Texte intégralConsumer liminality is a vital concept in marketing research, usually defined as a transitional state of betwixt and between social positions. It enlightens life transitions, extraordinary experiences, and consumption rituals. This dissertation assesses the conceptualization of consumer liminality and advances its theorization in liquid modernity by exploring contemporary consumer lifestyles which embrace contingency, uncertainty, and ambiguity. The first essay conceptually reexamines the treatment of liminality in consumer research. I identify two distinct forms, transformational liminality and liminoidity, thus challenging the unidimensionality assumption. Countering its celebratory treatment, I highlight the dangers of liminality when it is part of a meaningless transition. This essay contributes to the literature by resolving definitional ambiguities, outlining the concept’s scope, and delineating research directions. The second essay explores the flexible consumer lifestyle, defined as purposefully embracing instability, change, and adaptability in every aspect of life through professional precariousness. Using a combination of long interviews, projective techniques, and participant observation, I question how the frequent life transitions which characterize the flexible lifestyle and could be conceptualized as an experience of permanent liminality, are handled by consumers. Departing from prior literature, this essay contributes to consumer research on liminality by illustrating that permanent liminality is unsustainable for individuals, who need a release from the overwhelming pressures of its pursuit. Further, I identify flexibility capital as what enables consumers to perform successfully this lifestyle and thus, create an escape from the social structure which otherwise compels them to dominated precarious positions. The third essay studies the liminal consumer journeys of consumers who experience repeated cross-cultural transitions. I combine autodriving and long interviews to explore open-ended mobility, a type of international mobility characterized by a high uncertainty regarding the duration of the stay abroad and the next destination. This essay contributes by emphasizing liminal dangers. I identify that liminal consumer journeys put consumers at risk of rootlessness and self-loss and must be compensated by solidifying consumption, which anchors consumers’ identity narratives in crystallized consumption experiences, material objects, and symbolic brands
Gordon, Bretia Arrington. « From the Front Line to the Living Room| The Transition of Female Veterans Back Into Civilian Life ». Thesis, Nova Southeastern University, 2018. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10838770.
Texte intégralFrom the Front Line to the Living Room: The Transition of Female Veterans Back Into Civilian Life. Bretia Arrington Gordon, 2018: Applied Dissertation, Nova Southeastern University, Abraham S. Fischler College of Education. Keywords: veterans, military personnel, military service, armed forces The problem addressed in this study was female veterans faced unique challenges during military service and even more difficult experiences when transitioning into civilian life. Women long served in the military and reported similar as well as different experiences than men, especially in relation to Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). For example, female veterans reported a higher percentage of sexual harassment and gender discrimination than did male veterans. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health issues were also reported differently for female veterans than males. Women were found to be more likely to be diagnosed with a mental illness after returning from deployment. This research was conducted using semi-structured interviews. The questions were broad in scope due to the sensitive nature of the problems faced by the participants. Questions focused upon recurring themes, such as PTSD, military sexual trauma, substance abuse, and impact on domestic relationships. The participants? experiences were analyzed for patterns and trends, and the information was used to encourage future research efforts in the improvement of services for female veterans. The purpose of this research was to collect information from OEF-OIF female veterans who experienced firsthand the challenges of being active duty and a civilian. The study also explored different aspects of issues not immediately identified or researched in depth in relation to this population. This research would help to inform change within the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) system and other organizations supporting OEF-OIF female veterans and families. Findings revealed participants shared similar experiences from their time in the military and during their deployment to serve in OEF and OIF. The accounts of their experiences presented themes of (a) PTSD and other mental health issues; (b) military sexual trauma; (c) discrimination based on gender, race, and rank; (d) different impacts of deployment; and (e) experiences with the VA health-care system. Findings provided a new understanding of the literature indicating the complex realm of what it is like for female veterans to (a) serve in combat, (b) transition back into their lives after deployment, (c) navigate the VA system, and (d) maintain their dignity and integrity while being discriminated against, and accepting and learning to live with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Findings supported past literature, suggesting female veterans were more likely to need long-term services to assist them as they returned from combat and transition back into civilian life. They needed specific female-centered assistance from the VA to treat them for issues related to physical and mental health, counseling and quality medical services, and housing and employment assistance to deter potential homelessness. Findings also supported the call for the Department of Defense, U.S. Military, and the VA system to acknowledge the issues of discrimination based on rank, race, and gender and to hold those accountable who used it as a means to control and limit the potential of female members of the military.

Texte intégralThe Afghan conflict changed significantly after the Soviet withdrawal and especially after the collapse of the communist regime in April 1992. External support, which at some point had been running to the tune of $3 billion a year to all sides, rapidly faded and the military commanders increasingly faced the problem of how to fund their armies in the face of a declining propensity of the civilian population to contribute to the war effort. The hold of the parties based in Pakistan and Iran over the field commanders rapidly weakened, even if some of the political leaders had been forward looking enough to accumulate financial resources through the hoarding of military supplies, which were then sold on the black market. The partial financial autonomy of some political leaders of the jihadi movement was not enough to stem the tide towards weaker and weaker links between parties and commanders, not least because the parties were reluctant to spend whatever resources they had accumulated, lest they lose their leverage in the future.

