Research subject. A tectonic block of ophiolites, corresponding to the root zone of a sheeted dike complex, in the eastern part of the Revdinsky massif of the Platinum-bearing belt of the Urals (UPB).Materials and methods. Zircons for dating were collected in the first-generation dolerite dikes of the sheeted dike complex under study, which had been previously considered as Ordovician. U-Pb dating of zircons was performed by LA-ICP-MS on a NexION 300S quadrupole mass spectrometer with a laser ablation attachment NWR 213.Results. Zircons with an age of 425.6 ± 2.9 Ma are characterized by primary magmatic zoning and apparently correspond to the time of intrusion of the sheeted dike complex. In zircons with an age of 404.0 ± 2.9 Ma, inclusions of metamorphogenic minerals (amphibole, chamosite, quartz, clinozoisite) were discovered. This age reflects rock recrystallization or metamorphism, for example, during the intrusion of later vein rocks of the diorite-tonalite series or dolerite dikes of the second generation. Three points of determination showed a younger age of 362 ± 5.6 Ma, probably reflecting the time of metamorphism at the beginning of collisional processes. Conclusions. For the first time, the Silurian U-Pb age of zircons (LA-ICP-MS) was obtained for the ophiolite block (root zone of the sheeted dike complex) in the structure of the Revdinsky massif UPB. The obtained age of intrusion of the sheeted dike complex (425.6 ± 2.9 Ma) coincides with the age of zircons (428.5 ± 3.7 Ma) from gabbro screens in sheeted dikes of the East Ural zone determined earlier (Smirnov, Ivanov, 2010) and corresponds to the time of spreading over the subduction zone in the Middle Urals.

Le domaine intracontinental est éloigné des limites des plaques tectoniques sur lesquelles sont localisées l’essentiel des déformations. La déformation intraplaque est une conséquence de la transmission de la contrainte depuis les limites de plaques vers le domaine intraplaque. Elle peut s’exprimer par un flambage lithosphérique, par des déformations régionales et des réseaux de fractures à micro- et méso-échelle. Ces déformations reflètent la nature des régimes de contraintes aux limites des plaques continentales. Elles ont une distribution hétérogène et à l'échelle régionale, révèlent souvent les directions d'un cadre structural préexistant. Le rôle de cet héritage structural à l'échelle micro et méso reste cependant mal compris. Ce travail de thèse se concentre sur les déformations cassantes à micro- (millimétrique à centimétrique) et méso-échelle (centimétrique à métrique) du domaine intra-plaque.Dans les zones urbaines avec des infrastructures souterraines importantes, il est essentiel de mieux comprendre la géométrie et la distribution des réseaux de fractures. Ces réseaux contrôlent, dans une certaine mesure, la dynamique de la circulation des fluides souterrains. Dans le cadre de cette thèse, la distribution, les géométries, les cinématiques et les chronologies relatives et absolues de ces déformations intraplaques ont été étudiées dans le Bassin de Paris. Pour ce faire, nous avons utilisé une approche multi-technique combinant travail de terrain et de laboratoire, afin d'aborder à deux échelles différentes : la micro-échelle et la méso-échelle. Les différentes méthodes utilisées sont l’inversion des données microtectoniques pour remonter à des paleo-contraintes, la datation absolue U-Pb des calcites de veines et de faille, et l'inversion des données de susceptibilité magnétique et de vitesse des ondes P afin de caractériser les microstructures internes des échantillons de roches.Les résultats nous permettent de proposer un modèle de déformations intraplaques dans le Bassin de Paris et de discuter du lien avec les événements géodynamiques de l'Europe occidentale tels que les orogénèses pyrénéenne et alpine et le système de rifting cénozoïque européen (ECRIS).Les données montrent que les déformations intraplaques dans le Bassin de Paris sont plus qu'une simple réactivation des discontinuités du socle. Ces déformations s’expriment via un vaste réseau de joints cassants, et sous forme de réseaux de failles, bien que plus rares. Enfin, grâce à la datation U-Pb de la calcite, nous montrons que la chronologie du réseau de failles spatialement hétérogène est surtout contemporaine des phases paroxysmales de déformation de l'orogenèse pyrénéenne. Ainsi, les champs de paléocontraintes déduits de l’inversion des plans de failles datés indiquent davantage l'orientation de la compression pyrénéenne que celle de la compression alpine ou de l'extension de l'ECRIS. Enfin, l'anisotropie de la vitesse des ondes P suggère que le réseau interne de fractures microstructurales des échantillons de craie reflète la nature géométrique des joints mesurés sur le terrain
The intracontinental domain is located far from tectonic plate margins, where significant stress can accumulate. Deformation of the intraplate domain is a consequence of stress transmission from plate boundaries. It results in lithospheric buckling, regional deformations, and meso to microscale fracture networks. These intraplate deformations reflect the nature of stress regimes at continental plate boundaries. They often have a heterogeneous distribution, and on a regional scale, are frequently impacted by the directions of pre-existing faults or weaknesses. The role of a structural inheritance remains to be shown on a micro and mesoscale.Understanding intraplate deformation is crucial for assessing geological hazards and fluid circulation in the context of subsurface solicitation. This is especially true in densely populated areas with substantial underground infrastructure. In this PhD, we investigate the geometries, distribution, kinematics, and timing of these intraplate deformations within the intracontinental Paris Sedimentary Basin, with the city of Paris at its center.To achieve this and to attempt to link the different scales of structures, we use multiple techniques, combining fieldwork and laboratory work, in order to approach the problem from two different scales: the mesoscale (metric to centimetric) and microscale (centimetric to millimetric). The structural analyses include calculating paleostress fields from microtectonic data collected in the field and in-situ U-Pb absolute dating of synkinematic calcites and calcitic veins. The microscale is investigated through the inversion of magnetic susceptibility and P-wave velocity data to characterize the internal microstructures of rock samples.The data show that an extensive network of multi-directional brittle joints exists and is expressed at different scales. In chalk samples for example, the measured anisotropy of P-wave velocity reflects the directions of mesoscale joints measured in the field. When the applied shear stress exceeds the shear strength of the joint, failure occurs. This can manifest as sliding or fracturing along the joint plane. Thus, some of the joints are reactivated later. Evidences of faulting, while less common than joints, also exist in the Paris Basin. Calculated paleostress tensors indicate mostly strike-slip faulting regimes with maximal principal stress axes (sigma1) roughly N-S. This direction is concordant with the N-S orientation of Pyrenean compression more so than Alpine compression or Tertiary extension at the origin of the European rifted continental basins. Furthermore, through in-situ U-Pb dating of calcite mineralized along fault planes or within veins, we show that the Late Cretaceous to Eocene timing of the fault network is more aligned with the Pyrenean Orogeny than the Alpine Orogeny or the European Cenozoic Rift System (ECRIS)

