In factory planning projects information of products, processes and restrictions are aggregated independently. Thus, redundancy occurs and important correlations remain undetected. The quality of results relies upon the factory planner’s expertise. Within this article, a process modelling language for a structured information acquisition and presentation in the context of factory planning projects is presented.

Résumé :
An error-comprising workflow definition of mission critical business process might incur serious problems to an enterprise. Although workflow designer is responsible for the error-comprising workflow definitions, workflow system has to be equipped with an intelligent workflow modeling tool preventing workflow designers from specifying error-comprising workflow definitions. Faults and mistakes of process designers have to be detected and reported to them by the tool at workflow build time. Access conflicts and improper specification of exceptions are two typical examples of such an error-comprising workflow definition. In this paper, we develop an access conflict detection and an uncaught exception detection techniques. A simple workflow definition language, named SWDL, is developed and the techniques are successfully developed on SWDL using Set Constraint System. With slight modifications and scope restrictions, the proposed techniques can be used in any workflow definition language either by translating it into SWDL or by referring to the techniques for the developing its own techniques. This indicates that general conventional programming language analysis techniques can be used in the analysis of workflow definitions by introducing an intermediate workflow definition language and developing analysis techniques on it.

Résumé :
Although the use of UML and BPMN is widely spread among many domains, it has not yet been analysed which of the two approaches favours the modelling of logistical process. In a world in which all actions have become more constricted by the time factor and everything needs to arrive “just in time”, a successful logistical model can influence the success or the failure of many projects that are linked to logistical services. As such, it is important to compare the best possible tools that favour the correct and efficient modelling of logistical businesses and approaches. The article will shortly try to present an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of using either UML ( Unified Modelling Language) or BPMN ( Business Process Modelling Notation) in modelling the logistical process. In comparing these two languages, the article will analyse some characteristics that can be applied to make the logistical models more efficient, structured and most important applicable. It is highly advisable, when choosing one of the two languages to have a clear choice from the start in order to not switch back to the other language during the modelling process or even in the implementation phase, upon realising that there some features that are not favorable for this domain-specific modelling.

Résumé :
Various theories have been proposed regarding the origin of creole languages. Describing a process where only the end result is documented involves several methodological difficulties. In this paper we try to address some of the issues by using a novel mathematical model together with detailed empirical data on the origin and structure of Mauritian Creole. Our main focus is on whether Mauritian Creole may have originated only from a mutual desire to communicate, without a target language or prestige bias. Our conclusions are affirmative. With a confirmation bias towards learning from successful communication, the model predicts Mauritian Creole better than any of the input languages, including the lexifier French, thus providing a compelling and specific hypothetical model of how creoles emerge. The results also show that it may be possible for a creole to develop quickly after first contact, and that it was created mostly from material found in the input languages, but without inheriting their morphology.

Résumé :
We present a probabilistic model of phonotactics, the set of well-formed phoneme sequences in a language. Unlike most computational models of phonotactics (Hayes and Wilson, 2008; Goldsmith and Riggle, 2012), we take a fully generative approach, modeling a process where forms are built up out of subparts by phonologically-informed structure building operations. We learn an inventory of subparts by applying stochastic memoization (Johnson et al., 2007; Goodman et al., 2008) to a generative process for phonemes structured as an and-or graph, based on concepts of feature hierarchy from generative phonology (Clements, 1985; Dresher, 2009). Subparts are combined in a way that allows tier-based feature interactions. We evaluate our models’ ability to capture phonotactic distributions in the lexicons of 14 languages drawn from the WOLEX corpus (Graff, 2012). Our full model robustly assigns higher probabilities to held-out forms than a sophisticated N-gram model for all languages. We also present novel analyses that probe model behavior in more detail.

Résumé :
The article offers a comparative description of features which characterize the speech of native and non-native Russian speakers. The authors analyze typical mistakes considering both the degree of deviation from codified language variant and the nature of the impact of another language system. Besides, they look at the level of language skills. The special attention is given the description of the stages of authorship study as a system way of determining of the language personality and its lingua-cultural features. By analyzing the corpus of texts written by native speakers of seven languages, the authors show a number of signs that indicate non-native Russian speaker. Data shows that looking for patterns is associated with typological features of Russian language system and at the same time is based on comparative analysis of two different language systems which are actualized in author’s consciousness. The principles of characterization of categorical nature of typical mistakes which are to be in the written speech of non-native Russian speaker and language interference allow to identify the relation between the individuality of the text and ethno-socio-cultural environment. It is proved that the regularities peculiar to unusual language competence characterize it as a structure that adopts genetical relations and synchronic differences of the languages and also reflects the process of formation of the competence in natural or educational environment.

