Résumé :
We aimed to systematize and assess scientific information on tetracycline (TET) resistance genes in animals, products, and by-products in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. PRISMA guidelines were followed. Only original articles published in peer-reviewed journals were considered. Sixty articles published between 2003 and 2023 met the inclusion criteria. The geographical areas of study were Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Costa Rica, and, to a lesser extent, Colombia, Bolivia, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay. The studies were related to livestock, wild animals, and pets. The most common isolated bacteria were Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. The tet genes found in higher frequency in the samples or isolates evaluated were tetA, tetB, tetM, tetL, tetK, tetC, tetO, tetD, tetG, tetW, tetS, tetQ, tetE, tetH, tetJ, tetZ, and tetY. Studies evaluating the presence of tet genes in animals in LAC are limited despite TET being antibiotics widely used in animals. It is necessary to establish cross border public policies that allow the constant training of medical and related personnel regarding the responsible use of antibiotics in animals and the effective monitoring of the phenomenon in the region.

Résumé :
Egyetemi diplomamunkám témájaként a Google cég piaci stratégiai elemzését választottam.
Publishing scientific articles online in journals is a must for researchers or academics. In choosing the journal of purpose, the researcher must look at important information on the journal's web, such as indexing, scope, fee, quarter and other information. This information is generally not collected in one page, but spread over several pages in a web journal. This will be complicated when researchers have to look at information in several journals, moreover, the information in these journals may change at any time. In this research, web harvesting design is conducted to retrieve information on web journals. With web harvesting, information that is spread across several pages can be collected into one, and researchers do not need to worry if the information has changed, because the information collected is the last or updated information. Harvesting technique is done by taking the page URL of the page, starting the source code from where the information is retrieved and end source code until the information stops being retrieved. Harvesting technique was successfully developed based on the web bootstrap framework. The test data is taken from several scientific journal webs. The information collected includes name, description, accreditation, indexing, scope, publication rate, publication charge, template and quarter. Based on tests carried out using black box testing, it is known that all the features made are as expected.

Résumé :
Activities with service journal managers as research targets aim to increase managers' knowledge about management and journal articles' substance quality. Manager's knowledge which is the focus of activities, refers to the accreditation assessment of national journals. The main target of community service activities is the manager of the university service journal in Semarang. The method of mentoring activities is carried out online, divided into two forms: for management and article substance. Evaluation of activities was carried out through analysis of the value of pre-test and post-test questions on journal management and article substance and questionnaire analysis of participants' feedback. The average pre-test score is 65, and the post-test is 84, indicating an increase in knowledge on the target activities. From the mentoring in publishing service journals that have been carried out, the journal manager (the target of the activity) has had broader knowledge about the management and substance of the article. The accreditation simulation in the mentoring process has provided an authentic experience for managers to be more prepared to propose accreditation and reaccreditation of service journals.

Résumé :
The aim of the presented research was to evaluate wear effects of bearing elements in case of modification based on laser alloying with boron of journal surface layer. The research was performed on ZPG-IV tribology tester with journal-bearing friction pair. During the test load was applied progressively. SEM microscopes and non-contact 3D optical profilografometr was used to assess the test results. Study of the character of the wear process allowed to state, that after each increase of load during the test, rapid change of the value of oil temperature and the value of resistance in journal-pan contact was appeared. Then, the stabilization period was followed by. Some differences in the way of those processes between tested variants were noticed. Firstly, during the stabilization period larger thickness of the oil film at the journal-pan interface was notice in case of journal after laser treatment than in case of untreated journal. Secondly, it could be expected that oil temperature will be lower in case of longer time of tribological test for treated journal (than for untreated journal). It should favor better wear resistance of this kinematic node. Macro and microscopic observations of both types of surface after wear test allow to state, that journals after laser treatment were characterized by less wear effects, as cavities in the surface layer in comparison to untreated journals. More intensive wear of journals without treatment was confirmed by stereometric research and measurements of surface roughness parameters. This research allow to state positive laser treatment influence on the wear resistance of the journal. Although, there was no larger loss of the surface layer in case of pans after cooperation with hard journal after laser treatment (describe by the decrease of pans’ thickness) then loss of the surface layer in case of pans after cooperation with softer untreated journal (nearly 5-times softer than the surface layer of treated journal), the microscopic observations and measurement of the parameters of stereometric structure of their surface showed more intensive wear of pan after cooperation with treated journal.

Résumé :
Historically, ANOVA has been the most prevalent statistical method used in educational and psychological research and today ANOVA continues to be widely used. A comprehensive review published in 1998 examined several APA journals and discovered persistent concerns in ANOVA reporting practices. The present authors examined all articles published in 2012 in three APA journals (Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Counseling Psychology, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology) to review ANOVA reporting practices including p values and effect sizes. Results indicated that ANOVA continues to be prevalent in the reviewed journals as a test of the primary research question, as well as to test conditional assumptions prior to the primary analysis. Still, ANOVA reporting practices are essentially unchanged from what was previously reported. However, effect size reporting has improved.

