Résumé :
The article addresses the need for special efforts to resolve the issue of correction of teachers' professional Ukrainian language in the bilingual and Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine. The article also provides the materials to prevent and overcome the widespread language mistakes of the teachers. The most widespread phonetic and orthoepic mistakes in the professional speech of a teacher are considered, namely: incorrect pronunciation of words, incorrect pronunciation of certain Ukrainian sounds and sound combinations, stunning of the consonants in the absolute end of the word and in the middle of the word before the deaf, etc. in Ukrainian words. The causes and types of lexical mistakes in teacher's speech are illustrated. There is a large number of dangerous phrases from the point of view of teachers and students observing the correct language. The most common grammatical mistakes are emphasized, namely: absence of an exclamation mark for the students' names when addressing them, incorrect spelling of Ukrainian masculine surnames, inattention to differences in management of word combinations etc. The teacher must have a good command of the scientific terms of those subjects, which he teaches the basics, as well as the peculiarities of Ukrainian scientific style constructions. The article describes the numerous Ukrainian designs of the scientific style, which are used daily by the teacher in his professional speech and in which mistakes are often made. The article concludes the importance of optimizing the teaching of professional speech to students-future teachers, as well as the need to organize work on the correction of speech in special training courses and advanced training of current teachers. The materials offered in the article can be used (with some correction) in the system of speech training of teachers-teachers of different specialties at all faculties of pedagogical colleges.

Résumé :
The personality of Trochym Zinkivskyi (1861–1891) remains little known and insufficiently developed in modern Ukrainian historiography. The purpose of the article is to study the figure of Trokhym Zinkivskyi in the context of the problem of preserving the historical memory of Taras Shevchenko. Research methods are personalistic, historical-genetic and historical-systemic. Sources: published epistolaries of T. Zinkivskyi and his addressees, memories of contemporaries, biographical articles in the Ukrainian press of the beginning of the 20th century etc. The main results consist in elucidating the peculiarities of the formation of T. Zinkivskyi's worldview under the conditions of the oppression of the Southern Ukrainian lands by the Russian imperial regime, in particular in Berdyansk, Feodosia and Odesa, the establishment of his Ukrainian national-democratic views during his studies and military service in Smila, Shpola and Uman, in Kyiv and St. Petersburg. It is noted that an important factor in the development of his Ukrainian consciousness and identity was his family upbringing, which instilled love for his native language and formed Christian, religious values. A prominent role was played by the reading circle, which included Shevchenkov's «Kobzar» along with other literary works of Ukrainian and foreign writers; as well as Ukrainian folk art. V. Kravchenko, L. Smolenskyi, B. Grinchenko, M. Komarov, and a number of representatives of the Ukrainian colony in St. Petersburg were included in the closest circle of persons who significantly influenced the formation of the worldview of the Ukrainian figure. The article traces the main stages of the intellectual and public activity of the Ukrainian figure in the matter of preserving the historical memory of Kobzar. It is noted that already in the middle and second half of the 80s of the 19th century. T. Zinkivskyi began work in the field of Ukrainian literature, took care of translation activities. In St. Petersburg, he was able to begin wider work for the benefit of Ukrainianism and became an ideological leader of young Ukrainians. The powerful vital energy of the activist was organically combined with consistent and convinced actions in the name of the Ukrainian cause. In the youth group at Shevchenko's anniversary, T. Zinkivskyi read a number of essays, such as «The National Question in Russia», «Shevchenko in the Light of European Criticism», «Young Ukraine» and others. His essay «Taras Shevchenko in the Light of European Criticism», which was read in Ukrainian on the evening of February 25, 1889 in the capital of the empire, was of exceptional importance. This speech, prepared mostly on the basis of French, Austrian, German, and Polish historiographical sources, presented Kobzar as a figure of global poetic scale and destroyed the perception of the Russian metropolitan public about Ukrainians and the Ukrainian language as something provincial and inferior. Conclusions.T. Zinkivskyi became one of the brightest representatives of the «Young Ukraine» generation. The short-lived but important intellectual activity of the ideological leader of young Ukrainians, in particular, speeches at the Shevchenko anniversary, publication of abstracts, epistolaries, drew the attention of contemporaries to the figure of Taras Shevchenko, to his poetic heritage; actualized the issue of preserving the historical memory of Kobzar as a leader of the national values of Ukrainians. It has been proven that during the 1880s and early 1890s, T. Zinkivskyi's intellectual activity contributed to the progress of Ukrainian public affairs and national science, the establishment of Ukrainian national consciousness among the generation of young Ukrainians. The practical significance of the article is that the given material will be of interest to specialists in the context of studying the ethno-national history of Ukraine in the second half of the 19th century. The originality of the article lies in the understanding of insufficiently studied aspects of the activity of the Ukrainian intellectual, who stood at the origins of the idea of «Young Ukraine». Scientific novelty in updating the intellectual activity of T. Zinkivskyi in the matter of preserving Ukrainian national memory and forming national consciousness and identity.

