Texte intégralSebbene indagato da ricercatori e tecnici da almeno un ventennio, il tema del restauro dell'architettura moderna e contemporanea conserva a tutt'oggi immutata la sua attualità in ambito internazionale. Molto eterogene et sono infatti le posizioni teoriche ed ideologiche rispetto al patrimonio ed all'architettura moderna in ambito internazionale. Spesso contraddette da una pratica operativa troppo frettolosamente orientata verso soluzioni di ripristino dello stato originario, esse oscillano fra la linea dell' unita di metodo, per l'intervento tanto sia sul patrimonio antico che sul moderno, e quella della diversificazione specialistica, giustificata da una serie di caratteristiche e di fattori peculiari di volta attribuiti all'architettura del Novecento. In questo variegato panorama internazionale particolarmente interessante ci è sembrata la posizione francese, caratterizzata da un lungo processo di maturazione attraverso il quale è stata infine predisposta una precisa strategia di tutela e di valorizzazione dell'architettura del XX secolo. L'analisi della pratica del restauro dell'architettura del XX secolo in Francia, nel suo aspetto tecnico e metodologico, constituisce infatti il contributo centrale e originale di questo lavoro, concepito come una dettagliata indagine sul terreno attraverso l'esperienza concreta e attuale di undici cantieri di restauro condotti, fra la line degli anni Novanta e l'anno corrente. L'obiettivo di questo contributo è di fornire il supporto di conoscenze e di elementi indispensabili alla formulazione di considerazioni critiche sulla pratica francese del restauro del patrimonio recente

Texte intégralThe aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of Japan on Italian fashion from the half of the XVIth century to the end of the XXth century. The first information on Japanese clothes reached Italy around 1550, after Japan was ‘discovered’ by some Portuguese sailors who arrived on Japanese coasts after a shipwreck in 1543. However, the first mild influences of Japan on Italian fashion can be seen only after the second half of the XVIIth century when Italian noblemen started wearing kimonos as night-gowns. In addition, at that time, Japanese-style patterns derived from Japanese fabrics were introduced in some Italian fabrics. But it was just at the end of the XIXth century that a sort of Japanese culture mania called Japonisme spread out in Europe and in Italy. Since fashion is a reliable mirror of its times, also Italian fashion between 1880 and 1920 experienced more than once the influence of Japanese clothing, especially of the kimono. After late XIXth century Japonisme, the second time when Italian fashion was profoundly influenced by Japan was between the Seventies and the Nineties of the XXth century. During that phase of neo-Japonisme, some Italian fashion designers such as Mila Schön and Ken Scott repeatedly drew inspiration from old Japanese clothes. Others, such as Romeo Gigli and Ennio Capasa were influenced by contemporary Japanese fashion designers such as Kenzo Takada, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo who designed over-size clothes, often shapeless and asymmetrical.

Texte intégralSpeaking about the influence of modern means of transport (in particular about the motorcycle) in literature, fixes a new way of studying culture, because today we have to cope with more and more powerful and technologically advanced vehicles. Intellectuals acknowledge motorcycles an important role to describing society. Thanks to the motorcycle man exploits a new strength that enables him to overcome his limits. He feels a sort of divinity embodying the same peculiarities as his vehicle. In the past the horse was the most widespread means of transport while today, in an age of airplanes, ships and trains, it has been replaced by the motorcycle, both for the rider's posture and for his contact with the environment and its expressions: rain, sun and wind as well as the perfumes of the Earth. Just like the horse's motion was in the past a way to express narrative processes, the motorcycle has inherited this task today, therefore conditioning the contemporary way of living and thinking.