Yong, You Sing 1958. « Transition metal clusters in zeolites ». 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/2292/2017.
Texte intégralThe adsorption and decomposition of Mo(CO)6 in zeolites X, Y, KL, Na-mordenite and Na-ZSM5 had been followed gravimetrically and spectroscopically. Mo(CO)6 was readily adsorbed into the pore structures of faujasites and zeolite KL but not into Na-mordenite and Na-ZSM5. Infrared studies showed that the adsorption produced a common adsorbed Mo(CO)6 species whose Oh symmetry was lowered. Subsequent activation in-vacuo at 100°C caused loss of approximately two carbonyl ligands per molybdenum which could be reversed by addition of carbon monoxide. Heating at or above 200°C caused complete and permanent decarbonylation. Zerovalent molybdenum clusters were produced within the pore structures of alkali metal-exchanged zeolites but for HY and LaY, oxidised molybdenum ions were also produced. Further uptake of Mo(CO)6 occurred on subsequent exposure of faujasite samples containing molybdenum to the vapour at room temperature. By repeated adsorption and decomposition of Mo(CO)6, zeolite sample containing up to 157 molybdenum per unit cell had been prepared. The carbon monoxide hydrogenation activity and selectivity of molybdenum-zeolite catalysts varied with zeolite structure and exchanged cation. Molybdenum-alkali metal-exchange zeolite catalysts were more selective to alkenes and liquefied petroleum gas range hydrocarbons (C2-C4) than molybdenum-HY and molybdenum-LaY catalysts. Using a combination of gas chromatography and infrared spectroscopy, a mechanism was postulated for the formation of hydrocarbons.

This study aims to investigate the the conversion process of the family roles and the subjective experience from the adult daughter who was the main caregiver of dementia patients at her primary home. And this study also aims to investigate her primary family interaction context after there were dementia patients at her primary home. There was one formal study object in the study, and this study mainly used narrative study to carry out the study process. The finding of the study was showed by a story, and then text analysis and interpretation were used, finally discussions and conclusions were recommend. The result of the study is stated as follows: 1. Before dementia patients suffering from dementia: the family boundaries entangled, the couple subsystem clashed, alienated, and lost the function, the classes of the power were showed in the sibling subsystem, the model of the family operation was the transition from the feminist social constructionist approach to the couple approach. 2. After dementia patients suffering from dementia: along with the progress of Alzheimer disease evolution and below the effect of the male superiority in Chinese culture, the classes of the power were showed in thesibling subsystem, and adult daughter caregiver’s family role was showed the stages of the conversion, divided into five stages, in order of the conflict period, the task period, conversion period, the friction period, and death decision-making period. In the "friction period", when the adult daughter caregiver’s role lost the function and the family care system unbalanced, the sibling subsystem was taken into the family care system to maintain the balance, and to unloading the duty of the adult daughter who cared her dementia patients alone. When the daughter caregiver’s role function exhausted and she took care of her physical and mental, her role changed from the main caregiver to the auxiliary caregiver, and also because of the ossification belief about the roles, her role changed from the main caregiver to the victim. The influential factors of the "death decision-making period" were the boundaries blurred between the family and the medical treatment. 3. After the death of patients with dementia: the death of dementia patients, the class power of the sibling subsystem, the fuzzy role expectation of the sibling subsystem. 4. In the course of long-term care, religion, and material and emotional support from the hand and foot relations subsystem, the company of her boyfriend and cat, counseling and spiritual growth courses, day care and other factors to let the daughter caregiver not exhaust because of the caregiver’s heavy loading, role strain and role conflict. Finally, the researcher focus on this study’s findings and propose some viewpoints and suggestions for direction of consultation and counseling and the prospective studies.

The purpose of this study aims to explore the female career transition in emerging adulthood(referred to as “EA”), discusses the serendipitous events(referred to as “SE”) and internal resources which help the participant to take advantage of SE. Adopting narrative research, 3 participants received interviews and their stories were analyzed through “Holistic- Content” and “Categorical-Content” approaches. The results are as follows: 1. The process of female career transition in EA (1) Family have an important influence. (2) Career transition in EA ends at returning to one’s interests or values. 2. SE in EA and their influence. (1) The participants either take the initiative to act or passively respond to the SE. (2) Though SE, the participants have access to the resources provided by their acquaintances, and compensate for the shortage of information during EA. (3) One may turn the negative SE to the positive one through one’s effort. (4) SE has the driving force for change. The reasons the participants responded to SE are either the SE are related to their background, are in line with their values, interests, or their need at the time. 3. The internal resources of the participants and how these help taking advantage of SE. (1) Be open-minded and active to take advantages of the opportunities, and comfort oneself. (2) The internal resources of the participants fit in Chinese culture which enable the participants to gain trust to bring about opportunities. (3) The participants happened to have the internal resources needed by the SE. Finally, the suggestions are proposed to helpers, parents, and future researchers.

