Résumé :
We study optimal monetary stabilization policy in a DSGE model with microfounded money demand. A search externality creates “congestion,” which causes aggregate output to be inefficient. Because of the informational frictions that give rise to money, households are unable to insure themselves perfectly against aggregate shocks. This gives rise to a welfare-improving role for monetary policy that works by adjusting the nominal interest rate in response to these shocks. Optimal policy is determined by choosing a set of state-contingent nominal interest rates to maximize the expected lifetime utility of the agents subject to the constraints of being an equilibrium.

Résumé :
Road works and other civil works involve large amounts of materials and earth movements that could be minimized with the best use of material from the construction site itself, through the process of improving the soil obtained from the union with materials able to add resistance. This is because, when the soil is loaded, it tends to deform and this disturbance alters the load flow of the structure, modifying the effort value achieved in the project. For these reasons, the objective of this work was to analyze the mechanical resistance of materials applied in the improvement and stabilization of soils. Therefore, knowing the lineage of this theme, this study was developed with the intention of identifying, in the literature, consistent treatments that favor the inheritance of soil resistance. This is an integrative review carried out on scientific data sources: Scientific Electronic Online Library (SciELO) and Google Scholar. Searches for studies were carried out from August to December 2022. The descriptors selected to search for data were: road works, soil improvement and soil stabilization. The inclusion criteria for the selection of scientific articles were: articles published from 2001 to 2017, in Portuguese; monographs, theses, dissertations, available and complete articles. Exclusion criteria were: publications of repeated articles in databases. To implement soil stabilization, many issues need to be persistent, in the study one of them was that the cement presents stable performance in soil stabilization, reaching SSI rates above 80% for base according to DNIT. As well as the alternative materials, they present the values for application in base and subgrade, with the superior capacity of 2% of ISC for the subgrade when applied with sludge ash and lime reaching the guidelines for use in the base.

Abstract In order to solve the problem of aerial photography imaging blur, an aerial camera optical image stabilization system is designed. Based on the principle of optical image stabilization, a forward image stabilization system of aerial camera was designed by analyzing the imaging blur of aerial camera. The equivalent resolution of the system is 500-1000 l p/mm, and the corresponding pixel size is 1-2 μm. Aiming at the optical image stabilization system to establish its PID and corresponding adaptive PID control model, establish its closed-loop system transfer function, and use MATLAB to simulate and analyze the control system. The results show that the whole image stabilization system becomes stable after 0.01s and can achieve the goal of image stabilization. It solves the problem of forward image motion of aerial camera, and greatly improves the imaging effect of aerial camera when it works.

Résumé :
Soft marine clay soil is characterized with highly compressible behavior, in which associated with poor bearing capacity and low in shear resistance. Soil improvement works are carried out to reduce the soil failure and destruction to the superstructure. Various techniques available for soil stabilization including the use of admixture to improve the engineering properties of the problematic soil. This paper aims to report on the use of waste steel dust retrieved from the medication supply industry as soil stabilization agent. Several series of Atterberg limit test and Unconfined Compressive Test were carried out to foresee the potential use of the waste steel dust for the purpose of civil engineering applications. The significant findings from this study is evident that the waste steel dust ranges from 5% to 15% did not able to serve as soil stabilization agent. It can reduce the plastic behavior of the soil sample; however, it also caused the strength of the soil declined. In comparison with previous studies, the presence of activated agent could possibly enhance the performance of waste steel dust as an alternative treatment agent to soil improvement works. The use of activated agent is to serve as pozzolanic materials to create cementitious bonding in between the soil interparticles matrix.

Résumé :
Chemical stabilization involves the use of chemical agents for initiating reactions within the soil for modification of its geotechnical properties. Cement and lime stabilization have been the most common stabilization methods adopted for soil treatment. Cement stabilization results in good compressive strengths and is preferred for cohesionless to moderately cohesive soil but loses effectiveness when the soil is highly plastic. Lime stabilization is the most preferred method for plastic clays; however, it proves to be ineffective in sulphate rich clays and performs poorly under extreme conditions. With such drawbacks, lots of researches have been undertaken to address the issues faced with each stabilization method, in particular, the use of solid wastes for soil stabilization. Solid waste reuse has gained high momentum for achieving sustainable waste management in recent times. Research has shown that the use of solid wastes as additives with and replacement for conventional stabilizers has resulted in better results than the performance of either individually. This review provides insight into some of the works done by earlier researchers on lime/cement stabilization with industrial wastes as additives and helps to form a sound platform for further research on industrial wastes as additives to conventional stabilizers.

