Texte intégralJules Verne’s novels appeared at a time when the progress of techniques and the development of reading modified the literary practice. As expressed in the contract with his publisher, Jules Hetzel, his works is intended for a large readership, with both the purposes of educating and entertaining. The intertextual method enables us to see how Verne’s novels reflect the XIXth century, by following the leading thread of the self comment of the text. The richness and the variety of the materials the author uses stress the considerable work he did to achieve his own creation. A work which consists in transforming and assimilating other people's texts (literary, documentary works, opinions, cliches, etc. ). It is of major interest for two reasons : the intertextual method is attentive to voices and moods which compose Verne’s texts : it brings us to appreciate the originality of this works which belongs to the XIXth century and continues to attract nowadays readers. In return, this works leads us to widen the notion of intertextuality to an interaction between verbal elements within the text and, from that point of view, to re-examine the representation of the text by itself

Texte intégralThe @hygiene -or the lack of hygyene- is a subject which concerns all the time. Our attitude towards it, is often the result of preconceived ideas. These ones are constituted by our culture. Jules Verne plays an important part in our scientific horizon. This author is at once an heir of the XVIIIe century, a witness of his time, a precursor of the XXe century's stakes. Verne preents the danger represented by the absence of the hygienic awareness. The fate of humanity is at stake. There are several type of hydienes in "Les Voyages extraordinaires" : mental physical, public, urban, ecological, climatic. The first part of this study presents the Jules Verne's works and the last discoveries of the vernian's researchers. The second part tries to locate the evolution of the Jules Verne's hygienic ideas in his works. The third part reminds the ideas places fort the perfect hygiene : the "supreme point", the island and the utopic city. Finally, the fourth and last part shows that the reflexion about the hygiene, results to the constitution of an vernian's aesthetic

Texte intégralJules Verne's manuscripts remain a field of investigation yet unexplored by genetic criticism, which combines the genetic methodological tool to poietic interpretation and follows two approaches. On the one hand, genetic criticism questions the encyclopaedic contract by which the literary creation of the Voyages Extraordinaires abides. PJ Hetzel's editorial strategy influences the writing of the programmatic prefaces which define the ultimate aim of the novelistic cycle. On the other hand, focusing on three novels written beetween 1867 and 1877, genetic criticism identifies which poietic solutions Jules Verne used to solve the limitations of the “scientific novel” genre : the choices in terms of narrative configuration on the scripting genesis level, and on the manuscriptic genesis level, the writing processes which define the macrostructures of each novel, under the supervision of PJ Hetzel

Texte intégralOver the last fifty years, the French university economics field has been characterized by the existence of critical economics (from the early 1960's to the early 2010's). The identification of the conditions of possibility of the institutionalization and then the decline of critical economics while the autonomization of this discipline is growing is the main issue being tackled through this piece of work. The enquiry enables to reveal the importance of the séminaire Aftalion, source of the formation of the disciplinary habitus for numerous critical economists trained during the 1960's and the early 1970's. Their project, both academic and political, has been carried on at the University of Picardie. The evolution of the discipline within this institution, through the study of its laboratories, its faculty and its teaching allows us to highlight the inner struggles of critical economists, which were at the same time epistemological, political and statutory. The disciplinary institutionalization of the two sides which competed in the 1970's, after the original contradiction faded away, has gradually given birth to a conflict which built the local disciplinary functioning. The institution had to resist the university transformation process before conforming with the standards and injunctions of the national and international universityeconomics. Some seem to take advantage of these transformations, as shown by the study of neuroeconomics. The history of economics teaching in the national university field over the whole period shows at the same time a double process of academization of the useful disciplines and the professionalization of the scholarly disciplines. Simultaneously, the schoolization of universities and the universitarization of schools can be seen. This double movement, shown here with the example of economics and management, as well as the research and teaching evaluation quantification might dictate a major trend in the social sciences field

Texte intégralKnowledge occupies a large portion in Verne's (1828-1905) works. In his books, the reader gets acquainted with new learning about the world around him : geography, ethnology, history, techniques, all these scholarly fields imprint themselves in the fictional work in order to create the "Knowledge's novels". As an actor of a time when culture's booming and science's progress had many followers the writer reflected on knowledge and the role it plays in narration within the Voyages extraordinaires. Never using the same tools, he offered several books where popularization was always present whether it was in long paragraphs or in short sentences, during dialogs or descriptions. Those scientific or cultural data take part at carefully chosen places. Even the characters are under the influence of this main purpose. Jules Verne, who was not interested in theory, thought in his cycle about the links between knowledge and science, between knowledge and fiction, between knowledge and society. This thesis deals with all this epistemological meditation, which is inherent to the nineteenth century, and shows precisely what was the writer's romantic look on his own times

Texte intégralJules Verne (1828-1905), the French writer, and Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937), the American writer, have been considered, in their respective countries, as creators of a new literary genre - science fiction. The works of both the authors are linked to the problematic of inserting modernity, and the knowledge which comes with it, in fiction. The aim of this research is to analyze what is common to both writers, how their work is innovative and whether their work becomes - or not - the prolongation of the literary movements which triumphed in their century. The rejection of a fantastic literary genre is inscribed within the movement which determines their work and forms an aspect which will be examined in depth. By using three points of comparison (namely proxemics, characteristics of the supernatural, and the narrator's role in the text), the formal and historical perspective of this research tries to study Lovecraft and Verne in their own century so as to bring out their uniqueness within the literary context of the period

