Résumé :
The self-synchronization characteristics of the two excited motors for the nonlinear vibration system with the asymmetrical hysteresis have been proposed in the exceptional circumstances of cutting off the power supply of one of the two excited motors. From the point of view of the hysteretic characteristics with the asymmetry, a class of nonlinear dynamic model of the self-synchronous vibrating system is presented for the analysis of the hysteretic characteristics of the soil, which is induced by the relation between the stress and the strain in the soil. The periodic solutions for the self-synchronous system with the asymmetrical hysteresis are investigated using nonlinear asymptotic method. The synchronization condition for the self-synchronous vibrating pile system with the asymmetrical hysteresis is theoretical analyzed using the rotor–rotation equations of the two excited motors. The synchronization stability condition also is theoretical analyzed using Jacobi matrix of the phase difference equation of the two excited motors. Using Matlab/Simlink, the synchronous operation of the two excited motors and the synchronous stability operation of the self-synchronous system with the asymmetrical hysteresis are analyzed through the selected parameters. Various synchronous phenomena are obtained through the difference rates of the two excited motors, including the different initial phase and the different initial angular velocity, and so on. Especially, when there is a certain difference in the two excited motors, the synchronous operation of the two excited motors and the synchronous stability operation of the self-synchronous vibrating system with the asymmetrical hysteresis can still be achieved after the power supply of one of the two excited motors has been disconnected. It has been shown that the research results can provide a theoretical basis for the research of the vibration synchronization theory.

Résumé :
The hysteresis motor is a well-known synchronous motor that is used in special small power, high speed applications. Dynamic modeling and analysis of this motor is more complicated than permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) or induction motors (IMs) due to nonlinear behavior of rotor magnetic material. Short over-excitation is a unique phenomenon that only occurs in hysteresis motor in which the terminal voltage increase at synchronous speed for a short duration, and then continuously is decrease to initial value. Therefore, the input current is reduced, this leads to more power factor and efficiency enhancement. Till now, there isn’t any analytic dynamic model of this phenomenon. In this paper, based on a novel dynamic model of hysteresis motor, the over-excitation phenomenon is investigated and transient performance of the motor during over-excitation is simulated via Simulink.

Résumé :
To investigate the mechanism of self-bias magnetoelectric effect in magnetoelectric composite materials, a synchronous characterization technique was developed to characterize the magnetoelectric effect, the magnetostrictive effect, and the magnetic hysteresis loop by one-time test. The results of a magnetoelectric composite consisting of hybrid ferromagnetic phases showed that the obvious magnetoelectric hysteresis behavior was found with significant self-bias magnetoelectric effect. In addition, after demagnetizing, the residual magnetic polarization became zero and the magnetoelectric effect disappeared at the same time. Since the ferromagnetic phases were separated from each other, the mechanism of self-bias magnetoelectric effect mainly resulted from static magnetic coupling instead of build-in magnetic field. It was concluded that the synchronous characterizing technique was quite helpful when analyzing the mechanism of magnetoelectric behavior.

Résumé :
Hysteresis motor and clutches have several advantages, such as constant torque from zero to synchronous speed, low torque ripple, and low fabrication cost. Low efficiency and power factor are the main features that have limited the application of this type of electrical machine to few applications. Being a niche argument, little literature has addressed the problem of analytical and finite element (FE) modelling of hysteresis electrical machines. This paper first describes the most important contributions of the literature on the analytical and FE modelling of hysteresis motors and clutches and then proposes a method for the fast computation of its performance. The proposed procedure consists of two steps: first, a magneto-static FE simulation is performed considering the normal magnetization curve of the hysteresis material; then, the average torque is computed by a post-processing analysis. The proposed method is used to analyze a hysteresis clutch and the obtained results are compared with those achieved using a commercial finite element software that implements a vector hysteresis model.

