtuali, sia all'esperienza degli individui con questi stimoli, in termini di frequenza di esposizione. I risultati sono limitati e inconsistenti e non è tuttora chiaro qualora l’utilizzo dei volti virtuali in studi sperimentali rappresenti una valida alternativa ai volti reali. Questa tesi di dottorato mira a fornire una visione più approfondita del ruolo del realismo e dell’esperienza sulla valutazione (Capitolo 1 e Capitolo 2) e il riconoscimento (Capitolo 3) dei volti virtuali. Nel Capitolo 1 viene descritta una revisione della letteratura condotta per stabilire il legame tra i volti virtuali e l’effetto uncanny valley, secondo cui le entità artificiali antropomorfe altamente realistiche scaturiscono delle sensazioni di spiacevolezza e repulsione in chi le osserva. I risultati hanno confermato che i volti virtuali vengono giudicati più inquietanti e meno familiari dei volti reali e che ciò potrebbe derivare da delle discrepanze nel livello di realismo dei volti virtuali percepite dagli osservatori. La revisione ha inoltre sottolineato che, ad oggi, quasi nessun studio ha considerato l’esperienza dei partecipanti con i personaggi virtuali come possibile interpretazione dei risultati. Nel Capitolo 2 sono presentati i risultati di un’indagine condotta sulla valutazione di volti reali e virtuali che indicano che questi ultimi siano giudicati meno rassicuranti, piacevoli, attraenti, affidabili e memorabili dei volti reali. I dati dell’indagine hanno inoltre evidenziato che un livello di realismo più basso dei volti virtuali influisce negativamente su questi giudizi e che ciò è vero specialmente per i partecipanti con una minor frequenza d’esposizione ai personaggi virtuali. Nel Capitolo 3 sono esposti i dati relativi all’accuratezza con cui vengono riconosciuti volti virtuali e reali in un compito di memoria. I risultati hanno evidenziato che i volti virtuali sono riconosciuti meno accuratamente rispetto ai volti reali e che questo effetto è maggiore per i volti virtuali meno realistici. Questa differenza è stata riscontrata negli individui con poca esperienza con i personaggi digitali e non negli esperti. Complessivamente questa tesi conferma che, ad oggi, i volti virtuali non rappresentino un'alternativa adeguata ai volti reali e che i ricercatori dovrebbero essere cauti nell’utilizzare questi stimoli in esperimenti inerenti alla percezione dei volti. Tuttavia, alla luce dei risultati sul realismo, si può ipotizzare che i progressi della grafica digitale possano risolvere questo problema riducendo le discrepanze tra volti virtuali e reali. Infine, sul piano dell’esperienza è inoltre ipotizzabile che l’elaborazione dei volti virtuali beneficerà della crescente esposizione ad entità digitali nella nostra vita quotidiana.