Der Baikalsee ist ein ideales Klimaarchiv für die Mitte Eurasiens. In dieser Arbeit wurde gesteinsmagnetische und paleomagnetische Analysen an hemipelagischen Sequenzen von vier Lokationen analysiert. Die Kerne erreichen ein Alter von maximal 300 ky. In Kombination mit TEM, XRD, XRF und geochemischen Analysen zeigt die gesteinsmagnetische Studie, dass detritischer Magnetit das magnetische Signal der glazialen Sedimente dominiert. Die magnetischen Signale der interglazialen Sedimente wurden durch diagenetische Prozesse verändert. Mittels HIRM können Hämatit und Goethit quantifiziert werden. Diese Methode eignet sich, den detritischen Eintrag in den Baikalsee abzuschätzen. Relative Paleointensitäten des Erdmagnetfeldes ergaben reproduizerbare Muster, welche in Korrelation mit gutdatierten Referenzproben die Ableitung eines alternativen Altersmodells für die Datierung der Baikalsedimente ermöglichten. Bei Anwendung des paleomagnetischen Altersmodells beobachtet man, dass die Abkühlung im Baikalgebiet und im Oberflächenwasser des Nordatlantiks wie sie aus den δ18 O-Werten planktonischer Foraminiferen abgeleitet werden kann, zeitgleich ist. Wird das aus benthischen δ18 O-Werten abgeleitete Altermdodell auf den Baikalsee angewandt, ergibt sich eine deutliche Zeitverschiebung. Das benthische Altersmodell repräsentiert die globale Veränderung des Eisvolumens, welche später als die Vänderung der Oberflächenwassertemperatur auftritt. Die Kompilation paleomagnetischer Kurven ergab eine neue relative Paleointensitätskurve “Baikal 200”. Mittels Korngrössenanalyse des Detritus konnten drei Faziestypen mit unterschiedlicher Sedimentationsdynamik unterschieden werden: 1) Glaziale Peroiden werden durch hohe Tongehalte infolge von Windeintrag und durch grobe Sandfraktion mittels Transport durch lokale Winde über das Eis charakterisiert. Dieser Faziestyp deutet auf arides Klima. 2) Während der Glazial/Interglazial-Übergänge steigt die Siltfraktion an. Dies deutet auf erhöhte Feuchtigkeit und damit verbunden erhöhte Sedimentdynamik. Windtransport und in den Schnee der Eisdecke eingetragener Staub sind die vorherrschenden Prozesse, welche den Silt in hemipelagischer Position zur Ablagerung bringen. 3) Während des klimatischen Optimum des Eeemian werden Grösse und Quantität des Silts minimal, was auf eine geschlossene Vegetationsdecke im Hinterland deutet.
Lake Baikal provides an excellent climatic archive for Central Eurasia as global climatic variations are continuously depicted in its sediments. We performed continuous rock magnetic and paleomagnetic analyses on hemipelagic sequences retrieved from 4 underwater highs reaching back 300 ka. The rock magnetic study combined with TEM, XRD, XRF and geochemical analyses evidenced that a magnetite of detrital origin dominates the magnetic signal in glacial sediments whereas interglacial sediments are affected by early diagenesis. HIRM roughly quantifies the hematite and goethite contributions and remains the best proxy for estimating the detrital input in Lake Baikal. Relative paleointensity records of the earth′s magnetic field show a reproducible pattern, which allows for correlation with well-dated reference curves and thus provides an alternative age model for Lake Baikal sediments. Using the paleomagnetic age model we observed that cooling in the Lake Baikal region and cooling of the sea surface water in the North Atlantic, as recorded in planktonic foraminifera δ18 O, are coeval. On the other hand, benthic δ18 O curves record mainly the global ice volume change, which occurs later than the sea surface temperature change. This proves that a dating bias results from an age model based on the correlation of Lake Baikal sedimentary records with benthic δ18 O curves. The compilation of paleomagnetic curves provides a new relative paleointensity curve, “Baikal 200”. With a laser-assisted grain size analysis of the detrital input, three facies types, reflecting different sedimentary dynamics can be distinguished. (1) Glacial periods are characterised by a high clay content mostly due to wind activity and by occurrence of a coarse fraction (sand) transported over the ice by local winds. This fraction gives evidence for aridity in the hinterland. (2) At glacial/interglacial transitions, the quantity of silt increases as the moisture increases, reflecting increased sedimentary dynamics. Wind transport and snow trapping are the dominant process bringing silt to a hemipelagic site (3) During the climatic optimum of the Eemian, the silt size and quantity are minimal due to blanketing of the detrital sources by the vegetal cover.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Überwindung einer Differenz, die zwischen der Theorie der Phase bzw. der Phasendynamik und ihrer Anwendung in der Zeitreihenanalyse besteht: Während die theoretische Phase eindeutig bestimmt und invariant unter Koordinatentransformationen bzw. gegenüber der jeweils gewählten Observable ist, führen die Standardmethoden zur Abschätzung der Phase aus gegebenen Zeitreihen zu Resultaten, die einerseits von den gewählten Observablen abhängen und so andererseits das jeweilige System keineswegs in eindeutiger und invarianter Weise beschreiben. Um diese Differenz deutlich zu machen, wird die terminologische Unterscheidung von Phase und Protophase eingeführt: Der Terminus Phase wird nur für Variablen verwendet, die dem theoretischen Konzept der Phase entsprechen und daher das jeweilige System in invarianter Weise charakterisieren, während die observablen-abhängigen Abschätzungen der Phase aus Zeitreihen als Protophasen bezeichnet werden. Der zentrale Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist die Entwicklung einer deterministischen Transformation, die von jeder Protophase eines selbsterhaltenden Oszillators zur eindeutig bestimmten Phase führt. Dies ermöglicht dann die invariante Beschreibung gekoppelter Oszillatoren und ihrer Wechselwirkung. Die Anwendung der Transformation bzw. ihr Effekt wird sowohl an numerischen Beispielen demonstriert - insbesondere wird die Phasentransformation in einem Beispiel auf den Fall von drei gekoppelten Oszillatoren erweitert - als auch an multivariaten Messungen des EKGs, des Pulses und der Atmung, aus denen Phasenmodelle der kardiorespiratorischen Wechselwirkung rekonstruiert werden. Abschließend wird die Phasentransformation für autonome Oszillatoren auf den Fall einer nicht vernachlässigbaren Amplitudenabhängigkeit der Protophase erweitert, was beispielsweise die numerischen Bestimmung der Isochronen des chaotischen Rössler Systems ermöglicht.
The aim of this work is to bridge the gap between the theoretical description of the phase dynamics of coupled oscillators and the application of the theory to model reconstruction from time series analysis. In the theory, the phase of a self-sustained oscillator is defined in an unambiguous way, whereas the standard techniques used to estimate phases from given time series provide observabledependent results, so that generally these estimates deviate from the true phase. To stress this crucial issue, we term the observable-dependent phase-like variables as protophases. The main goal of this work is to develop a deterministic transformation from arbitrary protophases to the true, unique phase of the selfsustained oscillator. This approach allows us to obtain an invariant description of coupled oscillators and of their interaction. The application of the transformation and its efficiency are illustrated by means of numerical examples, as well as by the reconstruction of phase models of the cardiorespiratory interaction from multivariate time series of ECG, pulse and respiration. Next, the transformation from protophases to phases is extended for the case of three coupled oscillators. Finally, we go beyond the phase approximation and extend the phase transformation for autonomous oscillators to the case when the amplitude dynamics cannot be neglected. This technique for example allows us to compute numerically the isochrones of the chaotic Roessler system.

