Résumé :
The judgment of facade styles is an important part of the sustainable utilization and restorative process of historical architectures. Contemporary Harbin needs the help of modern architectural facade forms in the planning of the famous historic city, especially with the facade renovation of old architectures with non-cultural heritage. This paper discusses the possibility of applying advanced image recognition algorithms to the classification of the modern Harbin architectural facade styles and argues that the keys to the classification and positioning of the styles are the forms, the details, and the decorative patterns of the architectural facades, together with the deformation and the quantitative variation factors of the facade decoration symbols. Based on the conventional classification method, the facade styles of Harbin modern architecture were divided into 12 categories after data analysis. To better capture the overall structure information and the style features of the local components in the architectural images, the group convolution and the dilated convolution were added into the ResNet model, and then, the improved channel attention mechanism was introduced to construct a novel CA-MSResNet model. The CA-MSResNet model could more accurately identify the morphological elements and the style categories of the architectures, and the average accuracy reached 87.5%. These techniques, with their promising results, are expected to be further applied in the future research on the sustainable utilization and renovation of Harbin modern architecture.

Résumé :
‘I myself do not believe in explaining anything’, wrote Shel Silverstein. It seems that architecture is always looking to explain itself. Definitions of architecture seem almost common knowledge; ask a bartender, biologist, computer scientist, economist, legislator, birdwatcher, quilter or scientist, each of whom analogises their field with respect to architecture. And several within the profession can themselves define architecture's limits quite elegantly. Most recently Steven Holl defined architecture as consisting simply of abstract, use, space and idea. However, seeking a rationale or explanation for architecture – its role in society, its impact, its value – remains an open debate. This debate has consumed the field, in academia and practice, for centuries. It suggests a dire insecurity.Shifts in architecture's self-perception and self-explanation often relate to formal styles. Any text on architectural history covers these styles, from Neolithic to contemporary, including accompanying sub-movements such as, for the early modern category, Expressionist architecture, Art Deco, and the so-called ‘International Style’. Each style is often imagined a product of, or reaction to, a preceding style, and much the same can be said of accompanying trends in the explanation of architecture. This essay, and its underlying argument, is itself a reaction to the current state of affairs.

Résumé :
The development of architectural styles continues to change from time to time. Modern architecture is one of the phenomenal architectural styles because it is the turning point of major changes in classical architecture that has existed for thousands of years. There are several factors that triggered the emergence of modern architecture, namely the result of the industrial revolution in Europe and also the emergence of boredom and dissatisfaction of architectural artists at that time against classical architecture. Just like classical architecture, modern architecture is also divided based on its respective styles and characteristics. The indicators used in analyzing architectural styles can be in the form of material selection, material characteristics, structures, floor plans, building forms, and others. This study will focus on finding out what architectural styles are contained in the selected building object, namely the Geisel Library. The Geisel Library is a library building that is located and at the same time an icon of the University of California. The Geisel Library was chosen because of the unique shape and characteristics of the building and the lack of journals regarding the analysis of its architectural style. Methods of collecting data from research using literature studies from previous journals and building observations from the internet. The results of the research will be explained in a qualitative descriptive manner, presented in writing and tables and percentage calculations. The results of the analysis and literature of modern architectural styles, the selected building objects tend to lead to a style of brutalism accompanied by a functional and futuristic style.

Résumé :
One can meet the software architecture style's notion in the software engineering literature. This notion is considered important in books on software architecture and university sources. However, many software developers are not so optimistic about it. It is not clear, whether this notion is just an academic concept, or is actually used in the software industry. In this paper, we measured industrial software developers' attitudes towards the concept of software architecture style. We also investigated the popularity of eleven concrete architecture styles. We applied two methods. A developers’ survey was applied to estimate developers' overall attitude and define what the community thinks about the automatic recognition of software architecture styles. Automatic crawlers were applied to mine the open-source code from the GitHub platform. These crawlers identified style smells in repositories using the features we proposed for the architecture styles. We found that the notion of software architecture style is not just a concept of academics in universities. Many software developers apply this concept in their work. We formulated features for the eleven concrete software architecture styles and developed crawlers based on these features. The results of repository mining using the features showed which styles are popular among developers of open-source projects from commercial companies and non-commercial communities. Automatic mining results were additionally validated by the Github developers survey.