Faces are among the most relevant visual stimuli for humans as they communicate key aspects essential for social interactions. In psychology, the mechanisms of face perception are traditionally investigated by showing individuals photographs of faces and measuring their behavioral and neurophysiological responses. Recent studies have replaced photographs with virtual faces generated using digital graphics programs. However, it has been suggested that these stimuli might be evaluated differently and elaborated less efficiently than real faces. Some researchers have hypothesized that these differences might be related either to the realism, in terms of render quality, of the virtual faces or to individuals’ expertise with virtual face, in terms of frequency of exposure to these stimuli. However, results are limited and inconsistent and it remains unclear whether virtual faces represent suitable alternatives to real faces in experimental studies. This doctoral dissertation aimed to provide a deeper insight into the role of realism and expertise on virtual faces' evaluation (Chapter 1 and Chapter 2) and recognition (Chapter 3). Chapter 1 described a literature review conducted to establish the link between virtual faces and the uncanny valley effect, according to which highly realistic artificial entities evoke an adverse reaction in the viewer. The results confirmed that virtual faces were judged eerier and less familiar than real faces and that these differences mainly resulted from observers’ perceived inconsistencies in the level of realism of virtual faces. The review further revealed that, so far, nearly no studies considered participants’ expertise with digital characters when analyzing observers’ evaluations of virtual faces. Chapter 2 presented the results of a survey that collected individuals’ judgments of real and virtual faces. Results indicated that virtual faces were judged less reassuring, likable, attractive, trustworthy, and memorable than real faces. The survey also showed that a lower level of realism of virtual faces negatively affected these judgments. This result was especially true for participants being less frequently exposed to digital characters. Chapter 3 presented data on the accuracy with which virtual and real faces were recognized in a memory task. The results showed that virtual faces were recognized less accurately than real faces and that this effect was greater for less realistic virtual faces. This difference was found in individuals with little experience with digital characters and not in experts. Overall, this thesis confirmed that, to date, virtual faces are not an adequate alternative to real faces and that researchers should be cautious when using these stimuli in experiments involving face processing. However, based on the results on realism, it can be hypothesized that advances in digital graphics may overcome this issue by reducing the discrepancies between virtual and real faces. Finally, based on the results on expertise, it is also plausible that virtual faces’ evaluations and elaboration will benefit from the increasing exposure to digital entities in our everyday life.

Parlare di recupero e valorizzazione dei centri storici può essere quanto mai attuale in un’epoca in cui, forse per la prima volta, si mettono in discussione alcuni modelli insediativi e di sviluppo volti prevalentemente alla espansione delle aree urbane. A cinquant’anni di distanza da quando si è cominciato a parlare in modo organico di centri storici, in un periodo caratterizzato da una delle più gravi crisi economiche globali dopo quella del 1929, com’è cambiato il rapporto tra le città e i propri Centri Storici? Come sono visti i centri storici da chi li abita e da chi non li abita? Quale può essere allora il ruolo potenziale delle nuove tecnologie per la tutela e la valorizzazione dei Centri Storici? Le nuove tecnologie possono non solamente cambiare significativamente la qualità di chi abita e vive nei centri storici ma anche aumentare la competitività degli stessi, aumentando così la loro capacità di attrarre risorse umane e finanziarie e favorendone lo sviluppo economico e socio-culturale. Tuttavia, come si coniuga il valore della storia con le mutevoli esigenze della vita contemporanea? Quali le potenziali applicazioni delle nuove tecnologie per il miglioramento della vita nei centri antichi? Il Centro Storico costituisce un ambito territoriale estremamente delicato, con una precisa identità urbanistica e un elevato valore storico e testimoniale riferibile sia al tessuto urbano, sia a elementi del patrimonio edilizio di rilevante valore, sia ai suoi abitanti. Ma può in realtà rivelarsi una risorsa importante in un progetto di trasformazione virtuosa dell'intera compagine urbana, rafforzandone sia l'identità propria che la capacità di attrazione verso l'esterno. E le nuove tecnologie in questo progetto possono assumere un ruolo determinante. Talk about recovery and valorisation of the historic centers can be as timely as ever at a time when, perhaps for the first time, are put into question some settlement and development models principally aimed to the expansion of urban areas. After fifty years since it been started talking about in an organic way of historical centers, in a period characterized by one of the most serious global economic crisis after the one of 1929, as the relationship between the city and its historical centers has changed? As the historical centers are seen by those who live there and those who do not live in them? Which then can be the potential role of new technologies for the protection and valorisation of historical centers? The new technologies can not only significantly change the quality whose inhabits and lives in the historic centers but also increase the competitiveness of the same, thus increasing their ability to attract human and financial resources and promoting the economic development and socio-cultural. However, how it combines the value of history with the changing needs of contemporary life? What are the potential applications of new technologies for the improvement of life in the ancient centers? The historical center constitutes a territorial field extremely delicate, with a specific urban identity and an high historical and testimonial value referable both to the urban texture, both to elements the building heritage of significant value, both to its inhabitants. But it can actually become an important resource in a virtuous transformation project of the whole urban structure, strengthening both the its own identity that the attractiveness to the outside. And the new technologies in this project can play a decisive role.