The article is devoted to the description of structural methods of processes modeling, represented by visual languages of business processes modeling of socio-economic systems, designed not only for static functional/information modeling of processes, but also allowing to simulate their behavior. The description of grammar of structural languages of designing business processes of the enterprise which subsets it is offered to adapt for expansion of input language of the tool complex of RDS (Calculation of Dynamic Systems) that will allow to use opportunities of a complex for the solution of problems of the analysis not only dynamic, but also business models of organizational and economic systems are given. Provides the syntax and semantics of DFD, STD, ERD-notations. For the formal description of the syntax it is proposed to use the apparatus of mixed grammars, which are a combination of graph and ordinary grammars. The article describes the grammar that generates the simplest dialect of DFD-technology, informally describes the semantic aspects of the language, in particular the semantics of relations between the objects of the language. The basic constructions of the proposed language, its syntax and semantics are presented. Classification of potential errors is given. Non-terminal symbols of the language are presented in detail: diagram, DFD-diagram, STD-diagram, ERD-diagram, mini-specification, service structures are defined (including data dictionary). The types and sorts of evaluation criteria in the problems of business models quality analysis, syntax errors detection, as well as static semantics errors during their implementation in RDS are described. Static analysis of the business model is carried out in three directions which are syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Analysis methods can be divided into the following classes: syntactical, i.e. those that reveal violations of the syntax of the diagram representation language; semantic, revealing violations of the semantic representation of diagrams and their elements; methods of analyzing the quality of the business model, evaluated by the parameters of connectivity and cohesion. The implementation of the described methods and mechanisms is assumed as an additional module of simulation modeling of business processes as part of the RDS software complex, which is a tool for building research stands that provide the process of modeling, analysis and synthesis of control systems. The complex was implemented in the framework of projects implemented in the IPU RAS. The article defines the purpose, composition and structure of the business process simulation module.

Abstract The increasing use of renewable energy in building energy systems has brought considerable challenges for the traditional planning process to develop appropriate control strategies. In previous work, we have introduced the MODI method to support the structured development of mode-based control algorithms, in which operating modes are core elements. However, modeling of energy systems and control algorithms for control tests is time-consuming and error-prone. Identification of permissible operating modes is also unfeasible. The paper introduces a methodology to identify permissible operating modes and model energy systems with mode-based control algorithms in the modeling language Modelica automatically. In the case study, we apply the methodology for an energy supply network and verify the functionality of the methodology. In future work, automated optimization of control algorithms will be integrated into the methodology.

Résumé :
Summary Objectives: Data and information in medicine are mainly represented in slightly structured or even unstructured, narrative text documents. It is nearly impossible to detect and handle relationships between data elements within narrative documents or to retrieve parts of documents that contain specific information. But information access and retrieval are essential to serve the delivery and application of evidence-based medicine. Methods: The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) provides a standard means to explicitly describe a document‘s structure and to identify meaningful elements inside textual narrations. Information about the state-of-the-art medical care can be delivered to the physician by different means and media. Clinical practice guidelines are thought to be one possible solution to summarize and present current medical evidence. Results: The structuring of resources containing medical information with XML can facilitate the provision of problem-specific medical information at the point of care by improving content retrieval and presentation. In our project, the XML Schema is used for the electronic representation in order to structure guidelines (and other text-based resources) in a standardized way. Conclusion: The transition from unstructured textual data towards structured and coded data will be a migration process. One of the premises of our approach is that the structure that is defined by the information model doesn‘t restrict the content of the documents. This approach may fill the gap between computerized, algorithmic guideline recommendations and text-based guideline distributions.