Résumé :
The article is devoted to the study of lexical and grammatical features of epistolary addresses (on the material of “Letters to Oles Honchar” compiled by M. Stepanenko). The address is interpreted as one of the manifestations of human communication needs which serves to establish and maintain speech contact, as well as to express the emotional and evaluative characteristics of the interlocutor. An epistolary address is a word or phrase by which the author of a letter nominates his addressee in the text of a written message to establish contact with him. We processed 895 letters to Oles Honchar, in which 1185 addresses in Ukrainian and about 200 units in other languages had been recorded. Lexical features of addresses represent their belonging to the following semantic groups: addresses-anthroponyms (name, patronymic and surname); traditional etiquette forms (пан, товариш); general addresses (names of persons by generic or gender feature; names of persons by kinship in the indirect sense; names of persons by friendly relations); special addresses (names by profession, type of activity, position, academic titles); occasional addresses. Most often, senders address Oles Honchar by patronymic or by name, using it in full or in short form, and sometimes by surname. The lexical and semantic content of addresses depends on the intention of the speaker, his politeness, knowledge of language etiquette and the peculiarities of the relationship with the writer. In order to strengthen the address, attributive distributors expressed by honorific and emotional-evaluative adjectives аre used. Honorific adjectives (шановний, високошановний, найшанованіший, глибокошановний, вельмишановний, високоповажний, etc.) convey a polite attitude and perform etiquette function. Emotional-evaluative adjectives (дорогий, славний, щирий, незабутній, рідний, любий, коханий, etc.) denote sincerity, friendliness, friendly affection and perform an evaluative function. We reveal a significant proportion of constructions in which adjectives of both groups are used. This causes a change in the tonality of the communicative situation and reduces interpersonal distance. Possessive pronouns мій, наш, which have partially lost the meaning of possessiveness, strengthen the intimacy, cordiality and sincerity of the relationship. Addresses in Russian, Belarusian, Polish and English are described. It is found that the grammatical differentiation of addresses directly depends on lexical and grammatical features (proper or common names and substantivized parts of speech) and morphological means of their expression. It is confirmed that the typical morphological form of addresses is the vocative case of the noun, as well as the homonymous nominative case in letters written during the Soviet period. Violations of morphological norms (different case forms of lexical phrase components, a non-normative form Олесе) and orthographic mistakes in spelling of the writer’s patronymic are revealed. The non-normative form of the nominative case as a means of expressing the address in letters dated 1990–1995 is substantiated. The results of the research show that the most frequent lexeme is Олесю Терентійовичу. Forms Олесь Терентійович and Олесю are less used. Quantitative indicators of addressing forms are summarized in the table. We see the prospect of further scientific research in deepening other vectors of analysis of addresses, in particular in the study of their functional and stylistic potential.

Résumé :
The paper presents an analysis of charisma-correlates in the language of political leaders in modern German and Ukrainian political discourse and answers the question of whether an ideal type can be an object of multimodal phonetical research. The discursive description of charismatic leaders in German and Ukrainian political discourse and the discovery of their contrastive features relies on biological, social, psychological and linguistic parameters forming their charismatic discourse portraits. Of decisive importance in this context, is the rhetoric of public appearance, expressive combative position, hortatority, timbral, prosodic and gesture-mimic characteristics further perceived and attributed to its carriers as charisma. Charismatic politicians have always been characterised by sharp statements, categorical views and mobilising speech. Inspirited or pep rhetoric is inherent in politicians whose position is contrary to the majority of the public, the opinion of their political allies, members of Parliament, etc. We can observe its manifestations in moments of acute crisis in political life. The prosodic specifics of charismatical discourse are characterised by intensification of all its dynamic, tonal, and temporal components. In phonetical studies, this acoustic effect is referred to as prosodic intensity understanding it as abrupt changes in pitch, loudness, tempo variations, and pauses in important utterances containing addresses, appeals and concepts with positive semantics. Charismatic rhetoric is also formed by the kinetic (gesture and mimic) component that is functionally related the prosodic representation of speech making communication more effective. A gesture is the action or movement of the body through which one individual signals another individual about his presence, his intentions regarding objects. Charismatic political communications are characterised primarily by accentuating or co-speech gestures that represent movements of the body, especially the arms/hands, by which the speaker explains, complements his words, highlights the key points, emphasises or amplifies a verbal utterance. A gesture is perceived by the addressee as a kinematic form of verbal charisma-appeal through which he exercises his influence on his followers and/or opponents encouraging them to commit actions aimed at achieving a particular goal. Charismatic rhetoric originates in political communication in times of crisis and is characteristic of politicians whose stand is not consistent with the majority position. Charismatic enthusiasm and inspiration are ethnically coloured (German rapsodicity, Ukrainian monotony) and are reflected in prosodic and gesture emphasis accompanying both independent and dependent parts of speech indicating the autonomy of charismatic rhetoric as a model. The results of this study can be applied in discourse studies, applied phonetics, comparative linguistics, and political communication.

