Résumé :
Abstract The frequent occurrence of sudden water pollution accidents has become a major threat to water environment safety. Although most researches have focused on constructing a pollutant source identification model and risk assessment methods for dealing with sudden water pollution accidents, a real-time, effective emergency measure for controlling pollutant diffusion, isolating and removing the pollutant, aiming at sudden water pollution accidents, has not been emphasized. Therefore, in this paper, a novel emergency approach of soft isolation was investigated to control pollution diffusion and decrease damage as soon as the accident occurred. In stage 1, the feature of pollution diffusion regarding a sudden water accident was predicted through a water quality model using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Then, a design scheme of soft isolation was constructed in stage 2 to isolate the polluted zone and attention was paid to optimizing the parameters of soft isolation. Ultimately, the mathematical model of complete purification was formulated in stage 3 to remove the pollution from the impacted zone. The results indicated that the emergency measure of soft isolation could have significant potential to control and isolate pollution occurring in a sudden water pollution accident in the future.

Résumé :
Base (seismic) isolation is a promising technology for seismic protection of buildings and other constructions. Nowadays, it is accepted that such a technique is efficient and reliable; however, it has two major limitations: soft foundation soil, and tall buildings. The first issue restrains the seismic isolation spreading, given that soft soil is frequent in densely populated areas, and usually such a soil type concentrates the highest seismicity levels. This paper aims to contribute to demonstrating that base isolation, if properly implemented, can be suitable for soft soil. A representative case study is analyzed: a 6-story reinforced concrete (RC) building with base isolation that has recently been built in Shanghai. Since the building is founded on soft soil, concern regarding base isolation suitability arose; even the Chinese design code does not recommend this solution for soft soil. To clarify this issue, non-linear time-history analyses are carried out for a number of natural and artificial seismic inputs that represent the site seismicity; the superstructure behavior is linear, while nonlinearities are concentrated in the isolation layer. The adequacy of base isolation is assessed in the superstructure (in terms of reduction of interstory drift, absolute acceleration and shear force) and in the isolation layer (in terms of axial force, torsion angle and shear strain). The relevance of soil–structure interaction is discussed. The behavior when the mechanical parameters of the isolation units have experienced important changes is also analyzed. The major conclusion is that base isolation of ordinary mid-height RC buildings founded on soft soil can perform satisfactorily in medium seismicity regions.

Résumé :
For the displacement-constraint device with hysteric-friction isolation system, the judgment condition of soft-collision between the isolation layer and displacement-constraint device is put forward, the motion equation of the isolation system in consideration of friction and soft-collision is established, the nonlinear analysis program is worked out, and several kinds of inflection points in the program are given and the corresponding processing method of the inflection points is introduced. The nonlinear response analysis of the isolation system results indicate the displacement-restraint device can ensure the upper structure safety; also can decrease the displacement of the isolated layer.

Résumé :
AbstractThis study focuses on the soft-storey behavior of RC structures with lead core rubber bearing (LRB) isolation systems under near and far-fault motions. Under near-fault ground motions, seismic isolation devices might perform poorly because of large isolator displacements caused by large velocity and displacement pulses associated with such strong motions. In this study, four different structural models have been designed to study the effect of soft-storey behavior under near-fault and far-fault motions. The seismic analysis for isolated reinforced concrete buildings is carried out using a nonlinear time history analysis method. Inter-story drifts, absolute acceleration, displacement, base shear forces, hysteretic loops and the distribution of plastic hinges are examined as a result of the analysis. These results show that the performance of a base isolated RC structure is more affected by increasing the height of a story under nearfault motion than under far-fault motion.

Résumé :
Base Isolation systems have been implemented on civil engineering structures subject to earthquakes worldwide for a number of years because of their simplicity, reliability, and effectiveness; passive isolators usually consist of members located in between the foundations and the super-structure and characterised by high damping capacity and relatively low stiffness. Devices are available typically coupling elements endowed with large translating deformability, mainly aimed at shifting the structural frequency band, with components devoted to dissipate and/or absorb the filtered transmitted energy. Although characterized by stability and low energy demand, BI devices are limited in their ability to adapt themselves to changing demands for structure response reduction. The performance of such devices may fail expectations under special, like in case of soft soil, or unexpected conditions, and, in order to optimize the overall performance of the control system, the isolated system should be embedded in a more complex system able to possibly activate some corrective actions. In the paper, with reference to steel structures, a strategy is outlined to this purpose, devoted to existing, or not, isolated constructions.