Texte intégralThe thesis’ purpose is to examine the presence of the saxophone in the French and Italian repertoire for orchestra in the first half of the 20th century, and aims at confirming its possible, permanent inclusion in the orchestra. The decision of investigating the repertory of the saxophone in the orchestra in France and Italy in the first decades of the 20th century was made because this instrument, created by the inventor of plenty of other musical instruments, Adolphe Sax (born in Belgium), spreads out for the first time in France during the second half of the 19th century and then ‘expatriates’ to other countries. It is France that can boast the first compositions for this instrument and it is in the 20th century that its production grows excessively. France, with its taste for the color of the instruments’ timbre, influences especially Italy, where the instrument is already present in the first half of the 19th century, thanks to Gioachino Rossini’s appreciations (who was in Paris at that time), pushing the Liceo Musicale in Bologna to buy the maison Sax’s products. My thesis is divided into three parts: the first, with a theoretical purpose, is dedicated to the presence of the saxophone in instrumentation and orchestration treatises published in France, Italy and other countries in the 19th and in the 20th century. In the second part, of explicative kind, the scores of three French composers (Ravel, Honegger and Ibert) are analyzed. Finally, the third section, of explicative kind as well, is dedicated to the study of some compositions by two Italian authors (Marinuzzi and Zandonai)

Texte intégralThe recording of the planning, executive and transformative processes of significant rationalist architectures in Forlì aims at providing a useful contribution for a deep knowledge of this heritage with the purpose of its future transmission. Starting from the archive sources and getting to the direct reading of the buildings, the study focuses on the Fascist period and it provides documentary evidence of four architectures in Forlì: the Casa del Balilla, the Santarelli Kindergarten, the Industrial Technical Institute and the Aeronautical College. Nevertheless, the detailed study of built architectures is necessary but not enough to guarantee the safeguard of a unique and unrepeatable heritage: a solid investigation of knowledge doesn’t make sense without a methodological order. Placing itself in the scenario of the restoration of the 20th century heritage, the research develops the topic from a point of view that has been little explored: the relationship between Modernity and Restoration. Indeed, although the thesis draws attention to the issues concerning the materiality and the transformation of significant rationalist architectures in Forlì, it provides a broader overview of the encounter with modernity in order to wonder whether restoration could be an expression of it. The investigation first gets to a reflection that involves the critical-methodological questions of the operation and then deepens the technical-operational aspects of the intervention that are the direct consequence of the orientation of method. It is the solicitations which the ferments of modernity can offer to the present that emerge configuring restoration as an effective expression of it. The aim is to outline a picture of deep knowledge of relevant material proofs in Forlì and to develop a treatise that might be useful, in theoretical and operative terms, to the identification of strategies oriented to the conservation and contemporary use of the 20th century architecture.

The case study of south of Catania and its districts is a useful example to apply the category of Historic Urban Landscape to a contemporary Mediterranean city. The urban development related to industrial growth; the condition of a historical suburb; the capacity to attract the people from rural areas; peopleâ s perception have of this area: all these help us to understand the south area considering the insiders and outsidersâ point of view, in the international discussion about districts history, urban landscape and planning.

Texte intégralThe research aims at exploring the activity of Mario Labò (1884-1961), architect, designer, cultural mediator, representative of the rationalist avant-garde, committed in historiographical studies, art criticism and politics. The objective is to define his cultural profile through a critical reading of the numerous written sources, to study his architectural works and the relationships established with the cultural national and international avant-garde of the beginning of the 20th century. The current bibliography and the limited number of studied carried on Mario Labò are insufficient to point out the importance of his architectural production and, above all, of Labò himself as “man of culture”, with his relationships and his active role in the dialogue with other representatives of modern architecture. The research wants to describe the first six decades of the 20th century through a detailed analysis of Labò’s archives and cultural works.

Texte intégralWe have compared how irony was used by two women writers at the beginning of the 20th century: the French Colette and the Italian Clelia Romano Pellicano. We have examined the navels of Claudine's series by Colette, and the two collections of short-stories Coppie and Novelle calabresi by Pellicano. The missing biography of the Italian writer has also been reconstructed. For this analysis we have revised the notion of feminine irony (and humor) and of women's comedy, reconstrueting the panorama of the existing theories and reconsidering some studies about the interdiscursive and relational dimensions proper of literary irony. We have historically contextualised our analysis identifying the characteristics of Belle Epoque's esprit and the relationship between caricatures and literary charge. We have picked out the ternis of the debate of this period about the excess and the quality of that female literature disqualified by the adjective « muliebre ». In this debate Colette has appeared as term of comparison for the works of the Italian women witers. Pellicano and Colette's irony emerges as a discursive strategy through which it is possible to inaugurate a "caring" conflict with the Other, in order to uncover the contradictions of their time and to deal with delicated subjets or themes considered awkward (i. E. The authorities' corruption or the relationship between sexes). Both women writers were related to the literary realistic model of their time by an irreverent way. We have studied it also reflecting upon the relationship between irony and Naturalism. Through irony and even self-irony about their status as women writers, they have created a relation with their readers