Résumé :
This work reports the use of a head-motion monitoring system to record patient head movements while completing in-home exercises for vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Based upon a dual-axis gyroscope (yaw and pitch, ± 500-degrees/sec maximum), angular head rotations were measured and stored via an on-board memory card. The system enabled the clinician to document exercises at home. Several measurements were recorded in one patient with unilateral vestibular hypofunction: The total time of exercise for the week (118 minutes) was documented and compared with expected weekly exercise time (140 minutes). For gaze stabilization exercises, execution time of 60 sec was expected, and observed times ranged from 75-100 sec. An absence of rest periods between each exercise instead of the recommended one minute rest period was observed. Maximum yaw head velocities from approximately 100-350 degrees/sec were detected. A second subject provided feedback concerning the ease of use of the HAMMS device. This pilot study demonstrates, for the first time, the capability to capture the head-motion “signature” of a patient while completing vestibular rehabilitation exercises in the home and to extract exercise regime parameters and monitor patient adherence. This emerging technology has the potential to greatly improve rehabilitation outcomes for individuals completing in-home gaze stabilization exercises 1 .

Résumé :
ABSTRACT The purpose of this research study on family stabilization is to identify whether this program is working while CalWORKs participants are achieving their educational goals. Family stabilization is a county program that assists those who need supportive services in domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness. The first phase was to assess the participant’s knowledge and understanding of the family stabilization program. The second phase involved a focus group, who could express their questions or concerns regarding the family stabilization program. The final stage was to review and interpret the information provided, in hopes to clarify the participants understanding of the family stabilization program is and the services that are available. Results of this study could not answer the proposed research question, Family Stabilization: Does it Work? There was a lack of significance regrading knowledge of the family stabilization program from the CalWORKs participants. This study does show that communication between the participants and the county offices needs improvement; especially on the availability of programs. The weakness pertained to the sample size and duration of the research project. I do find the research as creditable due to the personal interviews pertaining to their understanding of family stabilization. To completely understand how this research project was conducted and analyzed, readers need a fairly refined knowledge of social science research methods.

Résumé :
This study is produced by the House of Restoration which is located in Phenix City, Alabama, to examine some interventions used in the attempt to create stability of an individual or family. The individuals and families focused on was from October 2001 through September 2004. For the purpose of this evaluation, interventions are defined as a system of help that created a change in an individual or families situation. Stabilization is defined as an individual or family that remains in housing for a period of three continuous years. The evaluation measured stabilization using the House of Restoration Stabilization Questionnaire (HORQ), which consists of 11 open and closed ended questions. An evaluation of 25 families and 15 individuals who have requested shelter was selected at random from the House of Restoration caseload. Respondents were reinterviewed after a three years period. Individuals and families with two or more periods of history in a shelter will be excluded from the follow up study. The results of the study will show that interventions demographic characteristics and housing conditions were the most important risk factors for shelter entry; enduring poverty and disruptive social experiences also contributed. Receipt of one or more interventions such as subsidized housing is believed to be a primary predictor of stability among formerly homeless families.

Résumé :
Introduction: Musculoskeletal discomfort in the neck and shoulders is common among workers performing visually demanding near work, e.g., on a computer screen, and sustained low-level muscle activity during such work can lead to work-related pain. The relationships between visual demands and muscle activity and discomfort in the neck/shoulder region are at present unclear. Aim: The aims of this thesis were to determine whether neck/shoulder discomfort and trapezius muscle activity increases during visually demanding experimental near work, and to investigate whether eye-lens accommodation is a mediating mechanism behind increased trapezius muscle activity. Methods: The four papers included are based on two experiments with different visually demanding near work tasks (duration 5 and 7 min). Trial lenses of different diopters were used to manipulate the visual demands (i.e., induce more or less accommodation) and thereby create different viewing conditions. Monocular viewing, which does not require active convergence, was used to examine the isolated effect of accommodation. Eye-lens accommodation and trapezius muscle activity were measured continuously during the visual tasks, and in one experiment the participants rated their eye and neck/shoulder discomfort at baseline and after each visual task. Results: Neck/shoulder discomfort and trapezius muscle activity increased during the visually demanding near work and participants experiencing a greater increase in eye discomfort (compared with baseline) also developed more neck/shoulder discomfort with time. There were no significant differences in muscle activity among the viewing conditions, and no effect of isolated accommodation response within the monocular viewing conditions. Conclusion: These findings indicate that accommodation per se is unlikely to mediate trapezius muscle activity. Instead, the increase in trapezius muscle activity observed here may be due to a combination of high visual attention and enhanced requirement for eye-neck (head) stabilisation. Since these results suggest that neck/shoulder discomfort may aggravate with time when the visual demands are high, it is important to provide good visual conditions in connection with visually demanding occupations.

