Résumé :
The concept of the stoplist – a list of the words not indexed – is related to indexable matter, to the arrangement of subentries in indexes, and to search engine optimization. Stoplists were thought to have been developed in the 1950s in conjunction with automatic indexing, but a fifteenth-century Hebrew concordance to the Bible, Me’ir Nativ , contains a stoplist that is very similar to modern ones, consisting of function words such as prepositions. Since the Hebrew concordance was modeled on the Latin biblical concordance of Arlottus, which does not contain a stoplist, Me’ir Nativ must be regarded as the first example of this structure. Although stopwords were omitted from the earliest Latin concordances (without listing them), subsequent theological debate about the meanings of Latin function words led to the compilation of special concordances of such words. Current research by the author focuses on the importance of similar small words to the Masoretes, who were concerned about preserving an accurate text of the Hebrew Bible, and may possibly have had an index of such words.

Since the coronavirus outbreak or known as COVID-19 spread throughout the world, especially in Indonesia. The Governor of DKI Jakarta issued several policies to deal with the spread of COVID-19. However, this policy has become a conversation on social media such as Youtube. Through audience interaction in the comments column, giving lots of positive and negative sentiment comments, the audience response is classified using the sentiment analysis technique of comments to find out which sentiments are positive, negative, and neutral for each comment. In this study, the data were taken from news video comments. The method used is the Support Vector Machine and the selection feature uses the Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF). The data used amounted to 945 Indonesian language comments. Accurate results obtained by using the addition of a stoplist at the preprocessing stage a.

Résumé :
Sentiment analysis is an essential process which is important to many natural language applications. In this paper, we apply two models for Arabic sentiment analysis to the ASTD and ATDFS datasets, in both 2-class and multiclass forms. Model MC1 is a 2-layer CNN with global average pooling, followed by a dense layer. MC2 is a 2-layer CNN with max pooling, followed by a BiGRU and a dense layer. On the difficult ASTD 4-class task, we achieve 73.17%, compared to 65.58% reported by Attia et al., 2018. For the easier 2-class task, we achieve 90.06% with MC1 compared to 85.58% reported by Kwaik et al., 2019. We carry out experiments on various data splits, to match those used by other researchers. We also pay close attention to Arabic preprocessing and include novel steps not reported in other works. In an ablation study, we investigate the effect of two steps in particular, the processing of emoticons and the use of a custom stoplist. On the 4-class task, these can make a difference of up to 4.27% and 5.48%, respectively. On the 2-class task, the maximum improvements are 2.95% and 3.87%.

Introduction: Introduction: A variety of pain assessment tools exist for children, however none of the current scales were created specifically for family use. Further, none provide direct guidance with regards to pain treatment threshold. This study aimed to validate a novel, three faced, coloured coded (red, yellow, green), family-friendly pain tool, the Stoplight Pain Scale, by comparing it to the widely accepted and validated Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R). This novel tool has the capability to guide families with regards to treatment, as well as measure pain. Methods: Methods: A prospective observational cohort study was conducted at the Stollery Childrens Hospital emergency department (ED) (Edmonton, Alberta) from November, 2014 to February, 2017. Demographic information was collected, and patients (3-12 years) and their caregivers were asked to rate their pain using the novel Stoplight Pain Scale as well as the FPS-R. Pain was measured at presentation to the ED, immediately following painful procedures, and thirty minutes after analgesia administration. Patients and their caregivers also indicated their preferred scale for assessing pain. Results: Results: A purposeful random sample of 227 patients were included for analyses; 61/227 (26.9%) of patients were 3-5 years old and 166/227 (73.1%)were 6-12 years old. 53/227 (23.3%) of patients had been previously hospitalized. Correlation between the two pain scales was consistently fair to moderate; using Kappa Statistics, a baseline correlation for Stoplight and FPS-R was fair for both caregivers (0.38, 95% CI 0.28 0.48) and patients (0.36 95% CI 0.27-0.45). The Stoplight Pain Scale had fair to moderate correlation between caregiver and patient scores, (0.37, 95% CI 0.27-0.47), compared to FPS-R which showed poor to fair agreement between caregiver and child scores (0.20, 95% CI 0.12-0.29). Regardless of age or hospitalization status, 64% of patients (139/218) and 54% caregivers (118/220) preferred the Stoplight Pain scale (p=0.001). Conclusion: Conclusions: The Stoplight Pain Scale correlates moderately well with FPS-R, a validated pain assessment tool for children and shows good correlation between patients and caregivers assessment of reported pain. The Stoplight Pain Scale is a simple, easy to administer tool that may have a role in empowering family involvement in ED pain management. Future research should focus on at-home study of the tool.