Résumé :
The thin-layered method (TLM) is very efficient to the wave propagation in layered ground and boundary element method (BEM) is very precise to solve infinite domain problems. In order to study the isolation vibration effectiveness of non-uniform three-dimensional (3D) layered ground wave impeding block (WIB), this paper is accomplished with the aid of a 3D semi-analytical BEM based on TLM, on which the Green’s function is regarded as fundamental solution of a stratified half-space. Then the active isolation effectiveness by WIB is studied under horizontal-rocking coupled loading in elastic half-space in the upper stiff-layer and lower soft-layer. The results show that the foundation of the stratification parameter and the characteristics of non-uniform have significant influence on the vibration isolation effect of the WIB, and the isolation vibration effectiveness of lower soft-layer is better than the upper stiff-layer.

Résumé :
A proposed 100 m × 100 m site for a subaqueous capping pilot-scale project in Hamilton Harbour is located in a water depth of about 15 m where the capping material will be in a relatively low-energy environment with little potential for erosion of the cap. The cap will consist of a 0.5 mm diameter clean sand that will be placed on the bottom with a tremie pipe discharge system mounted on a spudded barge. The design thickness of 0.5 m will provide an effective isolation of contaminants from the overlying water and biota. Consolidation following the placement of the cap is estimated to occur within the period of about 10–50 days. The settlement of the cap surface will range from about 14 to 21 cm. The results of a laboratory capping test, as well as theoretical results, suggest that the selected-placement technique will not disturb very soft contaminated sediments. The effectiveness of the cap will be tested by physical, chemical, and biological monitoring to ensure that the cap is placed as intended and that it prevents contaminant migration to the aquatic environment. Key words : subaqueous capping, cohesive sediments, contaminant isolation, in situ, consolidation, placement technique.

Résumé :
Network operators have been dealing with the necessity of a dynamic network resources allocation to provide a new generation of customer-tailored applications. In that sense, Telecom providers have to migrate their BSS/OSS systems and network infrastructure to more modern solutions to introduce end-to-end automation and support the new use cases derived from the 5G adoption and transport network slices. In general, there is a joint agreement on making this transition to an architecture defined by programmable interfaces and standard protocols. Hence, this paper uses the iFusion architecture to control and program the network infrastructure. The work presents an experimental validation of the network slicing instantiation in an IP/Optical environment using a set of standard protocols and interfaces. The work provides results of the creation, modification and deletion of the network slices. Furthermore, it demonstrates the usage of standard communication protocols (Netconf and Restconf) in combination with standard YANG data models.

Résumé :
The fault detection function of GLT method is approximately proportional to the square of fault value, the value of the fault detection function is lower than the detection threshold when the soft fault is small, which leads to the low sensitivity of soft fault detection and the high rate of missing detection. The IM-SPRT method rapidly increases the value of fault detection function above the threshold of fault detection by accumulating small soft fault values, so it has high sensitivity for soft fault detection, however, the end time of the fault cannot be judged timely, resulting in a high false alarm for fault detection. In view of the above problems, this paper proposes a high-sensitivity fault detection method for redundant systems based on GLT/IM-SPRT. This method uses the IM-SPRT method to detect weak and soft faults and sets the IM-SPRT method fault detection function value to zero by the GLT fault detection result, and isolates the fault with GLT. On this basis, a framework of high-sensitivity fault detection and isolation methods for redundant ADS and INS systems is designed. The simulation results of soft and hard fault detection and isolation of three-redundancy ADS subsystem level and INS sensor level show that the method in this paper can improve the sensitivity of fault detection and reduce the rate of missed detection.

Résumé :
Multicores increasingly deploy safety-critical parallel applications that demand resiliency against soft-errors to satisfy the safety standards. However, protection against these errors is challenging due to complex communication and data access protocols that aggressively share on-chip hardware resources. Research has explored various temporal and spatial redundancy-based resiliency schemes that provide multicores with high soft-error coverage. However, redundant execution incurs performance overheads due to interference effects induced by aggressive resource sharing. Moreover, these schemes require intrusive hardware modifications and fall short in providing efficient system availability guarantees. This article proposes PRISM, a resilient multicore architecture that incorporates strong hardware isolation to form redundant clusters of cores, ensuring a non-interference-based redundant execution environment. A soft error in one cluster does not effect the execution of the other cluster, resulting in high system availability. Implementing strong isolation for shared hardware resources, such as queues, caches, and networks requires logic for partitioning. However, it is less intrusive as complex hardware modifications to protocols, such as hardware cache coherence, are avoided. The PRISM approach is prototyped on a real Tilera Tile-Gx72 processor that enables primitives to implement the proposed cluster-level hardware resource isolation. The evaluation shows performance benefits from avoiding destructive hardware interference effects with redundant execution, while delivering superior system availability.

