Résumé :
Background Discrepancies in controlled substance documentation are common and can lead to legal and regulatory repercussions. We introduced a visual analytics dashboard to assist in a quality improvement project to reduce the discrepancies in controlled substance documentation in the operating room (OR) of our free-standing pediatric hospital. Methods Visual analytics were applied to collected documentation discrepancy audit data and were used to track progress of the project, to motivate the OR team, and in analyzing where further improvements could be made. This was part of a seven-step improvement plan based on the Theory of Change with a logic model framework approach. Results The introduction of the visual analytics dashboard contributed a 24% improvement in controlled substance documentation discrepancy. The project overall reduced documentation errors by 71% over the studied period. Conclusion We used visual analytics to simultaneously analyze, monitor, and interpret vast amounts of data and present them in an appealing format. In conjunction with quality-improvement principles, this led to a significant improvement in controlled substance documentation discrepancies.

Résumé :
Personalized spectacles customized according to an individual’s facial anatomy were developed to provide enhanced visual performance and overall comfort when compared to standard spectacles. In this comparative crossover trial, each subject was randomly assigned to wear either personalized spectacles or standard spectacles for two weeks and then tried the second pair for another two weeks. Visual acuity and reading speed were measured, and visual quality and comfort were assessed using specific questionnaires. The correlation of the wearing parameters with the subjects’ satisfaction was calculated. According to our results, the subjects wearing personalized glasses reported significantly less experience of swaying and significantly higher overall satisfaction compared to those wearing the control spectacles. At the end of the study, 62% of subjects preferred the personalized spectacles, and visual quality was the primary reason for their spectacle preference followed by wearing comfort. The difference from the ideal cornea–vertex distance was significantly lower when wearing the personalized spectacles compared to the control frames. In addition, the absolute value of the difference from the ideal cornea–vertex distance was significantly correlated with patient satisfaction. These results suggest that personalized spectacles, customized according to an individual’s facial anatomy for the ideal wearing parameters, result in both visual and comfort advantages for wearers.

Résumé :
223 Background: Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), a national network of five hospitals, formed a Quality Improvement Committee to bring together both clinical and administrative leadership (physician, nursing, pharmacy and quality) across the enterprise vested in the oversight of quality and patient safety. Tasked with facilitating and driving measurement and improvement the group established a Quality dashboard housing metrics of importance given current performance, evidence-based practice, and evolving external standards. The dashboard includes a mix of outcome, process, and structure measures with targets, both externally driven and CTCA established. Methods: The dashboard houses data sourced from a multitude of systems and is segmented into clinically relevant categories such as Infection Prevention, Nursing, Medication Management, and Medical Oncology to name a few. These categories are further broken down into specific measures, reported by quarter, and color-coded (red/yellow/green) to display progress. Targets are established based upon external benchmarks, where data is available. Each metric is also graphically displayed, trending the 6 most recent quarters of data as another visual reference. Finally, a glossary was created to standardize key measure details across the enterprise for accurate data collection including documentation of source, numerator, denominator, references, inclusions, exclusions and rationale. Data is updated monthly to reflect most current performance and promote timely intervention. Results: Since development of the Quality dashboard, CTCA has experienced various red to yellow to green progressions as well as upped its targets indicating significant advancement in performance. Standard data collection and visual identifiers within one repository has enabled CTCA to accurately focus time and resources where needed in order to continually improve care. Conclusions: The establishment of the enterprise-wide quality dashboard has led to great collaboration within CTCA’s network of hospitals. The display of the data allows both a focus upon individual and network strengths and opportunities for improvement as well as a mechanism for communicating shared goals.

Résumé :
70 Background: The Odette Cancer Centre (OCC) is the sixth largest cancer institution in North America and manages over 24,000 chemotherapy patient visits/year. We initiated an automated system whereby patients can “actively” self-check-in using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards to the chemotherapy unit as part of a quality improvement initiative. Methods: Four self check-in kiosks were implemented into the OCC and all patients received a unique identifiable RFID card. Patients “self-arrived” to the OCC upon entry as well as before the nursing assessment. The technology created an electronic data infrastructure to capture patient experience data for ambulatory chemotherapy. In addition, visual management boards have been implemented that display the patients’ unique identifiers and communicates their process status. This tool also acts as a call-in system wherein the screen flashes and prompts the patient to proceed to the service area. Data was extracted electronically from various information systems, consolidated in excel linking information by the patients hospital file number. Results were analyzed. Results: The mean number of patients treated per day is 85 with a range of 65 to 105 (n=853). Median wait time from arrival to chair placement was 1:52 minutes ranging 0:02 to 6:12. There were 43% of patients that had medication ready within 30 minutes of their appointment time. There was an observed reduction in interruptions to the assessment nurses related to patient status updates (data to be presented). Patient satisfaction was high despite the modest improvement in efficiency. Conclusions: A comprehensive business analysis is being performed on the operations of the OCC with the implementation of this technology. The visual management boards enhance communication to patients while increasing privacy and patient confidentiality. The boards allow for patient mobility in the waiting room and eases anxiety associated with being “lost in the queue”. Next steps for the OCC are to create a data cube linked with other systems to further enrich the data. This technology enabled data analysis, evaluated the impact of change, set baseline targets for performance and built continuous quality improvement.

