Résumé :
A micro-EDM equipment which can fabricate three-dimensional micro-structures is developed. A method of electrode wear compensation on-line which is very important to micro 3D structures machined by micro-EDM is presented. In this method, the wear of electrode can be predicted by the statistics law of open rate of discharge status, therefore, its precise model which is very difficult to build as well as the special CAD/CAM system is hardly necessary. At the same time, the micro-EDM CAD/CAM technology which applies the universal CAD/CAM software for milling is also researched and experienced on Unigraphics (UG). At last, micro 3D structures, a micro hemisphere with diameter ∅150+m and a micro 3D beam which is very popular in MEMS, are machined on silicon wafer by this way, which proves the wide useful of this method and the promising application in MEMS.

Résumé :
The draping and buckling of woven fabric are simulated with the finite element method based on the micro-mechanical constitutive model and orthotropic constitutive model under gravity load. Compared with the traditional orthotropic mechanical model of the fabric, the micro-mechanical constitutive model characterizes the special properties of woven fabric due to its micro-weaving structures. The woven fabric sheet is discretized with 8-nodes shell elements which are designed for finite deformation and suffice to describe the large rotation of fabric sheet during draping, for the sake of simplicity, the nodes of the fabric sheet on the edges of the desk are assumed to be fixed. Compared with the experimental ones, the simulation results with the micro-mechanical constitutive model are in good agreement with the observations. The work paves the way for developing a virtual clothes trial system.

Résumé :
The designing of a micro turbine for micro gas turbine engine is presented in this paper. Micro power system is becoming more and more important for micro- and nano-scale system. The fast development of MEMS (Micro Electromechanical Systems) has strongly enhanced the application of new harder work materials. The fabrication of metallic 3D microstructures has been one of the most attractive topics of micro machining. Currently the basic materials of Micro-turbine Engineering were nonmetal materials such as SiC, most of them are 2D or quasi-3D structures. As a low cost, flexible, good repeatable machining process with negligible process forces, micro-EDM milling is well suited for freeform metallic micro structures. A three-dimensional micro turbine was fabricated by micro-EDM milling. A major problem in micro-EDM milling of complex 3D structure by using micro-electrode is the electrode wear. For reducing the impact of electrode wear, A new CAM system based on the UG software platform is developed in order to get good accuracy 2and higher efficiency. A simple tool path generation by CAD/CAM software and a general electrode wear compensation strategy is presented. The wear compensation can be apart from the design of CAD/CAM systems, so existing common CAD/CAM systems can be used to generate milling tool path with an unequal thickness lamination. And then post process for wear compensation and EDM milling can be done to modify tool path by adding wear compensation. The micro turbine blades of which the material is nickel alloy (GH4169) were successfully fabricated by using this strategy. The diameters of turbine are 2.8mm, and the height of each blade is 0.4mm.

Résumé :
In this work, a numerical analysis of the dynamic frequency responses of sandwich plates with micro-lattice core is presented. The finite element analysis is implemented in the commercial software Abaqus/Standard, calculating the natural frequencies and eigenmodes of sandwich plates containing defects on the micro-lattice structure. In order to include the presence of defects, an aleatory algorithm is developed in MATLAB. The effect of the damage percentage, cell type, cell size and material on the frequency and modal responses of the sandwich plates is highlighted. Results show that the dynamic frequency response may be useful for analysing practical issues related to non-destructive damage identification of imperfections in the micro-lattice core of sandwich structures.

Résumé :
A method for simulating coupled electromagnetic and mechanical vibrations on arbitrarily shaped piezoelectric structures is presented. This method is based on weak forms and can be implemented in any finite-element-method software, allowing editable access to their definitions. No quasi-static approximation is imposed, meaning that magnetic fields generated by displacement currents within piezoelectric materials are captured, enabling the flow of electromagnetic energy inside and around structures containing such material to be accurately simulated. The method is particularly relevant to the design of piezoelectric antennas, resonators, and waveguides exploiting either bulk or surface-acoustic waves. The accuracy and capabilities of the method are demonstrated by simulating, in COMSOL Multiphysics, (i) a Rayleigh mode on the surface of Z-cut lithium niobate crystal and (ii) a torsional mode of a cylinder of lead zirconium titanate (PZT-5H) ceramic functioning as a micro-antenna.

