Résumé :
AbstractWe study radial symmetry of entire solutions of the equation0.1$$\Delta ^2u = 8(N-2)(N-4)e^u\quad {\rm in}\;R^N\;\;(N \ges 5).$$It is known that (0.1) admits infinitely many radially symmetric entire solutions. These solutions may have either a (negative) logarithmic behaviour or a (negative) quadratic behaviour at infinity. Up to translations, we know that there is only one radial entire solution with the former behaviour, which is called ‘maximal radial entire solution’, and infinitely many radial entire solutions with the latter behaviour, which are called ‘non-maximal radial entire solutions’. The necessary and sufficient conditions for an entire solutionuof (0.1) to be the maximal radial entire solution are presented in [7] recently. In this paper, we will give the necessary and sufficient conditions for an entire solutionuof (0.1) to be a non-maximal radial entire solution.

Résumé :
Recently, ZrN has been attracting interest for its excellent corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, high hardness, good lubricity and ductility. Although tribological study of ZrN coating has been carried out extensively, investigation related to corrosion of ZrN film is limited. In view of this and in view of possible applications of ZrN film in several engineering components, the present investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the corrosion response of ZrN film in seawater solution, Hank's solution, 0.5M H2SO4solution and 0.5M HCl solutions. Towards that purpose, potentiostatic, open circuit potential and potentiodynamic study of ZrN film deposited on plain carbon steel has been carried out in all these solutions. Results indicate that stable protective film is formed on the surface of ZrN coating in all these solution except 0.5M H2SO4 solution. The formation of protective film on ZrN coating is fastest in sea water solution and it is slowest in the Cl¯ ions containing media, 0.5 M HCl. The corrosion current is highest for 0.5M H2SO4 acid solution and least for Hank's solution.

Résumé :
Chitosan, a versatile biopolymer, finds numerous applications in textile processing unit operations such as preparation, dyeing, printing, and finishing. However, the accessibility of this biopolymer by the textile material depends on the viscosity of its solution which in turn is a function of its molecular weight. In this work, therefore, the effect of molecular weight, storage life, presence of electrolyte, and particle size of chitosan on its viscosity was investigated. Chitosan of different molecular weights was synthesized by nitrous acid hydrolysis of parent chitosan solution. The synthesized low molecular weight products were analysed by FTIR spectroscopy. Chitosan of nanoconfiguration was prepared by Ionotropic gelation method and characterized by particle size analyzer. The viscosity of different chitosan solutions was determined using Ubbelohde capillary viscometer. As an extension to this study, the chelation property of chitosan was also evaluated.

Résumé :
In recent years there has been increasing interest in novel forms of surfactants. Of particular interest are gemini surfactants, which consist of two conventional surfactants joined by a spacer at the head groups, as they exhibit lower critical micelle concentrations than can be achieved by conventional surfactants. In this work, the self-assembly behaviour of several nonionic gemini surfactants with polyethylene oxide head groups (GemnEm, where n (= 20) is the number of carbons per tail and m (= 10, 15, 20 and 30) is the number of ethylene oxides per head group) were investigated. The Critical Micelle Concentrations (CMCs) were measured using a fluorescence probe technique. The CMCs are all ~2 x 10?7 M, with almost no variation with m. The CMCs are several orders of magnitude lower than conventional C12Em nonionic surfactants. The mixing behaviour of the gemini surfactants with conventional surfactants was also studied. They obeyed ideal mixing behaviour with both ionic and nonionic surfactants. Micelle morphologies were studied using Small Angle Neutron Scattering. The gemini surfactants with the larger head groups (i.e. Gem20E20 and Gem20E30) formed spherical micelles. Gem20E15 showed strong scattering at low Q, characteristic of elongated micelles. As the temperature was increased towards the cloud point, the scattering approached the Q-1 dependence predicted for infinite, straight rods. The existence of anisotropic micelles was supported by the viscosity of Gem20E15, which increases by several orders of magnitude on heating towards its cloud point. Phase behaviour was determined using Diffusive Interfacial Transport coupled to near-infrared spectroscopy. Much of the behaviour of these systems is similar to conventional nonionic surfactants. For example, Gem20E10 forms a dilute liquid isotropic phase (W) coexisting with a concentrated lamellar phase (La) at around room temperature and forms a sponge phase at higher temperatures. This is similar to the behaviour of C12E3 and C12E4. The other surfactants studied are all quite soluble in water and form liquid isotropic and hexagonal phases from room temperature. At higher concentrations Gem20E15 formed a cubic and then a lamellar phase while Gem20E20 formed a cubic phase and then an intermediate phase. This is also comparable to the phase behaviour of conventional nonionic surfactants except the intermediate phase, which is often only observed for surfactant systems with long alkyl tails.

Introduction. In Uruguay, the Ibirapitá Plan provides a tablet for every low-income retired woman. That motivated the research of old women’s information behaviour related to access and use of inclusive information for overcoming their disinformation. This work has the following purposes: (i) contributing to research focused on knowing and interpreting the role of social mediators and old women in the processes of access, search and appropriation of information using the Plan’s tablets; (ii) investigating users' needs of local information; and, (iii) offering such information in a participatory design of a digital solution for tablets by an interdisciplinary team. Methods. A mix of methods was applied using a questionnaire and mainly qualitative methods: in-depth interviews with qualified informants and trainers, observation of tablet-distribution workshops, focus groups and validation workshops of the digital solution designed for tablets applied in two capital cities and two small towns with the collaboration of community organisations. Analysis of the results. The analysis of the results is presented according to five dimensions of analysis and the questions that the research seeks to respond to. Discussion and conclusion. The affirmations and experiences raised regarding the technological device open a wide range of challenges to overcome and learning opportunities both for tablet users and for the production, content management and future designs of search interfaces.

