Résumé :
This article examines the role of networks of intellectuals in the aspect of seeking ways to overcome the current crises (primarily political-legal) trends. The object of this research is the networks of modern intellectuals. The authors clarify the concept of the networks of intellectuals, review the structural elements and relationship models between the participants. Leaning on the contemporary scientific material, the article describes most popular relationship strategies between the users of the networks of intellectuals and the government. Practical examples of relationships between the U. S. and European intellectuals along with the key difference in the applied strategies are analyzed. Among the main conclusions, the authors note the peculiarities of interaction inside and between various networks of intellectual; however, confrontation between the opponents appeared to be most constructive. Networks of intellectuals can be formed and function for several centuries and on the territories of multiple countries, launching functional chains presented by the developed ideas and concepts. The applied analysis demonstrate that intellectuals of the United States and Europe (despite commonality of views) adhere to different behavioral strategies in their relationship with the authorities: being in management structures or holding a position of independent experts respectively.

Seems that the position of intellectual community gets its own attention to the public because by knowing it is expected to be able to convey an objective and neutral view in providing views on a social problem. Therefore intellectuals are characterized by their ability to respond critically to social problems through discussion or writing in the public sphere. In a wider social context, important roles as well as having the main potential in correcting social problems include religious leaders, pioneers, and intellectuals, where they have a great responsibility for a harmonious society both in religion and more in the state.

Du Bois and Ambedkar, both intellectually sound personalities, challenged the established institutions of oppression of race and caste. Their intellectual and social legacies continue to have an impact on academia and society today. Their new interpretations of history changed the course of generations. This paper, using an intellectual historical method, attempts to revisit and analyse the issues of “race” and “caste” and the relevance of interpretations by both intellectuals. This paper is majorly divided into four parts, with the first one trying to explain the intellectual historical method, its problems in implementation, and its relevance to such an issue; the second one trying to excavate their conceptual perceptions of “race” and “caste.” The third part discusses the perception of both scholars on the driving forces behind these issues, and the last part discusses the concise history of their struggle towards establishing an egalitarian society.

Résumé :
AbstractThis article analyses the historical conditions for, and implications of, the attitudes and conduct of a number of prominent or influential public intellectuals in the United States during the Great War. It argues that many intellectuals, particularly those who supported American entry to the war, shared a general lack of concern with the realities of full-scale warfare. Their response to the war had little to do with the war itself – its political and economic causes, brutal and industrial character, and human and material costs. Rather, their positions were often based on their views of culture and philosophy, or on their visions of the post-war world. As a result, relatively few of these intellectuals fully considered the political, social, and economic context in which the catastrophe occurred. The war, to many of them, was primarily a clash of civilizations, a battle of good versus evil, civilized democracy versus barbaric savagery, progress versus backwardness, culture versus kultur. The article describes several manifestations of American intellectual approaches to the war, discusses the correlation between intellectual and general public attitudes, and concludes with some implications for thinking about the relationship between intellectuals and war in more recent American history.

Résumé :
This thesis discusses three intellectuals, each from a distinct academic background, and their relationship with National Socialism. Persons covered are Carl Gustav Jung, Martin Heidegger, and Eugen Fischer. This thesis aims at discovering something common and fundamental about the intellectuals' relationship to politics as such. The relationship each had with National Socialism is evaluated with an eye to their distinct academic backgrounds. The conclusion of this thesis is that intellectuals succumb all too easily to political and cultural extremism; none of these three scholars saw themselves as National Socialists, yet each through his anti-Semitism and willingness to cooperate assisted the regime.

Résumé :
During the elections for the European Parliament in June 2009, an unknown party in Sweden turned out to be very successful. The Pirate Party, campaigning for patents to be scrapped and copyright to last just five years instead of 70, received 7% of the votes in the Scandinavian country, giving the party the right to a seat in the Parliament in Brussels. These modern day pirates are most successful in Sweden, but similar parties exist in the United States and a number of European countries as well. In modern society, copyrights, patents, and other forms of intellectual property play a bigger role in normal life than they did one or two decades ago. This development makes people more aware of all the effects of intellectual property theory and policy cause. It also brings up the discussion concerning whether the original goals of the policies are still being pursued properly. Is the chosen path in IP law still a valid one in this digital age or is it time to rethink the structure?