Since the demise of Champa kingdoms during the 19th century, the Cham language that originated and developed from the 2nd century, is no longer really used among the descendants of the Champa. The lack of transmission of knowledge and documents of the Cham culture makes the study of this language difficult for epigraphists and historians. Therefore, the ANR CHAMDOC project aims to preserve and provide tools for studying the Cham language. In this thesis, we focused on the analysis of two types of Cham documents namely: inscriptions, which were engraved on stone steles, from 6th to 15th century; manuscripts dating from the 18th century. Some work on the digitization of inscriptions has started but no study has really been carried out. The collection of manuscripts, for its part, has never been exploited. These two collections offer many challenges for the scientific community. During this work, we propose a complete pipeline for the automatic processing of these documents. This is based on different DIA techniques. The challenges encountered come from the characteristics of the documents themselves, but also from the linguistic specificities of Cham. An analysis of these characteristics has been carried out in order to propose solutions adapted to inscriptions and manuscripts

Abstract Data compression is an important issue of mobile computing environment. Storage utilization and data transmission condition are two most important issues of mobile computing environment. Data compression can significantly reduce the size of data file that will be helpful for saving the cost of storage and transmission data. According to advanced information technique development, digital image creation is easier than before. Also, the size of digital image file is larger than before because of the high resolution camera device. Thus, many data compression methods have been presented in the pass years. Especially, because the characteristic of natural image, the limited image distortion is acceptable for the image compression. In this study, we focus on improving the compression rate and visual quality of decompression image. Two methods were presented in this study, both of them are utilizing Discrete Cosine Transform to be a part of our methods. In first method, the compression performance improving is the main issue we tend to solve. In second method, our main purpose is to improve the visual quality of decompression image. In our experimental results, the compression rates have been improved for comparing to some other previous works in first method. In second method, not only the performance of compression rates is acceptable but also the visual quality of the decompressed images are better than the first method. Keywords: Image compression, Image visual quality, Discrete Cosine Transform, Vector Quantization, Huffman coding

In addition to air pollutants index (i.e. PSI), ambient air quality can be described by atmospheric visibility since it can be observed directly by general publics. In this study, atmospheric visibility observation, meteorological parameter monitoring, and aerosol particle sampling were conducted to investigate the influences of physicochemical properties of suspended particles and meteorological parameters on atmospheric visibility. This study further applied receptor model and multiple regression linear analysis to forecast atmospheric visibility and develop strategies for improving urban visual air quality at Taipei region. Results from regular visibility observation indicated that the average visibilities were 10.30, 8.05 and 6.00 km in the directions of Tamsui, Sonshan, and Shindian, respectively. Similar trend of visibility variation was also observed for intensive observation. Further analysis of synoptic chart and regular observation data during the period of January 2007–March 2008 showed that the lowest atmospheric visibility commonly occurred whenas the weather patterns were in sequence of eastward movement of rainy areas in southern China, southerly airstream, strong northeast monsoon, circus-sluice of high pressure outflow, and weak northeast monsoon. Results from chemical analysis of suspended particles at Taipei region indicated that major water-soluble ionic species were SO42-, NO3-, and NH4+ and followed by Cl-, while major metallic content were Ca and K. Carbonaceous analysis showed that the mass ratio of OC/EC ranged from 1.65 to 1.91 for PM2.5 and from 1.37 to 1.88 for PM2.5-10. Ammonium nitrate, organic carbon, and ammonium sulfate were the major chemical species that influenced atmospheric visibility at Taipei region. In this study, we choose the averaged atmospheric visibility in Sonshan as a dependent variable and PM10, NO2, SO2, O3, relative humidity (RH), wind direction (WD), and wind speed (WS) as independent variables to establish multiple linear regression models for forecasting the atmospheric visibility. Results of statistical analysis indicated that high correlation between forecasted and observed atmospheric visibilities was observed (R=0.7167). Furthermore, atmospheric visibility forecasting models were established for various weather patterns. The accuracies of atmospheric visibility verification (September~December, 2007) and forecasting (January~March, 2008) were 91.80% and 87.97%, respectively. This study further applied SPSS stastistic software to conduct factor analysis for atmospheric visibility. Results from factor analysis of visibility indicated that the top three factors (PM10, NO2, and SO2) accounted for 71.13% of variance. Furthermore, variable correlation analysis showed that atmospheric visibility had positive correlation with wind speed and negative correlation with other variables (PM10, NO2, SO2, O3, RH, and WD). Besides, for the significant levels of α=0.01 or α=0.05, all variables were proven to be significantly correlated with atmospheric visibility except O3. At Taipei region, the automobile tail emission was the major emission source causing low visibility, thus the most effective strategy for improving atmospheric visibility was to reduce the mission of automobiles and the formation of secondary aerosols containing ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate, which could effectively increase the atmospheric visibility at Taipei region.