Abstract This paper summarizes thermal modeling work performed on the Motorola Carbon Monoxide (CO) chemical sensor. Gas sensors need low cost reliable packages, good thermal operation, and low power consumption. The goal is to provide a validated thermal model of a gas sensor and its package and develop a sensor design capability with reduced design cycle time. Due to the complex structure of the sensor package, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool was used to analyze the heat transfer and fluid flow within the package. Based on the validated model, parametric studies on filter location and package orientation were performed. In order to minimize the influence of humidity, the sensor is toggled between high and low temperatures by applying 5 volts for 5 seconds of heating, and 1 volt for 10 seconds of cooling. Transient thermal analysis was also performed to predict the temperature response of various components. A detailed description of the thermal model and its results are described in the paper.

For uniform deformation, based on bulk microfabrication with isotropic etching, two types of hemispherical electrostatic micro deformable focusing mirror are designed. One of the focusing mirrors is center-anchored, and the other is circular clamped. Using theory of shells, theoretical solution of deformation under uniform electrostatic force is derived. For more detail analysis of the electrostatic and elastic forces coupling problem, finite element is used to analyze the deformation of the mirror structure. Applying electrostatic force, the profile of micro focusing mirror will be not the spherical and change to become a curve like parabolic surface. Using least square method, the curve is fitted as a parabolic curve and the focal lengths of the focusing micro mirror are obtained. The result shows the focal length without applying electrostatic force can be determined by different micro mirror radius and isotropic etching depth. When the electrostatic forces are applied, the deformation and the focal length change differently between the two types of focusing mirror. For circular clamped micro mirror, the deformation is larger near circular clamped region and uniform in the center regime. Therefore, the relation of focal length and applying voltage is a concave curve with minimum values. That is, the focusing length decreasing as the applying voltage increasing and reaches a limit values. When the applying voltage continues increasing after reaching the minimum value, the focal length increases fast. It also shows the thicker structure layer needs larger applied voltage. But the focal length changes in larger stroke. The pull-in voltage is about 100 volt when the structure layer are both 2 μm. However, the pull-in voltage increases nonlinearly as gap increasing. When the gap increases to 4 μm, the pull-in voltage is about 300 volt. The result shows center-anchored micro mirror has better performance. The deformation is more uniform and the focal length increases nonlinearly as applied voltage increasing. It is found the stroke of focal length is larger and the applied voltage is less. The results shows even when the gap and structure layer is 4 and 2 μm, the pull-in voltage is about 62 volts. However, the stoke changes from 990 to about 1320 μm when applying voltage is from 0 to 60 volts. Therefore, with low applied voltage and large focal length stoke, the center-anchored micro mirror has good performance.

Research shows that failures in the standardization process often result from communication and organizational issues between those involved in the committee and the user community. This is mainly caused by two issues: first, a lack of integration of available standards development tools with communication and social interfaces; and second, to the difficulties inherent in organizing and collating information in a semantically meaningful manner. To this effect, the authors present a Visual Ontological Language for Technical Standards (VOLTS). VOLTS is a prototype environment that seeks to address the latter problem introduced above. In VOLTS, standards developers visually create standards within a network of information. VOLTS builds upon a tool developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) called the NIST Ontological Visualization Interface for Standards (NOVIS), which presented a novel method for visualizing the content and connections of standards, but lacked the ability to allow users to alter that information. VOLTS focuses on providing users with a process that allows for verification and validation at all stages of development. To that effect, VOLTS incorporates research done by NIST on building a Framework for Analysis Comparison, and Test of Standards (FACTS). The examples presented herein use the openly available standards World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Ontology Language (OWL) 2 and the Data Mining Group’s (DMG) Predictive Model Markup Language (PMML) to demonstrate the VOLTS process and methodology. Future work discussed will seek to address the former problem introduced above.