Résumé :
Purpose. This article proposes a new strategy for Direct Power Control (DPC) based on the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN-DPC). The proposed ANN-DPC scheme is based on the replacement of PI and hysteresis regulators by neural regulators. Simulation results for a 1 kW system are provided to demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of the proposed control strategy during variations in active and reactive power and in DC bus voltage. Methodology. Our strategy is based on direct control of instant active and reactive powers. The voltage regulator and hysteresis are replaced by more efficient and robust artificial neuron networks. The proposed control technique strategy is validated using MATLAB / Simulink software to analysis the working performances. Results. The results obtained clearly show that neuronal regulators have good dynamic performances compared to conventional regulators (minimum response time, without overshoots). Originality. Regulation of continuous bus voltage and sinusoidal currents on the network side by using artificial neuron networks. Practical value. The work concerns the comparative study and the application of DPC based on ANN techniques to achieve a good performance control system of the permanent magnet synchronous generator. This article presents a comparative study between the conventional DPC control and the ANN-DPC control. The first strategy based on the use of a PI controller for the control of the continuous bus voltage and hysteresis regulators for the instantaneous powers control. In the second technique, the PI and hysteresis regulators are replaced by more efficient neuronal controllers more robust for the system parameters variation. The study is validated by the simulation results based on MATLAB / Simulink software.

Résumé :
Studies on the seepage characteristics of water-sand cracks are of great significance to reveal the mechanisms of water and sand inrush. Using a self-made water-sand fracture seepage test instrument, a water-sand seepage test was carried out, and the permeability of water and sand in the fracture was determined. The hysteresis characteristics of water-sand flow in the fracture were obtained after the required permeability was attained. The results show that the hysteresis curve changes from type I to type IV with the increase in sand particle size and concentration. The hysteresis parameters are described by the maximum hysteresis Gp ∗ and the hysteresis area S, both of which show an increasing trend with the increase in sand particle size and concentration; however, this increase is not synchronous. The average velocity and turbulent kinetic energy distribution of the water-sand fluid on the fracture cross section are greatly affected by the particle size and concentration of the volume of sand. This study can provide a reference for further study of water inrush from a shallow coal seam. Through simulation, it is found that the particle size has a great influence on the seepage velocity, and the influence near the side wall surface is greater than that in the middle position.

Résumé :
This paper investigates the enhancement in voltage stability achieved while connecting a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) driven electrically excited synchronous generator (EESG) into power systems. The wind energy conversion system (WECS) uses an AC-DC-AC converter system with an uncontrolled rectifier, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controlled dc-dc boost converter and adaptive hysteresis controlled voltage source converter (VSC). The MPPT controller senses the rectified voltage (VDC) and traces the maximum power point to effectively maximize the output power. With MPPT and adaptive hysteresis band current control in VSC, the DC link voltage is maintained constant under variable wind speeds and transient grid currents. The effectiveness of the proposed WECS in enhancing voltage stability is analysed on a standard IEEE 5 bus system, which includes examining the voltage magnitude, voltage collapse and reactive power injected by the systems. Simulation results show that the proposed WECS has the potential to improve the long-term voltage stability of the grid by injecting reactive power. The performance of this scheme is compared with a fixed speed squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG), a variable speed doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) and a variable speed permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG).

Harmonic vibration synchronization of the two excited motors is an important factor affecting the performance of the nonlinear vibration system driven by the two excited motors. From the point of view of the hysteresis force, the nonlinear dynamic models of the nonlinear vibration system driven by the two excited motors are presented for the analysis of the hysteresis force with the asymmetry. An approximate periodic solution for the nonlinear vibration system with the hysteresis force is investigated using the nonlinear models. Résumé :
In direct torque controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor drives, when the rotor speed or the load torque changes, the effect of a certain voltage vector on the torque also changes. In heavy-load or high-speed operating conditions, the torque may lose control. This paper presents an intensive investigation into this issue. With the help of relevant derivative curves, the primary cause for the losing control problem is analysed. Further study reveals that the effect of a certain voltage vector on the load angle is no relevant for the load conditions. Based on this property, by replacing the torque hysteresis comparator with a load angle hysteresis comparator, a modified direct torque control called the load-angle-feedback direct torque control is proposed and the original superiorities of the direct torque control are well preserved. Comparison between the direct torque control and the proposed method shows that the load capacity and speed operation range may be obviously extended by utilizing the proposed method.