Résumé :
Architectural education needs creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. However, little research has looked into how demographic differences, especially gender and learning style, affect the performance of architecture students especially in multidisciplinary curricula. Therefore, the paper aims to investigate the relationship between learning styles and gender among architecture students and their academic performance in a biomimicry-based practice. A practice one-week workshop was employed with a sample of architecture students to identify their idea-generation style and creativity, through novelty, resolution, and elaboration. The study found that Learning styles greatly influence idea generation style preferences and creativity performance in teamwork. Females tend to be more collaborative idea-generators during the initial stages than males. Also, Scores of novelty and elaboration were more closely tied to learning styles, while resolution scores were more associated with gender. Despite many limitations such as the focus on a specific multidisciplinary field (the architectural articulation of biomimicry), the results contribute to the development of architecture teaching strategies and the broader field of biomimicry by providing insights into how different students approach biomimicry-based design challenges.

The article is devoted to the Stalinist Empire style, a unique phenomenon in the architecture of the Soviet period. The author defines its place among such architectural styles and movements as Art Nouveau, Rationalism and Constructivism, as well as among foreign architectural movements of the middle of the 20th century. In aesthetic essence, the Stalinist Empire style was closely associated with Imperial Classicism. It was called upon to perform the functions of glorifying the power of the new young state. Stylistically, it inherited the Baroque, Napoleonic Empire style, late Classicism, Art Deco and Neo-Gothic; the details of these styles contributed to achieving a sense of luxury, pomposity and grandeur. The inner meaning of the new architectural theory and socialist realism, in general, was the comprehensibility of architecture to the masses: completeness, orderliness, monumentality. The architecture of the Stalinist Empire style, which to a certain extent contradicted the rather difficult situation of the country both in the pre-war and post-war periods, was called upon to convey the idea of striving for a bright future, embodied the architectural future that awaited people of the Soviet country.

Résumé :
Since the 1960s, Postmodern architecture has been popular in Western societies. It emerged as a response to the Modernism style by rejecting the abstract elements of architecture and included a return to the communication of architectural meaning for the public. This approach led to the representation of architectural elements from the past and re-considered how culture was reflected in design. Postmodern architecture became popular in Thailand during the 1980s, resulting in the creation of numerous Postmodern buildings in all regions of the country. The objective of this article is to characterize Postmodern architecture in Thailand from 1982 to 1997 (2525–2540 B.E.) and demonstrate the value and importance of such architecture, which is deserving of preservation. The research process included a study of Postmodernism in Western societies; an examination of Postmodern architecture in Thailand through various documents; surveys of six case studies and analyzes of their key concepts and significant architectural characteristics. Based on seminal research led by Vimolsiddhi Horayangkura, Postmodern architecture in Thailand consists of four sub-styles: Historicism, Contextualism, Pluralism, and Behavioralism. These four sub-styles are used as a framework of analysis to re-evaluate both the classification and projects. The adoption of Historicism in the early stage of Postmodernism in Thailand was consistent with the economic prosperity of the middle class, which created a specific meaning for Thai society. The popularity of Postmodern style, particularly Historicism, declined and paralleled with the economic crisis in 1997. The architecture field thus began to focus more on promoting Thai identity or Thai-ness, with which the other three sub-styles were integrated and continued. After reviewing the six building case studies, it was concluded that Postmodern architecture in Thailand has some outstanding key concepts, including Historic Preservation, Historical Allusion, Contextual Linkage, Placemaking, Double-Coding Composition, Eclectic Composition, Specific Signification, and Lifestyle Pattern as Organization. These key concepts reveal interrelation among the four sub-styles and prove that each architectural project cannot be labelled with one sub-style. They also demonstrate the adaptation to the context and way of life of the pluralistic Thai society.