Résumé :
The article discusses the sociolinguistic concept of language ideology against the background of the international and Ukrainian research of the subject. Language ideology is usually treated a set of widely held beliefs about the language articulated by users as a rationalization or justification of perceived language structure and language practice. Language ideologies are not always clearly articulated and often include all kinds of assumptions about the nature of language and its use. Language ideology is shaped in the public discourse that involves a wide range of participants and it plays a significant role in the processes of language standardisation and in the formulation of language policy. Also discussed is the standard language ideology which refers to the belief that the variety that has its roots in the speech of the most powerful group in society is superior to other ways of speaking the language. Language ideology may be quite influential at the grassroots level and in the absence of formal law it can work as «policy with the manager left out». The article also addresses the issue of the structure of language ideology as a complex multidimensional construction consisting of a set of ideologemes. It is assumed that the influence of individual ideologemes may increase or go down, depending on a variety of socio-political, economical, demographic and other variables. Presumably language ideology has a core part and a periphery where new ideologemes are generated some of which gain influence and some decline. Top-down language ideology is determined by the government policy while bottom-up ideology is generated by the civil society institutions, scientific and academic community, language activists, the media etc. Ukrainian and international experience demonstrate that top-down and bottom-up language ideologies may alternate or combine simultaneously or at different times.

Résumé :
Statement of the problem. This work is devoted to the study of the linguistic image of a Russian woman politician – a special type of public image that attracts the attention of both the mass addressee and the professional expert community. The very concept of “linguistic image” is used in many social and scientific practices, being of great interest for modern humanitarian knowledge – imageology, linguistics, psychology, sociology, philosophy, advertising, public relations, etc. Within the field of linguistic image, as well as in the linguistic theory of linguistic personality, the aspect of the subjective component of public speech, the so-called “author in the text”, has always been highlighted as a separate aspect. This is interconnected not only with anthropocentrism as a universal scientific idea of the 21st century, but also with the global process of mediatization of all spheres of human activity. The purpose of the article is to reconstruct the subjective component of the linguistic image of a woman politician in the context of public social and speech activity. The methodology (materials and methods). The methodology of the analysis undertaken is based on the provisions and ideas of imageology, the theory of linguistic personality and linguistic semantics, in the context of which descriptive-analytical and comparative methods were used, as well as the method of semantic text analysis. The research material included the texts of public speeches and statements of 2016–2018, belonging to two representatives of modern Russian politics – Maria Zakharova and Natalia Poklonskaya. Research results. In the speeches of M. Zakharova and N. Poklonskaya, the description of social-speech communication corresponds to one language model and is presented in three aspects: 1) space (where?), 2) participants (who?), and 3) metascenarios of social-speech communication (what is happening?). In the texts of these women politicians, this semantic model is filled with its own content, which has general and specific elements that characterize their public images in different ways. Russia is described as a common communicative space for the activities of political subjects, despite the fact that for M. Zakharova the Ministry of Foreign Affairs turns out to be a specific medium of communication, and for N. Poklonskaya these are the State Duma, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Crimea. The common thing is that both speakers inscribe their own communicative activity in a threefold structure, where the main participants are a) the speaker himself, b) his associates and c) his opponents. In the contexts of M. Zakharova, the listed participants are embodied in roles: a) “Me” as “an intermediary” or “a moderator”, b) “We” as “diplomats”, as “teammates”, or a subject of the “conciliar” type (Russia, Moscow, diplomatic corps);in the contexts of M. Poklonskaya – a) “Me” as “a stateswoman” or “a prosecutor”, and also b) “We” as “prosecutors”, as “associates” and as “trustees”, respectively. As for the opponents, in both cases the set is practically the same: USA or the Ukrainian. The content of the described model is complemented by the so-called metascripts, which represent the social-speech situation in a new way and have a different functional purpose in every statement. Conclusion. The linguistic image of M. Zakharova is more objectified and restrained, in fact merging with the typical diplomatic image, while the image of N. Poklonskaya is more emotional and subjective, reinforced by the characteristic features of speech spontaneity and directness. At the same time, both images, framed by the modus of involvement and team goal-setting, organically fit into the space of the professional communication.