Cardwell, James Robert. « Behavioural endocrinology of the stoplight parrotfish, Sparisoma viride, Scaridae, a protogynous coral reef fish ». Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/29067.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The behavioural endocrinology of a protogynous coral reef fish, the stoplight parrotfish (Sparisoma viride, Scaridae) was investigated at Glover's Reef, Belize. Detailed behavioural observations in the field were combined with radioimmunoassay of steroids circulating in plasma (11-ketotestosterone, testosterone and 17[sub β]-estradiol) and histological examination of gonads to obtain precise correlations of behaviour, colouration and gonadal condition with endocrine status. The size, sex and colour phase distribution, together with histological analysis suggests that some individuals of this species undergo sex change as mature adult females, while others change sex as immature individuals, becoming functional males without passing through a female phase. Furthermore, some individuals change sex and colour phase simultaneously while others retain female-like 'initial phase' (Iph) colouration and function as Iph males before acquiring 'terminal phase' (Tph) colouration. Large Tph males defend permanent, all-purpose territories on which they pair-spawn daily with the females of a harem group. Smaller Tph males (bachelors) neither defend territories, nor spawn, but feed in groups and inhabit overlapping home-ranges. Females also inhabit overlapping home-ranges within the confines of a Tph male's territory. They spawn with the same male every day at high tide. Iph males are rare in this population. They spawn by releasing milt into the gamete cloud left after a pair-spawning event. Iph males also pair-spawn with females in the absence of Tph males. Sex change is correlated with the onset of 11-ketotestosterone production, and a dramatic decrease in plasma levels of estradiol. This is the first report to show that a naturally-occurring androgen increases in plasma concentration during sex change in a protogynous marine species. Administration of 11-ketotestosterone promotes sex and colour change in adult females. Thus, 11-ketotestosterone appears to play a key role in sex and colour phase change in this species. Males that retain Iph colouration after sex change have lower levels of 11-ketotestosterone (undetectable) and higher levels of estradiol than Tph males or males with transitional colouration. This suggests that estradiol may suppress colour phase change in Iph males. Bachelor Tph males have lower levels of testosterone and 11-ketotestosterone than territorial males. Bachelors rapidly take over experimentally vacated territories, confinning the hypothesis that they are normally excluded from suitable habitat by territorial males. One week after territory acquisition, 11-ketotestosterone and testosterone increase to levels over and above those in undisturbed territorial males, but by three weeks, androgen levels are not significantly different from those in undisturbed territorial males. Simulated territorial intrusion promoted increased androgen production in Tph males, while access to territories without neighbours did not. Thus, the pattern of androgen production seen after territory acquisition is due to interactions with neighbouring males during territory boundary re-establishment. Increased levels of androgen during territorial challenges may promote increased aggressiveness and territorial vigilance, thereby increasing the chances of successfully defending against the challenge. These findings are discussed in light of recent theory in behavioural endocrinology.

Résumé :

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of the Stoplight Diet on triglyceride (TO) levels. Additionally, this study investigated the efficacy by mode of intervention (Usual Care MOVE!, ASPIRE-Group, ASPIRE-Phone). Specifically, this study examined the percent change in TO levels by: (a) percent change in the consumption of "red" foods and (b) mode of intervention (Usual Care MOVE!, ASPIRE-Group, ASPIRE-Phone).

In this study, 84 purposely selected participant log books were collected from the three ASPIRE-VA study groups: Usual Care MOVE!, ASPIRE-Group, and ASPIRE-Phone. Among those selected, 18 were excluded from this study due to incomplete meal records (3 or more entire days missing) or absent TO measurements, thus resulting in a total of 66 participants who were analyzed; 27 from ASPIRE-Phone, 22 from ASPIRE-Group, and 17 from Usual Care MOVE!. Data on participants' TO levels and dietary intake of red foods was analyzed at baseline and 3 months which was then coded and entered into SPSS (version 20.0, 2012).

Newell, Ashley Michelle. « Does capability measurement enable aspiration during emergent adulthood ? Examining 'Poverty Stoplight' as a poverty measurement and capability building instrument for youth in South Africa ». Master's thesis, Faculty of Commerce, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/32315.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
In South Africa, the majority of youth entering emerging adulthood find themselves in a protracted struggle to access further education, training or to secure their first decent job. The purpose of this multi-case study is to deepen the understanding of how capability measurement approaches and tools can empower marginalized youth to better understand their aspirations and map their way through emerging adulthood and out of poverty. This research aims to deepen the understanding of youth's experience utilizing 'Poverty Stoplight'; a poverty measurement and capability building instrument that utilizes a self-assessment survey and mentorship methodology. The researcher utilized a youth-focused participatory approach in conducting focus groups and in-depth one-on-one interviews across five marginalized communities in the Western Cape to gain insight into their experience using the tool, their ability to envision their future selves and develop their aspirations. What emerged from the data were insights into the youth's aspirations, the perceived enabling factors and impediments towards their aspirations and their experiences utilizing Poverty Stoplight. This process enabled youth to genuinely reflect and assess their situation, and have the opportunity to define their aspirations. Overall the Poverty Stoplight programme was experienced as empowering by participants, with several implications for the programme pertaining to data accessibility, communication, mentorship and solution sharing, as well as the importance of youth-specific participatory approaches. Aligned to this, the findings yielded several recommendations pertaining to providing support and enabling opportunities for emerging adults to realise their aspirations. Despite the limitations of this research, this study is relevant for stakeholders in South Africa and globally as it examines the critical issue of youth development, with a focus on the ability of young people to attain their aspirations. Further, it analyses the capability measurement approach as a means to ensuring young people can better understand and plot their way out of poverty, making the most of their individual capabilities and attributes within the broader structural and systemic challenges they face. This exploration of practical tools and methodologies being developed and utilized by pioneering organisations in the South African context provides empirical evidence of the merit of such approaches, with recommendations on how tools and approaches can even better serve the needs of youth. Further, longitudinal research is merited into the use of such capability measurement approaches to empower youth and the further use of participatory methodologies.