Fabrication and terahertz wave properties of alumina micro photonic crystals with a diamond structure were investigated. The three-dimensional diamond structure was designed on a computer using 3D-CAD software. Acrylic diamond structures with alumina particles dispersion were formed by using micro-stereolithography. Fabricated precursors were dewaxed and sintered in the air. The electromagnetic wave properties were measured by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. A complete photonic band gap was observed at the frequency range from 0.40 to 0.47 THz, and showed good agreement with the simulation results calculated by the plane wave expansion method. Moreover, a localized mode was obtained by introducing a plane defect between twinned diamond structures. The one-way transmission of the electromagnetic wave was realized by using this twinned photonic crystal with the graded diamond structure. They corresponded to the simulation by the transmission line modeling (TLM) method.

Résumé :
The important role of reactive ion etching (RIE) technique is to etch the semiconductor surface directionally. The purpose of the current research is to fabricate polysilicon micro-gap structures by RIE technique for future biosensing application. Therefore zero-gap microstructure of butterfly topology was designed by using AutoCAD software and finally the designed was transferred to commercial chrome glass photomask. Ploysilicon wafer samples were selected to achieve high conductivity during electrical characterization measurement. The fabrication process starts from samples resist coating and then by employing photolithography through chrome glass photomask the zero-gap pattern of butterfly topology was transferred to resist coated sample wafer followed by resist stripping from exposed area and finally by reactive ion etching (RIE) technique the open area of polysilicon was etched directionally at different etching time to fabricate micro-gap structure on wafer samples. The spacing of fabricated micro-gap structures will be further shrink by thermal oxidation (size reduction technique) until to nanosize gap spacing. The proposed nanospacing gap will definitely show the capability to detect the bio molecule when inserted into the gap spacing.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this study is to present a multi-scale analysis methodology for calculating the effective stiffnesses and the micro stresses of helically wound structures efficiently and accurately. The helically wound structure is widely applied in ocean and civil engineering as load-bearing structures with high flexibility, such as wire ropes, umbilical cables and flexible risers. Their structures are usually composed of a number of twisted subcomponents with relatively large slender ratio and have the one-dimensional periodic characteristic in the axial direction. As the huge difference between the axial length and the cross-section size of this type of structures, the finite element modeling and theoretical analysis based on some assumption are usually unavailable leading to the reduction of computability; even the optimization design becomes infeasible. Design/methodology/approach Based on the asymptotic homogenization theory, the one-dimensional periodic helically wound structure is equivalent to the one-dimensional homogeneous beam. A novel implementation of the homogenization is derived for the analysis of the effective mechanical properties of the helically wound structure, and the tensile, bending, torsional and coupling stiffness properties of the effective beam model are obtained. On this basis, a downscaling analysis formation for the micro-component stress in the one-dimensional periodic wound structure is constructed. The stress of micro-components in the specified geometry position of the helically wound structure is obtained basing on the asymptotic homogenization theory simultaneously. Findings By comparing with the result from finite element established accurately, the established multi-scale calculation method of the one-dimensional periodic helically wound structure is verified. The influence of size effects on the macro effective performance and the micro-component stress is discussed. Originality/value This paper will provide the theoretical basis for the efficient elastoplastic analysis of the helically wound structure, even the fatigue analysis. In addition, it is necessary to point out that the axial length of the helically wound structure in the general engineering problems that such as deep-sea risers and submarine cables.

Résumé :
3D printed hair-like micro-structures have been previously demonstrated in a novel micro-fluidic flow sensor aimed at sensing air flows down to rates of a few milliliters per second. However, there is a lack of in-depth understanding of the structural response of these ‘micro-hairs' under a fluid flow field. This paper demonstrates the use of lattice Boltzmann methods (LBM) to understand this structural response towards a better optimization of the micro-hair flow sensors designed to suit the end applications' needs. The LBM approach was chosen as an efficient alternative to simulate Navier–Stokes equations for modeling fluid flow around complex geometries primarily for improved accuracy and simplicity with lesser computational costs. As the spatial dimensions of the sensor's flow channel are much larger in comparison to the actual micro-hairs (the sensing element), a multidimensional approach of combining two-dimensional (D2Q9) and three-dimensional (D3Q19) lattice configurations were implemented for improved computational speeds and efficiency. The drag force on the micro-hairs was estimated using the momentum-exchange method in the D3Q19 configuration and this drag force is transferred to the structural analysis model which determines the micro-hair deformation using Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. The entirety of the LBM Fluid–Structure Interaction (FSI) model was implemented within MATLAB and the obtained results are compared against the numerical model implemented on a commercially available software package.