Résumé :
Model-driven development is recognized as one of the most promising approaches in software engineering. Recent research in the area highlights the importance of using an explicit architectural model in this context. Since service-oriented architectures have also demonstrated to be adequate to overcome current software needs, the idea of using the model-driven approach to generate service-oriented architectural models has successfully flourished in the last years. However, the emphasis on the Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) paradigm has led to the design of architectures lacking some desirable features. Knowing the benefits provided by architectural styles, we have found that their use can help us to overcome those needs. Our goal is to obtain a service-oriented model which satisfies the requirements of the concrete architecture and complies with the constraints and vocabulary defined for a specific architectural style. To achieve this, here, we propose to use a weaving model which merges the concrete architectural model with a model of the architectural style of choice.

Résumé :
To date, the existing architectural styles have been systematized with their modifications, subspecies and style trends in relation to thin shells and shell structures. There are several chronologies of the development of architectural styles. It has been established that the intensity and variety of the use of analytical and analytically non-assignable surfaces in the architecture of shell structures, thin shells and in the external forms of various structures can be divided into five time periods. The last fifth period was decided to be called "The revival of interest in shells and curvilinear structures, the emergence of new architectural styles." According to the research materials, it began at the beginning of the XXI century. This article shows that up to now 37 analytical surfaces out of more than six hundred known surfaces have been used. The authors constate the real situation in the architecture of curvilinear forms and show the increasing interest of architects and builders in such objects. It is shown that since 2000, 16 main architectural styles have been used, not counting the latest styles declared by architects, but designated by one or two structures. Analytical and analytically undetectable surfaces that have found application in real structures are listed with specific examples. The architects who participated in the design of the most significant buildings and structures of curvilinear forms at the beginning of the XXI century are indicated. The literature used contains 32 titles.

Résumé :
Introduction: The continuous improvement of autonomous underwater vehicles, the complexity of their systems and the use of a hybrid energy supply system have led to the need of developing a control system using multi-agent technology. To date, a large number of styles of multi-agent architectures have been formed, mainly in the field of organizing the manufacture and developing software. It is important to choose the most suitable architecture style for a multi-agent control system of an autonomous underwater vehicle with a hybrid energy supply system, taking into account its features. Purpose: The development of a method for choosing the most suitable style of a multi-agent architecture among a variety of alternative options. Method: The developed method is based on comparative assessment of various architecture styles according to non-functional requirements. For this purpose, a target graph is specially developed, taking into account the features of the device to be designed. In addition, when generating the final result, the label distribution algorithm was used as the most suitable one for this problem. Results: The proposed method of choosing the architecture style includes the following components: developing indicators by which it is advisable to compare the alternative options; forming various styles of architectures most suitable for the device under construction; analyzing the positive and negative effects of the architecture style according to non-functional requirements; formalizing these influences in the form of qualitative or quantitative labels; obtaining the final grade by applying the label distribution algorithm. Practical relevance: The proposed method allows you to select the most appropriate architecture for a multi-agent control system of an autonomous underwater vehicle. The method can also be used for a wider range of ground-based and air-based robotic systems.

Résumé :
Purpose: The aim of the paper is to study the history of Soviet architecture, associated with changes in its stylistic orientation, when instead of the previously dominant constructivist forms other forms began to prevail, namely Art Deco, neoclassicism and eclecticism. The paper explores the processes in architecture of that time, identifies the main prerequisites for the formation of that architectural style.Methodology/approach: The methodological approach includes a comparative analysis of scientific publications and buildings of Soviet architecture of the 1930s. A comprehensive study is conducted to identify the prerequisites, processes and features of the architecture of this period.Research findings: The main results concern the period under study accompanied by both evolutionary and cardinal changes in architecture associated with the general architectural policy of the government and the creativity of architects. All this determines the peculiarities of the controversial, transitional style of Soviet architecture. The analysis of the controversial architectural style considers the individual genesis. This style is formed under specific conditions and has its own history. Architectural competitions of the 1930s demonstrate the stylistic diversity of architecture and the evolutionary transition from constructivism to Soviet neoclassicism observed in the works of those architects who previously designed the style of constructivism. The term post-constructivism means both a purely chronological concept, that is a period in the history of architecture following the epoch of constructivism and the specific architectural and stylistic phenomenon which still combines constructivism and elements of the subsequent style. A search for individual architects determines the style of the 1930s. In this regard, the term post constructivism best reflects the diversity of architecture of that time, taking into account the historical era and national identity, and the use of elements typical to Art Deco, Neo-Renaissance, or Classicism.Practical implications: The research results can be used to further studying the architecture of this period as well as in the preparation of courses on the history of Soviet architecture of the 1930s. This study makes it possible to realize historical, artistic and cultural value of this style, thereby preserving it in the future.Originality/value: The history of the architecture of that period is still not well understood and is of particular interest for researchers. This study considers both well-known and insufficiently studied buildings of Soviet architecture of the 1930s, compares the obtained facts and opinions of other authors‟. As a result, the paper combines, compares and analyzes interesting information on this topic and investigates concrete facts. Also, a comparison is given to the architecture of the studied and previous periods.

