Résumé :
Large-scale change is not possible without aligning individual and collective values, wisdom, and commitment to the architecture needed to support ethical practice. The process required for designing a system that supports ethical practice on a moment-to-moment basis involves synergistic operational strategies. These include personal transformational learning, information for decision-making, supporting principled change-makers and risk-takers, and creating an enabling work environment. Transformational design and action involve using practices, techniques, and methods that source inner capacity at every step of planning and implementation and embodying foundational values. Transformational design leverages key elements of co-creating new patterns, developing new norms and systems for sustainable change, transcending disempowering patterns, and creating a new narrative.

Résumé :
Disability is created, measured, and supported through material culture. Technology, a kind of material culture, has an especially close relationship with disability in that it both supports daily activities and is often a primary element in defining who is of worth or qualifies as human. Some of the unique and complicated ways in which disability and material culture interact and intersect are presented here, highlighting such things as sensory and nonverbal information, material expression of inclusion and accessibility, definitions of technology, the prevalence of do-it-yourself solutions, and ideologies of assistance and independence. Also discussed is the use of two broad functions of technology, objects of activity and objects of worth, as an entry point into critical disability studies analysis.

Braxton, Gordon. Empowering Black Boys to Challenge Rape Culture. Oxford University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780197571675.001.0001.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Gordon Braxton was in his third year of college before anybody bothered to speak to him about sexual violence, this despite the fact that he already knew friends and family members who had survived a sexual assault. Gordon now knows that he was not alone, as his talks with boys are often the first and only opportunities that they have to discuss their views on sexual violence and what role they might play in preventing it. These isolated conversations are not enough to change an entire culture. This book supports the training of a rising generation by providing commentary from an experienced educator, an overview of existing research and preventive techniques, and insight into young men’s perspectives on violence. The resultant crash course on violence prevention is the first to focus on Black boys and to be written by a Black male author. The most important lesson that boys have to learn is that they have an essential role to play in preventing sexual violence. So many of them accept this violence as beyond their control when they could be valuable agents of change. More and more parents and mentors of boys are coming to address sexual violence as a cultural problem rather than representing the activities of isolated social deviants. Empowering Black Boys to Challenge Rape Culture stands to help America as it comes to the realization that sexual violence can be prevented and that a rising generation of boys will play a part in realizing a nonviolent future.

Résumé :
While technology, globalization, and litigation have brought remarkable changes, many good, there are negative consequences as well. Changes in the psychological contract driven by these three forces have created a climate of organizational risk and security vulnerability. This is particularly the case in the world of information technology, in which “knowledge entrepreneurs” prioritize their own security and career over loyalty to the company. Globalization challenges the closeness necessary to build loyalty. Feelings go underground and managers may be unaware of the estranged and resentful employee on the path to committing fraud or sabotage. Because of sensitivity to litigation, employees’ behavior may not be observed or documented. If management is not alert and responsive to the changes taking place in the culture, the work environment may slowly evolve into one that supports behavior and attitudes that are both damaging to the employees and dangerous for the organization.

O'Neill, Megan. Police Community Support Officers. Oxford University Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198803676.001.0001.

Résumé :
Police Community Support Officers: Cultures and Identities within Pluralized Policing presents the first in-depth ethnographic study of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) since the creation of the role in 2002. Situated within the tradition of police ethnographies, this text examines the working worlds of uniformed patrol support staff in two English police forces. Based on over 350 hours of direct observation and thirty-three interviews with PCSOs and police constables in both urban and rural contexts, the book offers a detailed analysis of the operational and cultural realities of pluralized policing from within. Using a dramaturgic framework, the author finds that PCSOs have been undermined by their own organizations from the beginning, which has left a lasting legacy in terms of their relationships and interactions with police officer colleagues. The implications of this for police cultures, community policing approaches, and the success of pluralization are examined. The author argues that while PCSOs can have similar occupational experiences to those of constables, their particular circumstances have led to a unique occupational culture, one which has implications for existing police culture theories. The book considers these findings in light of budget reductions and police reforms occurring across the sector, processes in which PCSOs are particularly vulnerable.

Janza, Janes. Politics of Fake It ! Sous la direction de Rebekah J. Kowal, Gerald Siegmund et Randy Martin. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199928187.013.32.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The interview of Janez Janša by Janez Janša elaborates on the economy of culture based on the performance Fake it! from 2007, which is described as a translation of seminal choreographies, in contrast to re-enactments or reconstructions. The re-enactment does not render an inherently ephemeral work present, but it underlines its absence. Thus a re-enactment performs the impossibility of being in another place/time; and that is its basic political impact. The choreographies chosen to be performed in Fake it! function as performatives in the Austian sense: by performing them, the economy of their absence and the cultural policy, which supports their absence, are performed. The choreographies in Fake it! are socialized; they became a public good and strengthen the embedding of dance in culture.