Résumé :
Summary. Chickpea crops in south-eastern Australia are affected in some seasons by poor emergence and seedling soft rot. Botrytis cinerea was isolated on a semi-selective agar medium from diseased seedlings and from samples of seed submitted by growers. The frequency of isolation from seed harvested in 1993–94 ranged from 0 to 95%. Higher isolation rates were associated with reductions in seedling establishment in 1994 estimated at 30–75%. Surface sterilisation studies showed that infection was largely external on the seed. In growth cabinet experiments at 8–18°C, seedlings grown from infected seed or from seed inoculated with B. cinerea developed soft rot, and sporulation of the pathogen on the basal stem lesions was observed. Treatment of moist seed at 50°C for 5 min or storage of seed at 20°C for 12 months reduced the frequency of isolation of B. cinerea to 0 and 2%, respectively, with no adverse effect on germination. Heat treatment of freshly harvested seed reduced the isolation frequency from 98 to 18%. The applicability of heat treatment for seed disinfestation by chickpea growers is discussed.

Application of LC-MS/MS-based molecular networking indicated the ethanol extract of octocoral Asterospicularia laurae is a potential source for the discovery of new xenicane derivatives. A natural product investigation of this soft coral resulted in the isolation of four new xenicane diterpenoids, asterolaurins O–R (1–4), together with six known compounds, xeniolide-A (5), isoxeniolide-A (6), xeniolide-B (7), 7,8-epoxyxeniolide-B (8), 7,8-oxido-isoxeniolide-A (9), and 9-hydroxyxeniolide-F (10). The structures of isolated compounds were characterized by employing spectroscopic analyses, including 2D-NMR (COSY, HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY) and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS). Asterolaurin O is the first case of brominated tricarbocyclic type floridicin in the family Xeniidae. Concerning bioactivity, the cytotoxic activity of those isolates was evaluated. As a result, compounds 1 and 2 demonstrated a selective cytotoxic effect against the MCF-7 cell line at IC50 of 14.7 and 25.1 μM, respectively.

Résumé :
Traditional photovoltaic (PV) grid-connection inverters with sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (SPWM) control suffer the problem of buck-typed conversion. Additional line-frequency transformers or boost converters are required to step-up output voltage, leading to low system efficiency and high circuit complexity. Therefore, many flyback inverters with electrical isolation have been proposed by adopting a flyback converter to generate a rectified sine wave, and then connecting with a bridge unfolder to control polarity. However, all energy of a flyback inverter must be temporarily stored in the magnetizing inductor of transformer so that the efficiency and the out power are limited. This paper presents a high-efficiency active-clamp forward inverter with the features of zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and electrical isolation. The proposed inverter circuit is formed by adopting a forward converter to generate a rectified sine wave, and combining with the active-clamp circuit to reset the residual magnetic flux of the transformer. Due to the boost capability of the transformer, this inverter is suitable for the PV grid-connection power systems with wide input-voltage variation. The operation principles at steady-state are analyzed, and the mathematical equations for circuit design are conducted. Finally, a laboratory prototype is built as an illustration example according to proper analysis and design. Based on the experimental results, the feasibility and satisfactory performance of the proposed inverter circuit are verified.

Résumé :
With the rapid development of industry and transportation, the awareness of environmental problems such as noise pollution and vibration pollution and so on, has led to an increasing interest in methods for noise and vibration isolation. The dynamic mechanical model for forging hammer foundation is analyzed firstly. Through the choice of the scheme of vibration isolation, one vibration isolation trench coupling the piles in rows was design. Grouting piles used as exterior protected structure for vibration isolation trench, which have a role of rigid vibration isolation. Soft material in-filled in the trench, which has a function of flexible isolation, can absorb the residual vibration energy penetrating through the piles in rows. It indicated by the site measurements that the surface waves should be hold back and diffracted effectively by the coupling effect of flexible isolation of the in-filled material and the rigid isolation of piles in rows.

Résumé :
Soil condition is an important research area in earthquake engineering. In this work we evaluated the impact of soil-structure interaction (SSI) and U-shaped steel damper on the isolated response of the building base. Different soils for a seismic performance of multistory buildings are systematically compared and discussed. The soil’s physical state is divided into; hard soil, medium soil, and soft soil. It was compared with the U-shaped steel damper and there is noticeable difference between them. This study concludes that the use of steel damper shaped and SSI has been effective in minimizing structural response. It was observed that interaction of the soil structure provides some flexibility to the structure by increasing the structure’s displacements. Modeling base isolation along with consideration of soil structure interaction therefore leads to better structural response prediction.