Résumé :
The present work examines the literary criticism expressed by Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi in several of her unpublished letters.
The first part outlines the cultural and historical tradition of Venice during the Eighteenth Century. Particular attention is subsequently given to the intellectual role of women, their contribution to the literary salons of the time, and the neoclassical tradition. This first part is essential in that it supplies a valuable context to Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi's writings.
In the second part, I examine Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi's literary criticism of major European authors and works. Through these criticisms she exposes her misvision of the literary world to which she aspired, and reveals that although she was influenced by the subtle preromantic tendencies, she remained faithful to the neoclassical school.

Warner, Sue. « Pupils' experiences of education : a study of pupils' views ». Thesis, University of St Andrews, 1985. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/8005.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This thesis is primarily concerned with the experiences and opinions of education held by pupils in late secondary school and by university students. Over several years, a small group of highly able pupils were interviewed about their experiences of school and university. Their comments were supplemented by interviews with and questionnaire studies of other age-groups of pupils and students. The research has two central emphasises. Firstly, it represents an attempt to increase our understanding of intellectual development in adolescence. At present, there is no coherent theory of adolescent intellectual activity, and little research or evidence on which to build one. Pupil and student experiences of post-compulsory education have been central to this study and it is hoped that they will make a contribution to building up a body of knowledge on which understanding can be enhanced and a theory developed. The second, and related aspect of the research concerns educational practice and its influence on pupils and students. Educational changes are not made on the basis of solid evidence or theory, rather, they are based upon commonsense notions and our own experiences of education. In Scottish education, sixth year pupils face a radical change in the ways in which they are taught and expected to study - the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies (CSYS). Through independent study and project work, CSYS aims to increase the 'educational maturity' of pupils. Pupils' responses to CSYS, and its effects on how and why they study at school and university form the central focus of this thesis. The thesis examines in detail how pupils and students react to changes in their academic environment, both within school and transferring to university. Finally, the implications of the research are discussed in terms of adolescent development, educational innovation, and on a more basic level, how pupils, students, teachers and lecturers can better understand and improve the experience and effectiveness of post-compulsory education.

Biswas, Sanchia Rima. « Transitions into adulthood for children with a severe intellectual disability : parents' views ». Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2015. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/30489/.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Introduction: Despite a growing body of intellectual disabilities literature around the transition into adulthood, most studies have focused upon physical aspects of the transition e.g. from school to employment or into adult services. My study sought to explore the transition into adulthood from a developmental/lifecourse perspective in order to address this current gap within the literature. Given that parents are often regarded as primary witnesses to their child’s transition into adulthood, their views were explored in order to access knowledge around this particular transition. Objectives: My study used a grounded theory approach to explore parents’ views of the transition into adulthood of their child with a severe intellectual disability. A further aim was to understand whether and how parents made psychological adjustments for their child’s transition into adulthood. This included an exploration of the emotional regulation processes that parents engaged in. Method: Twelve parents of 11 children with a severe intellectual disability were recruited from charitable organisations. A Straussian grounded theory methodology was adopted to analyse the data. Results: Parents viewed their child’s transition into adulthood as a process over time. The core process involved making frequent comparisons with their perceived “norms” of adulthood. Parents engaged in a further five processes which included “defining adulthood”, “noticing adult development”, “perceiving barriers to adulthood”, “worrying” and “making adjustments. My study highlighted that parents who defined adulthood as “turning 18” were likely to make adjustments to facilitate their child’s adult development (e.g., “encourage age appropriateness”). Those who viewed chronological age as being unhelpful/meaningless were more likely to be accepting of their child’s difficulties. Contrasting views appeared throughout these processes, demonstrating the diversity of parents’ experiences and adjustments made. Discussion: Parents engaged in a series of interactional processes for their child’s transition trajectory, which was likely to influence how they made adjustments. These processes were explained using existing psychological theory and/or relating them to findings from previous studies. With regards to a grounded theory model, I proposed a transition model of parents’ views and adjustment grounded in the study findings. The visual representation of this model helped to shift away from the staged/linear idea of transition. Future intellectual disabilities studies could seek to explore the types (and function) of comparisons that parents make with others. Additionally, further research could explore fathers’ views which are under-represented within this field. Clinical interventions may aim to challenge parent perceptions; encourage peer support; and embrace systemic working with parents through their child’s transition into adulthood.

