Résumé :
Fischer plots are a technique that is used to graph changes in accommodation in cyclic carbonate successions. They typically depict the cumulative departure from the average cycle thickness as a function of the cycle number or stratigraphic depth. Many applications of Fischer plots focus on their construction from exposed cyclic carbonate successions. No published programs allow the direct construction of Fischer plots from digital wireline well-logs or dynamic presentations of Fischer plots. Here, we introduce a program known as FischerLab, which facilitates the generation and analysis of Fischer plots. In addition to accepting interpreted stratigraphic data input, FischerLab facilitates the interpretation of digital wireline logs for the generation of Fischer plots in cycle and depth domains, as well as in a dynamic evolving cycle and relative depth domain from an easy-to-use interface. The dynamic construction facilitates the correlation of specific stratigraphic packages to parts of the accommodation cycle while simultaneously tracking the locus of the mean subsidence vector. We demonstrate the use of FischerLab on data derived from the carbonate succession outcrops of the Al-Athrun Formation, Libya, and the Glen Rose Formation, Central Texas, USA, as well as on wireline well-log data from the Western Great Bahama Bank, the Bahamas.

Résumé :
One of the major land use and land cover changes in Europe is agricultural land abandonment (ALA) that particularly affects marginal mountain areas. Accurate mapping of ALA patterns and timing is important for understanding its determinants and the environmental and socio-economic consequences. In highly fragmented agricultural landscapes with small-scale farming, subtle land use changes following ALA can be detected with high resolution remotely sensed data, and successional vegetation height is a possible indicator of ALA timing. The main aim of this study was to determine the relationship between successional vegetation height and the timing of agricultural land abandonment in the Budzów community in the Polish Carpathians. Areas of vegetation succession were vectorized on 1977, 1997, and 2009 orthophotomaps, enabling the distinguishing of vegetation encroaching on abandoned fields before and after 1997. Vegetation height in 2012–2014 was determined from digital surface and terrain models that were derived from airborne laser scanning data. The median heights of successional vegetation that started development before and after 1997 were different (6.9 m and 3.2 m, respectively). No significant correlations between successional vegetation height and elevation, slope, aspect, and proximity to forest were found. Thus, the timing of agricultural land abandonment is the most important factor influencing vegetation height, whereas environmental characteristics on this scale of investigation may be neglected.

Résumé :
In this work, we propose an approximate and energy-efficient CORDIC method, based on a trigonometric function spatial locality principle derived from benchmarks profiling. Successive sine/cosine computation requests cover more than 50% when the absolute phase difference is at most ten degrees. Consequently, this property suggests an optimized circuit implementation, both iterative or a succession of microrotation modules, where the last CORDIC requires fewer iterations, reducing the latency and the total energy budget at the same precision of two separate and independent instances. Thus, this simple design strategy allows significant area and energy dissipation in general-purpose VLSI architectures, but it introduces also dramatically optimizations in applicationspecific embedded systems used in the area of signal processing and radio frequency communication. In this contribution, we introduce a method, the hardware overhead and the energy budget per single cycle. Simulation results show the total energy saving in considered benchmarks is 40% in pipelined and iterative general purposes CORDIC. Furthermore, our application-specific systems (fast Fourier transform and digital oscillators for radiofrequency down conversions) show remarkable cycle savings when the successive sine/cosine computation requests are more than 70%. Finally, in this work, we extend the proposed approach to whichever phase difference less than 26.56° , as a variable for the second CORDIC number of angle rotations.

The purpose of this article is to present possible solutions to the problem of access to digital contents left by a deceased user of Internet services under different European legal systems. Discussion of this issue from a comparative perspective will allow the drawing of general conclusions about the direction de lege lata in which European legislation is heading. In my opinion there should be dedicated legal provisons introduced into the polish civil code which would pertain to digital goods. This would also facilitate the harmonization of inheritance matters in a European perspective. Technological development requires amending the civil code to fit changing reality.

The paper reveals the concept of "digital inheritance" - a new term in law, which has become widespread in many legal systems and refers to the transfer of rights to digital assets in a broad sense. It is established that only turnable digital assets are subject to transfer by way of universal succession. It is shown that the possibility of digital inheritance by law and by will is limited depending on the object by the terms of the contract (a license, services, confidentiality) and/or the human constitutional right to privacy.