Résumé :
Vibration isolation structure of Siemens-Schottel-Propulsor (SSP) is analyzed and the parameters and optimization in vibration isolation structure is computed theoretically in this paper. The choice of parameters in vibration isolation structure is an optimization process, and it is subjected to many practical constraints. From the view of the force strength, the vibration isolation materials should be “hard” while from vibration reducing effect it should be “soft”. For the double-layer vibration reducing structure, in addition to meeting the requirement of deformation and strength, the obvious stiff difference should be arranged in structure to reduce vibration. The vibration isolation structure plays the role as a transfer functions, outputs different responses according to different excitation input. The results show that the characteristics of the exciting signals should be considered in the SSP vibration isolation structure’s design, it is important to select the vibration isolation for SSP cushion materials.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT In this study, Bacillus cereus was isolated from soft soybean curds, and a dynamic model was developed to describe the kinetic behavior of these isolates during transfer and storage. B. cereus isolates recovered from soft soybean curds were inoculated into soft soybean curd, and the levels were determined during storage at 10 to 30°C. The B. cereus counts were fitted to the Baranyi model to calculate maximum growth rate (μmax) and lag-phase duration (LPD). These kinetic parameters were then analyzed with a polynomial equation to evaluate the effects of temperature on the kinetic parameters. The developed model was validated with observed values, and the differences between predicted and observed values were determined by calculating the root mean square error (RMSE). A dynamic model was then developed with a combination of primary and secondary models to describe B. cereus growth under changing temperature conditions. B. cereus was detected in two soft soybean curd samples (5.1%) at 0.7 log CFU/g. The μmax was −0.04 to 0.47 log CFU/g/h, and the ln(LPD) was 3.94 to 0.04 h, depending on the storage temperature. The model performance was appropriate with a 0.216 RMSE and accurately described the kinetic behavior of B. cereus in soft soybean curd samples. These results suggest that B. cereus can contaminate soft soybean curds and that the models developed with the B. cereus isolates are useful for describing the kinetic behavior of B. cereus in soft soybean curd. Résumé :
Environmental vibration caused by traffic can affect the normal operation of precision instruments, and vibration-isolation measures should be taken to reduce such negative effects. The engineering background of this paper is a hard-X-ray tunnel under construction in Shanghai, China. First, field vibration measurements are used to study the characteristics of the ground traffic, maglev, subway, and other vibration sources near the tunnel, as well as the laws governing the propagation of vibration waves in the surface and soil layer. The finite-element modelling is then used to establish a two-dimensional numerical model for the field conditions, and the numerical results are compared with the field vibration measurements to validate the applicability of the numerical model for assessing the effects of environmental vibration. Finally, how the parameters of a pile-barrier vibration-isolation system, a vibration-isolation measure used widely for tunnels, influence its performance is studied. The results show the following: with increasing distance from the vibration source, the amplitude of the vibration acceleration decreases gradually, and the high-frequency part of the vibration wave is attenuated rapidly, whereas the low-frequency part is attenuated very little. The vibration-isolation effect of the pile barrier is directly proportional to the elastic modulus of the pile body, the pile length, and the hollow ratio of the pile, and inversely proportional to the stiffness of the filling material. The pile diameter, pile row number, and row spacing have little influence on the vibration-isolation effect. Increasing the pile diameter attenuates the acceleration amplitude somewhat around 10 Hz but has no effect on it around 5 Hz. Overall, the present numerical method is well suited to evaluating environmental vibration problems.

Résumé :
Introduction: Sickle cell disease is a haemoglobinopathy characterized by the occurrence of vaso-occlusive crises and osteoarticular complications. Case-Report: We report the case of an infant with sickle cell disease revealed by a bilateral abscess of the feet. Our patient is an 18-month-old infant who has had bilateral swelling of the feet for a week with fever of 40 °C, a CRP of 129 mg/l and a leukocytosis of 32,000 elements/mm3 together with normochromic normocytic anemia at 7.9 g/dl. The diagnosis of abscess was taken and a puncture was made finding a purulent fluid with isolation of Salmonella. In front of the bilateral character, Salmonella isolation and normochromic normocytic anemia, electrophoresis of hemoglobin was requested confirming the diagnosis of sickle cell disease. The progress was positive with hydration and antibiotic therapy. Conclusion: Soft-tissue Salmonella infections must lead to thinking of sickle cell disease as a diagnosis especially with normochromic normocytic anemia combined.