Résumé :
Vector Control with Optimal Torque of a Salient-Pole Double Star Synchronous Machine Supplied by Three-Level InvertersThis work relates to the study of the vector control of the salient-pole double star synchronous machine drive (DSSM) fed by three-level inverters which are controlled by PWM hysteresis strategy. Indeed, it is a question of carrying out a decoupling between rotor flux and electromagnetic torque, by introducing a vector control with an optimal torque working and by imposing constant flux regime. Furthermore, to ensure a decoupled dynamic behavior of the machine as in the case of a DC machine, a regulation of the rotor current has been introduced through a chopper operating at 5 kHz chopping frequency, feeding the excitation circuit. The obtained results are very satisfactory and reveal the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Résumé :
Pulse wave transit time (PWTT) shortens as pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) increases and was therefore suggested as a surrogate parameter for PAP. The aim of this analysis was to reveal patterns and potential mechanisms of ventilation-induced periodic changes in PWTT under resting conditions. To measure both PWTT and PAP in five healthy pigs, two pulmonary artery Mikro-Tip™ catheters were inserted into the pulmonary vasculature: one with the tip placed in the pulmonary artery trunk, and a second one placed in a distal segment of the pulmonary artery. Animals received pressure-controlled mechanical ventilation. Ventilation-dependent changes were seen in both variables, PWTT and mean PAP; however, changes in PWTT were not synchronous with changes in PAP. Thus, plotting the value of PWTT for each heartbeat over the respective PAP revealed a characteristic hysteresis. At the beginning of inspiration, PAP rose while PWTT remained constant. During further inspiration, PWTT started to decrease rapidly as mPAP was about to reach its plateau. The same time course was observed during expiration: while mPAP approached its minimum, PWTT increased rapidly. During apnea this hysteresis disappeared. Thus, non-synchronous ventilation-induced changes in PWTT and PAP were found with inspiration causing a significant shortening of PWTT. Therefore, it is suggested that the respiratory cycle should be considered when using PWTT as a surrogate for PAP.

Résumé :
This paper discusses a novel analysis scheme based on the hybrid interface of Optical USB and Power Quality Meter for measuring Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) that exists in the Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) system and connected load. The designed hybrid interface experimentally analyzes the power quality and harmonics of the Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system, and mitigation is proposed with the proposed Single-Phase Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) based on instantaneous Power Theory (PQ) with hysteresis control technique and synchronous frame reference (DQ) with hysteresis control techniques at nonlinear load. This study authenticates and gives appropriate measurements in analyzing the harmonics and voltage distortion during conversion of power. The designed work offers the compensation and elimination of harmonic currents using PQ and DQ theory at different nonlinear loads. The proposed HAPF for the UPS system has demonstrated the significant reduction in THD using proposed Power Theory (PQ) with hysteresis control technique from 46.58% to 1.51% and by using DQ theory with hysteresis control technique has reduced THD from 46.58% to 1.38%. Finally, the results are compared between PQ and DQ. It is validated via results that DQ theory eliminated harmonics and also having less THD as compared to PQ-theory. Furthermore, one of the key aspects of the work is the analysis of power quality using Optical USB Interface (OC4USB) and FLUKE series power quality analyzer.

Résumé :
In traditional Chinese timber structures, few tie beams were used between columns, and the column base was placed directly on a stone base. In order to study the hysteretic behavior of such structures, a full-scale model was established. The model size was determined according to the requirements of an eighth grade material system specified in the architectural treatise Ying-zao-fa-shi written during the Song Dynasty. In light of the vertical lift and drop of the test model during horizontal reciprocating motions, the horizontal low-cycle reciprocating loading experiments were conducted using a synchronous loading technique. By analyzing the load-displacement hysteresis curves, envelope curves, deformation capacity, energy dissipation, and change in stiffness under different vertical loads, it is found that the timber frame exhibits obvious signs of self-restoring and favorable plastic deformation capacity. As the horizontal displacement increases, the equivalent viscous damping coefficient generally declines first and then increases. At the same time, the stiffness degrades rapidly first and then decreases slowly. Increasing vertical loading will improve the deformation, energy-dissipation capacity, and stiffness of the timber frame.

Résumé :
Abstract The paper deals with cooperation between pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier and variable speed synchronous generator which is applied especially in small water or wind plants. In such applications, the synchronous generator, which is usually permanent magnet (PM) generator, rotates at a variable speed which depends on water or wind energy. Therefore, this energy should be converted to the parameters of the three-phase power grid with the use of a power electronic unit. The main aim of the control strategy is to transfer a maximum possible amount of energy produced by the water turbine or the wind turbine connected to a synchronous generator. The second purpose of the control method is to decrease the amount of higher harmonics of generator currents. The paper describes two basic methods which are used in control systems of the PWM rectifiers. The first one is the sinusoidal PWM method, and the second method relates to the hysteresis switching of the PWM rectifier transistors. A significant part of the paper is devoted to control principles of the PWM rectifier which cooperates with a variable speed PM synchronous generator. Special attention is paid to higher harmonics of PM generator currents with respect to individual methods.