La maggior parte dei moderni dispositivi e macchinari, sia ad uso civile che industriale, utilizzano sistemi elettronici che ne supervisionano e ne controllano il funzionamento. All’ interno di questi apparati è quasi certamente impiegato un sistema di controllo digitale che svolge, anche grazie alle potenzialità oggi raggiunte, compiti che fino a non troppi anni or sono erano dominio dell’ elettronica analogica, si pensi ad esempio ai DSP (Digital Signal Processor) oggi impiegati nei sistemi di telecomunicazione. Nonostante l'elevata potenza di calcolo raggiunta dagli odierni microprocessori/microcontrollori/DSP dedicati alle applicazioni embedded, quando è necessario eseguire elaborazioni complesse, time-critical, dovendo razionalizzare e ottimizzare le risorse a disposizione, come ad esempio spazio consumo e costi, la scelta ricade inevitabilmente sui dispositivi FPGA. I dispositivi FPGA, acronimo di Field Programmable Gate Array, sono circuiti integrati a larga scala d’integrazione (VLSI, Very Large Scale of Integration) che possono essere configurati via software dopo la produzione. Si differenziano dai microprocessori poiché essi non eseguono un software, scritto ad esempio in linguaggio assembly oppure in linguaggio C. Sono invece dotati di risorse hardware generiche e configurabili (denominate Configurable Logic Block oppure Logic Array Block, a seconda del produttore del dispositivo) che per mezzo di un opportuno linguaggio, detto di descrizione hardware (HDL, Hardware Description Language) vengono interconnesse in modo da costituire circuiti logici digitali. In questo modo, è possibile far assumere a questi dispositivi funzionalità logiche qualsiasi, non previste in origine dal progettista del circuito integrato ma realizzabili grazie alle strutture programmabili in esso presenti.