Nietzsche was one of the European philosophers who played a prominent role in shaping Russian perceptions of reality in this period, although his thought was interpreted by Russians in contrasing ways. The article examines the case of Dmitrij Merežkovskij, reassessing the extent of Nietzsche’s influence on his oeuvre. In our view, Nietzsche did not only influence Merežkovskij’s early poetry, where aesthetic and anti-Christian views prevail, but also contributed to the sensual and individualist nature of his later prose.

The medieval approach to work was ambivalent, influenced by conflicting cultural legacies, as seen in the tripartite society and tensions between labour and ascetic ideals. The text explores medieval labour contracts, emphasising nuanced relations between servitude, subordination, and freedom, both in rural and urban context, highlighting evolving worker statuses in guilds. Medieval views on mechanical arts challenged Greco-Roman disdain, with intellectuals reconciling manual arts with divine wisdom, reshaping perceptions of practical skills. Societal changes, including city growth and merchant inclusion, challenged traditional orders: a new human perspective shaped by cities, merchants, rationality, and time, paved the way for ‘new man’ of the Renaissance.

Résumé :
Abstract A public Islamic intellectual is a person who takes up matters of public concern from an Islamic perspective. The influence of public Islamic intellectuals has grown in Turkey in the last 30 years. This chapter explores public Islamic intellectuals in Turkey by focusing on prominent examples like Yaşar Nuri Öztürk, İlhami Güler, Mustafa İslamoğlu, Ebubekir Sifil, and Hayrettin Karaman. It first defines the various religious perspectives to which they adhere. It then studies each perspective by analyzing it in terms of methodology, argument, and perspectives on popular issues, from politics to Islamic law. The chapter also explains their positions along the political spectrum. This part aims to disclose why several of them have transformed into public dissidents, while others have stayed loyal to the government. The discussion in this chapter will help readers understand how public Islamic intellectuals in Turkey are similar yet differentiated in terms of methodology, intellectual tradition, and political views.

Résumé :
The work is devoted to the experimental study of structures with split scrambling. With the help of acceptability assessment methods with the use of the Likert scale, self-paced reading, and prosodic experiment, the possibility of separating the left element (determinator or possessor) from the noun head within DP or PP is compared with the separation of the nominal head from its complement (dependent infinitive or prepositional phrase). The results show that separating the head for Russian speakers is not only possible but also rated higher than separating the left element from the head. This pattern is explained by the requirements of the information structure: the left element that has been fronted cannot form the only topic of the clause. The low scores are consistent with existing experimental studies; however, the results of the reading time appear to be inconsistent with existing views about the cognitive load required to process split sentences.

In this study, the peculiarities of the character introduction in the genre of live reportage were studied. The participants were 25 students oh the Lomonosov Moscow State University. Speech production was elicited by means of the “Pears Film” by W. Chafe. Different types of the collective common ground were considered. It turned out that, unlike narratives of other genres, the chronological scale is more important for the introduction than the status scale. It was also shown that the collected reportages from the point of view of the introduction peculiarities are more similar to classical retellings than to the sports reportages.

