Résumé :
Least of using thermoelectric module as an electric generator in society was often because of energy which was produced by it was unstable. So we need voltage stabilizer circuit to push up and down the voltage to certain voltage. The purpose of this final project is to design a voltage stabilizer circuit in pico scale DC voltage based on boost converter. This experiment is done by three stage there are, stabilizer experiment by adaptor, performance of thermoelectric generator and also stabilizer experiment by thermoelectric generator. The yield of the first experiment, when we gave input voltage 3 until 9 V produced 5,07 until 5,08 V, so it has 98,55% accuracy toward 5 V expect. On the second experiment, when it is given by ∆T 30, 50 and 70 °C produced 2,5, 3,04 and 3,39 V. While on third experiment, with the same ∆T produced 5,08 until 5,09 V. But, when ∆T which given by 12 °C produced only 0,8 and 0,9 V in second and third experiment, it is because of the voltage is not fulfill accupation voltage 2 until 24 V on datasheet of used IC. Relation between ∆T and Voltage (V), Current (I) also Power (P) which was produced have positive R value 0,76 until 1, this mean that ∆T directly proportional to V,I and P. So, the higher ∆T we give, the higher V, I and P will be.Keywords : stabilizer, thermoelectric, boost converter.

Résumé :
Healthcare education and practice has significantly been impacted by COVID-19. This includes the challenge on pedagogical approaches that highlight the potential of technology to facilitate innovative new approaches in response to social distancing, lockdowns, remote learning and improving the patient experience and positive outcomes. Many of these innovative approaches are not fundamentally new but are now seeing relevance beyond early adopters to mainstream implementation. This presentation draws upon collaborations with educational researchers and technologists that have explored the integration of technology into healthcare education and practice. COVID-19 Adversity to Opportunity Many healthcare programmes required reenvisaging teaching and learning approaches in response to COVID-19 restrictions. This had a particular impact on the development of interpersonal and practical knowledge and skills essential for healthcare graduates. The limited access to on-campus learning provided an opportunity for both institutional and individual evaluation of pedagogical practices. The affordances of traditional, didactic, and “hands-on” skills were compared with those that could be facilitated using online asynchronous/ synchronous strategies. A particular concern was the development of the interpersonal and practical skills required in safe and effective healthcare practice. Alongside easing of restrictions, these skills were adapted using online demonstrations within the limits of socially distanced “bubbles”, telehealth and limited clinical placements. Reconsideration of summative assessments was also required- with the introduction online synchronous and asynchronous verbal assessments, and asynchronous submissions of practical skills online (Cochrane et al., 2021; Narayan et al., 2021). In the prospect of COVID-19 restrictions continuing to lift, it is envisioned that most of the reenvisaged pedagogical approaches to healthcare education will persist, without compromising student critical thinking or practical skills. Interprofessional Collaboration This presentation will highlight the importance of interprofessional collaboration in healthcare curriculum design using a Design-Based-Research methodology (Chen et al., 2020; Kartoğlu et al., 2020) to facilitate authentic learning and develop self-determined learning capabilities for healthcare professionals. DBR- Design Principles in response to COVID Transferable design principles will be introduced for enhancing healthcare education that will improve practice in a COVID19 world, particularly drawing from eight healthcare projects including: STUDIO602 – enhancing clinical practice with mobile technologies (Cochrane & Sinfield, 2021), developing a virtual reality handover experience for healthcare students (Cochrane et al., 2018), using immersive reality to develop critical thinking in clinical health education (Stretton et al., 2018), enhancing first responder clinical simulation education using immersive reality and biometrics (Cochrane et al., 2020), designing authentic learning for graduate entry nursing students (Macdiarmid et al., 2021), designing public and environmental health education (Kersey et al., 2018), Biomedical engineering (Lam et al., 2021), and physiology education (Fabris et al., 2019). Résumé :
The main purpose of this project was to see if there is a difference in performance between blind and sighted subjects when reading raised letters by feel. A secondary purpose was to attempt to find the optimum height while keeping all other variables constant. Six blind and 22 blindfolded subjects were asked to identify raised plastic letters by feel. The following confusion letters were used: E,F,P,R,G,C,O,Q,D,B,U,V,J,I,T. The heights were 1.27, 1.91 and 2.54 cm. The time it took to identify the letter and whether or not the letter was misidentified were recorded. There was not enough evidence to conclude a difference between blind and blindfolded subjects. The sizes 1.91 and 2.54 cm were not significantly different. However, 1.27 cm was harder to identify. There were significant differences between letters. There was no correlation between identification time and accuracy.

