Résumé :
Magnetic composites of soft magnetic FeGa particles embedded in a silicone matrix have been synthesized. The Villari effect has been studied depending on the size and concentration of the particles and on the magnetic state of the composite. The results indicate a decrease in the Villari effect when the concentration of the magnetic particles increases. These results suggest a relationship between the Villari effect and the mechanical properties of the composites. The Young’s modulus of the composites has been obtained by microindentation and their values related to the intensity and slope of the Villari signals. The results are explained on the basis that the reduction in the cross section of the composite when submitted to stress is the main origin of the variation of the magnetic flux in the Villari effect in this kind of composite. It has also been obtained that the magnetic state of the composite plays an important role in the Villari signal. When the magnetization of the composite is greater, the magnetic flux across the composite is greater too and, so, the same reduction in the cross section originates a greater Villari signal.

The objective of this research is to investigate the evolution of the piezomagnetic field of 30CrNiMo8 steel under cyclic tensile stress with variable amplitudes and asymmetrical cyclic tensile stress. The piezomagnetic field signal of an initially undemagnetised 30CrNiMo8 steel specimen was recorded simultaneously during the whole loading process. It was found that the magnetic field variation is in contrast to the variation of the applied stress during the elastic stage. However, the magnetic field variation started to be consistent with the variation of the applied stress when approaching and entering the plastic stage. A reasonable explanation was given for understanding this phenomenon. The Villari reversal point and the tail reversal point occurred during the plastic stage, which can be used to characterise the transition state from the elastic to plastic stage. The variations of the Villari reversal point and the tail reversal point under cyclic tensile stress with variable amplitudes were slightly different from those under asymmetrical cyclic tensile stress.

Résumé :
The cryptic gastropod Alva-nia scuderii Villari, 2017, recently described from the Strait of Messina as new species inside the A. scabra (Philippi, 1844) group, was known by restricted areas of eastern and southern Sicily. Some records from the type locality and south-eastern Tyrrhenian sea, which pro-vided new data on habitat and bathymetric range, also enlarged northward, in a further basin, the known ar-eal. Such areal, that over-laps a Mediterranean west-ern-eastern biogeographic boundary, may be consid-ered a further clue of an hy-drological front that is re-sponsible of a West-Mediterranean footprint more marked than in nearby North-westernmost areas.

Résumé :
Abstract The paper presents the results of the magnetoelastic Villari effect modelling in high-permeability Mn0.51Zn0.44Fe2.05O4 ferrite. Modelling was performed on the basis of measurements of magnetoelastic characteristics of frame-shaped samples. For the modelling, the corrected Jiles-Atherton-Sablik model was used. On the base of modelling results, the stress dependence of parameter k and stress-induced anisotropy were estimated. As a result the changes of saturation magnetostriction of Mn0.51Zn0.44Fe2.05O4 ferrite subjected to stresses were calculated. Such changes were previously observed experimentally. However, the phenomenon of stress-induced sign change of saturation magnetostriction was never previously explained quantitatively

Résumé :
The SI (stress-impedance) effect in amorphous ribbons with varying magnetostriction was investigated. Iron- and cobalt-based ribbons with different magnetostriction coefficients were put under tensile stress in a dead weight tester and the impedance change was investigated in function of applied stresses. Significant differences of characteristics are presented. Stress-impedance analog of Villari reversal point was observed. The reversal point showed driving current frequency dependence, in which this point manifests for different stress values. Based on the obtained SI characteristics and magnetoelastic hysteresis, the most appropriate stress-sensing material was selected for development of precise small forces sensor.

Résumé :
Investigations of systems with an active magnetostrictive element generally assume the presence of an external homogeneous bias magnetic field. This article, however, presents the results of a study investigating a bimorph magnetostrictive-aluminium beam vibrating in a non-homogeneous bias field. By comparing results obtained under different operating conditions of the system, the combined effect of the non-linear beam stress and the non-homogeneous external magnetic field on the dynamics of the Villari phenomenon is determined. The preliminary results prove that the application of non-linear magnetic fields to the magnetostrictive devices ensures the extension of energy harvesting bandwidth of these devices and can be used to improve their control possibilities. A study of time series and hysteresis loops provides more detailed information about the non-linear magnetization and dynamics of the system.