Résumé :
In this paper, the Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) is applied to obtain high accuracy series solutions of roll motions of a ship, which encounters a nonlinear wave of large amplitude. Comparisons are made between roll responses in linear and nonlinear beam waves with identical wave slope and frequency. Furthermore, Floquet theory is applied to analyze the stability of HAM series solutions. Besides that, numerical simulation is used to verify the analytical solution and study the behaviors of the system under disturbance. All the results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is an effective analytic technique to study nonlinear ship rolling equation, and the stability analysis reveals the significance of researching ship roll motion in large amplitude nonlinear wave.

Résumé :
Sedentary behaviour is extremely prevalent in Western societies and is significantly associated with an elevated risk of all-cause mortality that cannot be mitigated by physical activity. The introduction of standing desks into the workplace offers a solution to this inactivity, but there is limited investigation regarding the effects of standing on cognition, which is a major consideration in much office-based work. In this study we aimed to provide an exploratory investigation on the effect on cognitive performance of standing while working. We tested 30 office-based adults on a battery of 19 cognitive tasks (tapping five cognitive domains) in a randomised, repeatedmeasures crossover design study. Two conditions (standing versus sitting) were investigated over two 7.5-hour work days including morning, midday and afternoon sessions (Time of Day). Effects were analysed using multivariate two-way repeated-measures ANOVAs (Condition by Time of Day) for five cognitive domains. Overall, after correcting for multiple comparisons, there were no differences in performance between sitting and standing. At an uncorrected level, however, significant effects of Condition were found in three of the 19 tasks, with all demonstrating better performance while standing. Importantly, these results suggest that there is no detriment to cognitive performance through standing. They also provide an initial indication that there may be cognitive benefits of standing in the attention and working memory domains, which may be a promising avenue for future inquiry.

Résumé :
Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) allow biological organisms, including insects, fish, and plants, to survive in freezing temperatures. While in solution, AFPs impart cryoprotection by creating a thermal hysteresis (TH), imparting ice recrystallization inhibition (IRI), and providing dynamic ice shaping (DIS). To leverage these ice-modulating effects of AFPs in other scenarios, a range of icing assays were performed with AFPs to investigate how AFPs interact with ice formation when tethered to a surface. In this work, we studied ApAFP752, an AFP from the beetle Anatolica polita, and first investigated whether removing the fusion protein attached during protein expression would result in a difference in freezing behavior. We performed optical microscopy to examine ice-crystal shape, micro-structure, and the recrystallization behavior of frozen droplets of AFP solutions. We developed a surface chemistry approach to tether these proteins to glass surfaces and conducted droplet-freezing experiments to probe the interactions of these proteins with ice formed on those surfaces. In solution, ApAFP752 did not show any DIS or TH, but it did show IRI capabilities. In surface studies, the freezing of AFP droplets on clean glass surfaces showed no dependence on concentration, and the results from freezing water droplets on AFP-decorated surfaces were inconclusive.

Résumé :
Rhizoferrin, a siderophore produced by Rhizopus arrhizus, has been shown in previous studies to be an outstanding Fe carrier to plants. However, calculations based on stability constants and thermodynamic equilibrium lead to contradicting conclusions. In this study a kinetic approach was employed to elucidate this apparent contradiction and to determine the behavior of rhizoferrin under conditions representing soil and nutrient solutions. Stability of Fe3+ complexes in nutrient solution, rate of metal exchange with Ca, and rate of Fe extraction by the free ligand were monitored for rhizoferrin and other chelating agents by 55Fe labeling. Ferric complexes of rhizoferrin, desferri-ferrioxamine-B (DFOB), and ethylenediamine-di(o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid) (EDDHA) were found to be stable in nutrient solution at pH 7.5 for 31 days, while ferric complexes of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and mugineic acid (MA) lost 50% of the chelated Fe within 2 days. Fe-Ca exchange in Ca solutions at pH 8.7 revealed rhizoferrin to hold Fe at non-equilibrium state for 3-4 weeks at 3.3 mM Ca and for longer periods at lower Ca concentrations. EDTA lost the ferric ion at a faster rate under the same conditions. Fe extraction from freshly prepared Fe-hydroxide at pH 8.7 and with 3.2 mM Ca was slow and followed the order. DFOB > EDDHA > MA > rhizoferrin > EDTA. Based on these results we suggest that a kinetic rather than equilibrium approach should be the basis for predictions of Fe-chelates efficiency. We conclude that the non-equilibrium state of rhizoferrin is of crucial importance for its behavior as a Fe carrier to plants.

Résumé :
The 2021/2022 edition of the Interconnected Disaster Risks report analyses 10 disasters from around the world and explains that these events are interconnected with each other, with other larger, underlying societal processes, and with our collective behaviors and actions. Through forensic analysis, the key root causes featured among the 10 cases were an Insufficient risk governance, related to laws and practices that perpetuated or created complications in the formation of the disaster, and Undervaluing environmental costs, signifying the tendency to prioritize the economic costs of an endeavor over the potential environmental impacts. The report also identifies solutions that can help to prevent or better manage them in the future. Common solutions included Letting nature work and Innovating, but cannot be implemented in isolation given the interconnected nature of the disasters. To this end, solution packages were designed for each of the ten cases, showing how solutions themselves must be interconnected to make a lasting impact. Improving our understanding of the role of interconnectivity not just in the causes of disasters but also in turn their solutions is key for finding innovative ways to enhance our disaster risk reduction strategies.