Résumé :
Ionic liquids (ILs) are a unique class of electrolytes, which characteristics make them suitable for use in solar cells, supercapacitors, and fuel cells1. Due to the appealing properties such as good electrochemical stability, low vapour pressure, high concentration of ions and the lack of solvent, they have been under intense study since the early 2000s. Although numerous theoretical2,3, computational4,5, and experimental studies6,7 have shed light on the interfacial properties of ILs, which differ noticeably from the aqueous electrolytes, multiple open questions remain. One such problem is how the interfacial capacitance is affected by the ambient temperature, as studies have shown both positive and negative temperature dependences8,9. Understanding the temperature dependence of interfacial capacitance is crucial as it is relevant for the description of energy storage and is one of the few quantities, which can be estimated both experimentally and computationally. In this study, we combine the density functional theory (DFT) calculations with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of graphene (Gr) | EMImBF4 IL interface to explain the effect of temperature on capacitance. MD simulations allow us to investigate the probable distribution of ions near the electrode’s surface and relate the changes of ILs structure to the capacitance using the interfacial bilayer model (IBL). We show that the increase of temperature affects the capacitance near the potential of zero charge by attenuating the overscreening without a notable change in the IL interfacial structure. The characteristic peaks and plateaus in the capacitance potential dependence are explained through the concepts of IL layering and saturation of the second IL layer described in the IBL. Using the DFT calculations, we estimate the impact of the quantum capacitance of Gr on the total interfacial capacitance and its temperature dependence. By accounting for the limiting quantum capacitance, the total interfacial capacitance was significantly altered in the case of the Gr electrode, as the effect of the temperature was dampened, and a V-shaped capacitance curve was obtained.

Problem: The desire for development in less privileged countries like Uganda has created the need for the privileged countries like Sweden to embark on external knowledge transfer through different projects, as one of the objectives to achieve development. However, some factors tend to limit the success of this external knowledge transfer process.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to find out the factors that lead to the barriers and limitations of knowledge transfer in development projects. Since there are differences in objectives between nonprofit and profit making projects, the research is also aimed at highlighting the extent to which the affecting factors hinder the achievement of objectives and goals.

Method: Qualitative methods were used in this research. Telephone interviews were conducted after sending questionnaires to four respondents from different organizations that were actively involved in the projects. In order to have balanced results, two respondents each from Uganda and Sweden were interviewed. Trustworthiness and ethical issues were put into consideration while conducting the interviews, in a bid to create a desirable atmosphere for conducting the study.

Result: External knowledge transfer is affected by factors like culture, individual factors, and knowledge management factors. Apart from the mentioned factors, research found that instead of organizational factors that would affect profit making projects to a greater extent, factors like the political will, ownership and local needs are the ones that affect development projects.

Conclusion: The factors that affect the external knowledge transfer process are to a greater extent human, and are controllable. In development projects, the recipient country should identify the needs that would initiate the external knowledge transfer process. Most of the affecting factors would be controlled through building of relationships and strong ties, local ownership, and political considerations. All this put into consideration, external knowledge transfer between developed and developing countries stand a high chance to succeed.

Its purpouse is based on a search for the channel s uses, analisyng the programations contents, the process of production and transmition, the social contributions on the contruction of citizen s conscience and finally, its acception by the viewer. The medotological procedures included the participant observation, consisted in follow day by day the TV s activities from March 2002 from February 2003, and July 2003. The documental research had given several informations about the strategies and interviews, which permited the knowledge about comunity participation in the propgrams and the perception about the role of the channel in the city. The fact is that TV CÂMARA has been increasing the options in the local TV broadcasting. The city viewers can see themselves watching the legislative programation. Nevertheless the channel needs to set its existence in the communication field. The society participation can be increased with new programs and more directly, through the guidelines organization. The most important thing is: the legislative channel is a public instrument that must be used by the local population.