Increasing the length of wind towers and rotor diameter over the years have also made wind turbines a flexible structure subject to significant levels of vibration to be evaluated. Most accidents with wind turbines are causeds by failures in blades. The cause of these failures comes from several factors, such as the action of wind gusts, lightning, fatigue, among others. About 30 failures of wind turbines are occurring annually in commercially operated wind farms around the world. One of the demands and challenges of the wind sector has as a priority line to guarantee the structural integrity of wind turbines while subject to complex static and dynamic loads. The collapse of wind turbines due to excessive load or fatigue damage can lead to the destruction of the entire turbine. According to IEC 61400/23: 2001, the blade must be subjected to tests with static loading of standard design load distribution, producing a margin between this load and the blade rupture strength at its weakest position. In this way, this work intends to evaluate the resistance of a Verne 555 turbine blade set from a static point of view, through experimental procedures and numerical-computational simulations using the Finite Element Method using the ANSYS software. The aim of this study was to calibrate the numerical model of the study object of this work previously elaborated by Araújo et al. (2016) by means of static experimental tests carried out in accordance with IEC 61400/23: 2001, traction tests for the modulus of elasticity and traction strength of the material in accordance with ASTM D3039: 2014 as well as thermal tests for the characterization of the type of internal material used in the manufacture of the blade by thermogravimetric analysis. The loads imposed on the static tests and the numerical model were obtained through aerodynamic modeling by QBlade software blade theory. The behavior of the blade on the deformation indicated the need for a numerical analysis that contemplated the geometric non-linearity. This technical evolution allowed a better understanding of the reality that governs the problem. The blades did not present a standard behavior regarding the rupture, except in the formation of the fissures that was always transversal to the section. In two static tests the brazier, buckling and delamination effects were identified. The traction test on samples taken from the spade gave us important mechanical parameters for the calibration of the numerical model as well as the identification of the internal materials by means of the thermogravimetry method, since no information about the spade was provided by the manufacturer.

Texte intégralThe Voyages Extraordinaires by Jules Verne has been studied from the angle of characters. After a categorical classification and an inventory of the different types proposed, the characteristics of each type can be defined altogether with elements derived from individual portraits with re-inforce them. The differents categories and types are unequal and strengthened by the notion of races, some of them being described as inferior. No field can escape from the theories or science and matter or life for which man is an object of study; the form taken by these theories allows for a definition of what can be called Verne's science. Its deals with technology in as much as the scientific discourse must produce technical realizations, solutions to actual problems and as it excludes any suggestion of researching spirit. The danger would be in not caring for this prescription. On the other hand, the scientific discourse is one of revelation or of revealing of knowledge which are pre-existing to the person who states them. Last, the right of some characters to hold a scientific discourse is the sign of the power they wield. All of these components elaborate an ideological apparatus. It is knowledge, its nature and the relationship everyone can have with it, which constitute the connections in the hierarchical character system. On top, the sphere of the hero in which characters coming from valorizing categories are grouped; they express the discourse of science, have an exceptional individual scheme and hold power. Then, second rate characters, in possession of a practical knowledge, and who can be a reference to the world of common sense. Last the sphere of absolute ignorance and savagery. These worlds are not organized as a continuity through which one might progress; on the contrary, you can have access to the upper sphere only exceptionally and thanks to initiatory rites. This system is an unchanging structure which testifies for the author's conservative vision of the world

Texte intégralThis research deals with extraordinary travels (63 novels) which have been studied as tokens of social structures and mentalities. Verne has a mature and male conception of the world that is misogyn and misogam, which does not exclude strong female personnalities and a mate companionship in marriage. The natural and nuclear family is compensated by chosen families. Girls are educated by institutionnal structures teaching little scientific subjects, latin remaining a reference. Religion is oecumenic, without dogma and one only reference to god as a father. Social and religious rituals are neglected. Industrial revolution is seen as magical and without factories which betrays an obsession with huge achievements, transports and an absence of petrol or cars. Unaware of the people, conscious of the crowd, unconcerned by social mobility, verne's world is filled with wealthy, official and hiden people with professional titles. Verne's antisemitism which burst out in 1877, is caracterized by its economic and racial nature. Adventure affects social relationships, but it does not change them. Hedonism never masters the desired, feared and sometimes sublimated destination. There is a reporter between the traveller and the tourist, he is the go-between from the event to a worldwide public opinion. The travel, seen as fleeing, also shows the european and north-american domination over a fascinating and irritating anglo-saxon ever-present world. Unified and regionless, france slowly participates in the growth of nationalisms. A known and mapped world has always been frightful. Colonisation expresses inevitable progress over wild and cannibal peoples in spite of some sympathy for the revolted ones and a positive image of mixed-blooded people

This study aims to verify in what way writing a Julio Verne inspired narrative stimulates the students to apply knowledge of the scientific area of Physics. To do so a learning strategy in the perspective of problem solving by research and within the science technology and society framework was implemented. The activity, involving language and science skills, particularly physics, chemistry and portuguese, was centered on an interplanetary expedition in order to attest the student’s ability to engage previous knowledge and explain concepts using their literacy expertise. The project was planned using the 5E’s strategy, and its influence on the students’ engagement and learning was observed. To achieve these proposes a qualitative methodology with interpretative character was used, surveying the researcher practice as strategy. Twenty six 10th degree students of an Aveiro city school participated in the study. The data was collected by naturalistic observation, inquiry and other written documents. The results reveal that the students enjoyed this type of strategies, liked the working in groups and felt more motivated for the disciplines. On the other hand, analysis of the produced text allowed the researcher to identify learning deficits, namely in the knowledge mobilization and integration demonstrating that scientific language skills need to be improved on science students by their teachers.
