Résumé :
The use of teaching aids is seen as an important component in the teaching and learning process to improve students' understanding of learning, especially students with special educational needs (SEN). The purpose of this writing is to identify the appropriate VAK teaching aids according to the category and level of SEN disability, identify issues in providing VAK teaching aids and find out the importance and implications of the appropriate teaching aids for students with SEN. The issue that arises in relation to VAK teaching aids is the use of teaching aids that does not suit the student's disability and the teacher's lack of knowledge regarding the use of teaching aids based on the student's learning style. The appropriate use of teaching aids can help students with SEN to understand the learning process delivered in class, can detect the potential and talent of students with SEN in the academic or co-curricular field and be able to apply the student-centered learning concept. The challenge of using the appropriate teaching aids according to the category and level of disability of students with SEN in the classroom can be divided into three factors, which are the student, teacher and school factors. One of the ways to overcome this issue is that teachers need to study the level of student ability based on each category before creating teaching aids and divide students based on three main groups, namely visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

Purpose: To present briefly the basic used phases when using aids to teach language components and also to outline the possible aids that could be used to support the teaching of each language component. Method: Related literature about the teaching of language components and use of aids were thoroughly consulted. On the basis of this, the study did not include any data-collection, investigated hypotheses, or whatever! It is just a descriptive study. Results: The descriptive discussion of the above raised issue indicated that three phases are to be minimally considered when using aids to teach the sound system component: discrimination and recognition, repletion and/or imitation, and free-production; three phases also for grammatical structures, namely: mechanical-drills, meaningful-exercises, and communicative exercises; and three also for vocabulary: form, meaning, and contextual usage and collocations. Besides, the major possible aids for teaching each language component were outlined and followed with the use of conventional labs, radio and TV¾for teaching language components. The last part introduced computer-assisted language learning CALL, its uses and the advantages of using it for teaching language components in particular and language skills in general. Conclusions: The use of aids whether they were conventional or modern is inexorably required so that language teachers can achieve what could have never been achieved through non-aid use teaching methods and/or strategies. Résumé :
This qualitative study explores the impact of teaching aids on the academic performance of seventh-grade natural science learners at a selected school in the Kunene Region. The research focuses on understanding how instructional aids affect student comprehension, engagement, and overall academic achievement. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 10 seventh-grade students and two science teachers for semi-structured interviews, providing in-depth insights into their experiences with teaching aids in the classroom. Data were analyzed thematically, revealing key subthemes that illustrate the positive effects of teaching aids on learning outcomes. Results indicate that teaching aids, such as charts, models, and laboratory equipment, enhance understanding of concepts, increase student engagement, improve academic performance, promote critical thinking, and foster collaborative learning. However, the study acknowledges a significant limitation: its focus on a single region, which limits the generalizability of the findings to other contexts. Recommendations for educators and policymakers include investing in a variety of teaching aids, incorporating interactive learning techniques, and fostering collaborative learning environments. The study also suggests further research with larger sample sizes, across multiple regions, and using quantitative methods to validate and expand on these findings. Additionally, a longitudinal approach to understanding the long-term impact of teaching aids on educational outcomes is proposed as an area for future study. The insights gained from this study contribute to the ongoing discourse on effective teaching practices and underscore the importance of providing adequate resources to support natural science education.

Résumé :
The Norwegian primary and secondary school curriculum from 2020 (LK20) clearly states that the history, cultural life, and rights of the indigenous Sámi people should be included in the school practice. This study addresses how objectives in the subject-specific plans with Sámi content are taught and explores, in addition, teachers’ experiences and reflections on these topics. To investigate this, an electronic questionnaire with open and closed questions was sent to all primary and secondary schools in the South Saepmie region of Norway. The results indicate that a high degree of the respondents include Sámi culture and tradition in their teaching, and there is a variation in their teaching from happenings on February 6th to interdisciplinary projects. The teachers report a lack of competence and call for a greater emphasis on Sámi topics in the teacher education programs. A lack of available teaching aids is experienced even though many found other resources locally and, e.g., on the internet. They experienced, however, an increase in the availability of teaching aids in recent years. The respondents pointed out, however, that inadequate teacher competence and a lack of teaching aids strongly limited the respondents’ possibility to teach Sámi topics in school. Consequently, more teaching aids should be developed, and Sámi content in continuing and teacher education programs should be strengthened.

Résumé :
Data from the Second International Mathematics Study were analyzed using dual scaling or correspondence analysis to identify dimensions on which 103 Ontario Grade 8 mathematics teachers varied in reported use of instructional aids. These dimensions were then related to teacher and student characteristics and student achievement in mathematics. Teachers reporting greater use of a variety of instructional aids in the teaching of geometry and of ratio, proportion, and percent also reported greater course coverage. Experienced teachers reported more use of instructional aids. Student achievement in geometry was related to teaching experience and occasional use of a variety of instructional aids. Student achievement in ratio, proportion, and percent was related to teaching experience but was associated with extensive rather than occasional use of aids. The effect of instructional aids did not remain after the influence of topic coverage was removed. The use of instructional aids in the teaching of measurement was unrelated to virtually all teacher and student characteristics as well as student achievement.