This study proposes a measurement and assessment model for the construction productivity of freeway reconstruction project, according to on the previous studies of Thomas and the characteristics of the freeway reconstruction project. The model is used on the cases of the freeway No. 1 reconstruction projects and No. 2 new construction project in Taiwan to realize and compare their respective influence factors of the construction productivity. When the model evaluates the threshold construction productivity of the embankment in the cases, the estimate values for the reconstruction projects and the new construction project are 0.048~0.052 MH/ M 3 and 0.025 MH/ M 3 , respectively. In addition, the influence factors in the reconstruction projects and between the reconstruction projects and the new construction project are introduced, leading to the arrangement of improvement methods. The results based on this study can support the use of the model to various constructions to completely establish the threshold construction productivity in construction engineering for the further use of the cost analysis and construction management. The working content factor in the model, however, should be further studied in a future to obtain a better result.

Résumé :
This chapter is a tutorial on using R. To get the most out of it, you should open an R session and type the commands into the console as you read the text. You should be able to use copy-and-paste if you have access to an electronic version of the book. All code is available on the book’s Web site. Science requires transparency and reproducibility. The R language for statistical modeling makes this easy. Developing, maintaining, and documenting your R code is simple. R contains numerous functions for organizing, graphing, and modeling your data. Directions for obtaining R, accompanying packages, and other sources of documentation are available at http://www.r-project.org/. Anyone serious about applying statistics to climate data should learn R. The book is self-contained. It presents R code and data (or links to data) that can be copied to reproduce the graphs and tables. This reproducibility provides you with an enhanced learning opportunity. Here we present a tutorial to help you get started. This can be skipped if you already know how to work with R. R is the ‘lingua franca’ of data analysis and statistical computing. It helps you perform a variety of computing tasks by giving you access to commands. This is similar to other programming languages such as Python and C++. R is particularly useful to researchers because it contains a number of built-in functions for organizing data, performing calculations, and creating graphics. R is an open-source statistical environment modeled after S. The S language was developed in the late 1980s at AT&T labs. The R project was started by Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka of the Statistics Department of the University of Auckland in 1995. It now has a large audience. It is currently maintained by the R core-development team, an international group of volunteer developers. To get to the R project Web site, open a browser and, in the search window, type the keywords “R project” or directly link to the Web page using http://www.r-project.org/. Directions for obtaining the software, accompanying packages, and other sources of documentation are provided at the site.

Résumé :
Chaozhong Li of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry demonstrated (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 4037) facile and selective Cu-catalyzed β-lactam formation, converting 1 to 2. Paul Helquist of the University of Notre Dame devised (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 3903) an effective catalyst for intramolecular alkyne hydroamination, converting 3 into the imine 4. Six-membered ring construction worked well also. Jon T. Njardarson of Cornell University found (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 5023) a Cu catalyst for the rearrangement of alkenyl aziridines such as 5 to the pyrroline 6. Philippe Karoyan of the UPMC, Paris developed (J. Org. Chem. 2008, 73, 6706) an interesting chiral auxiliary directed cascade process, converting the simple precursor 7 into the complex pyrrolidine 9. Sherry R. Chemler of the State University of New York, Buffalo devised (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 17638) a chiral Cu catalyst for the cyclization of 10, to give 12 with substantial enantiocontrol. Wei Wang of the University of New Mexico demonstrated (Chem. Commun. 2008, 5636) the organocatalyzed condensation of 13 and 14 to give 16 with high enantio- and diastereocontrol. Two complementary routes to azepines/azepinones have appeared. F. Dean Toste of the University of California, Berkeley showed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 9244) that a gold complex catalyzed the condensation of 17 and 18 to give 19. Frederick G. West of the University of Alberta found (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 3985) that lactams such as 20 could be ring-expanded by the addition of the propiolate anion 21. Takeo Kawabata of Kyoto University extended (Organic Lett . 2008, 10, 3883) “memory of chirality” studies to the cyclization of 23, demonstrating that 24 was formed in high ee. Paul V. Murphy of University College Dublin took advantage (Organic Lett . 2008, 10, 3777) of the well-known intramolecular addition of azides to alkenes, showing that the intermediate could be intercepted with nucleophiles such as thiophenol, to give the cyclized product 26 with high diastereocontrol.