Résumé :
Acceleration of socio-technological changes increases demands and complexity of process modeling tasks. Developing the appropriate thinking skills is becoming a mass necessity. This paper describes a method for representation of pro- cesses, allowing systematization of such skill based on life cycle. Any process is then represented as a sequence of stag- es: perception, analysis, design, action, coordination, and evaluation. This sequence is formalized as a circular trajecto- ry on a phase space, the Cartesian axes of which are the activity and potency factors of classical semantics. As a result, the scheme receives a simple mathematical expression and is interfaced with standard methods of semantic measure- ments. The experimentally presented structure was revealed in the word2vec English language vector model, which additionally aligns it with machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. The developed model is considered as general ontology of processes in Nature, used in natural thinking as a stereotype of building cause-and-effect models of events. The result obtained opens up opportunities for the development of methods of process and causal-sense model- ing for scientific, technical and everyday purposes.

Résumé :
We introduce the Concept→Model→Graph→View Cycle (CMGVC). The CMGVC facilitates coherent architecture analysis, reasoning, insight, and decision making based on conceptual models that are transformed into a generic, robust graph data structure (GDS). The GDS is then transformed into multiple views of the model, which inform stakeholders in various ways. This GDS-based approach decouples the view from the model and constitutes a powerful enhancement of model-based systems engineering (MBSE). The CMGVC applies the rigorous foundations of Category Theory, a mathematical framework of representations and transformations. We show that modeling languages are categories, drawing an analogy to programming languages. The CMGVC architecture is superior to direct transformations and language-coupled common representations. We demonstrate the CMGVC to transform a conceptual system architecture model built with the Object Process Modeling Language (OPM) into dual graphs and a stakeholder-informing matrix that stimulates system architecture insight.

Résumé :
In the past decades, a number of methodologies have been proposed to innovate and improve business processes that play an important role in enhancing the operational efficiency of an organisation in order to attain business competitiveness. Traditional business process modelling (BPM) approaches are process-centric and focus on the workflow, ignoring the data modelling aspects that are essential for today’s data-centric landscape of modern businesses. Hence, a majority of BPM initiatives have failed in several organisations due to the lack of data-driven insights into their business performance. On the other hand, the information systems of today focus more on dataflows using object-oriented modelling (OOM) approaches. Even standard OOM approaches, such as unified modelling language (UML) methods, exhibit inherent weaknesses due to their lack of formalized innovation with business objects and the dynamic control-flows of complex business processes. In addition to these issues, both BPM and OOM approaches have been augmented with an array of complex software tools and techniques which have confused businesses. There is a lack of a common generalized framework that integrates the well-formalised control-flow based BPM approach and the dataflow based OOM approach that is suitable for today’s enterprise systems in order to support organisations to achieve successful business process improvements. This paper takes a modest step to fill this gap. We propose a framework using a structured six-step business process modelling (BPM) guideline combined with a business object-oriented methodology (BOOM) in a unique and practical way that could be adopted for improving an organisation’s process efficiency and business performance in contemporary enterprise systems. Our proposed business object-oriented process modelling (BOOPM) framework is applied to a business case study in order to demonstrate the practical implementation and process efficiency improvements that can be achieved in enterprise systems using such a structured and integrated approach.

Résumé :
The computational study of structures with chemical relevance is preceded by its modeling in such manner that no calculations can be submitted without the knowledge of their spatial atomic arrangement. In this regard, the use of an object-oriented language can be helpful both to generate the Cartesian coordinates (.xyz file format) and to obtain a ray-traced image. The modeling of chemical structures based on programming has some advantages with respect to other known strategies. The more important advantage is the generation of Cartesian coordinates that can be visualized easily by using free of charge software. Our approach facilitates the spatial vision of complex structures and make tangible the chemistry concepts delivered in the classroom. In this article an undergraduate project is described in which students generate the Cartesian coordinates of 13 Archimedean solids based on a geometrical/programming approach. Students were guided along the project and meetings were held to integrate their ideas in a few lines of programmed codes. They improved their decision-making process and their organization and collecting information capabilities, as much as their reasoning and spatial depth. The final products of this project are the coded algorithms and those made tangible the grade of learning/understanding derived of this activity.

