Sama, Lindor Sterline. « Le sublime chez Giambattista Vico, de l’esthétique à la politique : sublime, rhétorique et politique dans la philosophie vichienne ». Electronic Thesis or Diss., Paris 8, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020PA080046.
Texte intégralThe main objective of this work is to analyze the variations of the meaning of the sublime by Vico and determine how the sublime, as the trigger moment of « andar raccogliendo », participates in the foundation of political community. It’s from the lightning-experience, of the sublime moment that begins the long process of development of the « bestioni » mind who wandered in the great post diluvian forests. By a vigorous imagination, they created the « universals fantastics » or « poetic characters, » which will be their first mode of apprehension of the world. So they are ready to leave their raw state to gradually reach humanity? Thus, at this the concept of «fantastics universals » that Vico founded his new science. In this way, he rehabilitates the imagination, fantasia, and gives it an important role of searching the truth, by proposing a reflection that takes into account all the properties of the human mindset. As a fervent defender of this discipline placed outside the field of knowledge by certain philosophers including Descartes, Vico studied the transformation of the human spirit through different moments of its evolution. So he invented entirely based on « aesthetic sublime ». His approach reminds us Kant, who, in his first criticism, defines basic rules of knowledge starting from the sensitive. The possibility of thinking on sublime as the Neapolitan philosopher not being limited to the poetic age, it should be determined during the passage from the poetic age to the age of « fully developed reason ». Considered as the moment where all symbolic references are suspended, the sublime has the particularity of modifying the order of things to bring out new symbolics institutions. This is what we observe in the new science, during the raising of the plebians against the patriarchy. It is this sublime moment that will favor the emergence of democracy in the cities, which Marc Richir called « sublime in politic». There is a connection between them, as they both reflected the problem of the socio-political foundation
Doublet, Lucie. « « Sublime matérialisme » : Emmanuel Levinas et l’héritage de Karl Marx ». Thesis, Paris 10, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018PA100049.
Texte intégralExplicit references to Marx or to communism are rare in Levinas’ writing, especially in his major works. This is astonishing, considering the context in which he was writing. In the second half of the 20th century, human sciences were particularly influenced by the debate of Marxist paradigms. Levinas was truly impacted by the context of his era. He was a witness of the Russian revolution at Kharkov in 1917. Many members of his family were victims of the Shoah. This tragedy profoundly impacted him. His philosophical approach is lead by the necessity of re-thinking the « human community », whilst bearing in mind the lessons that the 20th century has left behind. Several critics have considered Levinas’ work to be “apolitical”, or have at least argued that the political undertones of his work are to be taken in consideration as a secondary factor. This thesis has, in contrary, focused upon and sustained the centrality of Levinas’ politically motivated thought. Communal and societal dilemmas are at the heart of Levinas’ ethical approach. The traditional socialist stance towards justice and universalism, in the line of Marx, constitutes a central focus of his reflexion. The suggestions made by Marx underpin Levinas’ conceptions of the individual, of pluralism, of justice and of the State. On one hand, they are a source of inspiration for Levinas, on the other, a source of critic. The thesis has aimed to reconstitute the intellectual dialogue that Levinas carried out with Marx between the lines. Whilst exploring the social and political leitmotivs of Levinas’ thought, the interminglement with Marx has been illuminating and innovative. It has enabled an original approach to questions revolving around justice, social struggle and political institutions. Considering the levinassian “Anarchy of Good”, the “Patience” and what Levinas calls the “Liberal state”, previously ignored positions emerge, which have been left on the side by the liberal tradition and by socialist thoughts both in Marxian and anarchist terms
Quennedey, Anne. « Un sublime moderne : l’éloquence de Saint-Just à la Convention nationale (1792-1794) ». Thesis, Paris 4, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA040254.
Texte intégralThis doctoral thesis uses the category of sublime as defined by the Pseudo-Longinus in his Peri Hupsous to examine thespeeches of Saint-Just pronounced in the National Convention during the French Revolution. The first part examines the Pseudo-Longinus’ treaty and pays particular attention to pages about the eloquence ofDemosthenes and Cicero and the verses of the Iliad having relevance to the art of oratory. It compares its ideas withthose of ancient theorists of eloquence and oratory style. Longinian sublime is not a relationship with a transcendentreality, but the intellectual and emotional effect caused by exceptional literary works. The second part is devoted to the brief career of Saint-Just as a political orator. Saint-Just’s theory and practice have beenconsidered in the light of the idea of eloquence set out in Peri Hupsous. They have also been compared with descriptionsand analyses of his eloquence proposed by his contemporaries and by romantic writers. A number of prejudices inheritedfrom the nineteenth century have been refuted and a new portrait of Saint-Just as an orator drawn by considering hiseloquence from a sublime conception of oratory. The third part is a diplomatic edition of Saint-Just’s speeches. In order to establish them, reports of his speeches inrevolutionary papers have been consulted. Furthermore, this part comprises new transcriptions of autograph manuscriptsof his speeches. The appendices contain, among others, an iconography of the revolutionary eloquence, a set of Saint-Just’s unpublishedletters and orders and a short essay testing the fertility of longinian sublime to describe a contemporary literary work