Résumé :
The reduction of the lambda calculus to the theory of combinators in Schönfinkel 1924 applies to positive implicational logic, i.e. to the typed lambda calculus, where the types are built up from atomic types by means of the operation A → B, to show that the lambda operator can be eliminated in favour of combinators К and S of each type A → (B → A) and(A → (B →C)) →((A →C)), respectively. I will extend that result to the case in which the types are built up by means of the general function type ∀х : A.B(x) as well as the disjoint union type Ǝх : A.B(x)— essentially to the theory of Howard 1980. To extend the treatment of→ to ∀ we shall need a generalized form of the combinators К and S, and to deal with Ǝ we will need to introduce a new form of the combinator S (whose type turns out to be a general form of the axiom of choice). But also in the present context, if we are to eliminate variables, then not only the lambda operator for forming terms, but also quantification as a variable-binding operation for forming formulas must be analyzed away; so we will need an analogue of the combinators for formulas. As usual, we shall write if for the value s(t) of the function s for the argument t; so rst is (r(s)))(t), etc. Let v be a free variable of type A. We wish to rewrite the formulas B(v), ∀x: A.B(x) and Ǝх : A.B(x), respectively, as B′v, ∀В′ and ƎB′, where B' is a type-valued function on A.

Résumé :
This volume is intended to employ E–pH diagrams to describe the inorganic solution chemistry of the chemical elements. Such diagrams are very useful in numerous fields of investigation, including electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, geochemistry, environmental chemistry, corrosion chemistry, hydrometallurgy, water chemistry, agricultural chemistry, toxicology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, health physics, and nutrition. It is assumed that the reader is acquainted with the following major topics which are treated in elementary chemistry: stoichiometry, equilibrium, acid–base phenomena, solubility, complexation, elementary thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. In 1923, W. M. Clark and B. Cohen published a paper in which they introduced the idea of plotting the electromotive force as referred to the hydrogen electrode E against the pH for several chemical systems. In 1928, Clark continued to develop this graphical presentation in his text on the determination of pH. The utility of the method was further extended by numerous other investigators such as M. Pourbaix, G. Valensi, G. Charlot, T. P. Hoar, R. M. Garrels, N. de Zoubov, J. Van Muylder, E. Deltombe, C. Vanleugenhaghe, J. Schmets, M. Maraghini, P. Van Rysselberghe, A. Moussard, J. Brenet, F. Jolas, K. Schwabe, J. Besson, W. Kunz, A. L. Pitman, J. N. Butler, P. Delahay, H. Freiser, H. A. Laitinen, L. G. Sillen, P. L. Cloke, and others. In 1963, M. Pourbaix in collaboration with N. de Zoubov published Atlas d’equilibres electrochimiques, a collection of E–pH diagrams for 90 chemical elements. This volume was translated into English in 1966 by J. A. Franklin and published as Atlas of Electrochemical Equilibria in Aqueous Solutions. Subsequently other investigators published computer programs for constructing the diagrams: L. Santoma; B. G. Williams, and W. H. Patrick; P. B. Linkson, B. D. Phillips, and C. D. Rowles; K. Osseo-Asare, A. W. Asihene, T. Xue, and V. S. T. Ciminellie; D. R. Drewes; M. Mao and E. Peters; H-H. Huang and C. A. Young; J. P. Birk and Laura L. Tayer; G. P. Glasby and H. D. Schulz; and Q. Résumé :
