Résumé :
To gain an overview of the various structure reports on RSi2 and R 2 TSi3 compounds (R is a member of the Sc group, an alkaline earth, lanthanide or actinide metal, T is a transition metal), compositions, lattice parameters a and c, ratios c/a, formula units per unit cell, and structure types are summarized in extensive tables and the variations of these properties when varying the R or T elements are analyzed. Following the structural systematization given in Part I, Part II focuses on revealing the driving factors for certain structure types, in particular, the electronic structure. Here, concepts of different complexity are presented, including molecular orbital theory, the principle of hard and soft acids and bases, and a Bader analysis based on Density Functional Theory calculations for representatives of the reported structure types. The potential Si/T ordering in different structures is discussed. Additionally, the influences from intrinsic and extrinsic properties (e.g. elemental size and electronics as well as lattice parameters and structure type) are investigated on each other using correlation plots. Thermal treatment is identified as an important factor for the ordering of Si/T atoms.

Résumé :
The electronic band structure, metallization, structural phase transition, and superconductivity of cubic zinc blende type GaAs and InAs are investigated. The equilibrium lattice constant, bulk modulus, and the phase transition pressure at which the compounds undergo structural phase transition from ZnS to NaCl are predicted from the total energy calculations. The density of states at the Fermi level (N(E F )) get enhanced after metallization, which leads to the superconductivity in GaAs and InAs . The superconducting transition temperatures (T c ) of GaAs and InAs are obtained as a function of pressure for both the ZnS and NaCl structures. GaAs and InAs come under the class of pressure-induced superconductors. When pressure is increased T c increases in both the normal and high pressure-structures. The dependence of T c on electron–phonon mass enhancement factor λ shows that GaAs and InAs are electron–phonon-mediated superconductors. Also, it is found that GaAs and InAs retained in their normal structure under high pressure give appreciably high T c .

Résumé :
Historically, the study of modules over finite dimensional algebras has started with the study of the ones with finite dimension. This is sufficient when dealing with a finite dimensional algebra of finite representation type, where there are only finitely many indecomposable modules of finite length. Indecomposable modules of infinite length occur when dealing with algebras of infinite representation type and the study of pure-injective modules over a finite dimensional algebra is crucial for the problem of describing infinite dimensional modules. In this talk, we consider a specific class of finite dimensional algebras of infinite representation type, called "tubular algebras". Pure-injective modules over tubular algebra have been partially classified by Angeleri Hügel and Kussin, in 2016, and we want to give a contribution to the classification of the ones of "irrational slope". In this talk, first, via a derived equivalence, we move to a more geometrical framework, ie. we work in the category of quasi-coherent sheaves over a tubular curve, and we approach our classification problem from the point of view of tilting/cotilting theory. More precisely, we consider specific torsion pairs cogenerated by infinite dimensional cotilting sheaves and we study the Happel-Reiten-Smalø heart of the corresponding t-structure in the derived category. These hearts are locally coherent Grothendieck categories and, in these categories, the pure-injective sheaves over the tubular curve become injective objects. In order to study injective objects in a Grothendieck category is fundamental the classification of the simple objects. In the seminar, we use some techniques coming from continued fractions and universal extensions to provide a method to construct an infinite dimensional sheaf of a prescribed irrational slope that becomes simple in the Grothendieck category given as the heart of a precise t-structure.

Visual Odometry is the process that estimates camera position and orientation based solely on images and in features (projections of visual landmarks present in the scene) extraced from them. With the increasing advance of Computer Vision algorithms and computer processing power, the subarea known as Structure from Motion (SFM) started to supply mathematical tools composing localization systems for robotics and Augmented Reality applications, in contrast with its initial purpose of being used in inherently offline solutions aiming 3D reconstruction and image based modelling. In that way, this work proposes a pipeline to obtain relative position featuring a previously calibrated camera as positional sensor and based entirely on models and algorithms from SFM. Techniques usually applied in camera localization systems such as Kalman filters and particle filters are not used, making unnecessary additional information like probabilistic models for camera state transition. Experiments assessing both 3D reconstruction quality and camera position estimated by the system were performed, in which image sequences captured in reallistic scenarios were processed and compared to localization data gathered from a mobile robotic platform

p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ is a member of the Src-family of tyrosine protein kinases which is abundantly expressed in T lymphocytes. Increasing evidence indicates that p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ participates in T-cell receptor-mediated signalling. Firstly, this enzyme is physically associated with the CD4 and CD8 T-cell surface glycoproteins. CD4 and CD8 are respectively involved in the recognition of major histocompatibility complex class II and class I, that are expressed on antigen presenting cells. Secondly, expression of activated p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ polypeptides in CD4- and CD8-negative T cells has been documented to enhance antigen-induced T-cell responsiveness. To understand the mechanism(s) by which p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ participates in this process, the effects of mutations in known regulatory domains of p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ on the ability of activated p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ to enhance antigen-induced T-cell responses have been examined. Our results indicate that p56$ sp{ rm lck}$ regulates T-cell antigen receptor signalling through a complex process requiring multiple distinct structural domains of the enzyme.

