I hereby present the results of my research on the history of the Italian community in Victoria, as well as the influence of Australian immigration and language policies on Italian teaching in Victorian schools, highlighting how the perception of Italian language evolved in Australian public opinion throughout history. Texte intégralEl principal objetivo de esta investigación es de analizar las interacciones culturales en la Sicilia arcáica, una época en que la isla se caracteriza por los encuentros culturales, determinados por la presencia de diferentes grupos de colonos: lo Fenícios y los Griegos. El análisis pretende alcanzar el estudio de diferentes tipos de evidencias materiales, como ejemplares y fragmentos de cerámica de engobe rojo, materiales como los “orientalia” y las amphoras de tipo fenício-púnico, todos hallados en algunos de los principales asentamientos griegos de la isla. Sin embargo, debido a la dificultad de enmarcar estos materiales en una perspectiva histórico-arqueológica, el uso de la aproximación contextual en este análisis representa un instrumento valioso para la comprensión de las situaciones socio-culturales del mundo colonial, gracias a la combinación de datos, que permite vehicular todas las informaciones que estos proporcionan a través de diferentes perspectivas de análisis.
L’obiettivo principale di questa ricerca è quello di analizzare le interazioni culturali nella Sicilia arcaica, in un’epoca particolarmente significativa per gli incontri coloniali, caratterizzati prevalentemente dalla presenza di due gruppi coloniali: i Fenici e i Greci. Quest’analisi verrà condotta attraverso lo studio di differenti tipi di evidenza materiale, da un lato quella dei materiali fenici e di tipo fenicio, prevalentemente in stato frammentario e in molti casi da includersi all’interno della red-slip, da un altro, quella di attestazioni di natura diversa, come gli “orientalia” o le anfore di tipo fenicio-puniche, materiali che provengono esclusivamente da contesti sicelioti. Data la natura elusiva di questi dati, il ricorso all’analisi contestuale costituisce un utile strumento metodologico in grado di suggerire indicazioni su determinate situazioni coloniali e di fornire nuove interpretazioni mediante la combinazione dei dati e delle loro associazioni, nonché dal combinare differenti livelli di ricerca.

Texte intégralThis dissertation is structured around the idea of tradition and the conceptualization of gender in the village music of the Banyoro and Batooro of western Uganda. The thesis is composed of three main parts. In the first one, the historical transformations in gender relations since the pre-colonial period up to the present are presented and village music is introduced through comparison with royal and religion music. The second section is devoted to vocal and dance repertoires, on the basis of the documentation realized with elders: stylistic characteristics of these musics are considered and an analysis is carried out, aiming to show the ideas about gender in these repertoires. The last part of this work considers the transformations occurred in Ugandan music landscape during the last century, depending on several factors: various extern musics influences, the teaching of traditional music in schools, and the institution of school festival and cultural groups. On the whole, we observe a general re-functionalization of traditional music and gender ideas, which are referring to the past but hold value in particular for the recovery of local culture in the present, with special reference to contemporary Uganda multicultural society and to Government politics for women emancipation.

Texte intégralIn Italy, and specifically in Molise, they keep on persisting traditional festive events that still represent an intangible cultural heritage to a large extent to study in interdisciplinary key. The search is proposed to reconstruct the historical run that has brought to consolidate the procession of the Mysteries of Campobasso as we know it today, to be able to understand better th manifold stratifications of it and subsequently to propose a best exploitation of it in a cultural and tourist view. The event can be seen as a calendrical feast inserted in the rites in late spring syncretized in the Corpus Domini. Particularly to Campobasso, since the XV century, there are proofs of ritual specific legacies to the sacred representations, staged in the urban context during the eucharistical procession. The centrality of the feast has induced us to face in rigorous way the phenomenon setting it in the life of the urban nucleus. Following an multidisciplinar approach we have tried to overcome the traditional historiographical vision of the phenomenon in order to return his native complexity to the rituality and to propose therefore a model interpretative able not only to track back its bonds with the social and productive substratum of the city but also the transformations occurred during the centuries. Starting from the recognition of the existing bibliography we went through a capillary search of file the origins of the procession. Close to the sources documents of great importance they have been the iconografical sources (photos and documentaries), that has allowed to follow the slow process of maintenance and diversification of the current Mysteries. The places in which the research has been taken place have been different and varied, to possibly have a complete picture especially some sources for the reconstruction of the feast and these ones were, in particular, the Historical Archive of the diocese of Campobasso-Bojano, the ones of the cathedral, that of the parishes of St. Leonardo and Sant'Antonio abbot of Campobasso. A long phase of the search was carried out at the State Archive in Campobasso and Naples. I have approached in more resumptions to the Archive ofthe abbey of Montecassino to which Gasdia, Campobasso's historic, had given his conspicuous fund. A very Important material resulted by counting the present local newspapers in the Library G.Albino of Campobasso and in that of the local State Archive. We find, from the second half of 1800, news on the festive dynamics, that contributed to the clarification of the desacralization of the procession and the progressive indifference - excluding the fascist period - of the city towards the feast, up to the resumption in the postwar period and to the more and more raising in interest of our days. The Mysteries are the product of a rituality in constant change, suited for the logics of the time, that it respects, nevertheless, a traditional nucleus of identity that, from the origins until today is maintained as it is, both from the point of view of the processional management, and in the iconographic repetition of the subjects. The result is a complete picture of the procession, that could allow a great exploitation of this event.

Texte intégralQuesto lavoro ha origine da una ricerca condotta presso due comunità italiane femminili che si definiscono monastiche: una appartiene alla Fraternità Monastica di Gerusalemme (FMG), una cosiddetta “comunità di nuovo tipo”, l’altra è un Monastero Camaldolese di matrice tradizionale. L’ipotesi che sta alla base di questo studio, che si è avvalso di una metodologia di tipo qualitativo (un periodo di osservazione etnografica di quattro mesi per ognuna delle due comunità e ventitré interviste in profondità), ha preso forma nel corso dell’esperienza sul campo e si fonda sulla seguente constatazione: tanto nella FMG, quanto nella comunità benedettina, sono in atto dei processi di reinterpretazione della tradizione che si manifestano attraverso diverse modalità di intendere l’“identità monastica” e il ruolo dei/-le monaci/-che nel mondo e nella società. L’analisi del materiale empirico ha permesso di identificare come tali processi di invenzione della tradizione assumano, nelle due comunità, delle connotazioni specifiche e di segno opposto, che si possono tradurre, nel caso della FMG, in: “occorre conservare per essere legittimati”, in quello della comunità camaldolese, invece, nei termini di: “occorre cambiare per conservare l’eredità”.

Texte intégralThis thesis is about the "End of the World" begun with the colonization of Burkina Faso by white-western civilization. The impact of colonization was not only political and economical, instead it strongly influenced the sphere of social relations and affected the balance with the other ethnic groups. This produced a new elaboration of the whole Turka civilization. The thesis is divided in three chapters: the first chapter contains the transcription of the interviews, the main documental base of the research; the second chapter analyzes the crisis of the traditional culture; the third chapter focuses on the present world of the village, describing the encounter and confrontation between traditional culture and modernity. We thought it was indispensable to write a historical introduction in order to give a solid background to the ethnograpic approach and link it to geographical, political and economic problems already existing in the area. A short methodologic foreword intends to give account to the multidisciplinarity of the PhD program.