Andreas Pfaltz of the University of Basel and Keisuke Suzuki of the Tokyo Institute of Technology showed (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2010, 49, 881) that the iodohydrin of 1 did not interfere with the enantioselective hydrogenation. J. R. Falck of UT Southwestern developed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 2424) a procedure for coupling arene boronic acids with a cyano triflate 3, readily available in high ee from the corresponding aldehyde. Anita R. Maguire of University College Cork devised (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 1184) a Cu catalyst for the enantioselective C-H insertion cyclization of 5 to 6. Jin-Quan Yu of Scripps/La Jolla established (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 460) a complementary enantioselective C-H functionalization protocol, converting the prochiral 7 into 8 in high ee. Xumu Zhang of Rutgers University effected (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2010, 49, 4047) enantioselective branching hydroformylation of 9 to give 10. T. V. RajanBabu of Ohio State University established (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 3295) the enantioselective hydrovinylation of a diene 11 to the diene 12. Gregory C. Fu extended (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 1264, 5010) Ni-mediated cross-coupling, both with alkenyl and aryl nucleophiles, to the racemic bromoketone 13. Hyeung-geun Park and Sang-sup Jew of Seoul National University used (Organic Lett. 2010, 12 , 2826) their asymmetric phase transfer protocol to effect the enantioselective alkylation of the amide 15. Kyung Woon Jung of the University of Southern California showed (J. Org. Chem. 2010, 75, 95) that the oxidative Pd-mediated Heck coupling of arene boronic acids to 17 could be effected in high ee. Nicolai Cramer of ETH Zurich observed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 5340) high enantioinduction in the cleavage of the prochiral cyclobutanol 19. Alexandre Alexakis of the University of Geneva achieved (Organic Lett. 2010, 12, 1988) the long-sought goal of efficient enantioselective conjugate addition of a Grignard reagent to an unsaturated aldehyde 21. Professor Alexakis also established (Organic Lett. 2010, 12, 2770) conditions for enantioselective conjugate addition to a nitrodiene 23. This procedure worked equally well for β-alkynyl nitroalkenes.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Our research collaboration has begun a project to develop an Ideal Project Law (IPL). What we are trying to accomplish is the development of some equation with a mathematical underpinning that can usefully relate Functionality, Cost, Schedule and Risk which can then be graphed, and this graph then becomes a decision making and communications aid. For some of us, the current contention is that a possible IPL is analogous to the Ideal Gas Law (IGL), which relates Pressure (P), Volume (V) and Temperature (T) for reasonably well-behaved gases. (P*V)/T = Constant (where the constant has very much to do with the nature of the gas under discussion). This is due to our belief that the IPL will represent some form of a relationship (inverse or direct) between Cost (C), Schedule (S), Functionality (F) and Risk (R) much like the IGL represents relationships between P, V and T for a given gas. We also expect that at least some of the factors will change based on the type of project, so we might have to develop a range of factors and constants. The Ideal Gas Law informs us, for example, that if you keep V fixed and increase P, then you can expect T to also increase. So “keep this one factor fixed, and change that other factor and then watch the third factor move one way or the other” relationships can be described via the Ideal Gas Law. We believe that this “push on one factor and see what happens to the other factors” feature of the Ideal Gas Law seems to be very analogous to project and operation Cost, Schedule, Functionality and Risk relationships. This law, or some such function, is absolutely essential. Having such a Law that is proven valid will introduce (or rather tactfully enforce) some systematic thinking in the project and operational management set-up. Otherwise, no matter how elaborate a case is made for project or operational risks, the risk decisions will be left to the whims, fancies and moods of the key decision-making person(s) in the organization or project — we are working towards reducing this subjectivity in decision-making. We may determine that it is impossible to have a 100% scientific outlook on project or operational factors simply because human beings are involved, but if that is the case, we may be able to be at least 80% scientific about it.