Résumé :
Purpose This study introduces a new approach, called the social structure approach, for ranking academic journals by focusing on hospitality and tourism journals; and a hybrid metric, including the combination of the journal impact factor via citations and a social network metric, called the journal knowledge domain index (JKDI). Design/methodology/approach Twenty-five hospitality and tourism journals were selected to test this approach. Collaboration-based metrics, productivity-based metrics, and network-based metrics are considered components of the social structure approach. Additionally, a hybrid metric, including the combination of the journal impact factor via citations and a social network metric, JKDI, is developed. Findings The study’s findings show that top or leading journals have a weaker position in some social structure approach metrics compared to other (or follower) journals. However, according to the JKDI, leading journals have remained constant with the other ranking studies. Practical implications The ranking of academic journals is vital for the stakeholders of academia. Consequently, the findings of this study may help stakeholders to design an optimal ranking system and formulate and implement effective research strategies for knowledge creation and dissemination. Originality/value As one of the first in the journal-ranking literature, this study has significant implications, as it introduces a new ranking approach.

Résumé :
IntroductionThere is a notable under-representation of women in leadership positions in ophthalmology despite the increasing number of women as ophthalmologists. Gender inequality in editorial boards of ophthalmology journals has not been investigated on a global scale. This study will aim to evaluate the representation of women as editorial board members in ophthalmology journals across different regions, journal subspecialties and impact factors. Methods and analysisThis will be a cross-sectional study describing the gender composition of editorial boards in ophthalmology journals globally. Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory and SCImago Journal & Country Rank will be used to comprehensively identify journals indexed with the keyword, ‘ophthalmology’. All journals with active websites and lists of editorial boards will be included. Journals will be categorised according to the World Bank’s 2021 classification of countries by income and region, and classified into ophthalmology subspecialties based on publication scope. Impact factors will be obtained from Journal Citation Reports. The gender and academic degrees of each editorial board member will be determined based on journal profiles, institutional websites or name query feature on an online interface. The research impact of each editorial board member will be ascertained from the author records on Web of Science. The gender proportion will be presented for all journals combined, and then for journals grouped by regions, subspecialties and impact factors. Editorial board member characteristics including academic degrees and research productivity measures will be compared between men and women. These comparisons will be made using the χ2 test for categorical variables and the independent samples t-test for continuous variables.Ethics and disseminationThis study did not require research ethics approval given the use of publicly available data and lack of human subjects. The results will be presented at scientific meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Résumé :
Selection of suitable Journal for publication of research findings in a peer-reviewed Journal is very critical and challenging for researchers. Selection of Journal for publication involves many factors, where the main factor is Journal metrics. In light of the proliferation of journals, some journals have come under increased scrutiny recently with terms such as questionable, illegitimate, dishonest, used to describe these journals. Generally, the young researchers or the first-time authors, would like to publish their findings in a less reputed Journal with very less rejection rate, as they want to publish their articles quickly. Wrong choice of journal for publishing spells outright rejection. Even if the article is very encouraging with sound and rigorous scholarly work, it will not stand the test. Another option for authors is to consult with librarians affiliated with organization or local public library. Librarians are well-suited to provide guidance in helping authors with selecting quality journals to consider for publication. Transparency and objectives are essential elements for scientific research and peer review process. Bibliographic software such as EndNote or RefWorks assist the authors to format reference section and to perform corrections suggested by reviewers. Hence, this review was delineated to provide an insight for the researchers to prefer a Journal based on the impact factor, H-index, SNIP, SJR and timeline of publication.

Résumé :
A tier test is used in science teaching and learning to assess students’ understanding of specific scientific domains. Despite its popularity, limited research has investigated the development of this test. This study aimed to explore the development of tier tests in science education, considering aspects such as representation in selected science education journals, regions, contributors, levels of education, most-cited articles, and specific scientific domains. A systematic literature review was conducted, manually examining 35 articles from selected journals: the International Journal of Science Education (IJSE), the Journal of Research in Science Teaching (JRST), Science Education (SE), the International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education (IJMA), and Research in Science Education (RISE). The findings indicate that some journals published research on tier tests, while others did not. Notably, the dominant scientific domains were biology, chemistry, and physics, which is consistent with findings from other studies focusing on scientific reasoning tests. Finally, the implications of these findings will be discussed.