The increasing volume of waste of all kinds is currently a phenomenon of economically developed society and one of the problems of environmental protection. It is therefore imperative, in the interest of sustainable development, to monitor impacts related to the impact on our ecology, to regulate waste production by legislation and universally promote their reuse and recycling. Construction and demolition waste occupy a significant share of the total waste volume. This category also includes excavated soils. Recycling of these materials could significantly reduce the amount of landfilled waste and at the same time, these materials could be used as an important source of secondary raw materials. The doctoral thesis describes the research and development of the new technology of reuse soils in the form of self-compacting grouts. The result of the solution will be a suspension of optimal rheological properties, providing a perfect leaking around the stored utility networks. Emphasis will be placed on the study of the interaction of different types of soils with the stabilizers, flowable or plasticizing additives and its typical dispersible substance, including verification of the developed technology in situ.

Résumé :
<p>The Christchurch Town Hall (CTH) complex contains six reinforced concrete buildings constructed circa 1970 in Christchurch, New Zealand (NZ). The complex is used for performing arts and entertainment, with an Auditorium that is internationally recognized for its acoustics. It is listed as a Grade-1 heritage building due to its cultural and historical significance. Unfortunately, the CTH foundation system was not originally designed to accommodate liquefaction-induced differential settlement and lateral spreading effects, as highlighted by the 2010–2011 Canterbury earthquake sequence. Although the most extreme ground motions exceeded the NZS 1170.5 code-defined 1/2500 year earthquake loads, the CTH structures performed remarkably well for a design that pre-dated modern seismic codes. Most of the observed structural damage was a result of the differential ground deformations, rather than in response to inertial forces. The post-earthquake observations and signs of distress are presented herein. The primary focus of this paper is to describe two major features of the seismic retrofit project (initiated in 2013) which were required to upgrade the CTH complex to meet 100% of current NZS 1170.5 seismic loadings. Firstly, the upgrade required extensive ground improvement and a new reinforce concrete mat slab to mitigate the impacts future ground deformations. Soil stabilization was provided by a cellular arrangement of jet-grout columns, a relatively new technique to NZ at the time. The new mat slab (typically 600-900 mm) was constructed over the stabilized soils. Secondly, upgrading the superstructure had many constraints that were overcome via a performance-based design approach, using non-linear time-history analysis. Recognizing the heritage significance, the superstructure “resurrection” as a modern building was hidden within the original skin minimized disruption of heritage fabric. Retrofit solutions were targeted, which also minimized the overall works. The 2015–2019 construction phase is briefly discussed within, including jet-grout procedures and sequencing considerations.</p>

Résumé :
AbstractThe worldwide increasing number of national guidelines and growing experience with realized green bank protections (constructions using insofar possible living or at least wooden construction material) in navigable waters, led to install a PIANC INCOM Working Group (WG) to collect and condense expert knowledge in this field of work and prepare it for practitioners for design purposes. The corresponding PIANC report, called “Technical-Biological Bank Protections for Inland Waterways”, is foreseen to be released this year. The report, whose structure, content, key findings and approach will be highlighted briefly in this contribution to the Smart Rivers Conference, tries to overcome the usual problems in design cases, which need knowledge and experience of civil engineers, eco-engineers and ecologists altogether and the way how the success of bank stabilization measures will be noticed and rated. The WG members had to notice that functionality assessment is not that simple, whereby partly huge differences between those who designed, realized and maintained measures and external parties as well as cultural differences occurred. To overcome these problems and thus to objectivize the choice and layout of alternative solutions, which may help to convince people responsible for waterway development and maintenance to use green measures instead of traditional bank protections as riprap, a Best Practice Approach was developed, based on a catalogue of numerous realized measures, which are described e.g. in so-called Fact Files. The content of these descriptions, especially the local boundary conditions (BCs shortly in the following) and the balance between aims and achieved functionality issues, was used to assess the possible suitability of a chosen measure under generally different design conditions than those in the described realizations. This was achieved inter alia by a scoring system, assessing differences between Design- (DC) and Analysis Cases (shortly ACs from the catalogue of measures), which is called Feasibility Check (it answers the question, whether experiences made with the AC-cases can be transferred to the DC) and differences between user-specified aims in the DC and expected performance issues from the ACs, called “Suitability Check” (answers the question, how far expected functionality issues may probably be achievable). This was done both for technical and ecological issues, whereby the scores were chosen and reviewed interdisciplinary and internationally to overcome the aforementioned assessment differences.