Résumé :
We have measured the low frequency (undamped) electrooptic and piezoelectric coefficients in several photorefractive crystals using interferometric techniques. The electrooptic and piezoelectric measurements were independent of the frequency (in the range from 10 Hz to 100 kHz) and linear in the magnitude (in the range from 0.1 to 200 V/cm) of the applied electric field. The electrooptic coefficients measured in melt-grown BaTiO3 single crystals at λ = 5145 Å and at T = 23°C are r13 = 33 ± 2 pm/V and r33=124 ± 6 pm/V. The piezoelectric coefficient d13 = 57 ± 3 pm/V was measured separately. The combined Pockels coefficient r C = 84 ± 5 pm/V was measured independently and is in good agreement with the value r c ≡ r33 − (n1/n3)3r13 = 84 ± 5 pm/V computed from the above values of r13 and r33. (n1, and n3 are the ordinary and extraordinary indices of refraction, respectively, of tetragonal BaTiO3.) Similar measurements at λ = 5145 Å in Sr0.6Ba0.4Nb2O6 single crystals yield the electrooptic coefficients r13 = 55 ± 3 pm/V, r33 = 224 ± 11 pm/V, and the piezoelectric coefficient d13 = 47 ± 3 pm/V. The electrooptic and piezoelectric coefficients of LiNbO3 single crystals were also measured. As an independent check on this data, we also measured the coupling between two optical beams in these photorefractive crystals. The ratio of the measured coupling strengths for different optical polarizations agrees with theory using the electrooptic coefficients measured above.

Résumé :
To choose the adequate regenerator, that gives the highest Stirling engine performances, different compromises must be considered. The figure of Merits is a powerful tool to evaluate and compare the performance of different Stirling engine regenerator matrices. The figure of merits is usually defined as the ratio between the heat transfer performance and the pressure drop losses through the regenerator matrix. The figure of merits can be obtained too by calculating different rations of pressure drop ΔPPm of regenerator volume VdrVE and for regenerator loss Q.tQ.r F M S C = 1 Δ P P m V d r V E Q . t Q . r In this study the experimental results of various Gamma Stirling engine metallic wire regenerator matrices are presented. The figure of merit parameter will be estimated to determine the adequate regenerator. Then the FMSC was used to determine the best regenerator porosity and the optimal operation parameters.

Résumé :
This work presents an investigation of the ductile tearing properties for API 5L X70 and X80 pipeline steels using experimentally measured crack growth resistance curves (J-R curves). Testing of the pipeline steels employed compact tension (C(T)) fracture specimens to determine the J-R curves based upon the unloading compliance method using a single specimen technique in accordance with the ASTM E1820 standard procedure. Conventional tensile tests and Charpy V-Notch tests were also performed to determine the mechanical and impact properties for the tested materials. Severe splitting running parallel with the crack propagation path with varied lengths was observed in all tested fracture specimens, particularly for the API X80 material. The occurrence of splits makes the determination of JIc and resistance curves more difficult, as delamination of interfaces positioned normal to the crack front decreases the effective thickness of the test piece, inducing plane stress conditions deep inside the specimen. This experimental characterization provides additional toughness and mechanical data against which the general behavior of X70 and X80 class pipeline steel can be compared.

Résumé :
The alpha-contaminated solid waste generated in Belgium results from past activities in the fuel cycle (R&D + Reprocessing and MOX fabrication pilot plants) and operation of BELGONUCLEAIRE’s MOX fuel fabrication plant. After the main steps in the management of alpha-contaminated solid waste were established, BELGONUCLEAIRE, with the support of BELGOPROCESS and ONDRAF/NIRAS, started the design and construction of the T & C and interim-storage facilities for this alpha waste. The accumulated solid alpha radwaste containing a mixture of combustible and non-combustible material must be sorted and characterized. After sorting, both the accumulated and recently-generated alpha waste will be compacted and the pellets will be embedded in a cement matrix in a 400-1 drum. The commissioning of the sorting unit which includes glove boxes was completed at BP, at the beginning of year 2005; the sorting campaign of 30-1 cans has been achieved in March 2007. The paper describes the project environment and gives a short description of the used facilities; the lessons learned from the sorting campaign and from the first T/C period, will be presented, as well.