The Museum of Natural History of the University of Florence, founded in 1775 by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo d'Asburgo Lorena, is one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific museums in the world. The fourth volume on the Collections of the Mineralogy and Lithology Section, published like the previous volumes by the Firenze University Press, fits perfectly in the series dedicated to the collections of the University's Museum System. The first part of the book describes in great detail the paths that led to the formation of the collections, starting with those dating to the Medici period and arriving at the specimens collected during recent expeditions. The second part illustrates and documents the extraordinary specimens of minerals, hardstone carvings and meteorites which represent the material patrimony of this section. Particular attention is given to the holotypes, the Elban Collection and the minerals of pegmatites, as well as the methods and solutions adopted to realize the project of the new museum exhibition set-up. The third and last part describes the studies carried out on the materials: from the minerals of the systematic collections to the rock specimens that recount not only the geodiversity of a region but also the history of a city.

This paper analyses the role of objects in the payment of taxes in the market town of Najac, in Rouergue, through a study of the first register of accounts of this place, between 1258 and 1273. This document, which was drawn up when the municipal government introduced a system of municipal taxation, lists each year the taxpayers who had defaulted and deposited items to guarantee the sums they owed in tax. These pledges were often recovered by their owners the following year, once their tax debt had been settled. But some of them were left to the consulate, which saled them to recover its debt.

AbstractThe Mozambican state has had a long history of a cash transfer programme dating back to 1992. It targeted primarily the elderly, in a move to protect these and their families from extreme poverty. After urban riots broke out in 2008 against cuts in fuel subsidies and general unhappiness with the outcomes of the structural adjustments of the 1990s, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), United Nations (UN), and World Bank analysed, designed, proposed, and funded the scaling up of the food subsidies programme and alternatives. Although there was a division of labour between international organisations, not all were on board with the cash transfer programmes, which led to weaknesses and a fragmented approach to the new programmes.

AbstractEnvironmental magnetism is recognised as a sensitive tool for reconstructing various processes related to the iron cycling in the terrestrial environment. Besides, archaeomagnetism as an interdisciplinary method in archaeology provides geophysical tools for dating and synchronisation of burnt clay remains throughout the last ~8000 years. Linking both research directions opens up far-reaching opportunities for a complex characterisation of ancient human occupation and its impact on the environment. In this contribution, we summarise the state of the art in the synergetic application of the archaeo- and environmental magnetism carried out in Bulgaria during the last decades. We showcase various examples from our practice to demonstrate the potential of this approach for enhancing our understanding of the ancient world.

This paper contrasts the dative/accusative alternations in Romance languages with Romanian: In Romance, this alternation mediates the emergence of a DOM particle for direct objects, in addition to the preservation of the same particle with the indirect object (morphological extension). The case assigning property of this particle is paramount in both contexts. On the other hand, in Romanian, the dative/accusative alternation ends up with the complete substitution of one syntactic pattern by the other in the same position; e.g., dative inflected direct objects of Old Romanian (theme/patient theta-role) are substituted by accusatives with or without DOM in Modern Romanian. The change concerns the general option for analytical versus synthetic case in the grammar, irrespective of DOM. This contrast confirms the conclusions of previous studies that the development of DOM in Romanian involves different morpho-syntactic patterns than those proposed for Romance languages (e.g., Spanish), especially with respect to the origin and function of the DOM particle and the pairing of case marking on DP and the theta-roles they spell out.

AbstractThe Western Middle Ages witnessed the emergence of a wide array of economic theories of public life and the common good that emphasized the worthiness (indeed priority) of ensuring a satisfactory arrangement of economic goods primarily for the sake of meeting the physical, temporal needs of individuals from all classes and orders. The chapter surveys a plethora of texts, dating from the middle of the twelfth century up to the end of the fifteenth, that considered pragmatic issues related to how the material self-interest of human beings coincided with the augmentation of public wealth within a community, and especially how governmental policies promoted or hampered the goal of personal economic improvement. Despite the diversity of and occasional discordance among these writings, all of them fundamentally agree on two interrelated points: (1) the pursuit of material self-interest, rather than conflicting with or detracting from the common good, actually supports and enhances it; (2) the responsibility of government to promote the public welfare requires paying careful attention to the protection and promotion of private advantage.