Résumé :
Fixtures are used for orientation-positioning and clamping of parts during machining in production systems. This systems are composed of machine-tool, cutting tool, part and fixture, It is unanimously accepted that the most versatile component is the fixture. Thus, the creative act manifests itself most fully in the case of devices. As a consequence, it is necessary that the process of creation is followed by a process of protection of creation, from the point of view of the intellectual property law. In this paper an informatics system for selection of the modalities of intellectual protection for the novelties that are obtained in the field of technological fixtures. Firstly, the elements that characterize the fixture from the technical, economic, ergonomic, aesthetic and environmental point of view are identified. Then, for each feature, the ways of protecting the intellectual property for new achievements in the fixture domain are highlighted. Regarding the elements that characterize the fixture, those which are related to the supports, clamping / centering- clamping mechanisms, actuation, etc. are highlighted. Regarding the supports, the following aspects are highlighted: material, thermal / thermo-chemical treatment, shape, dimensions, placement, degree of universality, degree of standardization, etc. Tightening mechanisms are characterized by: the range of the clamping stroke, the magnitude of the clamping force, degree of universality, mechanical efficiency, etc. The drive system is characterized by nature (manual or mechanized) or type (mechanical, electrical, magnetic, electromagnetic, hydraulic, pneumatic, pneumatic, vacuum, etc.). The modalities of protection of the intellectual property are listed, after which the informatics system is presented; the proposed system allows the selection of the proper methods of protecting the intellectual property considering the novelty character of the elements that can appear at various levels in the designing of the technological fixture.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The article focuses on the «Intellectual Dark Web», an informal group of scholars, publicists, and activists who openly opposed the identity politics, political correctness, and the dominance of leftist ideas in American intellectual life. The author examines the reasons for the emergence of this group, names the main representatives and finds that the existence of «dark intellectuals» is the evidence of important problems in US public discourse. The term «Intellectual Dark Web» was coined by businessman Eric Weinstein to describe those who openly opposed restrictions on freedom of speech by the state or certain groups on the grounds of avoiding discrimination and hate speech. Extensive discussion of the phenomenon of «dark intellectuals» began after the publication of Barry Weiss’s article «Meet the renegades from the «Intellectual Dark Web» in The New York Times in 2018. The author writes of «dark intellectuals» as an informal group of «rebellious thinkers, academic apostates, and media personalities» who felt isolated from traditional channels of communication and therefore built their own alternative platforms to discuss awkward topics that were often taboo in the mainstream media. One of the most prominent members of this group, Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, publicly opposed the C-16 Act in September 2016, which the Canadian government aimed to implement initiatives that would prevent discrimination against transgender people. Peterson called it a direct interference with the right to freedom of speech and the introduction of state censorship. Other members of the group had a similar experience that their views were not accepted in the scientific or media sphere. The existence of the «Intellectual Dark Web» indicates the problem of political polarization and the reduction of the ability to find a compromise in the American intellectual sphere and in American society as a whole.

Résumé :
Bagehot is difficult for modern economists to read with understanding, for three reasons. He was a classical economist not neoclassical, his orientation was global not national, and, most importantly, his intellectual formation was as a practicing country banker not an academic. This paper adopts all three perspectives, and uses this frame to reinterpret his mature work, both Lombard Street and the unfinished Economic Studies, as the origin of the key currency tradition which continues as a minority view in modern economics.