Résumé :
Micro/nano-electrical discharge machining is an alternative preparation method for surface micro/nano-structures, but it is difficult to precisely control the size of the micro/nano-structures due to its unclear material removal mechanism. Thus, it is useful to study its machining mechanism to achieve high-efficiency and controlled processing. At present, most of the established EDM thermal models for predicting the discharge crater size are based on the classical Fourier heat conduction law, assuming that the conduction velocity of heat energy is infinite. However, the single-pulse discharge time of micro/nano-EDM is transitory (<1 μs), and thus, the steady state heat balance condition cannot be achieved in a single-pulse discharge time. In order to predict the size of the micro/nano electrical discharge craters more accurately, the non-Fourier effect was considered to study the temperature field distribution of micro/nano-EDM of single-pulse discharge machining. Firstly, the classical Fourier heat conduction law was modified by introducing a relaxation time. Secondly, several key factors were considered to establish the thermal model of micro/nano-EDM in single-pulse discharge machining. Subsequently, numerical simulation software was used to solve the thermal model for obtaining the temperature field distribution of the workpiece material and predicting the size of the discharge craters. Finally, the predicting accuracy of the new thermal model was evaluated by comparing the relative error between the simulated values and experimental values. The comparison results show that considering the non-Fourier effect can reduce the average error of the thermal model from 33% to 10%. The non-Fourier effect is more obvious under the shorter discharge time of a single pulse.

Résumé :
Finite element method (FEM) is the most widely used approach in the simulation of micro-nano devices before actual fabrication. Using simulation software, 2D and 3D structures of the device are designed, meshed, and then simulated to optimize their parameters. In this work, we modeled and simulated the hydrodynamic trapping of micro-particle (μP) representing for single-cell in the microfluidic system. Besides, the interaction between μP and fluid, the effect of flow velocity, and the pressure field variation for increasing the trapping efficiency were investigated. Besides, a fully understanding the behavior of micro-particle during the trapping process is exhibited. Based on the achieved results, the optimization of the design will be adjusted as a pre-step before being used for fabrication and experiment. Résumé :
Peer-to-Peer (P2P), Transactive Energy (TE) and Community Self-Consumption (CSC) are exciting energy generation and use models, offering several opportunities for prosumers, micro-grids and services to the grid; however, they require numerous components to function efficiently. Various hardware devices are required to transmit data and control the generation and consumption equipment, whereas software is needed to use the gathered information to monitor and manage the hardware and energy trading. Data can be gathered from a variety of origins from within the grid and external sources; however, these data must be well-structured and consistent to be useful. This paper sets out to gather information regarding the hardware, software and data from the several archetypes available, focusing on existing projects and trials in these areas to see what the most-common hardware, software and data components are. The result presents a concise overview of the hardware, software and data-related topics and structures within the P2P, TE and CSC energy generation and use models.

Résumé :
In order to provide effective power for small aerocraft, this paper offers a design of an electromagnetic vibration energy harvester based on MEMS technology, which works in special launching environment. According to "mass-spring-damper" system theory, this paper firstly built a model of the pick-up system, and discussed the pick-up system's response to sinusoidal input and impact load. Then, an energy conversion system was modeled, in order to analyze the system's power output. ANSYS simulation has been done on the pick-up system of different structures & parameters, and the relationship between different structures & parameters and the energy harvester voltage output has been studied. Based on the theoretical analysis and software simulation, the designed energy harvester working high frequency vibration environment can produce voltage over 200mV, which is enough for micro-sensor, low-power circuit in aerocraft.

Résumé :
In this article, the dynamic responses of wind turbine systems are analytically and numerically investigated. For this purpose, analytic differential equations of motion of wind turbine components subjected to vibration (the blades, the nacelle, and the tower) are solved. This allows determining their dynamic characteristics, mode shapes, and natural frequencies. Two models of two three-dimensional (3D) micro-turbine that are created by the finite element method are set up using the new version of the academic finite element analysis software ANSYS. The first wind turbine is a standard micro three-bladed turbine and the second one is a micro six-bladed Rutland 504. Their natural frequencies and mode shapes are identified based on the modal analysis principle to check the validity of designed models. Dynamic behaviors at several operating conditions of wind turbines are established. Then, spectrum graphs of the structures along x-, y- and z-axis are analyzed.

