Résumé :
We first give a proof that the supersymmetric configurations satisfy the equations of motion for type II supergravity. In flux compactifications, the string vacua preserving N = 2 supersymmetry are the twisted generalized Calabi–Yau manifold. The modulus space of the string vacua can be constructed. We discuss the generalized Dirac operator which adds a torsional term to the ordinary Dirac operator and compute its index by the path integral method. Via the variation of the action of supergravity one can introduce the generalized Ricci flow equations. We consider deforming the manifold with the generalized Ricci flow. Finally, we consider the linear stability of the fixed points of the generalized Ricci flow.

Résumé :
Abstract We use exceptional field theory to systematically study all possible consistent truncations around any M-theory half-maximal vacua of the warped product form AdS5 × M 3 × S 2 × S 1, with M 3 a three-dimensional manifold. We show that, for any of these vacua, only truncations with at most three vector multiplets are consistent. Furthermore, the possible gaugings are restricted to be either SU(2) × U(1) or ISO(3) × U(1) where, in the first case, the U(1) factor can have different embeddings inside the global symmetry group SO(5, n), where n ⩽ 3 equals the number of vector multiplets. This rules out the possibility of any other gauging arising as a consistent truncation around the aforementioned M-theory vacua. Our analysis shows that of the many flows from half-maximal to quarter-maximal AdS5 vacua constructed in five-dimensional supergravity in Bobev (2018 J. High Energy Phys. 6 86), only those corresponding to an adjoint mass deformation in the dual SCFT can be uplifted to 11-dimensional supergravity. The other flows are five-dimensional artefacts without a higher-dimensional origin. Furthermore, consistent truncations with vector multiplets exist only if the vacuum satisfies certain conditions, which we derive.

We first give a review of the geometrical techniques (in particular G-structures and Generalized Complex Geometry) that are currently used in the study of supersymmetric N=1 compactifications. Then we focus on the study of type IIB compactifications to four dimensional Anti de Sitter vacua with N=1 supersymmetry. We give the general conditions that supersymmetry imposes on the solutions in particular, the internal manifold must have SU(2)-structure. Then we perform an exhaustive search of such vacua on cosets and group manifold. With some assumptions on the SU(2) torsion classes and constant dilaton and warp factor, we find that such vacua are very rare : two on cosets and five on group manifolds. All of them are required to include intersecting O5 and O7-planes. This also means that there exist no sourceless AdS4 vacua. We then study scales separation on the vacua in order to look give some insights for four dimensional effective theory and found that only two of them admit scales separation

Résumé :
The search for semi-realistic supergravity models, seen as the low-energy limit of superstring theory, strongly motivates the study of gauged supergravities and flux compactifications. Outstanding problems in this context are supersymmetry breaking, moduli stabilization and the generation of a small positive vacuum energy density. Whilst spontaneously broken N=1 supergravity is the only phenomenologically viable possibility in four dimensions, its vast arbitrariness is significantly reduced when considering consistent truncations of extended supergravities or, more generally, effective theories of flux compactifications. In this thesis we explore some aspects of supersymmetry breaking for which the constrained theoretical frameworks of extended supergravities and of flux compactifications play an important role. We begin by reviewing the basic structure of four-dimensional supergravities and of flux compactifications of the higher-dimensional ones. We then describe some original work on Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) terms and de Sitter (dS) vacua: we introduce a novel distinction between genuine FI terms and impostors; we formulate a simple anomaly-free model with a genuine FI term, a classically stable dS vacuum and no global symmetries; we explore the relations between N=1 FI terms and their counterparts in extended supergravities, by discussing suitable truncations of the latter. We continue with other original work on the relation between M-theory compactifications with geometrical and non-geometrical fluxes, gauged N=8 supergravity in four dimensions and consistent N=1 truncations of the latter. In particular: we discuss the quadratic constraints on general fluxes in M-theory, relating them with the conditions on the embedding tensor that defines the gauged N=8 theory; we identify the fluxes generating four-parameter supersymmetry breaking à la Scherk-Schwarz, and comment on the one-loop stability of the resulting Minkowski background.