Résumé :
Stable and reliable legged locomotion is critical for humans and humanoid robots. In the study of legged locomotion, simple models consisting of point-mass bodies and massless legs with telescoping actuators have been insightful. Several variants have been used, including the telescoping leg as a general force actuator [1], a simple passive linear or nonlinear spring [2], and a spring in series with a general force actuator [3]. These models serve as analogs that simplify the problem of understanding the mechanics of legged locomotion of real animals. One of defects of these simple models is the representation of the body by a point mass. Hence, trunk stabilization is not addressed. Nevertheless, this is a major problem in human and humanoid locomotion. In this study we propose a novel decoupled strategy to stabilize the trunk. First, we describe how this decoupled strategy works theoretically. Then, we present a case study based on the CT-SLIP model. Finally, we summarize the work and its expected impacts.

Résumé :
Laser beams are usually unstable in terms of their pointing direction because of fluctuations of the resonant cavity. This angular fluctuation of laser beams can be somewhat reduced with a servomechanism.1,2 My approach uses an optical system capable of self-compensating the angular fluctuation of the laser. Because no servomechanism is required, the beam stabilizer reacts instantaneously. The stabilizer essentially uses the self-compensation principle. The input beam is first divided into two perpendicularly polarized beams, that then combine to form the output beam. Because the angular fluctuation of the input beam causes the two perpendicularly polarized component beams to deviate in exactly opposite directions, the angular error of the combined beam is automatically cancelled. This system works well for Gaussian beams, either cw or pulsed. The design and analysis of the proposed beam stabilizer are provided. Experimental demonstrations are also given.

Résumé :
Advanced rotor systems today consist of a lightweight rotor supported by radial active magnetic bearings. It has been shown in previous works that composite materials have high energy dissipation characteristics, mainly due to internal damping. In applications where the rotor speed is subcritical, this property is of low concern, whereas at supercritical speeds the effect of internal damping should not be ignored due to instability effects described in detail later. Therefore, it is essential that one must have a detailed understanding of the sources and effects of internal damping in these structures. This work addresses the application of Adaptive Disturbance Rejection control method to deal with the rotordynamic instability caused by internal damping and synchronous vibrations caused by mass imbalance in a rotor system operating at supercritical speed. The simulated system is a slim, flexible shaft represented by a 73-node finite element model. A detailed description of the problems and the strategies for addressing them are discussed.

Résumé :
During the execution of works on the E-75 highway, Belgrade-Niš - the border with FYR Macedonia, on section Gornje Polje - Caričina Dolina, LOT 1, on the Cut 3 from km 876+ 325 to km 876 + 825 there was a violation of the stability of a conditionally stable slope that jeopardizes the highway route. According results of extensive geotechnical investigations it is a huge landslide with a complex slip mechanism. Within the Phase II works on the stabilization of the landslide toe in the zone of the left bank of the South Morava River, in the length of 300,50 m, from km 3 + 592 to km 3 + 900.35 (along the axis of the river), or from km 876 + 739,23 to km 876 + 485 (along the axis of the highway) are foreseen. These works consist of constructing the reinforced soil embankment, up to 12.5 m height in the zone of toe of the landslide. The embankment shall contribute to the stabilization of the slope as a ballast, as well as redistribution of the mass after the excavation necessary for the road deviation.

Résumé :
All types of birefringent (but not polarizing) fiber ring resonators present environmentally-induced variations in the fringe shape that cannot be eliminated passively.1 A fringe shape stabilization system has been constructed, for use with fiber ring resonators with power exchange between the birefringent axes.2-4 The system works by keeping the depth of successive resonant dips equal, through a feedback loop that controls the fiber birefringence Δn. Two schemes for controlling Δn are investigated: in the first less efficient scheme, the entire loop is subjected to stretching, causing a fringe drift of more than 100 fringes. In the second scheme, the fiber is subjected to a localized compression, which changes Δn while having only a small effect on the average refractive index, thus causing a smaller fringe drift. When the resonator is used as a high-resolution spectrum analyzer, either stabilization scheme can be used; but the second scheme allows the resonator to be also used as a sensor, as it interferes little with the signal recovery system. With this stabilization system the resonator can operate in a variable environment with minimal deterioration in performance.