Résumé :
The research analyzes a large number of food facilities in Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa. They are famous for special colorit, attractiveness, and innovation in stylistic and thematic solutions of their spaces. The stylistic analysis of the architecture of their interiors showed that there is mostly no trace of a single stylistic solution but a fusion of several styles or trends. The main stylistic tendencies in the organization of food enterprises' object and spatial environment are defined: eclectic, fusion, a single modern style/direction, and auteur design without reference to any particular style. At the same time, within eclecticism, we distinguish the following vectors of its stylistic solution: displaying the atmosphere of different eras, the relevant historical styles of specific countries and places, and reproducing the interiors of food establishments from different periods and countries. Within the framework of fusion trends, we distinguish the following vectors: a combination of components of modern styles/trends with retro/vintage/antique interior items, with an authentic restored architectural, artistic details; use of contemporary style in combination with elements of historical styles: Art Deco, Classicism, Secession, etc.; the use of several modern styles/stylistic trends, a special mixture of components of many heterogeneous styles of the past and the present, has grotesque character and sometimes bordering on kitsch, also take place. Using a single dominant modern style or trend is the third tendency of style solutions for food enterprises' object and spatial environment. The fourth tendency is interiors, which do not have a clear manifestation of a particular style. The main styles and trends used today in the architecture of the interiors of catering facilities are identified, their definitions are clarified, and the scientific basis is developed. Modern stylistic trends, such as fusion, loft, industrial or industrial, shabby-chic, futuristic, steampunk, Provence, modern classics, and the Mediterranean, are reflected in the object-space environment of restaurants, bars and cafes. Eclecticism, minimalism, and high-tech are the most common styles in these spaces. Performed analysis allowed to determine the main approaches to interior architecture design of food establishments in the context of their conceptual and stylistic solution: conceptualism, eclecticism, environmental friendliness, symbolism, innovation, culturology and traditionalism, cohesion, harmonization, expressiveness, interactivity. Themes of artistic and figurative solution of the subject-spatial environment of food establishments were established.

Résumé :
Abstract The architecture built in Venice’s colony on Crete between its establishment in 1211 and the Ottoman conquest of the island in 1669 displays an intermingling of Western (Latin) architectural traditions with pre-Venetian Byzantine (Orthodox) forms and styles. Previous scholarship has explored the urban architecture of Venetian Crete, but less attention has been granted to the many rural Orthodox churches of the later medieval period that dot the Cretan countryside. While the official monuments of Cretan cities have been interpreted as employing architectural forms with a strong ideological—especially political—intent, the use of forms in rural buildings was not as ideologically charged. These more modest structures employed “Western” and “Byzantine” architectural styles in an ideologically neutral manner that reflected trends in fashion or taste rather than distinctions of cultural or political identity. By the fourteenth century, “Latin” and “Orthodox” architectural traditions had merged into a local style that expressed the cosmopolitan character of medieval Crete.

The article is first to explore contemporary architecture of the unique objects for the purpose of determination of stylistic and imagery characteristics. This would allow forecasting future development of architectural environment of the “Russian Atlantis”. The main conclusion consists in the fact that Harbin actively develops cultural functions that increase its status as an international tourism center. Chinese and foreign architectural firms are attracted to design of the objects. Their works indicate the search of memorable and remarkable objects with attached profound semantic meaning. Contemporary architectural objects reflect history, culture and traditions of China, as well as innovative approaches to the formation of urban environment.