Résumé :
Objective: To assess and compare the quality of economic studies in selected pharmacy, medical, and health economics journals. Data Sources: DICP The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, New England Journal of Medicine, Medical Care, Journal of the American Medical Association, PharmacoEconomics, International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, and Journal of Health Economics using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts. Search terms included “economic,” “cost,” and “cost analysis.” Study Selection: Reviewers appraised abstracts to identify original research published during 1989-1993 comparing costs and outcomes between drugs, treatments, and/or services. Initially, 123 articles met criteria; 16 were inappropriate, 17 were randomized out, and 90 (73%) were used (30/group). Data Extraction: Quality was assessed using a 13-item checklist. Interrater reliability was 0.91 (p < 0.05) for 9 raters, test-retest reliability was 0.94 (p < 0.001). Data Synthesis: A 2-way ANOVA, with overall quality scores as a dependent variable with journal type and year as independent variables, was significant (F = 2.79, p = 0.002, r2 = 0.34), with no significant interaction (F = 0.71, p = 0.68) or time effect (F = 0.70, p = 0.60). Journal types differed; pharmacy journals scored significantly lower (χ2= 53.89, df = 2, p < 0.001). Items rated adequate (i.e., correct or acceptable) increased over time (χ2 = 21.18, df = 4, p < 0.001). Ethical issues and study perspective most needed improvement. Conclusions: Article quality for all journal types increased over time nonsignificantly; health economics journals scored highest, then medical journals, with pharmacy journals significantly lower (and having the highest standard deviation). We recommend that authors and reviewers pay closer attention to study perspective and ethical implications.

Résumé :
Abstract Tett, P., Carreira, C., Mills, D. K., van Leeuwen, S., Foden, J., Bresnan, E., and Gowen, R. J. 2008. Use of a Phytoplankton Community Index to assess the health of coastal waters. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 65: 1475–1482. Monitoring of marine-ecosystem status and health requires indicators of community structure and function. As a structural indicator, we propose a Phytoplankton Community Index (PCI) based on the abundance of “life-forms” such as “pelagic diatoms” or “medium-sized autotrophic dinoflagellates”. To calculate the PCI, data showing seasonal variation in these abundances are plotted in “life-form space” of two or more dimensions. Data from a “type-specific reference condition” are then enclosed within a reference envelope. Comparison data are plotted into the same coordinate system, and the PCI is the proportion (between 0 and 1) of these new data that fall within the reference envelope. Results from initial applications of this method are shown for UK coastal waters in the northern North Sea (near Stonehaven), a Scottish fjord (Loch Creran), and the eastern Irish Sea (including Liverpool Bay). The Stonehaven data (1997–2005) were used to compare values obtained from weekly sampling with those from monthly sampling. A spatial comparison between more- and less-nutrient-enriched waters in the eastern Irish Sea (1991–2003) showed little difference in phytoplankton community structure. Loch Creran has experienced a large change in the “balance of organisms”, and hence a reduction in the PCI, between 1979–1981 and 2006/2007, associated with a decrease in chlorophyll but no apparent change in nutrients. These results are discussed in relation to the intended uses of the PCI as an index of biological quality for the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and an index of ecosystem health in the context of eutrophication. Although the method only measures change, it can also be used as an indicator of biological quality if the reference conditions are those defined for a WFD waterbody, and as an indicator of health if appropriately calibrated. Suggestions are made for further development.

Résumé :
Introduction: This retrospective descriptive study evaluated the Scopus-indexed dental journals and their most-cited documents affiliated with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries from 2011 to 2021. Methods: Dental journals affiliated with MENA countries, their bibliometric indicators (SJR, CiteScore, SNIP, and H-index), and the 101 most cited articles of the considered journals were extracted and studied through descriptive statistics. In addition, the "citation per year" of each top 101 articles was calculated. Spearman’s rho test was used for pairwise comparisons of the correlation coefficient values between each two of the considered bibliometric indicators. Results: The number of citations of the 101 most-cited papers ranged from 35 to 203. The mean (SD) citations of studied articles were 61.33 (37.58) and the median was 46. Furthermore, CiteScore had the highest significant correlation with SJR (r=0.828, P˂0.001). Moreover, the citation per year of the top 101 documents had no significant relationship with any of the journals’ bibliometric indicators. Conclusion: Because journal performance and citation rate are multi-dimensional concepts, a single metric cannot express them thoroughly despite correlations between indices. "European Journal of Dentistry" from Turkey, "Saudi Dental Journal" from Saudi Arabia, and "Iranian Endodontic Journal" and "Journal of Lasers in Medical Sciences" both from Iran had the highest ranks in the SCImago portal and the highest scores in bibliometric indices amongst the MENA dental journals

Introduction: Research activities have increased manifold due to the importance of scientific publication in advancing an academic career. Researchers find it strenuous to choose journals due to the availability of a higher number of scientific journals. Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the various journal factors that affect its selection to publish research work and the motivating factors involved in it. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 219 dental professionals that included dental faculties, postgraduate students, and private dental practitioners of Odisha, through a self-administered questionnaire via Google Forms consisting of 15 items. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square test were used for statistical analysis with a level of significance set at 0.05. Results: Respondents were predominantly dental faculty (53%). Factors influencing journal selection were citation of the journal (89.4%), followed by impact factor and indexing of the journal. Less than half (42.4%) agreed to pay the publishing charges. It was observed that PubMed indexing was preferred, followed by Scopus. The reason to publish was different for faculty and postgraduate students. Conclusions: Researchers consider various factors before publishing in a journal with the intent of discoverability and recognition. The study revealed that indexing of journals and impact factor as important aspects of choosing a journal for publication.