Résumé :
Permeation grouting for stabilization of dispersive sandy and gravely soils is in use from beginning of 19th century and has high importance for various underpinning, tunneling, and structural strengthening works. As materials for permeation grouting are applied not only cement mortar or silica gel in many compositions but multi-molecular organic solutions too. From multi-molecular organic solutions for permeation grouting are in use various synthetic resins such as acrylic, urea-formaldehyde, or other polymer resins. Urea-formaldehyde resin has right physical and mechanical properties for applying in soil stabilization but additives can change these properties. For example, additives can increase density, pH-rate, and gel-formation time of urea-formaldehyde resin. Additives can decrease viscosity of solutions based on urea-formaldehyde resin. Additives can improve environmental aspects of use of multi-molecular organic solutions for grouting of sandy soils. Long-time investigations of influence of additives on properties of multi-molecular organic solutions used for soil stabilization give good results for optimization of composition of materials for grouting.

Résumé :
Existing Delta Headwaters Project (DHP) watershed stabilization studies are focused on restoration and stabilization of degraded stream systems. The original watershed studies formerly under the Demonstration Erosion Control (DEC) Project started in the mid 1980s. The watershed stabilization activities are continuing, and because of the vast number of degraded watersheds and limited amount of yearly funding, there is a need for developing a rapid watershed assessment approach to determine which watersheds to prioritize for further work. The goal of this project is to test the FluvialGeomorph (FG) toolkit to determine if the Rapid Geomorphic Assessment approach can identify channel stability trends in Campbell Creek and its main tributary. The FG toolkit (Haring et al. 2019; Haring et al. 2020) is a new rapid watershed assessment approach using high-resolution terrain data (Light Detection and Ranging [LiDAR]) to support U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) watershed planning. One of the principal goals of the USACE SMART (Specific Measureable Attainable Risk-Informed Timely) Planning is to leverage existing data and resources to complete studies. The FG approach uses existing LiDAR to rapidly assess either reach-specific analysis for smaller more focused studies or larger watersheds or ecosystems. The rapid assessment capability can reduce the time and cost of planning by using existing information to complete a preliminary watershed assessment and provide rapid results regarding where to focus more detailed study efforts.

Résumé :
The possibility, first raised by Rudolf Hilferding, of stabilizing a capitalist economy through the operations of a ‘general cartel’, leaving only social and political ‘contradictions’ to disturb the functioning of the system, gave rise to a discussion among Marxists not only on whether such a stabilization was at all possible, but also on the nature and scope of those contradictions. This discussion had been anticipated in the 1890s in the work of the Polish Marxist Ludwik Krzywicki (1859 – 1941). He put forward the idea that, in a capitalist economy stabilized in this way, a state of ‘industrial feudalism’ would prevail, in which society would become stratified into social classes without the possibility of mobility between those classes. This analysis was extended in 1940s by Oskar Lange (1904-1965) as he attempted to make sense of the American New Deal and rediscovered in the 1950s by Tadeusz Kowalik (1926-2012). This paper explains the concept of industrial feudalism and argues that the main mechanism for such a stratification today is the unequal distribution of wealth, in the context of declining welfare provision.