Résumé :
This paper presents a comprehensive biomimetic design approach to developing novel load bearing lightweight vehicle structures inspired by the structural properties of animal bones. Lightweight vehicle structures developed in this way would have increased stiffness at significantly reduced weight. In this research, trabecular (cancellous) bone was analyzed at the metaphyses of four different species including rat, rabbit, chicken, and sheep. Three-dimensional models of bone structures were reconstructed from micro-CT scanned images using the computer aided design software Mimics. Force resistance and energy absorption properties of relevant bone structures subjected to quasi-static compression loads were investigated and analysed using the Finite Element (FE) method. Based on the obtained results, the paper discusses the effects of load directions, bone structure allocation and model thickness on the energy absorption and force resistance of the bone structures. The simulation results obtained in this research were compared to the results of conventional vehicle side intrusion bars.

Résumé :
AbstractA new, scalable process chain for the fabrication of curved micro-structured metallic tools is developed and evaluated. Arrays of arrows, circles, semicircles and rings with final lateral dimensions of 124 to 819 µm are realised on the tools and successfully transmitted in one process step to stainless steel workpieces with a functional area of 6.5 cm2 using pulsed electrochemical machining. Photolithography-etching or micromilling are applied as initial micro-structuring processes, resulting in micro-structured master forms. These forms are copied into reusable silicon forms. This is followed by epoxy casting and electroforming to obtain the final tools. The tools are made of Nickel and have a diameter of 34 mm. Whilst micromilling, photolithography, silicon casting, epoxy casting and electroforming copy the structures very precisely, the wet etching process induces a widening of the dimensions due to the isotropic character of the process. The advantage of the process chain is the reusability of the master as well as of the silicone forms, which can be copied very precisely and easily with scalable processes to get precision tools with relatively large micro-structured areas. The reusability of the forms makes the fabrication of micro-structured tools relatively cost-efficient. The use of photolithography as the initial structuring process enables the generation of arbitrary, user-defined geometries for the micro-structures on the tool surface. The process chain described has the potential to fabricate lateral structure sizes on tools down to one micrometre.

The length, perimeter and area of structures can be easily measured, sequentially numbered, scaled, mapped and stored on floppy disk. The hardware for the system (Fig. 1) costs under $2000 and MacMeasure is available at no cost from the authors. The intuitive Macintosh point and click paradigm for command selection is used to operate the software. The commands available include Point, Line, Area, Scale, Map and Help (Fig. 2). Point is used to count the number and location of items in the photograph. Line is used to measure the length of lines and Area measures the perimeter and area from which the shape factor F is calculated. The measured line or area is displayed on the Macintosh screen at high magnification after each measurement is made.

Résumé :
Knowledge of the structural arrangement of atoms in solids is necessary to facilitate the study of their properties. The best and most detailed structural information is obtained when the diffraction pattern of a single crystal a few tenths of a millimeter in each dimension is analyzed, but growing high-quality crystals of this size is often difficult, sometimes impossible. However, many crystallization experiments that do not yield single crystals do yield showers of randomly oriented micro-crystals that can be exposed to X-rays simultaneously to produce a powder diffraction pattern. Direct Methods routinely solve crystal structures when single-crystal diffraction data are available at atomic resolution (1.0-1.2Å), but fail to determine micro-crystal structures due to reflections overlapping and low-resolution powder diffraction data. By artificially and intelligently extending the measured data to atomic resolution, we have successfully solved structures having low-resolution diffraction data that were hard to solve by other direct-method based computation procedures. The newly developed method, Powder Shake-and-Bake, is implemented in a computer program PowSnB. PowSnB can be incorporated into the state-of-the-art software package EXPO that includes powder data reduction, structure determination and structure refinement. The new combination could have potential to solve structures that have never been solved before by direct-methods approach.

Résumé :
In view of the shortage of structural defect monitoring methods for deep submersibles, numerical simulation and experimental research on underwater SAW propagation based on interdigital transducers are carried out in this paper. PVDF interdigital transducer (PVDF-IDT) has shown considerable potential in the application of structural health monitoring because of its micro size, soft material characteristics, and the characteristics of long-term bonding on the surface of the tested structure. In order to realize the application of IDT on submersible or underwater structures, it is necessary to understand the influence of underwater environment on IDTs with different structures. The underwater attenuation of IDT with 2–5 mm wavelength and the underwater attenuation of Lamb (A0 mode) wave on a 4 mm thick titanium alloy plate is obtained through COMSOL software simulation. The experimental verification shows that the simulation results match with the actual situation, which proves that COMSOL software can accurately calculate the acoustic attenuation of surface waves at the solid–liquid interface. At the same time, the underwater attenuation of IDT with different structures is very different, providing important design parameters for the underwater interdigital transducer. In this paper, it is found that the Lamb wave has significant advantages over the Rayleigh wave in the health monitoring of underwater thin plate structures.