Ziel dieses erneuten Zugangs ist es, eine größere Bandbreite von Auszubildenden mit unterschiedlichen Unterrichtsfächer und damit auch unterschiedlichen Fachleitungen zu berücksichtigen. Die Daten wurden während einer Gruppendiskussion im Kernseminar erhoben. Das Verfahren der Datenanalyse stützt sich bei diesem Zugang auf die Systematisierung und Auswertung der von den LAA verwendeten Metaphern, die sich innerhalb der Diskussion als ein kohärentes System beschreiben lassen. Als Ergebnis kann ein komplexes Verständnis der erkenntnisleitenden Vorstellungen der Referendar:innen zu ihrer Ausbildung gewonnen werden.

AbstractDevelopments in mobile digital technologies are disrupting conventional understandings of space and place for smartphone users. One way in which location-based media are refiguring previously taken-for-granted spatial traditions is via GPS-enabled online dating and hook-up apps. For sexual minorities, these apps can reconfigure any street, park, bar, or home into a queer space through a potential meeting between mutually attracted individuals, but what does this signify for already-existing queer spaces? This chapter examines how smartphone apps including Grindr, Tinder, and Blued synthesize online queer encounter with offline physical space to create a new hybrid terrain predicated on availability, connection, and encounter. It is also a terrain that can sidestep established gay neighborhoods entirely. I explore how this hybridization impacts on older, physically rooted gay neighborhoods and the role that these neighborhoods have traditionally played in brokering social and sexual connection for sexual minorities. Few would deny that location-based apps have come to play a valuable role in multiplying opportunities for sexual minorities. However, the stratospheric rise of these technologies also provokes questions about their impact on embodied encounter, queer community, and a sense of place. A decade on from Grindr’s release, this chapter evaluates the impact of location-based media on gay spaces and reflects on what the increasing hybridization of online and offline spaces for same-sex encounter might mean for queer lives of the future.

Application of the modifications of the radiocarbon method are presented that allowed accurate dating of archaeological sites of the 1st millennium AD. The use of wiggle-match dating on tree rings from the excavations of the settlement of Gnezdovo on the upper Dnieper made it possible to date the foundation of the settlement to the end of the 8th century AD, a century older than previously existing ideas. Identification in tree rings of the AD 775 solar proton event («Miyake event») made it possible to date the construction of the walls of the ancient Uigur complex Por-Bajin with an accuracy of up to a year, and in combination with dendrochronological data – up to the season: summer AD 777, over a quarter of century younger than the previously accepted date (AD 750). Together with the historical context, this helped to confirm the hypothesis that the building has a cult purpose rather than a fortification (a Manichean monastery).

Bayesian phylogenetic algorithms are computationally intensive. BEAST 1.10 inferences made use of the BEAGLE 3 high-performance library for efficient likelihood computations. The strategy allows phylogenetic inference and dating in current knowledge for SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Follow-up simulations on hybrid resources of Santos Dumont supercomputer using four phylogenomic data sets, we characterize the scaling performance behavior of BEAST 1.10. Our results provide insight into the species tree and MCMC chain length estimation, identifying preferable requirements to improve the use of high-performance computing resources. Ongoing steps involve analyzes of SARS-CoV-2 using BEAST 1.8 in multi-GPUs.

This paper publishes details of the find of an iron biconical brush mould discovered in a cultural layer of the 16th century in the Tula Kremlin (during excavations in 2014). Study of this example of percussive weapon, along with other analagous weaponry items, illustrated drawbacks in the existing periodization of this type of weapon over the periods of the 13th 16th centuries, which was drawn up by Dr A.N. Kirpichnikov. Dating of the analogous pieces, along with pictorial sources, enables atttribution of biconical brushstones to the weaponry of the armies of the Muscovian state during the 15th 17th centuries.

This work is based on the research materials of shoreline landforms of Lake Ladoga. Determining their age, combined with leveling data, allows for a detailed history of water level changes in the Holocene. Two sites on the coast of Lake Ladoga were selected for the study: the Storozhensky Peninsula on the southern shore and the Taipalovsky Bay on the western shore. The accumulative terraces of the Storozhensky Peninsula are characterized by well-defined ancient beach ridges. The research conducted in this area allows for the precise determination of the timing of the Ladoga transgression’s culmination and the lake’s level during this period. In addition to the system of ridges, the coast of Taipalovsky Bay features a large barrier ridge up to 5 meters high. OSL dating indicates that this landform did not form during the last transgressive stage, as previously thought, but has an older, likely Littorina age. As a result, the obtained data allow for a comparison of lake level dynamics in different areas, thereby advancing towards determining the influence of tectonic movements.

This paper introduces five metrics for measuring the frequencies of dative predicatives in Russian.А dative predicative is a word or multiword expression licensing the dative-predicative-structure, where the semantic subject of the non-agreeing non-verbal predicate is marked by the dative case. I measure the frequencies of the predicatives in the contact position <-1;1> with the same-clause dative subject pronouns in 1Sg (m-metrics) and 3Sg (e-metrics). The m-metrics is applied for retrieving a list of dative predicatives from a corpus. I argue that for each large text collection there is a minimal m-value confirming that an item belongs to the core of the dative-predicative structure. The m/e score makes up the third metrics that shows whether an element is oriented towards the use in the 1 st person or not. Basing on the m-metrics, I retrieved 3 lists of predicatives in the subcorpus of 2000–2021 texts included in the Russian National Corpus. The A list includes 87 items with m  10, the B list includes 44 items with m  50, the C list includes 24 items with m  100. 72-79% of items in each list have an m/e value  1,25. A linguistic interpretation of this result is that for each list of dative predicatives it is true that the majority of its elements are autoreferential expressions oriented towards the use in the 1st person present indicative tense in the direct speech. The fourth metrics shows the total number of occurrences of a word or multiword expression in the corpus (N). I argue that the N score must be measured before POS tagging, and lemmatization. The fifth and the last metrics is the m/N score. The RNC data suggest an inverse correlation between the score of an item in the context specific for dative-predicative structures (m) and its overall frequency in the corpus (N). This effect is explained by the regular homonymy of high frequent predicatives with high frequent adverbials and parenthetical expressions.