Résumé :
Digital control systems are considered, the functioning of which can be represented as a sequence of functions from a finite alphabet. For such systems projects debugging by simulation it is necessary to generate some set of tests for the applying on the simulated system to verify that it is functioning correctly. This paper is devoted to the development of test sets for function successions correctness. It is shown that on admissible function successions partly defined semigroup exists. There exists also word set on limited alphabet of functions, and they could be defined by some right liner grammar. Admissible successions are formally described by the graph of functions. Such a graph defines admissible functions for all digital system states. Digital system function set development is proposed in a way that admissible function successions could be defined as a graph. If the admissibility of two functions fulfillment one after another depends on previously fulfilled functions and the digital system internal state, then some functions should be divided into several subfunctions. The method of such a process is described. Developed graph of functions together with input interaction set for each digital system function define specification for digital system behavior. Proposed method is illustrated on the drawing machine control digital system functions development. The method of test set development on graph function is proposed.

Résumé :
Abstract:Canopy gaps create a temporary spatial heterogeneity, often allowing pioneer species to establish and grow in mature forests. In this study, we asked whether the above model holds for tropical dry forests in the Florida Keys. Six hundred and forty-eight canopy gaps in an extensive Key Largo forest were identified with a LiDAR digital canopy model. The structure and composition of juvenile trees were examined in 45 selected gaps in three stands of known age, and weighted averaging calibration and regression were applied to the data to determine the successional age optimum for each tree species, and the inferred age for each gap based on its sapling composition. Less than 1% of the forest area was recorded as canopy gaps in the LiDAR model. The inferred stand ages were about 70 y greater in canopy gaps in young forest than in the surrounding, unimpacted forest. This suggested that gap formation advanced succession rather than reversing or resetting it. The apparent lack of recruitment by early-successional species may be due to the small size of canopy gaps in this forest, and the minimal contrast between gap and understorey environments; light and water conditions in the small gaps may favour late-successional rather than pioneer species. Establishment of pioneer species may not take place without intense, large-scale disturbances such as fires and hurricanes that remove the entire canopy and consume or erode soils.

Abstract: A person’s daily activity on the net leaves a “digital trail”. This makes us consider: What happens with our “digital trail” when we die? Can the person foresee anything about it?The fact that the “digital trail” may involve both purely personal and patrimonial aspects determines that the approach to the “digital trail” left by the person upon his or her death can be made either from an eminently patrimonial-successory perspective, focused on the management and destination of the digital heritage; or from an eminently personal perspective, centred in the post mortem protection of privacy and/or personal data, both of the deceased and of third parties. This dual approach is reflected in practice and also in comparative European and American legislation. More specifically, this is an area in which questions of inheritance law, contract law and personal law –in particular the protection of personal data and the protection of posthumous and third party privacy– converge. Thus, from the patrimonial point of view, although it is not possible to speak of “digital heritage” as something different from “analogue heritage”, certain specificities surrounding and/or affecting certain “digital assets”, in some cases related to contract law, must be taken into account. In this context, the person can order his or her “digital wills”, providing for successional arrangements (naming “digital successors”) and/or non-successional arrangements (either designating “digital executor/s” or the person able to act in relation to the protection of their personal data and/or the exercise of civil protection actions for honour, privacy or image).Regarding the Spanish legislation, the Catalan Law 10/2017 of 27 June on digital wills adopts an essentially patrimonial perspective, providing for the possibility of appointing a “digital executor” to act before digital service providers with whom the deceased has active accounts. The fact that the Catalan law is fully respectful of the content of the contract signed between the deceased user and the service provider contrasts with the solutions adopted in this regard in other legal systems. Moreover, the default rule of no access to the “content” of the digital accounts and files, unless the deceased had established it or judicial authorisation had been obtained, brings the Catalan law closer to what is provided for in other systems. In the Organic Law 3/2018, of 5 December, on the Protection of Personal Data and the guarantee of digital rights, both the personal approach –of the protection of data of deceased persons– and the patrimonial approach –related to “digital contents”– (in the wrongly called “digital will”) converge. This law is based on the rule of access by default to digital contents or to the personal data of the deceased, and establishes a very broad legitimisation in terms of powers and too extensive in terms of legitimised persons, without establishing any priority between them. This, which may cause problems in practice, contrasts with the provisions of Catalan law and other legislation in our environment. Therefore, the Organic Law 3/2018 is rather a law of unprotection of data and digital contents than of protection of them. Keywords: digital trail, digital assets, digital contents, digital heritage/patrimony, inheritance, digital wills, personal data protection, access, privacy protection.