Résumé :
The article is devoted to the analysis of figures of expressive syntax presented in public speeches of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. The texts of presidential rhetoric, which was transformed during the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, are considered. The peculiarities of presidential speeches, implemented at the syntactic level, are traced. Figures of expressive syntax are analyzed: syntactic repetition, syntactic anaphora, syntactic epiphora, syntactic parallelism, period. The material of the research was the texts of presidential speeches, represented in the daily video addresses of Volodymyr Zelensky to the Ukrainian people. The object of research was the Ukrainian presidential discourse, and the subject - the syntactic features of the political speeches of V. Zelensky. The purpose of the study is to identify and qualify the main means of expressive syntax used in the presidential rhetoric of V. Zelensky, which have influential potential. The material for the analysis was the speeches and addresses of V. Zelensky, presented on the official website of the President of Ukraine, starting from February 24, 2022. Both the texts of daily video appeals to the people of Ukraine and official speeches addressed to foreign leaders and communities are considered. It is proved that during the Russian-Ukrainian war a relatively new speech genre of political discourse, presented in the presidential rhetoric of V. Zelensky, became widespread - video appeals. The dynamic nature of this genre and its interactivity, enhanced by video and audio tools, required the actualization of linguistic means of influencing the addressee, among which the priority is the means of expressive syntax. V. Zelensky’s presidential discourse mostly presents syntactic repetitions (anaphora, epiphora, epanaphora), syntactic parallelism, antithesis, period and rhetorical questions.

Résumé :
The article is devoted to the analysis of the system of speech genres of modern Ukrainian presidential discourse. The study of presidential discourse as one of the varie-ties of political discourse is carried out in a communicative and pragmatic aspect. This involved taking into account the features of communicative interaction of political in-teraction participants, selected communication strategies and tactics, and identifying communicative intentions. One of the new genres of Ukrainian presidential discourse is considered – a petition to the President of Ukraine. Petitions of citizens to the President for 2015-2023 were analyzed and the structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic features of this genre were determined. The remote and mediated nature of petitions as a genre of electronic communication between the head of state and citizens of Ukraine is taken into account. The main communicative strategies of speakers in petitions and the specifi cs of the President’s communicative behavior as addressee and respondent are characterized. Attention is focused on linguistic means of achieving the perlocutionary eff ect in the speech genre of the petition. The communicative intention of encouragement is defi ned as the main one in the petition, which determines the implementation of speech acts of off er and request. The two-component structure of the petition was considered and the speaker’s own appeal and the addressee’s response in communicative interaction with the participation of an indirect mass addressee were analyzed. The structural elements of the President’s response as a component of the speech genre of the petition are considered and its performative nature is determined. The problems of achieving perlocutionary eff ect in petitions and low eff ectiveness in political discourse are characterized.

The purpose of this research is to address the issue of the interaction between the author of a literary text and the reader in the system of linguocognitive intention. The article covers the problems of contextual interpretation of the author’s linguistic and artistic strategies, their personality traits, verbal means of creating the image of the author in the addressee’s consciousness. In order to get the image of the recipient of the text, one has to make subconscious inferences from the author’s comments, statements addressed to the reader, lyrical and epic digressions, etc. The analysis of the texts by modern Ukrainian authors – their linguopoetic paradigm and the intimization of speech technique deployed in order to produce a greater illocutionary effect on the addressee – has made it possible to establish the means and strategies which stimulate communicative process and enhance understanding between the author and the reader. Another problem highlighted in the research is critical perception of the text creator’s ego conception and the probability of providing feedback within the ‘author/reader’ dimension

