Ineffective communication behavioral constructs in the workplace that lead to information technology (IT) project failure and in some cases organization failure are increasingly becoming a management concern. Despite this trend, there is little research on the communication behavioral constructs that contribute to IT project failure rates. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of business analysts, programmers, and programmer analysts pertaining to the behavioral constructs associated with effective and ineffective communication. The research questions addressed these behaviors from a conceptual framework based on communication theory, organizational information processing theory, and critical social theory. This framework guided data collection using electronic interviews of a snowball sample of social media participants. Data were coded using open and axial techniques, analyzed for themes and patterns, and member checked to bolster trustworthiness. Findings included 10 communication behavioral constructs that influence communication in IT software development teams. Included in the findings were potential options for improving communication among end users, management, programmers, and other employees. Recommendations to improve communication among stakeholders included involvement of the correct stakeholders, clear project requirements, frequent communication, active listening, and feedback. Other recommendations were stakeholder education and training, and knowledge of goals and processes. Implications for positive social change could be realized by using the findings to improve the way communication is addressed, shared, and implemented to reduce IT project failure for stakeholders.

This thesis examined the influence of mobile digital technology on the brand identity of luxury brands. Specifically it focused on the use of mobile applications by automobile, hotel and beauty brands and compared the perceptions of marketing managers with consumers on how mobile applications influenced luxury brand identity and image. Outcomes of this research included a model to depict the ongoing process between mobile-mediated luxury brand identity and image, and a typology of luxury brand mobile applications listing key features of mobile-mediated luxemosphere. Overall findings suggest that the influence of mobile applications on luxury brand identity has been negative, as their brand image appeared to be degraded, resulting in diminishing the brand identity.

Academic Technology (AT) is a fast growing field that deserves attention given its dynamic nature and impact on educational practices. The field has evolved from information technology to concentrate on advancing technology to enhance teaching and learning. Yet, the field appears to be insufficiently mature or defined making it difficult for AT professionals to be categorized and characterized or to fully understand their changing roles. There is uncertainty as to the roles, responsibilities and positions of AT professionals both within and outside of the field.

Research in this area is minimal and highlights the need for strategic action to support the differentiation of instructional tasks and promote the influence of AT professionals (Kowch, 2013; Nworie, 2005). An online survey was conducted of 81 AT professionals to better understand the responsibilities and perceptions of their roles, concerns and influence. Statistical factor analysis identified five most cited responsibilities and compared the differences between what the professionals "do" and what they believed they "should" do. ANOVA was used to calculate gaps in performance based on the "do" and "should" responses.

The study findings concludes that the majority of AT professionals have influence on the AT decision making process at their institution of higher learning, AT decisions appear to be made based on technological rather than pedagogical considerations and AT professionals have an expanded responsibilities and obligations at their institution of higher learning. These findings are consistent with literature that indicates that AT professionals need to be in influential positions on campus and that decisions concerning technology for teaching and learning are not made by AT professionals who are unique in that they have knowledge and experience in both academia and technology (Kowch, 2005).

This study suggests more research is needed especially in the areas of AT in higher education and AT leadership. For example do universities have an AT strategic plan? If so, who is charged with implementation? Further research in these areas will enhance the field of AT and solidify the AT leadership position on campus.

This thesis investigated the influence of values, culture and context on technology adoption behaviour. This thesis aimed to theoretically develop and validate the Values-Enhanced Technology Adoption (VETA) model, integrating Schwartz’s Theory of Human Values with the Unified Theory of the Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2). The VETA model was validated through survey data in four research organisations based in East Africa (Kenya and Uganda), The Gambia and the United Kingdom. Contextual differences in adoption factors were explored through interviews with e-learners. Workers were surveyed during their participation in a professional e-learning course and interviewed six weeks after their e-learning experience. Survey analysis was completed using Partial-Least-Squares Structural-Equation-Modelling (PLS-SEM); interview data was analysed through computer aided thematic analysis. The VETA model was partially confirmed in the context with performance expectancy, price value, and habit predicting learner intention to use e-learning. Values interacted with the VETA model as predictors of adoption factors. The value of achievement was most important in predicting intention to use e-learning. Learners prioritising achievement as an important aspect of their worldview perceived e-learning to be important in their social context and worthwhile in terms of cost and benefit. The type and source of social influence differed in the African contexts from the UK: peer, champion, and manager influence were informational for African learners. The lack of facilitating conditions in the African environment was a perceived barrier to e-learning use for African learners that could be overcome with special endeavours which were not needed in the UK environment. This thesis demonstrated the integration of values and technology adoption literature in the development and validation of the VETA model, and expanded the constructs of social influence, price value, performance expectancy and facilitating conditions in sub-Saharan Africa and the UK. Despite contextual differences, the VETA model applied consistently across the East African, West African and UK contexts.