Résumé :
In this work, we study the Hawking temperature of the global monopole spacetime (non-spherical symmetrical black hole) based on the topological method proposed by Robson, Villari, and Biancalana (RVB). By connecting the Hawking temperature with the topological properties of black holes, the Hawking temperature of the global monopole spacetime can be obtained by the RVB method. We also discuss the Hawking temperature in massive gravity, and find that the effect of the mass term cannot be ignored in the calculation of the Hawking temperature; the corrected Hawking temperature in massive gravity can be derived by adding an integral constant, which can be determined by the standard definition.

Résumé :
Recently, one can observe increasing number of small devices or sensors in many applicationsthat have to be powered by an energy which can be extracted from surroundings. Simple energyharvesting concept from mechanical vibrations of magnetostrictive materials is based on linear beamwith external excitation. In this case, the beam under load vibrates, and experiences stress or strain. This changes the beam shape which causes direction of sample magnetization (Villari effect) thatcan be captured by external coil and transferred to electrical power. In general, the higher amplitudeof beam vibrations, the higher energy can be extracted from the system. This can be achieve in thevicinity of a resonant frequency. In this paper, we propose energy harvesting model based on linearmagnetostrictive (MsM) beam with external coil. We analyse different shapes of the beam withrespect to different resonant frequencies.

Résumé :
In this paper, the design and investigation of an innovative force sensor, based on the Villari effect, is presented. The sensor was built from electrical steel, in a pressductor pattern, but working in bending load mode. The results of the experimental research allowed for the evaluation of transducer’s performance, mitigation of measurement hysteresis, and optimization of its functional parameters. Several issues have been examined, among them the selection of supply and measured signals, the measured values’ impact on measurement hysteresis, harmonic analysis, and the selection of proper current waveforms and frequencies. The proposed sensor is robust, made from inexpensive materials, and has high sensitivity, as compared to other magnetoelastic sensors. It has much higher stress sensitivity than other magnetoelastic sensors due to deformation mode. Based on the tests, its measuring range can be defined as 0.5–5 N with a near-linear characteristic, SNR of 46 dB, and 0.11 N uncertainty.

Herein we revise several Recent Mediterranean species of the rissoid genus Alvania Risso, 1826: Alvania scabra (Philippi, 1844), Alvania sculptilis (Monterosato, 1877), Alvania sororcula Granata-Grillo, 1877, Alvania lucinae Oberling, 1970, Alvania josefoi Oliver & Templado, 2009 and Alvania scuderii Villari, 2017. They represent a rather homogeneous group of morphologically similar species, referred to as the Alvania scabra complex, which includes also some other species from the northeastern Atlantic. We designate a neotype for Rissoa scabra Philippi, 1844 and a lectotype for Rissoa oranica Pallary, 1900 to stabilize the use of the names. Alvania oranica (Pallary, 1900) is confirmed as a synonym of Alvania scabra (Philippi, 1844), and Alvania asperella (Granata-Grillo, 1877) is proposed as a synonym of Alvania sororcula (Granata-Grillo, 1877) [new synonymy]. Finally, we describe one new Mediterranean species: Alvania pizzinii Amati, Smriglio & Oliverio n. sp. from Levanzo Is., Sicily.

This paper presents the study results on the fabrication of a structural integrity assessment apparatus by determining stress concentration zones in pressure pipeline and equipment. The apparatus uses a triaxial magnetic field sensor to measure magnetic field components in three axes Ox, Oy, and Oz, in the working range of the magnetic field from -300 µT to 300 µT. The investigation of the selfmagnetic leakage field by this apparatus in the API 5L steel specimens under tensile stress shows a high variation of the magnetic field at a steel elongation lower than 1 mm (corresponding to the elastic deformation state of the material). In the case of an artificial defect, the apparatus can detect a change in the magnetic field caused by stress concentration.