Résumé :
The article considers the concepts of Genius Loci and Zeitgeist and shows the contradictions between these two aspects and their influence on the development of architecture. It is concluded that the predominance of the Genius of Place forms a gravitation towards sedentarisation and diversity of local architectural forms. The predominance of the Spirit of the Time stimulates the development of uniform international architectural styles that ignore the peculiarities of landscape and scenery. During the twentieth century, the development of architecture was mainly shaped by the Spirit of Time, which gave rise to a multitude of “small styles”, each of which aggressively claims a dominant, monopolistic role on a global scale, but actually exists for a very short time and is quickly replaced by the next fashionable style, equally short-lived. The last “big” style built on a deep philosophical and attitudinal basis is the style of “brutalism – deconstructivism”, which was able to achieve a balance between the Genius of Place and the Spirit of the Time.

Résumé :
This moment, the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, has provided an opportunity—sometimes forced via crisis, or via moments of quiet reflection—to consider the inside, interior time and space, in new ways. In America, like other countries, architectural styles have come to us from foreign lands. Numerous domestic structures were influenced by British events from the 1700s–1800s. These styles—these architectures—were transformed by local/regional/national influences and events—events like this current international pandemic—that push the proverbial pause button, and cause us to re-think design. The author, who now resides and works (along with his family) in an 1886 Queen Anne style home, contemplates the various attributes and transformations of domestic architectures and the influences that shape them over time, asking: Why Queen Anne in America? How was it Victorian? And why is it relevant today? Empirical methods include observations and precedents-analysis, design work, the study of technological advances and interior-architecture history of the Victorian era. Emphasis on domesticity acknowledges both past and present by recognizing the importance of domestic architecture from the late 1700s through the 1800s, and into the present. Thus, we better understand how/why the Queen Anne style became ubiquitous in New England, and how its attributes of innate flexibility may help us today.

With a history of five thousand years, China has made many outstanding achievements in architecture. Even in modern times with advanced technology, there are still many advantages that can be used for reference. This article expounds the modern development of ancient Chinese architecture through the unique structure of ancient Chinese architecture and the application and evolution of ancient Chinese architectural styles in modern times. In general, the two unique structures of ancient Chinese architecture, the mortise and tenon structure and the bucket arch structure, due to the development of science and technology, no longer need them to play a load-bearing role. Now they are more used as decorations to reflect Chinese culture in architecture. middle. The architectural style of ancient China is also combined with modern architectural style to simplify the cumbersome construction process while still retaining the unique charm of ancient Chinese architecture. The main purpose of this study is to study the application and development trend of ancient Chinese architecture in modern times.

Abstract Different types of formal expression can be found in the modern architecture of the 21st century - in publications, internet resources and in the generalizations of critics. In the context of the synthesis of arts the styles of sculptural architecture and surface architecture are noteworthy. Characteristics of this synthesis are also noticeable in kinetic architecture where the styles of surface kinetic architecture and sculptural kinetic architecture are distinguished. The genesis of images of buildings constructed in these styles is the result of the synthesis of arts; it reflects the development of historical styles as well as the ways of formal expression and their influences in the end of the 20th century and in the 21st century. This paper provides an analysis of constructed objects and proposals put forth in architectural competitions in Latvia’s 21st century modern architecture.

Résumé :
Architectural styles are dynamic phenomena in which different walks of life work together to find common ground. Trends, directions, innovations or the waning interest in old styles have led to the emergence of new styles over time. In this way, relationships between culture, influences, region, and time could be established after considering them chronologically and regionally. In this research, the transformations and changes of architectural movements over time and space were examined. In addition, influential historical events are given in relation to the periods in which the movements emerged in order to form an idea. In order to do this, 76 major architectural styles, 4 urban planning principles that influence architecture, 2 philosophical approaches in architectural theory, and 4 significant architectural practices in the world were brought together, listed chronologically, and the geographical locations where they emerged and developed were evaluated. For this reason, architectural movements were examined on the basis of design patterns, locations and time period. However, it was intended to draw attention to important historical events in the periods when architectural movements emerged. In addition, scenarios for possible future architectural styles were created. Keywords: Architectural styles, architectural characteristics, architectural development, trend.