A case-comparative mixed methods approach was used to discover how faculty members’ teaching perspectives changed as they adopted an eportfolio tool (Pathbrite). Ten faculty members took the Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) before and after using the tool during Fall semester 2015. Also, systems logs were collected and interviews were conducted after the post survey was completed. Interview data found that faculty members developed a broader view of the potential of eportfolios. Participants also appreciated the long-term benefits that eportfolios would have on their students. However, when use was associated with accreditation standards, gains in student-centered perspectives were minimal. The study suggests cognitive apprenticeship as a model that explains the discovered findings and provides recommendations to administrators who are implementing eportfolios.

Each year, companies will spend millions of dollars developing or migrating to new software systems in their business processes. Much of the focus of development and implementation has been based upon customer need (i.e., requirements), and rightly so. Equally important to requirements, however, are the usersâ perceptions of the software. Does a user actually think a piece of software would help them meet the need identified? Does the user think it would be easy for them to implement this software as a solution? What do the people around the user think and how does that opinion affect theirs? It is important to understand what factors determine whether a potential user will adopt a software application and how much they will use it? A commonly used model for explaining this is the Technology Acceptance Model. Davis (1989) found that subjective belief about a software system is most closely related to the actual intention to use it. Specifically, Davis uses Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use in the Technology Acceptance Model to model intention to use a software system statistically. Neither of these subjective views are formed by a potential user in isolation. The opinions and behavior of others can potentially exert a great deal of influence on an individualâ s perception of these factors. Davis himself points out the omission of social influence in the original Technology Acceptance Model was due to measurement difficulties rather than to its potential value in the model. Difficulty in measuring social influence is evidenced by the lack of a definitive scale of social influence. By its common use in many studies, Subjective Norm has become the â defacto standardâ for measuring social influence but this has not resulted in a consistently significant measure of social influence. The goal of this current study is two-fold. The primary goal is to incorporate a validated scale of social influence into the original Technology Acceptance Model which preserves the modelâ s parsimony while significantly increasing its explained variance. Secondarily, in doing so, a modified scale based upon Subjective Norms will be verified and tested. In response to a recognized shortcoming of Subjective Norm, a cognitive element will be included into the modified scale. In this current study the modification of Subjective Norm was developed based upon existing research on the topic. The Technology Acceptance Model is augmented by the proposed scale and tested over four surveys. Two systems are chosen for study because of the nature of their use; use of one (Filebox) is voluntary, and use of the other (Blackboard) is compulsory. The results of the survey were consistent across all four surveys, with the model predicting over 40% of the variation in behavior every time. Including the modified scale of Subjective Norm significantly increased the explained variance of the model (i.e., R2) in every survey. The results verify the reliability and validity of the modified scale of Subjective Norm. These four studies make a strong case for including this scale of social influence as a regular scale in the Technology Acceptance Model for future research. Future directions for studying the scale and the resulting model are also discussed. The resulting behavioral model is a valuable tool that will give software developers and managers more forethought and insight into the development of and migration to specific software systems.

This thesis focuses upon how the use of aleatoricism can be used in electro-acoustic music to increase the perceived connection between the electronic and acoustic forces in performance. It also considers how the tools that a composer uses to create their work can enforce an influence upon their own creative process. These issues stem from research conducted early in the project investigating mapping strategies applied to composition for physical gesture capture devices. The thesis progresses by exploring performer freedom for both electronic and acoustic performers which includes examination of the use of different methods of scoring in order to transmit the composer's ideas. The approach is then considered in isolation from electronics with purely acoustic ensembles before exploring the use of recording as a compositional technique alongside indeterminate performance. All of these issues are explored within the context of my own practice, while simultaneously highlighting my overall compositional approach and how it is informed by this research. The thesis consists of two volumes. The first presents a portfolio of compositions that explore varying approaches to composition for various ensembles. The second volume consists of a written commentary that explores the context, themes and motivations for the compositions in the first.