Résumé :
We present a comprehensive investigation into magnetoelastic sensors (MES) technology applied to biomedical engineering. This includes the working principles, detection methods, and application fields of MES technology. MES are made of amorphous metallic glass ribbons and are wireless and passive, meaning that it is convenient to monitor or measure the parameters related to biomedical engineering. MES are based on the inverse magnetoelastic (Villari) effect. When MES are subjected to mechanical stress, their magnetic susceptibility will change accordingly. And the susceptibility of MES is directly related to their magnetic permeability. The varying permeability can positively reflect the applied stress. The various detection methods that have been developed for different field applications include measurement of force, stress, and strain, monitoring of various chemical indexes, and consideration of different biomedical parameters such as the degradation rate and force conditions of artificial bone, as well as various physiological indexes including ammonia level, glucose concentration, bacteria growth, and blood coagulation.

Résumé :
Wearable energy harvesting devices attract attention as the devices provide electrical power without inhibiting user mobility and independence. While the piezoelectric materials integrated shoes have been considered as wearable energy harvesting devices for a long time, they can lose their energy harvesting performance after being used several times due to their brittleness. In this study, we focused on Fe–Co magnetostrictive materials and fabricated Fe–Co magnetostrictive fiber integrated shoes. We revealed that Fe–Co magnetostrictive fiber integrated shoes are capable of generating 1.2 µJ from 1000 steps of usual walking by the Villari (inverse magnetostrictive) effect. It seems that the output energy is dependent on user habit on ambulation, not on their weight. From both a mechanical and functional point of view, Fe–Co magnetostrictive fiber integrated shoes demonstrated stable energy harvesting performance after being used many times. It is likely that Fe–Co magnetostrictive fiber integrated shoes are available as sustainable and wearable energy harvesting devices.

Résumé :
Modern production equipment is based on the results of quality control as well as process parameters. The magnetic anisotropy of materials is closely connected to internal mechanical stress by the Villari effect, and also to hardening effects due to plastic deformations, and could therefore provide an interesting basis for process control. Nevertheless, the analysis of anisotropic properties is extremely sensitive to sensor and workpiece misalignments, such as tilting. In this work, a novel eddy current sensor system is introduced, performing a non-contact measurement of the magnetic anisotropy of a workpiece and realizing a separation and correction of tilting effects. The measurement principle is demonstrated with the example of two samples with different magnetic anisotropy values induced by cold forming. Both samples are analyzed under different tilt angles between the sensor axis and the surface of the workpiece. In this work, digital signal processing is demonstrated on the acquired raw data in order to differentiate the effects of tilt and of anisotropy, with the use of preliminary results as an example of two prepared samples.

Résumé :
AbstractCoupling effects among different physical fields reflect the conversion of energies from one field into another substantially. For simple physical processes, their governing or constitutive equations all satisfy the law of conservation of energy (LCE). Then, an analysis is extended to the coupling effects. First, for the linear direct and converse piezoelectric and piezomagnetic effects, their constitutive equations guarantee that the total energy is conserved during the process of energy conversion between the elastic and electromagnetic fields. However, the energies are converted via the work terms, (βijkEi),kvj and (γijkHi),kvj, rather than via the energy terms, βijkEiejk and γijkHiejk. Second, for the generalized Villari effects, the electromagnetic energy can be treated as an extra contribution to the generalized elastic energy. Third, for electrostriction and magnetostriction, both effects are induced by the Maxwell stress. Moreover, their energies are purely electromagnetic and thus both have no converse effects. During these processes, the energies can be converted in three different ways, i.e., via the non-potential forces, via the cross-dependence of the energy terms, and directly via the electromagnetic interactions of ions and electrons. In the end, the general coupling processes which involve elastic, electromagnetic fields and diffusion are also analyzed. The advantages of using this energy formulation are that it facilitates discussion of the conversion of energies and provides better physical insights into the mechanisms of these coupling effects.