Résumé :
Since the last decade, Tractebel Engineering has been involved in several consecutive projects in the field of High Temperature Gas Reactor (HTGR). The objectives of the present project called RAPHAEL (www.raphael-project.org) is to provide R&D results in order to consolidate available data on generic V/HTR technologies and to develop innovative solutions to further contribute to the improvement of HTR performances. One of the objectives of the RAPHAEL Sub-project Safety is to qualify tools for performing safety analyses and supporting the safety approach and demonstration. One of the work packages concerns the validation of the existing thermal-hydraulic system codes capabilities needed to perform transient analysis in V/HTR. This validation is carried out by benchmarking against experimental data and by comparing simulation results given by several codes. The current paper presents the work performed at Tractebel Engineering on the simulation of the HE-FUS3 experimental loop — ENEA facility, Brasimone (Italy) — with the MELCOR v.1.8.6 code. The HE-FUS3 loop contains a wide range of components characteristic of a V/HTR like compressor, pipes, diffusers, valves, heaters and heat exchangers. Even if the loop characteristics/configuration is not prototypical of a V/HTR design, the loop is useful to assess the objectives identified by the Project, i.e. helium operating fluid, design pressure and temperature set respectively at 10.5 MPa and 530 °C. The experimental data of the HE-FUS3 loop made available for the benchmark are a set of steady state tests for the thermal-hydraulic characterization of the loop and two transient tests — Loss Of Flow Accidents (LOFA). Moreover, to assess the characteristics of the compressor, data have also been provided from a compressor test campaign. From the code-to-experiment comparison the ability of MELCOR v.1.8.6 to reproduce the experimental results is judged.

Résumé :
Abstract The “Establishing AMR Structural Integrity Codes and Standards for UK GDA” (EASICS) project has recently been established to help support the acceptance of Advanced Modular Reactors, or AMRs, which are typically based on high temperature Generation IV reactors. The EASICS project is looking to help define the requirements for codes and standards for the design of AMRs, to ensure that state-of-the art knowledge will be brought to bear on developing the required design and assessment methodologies. The EASICS project is to run from July 2019 to March 2021. To support this, the work presented in this paper provides an overview of two interacting aspects of this programme. The first is to perform validation tests for high temperature creep-fatigue assessments of a plant relevant component. The second aspect is to use these results, along with those of other identified tests, to provide a comparison of internationally recognised approaches for the assessment of high temperature (creep regime) components. This paper provides an initial overview of the works and progress; the final results will be presented in subsequent paper(s). Specialist testing of a plant relevant component (thin tubes butt welded together) under high temperature loading conditions will be performed. The validation testing is to include two fatigue tests and four creep-fatigue tests on 316H welded tubes. The tubes will be subject to strain controlled tension/compression (R-ratio of −1), with the possibility to apply a displacement controlled dwell. The tests will be conducted at 525 C. To help enhance interaction with the code bodies, and to understand the impact of differences in the approaches, comparative assessments will be performed when adopting R5, ASME Section III Div 5 and RCC-MRx. One comparison will be based around the tests detailed here. The second assessment comparison will consider the Evasion mock-up tests provided by CEA (sodium based thermal shock tests). The third assessment case currently still needs to be defined in the programme at the time of writing. The subsequent discussions over results, differences and potential impact to the codes will help inform a guidance document to best assess AMRs in the UK.

Résumé :
Abstract In this work an experimental study of spray cooling using monodispersed droplet sprays impinging on a flat and heated surface is reported. The aim of the work was to formulate an empirical model describing the heat flux (HF) for the nucleate boiling regime. Monodispersed water droplets with a known diameter and velocity, produced by a droplet generator, were directed toward a heated surface and the heat transfer was registered using a data acquisition system. The resulting high heat flux was investigated as function of the droplets’ diameter and velocity, mass flow rate, ambient pressure, subcooling degree and surface roughness. The resulting matrix of variables investigated in the experiments included; mass flux rate (340 < ṁ″ < 750 kg/m2s), subcooling degree (25 < Tsub < 78 °C), ambient pressure (1 < P < 1.8 bar), and surface roughness (79 < Rt < 5 μm). A generalized correlation was developed for the dimensionless HF as function of the dimensionless mass flow rate, temperature, surface roughness and pressure, along with the Jacob number. The form of the correlation is q ˙ ″ ρ V h f g = 0.245 ( Ja ) 1.038 ( Δ T sub Δ T sat ) 0.491 ( ρ σ m ˙ μ 3 ) 0.133 ( R t D ) 0.0213 ( P P 0 ) 0.291 having a confidence level greater than 95%, the differences between predicted and experimental HF were less than ±19%.