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether consumers’ negative emotions (loss and deterrence emotions) toward new e-banking technology influence their behavioral intention to adopt new emerging e-banking technology. This thesis tries to integrate the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) with emotion as a non-cognitive factor and perceived risk as a well-known influential factor in the banking context. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used for analyzing its conceptual model and hypotheses. To test the hypotheses and model of this paper, a sample of 109 students as young consumers of new emerging e-banking technology was collected in Sweden. The findings support the negative relationship between loss emotions and effort expectancy as one of the cognitive factors of the UTAUT. Loss emotions could impact consumers’ behavioral intentions through consumers’ effort expectancy and performance expectancy. Moreover, the results show that perceived risk and performance expectancy are the strongest predictors of consumers' behavioral intention to adopt new emerging e-banking technology respectively while social influence and hedonic motivation do not show a statistically significant impact on consumers’ behavioral intention. The present study contributes to previous research by examining the influence of a broad range of negative emotions on consumers' behavioral intention to adopt new e-banking technology. To the best of the author’s knowledge, there exists no other study referring to this issue neither in the banking industry nor with the Swedishenvironment.

Researchers have shown that vocabulary development is a challenge for English Language Learners (ELLs) as they are less prepared to use contextual and linguistic clues to decode unfamiliar vocabulary. Beginning in the upper elementary grades, reading in content areas becomes lengthier and more complex. Technology-supported vocabulary instruction to teach social studies to ELLs is a relatively new concept in the 5th grade classroom. The purpose of this comparative study was to assess the vocabulary and reading comprehension outcomes of ELLs in the content area of 5th grade social studies when taught using technology-supported versus traditional textbook instruction. Mayer's cognitive theory of multimedia learning provided the theoretical foundation for the study. A quasi-­experimental approach with a nonequivalent pretest and posttest comparison group design was used. All 99 5th grade ELL students at an elementary school in the southeastern United States served as the study sample. Pre-existing classroom groups were taught using technology-supported or traditional textbook instruction. Instructional groups' vocabulary test scores were compared using ANCOVA with pretest social studies vocabulary scores serving as the covariate. Results revealed that 5th grade ELL students in the technology-supported instruction group scored significantly higher on the social studies vocabulary posttest as compared to the traditional textbook instruction group. The findings of this study suggest that technology-supported instruction in social studies is an effective teaching approach for ELL students at the 5th grade level. This study could be used to guide future research in the areas of ELL language acquisition, content area learning and comprehension, and equitable instruction for all students.

As the digital transformation and the technological development progresses, the tools, methods and practices of activistsare changing and a unification of engineers and social reformers can be witnessed in contemporary forms of activism.This thesis presents a case study research that explores how practices from the Free and Open Source softwaremovement can lead to a democratisation of technology in the environmental activism project Precious Plastic.Furthermore it analysis the broader societal implications of this democratisation with a focus on human well-being andthe natural environment. By discussing Kelty’s (2008) concept of recursive publics and Haff’s (2018) work on OpenSource as a development model in the context of Feenberg’s (1992) critical theory of technology, central Open Sourcepractices were identified that have the potential to foster a democratisation of technology. This guided a qualitative textanalysis of the development discussions of two phases of Precious Plastic. Two major factors could be identified thatdetermine the extent to which the democratisation of technology through Open Source practices is possible. Theopportunity to contribute to a project and the power of a central gatekeeper. Other aspects, like an increased sense ofbelonging, the discussion of the own infrastructure and the projects future, or the efforts to involve as many actors as pos-sible in the technology, were found to have fostered a deeper and broader discussion among the participants. This studysuggests to extend the term Open Source activism (Aitchison and Peters, 2011), to describe a form of activismthat has the creation of technology at its core and brings together a variety of actors with similar practices who negotiateand shape the aim and the purpose of technology, leading to an increased compatibility of the technology with ournatural and human limits. However, this concept needs to be refined and improved with further studies before it can begenerally applicable.