« The Poverty Stoplight : A New Metric For Microfinance ». Tulane University Digital Library, 2016.

Résumé :
The Poverty Stoplight is a tool that has been implemented in Paraguay since 2010 to measure poverty. It is a self-diagnostic visual survey to assist poor families to assess their level of poverty across the 50 indicators and to develop personalized poverty elimination plans. The tool uses stoplight colors (red, yellow, and green), illustrations, maps, electronic tablets, and simple software to create dashboards and indexes. Although it can be used in a wide variety of settings, it was created in order to fill a gap that exists among poverty measurement tools that are used by the microfinance industry. Most of these tools are focused on monetary poverty, and only one uses a constructivist approach to understand poverty. Despite trends in academic literature to consider poverty a multidimensional phenomenon and to measure poverty through hybrid positivist and constructivist methods, the Poverty Stoplight is the only tool used by the microfinance industry that attempts to accomplish this. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to the academic literature by analyzing the practical benefits and difficulties that measuring multidimensional poverty through a combination of epistemological paradigms entails. To do so, in this dissertation I evaluate the robustness of a specific implementation of these two trends: the metric aspect of the Poverty Stoplight. In order to do this, I seek to answer four research questions: is the Poverty Stoplight (1) reliable, (2) valid, (3) practical and (4) does it have discriminatory power"u2014from a positivist and constructivist point of view. My analysis is based on data I collected through four methods: (1) application of the visual survey tool, (2) focus groups, (3) semi-structured interviews, and a (4) participatory wealth ranking. While results suggest that there is test-retest reliability, consequential validity, content validity and criterion-related validity, problems related to generalizability compromise internal consistency reliability and construct validity. Taken as a whole, the Poverty Stoplight has limited robustness. I end this dissertation with recommendations to make it a more robust tool, such as separating the Poverty Stoplight metric from the coaching methodology or reformulating indicators and dimensions in order for these to better represent poverty.

Résumé :
Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand in ful llment of the requirements for the degree of: Master of Science in Physics School of Physics 2019
The Tile Calorimeter (TileCal) is the central hadronic calorimeter of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The TileCal is essential for provid- ing highly-segmented energy measurements for incident particles. The Tile-Muon trigger system is used for the detection of interesting muon events using the out- ermost radial layers (D5 and D6 cells) of the TileCal system in coincidence with the ATLAS muon chambers. The main source of the Level-1 Muon-Trigger back- ground in the end-cap region is low momentum protons scattering o magnets and shielding in the forward region. They produce correlated hits leading to co- incidences in the trigger muon chambers up to the highest transverse momentum muon threshold. Requiring a coincidence with some other detectors lying inside the toroid magnets and shielding lowers the fake event trigger rate. The Tile Muon Digitizer Board (TMDB) was designed and is responsible for digitizing the analogue muon trigger output from the D5 and D6 cells. Hardware or rmware failures of the TMDB can lead to a permanent busy assertion. The Tile-Muon trigger system requires functionalities that will aid in detecting changes in the conditions of an asserted permanent busy. This dissertation presents the hard- ware and the implementation of the stopless removal software for the Level-1 Tile-Muon Trigger system of the TileCal.

Résumé :
Abstract The period of Purcell’s lifetime saw a transformation and expansion of the English organ. With the stimulus of Dutch and French influences, the stoplist, layout, pitch, and compass changed. The study of the organ in seventeenth-century England is still in its infancy, but an outline has emerged from recent research which shows the inadequacy of the standard accounts. English organ-building history has a tendency to be picturesque, relying on anecdote and the pronouncements of famous men. At its best, it has unearthed a mass of documentary references, churchwardens’ accounts, the odd contract, letters and diaries, and so on. Researchers are now starting to add the available archaeological evidence, and are adding to, verifying, and reinterpreting the documentary source material. It should not be too many years before enough information has been accumulated to justify a statistical analysis. We will then be able to give a good picture of developments and variations.

The boy got out of the Marines to give himself to God, to his wife, to the bullet factory eleven miles outside a town outgrowing its one stoplight. Cars pile up at shift change, block the highway. The ambulance drives the shoulder when there is one, wails like something tied up, hungry....