Résumé :
The scientific-methodical publication highlights certain aspects of the use of immersive technologies (virtual, augmented, mixed, augmented, substituted reality) in the educational process and their didactic potential. Educational mobile applications with the support of augmented reality technology are considered, the course and results of teachers' training on creating AR content are described, the current state of their readiness and attitude to the use of such technologies in the educational process of general secondary education institutions of Ukraine is investigated. The authors justified the criteria-indicator matrix for determining the quality of augmented reality objects, which contains such criteria as technical-technological, visual-dynamic, content-methodical. It is proposed to determine the quality of AR objects according to four levels of compliance: do not meet the requirements, need thorough refinement, require minor refinement, meet quality requirements. The developed toolkit will potentially contribute to the improvement of the quality of digital educational content for PPE at the stage of development and selection. Methodological studies can be useful to teachers, employees of education and science administration bodies, publishers of educational materials, scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers, management personnel of institutions of various levels of education, and all interested readers.

Résumé :
AbstractWith the constant improvement of power grid planning and management requirements and the gradual advancement of the urbanization process, the problems that need to be taken into account in the planning process are increasing, especially the demand for big data visualization of the power grid has increased sharply. About 80% of the information that humans obtain from the external environment comes from the visual system. A picture is worth a thousand words. A good visualization platform can monitor the overall operation of the power grid, which is convenient for analyzing and monitoring the operation of power supply companies to provide customers with high-quality services. The platform can complete the interactive simulation of different services, and can display the monitoring and analysis of the power grid through a rich visual interface, which is convenient for people to understand the real-time status of the power grid. This paper uses various advanced visualization technologies and data module algorithms at home and abroad to cooperate with the monitoring network to realize the visualization platform of power grid big data, promote the further development of power grid big data applications, and form a big data standard system for power big data technology research, product research and development, and pilot construction.

Résumé :
Abstract: The article presents two methodologies for testing the effectiveness of camouflaging military equipment. The tested objects were camouflaged with deforming camouflage dedicated to the environment and season. The tests covered the visible spectrum and were carried out both in real conditions - training ground, and in a virtual environment – on a specially prepared calibrated stand, characterized by compliance with real conditions and human perception of vision – presented colors, as well as in terms of the amount of information and detail rendering. These two test methods were compared, attention was drawn to the high correlation of results and to some characteristic properties of both separately. The work confirms the legitimacy of developing and improving virtual research methods as supporting in the design and testing of modern camouflage patterns, especially at the initial stage of pattern design. It can also be useful when assessing masking systems in other ranges of electromagnetic radiation: UV, near infrared, or thermal range.