This research aims at getting straight the career course and retirement motivation of excellent tennis players in our nation before retirement and their interdisciplinary career transformation after retirement. This research mainly employs Semi-structure Thorough Interview of Qualitative Research to collect materials. There are six first-division players who were born between 1960 and 1990 and entered junior colleges through 「Higher Education and Tutorship Method for Excellent Athletic Students in Schools over Medium Level」are chosen to be the research objects. The results of the research are as follows: 1. The career of the players Excellent tennis players can not take their study work into consideration in their career, so they generally enter a higher education through 「screening and review」 and 「experiment」. The school provides lessons tutorship, flexible school time, nourishment, scholarship and tuition waiver. Subject ability decides their choice in school and department when they enter universities. They mainly chose tennis because their families guide them to this vocation or were chosen in school’s selection. The enlightenment age of tennis players is between 6 years to 11 years, and their training time is between 5 to 8 hours. In the training process, they may come across lassitude because of overtraining and lack of tutorship in facing pressure. Though extra costs may be derived in the training process, excellent tennis players usually can win over enterprise sponsor. 2. The retirement of the players They may choose to retire because of injury, choke point in achieving a better performance, career burnout and recognition of career system. They generally retire when they are going to enter universities, released from military service, graduate from universities and in their 26. Most excellent players have no concept on pre-retirement planning, but part of them would make preparation for retirement in choosing school and department when entering university. 3. Career transformation The players’ mood may experience a process of being at a loss, considering letting nature take its course, feeling full of hope, excited, free and no pressure. They are often high in adaptability after retiring, behave well in resisting pressure and usually keep hopeful and positive attitude toward life. The problems they may encounter in career transformation include adapting a new interpersonal relationship, learning knowledge of different domain, adjusting life pace, distinguishing the order of priority, and managing their time. Most of them bear a teaching position or become tennis coach after retiring. The factors that contribute to their successful transformation include their indomitable traits, positive attitude, ability to bear frustration, crushing resistance, contacts and opportunities accumulated in tennis career, their totally different life experience attract attention and curiosity and the international concept and foreign language ability cultivated in their career. Here are some suggestions for the players in their career transformation: improving foreign language ability, cultivating international view, making the best use of available resources, commanding advantages, accomplishing pre-retirement planning, humbly learning, fostering a second specialty and creating self-worth. Key words: tennis, career, transformation process

As for the current situation of the recruitment of our national army, the choice of volunteers to enter the military or enter the military school as a reader, most of them left home before entering the military, although in the future military career, due to the different ambitions and development of each person, resulting in service The age of the students is also different, but because the people and things that the military people contact on a regular basis are related to the military, they are naturally more familiar with the military culture, and are constrained by maintaining the strength of the military. Each class has a certain number of years of service to effectively promote Metabolism, after the professional soldiers have served in the military for a long time, they must face the choice of retiring or choosing to leave the military. In this study, the semi-structured interview method was adopted. For the four respondents who had served for 20 years and had no lifelong embarrassment for 4 years, they discussed their career transition factors. Finally, based on the interview data analysis results, The main research conclusions are as follows: The factors affecting the decommissioning and re-employment of military personnel below the school level are mainly family factors, followed by the military system and the chief executives, followed by economic considerations; the workplace transition path and consideration factors are mainly based on the use of contacts to implement workplace transformation, followed by Efforts to start a business or tutoring, rarely use institutions that assist in workplace transformation; re-employment type analysis after retiring, after retiring, engaged in industries that do not need technology, and less engaged in industries that require specialized expertise to work; The factors are mainly personal factors, followed by retired planning, followed by military training; the obstacles are most important to the age factor, followed by the market factors; the re-employment resource utilization and workplace conversion recommendations, after statistical analysis, Re-employment is used to assist the workplace changer, and the workplace transition proposal is based on careful planning as the primary recommendation, followed by strengthening the personal professional background. This study also found that the changes in the influencing factors of decommissioning, the retired military personnel with lifelong shackles, the part of the factors affecting the military system and management mode, less intoxicated, and those who did not receive lifelong shackles, the military environment and system are more Critical. In the part of the career transition path, it was found that respondents with lifetime responsibilities were all using contacts, and those who had retired less than 20 years relied on their own efforts to start a business or tutoring. Re-employment Type Analysis Respondents who have not been in charge for 20 years are engaged in industries that require certain skills to start, and the frequency of conversion is less.