Abstract Scientific and methodological foundations of identification, recognition, classification of micro-objects using redundant information structures - morphometric, histological, fractal characteristics of images have been developed. Mechanisms for extracting statistical, dynamic, specific characteristics and rarefaction of redundant information structures are proposed. Dynamic models have been developed, combined with the capabilities of neural networks. Computational schemes for preliminary processing of images, texture, segmentation, filtering, approximation, regulation of variable values and optimization have been developed. Methods of recognition and classification of micro-objects with tools for obtaining images from a photo, video camera, digital microscope, interactive measurement, counting, structure determination, statistical analysis, isolation and segmentation, and the formation of informative (reference) points of image contours have been investigated. The traditional computational schemes of a multilayer neural network, a Kohonen neural network, and a radial-basic network are investigated. Modified algorithms for training a network with mechanisms for adjusting the values of variables, monitoring errors along the boundaries of permissible values, accounting for stationary, quasi-stationary and non-stationary behavior of image points during the formation of training samples have been developed. Generalized algorithms for the identification of images of pollen grains are proposed. The efficiency of the algorithms was investigated according to the criteria of the root mean square error and the speed of information processing. A software package for visualization, recognition, classification of images of pollen grains has been developed, the implementations of which have been tested taking into account the conditions of a priori insufficiency, uncertainty and nonstationarity of processes.

Résumé :
AbstractMicro- and nanoscale structures produced on surfaces of metals, polymers, ceramics, and glasses have many important applications in different fields such as engineering, medical, biological, etc. Laser ablation using ultrashort pulses has become the prominent technique for generating different surface structures for various functional applications. Ultrashort laser ablation proved to be ideal for producing structures with dimensions down to the nanometre scale. In comparison to other texturing techniques employed to create micro/nano features such as electrochemical machining, micro-milling, ion-beam etching, hot embossing, lithography, and mechanical texturing, ultrashort laser ablation produces high-quality surfaces at low cost in a one-step non-contact process. Advantageous characteristics of polymers such as high strength-to-weight ratio, non-corrosive nature, and high electrical and thermal resistance, have made polymers the preferred choice compared to other materials (e.g., steel, aluminium, titanium) in several fields of application. As a result, laser ablation of polymers has been of great interest for many researchers. This paper reviews the current state-of-the art research and recent progress in laser ablation of polymers starting from laser-material interaction, polymer properties influenced by laser, laser texturing methods, and achievable surface functionalities such as adhesion, friction, self-cleaning, and hydrophilicity on commonly used polymeric materials. It also highlights the capabilities and drawbacks of various micro-texturing techniques while identifying texture geometries that can be generated with these techniques. In general, the objective of this work is to present a thorough review on laser ablation and laser surface modification of a variety of industrially used polymers. Since direct laser interference patterning is an emerging area, considerable attention is given to this technique with the aim of forming a basis for follow-up research that could pave the way for potential technological ideas and optimization towards obtaining complex high-resolution features for future novel applications.

Résumé :
Microfabrication is a kind of critical technology for the development of Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS). The frequently-used microfabrication technologies are electric discharge machining, photoetching, LIGA and laser fabrication, et al. Micro structures may be fabricated by these technologies. The polymerization principle of two-photon of femtosecond laser is different from that of single-photon. Photoinitiator of photosensing material absorbs two photons simultaneously to accomplish energy level transition and to induce the material to occur photochemical reaction. For the material absorbing two photons, the energy of each photon is equivalent to half of the energy that needed by the material transiting from ground state to excited state. It is also equal to half of the energy needed by the material occurring single-photon absorption. Therefore, the photonic frequency of two-photon excitation light source is half of the single-photon light source. According to two-photon fabrication principle, machining system of two-photon of femtosecond laser is set up. Which includes light path transmission equipment, three dimensional micro displacement scanning stage and control software, et al. Involute micro gear is fabricated by two-photon of femtosecond laser generated by the system.