Résumé :
With the increasing development of digital economy, optimizing intergenerational inheritance and improving intergenerational mobility of family firms are crucial to the digital transformation of firms. This paper analyzes the word "digital" in the annual reports of A-share family firms in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2009 to 2020, and assesses the extent and mechanism of the impact of intergenerational succession on the digital transformation of family firms. The study found that the intergenerational succession of overseas-trained successors can effectively promote the digital transformation of enterprises, improve the economic efficiency of enterprises, and facilitate the internal regulation and innovation of family enterprises at the level of "management perception". In particular, this influence can be heterogeneous depending on the size, equity concentration and life cycle of the company. Therefore, we should take into account the differentiated characteristics of the enterprises themselves, promote development through regulation, and play an active role in the digital transformation of enterprises through intergenerational inheritance.

Résumé :
In this paper, a novel architecture for self-timed analog-to-digital conversion is presented and designed using the NULL Convention Logic (NCL) paradigm. This analog-to-digital converter (ADC) employs successive approximation and a one-hot encoded masking technique to digitize analog signals. The architecture scales readily to any given resolution by utilizing the one-hot encoded scheme to permit identical logical components for each bit of resolution. The four-bit configuration of the proposed design has been implemented and assessed via simulation in 0.18-μm CMOS technology. Furthermore, the ADC may be interfaced with either synchronous or four-phase asynchronous digital systems.

Résumé :
This paper presents a systematization and a comparison of the binary successive approximation (SA) variants. Three different variants are distinguished and all of them are applied in the analog-to-digital conversion. Regardless of an analog-to-digital converter circuit solution, the adoption of the specific SA variant imposes a particular character of the conversion process and related parameters. One of them is the ability to direct conversion of non-removeable physical quantities such as time intervals. Referencing to this aspect a general systematization of the variants and a name for each of them is proposed. In addition, the article raises the issues related to the complexity of implementation and energy consumption for each of the discussed binary SA variants.

Résumé :
A computerized digital dynamometer was used to assess the contribution of individual fingers to total grip strength in 100 hands from 50 randomly selected healthy subjects. The dynamometer simultaneously recorded force data from each digit (index, long, ring, and small) and cumulative grip directly to a laptop computer. The percentage contribution of each finger force to total grip force was calculated at three successive handle sizes for dominant and non-dominant hands. Individual digital contributions to total grip strength were approximately 25%, 35%, 26% and 15% for the index, long, ring, and small fingers respectively. This pattern was consistent irrespective of handle size, hand dominance, and grip strength.

Résumé :
After seeing the technological evolution, we have understood about the A/D converter that it is the meeting point of the analog to digital domains. As technology is being continuously scaled down, the transistor sizes have decreased drastically resulting in reduced area and power consumption in the digital domain. The successive approximation ADC is best suitable for low power applications with moderate speed and simple design. Here, the implementation of 32-bit pipelined analog-to-digital converter with the help of successive approximation register based Sub-ADC. The SAR ADC architectures are popular for achieving high energy efficiency and low power applications. But they suffer from resolution and speed limitation. To overcome the speed limitations of SAR ADC, we proposed the implementation of 90nm using CMOS technology of a low power, high speed pipelined analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The capacitive digital-to-analog converter (DAC), two stage CMOS comparator with output inverter of proposed ADC are lower than those of a conventional ADC. To achieve low power and to minimize the size of the input sampling capacitance in order to ease durability.

Résumé :
In recent years and continuing, widespread research work is carried out on medical implantable devices placed inside the human body. The essential and vital electronic circuit in implantable devices is the Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). The essential requirements in these applications such as long battery life-time, low power consumption and less die area poses a stringent requirement in designing and fabricating an ultra-low power ADCs. Among the diverse converter architectures existing, Successive Approximation Register (SAR) type converter architecture has shown better capabilities in terms of ultra-low power operation, medium resolution, less form factor and less silicon area. In this described paper a novel power effective, better resolution SAR type ADC to be used for biomedical related applications. The proposed work consists of capacitive type Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) based on charge distribution, a CMOS comparator, and SAR logic implemented using D-flip-flops. The different blocks of SAR architecture are simulated using EDA tools in CMOS 180 nm N-well process operated at VDD = 1.5 V voltage (VDD). The circuit is measured under various input frequencies with a sampling speed of 50 MHz and it consumes 22.6 μW. The proposed ADC technology shows SNDR of 48.6 dB and occupies a circuit area of 0.11 mm2 and the measured INL and DNL is calculated to be fewer than 0.54 LSB and 0.45 LSB respectively.