Zircons in zonal dunite-clinopyroxenite massifs represent a bank of isotopic data on the brightest moments in the life of his generations in the range up to 3 billion years. The chronological coincidence of the set of such dating forms distinct “family” clusters with reference homologous series of “named” impact events in strict galactic periodicity leads us to the unequivocal conclusion that these coincidences are a natural manifestation of galactic periodicity (with a period of 215 Ma) of all endogenous and impact events in the history of the Earth since the origin of the Earth-Moon system 4.515 billion years ago [20, 9]. The zonal dunite-clinopyroxenite massifs turn out to be the richest archives of isotopic information about the age and transformations of the Earth’s substance almost from the moment of its birth in the Hadean in bowels of the Earth.

The article represents the results of the authors’ work on the Tyritaka rampart in the Eastern Crimea in 2017–2018. During the large-scale security and rescue excavations, was investigated a significant area (about 8,500 sq. m.) of the rampart and ditch, located to the north of the Yuz-Oba ridge. There were obtained stratigraphic sections and was collected numerous archaeological material, which can be chronologically divided into three main groups: Hellenistic (IV-III centuries BC), Roman time (I century BC - II century BC). AD) and late antique - early medieval. On basis of the sections stratigraphy data and the generally accepted finds dating, the authors suppose, that the rampart construction dated up to the IV century BC, or a little later, and it was reconstructed in the 1st century BC, during the reign of Asandros. In general, this conclusion does not contradict to the conclusions of the past researches.

Rijeka‑Fiume, European Capital of Culture in 2020, has always been multicultural and multiethnic dating back to its most ancient origins, with the Italian language playing a key role for many centuries. Place names on the most ancient maps of the city are in Italian, just like, for the most part, the street names on the maps drawn up in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which Tito’s regime substituted with new names, cancelling any trace whatsoever of the historical Italian presence. In view of the appointment of the city as European Capital of Culture in 2020, the city council has launched an interesting cultural project envisaging the restoration of the name Fiume next to Rijeka and the recovery of 31 historical street names, by installing bilingual signs indicating the ancient names of the streets and squares in the town centre. The paper examines a selection of the names that best document the rich and diversified history of the city.

During the past 30 years many fatigue tests and fatigue analysis improvements have been developed in France in order to improve Codified Fatigue Rules of RCC-M, RSE-M and RCC-MRx. This paper will present comments and proposals for development of these rules associated to Gaps and Needs in order to finalize and justify the AFCEN Codes new rules. Recently 3 new international R&D results confirm possible un-conservative fatigue material data: - High cycle fatigue in air for stainless steel, - Environmental effects on fatigue S-N curve for all materials, and in particular stainless steels, - Fatigue Crack Growth law under PWR environment for stainless steel. In front of these new results, AFCEN is working on a 1st set of rules based on existing knowledge: - Air fatigue curve - PWR Environmental effects A periodic up-dating of AFCEN proposed rules will be done using French and International R&D programs with a particular attention on harmonization with other Code rules developed in USA, Japan and Germany, in particular.

Bridge load-rating analysis is typically used to assess the safe load-carrying capacity of bridges. However, in many cases, this analytical approach was proven to be too conservative, which leads to unnecessary bridge postings and road restrictions. In such cases, field testing is sought as a more reliable method for assessing the structural condition of the investigated bridge. This study focused on investigating the efficacy and practicality of performing load rating on reinforced concrete slab bridges in Illinois using two field testing methods—namely, diagnostic and proof load testing. The versatility of both methods was examined through testing six different slab bridges of varying characteristics and conditions. The tested bridges included single- and double-span bridges with span lengths varying between 20.5 ft and 32 ft, and skew angles varying between 0 and 55 degrees. The bridges also varied in age, with the first tested bridge’s construction dating as far back as 1925. The research assessed the type of instrumentation and data acquisition system used as well as the challenges associated with setting up these devices in the field. The analytical and field-based load-rating factors were compared for each bridge. The results showed the effectiveness of field testing in providing a relatively fast and reliable assessment of the structural condition of the investigated bridges. The methods adopted and developed in this research will assist the Illinois Department of Transportation in making future decisions about the condition of bridges in Illinois.