Résumé :
The misconception that persons with disabilities are asexual and sexually inactive often relegates teaching sexuality education in special needs schools to a priority of low importance. The access, or lack thereof, to such information causes students lvith disabilities to be at an increased risk of HIV infection; therefore, providing them with sexuality education is imperative. The purpose of the present study was to examine the teachers' and childcare providers' views of teaching sexuality, HIV, and AIDS programs in special needs schools. A survey questionnaire was employed to collect the data. The results showed that among the four major study constructs, teaching practices had the highest mean scores (M = 4.2). A correlation matrix among the 10 study variables indicates the strongest positive associations for teaching practices with cure for HIV (r = .37, P < .01) and the seriousness of the AIDS problem (r = .35, P < .05) with programs related to HIV and AIDS. The study confirmed the teachers' high levels of knowledge regarding HIV and AIDS and that they were taking the teaching of sexuality education to students with disabilities seriously. The teachers, however, questioned who should be held responsible for teaching this sexuality education, which may have an impact on their attitudes and beliefs as well as their teaching practices of the topic.

AbstractBackground:The nervous system is a major target of HIV-1 infection and site of many complications of AIDS. Most of our knowledge pertaining to the range and frequency of neuropathology in HIV-1/AIDS is from large centres outside Canada in different social and health care settings. The goal of the present study was to describe HIV-1/AIDS-associated neuropathology before and during the era of highly active antiretroviral therapy at a Canadian teaching centre. Methods:The records of the Department of Pathology, London Health Sciences Centre were electronically searched for cases of HIV-1/AIDS that came to postmortem examination since 1985. The clinical records and pathological materials were reviewed. Results:Sixteen autopsies of HIV-1/AIDS were identified. All patients were male. Fourteen contracted HIV-1 through high risk homosexual activity, one through the transfusion of blood products and one through intravenous drug use. Three patients (19%) had pre-mortem evidence of HIV-1 associated dementia. At autopsy, 12 of the 16 cases had neuropathological findings and the most common diagnoses were HIV-1 encephalitis, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, toxoplasmosis, and primary CNS lymphoma. Conclusions:High risk homosexual activity was a more prominent factor in acquiring AIDS in cases coming to postmortem examination compared with previous reports from most larger urban centres outside Canada where injection drug use and high risk heterosexual activity factored prominently. The incidence of HIV-1 associated dementia was similar to that reported previously. This study confirms the heavy burden and wide spectrum of disease experienced by the nervous system in HIV-1/AIDS.

Because of the high rate of HIV/AIDS in the Hispanic community, the original purpose of this qualitative study (n=20) was to investigate the explanatory models of HIV and AIDS in Mexican migrant women in southeast Idaho. However, a reoccurring theme emerged that pointed toward the possibility of a breakdown in communication between the Mexican migrant families and the education system regarding sex education. Eighty percent of the women interviewed believed that their children were receiving education about condoms and safer sex practices in the school, while in reality the students were only receiving abstinence-based sex education. Since the women believed that their children were being educated in school, there was no dialogue in the family unit about safer sex practices. Because of the high rate of HIV/AIDS and teen pregnancy in the Hispanic community in the United States, it is important to examine this lack of education as a possible catalyst to these problems.

Résumé :
Visualization is identified as a crucial element that affects students' performance in Geometry. Technology plays an important role to assist weak students in visualizing concepts in Geometry. Teachers need proper planning in teaching to help their students in understanding the concepts. This study used partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses to verify the effects of variables on teachers’ intention of integrating visualization technology in teaching geometry. The model consists of four constructs: teaching strategy, teaching activity, selection of media, tools and teaching aids, and assessment. The research instrument consisted of 30 survey questions for four main constructs: teaching strategy, teaching activity, selection of media, tools, and teaching aids and assessment. The questionnaires were distributed to 180 teachers who teach Mathematics in secondary schools. The study used a PLS-SEM modeling tool to analyze data for reliability and validity. Results show that teaching strategy, teaching activity, selection of media, tools and teaching aids, and assessment significantly influence the integration of visualization technology in Geometry. This finding is a reference for policymakers and implementers to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Geometry for secondary schools.

Résumé :
Focusing on problem-based learning (PBL) and the multi-disciplinary teaching of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), we developed the evaluation tool of teaching aids in STEAM education to help students practice creative thinking and solution-finding. The fuzzy theory and the analytical hierarchy process were integrated for the evaluation of the acceptance of using robots in STEAM education. The fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) was developed with the help of experts in education and industry who defined the goal, criteria, and alternatives (factors) of using teaching aids in STEAM education. FAHP was applied to the evaluation of three robots designed for STEAM education in this study. The result of the evaluation showed that the use of the designed robots in STEAM education was important in five criteria (structure, function, economy, aesthetic, and creativity). Among the alternatives, logic, creativity, simpleness, Avant-garde, and innovation were important for robots to be used for STEAM education. This indicated that artistic elements were important in the integration of them in STEAM education. The developed FAHP and questionnaire were useful in evaluating the acceptance of teaching aids in STEAM education. For the evaluation of the use of other teaching aids, the result of this study provides a basis and a reference for how teaching aids can be used for STEAM education.