AbstractThis work applies a factor analysis with VARIMAX rotation to develop a bibliometric indicator, named the Weighted Factor Index, in order to derive a new classification for journals belonging to a certain category, alternative to the one provided by the Journal Impact Factor. For this, 16 metrics from three different databases (Web of Science, Scopus and SCImago Journal Rank) are considered. The Weighed Factor Index entails the advantage of incorporating and summarizing information from all the indicators; so as to test its performance, it was applied to rank journals belonging to the category Information Science & Library Science.

Résumé :
216 Background: National oncology and palliative care organizations recommend greater incorporation of palliative care in clinical care and research in advanced cancer to improve care quality. In radiation oncology, palliative oncology care represents approximately 30-40% of treatment courses. Given the frequency of palliative care in radiation oncology and recommendations for greater research at this intersection, we sought to determine the prevalence and patterns of publication of symptom control and palliative care focused original research articles in two prominent radiation oncology journals from 2004-2015. Methods: From 2005 to 2014, abstracts of original research manuscripts published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology (Red Journal) and the Radiotherapy and Oncology (Green Journal) journals were reviewed to determine the number and content of abstracts relating to symptom control and palliative care (SCPC). Research articles were included if their abstract described a patient population with advanced or metastatic cancer and were considered focused on SCPC if symptom palliation was the goal of treatment or patterns of palliative care needs was the goal of the research inquiry. Change in annual proportion of SCPC abstracts over time was assessed with the χ-square trend test. Results: From 2005 -2014, 10.6% (593/5611: range 4.2-17%) of all original research articles published in the Red Journal and 14.5% (365/2516: range 12.2-17.4%) published in the Green Journal involved palliative care. In the Red Journal, 1.3% (75/5611) of original research articles were specifically focused on SCPC and 5.3% (133/2516) in the Green Journal. In both journals the number of abstracts did not change over time (p = 0.24). Randomized controlled trials accounted for a minority (10.6%, 22/208) of SCPC abstracts in both journals. Conclusions: SCPC-focused original research is poorly represented in two major radiation oncology academic journals. Palliative radiotherapy is a critical part of radiotherapy clinical practice and should be the subject of further research; particularly needed is research employing rigorous study designs.

AbstractPromotion and ranks of teachers in schools are carried out by the Department of Education every year. One component that must be fulfilled in the credit rating assessment is scientific publication. Journals publishing teachers' scientific reports have an alarming management system as it is not in line with the current development of electronic journals. This study intends to standardize scientific journal issuance managed by the department of education and the department of religious affairs, central java province, which were the research target. Journal management is standardized by referring to the national accredited electronic journal management. Assistance and simulation were performed in achieving standardization. The simulation revealed that the studied journals have not owned the e-ISSN, DOI, publication ethics, and have not been published electronically. Moreover, the managers of the target journal have limited knowledge about journal management. The pre test scores of the participants before the mentoring were on average 40, while the post test scores on the average 75. The mentoring done for the journal managers in both agencies showed a remarkable impact on their knowledge about journal manager as the simulation, which is according to the set national journal accreditation guidelines, was successfully performed.

There are many factors affecting review duration after a paper has been submitted to a journal. Developing a time-to-acceptance model of each journal for the whole time span from submission to acceptance can help researchers when they are selecting journals to publish research results, as well as help editors when they are optimizing workflow and strategy. Using ISI-indexed journals in the profession of library and information science as an example, this study aims to explore the possible patterns of time-to-acceptance for refereed articles. Based on the theories of maximum likelihood estimation, this article models probability distributions for the retrieved data through the R package fitdistrplus. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is further used to determine if the distribution for each journal can be accepted.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the types of articles and authorship characteristics of three orthodontic journals—American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJODO), The Angle Orthodontist (AO), and European Journal of Orthodontics (EJO)—published between 2008 and 2012 and to assess the differences in content within this period and an earlier period of 1998 to 2002. Materials and Methods: Each journal's content was accessed through the web edition. From each article, the following parameters were recorded: article type, number of authors, number of affiliations, source of article (referring to the first author's affiliation), and geographic origin. Descriptive statistics were performed and selected parameters were analyzed with the Pearson chi-square or Fisher exact test for independence at the .05 level of significance. Results: Review of differences between the two periods showed that the number of publications was almost double. The percentages of multi-authored articles increased. Fewer studies derived from the United States/Canada and European Union countries. Increases for articles from non–European Union countries, Asia, and other countries were found. Characteristics of the second period showed that the EJO and AO published more research articles, whereas the AJODO regularly published case reports and other articles. Approximately 75% of all studies derived from orthodontic departments. Conclusions: The publications from 1998–2002 and 2008–2012 were significantly different both in terms of numbers and characteristics. Within 2008–2012 there were notable differences between the three journals concerning the type and origin of the publications.