This qualitative research study investigated the experiences of five education faculty members about their experiences with technology. These faculty members come from different areas of education. They participated in a technology-based project, the purpose of which was to help faculty members integrate technology into their classrooms and implement technology in their instructions. Before the project, all of the faculty members had experiences with technology, such as emails, Internet searches and PowerPoint applications. During the project, most of them learned web page design and more technology integration into their curriculum and instruction. The purpose of this study is to respond to the need to identify, study and disseminate examples of technology using teachers and portray a group of education faculty members after they experienced a federally funded technology-based project. Their practices, beliefs, and factors that influence their beliefs and practices with technology integration are the focus of this study. Based on the literature and the research studies, the following questions were formulated in the following: 1. How has participation in the technology-based project influenced faculty members' beliefs and practices with technology integration? 2. What are the factors that influence faculty members' practices regarding technology? The findings are the following. All participants have always believed that technology is an important tool and should be integrated into the teaching and learning. However they believe that technology is not the only tool that can be used to enhance teaching and learning. Their experienced in the grant project have increased their confidence and comfort in using technology by being exposed to presentations and having real hands-on activities within a certain time period that did not conflict their academic calendars. Factors that influence their beliefs and practices are: experiences in the project, access to technology and technical problems, Administrative support (from the department and project directors) and technical support: from the students, from faculty, from technician, technological leadership, communication within the community and outside, time, and subject Issues. Internal factors identified include personal belief, personal feelings with technology use, demand of time to learn, learning style, and classroom teaching.

The purpose of this grounded theory study is to identify teacher factors that affect student performance on computerized exams such as teacher beliefs, professional development, and school resources. Additionally, the researcher seeks to identify student factors that can have an impact on student performance such as student demographics and the socioeconomic status of students.

To analyze and describe any differences in teacher beliefs between two schools, the researcher compared teacher training, administrative support, and teacher comfort with technology as it related to the technology acceptance model (TAM). The question that the researcher hopes to answer, which is a guiding question for this research is:

What factors influence student preparedness for computerized assessments?

The researcher attempts to answer this question by conducting surveys and interviewing teachers. The researcher codes and then analyzes the quantitative data using IBM’s Statistical Package for Research Software Program (SPSS) and codes the qualitative data using NVivo, a data analysis tool, to determine common themes about beliefs about technology. Major sections covered in this document include an introduction, review of the literature, methodology, results, and discussion.

Technology&Strategy is a French-German consulting company based in Strasbourg, France. Most of its activities take place in the automotive sector with many of their consultants working for Bosch Chassis Control in Abstatt, Germany. Bosch Chassis Control is responsible for the development of active safety control systems for many car manufacturers worldwide. The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) was created by Bosch and is now compulsory in every European car since 2014. The development of the ESP includes an portant part of onboard testing before the production release. The application team is responsible for achieving those tests and analyzing the data recorded. One of the features of the ESP is the TCS (Traction Control System) allowing the vehicle to remain at its maximum friction available depending on several parameters such as road friction, speed or wheel angle. The goal of this master thesis is to study the control logic of the TCS and highlight the inuence of several parameters from the software to the vehicle dynamics. The rst part of this thesis was dedicated to the development of a MATLAB tool used to visualize measurements out of di erent test sessions on the same plot. The current tool used is limited to a single measurement display. The second part focuses on the analysis of TCS data taken through several test sessions with di erent parameters. The two main controllers of the TCS, PTC and BTC (Powertrain Traction Control and Brake Traction Control) are the core of this analysis.

