Texte intégral
Résumé :
Most qualitative research methodology texts are addressed to individual researchers working alone, whereas the majority of qualitative research today is probably conducted by complex teams. Team-based researchers recognize the work they are doing is complicated, difficult, and differs significantly from the single researcher working on a single project, but they have lacked information on how standard practices of the field are translated into group practice, particularly in the realm of writing, which is central to all qualitative research work. Bucking that trend, this text addresses the unique methodological needs of researchers who are conducting qualitative research as part of a complex team. This book is anchored in the belief that writing on team-based qualitative research has strong overlap with, and at the same time, vast differences from the writing that is produced by the single researcher working alone. The text provides background on the reasons behind the rise in complex team research and the ways qualitative researchers have attended to this change in context. There is detailed discussion of team basics, including: team formation, research design and project organization, and important ethical issues. The issues of both methodological and substantive writing are taken up in separate chapters. The book concludes with consideration of future trends and recommendations. Written with the detailed explanations that experienced qualitative researchers will be seeking, this text also covers important basics for those new to qualitative research, making it useful for both expert and novice.

Résumé :
In many Indo-European languages, pronouns (and other clitic-like elements) tend to appear in second position or near it. This phenomenon was first described by Jakob Wackernagel, after whom the position is named the Wackernagel position (WP). This chapter describes the emergence of the WP in German where it is the third position following SpecCP and C. Since subject clitics in the WP interact phonologically and morphologically with verbs and complementizers in C, three additional syntactic features (double agreement, complementizer agreement, partial pro-drop) are associated with the WP in German (forming the so-called Wackernagel complex). The chapter surveys the evidence for the existence of the WP in OHG and, to a lesser extent, in MHG, using the additional features as diagnostics. It also contains a new explanation of how complementizer agreement could have emerged.

Résumé :
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a disease of the nervous system characterized by pain localized in an extremity. This pain is typically out of proportion to the inciting event and is accompanied by sensory disturbances, as well as motor, vasomotor, and sudomotor signs and symptoms. CRPS is a challenging clinical presentation and diagnosis. The etiology of this previously rare condition in children, is typically post-traumatic. It’s management requires a biopsychosocial approach. The principal modality that will improve pain and function in children with CRPS is physical therapy together with an interdisciplinary approach to management. The key to successful treatment involves early appropriate intervention, education for the child and family, and excellent communication between team members. This chapter uses a case study of a 12-year-old girl with CRPS to illustrate these concepts.

Résumé :
Acute exacerbation of an ongoing chronic pain can be a diagnostic and clinical dilemma. Chronic pain in children requires an interdisciplinary approach to assessment and treatment. Further, the child must commit to taking an active role in therapy. When this approach is not working, or there is an acute trauma to the affected region, children with chronic pain may present to the emergency department with extreme pain. Acute care health professionals may find themselves unable to modify the pain intensity with standard analgesic medications. The analgesic approach requires careful clinical management and liaison with the chronic pain team supervising the ongoing management of pain.

Résumé :
Nearly all behavioral traits, ranging from personality traits such as neuroticism to schizophrenia and autism, are genetically influenced. With only minor exceptions, all are genetically complex—meaning that inheritance is not simply dominant or recessive or sex-linked, but follows more complex patterns indicative of more complex mechanisms. Most risk variants identified to date have only small effects on risk, and, in most cases, many risk variants at many risk loci interact with environmental factors to produce the phenotype. Such complexity has led to great challenges in increasing our knowledge of the inheritance of behavioral traits. Recent methodological advances have provided an improved set of tools that has led to advances in our understanding of the genetic influences on a range of behavioral traits. This chapter examines some of the issues involved that tend to make this a difficult problem and some of the solutions now being employed to approach those problems.

Résumé :
The complexity of acute cardiac care today makes it necessary that patients are looked after by more than one health care professional. Complex tasks require complex systems. Teamwork is essential for minimizing adverse events caused by miscommunication and misunderstanding about roles and responsibilities, and it can have an immediate and positive impact on the patient. The increasing complexity and specialization of care of the cardiac patient in the acute setting make it necessary to coordinate teams of doctors for each specialty area. Multidisciplinary decision making optimizes care and is mandatory in light of evolving options and improvement of quality of care and will lead to more efficiency.

Résumé :
The growth and application of teams in organizations have left decision makers, Human Resources professionals, and hiring managers with the difficult and complex task of how to best hire individuals that will thrive in a team-based environment. When paired with the unique challenges surrounding what is required to develop and implement novel ideas, hiring for innovative team members becomes an even more daunting task. In this chapter, we highlight key challenges to recognize when hiring for team innovation and offer solutions, when available, to meet these challenges. We conclude with recommendations on developing a broader strategy for team-based innovation selection with particular emphasis on selecting for functional diversity as a means to achieve the flexibility and agility needed for current and future innovative efforts.

Résumé :
Creativity and innovation have been viewed by researchers and practitioners as critical to organizational success and survival. In recent years, research in organizational psychology and management has focused on understanding creativity and innovation in teams. The more recent attention to teams has occurred because many of the problems facing organizations are complex and cannot be solved by a single individual, and these problems require creative and innovative solutions. Recent research in particular has focused on team creativity as an outcome and sought to understand how teams collaborate to solve problems creatively and introduce innovation, as well as the factors that facilitate and hinder those. The purpose of this edited book is to provide a state-of-the-art review of the major concepts and current research related to team creativity and innovation. The book has four different sections: (1) an introduction to team creativity and innovation, (2) team processes, (3) organizational and level issues, and (4) applications related to team creativity and innovation.

Résumé :
Multidisciplinary care is established as the optimal model of clinical treatment of patients with cancer. As cancer treatment becomes increasingly complex, it is obvious that no one individual can maintain knowledge and skills across all domains of care. This means that a collaborative approach is required to ensure that expertise is available to assist in decision-making and planning of treatment, which is evidence-based and focused on the needs of the individual patient, taking into account their social and family context. This chapter describes the benefits of treatment by a multidisciplinary team including a description of the characteristics of well-functioning teams. Information is provided about adverse impacts on patient outcomes if there is poor communication within the multidisciplinary team. Evidence about strategies to improve communication within the multidisciplinary team is presented, supported by practical exercises to apply learning into the clinical setting.