Résumé :
Cervical cancer is the leading cause of death in the world, with 311,365 cervical cancer deaths. recorded globally in 2018. Cervical cancer is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). This viral infection is often found in sexually active women who have multiple partners. Therefore, cervical cancer can be prevented by conducting early examination through Visual Acetate Inspection (IVA). The purpose of the literature review is to determine whether there is a relationship between theory of planned behavior and participation in IVA examinations in women of fertile age. The method uses Literature reviews from the Pubmed, Microsoft Academic, BASE and Google Scholar databases, published in 2015 to 2020, and manually selects and analyzes relevant articles. The results of the literature review show that of the 20 journals found and in accordance with the research questions, namely, 1 journal that discusses the Intention Relationship of the IVA test, 7 journals that discuss the Relationship of the IVA Test Behavior, 9 journals that discuss the Attitude Relationship of the IVA test, 3 journals that discuss the Relationship of Subjective Norms for the IVA test and from the 20 journals that were found active IVA examination, 4 journals and 16 journals that were not active performed the IVA examination. From the results of the analysis of the journal, it was found that there was a lack of knowledge and information about IVA tests so that women of childbearing age did not actively carry out IVA examinations, the importance of counseling and health education regarding early detection of cervical cancer, especially IVA tests, not only for women of childbearing age, but also for their husbands, so that they understand the importance of early detection of cervical cancer and can increase the intention, behavior, attitude and subjective norms towards the activity of the IVA test.

ObjectiveWe assessed how well articles in major medical and psychiatric journals followed best reporting practices in presenting results of intervention studies.MethodStandardised data collection was used to review studies in high-impact and widely read medical (JAMA,LancetandNew England Journal of Medicine) and psychiatric (American Journal of Psychiatry,JAMA Psychiatry,Journal of Clinical PsychiatryandLancet Psychiatry) journals, published between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019. Two team members independently reviewed each article.MeasuresThe primary outcome measure was proportion of papers reporting consensus elements required to understand and evaluate the results of the intervention. The secondary outcome measure was comparison of complete and accessible reporting in the major medical versus the major psychiatric journals.ResultsOne hundred twenty-seven articles were identified for inclusion. At least 90% of articles in both medical and psychiatric journals included sample size, statistical significance, randomisation method, elements of study flow, and age, sex, and illness severity by randomisation group. Selected elements less frequently reported by either journal type were confidence intervals in the abstract, reported in 93% (95% CI 84% to 97%) of medical journal articles and 58% (95% CI 45% to 69%) of psychiatric journal articles, and sample size method (93%, 95% CI 84% to 97% medical; 69%, 95% CI 57% to 80% psychiatric), race and ethnicity by randomisation group (51%, 95% CI 40% to 63% medical; 73%, 95% CI 60% to 83% psychiatric), and adverse events (94%; 95% CI 86% to 98% medical; 80%, 95% CI 68% to 88% psychiatric) in the main text. CIs were included less often in psychiatric than medical journals (p<0.004 abstract, p=0.04 main text, after multiple-testing correction).ConclusionsRecommendations include standard inclusion of a table specifying the outcome(s) designated as primary, and the sample size, effect size(s), CI(s) and p value(s) corresponding to the primary test(s) for efficacy.

Résumé :
Impact factor (Web of Science, Clarivate Analytics) and CiteScore (Scopus, Elsevier) are the two leading metrics for journal evaluation, assessment and ranking. The relationship between the two is now established, using their respective percentile in this paper for 105 journal in the Computer science, theory and methods (CSTM) subject category. The available studies did not consider the quartile comparison of the journal percentiles of the two database (Scopus and Science Citation Index expanded). The mean impact factor and CiteScore are 2.08 and 2.67 respectively. Pearson correlation coefficient between the impact factor and CiteScore is (0.919, p = 0.000) and between their respective journal percentiles is (r = 0.804, p = 0.000). Analysis of variance revealed that the means of the impact factor and CiteScore of the 105 CSTM journals are the same (F = 3.64, P = 0.058) but different (F = 38.94, P = 0.00) for their respective percentiles. The median test contradicts the ANOVA as the medians of impact factor and CiteScore are different at 0.05 level of significance. The median journal percentiles are the same for only 2 journal titles. The median journal percentile (SCIE) is greater than the median journal percentile (Scopus) for 5 journal titles and less than the median journal percentile (Scopus) for 98 journal titles. The same result was obtained when the percentiles were converted to quartiles, but in this case, the median journal quartiles are the same for 37 journal titles. The median journal quartile (SCIE) is greater than the median journal quartile (Scopus) for 67 journal titles and less than the median journal quartile (Scopus) in only one journal title. Only 37 (35 %) journals are in the same quartile of the two metrics. Caution is recommended in journal evaluation as conflicting different results can be obtained using the same metric.