Rees, Roger. « Imperial ideology in Latin panegyric, 289-298 ». Thesis, University of St Andrews, 1997. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/15496.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Four Latin panegyrics survive from the period 289 to 298. They originate from Gaul. The empire was governed by collegiate rule, with Diocletian and Maximian joint Augusti (the Dyarchy) until 293, when the imperial college was expanded to four (the Tetrarchy) with the promotion to the subordinate rank of Caesar of Constantius and Galerius. To meet the threats of usurpers and external enemies, the emperors exercised their authority in different parts of the Empire and were rarely together. The creation of collegiate government posed a novel challenge for panegyrists; they had to balance the impulse to praise the individual addressee with the need to integrate him into the wider government. These potentially competing demands were intensified by the circumstances of the delivery of the speeches, since loyalty had to be expressed to both present and absent emperors. A tension existed between the ideologies of governmental unity and individualism. A texture of tension and resolution is generated in the four speeches. The dynamics of vocative address are used to articulate loyalty. Figurations of the unity of government are employed to signal the relationships between the emperors and their resulting cosmic significance. Individual profiles are cut for the emperors primarily through the use of mythological and historical exempla. The signa Jovius and Herculius, which the emperors assumed, are exploited to characterize and differentiate them. In their detail and overall ideologies, differences between the four speeches are distinct. Each orator adapted the conventions of the genre to an evolving political landscape; furthermore, varying and sometimes competing loyalties are revealed. Panegyric is seen to be capable of great versatility and nuance.

Abstract: The way of constructing the discourse on political disappearance, in each official commission, is a way of elaborating a national memory. A memory that can integrate or forget many different groups. Understanding the present and past state definition of the disappeared allows us to understand how the state produces the disappeared and the political dead. The reelaboration of the discourses on the disappeared derives from diverse social conflicts that permeate the discussion of memory and remember and forget. This research seeks to develop how memory is conveyed in the various documents and how one can read its changes over the years in order to tell history. It is the way of telling the history that can improve political and civil rights in democracy. The documents analyzed here are produced by civilians, relatives of political dead and missing people, and later, by the Civil House of the Presidency. They are: Brasil: Nunca Mais (1985), Dossiê dos mortos e desaparecidos políticos de 1964 (1995), Lei 9.140/95 (1995), Livro-Relatório da CEMDP (2007), Lei 12.528/2011 (2011), Relatório Final da CNV (2014). To read these documents, the interpretations of M. Foucault (2005) regarding the elaboration of the truth by documents and the inquiry, the basis of the current legal system, are essential. As well as the interpretations of J. Le Goff (1991) on the elaboration - and lack of innocence - of the documents, and A. Assmann's (2014) and J. Assmann's (2008) differentiation of dimensions of the memory, within the family and within the nation. With this theoretical-methodological framework, the reading unfolds in order to search for the ways the disappeared are portrayed through the time, leaving "disappeared" martyrs (ARQUIDIOCESE DE SÃO PAULO, 1985)... Logo, a competência lingu...

The main objective of the study is to reveal the specifics of the functioning of the metaphor “war against coronavirus” in Ukrainian mediatized discursive practices of 2020-2021 compared to the trends of using this metaphor in the media environment of Western countries. A research methodology is based on the approach of critical discourse analysis. The work also takes into account the results of the study of the «war against coronavirus» metaphor, conducted using the materials of public discourses in Italy, Bulgaria, and Greece. A comparative analysis of the specifics of the functioning of this metaphor in mediatized discursive practices was carried out by the author of the article as part of a joint study of an international team of scientists – a contextualized online dictionary «In Other Words» (https://www.iowdictionary.org). Mediatized discursive practices mean communications with a mass audience through various media platforms, i.e., not only through mass media, but also with the use of blogs, social networks, messengers, video hosting, etc. The findings of the study of “war” metaphors in the domestic official discourse on the problems of combating the Covid-19 pandemic during 2020-2021 are based on the analysis of public speeches and greetings presented on the official website “President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Official Internet representation”, as well as interviews of the President with leading domestic and foreign publications. The result of the research is the conclusion that, in general, the metaphor “war against the coronavirus” has not gained such widespread use in Ukrainian official, political, and media discursive practices as in Western countries. This is due to the fact that starting in 2014, Ukraine repels the military aggression of the Russian Federation in the east of the country. Therefore, in 2020–2021, the word war was actively used in the public and personal discourses of Ukrainians primarily not in a metaphorical, but in a direct, denotative sense: war as an armed struggle in the east of Ukraine. Key words: Covid-19, metaphor “war against coronavirus”, political discourse, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, mediatized discursive practices, critical discourse analysis.