Résumé :
Abstract. The use of multifaceted quality analyses contributes to increasing the efficiency of production processes and quality control as part of maintaining competitiveness. The aim of the study was to identify an integrally configured method for analysing the effectiveness of control points in the context of their ranking in terms of given variables. Verification of the model was carried out against the production process of an aluminium casting. The obtained ranking of the detection methods indicated the MT method as the most effective, which was influenced by the significant detection of critical non-conformities. The study observed little difference between the performance parameters of visual inspection and endoscopic testing, which is largely due to the detection of non-conformities of lower significance and the relatively low cost of testing. Further work will relate to the implementation of the model against other processes carried out in the company.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Mortality in Algeria has declined significantly since the country declared its independence in 1962. This trend has been accompanied by improvements in data quality and changes in estimation methodology, both of which are scarcely documented, and may distort the natural evolution of mortality as reported in official statistics. In this paper, our aim is to detect these methodological and data quality changes by means of the visual inspection of mortality surfaces, which represent the evolution of mortality rates, mortality improvement rates and the male-female mortality ratio over age and time. Data quality problems are clearly visible during the 1977–1982 period. The quality of mortality data has improved after 1983, and even further since the population census of 1998, which coincided with the end of the civil war. Additional inexplicable patterns have also been detected, such as a changing mortality age pattern during the period before 1983, and a changing pattern of excess female mortality at reproductive ages, which suddenly appears in 1983 and disappears in 1992.

Qamhia, Issam, Erol Tutumluer et Han Wang. Aggregate Subgrade Improvements Using Quarry By-products : A Field Investigation. Illinois Center for Transportation, juin 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36501/0197-9191/21-017.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This report presents a case study for constructing aggregate subgrade improvement (ASI) layers using quarry by-product aggregates (QBA), a quarry mix of large primary crushed rocks (PCR) and sand-sized quarry fines. The construction took place at Larry Power Road in Bourbonnais Township in Kankakee County, Illinois, where the Illinois Department of Transportation placed two QBA mixes. The first mix (QBA_M1) consisted of 45% quarry by-products and 55% railroad ballast–sized 3×1 PCR. The second mix (QBA_M2) consisted of 31% and 69% quarry by-products and PCR, respectively. Two conventional ASI sections were also constructed conforming to Illinois Department of Transportation’s CS02 gradation. All sections consisted of a 9 in. (229 mm) QBA/PCR layer topped with a 3 in. (76 mm) dense-graded capping layer. Laboratory studies preceded the construction to recommend optimum quarry by-product content in the QBA materials and construction practice. The Illinois Center for Transportation research team monitored the quality and uniformity of the construction using nondestructive testing techniques such as dynamic cone penetrometer, lightweight deflectometer, and falling weight deflectometer. The segregation potential was monitored by visual inspection and imaging-based techniques. Short-term field evaluation of the constructed QBA layers, particularly QBA_M2 with a 31% quarry by-product content, showed no evidence of abnormal segregation and did not jeopardize the structural integrity of the QBA ASI layers, which had slightly lower but comparable strength and stiffness profiles to the conventional ASI sections. The use of QBA materials in ASI was field validated as a sustainable construction practice to provide stable pavement foundation layers.

Résumé :
In this work, the immediate and long-term results of denervation of intervertebral joints in 30 patients with pain syndrome in the lumbar spine were studied. The catamnesis was collected from 18 patients in terms from 1.7 months to 18 months after surgery. Pain syndrome on a visually analog scale after surgery decreased by an average of 20-30 mm. Subclinically expressed anxiety/depression persists in all patients with a “good” result of treatment, the assessment was carried out using the hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). According to the Nurick scale, treatment results were assessed at level 2 (improvement) in 93.3% of cases (n=28), level 3 (unchanged condition) - 6.7% of cases (n=2). According to the results of the study, denervation of the intervertebral joints is an effective minimally invasive method of treating facet syndrome. It allows in the early and long-term postoperative periods to significantly reduce the pain syndrome and improve the quality of life of patients. The authors also admit that the pain syndrome in the back is polyethological, which requires careful selection of patients for this type of procedure.

Enhancing quality for clients : The balanced counseling strategy. Population Council, 2003. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/rh2003.1014.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
A central focus of high-quality family-planning care is the interaction between clients and the providers who serve them. In the ideal client-provider interaction, the provider treats all clients respectfully, responds to their reproductive needs and intentions, helps in the selection of the most appropriate family planning method, and offers sufficient information to use the method safely and effectively. To improve the quality of the client-provider interaction, Population Council staff developed a “Balanced Counseling Strategy,” a type of algorithm or decision tree, to be used in combination with several job aids, or visual memory aids. The Balanced Counseling Strategy structures the client-provider interaction to focus on the client’s needs and support the client’s choice of an appropriate method, and leads to improvements in the client-provider interaction when providers use the strategy along with job aids. This brief describes the Balanced Counseling Strategy as an ongoing approach to improving quality of care. It outlines the origin and rationale for developing the strategy and details its subsequent adaptation for use in other contexts.