Résumé :
The evolution of indigenous architecture for any social culture is usually sectionalised into thresholds of different but succinct architectural styles. The continued survival of any indigenous style is the ability to accommodate changes in components while preserving the culture of the people. The postmodern and contemporary architectural styles are the most recent defined patterns that have been assimilated into the Yoruba areas of Southwest Nigeria. Existing literature on Yoruba architecture have not addressed the delineation of the current threshold of the indigenous style. In a bid to address this problem, this research set out to define the current outlook of the Yoruba indigenous architecture through the forms and elements that have been acculturised from the foreign styles. This was achieved by locating the study in a historic city centre where the social culture is preserved in the community and the buildings. Urban upgrades carried out in the area stimulated the renovation and fresh construction of buildings where they occurred in the otherwise sedentary community. The older buildings in the sedentary parts of the study area and the newer structures in the upgraded areas provided two different thresholds in the architectural evolution for comparison of the constituents of the building patterns. After defining the study area, building counts were carried out to determine numbers in the upgraded and sedentary areas. This helped to calculate the sample sizes for direct observation guided by a schedule. Questionnaire was administered to evaluate residents’ opinions on the subject. Descriptive statistics were used to identify the trends in typologies and preferences while existing literature was used to explain the chronology of styles and the architectural evolution of the area. The research identified the current natures of the forms and elements being adopted in the area and the reasons for their adoption. It concluded that the forms have been modified to suit the social culture and the climate.

Résumé :
Eclecticism style is one of the European architectural styles that have appeared in the buildings of Cairo in 13-14 A.H / 19-20A.D, which means the trend toward consolidation of various models and buildings in the previous civilizations and merge them and out in one building. This style has known as quoted-style or trend in architecture or eclectic architecture. The research is an attempt to Inventory these buildings that are built on this architectural style. This research follows the historical approach to knowing the origin of this architectural style and how it moved and spread in Cairo architecture in 1314 A.H / 1920 A.D. Then follows a descriptive and analytical approach of examples of these buildings built on this style, and analysis its architectural and artistic elements. In the end, the research has reached some critical results. For example, the primary purpose of this quotation and transportation is to give historical and technical value to these monuments. But unfortunately, the method of this quotation came in the wrong way. Thus losing the principle of unity and harmony that characterized the Islamic architecture, they unwittingly distorted the heritage value. These buildings became a collection of models that are not harmonious.

Prague's main feature is that, out of many cultural treasures, it preserved its architectural culture and put it to practical use to present day. Particularly Prague has embraced a wealth of architectural styles from many ages. From the Romanesque, the Gothic culture of Czech's pinnacle age, Baroque, Neo Classicism, the Art Nouveau style buildings that concentrated in Prague at the end of 19th century and finally to modern structures. As we have studied, Prague is a textbook of historical styles: a Romanesque rotunda, a Gothic cathedral, a constellation of Baroque churches and palaces, a Renaissance summer palace, whole districts with histoicizing ‘neo-styles: neo-Gothic, neo-Renaissance, neo-Baroque, neo-Classic,’ Art Nouveau cafes, unfunctional pebble-stone streets and as yet undigested, isolated postmodern structure such as ‘Dancing Building-Gunger and Fred Building’ by Frank O. Modern architecture in its golden age has given a lot of influences to many architectures around the world. The spread of modern architecture at that time could not be stopped and became a style that is widely used throughout the world including IndonesiaThe influence of modern architecture emerged in Indonesia during the Dutch colonial occupation. European architects at that time introduced classical European architecture and modern architecture to Indonesian society. During the Colonial occupation and at the beginning of Indonesian independence, European architects designed public buildings such as government buildings, places of worship( like mosques and churches) and commercial buildings as well as several residences using classical European architectural and modern architecture. As the example that we can still see now is the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia, which was designed by architect Friedrich Silaban who self-taught modern architecture. The design of the Istiqlal mosque at a glance looks very much influenced by modern architecture, although domes and tower as a characteristic of Middle East architecture is still been used. The mosque as a whole is designed to look monumental which emphasized the used of a mixture of modern architecture styles.