Résumé :
Air-water experiments were carried out in a horizontal 1″ pipe system to measure the magnitude of the forces induced by the multiphase flow. Forces and accelerations were measured on a number of bends and T-joint configurations for a wide range of operating conditions. Five different configurations were measured: a baseline case consisting of straight pipe only, a sharp edged bend, a large radius bend, a symmetric T-joint and a T-joint with one of the arms closed off. The gas flow was varied from a superficial velocity of 0.1 to 30 m/s and the liquid flow was varied from 0.05 to 2 m/s. This operating range ensures that the experiment encompasses all possible flow regimes. In general, the slug velocity and frequency presented a reasonable agreement with classical models. However, for high mixture velocity the measured frequency deviated from literature models. The magnitude of the measured forces was found to vary over a wide range depending on the flow regime. For slug flow conditions very high force levels were measured, up to 4 orders of magnitude higher than in single phase flow for comparable velocities. The annular flow regime resulted in the (relative) lowest forces, although the absolute amplitude is of the same order as in the case of slug flow. These results from a one inch pipe were compared to data obtained previously from similar experiments on a 6mm setup, to evaluate the scaling effects. The results for the one inch rig experiments agreed with the model proposed by Riverin, with the same scaling factor. A modification of this scaling factor is needed for the model to predict the forces measured on the 6mm rig. The validity of the theories developed based on the 6mm experiments were tested for validity at larger scales. In case of slug flow, the measured results can be described assuming a simple slug unit model. In annular and stratified flow a different model is required, since no slug unit is present. Instead, excitation force can be estimated using mixture properties. This mixture approach also describes the forces for the slug regime relatively well. Only the single phase flow is not described properly with this mixture model, as would be expected.

Résumé :
This technical report documents the second of a two-phase research and development (R&D) study in support of the development of a combined Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology that accommodates geotechnical as well as structural design limit states for design of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reinforced concrete, hydraulic navigation structures. To this end, this R&D effort extends reliability procedures that have been developed for other non-USACE structural systems to encompass USACE hydraulic structures. Many of these reinforced concrete, hydraulic structures are founded on and/or retain earth or are buttressed by an earthen feature. Consequently, the design of many of these hydraulic structures involves significant soil structure interaction. Development of the required reliability and corresponding LRFD procedures has been lagging in the geotechnical topic area as compared to those for structural limit state considerations and have therefore been the focus of this second-phase R&D effort. Design of an example T-Wall hydraulic structure involves consideration of five geotechnical and structural limit states. New numerical procedures have been developed for precise multiple limit state reliability calculations and for complete LRFD analysis of this example T-Wall reinforced concrete, hydraulic structure.

Tzfira, Tzvi, Michael Elbaum et Sharon Wolf. DNA transfer by Agrobacterium : a cooperative interaction of ssDNA, virulence proteins, and plant host factors. United States Department of Agriculture, décembre 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2005.7695881.bard.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Agrobacteriumtumefaciensmediates genetic transformation of plants. The possibility of exchanging the natural genes for other DNA has led to Agrobacterium’s emergence as the primary vector for genetic modification of plants. The similarity among eukaryotic mechanisms of nuclear import also suggests use of its active elements as media for non-viral genetic therapy in animals. These considerations motivate the present study of the process that carries DNA of bacterial origin into the host nucleus. The infective pathway of Agrobacterium involves excision of a single-stranded DNA molecule (T-strand) from the bacterial tumor-inducing plasmid. This transferred DNA (T-DNA) travels to the host cell cytoplasm along with two virulence proteins, VirD2 and VirE2, through a specific bacteriumplant channel(s). Little is known about the precise structure and composition of the resulting complex within the host cell and even less is known about the mechanism of its nuclear import and integration into the host cell genome. In the present proposal we combined the expertise of the US and Israeli labs and revealed many of the biophysical and biological properties of the genetic transformation process, thus enhancing our understanding of the processes leading to nuclear import and integration of the Agrobacterium T-DNA. Specifically, we sought to: I. Elucidate the interaction of the T-strand with its chaperones. II. Analyzing the three-dimensional structure of the T-complex and its chaperones in vitro. III. Analyze kinetics of T-complex formation and T-complex nuclear import. During the past three years we accomplished our goals and made the following major discoveries: (1) Resolved the VirE2-ssDNA three-dimensional structure. (2) Characterized VirE2-ssDNA assembly and aggregation, along with regulation by VirE1. (3) Studied VirE2-ssDNA nuclear import by electron tomography. (4) Showed that T-DNA integrates via double-stranded (ds) intermediates. (5) Identified that Arabidopsis Ku80 interacts with dsT-DNA intermediates and is essential for T-DNA integration. (6) Found a role of targeted proteolysis in T-DNA uncoating. Our research provide significant physical, molecular, and structural insights into the Tcomplex structure and composition, the effect of host receptors on its nuclear import, the mechanism of T-DNA nuclear import, proteolysis and integration in host cells. Understanding the mechanical and molecular basis for T-DNA nuclear import and integration is an essential key for the development of new strategies for genetic transformation of recalcitrant plant species. Thus, the knowledge gained in this study can potentially be applied to enhance the transformation process by interfering with key steps of the transformation process (i.e. nuclear import, proteolysis and integration). Finally, in addition to the study of Agrobacterium-host interaction, our research also revealed some fundamental insights into basic cellular mechanisms of nuclear import, targeted proteolysis, protein-DNA interactions and DNA repair.

Résumé :
Very recently, the tableau-based algorithm for deciding consistency of general fuzzy DL ontologies over the product t-norm was shown to be incorrect, due to a very weak blocking condition. In this report we take the first steps towards a correct algorithm by modifying the blocking condition, such that the (finite) structure obtained through the algorithm uniquely describes an infinite system of quadratic constraints. We show that this procedure terminates, and is sound and complete in the sense that the input is consistent iff the corresponding infinite system of constraints is satisfiable.