Start-up Inkubatoren bzw. Akzeleratoren nehmen am Innovationsstandort Österreich eine wachsende Rolle ein. Junge, dynamisch wachsende Unternehmen fragen zunehmend Arbeitsumgebungen nach, in denen sie Infrastruktur und Dienstleistungen aus einer Hand erhalten, um sich besser auf die Entwicklung des Unternehmens bzw. des Produkts fokussieren zu können. Obwohl es in Österreich bereits eine Reihe von Inkubatoren/Akzeleratoren gibt, so fehlen sehr oft die Mittel, um auch im internationalen Vergleich professionelle Dienstleistungen inkubierten Firmen anbieten zu können. Um diese Hindernisse zu überwinden, wurde im Jahr 2015 das Pilot-Programm "JumpStart" gestartet. Bisher wurden 2 Ausschreibungsrunden 2015/2016 für das Modul 1 erfolgreich abgeschlossen und die besten 10 Konzepte von Inkubatoren/Akzeleratoren ausgewählt und gefördert. Im Rahmen des Moduls 2 werden jeweils bis zu fünf Unternehmen, die in den unter Modul 1 geförderten Inkubatoren/Akzeleratoren betreut werden, für eine Förderung ausgewählt. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht diese Studie das Programmdesign, die Programmumsetzung sowie die Programmwirkung (Outputs, Outcomes und Impacts) des JumpStart-Programms. Darauf aufbauend werden Vorschläge für die Weiterentwicklung des Programms formuliert. Dazu wurden 25 Interviews mit den LeiterInnen der geförderten Inkubatoren, mit inkubierten Startups und weiteren Stakeholdern durchgeführt. Ferner wurde im Frühjahr 2021 eine Online-Befragung an Startups, die an JumpStart-Inkubatoren ansässig waren oder sind bzw. deren Dienstleistungen in Anspruch genommen haben, durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse dieser Befragung werden mit Daten von Startups aus dem ASM (Kontrollgruppe) vergleichend analysiert.

The main recommendations of the panel report can be summarised under five key headings:  Building the Scottish Bronze Age: Narratives should be developed to account for the regional and chronological trends and diversity within Scotland at this time. A chronology Bronze Age Scotland: ScARF Panel Report iv based upon Scottish as well as external evidence, combining absolute dating (and the statistical modelling thereof) with re-examined typologies based on a variety of sources – material cultural, funerary, settlement, and environmental evidence – is required to construct a robust and up to date framework for advancing research.  Bronze Age people: How society was structured and demographic questions need to be imaginatively addressed including the degree of mobility (both short and long-distance communication), hierarchy, and the nature of the ‘family’ and the ‘individual’. A range of data and methodologies need to be employed in answering these questions, including harnessing experimental archaeology systematically to inform archaeologists of the practicalities of daily life, work and craft practices.  Environmental evidence and climate impact: The opportunity to study the effects of climatic and environmental change on past society is an important feature of this period, as both palaeoenvironmental and archaeological data can be of suitable chronological and spatial resolution to be compared. Palaeoenvironmental work should be more effectively integrated within Bronze Age research, and inter-disciplinary approaches promoted at all stages of research and project design. This should be a two-way process, with environmental science contributing to interpretation of prehistoric societies, and in turn, the value of archaeological data to broader palaeoenvironmental debates emphasised. Through effective collaboration questions such as the nature of settlement and land-use and how people coped with environmental and climate change can be addressed.  Artefacts in Context: The Scottish Chalcolithic and Bronze Age provide good evidence for resource exploitation and the use, manufacture and development of technology, with particularly rich evidence for manufacture. Research into these topics requires the application of innovative approaches in combination. This could include biographical approaches to artefacts or places, ethnographic perspectives, and scientific analysis of artefact composition. In order to achieve this there is a need for data collation, robust and sustainable databases and a review of the categories of data.  Wider Worlds: Research into the Scottish Bronze Age has a considerable amount to offer other European pasts, with a rich archaeological data set that includes intact settlement deposits, burials and metalwork of every stage of development that has been the subject of a long history of study. Research should operate over different scales of analysis, tracing connections and developments from the local and regional, to the international context. In this way, Scottish Bronze Age studies can contribute to broader questions relating both to the Bronze Age and to human society in general.