Since the outbreak of the Opium War in 1840, Western forces gradually penetrated mainland China, and a new wave of Western architectural styles began to emerge on the Chinese mainland. Thus a combination of Chinese and Western architecture appeared more frequently in the private sector. This article takes the former residence of Xiang Hanping and Chen Jitang's residence as examples to analyse the application of the combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles in the architecture of modern Chinese private houses in the two regions. The result is that both the former residence of Xiang Hanping and the Chen Jitang Mansion belongs to the inherited transformation style of modern private house architecture. The former home of Xiang Hanping has a green brick façade with glazed tile sloping roofs full of classical Chinese elements and is decorated with various traditional Chinese motifs. In contrast, the residence's interior is delicately decorated in a Western style, actively using new Western building materials and techniques. The Chen Jitang Mansion, on the other hand, is more daring in its construction, with a prominent 'foreign façade' combined with a magnificent interior, bringing the Western architectural style to the forefront but actively using the traditional Chinese classical garden concept in the conception and design of the courtyard, combining East and West to complement each other. The two examples are typical of the inherited transformation of the East-meets-West architectural style in the context of the same period.

Architectural forming in the Moderne movement lies, or rather stems from the function, that is, from the structure bulk, whose composition dictates volumetry which is the principal characteristics of a structure. It can be stated that this simplified definition of architectural forming in the Nis Moderne is only partially true, because many other factors influenced forming and creation of the Nis Moderne. The very introduction states that until 30's of the last century, the prevailing styles and directions in Serbian Moderne, and by virtue of this, in Nis, were classicistic pseudo styles, national romantic architecture based on Serbian-Byzantine style, as well as folk architecture. Many authors leading the Moderne in Serbia and Nis, often designed at the beginning of their careers in some of the mentioned styles or combined them, so that the influence of these styles and directions was felt for a very long time in their designing opus. Often, the investors' wishes to add an element or two on the fa?ade in order to make it 'more beautiful and richer' left its mark - the majority of Moderne buildings in Serbia and Nis are a sort of compromise resulting from this struggle between old styles, investors' preferences and architects' aspirations to something new.

Résumé :
Gedung Sate was built to accommodate various architectural styles derived from local and foreign elements. The local elements have been widely studied, such as those relating to the architecture of the 'Candi' on the island of Java. Many external elements are associated with the Moorish European style and that of the Dutch. However, according to the elements, it also indicates the existence of Indian Islamic architecture, the Mughal style. This study of the Islamic elements of Mughal India has not been pursued or presented any further. This study aims to identify the traces of Islamic architecture in the Gedung Sate, especially those derived from the Mughal, Moorish and local styles. This research method used a qualitative approach by studying the morphology of Gedung Sate and Mughal or Moorish buildings to identify the relationship between their architectural elements. The results show that Gedung Sate does indeed show the use of Mughal architectural elements, especially in the outer layout and mass, processing of the figure section, and the ornamental exterior column, while the Moorish influence is more visible in the processing of curved elements and column heads and slender interior columns showing light elements. The idea of using Islamic architecture is carried out to represent the splendor in the typology of new buildings in the prospective capital city of the Netherlands Indies, namely Bandung. Indian architecture is used as a reference because it is considered to have a close relationship with Candi as an important resource in Java.

Research over the last twenty years into seventeenth-century elite British architecture has questioned the view that Classical designs were the preserve of a narrow group of royal and aristocratic patrons at the Stuart court, and also that Inigo Jones was a ‘lonely genius’ misunderstood in his own lifetime but prophesizing the true Classicism that was to bloom in the eighteenth century. The role of patrons in defining architectural styles has also been analysed, and it has been noted that Classicism was not the only style they favoured. For earlier historians, a perception that Classical architecture was an advance upon the Gothic style of medieval English buildings led to discussions of ‘Gothic survival’ or ‘Gothic revival’ and of a ‘Battle of the Styles’ in sixteenth-, seventeenth- and eighteenth-century buildings, with such patrons as Lady Anne Clifford (1590–1676), who commissioned and renovated buildings in Gothic style, being viewed as a ‘curiosity’ for not employing Classical style.