Modeling itself can be used as a reference in the process of developing information systems to suit user needs. One modeling technique that is often used is to use a unified modeling language (UML). Modeling techniques with UML are able to describe various features of information systems. for this reason, in this research a model for the PTPN VII enterprise resource planning (ERP) information system is used as an initial step in fulfilling information management needs. the use of modeling itself is an initial implementation of information technology and information systems in a corporate environment, especially PTPN VII. The results of modeling have been done using three types of diagrams in UML as a reference in the development of structure diagrams created using class diagrams, behavior diagrams created using use case diagrams, and interaction diagrams created using activity diagrams. The results of the modeling have also been implemented in the form of a prototype of the information system so as to provide a clear picture for interested parties if the development of enterprise resource planning (ERP) information systems, especially in the PTPN VII environment. The information system prototype can also describe the initial forms for stakeholders if changes are to be made

Résumé :
The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is among the most studied optimization problems in the field of supply chain management. Typically, VRP requires dispatching a fleet of vehicles from a central depot to deliver demand to pre-determined spatially dispersed customers, with the objective of minimizing the total routing cost, and the constraint of not exceeding vehicles’ capacities. Agent Based Modelling (ABM) assists industries in the use of technology to support their decision-making process. This paper proposes a model of an Agent Based Vehicle Routing Problem System. The system under study is modelled using the Unified Modelling Language 2.0 (UML 2.0). The aim of the proposed model is to exploit the clear visualization provided by UML and the detailed view of the Agent-based modelling, in order to propose a new modeling perspective for the classic VRP. The paper covers the System initiation phase, in addition to, the functional, behavioral, and structural models.

Résumé :
The Colored Petri net (CPN) has evolved into a complete modeling language, which is based on the object-oriented paradigm. Although this language is quite complete and can be used to accurately model a wide variety of systems, it seems that there is a lack of certain modeling rules, which can be used to generate models based on real datasets. This paper is a first attempt to incorporate sequences of real system events and translate them into sequences of Petri net transitions. Then, well-defined modeling rules control the model generation based on these transitions. The specific entities that take part in each of the real system events, as well as their attributes are also considered. The models produced using real data are structured because, in the majority of real systems, each incurring event usually affects a part of the system. Then, this effect is propagated to the entire system. Therefore, it is much easier to divide the entire model into distinct parts when real data are used and then interconnect these parts to build an entire model. This is a very important aspect when modeling very large systems. To test our approach, we used the real data from a courier company to generate its model. Our simulation results have shown that we managed to obtain quite accurate results through the model produced by the actual data.

Résumé :
Withthe technological advent, the clustering phenomenon is recently being used in various domains and in natural language recognition. This article contributes to the clustering phenomenon of natural language and fulfills the requirements for the dynamic update of the knowledge system. This article proposes a method of dynamic knowledge extraction based on sentence clustering recognition using a neural network-based framework. The conversion process from natural language papers to object-oriented knowledge system is studied considering the related problems of sentence vectorization. This article studies the attributes of sentence vectorization using various basic definitions, judgment theorem, and postprocessing elements. The sentence clustering recognition method of the network uses the concept of prereliability as a measure of the credibility of sentence recognition results. An ART2 neural network simulation program is written using MATLAB, and the effect of the neural network on sentence recognition is utilized for the corresponding analysis. A postreliability evaluation indexing is done for the credibility of the model construction, and the implementation steps for the conjunctive rule sentence pattern are specifically introduced. A new method of structural modeling is utilized to generate the structured derivation relationship, thus completing the natural language knowledge extraction process of the object-oriented knowledge system. An application example with mechanical CAD is used in this work to demonstrate the specific implementation of the example, which confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Résumé :
A food system is composed of a complex network of activities and processes for production, distribution, transportation and consumption, which interact with each other, thus leading to changeable behaviour. Most existing empirical studies on cassava processing have focused on the technical efficiency analysis of the cassava crop processing techniques among processors indicating that the modelling of the events and operations involved in the processing of the cassava crop is highly limited. In this context, different strategies have been used to solve difficult environmental and agro-informatic systems model-based problems such as system dynamics, agent based, rule-based knowledge and mathematical modeling. However, the structural comprehension and behavioral investigation of this modeling are constrained. In this regard, formal computational modeling is a method that enables modeling and simulation of the dynamical characteristics of these food systems to be examined. In this study, the system specification is designed using Unified Modelling language (UML) to show the structural process and system design modelled and simulated using Coloured Petri Net (CPN), a formal method for analyzing the behavioural properties of complex system because of its efficient analysis. For the purpose of observing and analyzing the behaviour of the cassava food process, a series of simulation runs was proposed.