Résumé :
Nanostructures have been widely employed in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates. Recently, in order to obtain a higher enhancement factor at a lower detection limit, hierarchical structures, including nanostructures and nanoparticles, appear to be viable SERS substrate candidates. Here we describe a novel method integrating the nanoindentation process and chemical redox reaction to machine a hierarchical SERS substrate. The micro/nanostructures are first formed on a Cu(110) plane and then Ag nanoparticles are generated on the structured copper surface. The effect of the indentation process parameters and the corrosion time in the AgNO3 solution on the Raman intensities of the SERS substrate with hierarchical structures are experimentally studied. The intensity and distribution of the electric field of single and multiple Ag nanoparticles on the surface of a plane and with multiple micro/nanostructures are studied with COMSOL software. The feasibility of the hierarchical SERS substrate is verified using R6G molecules. Finally, the enhancement factor using malachite green molecules was found to reach 5.089 × 109, which demonstrates that the production method is a simple, reproducible and low-cost method for machining a highly sensitive, hierarchical SERS substrate.

Résumé :
Generally, characterizations of pore structures of porous biomaterials are mainly based on 2-dimensional (2-D) analysis using cross sectional micrographs. However, interconnectivity of each pore may be more important factor, when tissue ingrowth into deeper pores is considered. In this paper, using micro-CT imaging with 3-D image processing software, analyses of porous material based on 3-demensional (3-D) geometrical considerations were successfully performed. Plasmasprayed porous titanium implant (PT) and four types of sintered porous titanium implants (ST50- 200, ST50-500, ST70-200, and ST70-500) that possess different porosities (50% and 70%) and pore sizes (200-500+m and 500-1500+m) were analyzed in this study. A micro focus X-ray computed tomography system was employed to acquire microstructural information from the porous implants. Using 3-D image processing software, we performed three types of 3-D analysis including detection of the dead space (% dead pore), analysis of interconnectivity by blocking the narrow pore throat with caliber less than 52 +m (% pore with narrow throat) and analysis of material construct by contracting thin strut with thickness less than 52 +m (% construct with thin strut). ST50S and ST50L possessed interconnected porous structure with thicker strut; however, pore throat was considered to be relatively narrow. On the other hand, PT implant possesses favorable interconnectivity despite its’ low porosity; however, relatively thin strut indicate the structural disadvantage for mechanical property. These results suggest that the 3-D analysis of pore and strut structure using micro focus X-ray computed tomography and 3-D image processing software will provide effective information to develop porous implant.

The importance of an abstract in a research article has turned the focus of linguistics on Genre analysis of abstract articles. Taking into consideration this immensely researched topic, this paper aims to investigate the macro and micro structures in the Linguistics and Literature Abstracts. In the previous researches, this very comparison is never addressed by the researches, hence the present research aims to fill this gap. The corpus contained 40 abstracts, 20 of linguistics and 20 of literature from International Journal of Applied Linguistics & English Literature (IJALEL). The macro analysis was made according to the Create a Research Space (CARS) model by Swales (2004) and Ant mover software was used to analyze the corpus, while the micro analysis followed Swales and Feak (2009). The results showed that there is no significant difference between the linguistics and literature abstracts at the macro level while the differences lie at the micro level. This study will be beneficial for the novice researchers as it provides a framework of analyzing two interconnected disciplines.

Résumé :
High-resolution structural information was obtained from lysozyme microcrystals (20 µm in the largest dimension) using raster-scanning serial protein crystallography on micro- and nano-focused beamlines at the ESRF. Data were collected at room temperature (RT) from crystals sandwiched between two silicon nitride wafers, thereby preventing their drying, while limiting background scattering and sample consumption. In order to identify crystal hits, new multi-processing and GUI-driven Python-based pre-analysis software was developed, namedNanoPeakCell, that was able to read data from a variety of crystallographic image formats. Further data processing was carried out usingCrystFEL, and the resultant structures were refined to 1.7 Å resolution. The data demonstrate the feasibility of RT raster-scanning serial micro- and nano-protein crystallography at synchrotrons and validate it as an alternative approach for the collection of high-resolution structural data from micro-sized crystals. Advantages of the proposed approach are its thriftiness, its handling-free nature, the reduced amount of sample required, the adjustable hit rate, the high indexing rate and the minimization of background scattering.

Résumé :
Parametric modeling of transition tubes were implemented based on constant cross section area assumption along the main central routes on CATIA software. The key objective of modeling these similar structures is to provide more geometric configuration options and modifications of micro channels for multi phase flow systems. The modeling processes were parameterized and analyzed by CATIA “Generative Shape Design” module with the help of “Parameters” and “Relations” functions. The surface models are all designed in circular cross sections that are constrained in two ways: one is perpendicular to the main central routes of the tube for planar transitional junction, and another is, perpendicular to the sub-branch central routes for oblique transitional junction three dimensionally. Next work is emphasized on numerical simulation and experimental investigation with these geometric structures in a multi phase flow system.