Résumé :
In recent years, with the increasingly rapid development of the glass curtain wall and its gradually mature use in architecture, many designers choose to use glass curtain walls when designing buildings in order to get the desired building facade effect. As a result, there are many new architectural styles and building facade effects. Against this background, this paper discusses how glass curtain wall is applied in architecture and how it helps and influences architectural design styles and techniques. To conclude, the glass curtain wall has been widely used in the design of high-rise buildings and public buildings at this stage, and it also helps designers to more conveniently adjust the virtual-real relationship of building facades and the overall architectural style. The use of large-area glass curtain walls in the design of facades can achieve special effects that cannot be replaced by other materials. At the same time, the application of glass facades also promotes the process of architectural design modernization.

Résumé :
The article analyzes the Bosnian style in architecture by reflecting upon the phenomenon of the national architectural style, its role in the construction of national identity, political and ideological instrumentalization. The issue of the relationship betwee tradition and modernity and the position of architectural heritage in the contemporary context arises. Interpretative framework of the specificity of the national architectural idiom also includes a discursive view of the relationship between the periphery and the center. Through a comparative analysis of national styles in architecture of the Balkan countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Croatia and Serbia, their character, distinction and mutual connections are defined. The Bosnian-style in architecture is viewed in its development as an architectural idiom of the national origin, but also as an authentic stylistic determinant created in the process of a creative research of architectural heritage that will ultimately result in new spatial-design and aesthetic values consistent with modernist architectural concepts. In this sense, the position of the Bosnian style as a national style in the history of European modernism is questioned, its connection with the aesthetics of modernism based on the principles of reducing excessive decorativeness, formative purism and functionalism.

Iranian art reflects the spirit and inclinations of Iranians, regardless of place and time of origin. Another point is the diversity of works of art which shows that the ancient Iranians had high skills in different regions. Iranian architecture and painting have always been present side by side and influentially throughout history, and this connection persists until today in contemporary Iranian art. The present article is a research on the features and concepts of architectural and painting styles in contemporary Iranian art and a comparative comparison of these two arts which is centered on the concept of architecture and painting. The contemporary architectural styles and tendencies in question date back to the first and subsequent Pahlavi rule. The general objectives of the research are to apply the styles of painting and architecture in Iranian art to achieve the same conceptualism of these two arts. Résumé :
The of direction and style terms are of great importance in architecture and art history. The same names may have sometimes a completely different meaning. Classicism as one of the main trends in world architecture and art is now quite freely interpreted by different authors, which results in inaccurate definitions of architectural style of an object and the time of its construction. All this creates certain difficulties in studying not only historical buildings, but also their restoration or reconstruction. The article raises several questions related to the direction style. The first is the origins of the style that spread throughout Europe and Russia since the mid of the 17th century and continues today. Both classicism and its architectural styles require clarification and understanding. The second issue concerns the architecture and development of Siberian cities. The third question describes the influence of classicism on urban planning in West Siberia.

Résumé :
Considering the rapid development of today's society, earth-shaking changes have taken place in many areas, and the field of architecture is no exception. More and more new buildings are emerging. Some of them are built with different materials, some are in innovative styles, and some are for diverse uses. People can clearly find the differences between modern buildings and ancient buildings, including the differences in materials, uses, structures, etc. By tracing and analyzing the relationship between ancient architecture and modern architecture, this paper discusses the architectural style, materials, and how to combine the two. It can be concluded that there are differences existing in materials, structures, and space utilization between ancient and modern buildings. Ancient buildings pay attention to beauty and the embodiment of national spirit, but they do not perform well in the fire resistance and the construction period is long. Modern buildings focus on practicality and safety but may allow less daylighting to enter or have other unreasonable designs. Therefore, the materials and styles of ancient buildings and modern buildings can be well integrated to maximize the role of architecture.