Web ontology language, which is discussed usually by people, is abbreviated as OWL. Actually, it specifically refers to the computer Web ontology language, namely a type of computer machine language. OWL is one of the very important components composing semantic Web technology. It is an ontology language that is recently offered by W3C especially for Web language, and its ontology working group makes a description to OWL through a series of documents. OWL is applicable to the description and modeling on the semantic aspects of complex data, and it can establish a flexible semantic model when a lot of complicated structures and rich semantic data are often derived in the development process of software system. All software engineering data systems are managed in modes. OWL, as an ontology language, has been widely valued in the IT industry. However, the development of OWL has been seriously restricted because it is difficult to understand.

Résumé :
Network models of language provide a systematic way of linking cognitive processes to the structure and connectivity of language. Using network growth models to capture learning, we focus on the study of the emergence of complexity in early language learners. Specifically, we capture the emergent structure of young toddler’s vocabularies through network growth models assuming underlying knowledge representations of semantic and phonological networks. In construction and analyses of these network growth models, we explore whether phonological or semantic relationships between words play a larger role in predicting network growth as these young learners add new words to their lexicon. We also examine how the importance of these semantic and phonological representations changes during the course of development. We propose a novel and significant theoretical framework for network growth models of acquisition and test the ability of these models to predict what words a specific child is likely to learn approximately one month in the future. We find that which acquisition model best fits is influenced by the underlying network representation, the assumed process of growth, and the network centrality measure used to relate the cognitive underpinnings of acquisition to network growth. The joint importance of representation, process, and the contribution of individual words to the predictive accuracy of the network model highlights the complex and multifaceted nature of early acquisition, provides new tools, and suggests experimental hypotheses for studying lexical acquisition.

Résumé :
Planning is concerned with the automated solution of action sequencing problems described in declarative languages giving the action preconditions and effects. One important application area for such technology is the creation of new processes in Business Process Management (BPM), which is essential in an ever more dynamic business environment. A major obstacle for the application of Planning in this area lies in the modeling. Obtaining a suitable model to plan with -- ideally a description in PDDL, the most commonly used planning language -- is often prohibitively complicated and/or costly. Our core observation in this work is that this problem can be ameliorated by leveraging synergies with model-based software development. Our application at SAP, one of the leading vendors of enterprise software, demonstrates that even one-to-one model re-use is possible. The model in question is called Status and Action Management (SAM). It describes the behavior of Business Objects (BO), i.e., large-scale data structures, at a level of abstraction corresponding to the language of business experts. SAM covers more than 400 kinds of BOs, each of which is described in terms of a set of status variables and how their values are required for, and affected by, processing steps (actions) that are atomic from a business perspective. SAM was developed by SAP as part of a major model-based software engineering effort. We show herein that one can use this same model for planning, thus obtaining a BPM planning application that incurs no modeling overhead at all. We compile SAM into a variant of PDDL, and adapt an off-the-shelf planner to solve this kind of problem. Thanks to the resulting technology, business experts may create new processes simply by specifying the desired behavior in terms of status variable value changes: effectively, by describing the process in their own language.

Résumé :
In this study, a multidimensional corpus English teaching model is constructed using the data-driven model. This study uses a data-driven collection of massive amounts of data to generate a multidimensional corpus. The data-driven generation of a multidimensional corpus to build a teaching model is studied, and the principle of data driven, the computational process, and the characteristics of the corpus are analyzed. Due to the deficiency of data-driven modeling without correlating process variables with quality variables, this study adopts an artificial intelligence algorithm and analyzes the basic principle, computational process, and advantages and disadvantages of the method. The model is simulated and verified for multidimensional corpus and English teaching. To address the shortcomings of the AI algorithm, which has a complex computation process and no orthogonal decomposition of the data space, the autoregressive latent structure projection algorithm is designed by integrating the autoregressive idea with the artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. This algorithm can orthogonally decompose the sample data space and simplify the modeling process. Finally, the algorithm is validated by simulation. To verify the results of the teaching model, the fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm is combined with the autoregressive latent structure projection algorithm in this study. The sample data used in the modeling are divided into categories, and the affiliation function is calculated for each category. The affiliation function is used to calculate the affiliation of the online calculation results for each category, and the final evaluation results are obtained based on the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Finally, taking junior students as an example, the simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the English teaching model. The research results show that the corpus-based English flipped classroom teaching model improves English teaching methods, enhances students’ English proficiency and independent learning ability, and provides a practical basis for English teaching model exploration.