This study investigated the factors that influence community college students' attitudes toward technology, particularly in teaching and learning experiences. Studies on post-secondary students' attitudes reported in the literature are limited. Factors cited previously as having an effect on attitudes towards technology and toward computers included: gender; age; presence of a computer in the home; completion of a formal technology course; and comfort with technology. The subjects in this study were 372 students in freshman level credit English classes in the five colleges of the North Harris Montgomery Community College District located in the greater metropolitan Houston area. Previous research instruments and studies to measure students' attitudes toward technology were reviewed. A modified version of the Secondary Students Attitudes' Toward Technology (SSATT) was developed for this study because of the content, reliability, and applicability to the postsecondary population. The instrument was administered in the spring of 2005. The fact that 95.4% of the participants reported having a computer at home and that 70.2% reported having had a formal technology class provided insight into the integration of technology in the lives of this community college sample. A correlation matrix of all variables and analysis of variance were performed. Factor analyses were performed to identify subcomponents of the instrument. Eight factors were identified: (1) need for technology competence, (2) technology benefits, (3) negative aspects of technology, (4) technology and the workplace, (5) impact of increased use of technology, (6) video games, (7) technology and job creation, and (8) technology and safety. A conclusion of the study was that neither age nor gender had a significant effect on the post-secondary students' attitudes toward technology, which differs from the findings in some of the previous studies. Females reported being as comfortable, if not more so, with technology in teaching and learning experiences as the males in the study. Exposure to technology, completion of a formal technology class, and the use of computers appeared to positively affect community college students' attitudes toward technology.

In line with recent growth strategies as well as the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, countries are faced with achieving sustainable and inclusive growth. While inclusive growth is imposed as important task for countries to accomplish, its conceptualization is rather puzzling and demands more attention. There is no consensus on the concept of inclusiveness and its major determinants let alone on how to operationalise it. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is twofold. The first part is dedicated to provide deep insight of the concept and point the main characteristics of an inclusive growth wave. This part provides discussion of the literature on inclusive growth together with analysis of the different approaches used in the different definitions of the concept. It finishes with an overview on the empirical attempts to measuring inclusive growth. The second part investigates the influence of technology, represented in form of economic infrastructure, on inclusive growth through the process of poverty reduction. This part of the thesis analyses the influence of access to technology on inclusive growth, where the poverty reduction is the variable in focus. Regression analysis based on a cross-country data set including more then 100 developing countries indicates that technology access help to reduce poverty. The results show that economic infrastructure have negative correlation with poverty, although the explanatory variables are not robust to changes in poverty measures and changes in specifications.

Digital technology is a pervasive aspect of contemporary society and its influence on narrative has been profound. In the realm of museums digital technology is significantly altering the way museums create and disseminate narrative. Using survey research, this study examines the influence of digital technology on the narrative of American art museums. By surveying museum professionals working in American art museums narrative and technological trends can be identified. This research presents three major findings. First, museum professionals identify American art museums as narrative environments. Second, American art museums are using digital technologies for narrative purposes. Third, digital technology has directly influenced the narrative of American art museums. Recommendations for further areas of study are suggested based on the findings of this research.

Current literature is plentiful on computer-based technology's influence on students. There are only a few studies which have looked at the influence that computer-based technology has on teachers. This is a study of factors which influence teachers' use of computer-based technology. It is based on inconsistencies in previous studies, areas not addressed in previous surveys and the dramatic changes in computer-based technology and Internet access using Web browsers since the previous surveys on computer-based technology were conducted. A survey was conducted of K-12 teachers in two rural county school systems. One was in southern West Virginia and the other was in southwestern Virginia. This survey found that computer access in the classroom influenced the frequency of use for some instructional activities. Lack of Internet access and obsolete computer equipment resulted in a negative influence to the teachers use of computer-based technology in the classroom. Teachers also expressed a desire for a continuous type of training program for the use of computers.

Current research identifies effective leadership communication, which includes frequent direct conversational communication from company leaders, influences worker performance during organizational change. Social media, mobile technology, and the Millennial workforce have shifted leader communication style from purely top-down, town hall style communication to incorporate more collaborative and engaging forums. The case study addressed how globalization, social media, and mobile technology affects leadership communication and then subsequently effects worker performance as Millennials join the workforce. Qualitative data were collected from observations and interviews from a purposeful selection of 9 Millennial employees, including 2 Millennial leaders, and 8 non-Millennial leaders of a Fortune 100 company. The data were focused on leadership communication during the leaders' implementation of key company and organizational structural changes, which centered on the company's U.S. Location Strategy program. Data analysis involved the identification of themes relating to current leadership communication trends that included recognition that globalization requires updated technology and tools along with communication of best practices. Encouraging employees to share these tools and resources trend improvement in company performance. These findings contribute to social change by producing information about how globalization, Millennials, social media, and mobile technology use influenced leadership communication and effectiveness. The adaption and use of newer technology has influenced leadership communication effectiveness. Company leaders could use this information to implement changes that help employees communicate better within their workforce.