Texte intégralLa investigación tiene por objeto analizar desde una perspectiva de género la construcción discursivo-iconográfica de la locura en la mujer por el saber psiquiátrico uruguayo a principios de siglo XX. Para ello se realizará un análisis discursivo de los casos psiquiátricos publicados por los psiquiatras que ejercían la enseñanza en la Universidad de Montevideo y que atendían a las mujeres encerradas en el Manicomio Nacional de Montevideo, para posteriormente realizar un análisis de los retratos fotográficos de aquellas mujeres captados por los mismos psiquiatras. A su vez, se hará una revisión del rol que tuvo la fotografía para el saber científico uruguayo para la construcción de aquellos diagnósticos, así como para el control y disciplinamiento de los cuerpos y psiquis de las mujeres. Se propondrá que la locura en la mujer, más específicamente la histeria, habría sido un diagnóstico construido por la psiquiatría, con el objetivo de patologizar a las mujeres que se alejaban del ideal de mujer esperado por la sociedad de aquella época; así también, se planteará que las escrituras de casos clínicos junto con la realización de retratos fotográficos de las mujeres encerradas en el Manicomio Nacional de Montevideo constituyeron un medio para construir aquella imagen de la locura y validarla. Creemos que este estudio sería relevante al considerar al saber médico uruguayo como un símil a la realidad chilena, dado el constante contacto que mantenían los psiquiatras y médicos del Cono Sur por medio de los congresos médicos y científicos, compartiendo conocimientos y paradigmas.

Texte intégralThe aim of this research was to reconstruct the history of "Pro Infantia" over its initial twenty years of publication (1913-1933). The first step in the study was to analyse the political debate on education and the cultural and educational backdrop against which the publishing house, La Scuola, decided to set up a journal for infant school teachers. The core of the research work involved examining the journal’s positions on the legislation of the period – such as the programs for infant schools issued by Credaro in 1914, the Gentile reform and the programs drawn up by Giuseppe Lombardo Radice in 1923 – and its assessments of the teaching practices and educational methods adopted in contemporary infant schools, as well as of teachers’ associations, and infant teacher training courses. Finally, scrutiny of the journal’s content also shed light on the policies adopted by La Scuola and "Pro Infantia"’s stance concerning both key historical developments in Italian early childhood education and broader political and social events, such as World War One, the post-war period, the rise of fascism and the advent of the fascist dictatorship.

Texte intégralThis doctoral thesis challenges the simplistic doxa in theatre historiography that views genesis of theatre direction in Italy as a late phenomenon in comparison to other countries such as Germany, France, and Russia. This “delay” is thought to be due to the actor’s persistent self-referential tradition. According to the doxa, the Italian theatre system would have been resistant to the introduction of the new role of director, which was perceived as extraneous. This situation would have been caused in Italy by the popularity of wandering companies and the absence of a dominant theatrical focal point such as Paris was in France. The phenomenon of a strictly speaking regìa would have only emerged after the Second World War. This view has led to a series of misinterpretations and misunderstandings that oversimplify the phenomenon of the development of modern direction, favouring a teleological argument of qualitative progress. However, a number of studies carried out from the 2000’s encourage us to consider the direction as a complex aspect of the theatrical art. Concepts such as ‘proto-direction’ (Perrelli, 2005) and continuity/discontinuity (Sarrazac-Consolini, 2010), show the limits of an univocal definition of this art. In light of these studies, the Italian panorama appears as an uncharted territory. A recent study of the European directors’ tours in Italy for the years from the 1911 to 1940, has actually demonstrated the Italian system’s responsiveness (Schino, 2008).My research investigates the origin of the concept of “delay”, and the reasons by which theatre direction in Italy came to be considered by scholars as some sort of grail. I also highlight how direction in Italy emerges from the main source of the supposed delay itself: the actor. Indeed, the appearance of theatre direction is not abrupt; but rather a multifaceted art, which changes according to artists’ modus operandi and is dependent on the characteristics of the theatrical system