Résumé :
United Nations peace operations are generally considered a poor vehicle for counter-terrorism. Yet, UN peace operations are regularly deployed by the Security Council to settings affected by terrorism and violent extremism. The confluence of terrorism and conflict make this co-existence inevitable, but some missions have also engaged more directly in countering these elements. For example, the UNSC continues to support the mission in Somalia, which actively faces terrorist threats, and has also deployed a peacekeeping mission to Mali amid a jihadist insurgency. At the same time, in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, peace operations have engaged in offensive military operations that target groups labelled as “terrorists” by their host government partners. Academics and peacekeeping experts have raised concerns and noted the initial impacts of counter-terrorism efforts on UN peace operations. Building on this work, this brief draws on illustrative examples from the field to examine how the UNSC’s counter-terrorism framework has impacted the mandates and practice of the UN’s peace operations, particularly the large stabilization operations deployed in Africa. It shows that counter-terrorism efforts at the level of the UNSC have blurred the normative distinctions between peace operations and counter-terrorism to the detriment of the former. This brief concludes by providing recommendations to ensure that UNSC responses to terrorism and violent extremism do not unintentionally undermine the effectiveness of UN peace operations.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The overall goal of this project was to elucidate the role of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in soil retention, bioavailability and plant uptake of silver and cerium oxide NPs. The environmental risks of manufactured nanoparticles (NPs) are attracting increasing attention from both industrial and scientific communities. These NPs have shown to be taken-up, translocated and bio- accumulated in plant edible parts. However, very little is known about the behavior of NPs in soil-plant system as affected by dissolved organic matter (DOM). Thus DOM effect on NPs behavior is critical to assessing the environmental fate and risks related to NP exposure. Carbon-based nanomaterials embedded with metal NPs demonstrate a great potential to serve as catalyst and disinfectors. Hence, synthesis of novel carbon-based nanocomposites and testing them in the environmentally relevant conditions (particularly in the DOM presence) is important for their implementation in water purification. Sorption of DOM on Ag-Ag₂S NPs, CeO₂ NPs and synthesized Ag-Fe₃O₄-carbon nanotubebifunctional composite has been studied. High DOM concentration (50mg/L) decreased the adsorptive and catalytic efficiencies of all synthesized NPs. Recyclable Ag-Fe₃O₄-carbon nanotube composite exhibited excellent catalytic and anti-bacterial action, providing complete reduction of common pollutants and inactivating gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria at environmentally relevant DOM concentrations (5-10 mg/L). Our composite material may be suitable for water purification ranging from natural to the industrial waste effluents. We also examined the role of maize (Zeamays L.)-derived root exudates (a form of DOM) and their components on the aggregation and dissolution of CuONPs in the rhizosphere. Root exudates (RE) significantly inhibited the aggregation of CuONPs regardless of ionic strength and electrolyte type. With RE, the critical coagulation concentration of CuONPs in NaCl shifted from 30 to 125 mM and the value in CaCl₂ shifted from 4 to 20 mM. This inhibition was correlated with molecular weight (MW) of RE fractions. Higher MW fraction (> 10 kDa) reduced the aggregation most. RE also significantly promoted the dissolution of CuONPs and lower MW fraction (< 3 kDa) RE mainly contributed to this process. Also, Cu accumulation in plant root tissues was significantly enhanced by RE. This study provides useful insights into the interactions between RE and CuONPs, which is of significance for the safe use of CuONPs-based antimicrobial products in agricultural production. Wheat root exudates (RE) had high reducing ability to convert Ag+ to nAg under light exposure. Photo-induced reduction of Ag+ to nAg in pristine RE was mainly attributed to the 0-3 kDa fraction. Quantification of the silver species change over time suggested that Cl⁻ played an important role in photoconversion of Ag+ to nAg through the formation and redox cycling of photoreactiveAgCl. Potential electron donors for the photoreduction of Ag+ were identified to be reducing sugars and organic acids of low MW. Meanwhile, the stabilization of the formed particles was controlled by both low (0-3 kDa) and high (>3 kDa) MW molecules. This work provides new information for the formation mechanism of metal nanoparticles mediated by RE, which may further our understanding of the biogeochemical cycling and toxicity of heavy metal ions in agricultural and environmental systems. Copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuSNPs) at 1:1 and 1:4 ratios of Cu and S were synthesized, and their respective antifungal efficacy was evaluated against the pathogenic activity of Gibberellafujikuroi(Bakanae disease) in rice (Oryza sativa). In a 2-d in vitro study, CuS decreased G. fujikuroiColony- Forming Units (CFU) compared to controls. In a greenhouse study, treating with CuSNPs at 50 mg/L at the seed stage significantly decreased disease incidence on rice while the commercial Cu-based pesticide Kocide 3000 had no impact on disease. Foliar-applied CuONPs and CuS (1:1) NPs decreased disease incidence by 30.0 and 32.5%, respectively, which outperformed CuS (1:4) NPs (15%) and Kocide 3000 (12.5%). CuS (1:4) NPs also modulated the shoot salicylic acid (SA) and Jasmonic acid (JA) production to enhance the plant defense mechanisms against G. fujikuroiinfection. These results are useful for improving the delivery efficiency of agrichemicals via nano-enabled strategies while minimizing their environmental impact, and advance our understanding of the defense mechanisms triggered by the NPs presence in plants.