Résumé :
An echo state network (ESN) for extended state observer (ESO) and sliding mode control (SMC) of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in an electric vehicle system is investigated in this paper. For the PMSM model, most researches neglect the hysteresis loss and other nonlinear factors, which reduces the accuracy of the PMSM model. We present a modified PMSM model considering the hysteresis loss and then transform the new PMSM model to a canonical form to simplify the controller design. In order to deal with the hysteresis loss, an ESN is utilized to estimate the nonlinearity. Considering that some states cannot be directly obtained, an ESO with ESN is proposed to estimate unknown system states of the electric vehicle PMSM system. Afterwards, an SMC is adopted to control the closed-loop system based on the ESO with ESN, and a double hyperbolic function instead of the sign function is used to suppress the chattering of the SMC. The stabilities of the observer and the controller are all guaranteed by Lyapunov functions. Finally, simulations are presented to verify the validity of the echo state network for extended state observer and the neural network sliding mode control.

Résumé :
Abstract A fast hysteresis current-controlled (HCC) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive based on field orientation is presented. The objectives of this research are to develop and utilize HCC algorithm for field orientation control (FOC) of a complete closed loop speed-controlled PMSM drive system, optimize the HCC algorithm to obtain fast speed response with step and ramp speed inputs to examine the effectiveness of current and torque tracking, identify the optimal control variables of the HCC on the PMSM, examine the performance with ramp and step reference speed inputs. The response of the developed model is compared with the speed response of the standard AC6 of MATLAB Simpower systems in terms of rise time, settling time and effectiveness of current and torque tracking. Compared to the standard AC6 of MATLAB Simpower systems, the developed model achieved rise time and settling time of 0.0108 seconds and 0.0143 seconds respectively while the corresponding values for AC6 model are 0.1944 seconds and 0.1984 seconds respectively. The developed model, therefore, offered superior performance over the AC6 model in terms of rise time, settling time and tracking capability.

Résumé :
Backstepping/DTC control of a double star synchronous machine driveDirect torque control (DTC) allows for very high quality torque control without a need for current controllers tuning or using coordinate transformation. However, barge torque ripples arise as well as inconstant inverter switching frequency due to the hysteresis of comparators. This paper present a backstepping/DTC control based on the space vector modulation (SVPWM) for double star synchronous machine (DSSM) to reduce the torque, flux, current and speed pulsations during steady state. By the coordinate transformation the DSSM models are presented in view of control. Then a conventional DTC is developed to get a decoupled system and a PI controller is designed to control the speed. To improve the static and dynamic control performance of the DSSM, the speed controller is designed using a backstepping/DTC procedure in conjunction with SVPWM. Simulation results with the conventional DTC and proposed backstepping/DTC are presented and compared. Results show the effectiveness and the robustness of the approach proposed.

Résumé :
Purpose In this paper, a new structure for the permanent magnet hysteresis synchronous (PMHS) motor is introduced. Moreover, this paper aims to presents a new analytical method for modeling of a disc-type PMHS motor. Design/methodology/approach Because the hysteresis and permanent magnet motors have unique characteristics, a motor (the PMHS motor) with excellent performance features can be achieved by combining them. Choosing a disc-type slotless structure causes the major advantages of both motors to be preserved in the new motor. To analyze PMHS motor, mathematical equations are obtained by using Ampere’s circuital law, flux continuity law and Faraday’s law. Then the air-gap voltage and exciting current of the motor can be calculated. To implement this method, a new iterative algorithm is proposed. This algorithm consists of one-iteration loop for each input voltage to find the maximum flux density of the operational hysteresis loop of the motor. Findings Validity of the analytical approach is confirmed by experimental results. A reasonably close agreement between the two is shown and some outstanding performances of the PMHS motor are demonstrated. Originality/value A new structure for PMHS motor and also a new analytical method for performance prediction of this motor is presented.

Résumé :
Model predictive current control (MPCC) has recently become a powerful advanced control technology in industrial drives. However, current prediction in MPCC requires a high number of voltage vectors (VVs) synthesizable by the converter, thus being computationally demanding. Accordingly, in this paper, a computationally efficient MPCC of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs) that reduces the number of VVs used for prediction is proposed. By making the most of the simplicity of hysteresis current control (HCC) and integrating it with the MPCC scheme, only four out of eight predictions are needed to determine the best VV, dramatically reducing algorithm computations. The experimental results show that the execution time can be shortened by 20% while maintaining the highest control efficiency.