Grand Canyon National Park is all about time and timescales. Time is the currency of our daily life, of history, and of biological evolution. Grand Canyon’s beauty has inspired explorers, artists, and poets. Behind it all, Grand Canyon’s geology and sense of timelessness are among its most prominent and important resources. Grand Canyon has an exceptionally complete and well-exposed rock record of Earth’s history. It is an ideal place to gain a sense of geologic (or deep) time. A visit to the South or North rims, a hike into the canyon of any length, or a trip through the 277-mile (446-km) length of Grand Canyon are awe-inspiring experiences for many reasons, and they often motivate us to look deeper to understand how our human timescales of hundreds and thousands of years overlap with Earth’s many timescales reaching back millions and billions of years. This report summarizes how geologists tell time at Grand Canyon, and the resultant “best” numeric ages for the canyon’s strata based on recent scientific research. By best, we mean the most accurate and precise ages available, given the dating techniques used, geologic constraints, the availability of datable material, and the fossil record of Grand Canyon rock units. This paper updates a previously-published compilation of best numeric ages (Mathis and Bowman 2005a; 2005b; 2007) to incorporate recent revisions in the canyon’s stratigraphic nomenclature and additional numeric age determinations published in the scientific literature. From bottom to top, Grand Canyon’s rocks can be ordered into three “sets” (or primary packages), each with an overarching story. The Vishnu Basement Rocks were once tens of miles deep as North America’s crust formed via collisions of volcanic island chains with the pre-existing continent between 1,840 and 1,375 million years ago. The Grand Canyon Supergroup contains evidence for early single-celled life and represents basins that record the assembly and breakup of an early supercontinent between 729 and 1,255 million years ago. The Layered Paleozoic Rocks encode stories, layer by layer, of dramatic geologic changes and the evolution of animal life during the Paleozoic Era (period of ancient life) between 270 and 530 million years ago. In addition to characterizing the ages and geology of the three sets of rocks, we provide numeric ages for all the groups and formations within each set. Nine tables list the best ages along with information on each unit’s tectonic or depositional environment, and specific information explaining why revisions were made to previously published numeric ages. Photographs, line drawings, and diagrams of the different rock formations are included, as well as an extensive glossary of geologic terms to help define important scientific concepts. The three sets of rocks are separated by rock contacts called unconformities formed during long periods of erosion. This report unravels the Great Unconformity, named by John Wesley Powell 150 years ago, and shows that it is made up of several distinct erosion surfaces. The Great Nonconformity is between the Vishnu Basement Rocks and the Grand Canyon Supergroup. The Great Angular Unconformity is between the Grand Canyon Supergroup and the Layered Paleozoic Rocks. Powell’s term, the Great Unconformity, is used for contacts where the Vishnu Basement Rocks are directly overlain by the Layered Paleozoic Rocks. The time missing at these and other unconformities within the sets is also summarized in this paper—a topic that can be as interesting as the time recorded. Our goal is to provide a single up-to-date reference that summarizes the main facets of when the rocks exposed in the canyon’s walls were formed and their geologic history. This authoritative and readable summary of the age of Grand Canyon rocks will hopefully be helpful to National Park Service staff including resource managers and park interpreters at many levels of geologic understandings...

A short but productive cruise aboard RV William Kennedy tested various new field equipment near Halifax (port of departure and return) but also in areas that could also benefit science understanding. The GSC-A Gavia Autonomous Underwater Vehicle equipped with bathymetric, sidescan and sub-bottom profiler was successfully deployed for the first time on Scotian Shelf science targets. It surveyed three small areas: two across known benthic sponge, Vazella (Russian Hat) within a DFO-directed trawling closure area on the SE flank of Sambro Bank, bordering Emerald Basin, and one across known pockmarks, eroded cone-shaped depression in soft mud due to fluid efflux. The sponge study sites (~ 150 170 m water depth) were known to lie in an area of till (subglacial diamict) exposure at the seabed. The AUV data identified gravel and cobble-rich seabed, registering individual clasts at 35 cm gridded resolution. A subtle variation in seabed texture is recognized in sidescan images, from cobble-rich on ridge crests and flanks, to limited mud-rich sediment in intervening troughs. Correlation between seabed topography and texture with the (previously collected) Vazella distribution along two transects is not straightforward. However there may be a preference for the sponge in the depressions, some of which have a thin but possibly ephemeral sediment cover. Both sponge study sites depict a hereto unknown morphology, carved in glacial deposits, consisting of a series of discontinuous ridges interpreted to be generated by erosion in multiple, continuous, meandering and cross-cutting channels. The morphology is identical to glacial Nye, or mp;lt;"N-mp;lt;"channels, cut by sub-glacial meltwater. However their scale (10 to 100 times mp;lt;"typicalmp;gt;" N-channels) and the unique eroded medium, (till rather than bedrock), presents a rare or unknown size and medium and suggests a continuum in sub-glacial meltwater channels between much larger tunnel valleys, common to the eastward, and the bedrock forms. A comparison is made with coastal Nova Scotia forms in bedrock. The Emerald Basin AUV site, targeting pockmarks was in ~260 to 270 m water depth and imaged eight large and one small pockmark. The main aim was to investigate possible recent or continuous fluid flux activity in light of ocean acidification or greenhouse gas contribution; most accounts to date suggested inactivity. While a lack of common attributes marking activity is confirmed, creep or rotational flank failure is recognized, as is a depletion of buried diffuse methane immediately below the seabed features. Discovery of a second, buried, pockmark horizon, with smaller but more numerous erosive cones and no spatial correlation to the buried diffuse gas or the seabed pockmarks, indicates a paleo-event of fluid or gas efflux; general timing and possible mechanisms are suggested. The basinal survey also registered numerous otter board trawl marks cutting the surficial mud from past fishing activity. The AUV data present a unique dataset for follow-up quantification of the disturbance. Recent realization that this may play a significant role in ocean acidification on a global scale can benefit from such disturbance quantification. The new pole-mounted sub-bottom profiler collected high quality data, enabling correlation of recently recognized till ridges exposed at the seabed as they become buried across the flank and base of the basin. These, along with the Nye channels, will help reconstruct glacial behavior and flow patterns which to date are only vaguely documented. Several cores provide the potential for stratigraphic dating of key horizons and will augment Holocene environmental history investigations by a Dalhousie University student. In summary, several unique features have been identified, providing sufficient field data for further compilation, analysis and follow-up publications.