This body of work investigated the influence of alternative jet fuel properties on aviation gas turbine performance at threshold combustor operating conditions. It focused on altitude blowout performance and was in part motivated by results that were encountered during an aviation industry evaluation of synthetic kerosene that complied with the Jet A-1 specification, but differed from the fuel that was used as a reference in terms of some significant properties. As a consequence the relative impact of physical properties and reaction chemistry properties were of primary interest in this study. The thesis considered the potential to blend a range of different alternative jet fuel formulations which exhibited independent variations in properties relating to evaporation and reaction behaviour whilst still conforming to legislated physical fuel specifications. It further explored the potential for said variations having a detectable and significant influence on the simulated high altitude extinction behaviour in a representative aviation gas turbine combustor. Based on the findings, appropriate metrics were suggested for scientifically quantifying the appropriate properties and conclusions were drawn about the potential impact of alternative jet fuel properties on blowout performance. These subjects were addressed primarily through the theoretical analyses of targeted experimental programmes. The experimental design adopted a novel approach of formulating eight test fuels to reflect real-world alternative fuel compositions while still enabling a targeted evaluation of the influences of both physical and chemical reaction properties. A detailed characterisation was performed of the test fuels' physical and reaction properties. The extinction and spray behaviours of the fuels were then evaluated in a laboratory scale combustor featuring dual-swirl geometry and a single prefilming airblast atomiser. The various experimental data sets were interpreted within the context of a theoretical model analysis. In doing so the relative performance of alternative jet fuel formulations under laboratory burner conditions were translated to predict relative real world altitude performance. This approach was validated against aforementioned industry evaluation results and demonstrated to be consistent. A technically defensible explanation was provided for the previously unexplored anomalous altitude extinction results that were observed during the industry evaluation of synthetic jet fuel. A conclusive case was made for the extinction limit differences having been caused by the relative differences in chemical ignition delays of the fuels. The probability of volatility (distillation profile) and fuel physical properties playing a significant role in the impaired altitude performance was discredited. Evaporation-controlled combustion efficiency was, however, shown to become a significant factor at low air mass flow rates or when the fuel evaporation is compromised. The influence of flame speed and chemical ignition delays were investigated. Laminar flame speed was shown not to correlate with LBO, discrediting its use as a proxy for reaction rate. The study showed a correlation between the lean blowout behaviour of jet fuels and the ignition delays associated with their derived cetane numbers. Additionally, there was substantive support indicating that an even stronger correlation could be obtained by operating the IQT™ device that is used to measure these delays at an elevated temperature. The thesis makes a contribution towards the development of both technical understanding and practical tools for evaluating the potential operating limits of alternative jet fuel formulations.