Résumé :
In this article, a combined Discrete Cosine Transformation (DCT) and Successive Division based image watermarking scheme is proposed. In many spatial domain approaches, the watermark information is embedded into Least Significant Bits (LSBs) of host image. These LSBs are more vulnerable to noise and other unwanted information contents in the channel, in few cases these are subjected for modifications also. Many frequency domain approaches withstands LSB interference problem but utilizes more execution time. The proposed technique is a frequency domain approach which can withstand LSB attack and utilizes very less execution time than other existing approaches. Performance analysis is done based on robustness, imperceptibility, data embedding capacity and time of execution. The experimental results are better compared to other existing techniques.

Résumé :
This study presents a survey of the most promising reported SAR ADC designs for biomedical applications, stressing advantages, disadvantages, and limitations, and concludes with a quantitative comparison. Recent progress in the development of a single SAR ADC architecture is reviewed. In wearable and biosensor systems, a very small amount of total power must be devoured by portable batteries or energy-harvesting circuits in order to function correctly. During the past decade, implementation of the high energy efficiency of SAR ADC has become the most necessary. So, several different implementation schemes for the main components of the SAR ADC have been proposed. In this review study, the various circuit architectures have been explained, beginning with the sample and hold (S/H) switching circuits, the dynamic comparator, the internal digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and the SAR control logic. In order to achieve low power consumption, numerous different configurations of dynamic comparator circuits are revealed. At the end of this overview, the evolutions of DAC architecture in distinct biomedical applications today can make a tradeoff between resolution, speed, and linearity, which represent the challenges of a single SAR ADC. For high resolution, the dual split capacitive DAC (CDAC) array technique and hybrid capacitor technique can be used. Also, for ultralow power consumption, various voltage switching schemes are achieved to reduce the number of switches. These schemes can save switching energy and reduce capacitor array area with high linearity. Additionally, to increase the speed of the conversion process, a prediction-based ADC design is employed. Therefore, SAR ADC is considered the ideal solution for biomedical applications.

Résumé :
This paper presents a foreground digital calibration algorithm based on a dynamic comparator that aims to reduce comparator offset and capacitor mismatch, as well as improve the performance of the successive approximation analog-to-digital converter (SARADC). The dynamic comparator is designed with two preamplifiers and one latch to facilitate high speed, high precision, and low noise. The foreground digital calibration algorithm provides high speed with minimal area consumption. This design is implemented on a 12-bit 30 MS/s SARADC with a standard 0.13 μm Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) process. The simulation Nyquist 68.56 dB signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio (SNDR) and 84.45 dBc spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) at 30 MS/s, differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL) are within 0.64 Least Significant Bits (LSB) and 1.3 LSB, respectively. The ADC achieves an effective number of bits (ENOB) of 11.08 and a figure-of-merit (FoM) of 39.45 fJ/conv.-step.

Résumé :
Abstract To assess the successional pattern of fouling organisms three hypotheses were tested: 1) a thermocline is caused by seasonal upwelling events, and therefore, depth influences the successional trajectory of the fouling community; 2) a reduction in the intensity of natural light of the substrate influences the fouling composition and the successional trajectory; 3) fish predation influences the community composition and its successional trajectory. During one year, up-facing and down-facing PVC panels on open, partially caged or fully caged, and placed at depths of 1.5 and 3.5 meters were monthly sampled by digital photograph to determine the community composition and by contact point to estimate the percent coverage of organisms. The upwelling impact provided different water masses, and light intensity was also a determining factor of the overall successional trajectory of the fouling community. After the installation of full and partial cages, differences were identified in the respective successional trajectories. The results of this study suggest that each physical factor or biological process can change the successional trajectory of the community, and the successional model (e.g., convergent, divergent, parallel, or cyclic) depends on the magnitudes of the determinants that act on the community at each stage of its trajectory.