Résumé :
The analytic review of work of the scientific journal «Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change» (EDGCC) over the 10 years since the first publishing is presented here. Statistical (science metrical) data were summarized to reveal what papers were most interesting and useful for readers.Two-year impact factor (IF) of the journal increases persistently. During last five years it shows five-fold increase reaching a certain level among other Russian journals of the respective category. Number of EDGCC authors (special issues were not considered) does not vary substantially: 10-16 authors are published in EDGCC each year (among the first authors – from 4 to 10). The Hirsch index also increases stably during all years of publication showing that authors with higher qualification start to submit their papers to the journal. 26 scientific journals were selected randomly among those where authors of EDGCC publish their papers to compare science metrics of EDGCC with other journals (based on 2016 data). Two-year IF based on Russian Science Citation Index of 70% of these journals was lower than IF of EDGCC. The half-live of EDGCC papers is close to the average value for our ensemble. The EDGCC mean Hirsch index was higher than Hirsch index of 63% of all journals selected for our study. The value of probability of citation after reading was the highest for the test sample. Bibliometric parameters of ten most cited EDGCC papers were also analyzed here. Based on provided analysis following recommendations on improving EDGCC as scientific journals have been formulated: translation of papers into English, selection of manuscripts relevant to the journal topic, increasing the number of theoretical papers, improving the quality of experimental papers. Discussion section reviewed in a usual manner seems to be optimal decision to provide future development of the journal. New referee questionnaire modified according to the recommendations above for improvement of manuscripts quality is attached in appendix.

Résumé :
To date, the majority of authors on scientific publications have been men. While much of this gender bias can be explained by historic sexism and discrimination, there is concern that women may still be disadvantaged by the peer review process if reviewers’ biases lead them to reject publications with female authors more often. One potential solution to this perceived gender bias in the reviewing process is for journals to adopt double-blind reviews whereby neither the authors nor the reviewers are aware of each other’s identity and gender. To test the efficacy of double-blind reviews in one behavioral ecology journal (Behavioral Ecology, BE), we assigned gender to every authorship of every paper published for 2010–2018 in that journal compared to four other journals with single-blind reviews but similar subject matter and impact factors. While female authorships comprised only 35% of the total in all journals, the double-blind journal (BE) did not have more female authorships than its single-blind counterparts. Interestingly, the incidence of female authorship is higher at behavioral ecology journals (BE and Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology) than in the ornithology journals (Auk, Condor, Ibis) for papers on all topics as well as those on birds. These analyses suggest that double-blind review does not currently increase the incidence of female authorship in the journals studied here. We conclude, at least for these journals, that double-blind review no longer benefits female authors and we discuss the pros and cons of the double-blind reviewing process based on our findings.

Objective: to develop and test inter-observer reproducibility of instructions for authors quality rating (IAQR) tool measuring the quality of instructions for authors at journal level for a possible improvement of editorial guidelines.Material and methods: instructions for authors of 75 dental and maxillofacial surgery journals were assessed by two independent observers using assessment tool inspired from AGREE with 16 questions and 1 to 4 points scale per answer. Two observers evaluated the instructions of authors independently and blind to impact factor of a given journal. Scores obtained from our tool were compared with “journal impact factor 2013”. Results: IAQR presented with an excellent interobserver reproducibility (κ= 0.81) despite a difference in data distribution between observers. There existed a weak positive correlation between IAQR and “journal impact factor 2013”. Conclusions: The IAQR is a reproducible quality assessment tool at the journal level. The IAQR assess the quality of instruction for authors and it is a goodstarting point for possible improvements of the instructions for authors, especially when it comes to their completeness. Nemesis relevance: 28% of dental and maxillofacial journals might revise their instructions for authors to provide more up-to-date version.

Résumé :
AbstractDesigners are interacting with an increasing number of digital tools in their design process; however, these are usually in addition to the traditional and ubiquitous paper-based design journals. This paper explores the medium of informal design information and its relationships with sketching behavior over three stages of the design process: preliminary investigation and user needs analyses, concept generation and development, and prototyping and testing. Our test bed consists of tangible, digital, and hybrid design journals collected from four semesters of UC Berkeley's graduate level, multidisciplinary course titled “Managing the New Product Development Process: Design Theory and Methods.” We developed protocols for two categories of analysis: one that codes for the media type of each journal and its content, and another one that characterizes the content within the journal. We found a trend toward hybrid digital–tangible journals for the engineering students over the 4-year period. These hybrid journals exhibited a higher degree of detail over advancing design stages, which has been shown to correlate with improved project performance. We also present several case studies of unusual design journals that illustrate the range of designers' interpretations of design journals as a medium. Based on this descriptive research, features for interactive hybrid tangible–digital design journals are recommended.