In the pass, even printing with the AM screening or FM screening, high light and shadow gradation will be effected by the different material or printing method. But growing up technology of the CTP equipment, Workflow management and RIP technical, the new screening technology will be the only solution of printing quality up, time safe and money safe. The new screening technology, not just combine the AM and FM screening, also support customize screening. Through screening dot setting, it will solve high light dot or shadow dot loss problem, when in the different print condition. But, different screening dot setting, can get different printing result. Therefore, this research is probing into the printing quality between different screening dot setting, and also find out the best setting for the offset printing. My research separate the screening dot up to nine combination (10%-70%、10%-80%、10%-90%、20%-70%、20%-80%、20%-90%、30%-70%、30%-80%、30%-90%).Using experimentation for check Tone Value Increase(TVI), soild ink density(SID), print contrast (PC)and Trapping, and smooth of vignette is judged by questionnaire. For find out the effect in the different break point. In the last analysis: compare with GRACol standard, SID, PC and Trapping all are much better when using combine screening. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors of influence of assistive technology for the disabled employment. In April, 1997, the Disabilities Protection Act issued, many funding and social security for the disabled were switched from the Social Sectors to the Labor Affairs. Under the Act, most passine support (eg. financial compensation, general training courses) were modified as a activ way, especially in the fields of disability services. They were to assist the aged and the disabled to go back to work, and also encourage them as workers and producer in their family and society. In order to raise the work efficiency of the disabled and aged, some useful assistive technologies are introduced under the Act. However, the weak situation both in body and mental of the disabled, it is very difficult to seek a suitable job for them. From this point of view, a well prepared vocational evaluation before job and a job re-design are necessary, such as shiftable or adjustable position, accessible environment, assistive appliance etc. So, the workers with disabilities then are qualified enough in the normal, competitive labor market. Also, the vocational assistive technology is useful to allow the disabled to show their potential to accommodate their jobs. This project of job re-design for the disabled employment is positively promoted by the EVTA (Employment & Vocational Training Administration), Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan, R.O.C., which is a powerful utility to help the disabled workers to solve their employment problems in direct and indirect ways. This can also assist them to overcome their vocational barriers and set their self-confidence up in job by efficiency and productivity. But, still there’re a lot of cases with failure results. In order to find the reasons out, this study will be focused on the selected cases provided by the Job Center of the EVTA in middle Taiwan. This is the first time that the assistive technologies are presented in the disabled employment and aimed to carry out their developed suggestions and as a guidance and reference to the government, when promoting projects for the disabled and aged.

This study examines public secondary school teachers technology acceptance as another form of pedagogical method in the classroom. The widely used Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to determine the factors associated with either acceptance or non-acceptance of technology in the classroom. In this study, only secondary school teachers from disadvantaged schools in one of the biggest townships in South Africa were sampled. The sample size was 271 respondents from a population of approximately 455. TAM was tested on the use of any of the Microsoft Softwares (Powerpoint, Word, Excel) in the classrooms for teaching purposes. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse the data and five hypothesis statements were tested. The results revealed fundamental determinants (e.g. perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) as primary contributors for their acceptance of technology.

The adoption of self-service technologies (SSTs) has become widespread, playing an important role in service delivery. When customers use SSTs, service failures can happen inevitably. Past studies indicated that customers’ perception of service recovery influences customer satisfaction and behavioral intentions. While research has focused on the issue of service recovery offered by the firm employees, there has been little empirical research exploring the issue of service recovery offered through technology interfaces (SST service recovery). This paper developed an empirical framework to suggest the links among TR, perceived SST service recovery quality, satisfaction and behavioral intentions. Results indicate that TR positively influences perceived SST service recovery quality, satisfaction and behavioral intentions, while perceived SST service recovery quality has a positive impact on customer satisfaction and behavioral intentions toward SSTs. Implications, limitations and future research directions are then discussed.

The emergence of technology in its many forms has intercepted the connection that the natural body once had with spatial experiences. These tangible interactions between the body and space have been replaced with technology causing the body to become de-valued and disconnected from itself and the surrounding environment. This disconnect between the body and space is felt by many people, however, the effect is compounded in women suffering from eating disorders because of a pre-existing disconnect with the body. Eating disorders are becoming much more prevalent in society. According to Health Canada,1-2% of women between the ages of 15 and 25 have anorexia, 3-5 % have bulimia, with 10-20% eventually dying of complications despite interventions (Health Canada). While many of these women will enter the recovery phase from the disorder, relapse will occur with approximately 1/3 of the women (Zerbe, 17). There are many centres that focus on the treatment of eating disorders while few focus on the aftercare that is crucial to prevent relapse. This design project will attempt to create a wellness centre focused on awareness, education and prevention of eating disorders through a strengthened connection with nature. The exploration of biophilic concepts, which are interactions with nature will foster the connection between the body and space re-developing and sustaining a body awareness that has become obsolete to the technical body in this modern world.