This thesis is devoted to the study of specific solutions in extended supergravity theories. In the first introductory Chapter, we analyze the basic ideas underlying supersymmetry and supergravity models, focusing on the idea of supergravity as a powerful effective low energy approach to more fundamental underlying theories like superstring/M-theory. Subsequently, the thesis is divided into two parts: a first one (consisting in Chapter 2 and 3) in which black hole solutions to ungauged supergravity models are discussed; a second remaining part (Chapter 4 and 5) in which we analyze the construction of new vacuum solutions of the maximal theory, possibly defining new physics of superstring theory. In Chapter 2 the construction of ungauged supergravity theories is discussed more in detail, and the general features of particular black hole configurations are considered. Chapter 3 is devoted to the construction and classification of explicit black hole solutions and their extremal limits. This Chapter contains part of the original results obtained in my PhD project. In Chapter 4 we discuss the procedure of gauging a supergravity model, focusing on the maximal (N = 8) supergravity theory in four dimensions. Finally, Chapter 5 is dedicated to the systematic calculation of possible vacua of gauged supergravity models with N > 2 in Anti de Sitter background. This Chapter contains the remaining original results of my doctoral study period.

Résumé :
In the context of supergravity, the Romans mass is a scalar flux which has been shown to have peculiar properties as avoiding uplifting to M-theory; moreover, in several models it has been used in order to fix moduli. We show that the singularity in SuperGravity due to the O6 plane, that for a vanishing Romas mass is resolved in M-theory, is canceled by the presence of the Romans mass. The result has been obtained using the Generalized Complex Geometry formalism in SuperGravity. The same phenomenon is shown from the gauge theory point of view: the metric near the O6 in the massless case is the moduli space of the Seiberg-Witten model reduced to 3 dimensions. The deformation induced by the Romans mass is introduced by a Chern-Simons term in the Lagrangian.

This dissertation begins with a review of Calabi-Yau manifolds and their moduli spaces, flux compactification largely tailored to the case of type IIb supergravity, and Coleman-De Luccia vacuum decay. The three chapters that follow present the results of novel research conducted as a graduate student. Our first project is concerned with bubble collisions in single scalar field theories with multiple vacua. Lorentz boosted solitons traveling in one spatial dimension are used as a proxy to the colliding 3-dimensional spherical bubble walls. Recent work found that at sufficiently high impact velocities collisions between such bubble vacua are governed by "free passage" dynamics in which field interactions can be ignored during the collision, providing a systematic process for populating local minima without quantum nucleation. We focus on the time period that follows the bubble collision and provide evidence that, for certain potentials, interactions can drive significant deviations from the free passage bubble profile, thwarting the production of a new patch with different field value. However, for simple polynomial potentials a fine-tuning of vacuum locations is required to reverse the free passage kick enough that the field in the collision region returns to the original bubble vacuum. Hence we deem classical transitions mediated by free passage robust. Our second project continues with soliton collisions in the limit of relativistic impact velocity, but with the new feature of nontrivial field space curvature. We establish a simple geometrical interpretation of such collisions in terms of a double family of field profiles whose tangent vector fields stand in mutual parallel transport. This provides a generalization of the well-known limit in flat field space (free passage). We investigate the limits of this approximation and illustrate our analytical results with numerical simulations. In our third and final project we investigate the distribution of field theories that arise from the low energy limit of flux vacua built on type IIb string theory compactified on the mirror quintic. For a large collection of these models, we numerically determine the distribution of Taylor coefficients in a polynomial expansion of each model's scalar potential to fourth order. We provide an analytic explanation of the proncounced hierarchies exhibited by the random sample of masses and couplings generated numerically. The analytic argument is based on the structure of masses in no scale supergravity and the divergence of the Yukawa coupling at the conifold point in the moduli space of the mirror quintic. Our results cast the superpotential vev as a random element whose capacity to cloud structure vanishes as the conifold is approached.