Yatsymirska, Mariya. SOCIAL EXPRESSION IN MULTIMEDIA TEXTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, février 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11072.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The article investigates functional techniques of extralinguistic expression in multimedia texts; the effectiveness of figurative expressions as a reaction to modern events in Ukraine and their influence on the formation of public opinion is shown. Publications of journalists, broadcasts of media resonators, experts, public figures, politicians, readers are analyzed. The language of the media plays a key role in shaping the worldview of the young political elite in the first place. The essence of each statement is a focused thought that reacts to events in the world or in one’s own country. The most popular platform for mass information and social interaction is, first of all, network journalism, which is characterized by mobility and unlimited time and space. Authors have complete freedom to express their views in direct language, including their own word formation. Phonetic, lexical, phraseological and stylistic means of speech create expression of the text. A figurative word, a good aphorism or proverb, a paraphrased expression, etc. enhance the effectiveness of a multimedia text. This is especially important for headlines that simultaneously inform and influence the views of millions of readers. Given the wide range of issues raised by the Internet as a medium, research in this area is interdisciplinary. The science of information, combining language and social communication, is at the forefront of global interactions. The Internet is an effective source of knowledge and a forum for free thought. Nonlinear texts (hypertexts) – «branching texts or texts that perform actions on request», multimedia texts change the principles of information collection, storage and dissemination, involving billions of readers in the discussion of global issues. Mastering the word is not an easy task if the author of the publication is not well-read, is not deep in the topic, does not know the psychology of the audience for which he writes. Therefore, the study of media broadcasting is an important component of the professional training of future journalists. The functions of the language of the media require the authors to make the right statements and convincing arguments in the text. Journalism education is not only knowledge of imperative and dispositive norms, but also apodictic ones. In practice, this means that there are rules in media creativity that are based on logical necessity. Apodicticity is the first sign of impressive language on the platform of print or electronic media. Social expression is a combination of creative abilities and linguistic competencies that a journalist realizes in his activity. Creative self-expression is realized in a set of many important factors in the media: the choice of topic, convincing arguments, logical presentation of ideas and deep philological education. Linguistic art, in contrast to painting, music, sculpture, accumulates all visual, auditory, tactile and empathic sensations in a universal sign – the word. The choice of the word for the reproduction of sensory and semantic meanings, its competent use in the appropriate context distinguishes the journalist-intellectual from other participants in forums, round tables, analytical or entertainment programs. Expressive speech in the media is a product of the intellect (ability to think) of all those who write on socio-political or economic topics. In the same plane with him – intelligence (awareness, prudence), the first sign of which (according to Ivan Ogienko) is a good knowledge of the language. Intellectual language is an important means of organizing a journalistic text. It, on the one hand, logically conveys the author’s thoughts, and on the other – encourages the reader to reflect and comprehend what is read. The richness of language is accumulated through continuous self-education and interesting communication. Studies of social expression as an important factor influencing the formation of public consciousness should open up new facets of rational and emotional media broadcasting; to trace physical and psychological reactions to communicative mimicry in the media. Speech mimicry as one of the methods of disguise is increasingly becoming a dangerous factor in manipulating the media. Mimicry is an unprincipled adaptation to the surrounding social conditions; one of the most famous examples of an animal characterized by mimicry (change of protective color and shape) is a chameleon. In a figurative sense, chameleons are called adaptive journalists. Observations show that mimicry in politics is to some extent a kind of game that, like every game, is always conditional and artificial.

Open School Doors User Needs Analysis Report : Developing diverse school / parents’ communities through innovative partnerships. Technische Universität Dresden, CODIP, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.25368/2024.3.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This report presents the first intellectual output (IO1) of the Open School Doors project. IO1 has been jointly produced by the whole project consortium. It summarizes the national policies and initiatives among the partnership concerning the parental engagement / involvement of migrant / refugee parents toward school life. To this end literature resources have been collected and then analysed, with the following aims: a) Profile the target group per country, i.e. outline what is the main audience, its specific cultural characteristics (if any), what has to be taken into consideration for the design of a Training Framework that will match both their learning and cultural needs, etc. b) Elaborate on certain cases of successful parental engagement / involvement, i.e. mainly EU, nationally or locally funded projects. The rationale behind the intensive search of such cases was to identify practices that really work but not to ‘reinvent the wheel’, and have a valid starting point for Open Schools Doors (OSD) Training Framework ‐ no doubt that the amplitude and variety of such programs are good indicators of each country policy and posture towards social inclusion and provision of equal opportunities to education. c) Identify the gaps in the current situation among the participant countries and design a Training Framework that will actively facilitate parents’ engagement / involvement to school life in a tangible and long‐term manner. Methodically authors started with desk research and apart from that empirical data was collected from focus groups which were organized with the view to validating what was theoretically concluded from literature resources by asking the main target audience of the project about the Training Framework specifications and features. To this end the last section summarizes findings of both theoretical research and focus groups, providing thus an overview of what is needed and on which directions OSD didactic approach should focus.