Résumé :
A review of: Postell, William Dosité. “Further Comments on the Mathematical Analysis of Evaluating Scientific Journals.” Bulletin of the Medical Library Association 34.2 (1946): 107-9. Objective – To predict future use of journal titles for making subscription decisions. Design – Retrospective cohort study. Setting – Louisiana State University School of Medicine Library in New Orleans. Subjects – All library users, estimated to consist of primarily faculty members or their designees such as research assistants. Methods – Estelle Brodman’s previous citation analysis and reputational analysis (1944) that produced a list of eleven top-ranked physiology journal titles served as the catalyst for Postell’s retrospective cohort study. Postell compiled data on all checkouts for these specific eleven journal titles in his library for the years 1939 through approximately 1945. Main Results – Postell performed a Spearman rank-difference test on the rankings produced from his own circulation use data in order to compare it against journal title rankings produced from three other sources: (1) citation analysis from the references found in the Annual Review of Physiology based upon a system pioneered in 1927 by Gross and Gross; (2) three leading national physiology journals; and, (3) a reputational analysis list of top-ranked journals provided by the faculty members at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Department of Physiology. Postell found a relatively high correlation (.755, with 1.000 equaling a perfect correlation) between his retrospective cohort usage data and the reputational analysis list of top-ranked journals generated by the Columbia faculty members. The two citation analyses performed by Brodman did not correlate as highly with Postell’s results. Conclusion – Brodman previously had questioned the use of citation analysis for journal subscription purchase decisions. Postell’s retrospective cohort study produced further evidence against basing subscription purchases on citation analysis. Postell noted that the citation analysis method “cannot always be relied upon as a valid criterion” for selecting journals in a discipline.

Résumé :
AbstractPurposeRamanujacharyulu developed the Power-weakness Ratio (PWR) for scoring tournaments. The PWR algorithm has been advocated (and used) for measuring the impact of journals. We show how such a newly proposed indicator can empirically be tested.Design/methodology/approachPWR values can be found by recursively multiplying the citation matrix by itself until convergence is reached in both the cited and citing dimensions; the quotient of these two values is defined as PWR. We study the effectiveness of PWR using journal ecosystems drawn from the Library and Information Science (LIS) set of the Web of Science (83 journals) as an example. Pajek is used to compute PWRs for the full set, and Excel for the computation in the case of the two smaller sub-graphs: (1) JASIST+ the seven journals that cite JASIST more than 100 times in 2012; and (2) MIS Quart+ the nine journals citing this journal to the same extent.FindingsA test using the set of 83 journals converged, but did not provide interpretable results. Further decomposition of this set into homogeneous sub-graphs shows that—like most other journal indicators—PWR can perhaps be used within homogeneous sets, but not across citation communities. We conclude that PWR does not work as a journal impact indicator; journal impact, for example, is not a tournament.Research limitationsJournals that are not represented on the “citing” dimension of the matrix-for example, because they no longer appear, but are still registered as “cited” (e.g. ARIST)-distort the PWR ranking because of zeros or very low values in the denominator.Practical implicationsThe association of “cited” with “power” and “citing” with “weakness” can be considered as a metaphor. In our opinion, referencing is an actor category and can be studied in terms of behavior, whereas “citedness” is a property of a document with an expected dynamics very different from that of “citing.” From this perspective, the PWR model is not valid as a journal indicator.Originality/valueArguments for using PWR are: (1) its symmetrical handling of the rows and columns in the asymmetrical citation matrix, (2) its recursive algorithm, and (3) its mathematical elegance. In this study, PWR is discussed and critically assessed.

Résumé :
In the field of social sciences and particularly in economics, studies have frequently reported a lack of reproducibility of published research. Most often, this is due to the unavailability of data reproducing the findings of a study. However, over the past years, debates on open science practices and reproducible research have become stronger and louder among research funders, learned societies, and research organisations. Many of these have started to implement data policies to overcome these shortcomings. Against this background, the article asks if there have been changes in the way economics journals handle data and other materials that are crucial to reproduce the findings of empirical articles. For this purpose, all journals listed in the Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports edition for economics have been evaluated for policies on the disclosure of research data. The article describes the characteristics of these data policies and explicates their requirements. Moreover, it compares the current findings with the situation some years ago. The results show significant changes in the way journals handle data in the publication process. Research libraries can use the findings of this study for their advisory activities to best support researchers in submitting and providing data as required by journals.