Anthracites are the preferred reductant for utilization in the ilmenite smelting industry mainly due to the higher fixed carbon units, lower sulphur contents and relatively lower impurities found in the mineral matter content. The primary purpose of the reductant used in the process is to affect reduction of iron oxide forms and titanium oxide forms to yield a product of a low Mn pig iron (LMPI) and a slag containing titanium dioxide and iron oxide. Industrial test work on various anthracites were undertaken to obtain a better understanding of reductant performance and their effect on process efficiency. The tests were designed to establish reductant efficiency per reductant type as a function of its petrographic characteristics, its influence on a mass and energy balance scale as applied to furnace energy algorithms and its contribution to the smelter Value In Use (VIU) total cost model. Good correlations were found to exist between the vitrinite content and reductant efficiency. Lower reductant efficiencies are associated with higher vitrinite contents. The mechanism of reductant loss, expressed as carbon efficiency, seems to be related to the shattering of anthracite when exposed to furnace freeboard conditions at approximately 1600°C in the presence of inherent and surface moisture associated with the reductant. The d50 particle sizes between the reductants were found to be very similar due to a deliberate size processing step prior to the reductant utilization. Although no good correlation was found between d50 and reductant efficiency, a fair correlation exists between the -1mm particles and reductant efficiency. A finer size fraction has a higher propensity to escape from the offgas and report to losses. A reduction in dissolved carbon in the metal for a decrease in TiO2 percentage in the slag was found to occur in all likelihood as a result of a combination of carbon losses occurring due to decrepitation and reporting to dust losses or insufficient carbon units added initially. A strong linear dependence exists between reductant ratio percentage and TiO2 percentages in the slag. A strong linear dependence exists between theoretical energy requirements for varying reductant percentages. It was found that the reductant requirements are strongly dependent on reductant fixed carbon and reductant efficiency. The carbon percentage in the metal is generally an order of magnitude higher than calculated equilibrium carbon percentage in the metal, indicating that non equilibrium conditions prevail in the metal bath. Higher carbon content and lower vitrinite content anthracites performed better on overall Value In Use model due to the following reasons:  Higher carbon efficiencies associated with lower vitrinite or rather higher inertinite contents lead to the use of lower proportions of reductants to obtain the desired chemistry in the product.  Higher carbon efficiencies were also found to require less energy to obtain final product.  Lower energy inputs lead to increasing the overall raw material feed input and ultimately increasing the final product output.  Lower treatment costs of low manganese pig iron occurred due to lower portions of reductant, less impurities (sulphur) as a result of lower mineral matter in the reductant and higher excess carbon in the low manganese pig iron product.

The subject matter of this master thesis project is work/non-work balance. The emphasis is on technology, how technology is important player in everyday struggle to achieve work – life balance. The purpose is to explore to what extent organizations and employees actually use technology and what are the consequences of such technology use on work/non-work balance. It is very important for HR departments to understand the way how technology shapes people lives in order to develop further HR policies that will help them to achieve balance between work and life of their employees. Thus, the question of this master thesis is to what extent employees perceive balance between work and non-work domains due to the availability and use of technology? The work is divided into three sections; first one is theoretical part that describes work and non-work domain, and their interface. Second section describes the methodology and results from a survey study, and last, third section contains discussion and conclusion of the results. According to the results, technology progress did change people lives in one way or another, thus, HR departments cannot neglect technology in HR policies.
O tema do projecto desta tese de mestrado é o balanço entre o trabalho e fora do trabalho. O enfâse é feito sobre a tecnologia e como a tecnologia é importante na luta do dia-a-dia para atingir balanço entra a vida pessoal e a vida profissional. O propósito está em explorar o nível extensivo que as organizações e respectivos colaboradores, actualmente, usam a tecnologia e quais são as consequências do uso da mesma para balançar o trabalho e fora do contexto de trabalho. É muito importante que os departamentos de Recursos Humanos entendam esta relação e como ela formata a vida das pessoas de modo a desenvolver novas politicas de RH que ajudarão os colaboradores a atingir balanço entre a sua vida pessoal e profissional. A principal questão que se impõe nesta pesquisa é: até que níveis os colaboradores percepcionam o balanço entre o seu trabalho e fora do contexto de trabalho, devido à possibilidade de usar a tecnologia? O trabalho está dividido em três sectores; primeiro encontra-se a teoria que descreve o trabalho e fora do contexto de trabalho e a sua interface. No segundo sector descreve-se a metodologia e os resultados do questionário e estudo. No terceiro e ultimo sector desenvolve-se a discussão e conclusão dos resultados obtidos anteriormente.