Résumé :
ABSTRACTNecrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTI) can be rapidly progressive and polymicrobial in etiology. Establishing the element of necrotizing infection poses a clinical challenge. A 64-year-old diabetic patient presented to our hospital with a gangrenous patch on anterior abdominal wall, which progressed to an extensive necrotizing lesion within 1 week. Successive laboratory risk indicator for necrotizing softtissue infections (LRINEC) scores confirmed the necrotizing element. Cultures yielded Enterococci, Acinetobacter species and Apophysomyces elegans and the latter being considered as an emerging agent of Zygomycosis in immunocompromised hosts. Patient was managed with antibiotics, antifungal treatment and surgical debridement despite which he succumbed to the infection. NSTI’s require an early and aggressive management and LRINEC score can be applied to establish the element of necrotizing pathology. Isolation of multiple organisms becomes confusing to establish the etiological role. Apophysomyces elegans, which was isolated in our patient is being increasingly reported in cases of necrotizing infections and may be responsible for high morbidity and mortality. This scoring has been proposed as an adjunct tool to Microbiological diagnosis when NSTI’s need to be diagnosed early and managed promptly to decrease mortality and morbidity, which however may not come in handy in an immunocompromised host with polymicrobial aggressive infection.

Résumé :
In seismic isolation design of structures located at soft soil sites or near field areas, viscous dampers (VD) are often included as part of the isolation system to minimize its maximum displacement. Due to the 90° phase angle existing between the force and displacement of the VD, the maximum force transmitted by the isolation system cannot be calculated by simply combining the forces of the isolation bearings, such as lead-rubber bearings (LRB) or high damping rubber bearings (HDRB), and VD in association with the design displacement. Conforming to the code-specified equivalent lateral response procedure for isolation design, this paper presents a formula for determining the seismic design force of the combined LRB and VD isolation system, taking into account the phase angle between the combined force of the LRB and VD and the displacement of the isolation system. The numerical results have shown that the maximum responses of the isolation system predicted by the proposed formula are conservative and comparable with those from the inelastic dynamic response history analysis.

Résumé :
In this paper, a Deep Learning approach is proposed to classify impact data based on the type of impact (Hard or Soft Impacts), via obtaining voltage signals from Piezo-Electric sensors, mounted on a composite panel. The data is processed further to be classified based on their energy, location and material. Minimalistic and Automated feature extraction and selection is achieved via a deep learning algorithm. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are employed to extract and select important features from the voltage data. Once features are selected the impacts, are classified based on either, Hard Impacts (simulated from steel impactors in a lab setting), Soft Impacts (simulated from silicon impactors in a lab setting) and their corresponding location and energy levels. Furthermore, in order to use the right data for training they are obtained from the signals as anomalies via Isolation Forests (IF) to speed up the process. Using this approach Hard and Soft Impacts, their corresponding locations and respective energies are identified with high accuracy.

Résumé :
With the aim of searching for new antibacterial compound from marine soft corals, the investigation had been conducted on antibacterial activity of an extract from soft corals Sarcophyton trocheliophorum in the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, and aqueous fractions. The antibacterial activity was tested against two Gram-positive bacteria, viz. Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), and two Gram-negative bacteria, viz. Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and Vibrio cholerae (ATCC 14035) using the agar disc diffusion assay. Among them, the n-hexane fraction was the most active against three tested bacteria, viz. Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio cholerae at the concentration 125 µg/ml, with inhibition zone 14.2, 18.2, 13.8 mm, respectively. Isolation and purification of the active component from the n-hexane fraction led to a known cembranoid-type diterpene, sarcophytoxide. The chemical structure of the isolated compound was determined by IR, MS and NMR, as well as compared to data from the literature. Sarcophytoxide showed moderate activity against B. subtilis, S. aureus and V. cholerae, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 125, 100, 125 mg/ml, respectively.

Résumé :
Further chemical investigation of the EtOAc extract of the soft coral Lobophytum varium resulted in the discovery of eleven new diterpenoids lobovarols F–P (1–11) of lobane– and prenyleudesmane–types, along with two known metabolites (12 and 13). The structures of the new metabolites were established by spectroscopic analyses, including 2D NMR experiments. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined using Mosher’s method. The complete assignment of 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic data of 12 and 13 and the identification of pyran-derived moieties in the prenyleudesmanes were reported for the first time. Anti-inflammatory activities of the isolated compounds in suppressing elastase release and superoxide anion generation in human neutrophils were disclosed for 1, 2, 4, 12, and 13. A stereospecific biosynthesis for lobanes and prenyleudesmanes from the related prenylgermacranes could explain the coexistence of lobanes and prenylgermacranes in L. varium.