Résumé :
Fuzzy tree automata are mathematical devices for modeling and analyzing vaguely defined tree structures. The behavior of a fuzzy tree automaton generates a fuzzy tree language by mapping a set of regular trees on a ranked alphabet to fuzzy membership values. It calculates the membership grade of trees using a set of rules that process their structural characteristics. This paper deals with constructing fuzzy tree automata models that their behavior satisfies a set of given logical propositions (called properties) on the structure of trees. Our goal is uncertainty modeling by synthesizing fuzzy tree automata whose behavior is described by fuzzy linguistic variables. In this regard, we first provide several patterns and heuristic tricks and techniques for constructing fuzzy tree automata that satisfy simple properties. Then, we develop a method for modeling complex propositional formulas based on the conversion of a logical formula into a computation tree, as well as a step-by-step combination of models.

Résumé :
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are often seen as viable sources of data for process mining analysis. To perform most of the existing process mining techniques, it is necessary to obtain a valid event log that is fully compliant with the eXtensible Event Stream (XES) standard. In ERP systems, such event logs are not available as the concept of business activity is missing. Extracting event data from an ERP database is not a trivial task and requires in-depth knowledge of the business processes and underlying data structure. Therefore, domain experts require proper techniques and tools for extracting event data from ERP databases. In this paper, we present the full specification of a domain-specific modeling language for facilitating the extraction of appropriate event data from transactional databases by domain experts. The modeling language has been developed to support complex ambiguous cases when using ERP systems. We demonstrate its applicability using a case study with real data and show that the language includes constructs that enable a domain expert to easily model data of interest in the log extraction step. The language provides sufficient information to extract and transform data from transactional ERP databases to the XES format.

Résumé :
Sentence comprehension requires inferring, from a sequence of words, the structure of syntactic relationships that bind these words into a semantic representation. Our limited ability to build some specific syntactic structures, such as nested center-embedded clauses (e.g., “The dog that the cat that the mouse bit chased ran away”), suggests a striking capacity limitation of sentence processing, and thus offers a window to understand how the human brain processes sentences. Here, we review the main hypotheses proposed in psycholinguistics to explain such capacity limitation. We then introduce an alternative approach, derived from our recent work on artificial neural networks optimized for language modeling, and predict that capacity limitation derives from the emergence of sparse and feature-specific syntactic units. Unlike psycholinguistic theories, our neural network-based framework provides precise capacity-limit predictions without making any a priori assumptions about the form of the grammar or parser. Finally, we discuss how our framework may clarify the mechanistic underpinning of language processing and its limitations in the human brain.

Résumé :
At present, warp-knitted yarn-dyed shirt fabric has become the research focus due to its comfort and highly efficient production. In order to shorten the development process of warp-knitted yarn-dyed shirt fabric, a computing method including theoretical modeling and simulation is proposed in this paper to simulate 2–5 guide bar warp-knitted yarn-dyed shirt fabric. Based on the structure model of warp-knitted fabric, a new model of geometric shape, including loops and underlap, is built according to size measurement results of the loops. In terms of the establishment of mathematical models, such as models of yarn-pressing, loop types, loop locations, guide bar threading, color and fineness, the transformation between knitting technology and mathematical language is realized. With the double buffer technique of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), loops and underlaps of each bar are displayed separately on different canvases superposed in some order. Simulation is implemented for 2–5 bar warp-knitted yarn-dyed shirt fabric via JavaScript and C# programming languages. The results indicate that this method is able to simulate diverse 2–5 bar warp-knitted yarn-dyed shirt fabrics in a short time. The pattern effect can be seen with a high similarity and practicability before it is produced, thereby shortening the development.

Purpose In this study, the authors sought to determine (a) how specific vocal fold structural and vibratory features relate to breathy voice quality and (b) the relation of perceived breathiness to 4 acoustic correlates of breathiness. Method A computational, kinematic model of the vocal fold medial surfaces was used to specify features of vocal fold structure and vibration in a manner consistent with breathy voice. Four model parameters were altered: vocal process separation, surface bulging, vibratory nodal point, and epilaryngeal constriction. Twelve naïve listeners rated breathiness of 364 samples relative to a reference. The degree of breathiness was then compared to (a) the underlying kinematic profile and (b) 4 acoustic measures: cepstral peak prominence (CPP), harmonics-to-noise ratio, and two measures of spectral slope. Results Vocal process separation alone accounted for 61.4% of the variance in perceptual rating. Adding nodal point ratio and bulging to the equation increased the explained variance to 88.7%. The acoustic measure CPP accounted for 86.7% of the variance in perceived breathiness, and explained variance increased to 92.6% with the addition of one spectral slope measure. Conclusion Breathiness ratings were best explained kinematically by the degree of vocal process separation and acoustically by CPP.