Micro thermal-electrostatic actuator devices are widely used in MEMS. However, the effect of structure sizes on deformation and fatigue is seldom discussed. In this work, the effect of structure sizes on deformation and fatigue is investigated. In this device, two beams called hot and cold arms with different width under applied voltage will have different elongation for there different width and the structure will cause the structure laterally bent. Theoretical solutions of deformation and stresses are derived. And numerical methods of finite element are used to analyze for details. The stresses obtained from the finite element are used in fatigue analysis. In the fatigue analysis, high-cycle fatigue model is used as the load in the elastic regime. Considering the accumulation of damage by fatigue being linear, Miner theory is used to estimate the life of the thermal-electrostatic devices under high-cycle fatigue. The result shows with the same length and flexible beam length connecting the hot and cold arms, the large width will cause larger displacement and stresses. However, the difference is not significant. It is also found that as the applied voltage increasing, the displacement and stresses will increase nonlinearly. With the same width and flexible beam length, the larger length will cause larger stresses and small displacement. For fatigue analysis, as the gap increasing and the length and width decreasing, the fatigue cycle increases. It shows when the length and gap are 220 and 5 μm, the fatigue cycle of 50 μm width is more than ten times of 90 μm width. When the width and gap are 50 and 5 μm, the fatigue cycle of 220 μm length is more than ten times of 260 μm length. When the length and width are 220 and 50 fatigue cycles of 50 μm width are more than ten times of 90 μm width, the difference of fatigue cycle between gap 9 and 5 μm is more than 10 times. However, the most significant effect on fatigue is the applied voltage. It shows the fatigue cycle decays very fast as the applied voltage increasing. When the applied voltages are 2 and 8 volts, the fatigue cycles will decrease from 1018 to less than 108. As the applied voltage being 25 volt, the fatigue cycle near zero. Therefore, the limit applied voltage is about 25 volt.

A 2022 októberében rendezett brazíliai elnökválasztást szoros versenyben a baloldali Lula da Silva nyerte, aki 2003 és 2010 között már két cikluson át a legnagyobb dél-amerikai ország elnöke volt. Az újraválasztásért induló jobboldali Jair Bolsonaro elnök a vártnál jobban szerepelt, de a második fordulóban 1,8 százalékkal Lula mögött végzett. A kampány személyeskedő, durva hangvételű volt, amelyben a jelöltek az ellenfelük lejáratására törekedtek. A brazil társadalmat erősen polarizálta a két antagonisztikus jelölt összecsapása. Lulára az északi és északkeleti régiók lakói, a szegényebbek, a színesbőrűek és a nők szavaztak az átlagnál magasabb számban, míg Bolsonarót az átlagnál magasabb arányban támogatták Dél-, Délkelet- és Közép-Brazília lakói, a jómódúbbak, a fehérbőrűek és a férfiak. A területi eloszlás a képviselőházi, szenátusi és kormányzóválasztási eredményeket illetően is hasonló volt. Bár korábban tett rá utalásokat, hogy nem fogja elfogadni az eredményt, Bolsonaro végül nem akadályozta meg a hatalomátadás megkezdését. Lula helyzete ennek ellenére nehéz: míg első két elnöki ciklusa során a világgazdasági konjunktúra komoly fejlődési lehetőséget biztosított Brazíliának, a jelenlegi kedvezőtlen trendek beszűkítik a lehetőségeit. A Bolsonaróval szimpatizáló parlamenti képviselők relatív többsége szintén akadályozó tényező lehet. A környezetvédelemben előrelépés valószínűsíthető, az amazóniai erdőirtás lassulhat. Külpolitikai téren a latin-amerikai integráció és az Európához fűződő kapcsolatok terén fejlődés várható, míg az orosz–ukrán háború és az amerikai–kínai rivalizálás kapcsán Brazília megtarthatja eddigi semleges, távolságtartó pozícióját.