Résumé :
Uric acid is an acid that is formed as a result of purine metabolism in the body. Higher levels of uric acid in the blood will cause an inflammatory reaction or inflammation that causes swelling, redness, and pain. The prevalence of suffering from uric acid (gout) in Dharmas Raya is 754 elderly Indonesians. The purpose of the literature review is to review the effect of cupping on gout. The literature review is carried out based on issues. In the literature review, this journal uses an average of 5 research journals using pre-experimental with pre-test - post-test design. The literature review strategy according to the PICO and the journals used for the literature review was obtained through data from national and international journal providers through Google Scientist.: Based on 5 studies it was found that one of the results was obtained. The statistical analysis used in this study is statistical analysis. paired t-test. Uric acid levels before and after cupping therapy were 4.91 and 4.33, respectively. Based on the t-test of differences in blood uric acid levels before and after cupping therapy, the value of t = 2.46 (p = 0.02) p-value is smaller than (a = 0.05) this indicates that there is a difference in blood acid levels before and after cupping therapy significantly. From these 5 journal studies, it can be said that wet cupping therapy can reduce uric acid levels.

Résumé :
Background: The goal of this study was to characterize the references provided as supporting evidence of the Plastic Surgery In-service Training Examination (PSITE) syllabi, including those on the novel “core surgical principles” section. Methods: We analyzed the references from five consecutive PSITE Examination syllabi (2016–2020). We collected the following information from each question: question section, total number of references, and source of publication of each reference. Results: We analyzed 1250 questions and 3436 references. Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery was overall the most frequently referenced journal followed by Journal of Hand Surgery (American Volume) and Annals of Plastic Surgery. The most commonly referenced textbooks were Plastic Surgery (by Neligan), Green’s Operative Hand Surgery, and Grabb and Smith’s Plastic Surgery. Regarding the “core surgical principles” section, Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery remained the most frequently cited journal, followed by the Journal of the American Medical Association, New England Journal of Medicine, Annals, and Aesthetic Surgery Journal. “Core surgical principles” contained the largest number of unique journals (n = 209) among all test sections. Within the “core” section, Statistics in Medicine was the most frequently referenced textbook followed by Grabb and Smith’s Plastic Surgery. Conclusions: The main plastic surgery texts and literature were used to support approximately half of the answers within the “core surgical principles” section. The references within this section originated from the largest number of different journals, thus highlighting the breadth and variety of this content and the challenges in preparing for this section.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between dissemination of research papers on Twitter and its influence on research impact. Design/methodology/approach Four types of journal Twitter accounts (journal, owner, publisher and no Twitter account) were defined to observe differences in the number of tweets and citations. In total, 4,176 articles from 350 journals were extracted from Plum Analytics. This altmetric provider tracks the number of tweets and citations for each paper. Student’s t-test for two-paired samples was used to detect significant differences between each group of journals. Regression analysis was performed to detect which variables may influence the getting of tweets and citations. Findings The results show that journals with their own Twitter account obtain more tweets (46 percent) and citations (34 percent) than journals without a Twitter account. Followers is the variable that attracts more tweets (ß=0.47) and citations (ß=0.28) but the effect is small and the fit is not good for tweets (R2=0.46) and insignificant for citations (R2=0.18). Originality/value This is the first study that tests the performance of research journals on Twitter according to their handles, observing how the dissemination of content in this microblogging network influences the citation of their papers.

Résumé :
The principal goal of the research study is to analyze the transparency of a selection of academic journals based on an analysis model with 20 indicators grouped into 6 parameters. Given the evident interest in and commitment to transparency among quality academic journals and researchers’ difficulties in choosing journals that meet a set of criteria, we present indicators that may help researchers choose journals while also helping journals to consider what information from the editorial process to publish, or not, on their websites to attract authors in the highly competitive environment of today’s scholarly communication. To test the validity of the indicators, we analyze a small sample: the Spanish Communications and Library and Information Science journals listed in the Scimago Journal Rank. The results confirm that our analysis model is valid and can be extrapolated to other disciplines and journals.

Résumé :
Previous studies provided mixed findings on pecularities inp-value distributions in psychology. This paper examined 258,050 test results across 30,710 articles from eight high impact journals to investigate the existence of a peculiar prevalence ofp-values just below .05 (i.e., a bump) in the psychological literature, and a potential increase thereof over time. We indeed found evidence for a bump just below .05 in the distribution of exactly reportedp-values in the journals Developmental Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, but the bump did not increase over the years and disappeared when using recalculatedp-values. We found clear and direct evidence for the QRP “incorrect rounding ofp-value” (John, Loewenstein & Prelec, 2012) in all psychology journals. Finally, we also investigated monotonic excess ofp-values, an effect of certain QRPs that has been neglected in previous research, and developed two measures to detect this by modeling the distributions of statistically significantp-values. Using simulations and applying the two measures to the retrieved test results, we argue that, although one of the measures suggests the use of QRPs in psychology, it is difficult to draw general conclusions concerning QRPs based on modeling ofp-value distributions.