SummaryObjective: To describe and compare logistic regression and neural network modeling strategies to predict hospital admission or transfer following initial presentation to Emergency Department (ED) triage with and without the addition of natural language processing elements. Methods: Using data from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS), a cross-sectional probability sample of United States EDs from 2012 and 2013 survey years, we developed several predictive models with the outcome being admission to the hospital or transfer vs. discharge home. We included patient characteristics immediately available after the patient has presented to the ED and undergone a triage process. We used this information to construct logistic regression (LR) and multilayer neural network models (MLNN) which included natural language processing (NLP) and principal component analysis from the patient’s reason for visit. Ten-fold cross validation was used to test the predictive capacity of each model and receiver operating curves (AUC) were then calculated for each model. Results: Of the 47,200 ED visits from 642 hospitals, 6,335 (13.42%) resulted in hospital admission (or transfer). A total of 48 principal components were extracted by NLP from the reason for visit fields, which explained 75% of the overall variance for hospitalization. In the model including only structured variables, the AUC was 0.824 (95% CI 0.818-0.830) for logistic regression and 0.823 (95% CI 0.817-0.829) for MLNN. Models including only free-text information generated AUC of 0.742 (95% CI 0.7310.753) for logistic regression and 0.753 (95% CI 0.742-0.764) for MLNN. When both structured variables and free text variables were included, the AUC reached 0.846 (95% CI 0.839-0.853) for logistic regression and 0.844 (95% CI 0.836-0.852) for MLNN.Conclusions: The predictive accuracy of hospital admission or transfer for patients who presented to ED triage overall was good, and was improved with the inclusion of free text data from a patient’s reason for visit regardless of modeling approach. Natural language processing and neural networks that incorporate patient-reported outcome free text may increase predictive accuracy for hospital admission.

Résumé :
This paper presents a novel knowledge-based Petri net approach to mechanical systems and assemblies modeling within a design with objects environment. A new unified class of object-oriented knowledge Petri nets, which can incorporate a knowledge-based system with ordinary Petri nets, is defined and used for the unified representations of assembly design and modeling. The object knowledge Petri nets, as a graphical language and a new knowledge-based description scheme, can be used to express the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the assembly design and modeling process in an interactive and integrated way. The four-level hierarchy model is proposed and constructed in terms of function-behaviors, structures, geometries, and features. The function-behavior-structure description is built on more abstract concepts so that it can match well top-down design. The static and dynamic characteristics in the design of assembly can also be captured. With the help of fuzzy logic, the incomplete, imprecise knowledge and uncertainty in the design process can also be dealt with. Therefore, the hybrid design object model can incorporate product data model, top-down design process, and assembly process model using an object-oriented, knowledge-based, feature-based, parametric, and constraint-based modeling approach, and can provide a more accurate and more flexible representation. To verify and demonstrate the effective use of the proposed hybrid design object model, a prototype system has been developed. This research provides a knowledge-intensive framework for intelligent assembly design and modeling.

Résumé :
Subject. The study focuses on a set of financial and economic indicators of corporate performance and metrics of the financial market actors’ sentiment, financial indicators in markets and the way they change over time as markets face dramatic events. The article discusses techniques for applying the information of the financial and economic condition in modeling based on structured word language. Objectives. Analyzing key Russian and foreign sentiment measurement means, I try to create a toolkit, which would be applicable to the valuation and provides a balanced view of the financial and economic condition of companies with reference to the market sentiment. Methods. The article applies methods of induction and deduction, modeling. I demonstrate the relationship of methods and the methodology with new technological means of modern IT systems. Results. Modeling the completion of forecasts, plans and measuring the sentiment, I discovered that key statements and behavioral finance mechanisms manifested in the process. Modeling based on two scenarios and two types of models appeared to be the most illustrative. When forecasts, profit and revenue turn to be higher than expected and when they are lower. Studying bubbles in financial markets, I coined a respective model tested with cases of air lines. The applicable tests, such as the quality of revenue, percentage of deferred income in revenue, sentiment index of the companies show that revenue indicators and sentiment indices are on average poorer in companies with the worst indicators on the sample. Conclusions and Relevance. Given new capabilities of modern information systems, financial analysts get more opportunities for programming, creating user models with needed configurations and extensive database. There we have simplified primary data collection and processing when financial analysts use the data. The findings are applicable to practices of modern appraisers, cost and fundamental analysts. The use of models herein supplements and expands a conventional set of valuation tools and improves the quality of valuation.

Résumé :
This article develops and tests a theoretical cognitive-affective process model of the hostile media effect (HME). To explain the HME, scholars have mainly focused on cognitive involvement, that is, the extent to which an issue is of personal importance. In addition, we introduce the notion of affective involvement and hypothesize three distinct routes responsible for a HME: a cognitive, an affective, and a cognitive-affective route. Simultaneously collected representative survey data from the United States, Norway, and France employing country-invariant measures provide clear evidence that the three routes each and independently drive the HME. Theoretical and methodological implications of these findings are discussed.

Résumé :
A business process architecture (BPA) model depicts business processes in an organization and their relations. An artifact for generating BPA models is proposed as the outcome of a design science research project. The proposed artifact consists of a method (i.e., a set of concepts, a proposed notation, and a detailed procedure), which is termed the domain-based BPA (dBPA) method due to using domain models as a starting point. The dBPA method tackles issues of currently available approaches: lack of structured inputs, limited consideration of process relations types, and restricted use of industry-standard modeling languages. The paper formalizes the dBPA method and illustrates its application in the manufacturing industry. Evaluation of the dBPA method revealed that practitioners perceived it as useful to achieve its goal with the benefits of being objective and clear and allowing to create complete and understandable BPA models that enable the integration of processes and the software that automates them.

Résumé :
This work studies the problems of teaching foreign languages in modern education, namely in technical universities, are studied. The article highlights the features of modeling the system of teaching foreign languages. The purpose of the article is to study models of teaching in pedagogy and didactics, using examples proposed by various scientists on the methodology of teaching foreign languages in technical universities. Some methodological principles and features of teaching a foreign language at a technical university are considered, based on the criterion for the development of professional competence. The current technologies of teaching a foreign language to students in higher technical school are highlighted, the final result of which is the transition from mastering language means to the formation of speech skills in students and the development of speech skills. The specificity of the contingent of students of a technical university is that the curriculum includes mastering a foreign language as a means of further self-education and self-development, and modern youth are well aware of the advantages of knowing a foreign language. The paper analyzes modern foreign language teaching in a technical university within the framework of a personality-oriented educational approach, on the basis of different methodological approaches, discloses the concepts of the educational process as a system consisting of the proposed structural components - the hierarchy of learning goals, information technology support of the educational process, student, teacher. The characteristic features of the system of teaching foreign languages in technical universities, which takes into account the peculiarities of the educational space of a modern university, are highlighted and described. The introduction of this system will bring the teaching of foreign languages to a new level that meets the modern requirements for training specialists.

Résumé :
SummaryObjective: Patient safety event data repositories have the potential to dramatically improve safety if analyzed and leveraged appropriately. These safety event reports often consist of both structured data, such as general event type categories, and unstructured data, such as free text descriptions of the event. Analyzing these data, particularly the rich free text narratives, can be challenging, especially with tens of thousands of reports. To overcome the resource intensive manual review process of the free text descriptions, we demonstrate the effectiveness of using an unsupervised natural language processing approach. Methods: An unsupervised natural language processing technique, called topic modeling, was applied to a large repository of patient safety event data to identify topics, or themes, from the free text descriptions of the data. Entropy measures were used to evaluate and compare these topics to the general event type categories that were originally assigned by the event reporter. Results: Measures of entropy demonstrated that some topics generated from the un-supervised modeling approach aligned with the clinical general event type categories that were originally selected by the individual entering the report. Importantly, several new latent topics emerged that were not originally identified. The new topics provide additional insights into the patient safety event data that would not otherwise easily be detected. Conclusion: The topic modeling approach provides a method to identify topics or themes that may not be immediately apparent and has the potential to allow for automatic reclassification of events that are ambiguously classified by the event reporter.
