Résumé :
The street food sector plays an important role in urban areas of many developing countries. Street food represents a significant part of urban food consumption for millions of low and middle-income consumers in urban areas daily. Street foods may be the least expensive and most accessible means of obtaining a nutritionally balanced meal outside the home for many low-income people. In Davanagere city most of the vendors are poorly educated, untrained in food hygienic food, and most of the foods are not well protected from flies; street food is relatively cheap. You can get to try a wide selection of different foods in one place. Street food stands are a source of income for many families. Some street food vendors are facing problems like those that don’t have their van or shop. They have to pay a limited amount of money for this. And they earn only a little profit.

Résumé :
Life expectancy is a phenomenon that concerns both theorists and practitioners in sociological, economic, and anthropological research. Declining of mortality and enhancement of the tangible life expectancy of the population depend on the ecological condition of the environment, the level and lifestyle of the people, and the efficiency of health and medical services. According to the estimates of scientists over the past 160 years the real life expectancy increases by three months every year. Studies of factors influencing on life expectancy prove how much each individual will live. Longevity is variable and depends on living conditions, living standards, and nutrition. The main task of the government of economically developed countries is to create conditions for scientists to further research in the field of extending the human life cycle.

Résumé :
Crisis single-industry towns will remain in the foreseeable historical perspective an acute socio-economic problem both in Russia and in the rest of the world. The emergence of single-industry towns started in the beginning of the 18th century due to deep historical, geographical and socio-economic causes connected with development of territories and new types of economic activity, and single-industry towns themselves also contributed to emergence of social ideas and transformations. Dependence of the life of a town on one enterprise often related to the extractive sector, remote location of the town means increased risks for the socio-economic situation. In this respect, Russian cities do not differ from foreign ones. In Russia, at the official level, both the criteria for classifying settlements as single-industry towns and the methods of working with them are still evolving. The palette of solutions to the crisis of single-industry towns is well developed, but the complex nature of the problem leads to lack of ready-made solutions that guarantee success. The key point is elaborating the strategy for development of single-industry town with appropriate investment support mechanisms or, in some cases, even making a decision to close up the settlement and switch, for example, to a rotational method of work on the territory. The transition to sustainable development of single-industry towns requires coordinated efforts of all participants and stakeholders: business, local authorities and population, and significant political will of the state, while the Federation must fill in the gaps in the competence of regional authorities, if any. In this article the typology of single-industry towns and solutions is considered in the context of their genesis, the processes of transformation of modern economy and evolution in the perception of single-industry towns by society. Such approach should contribute to a more meaningful perception and decision-making leading to a long-term progressive improvement of the situation.

Résumé :
The literature on the study of war on economic condition of a country is very limited however a brief review of the available literature is presented below. Bloomberg et al. (2002) present an economic model of war, in which terrorist groups who are unhappy with the current situation in a country try to bring change by indulging in terrorist activities. Terrorist activities of such groups may have different results depending on the economic situation. Either they can reduce the economic activities by increasing war, or if more economic incentives are present in the economy then war is reduced for example, more employment opportunities can reduce the incentive to indulge in terrorist activities. Study is of the view that recessions in high income countries can result in higher probability of terrorist activities.

Résumé :
Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Master of Technology in Environmental Management In the Faculty of Applied Sciences Department of Environmental and Occupational Studies At the Cape Peninsula University of Technology
Rivers, lakes and streams are the only way people encounter water sources in urban areas. Human endeavours have consequently deteriorated the environmental quality provided by river systems thus rivers are supporting a fraction of their original biodiversity and abundance. Urban streams are highly valuable and sensitive systems which, can be assessed by means of impacts of urban catchment and pathway influences. Many of the problems associated with environmental quality and management of urban watercourses are as a result of poor public perception. Advances in river assessment and management has come about through the recognition that water resource problems involve biological, physical and chemical components and more recently the addition of social and economic aspects. Social public participation is therefore achieved by studying and acting on people’s values, behaviours and perceptions of environmental quality. The main aim of this research was to identify whether a difference in socio-economic status is an influential factor in people’s perception of environmental quality. The objectives of the research were to determine whether the Elsieskraal River has a perceived low environmental relevance and quality (health and aesthetics), to determine what sensitizes people about issues relating to the natural environment and to identify people’s uses and perceptions of the Elsieskraal River corridor and its importance to the enjoyment as a recreational space. The study used a qualitative approach to obtain the data using the focus group technique. The purposive sample of participants from Pinelands and Thornton were the population that this study sought to investigate. Two focus group discussions; one in each study area was conducted. The results of this study found both similarities and differences in people’s perceptions of the Elsieskraal River between the two different socioeconomic urban communities. The perceived observation that the Elsieskraal River was a canal and not a river set the foundation for the envisaged low environmental quality the river so acquired. The majority overall environmental quality scores for the attributes of aquatic life, vegetation and water quality were found to be lower than they were scientifically found to be. Two clear avenues concerning environmental information sourcing and sensitization to the public was found. Politicians and government officials were unreliable to relay environmental information of a trustworthy nature. Community newspapers were a useful tool to present theevidence of information concerning the status of the natural environment especially at a local level. Three themes namely safety, maintenance and facilities and community attachment emerged on the importance of the Elsieskraal River as a recreational space. It is recommended that further studies should examine the perceptions of other similar rivers in the urban environment, both natural and canalised within Cape Town and the greater South Africa. The findings can assist environmental managers, planners and educators identify the gaps between the scientific environmental conditions and what people’s perceived awareness and knowledge about environmental quality are (factual versus perceived). It is also recommended that emphasis and support from local authorities must be given to non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) and adjacent property owners to aid in mobilising people into “ownership of rivers” within their communities to enhance their value and utilisation.

Résumé :
The objective of the study is to analyze the effect of remittances on socio-economic conditions of rural families in Peshawar, and how remittances change the decision-making process of families. This study examines the effects of remittances on local population in three towns of Peshawar, i.e. Hayatabad, Faqir-Abad and Gulberg-area. The study is basically conducted to see how remittances bring changes in the life of the recipients. The research is quantitative, data was collected through questionnaires. For the research, a sample of 300 respondents was selected from three towns in Peshawar District. The results of the research were interpreted through statistical tools, regression model. The Ordinary least square method (OLS) was used to find out the effect of remittances on health sector and investment made by respondents in the form of purchased property and investment made in establishing their own businesses. Along with that, the simple Logit Model was also used. The result is generalized on linear model with link logit and binomial response. Findings stated that the literacy level of the emigrant’s household positively impacted on children’s probability to move to private education. The results reveals that the recipient invest 4% of their income on investment as a form of business and purchasing property while educated people appears not to be interested in investing money in businesses as they want to continue their jobs. Respondent are not using a large portion of their remittances for health perhaps mostly people are entitled to free services from the government. Remittances changed their standard of living and socio economic affairs of the remittances receiving respondents. According to my demographic information about respondents life, the remittances mostly brings changes in the physical part of people life such as Private Education, Personal transport, new houses, investment in buying properties, more electric appliances, bank balance etc., but culturally people are still conservative and believe in cultural values that have been practices by local population for centuries. Following are some main recommendations that this research has identified, Foreign remittances are improving the socio-economic conditions and decision making of rural families, however, their consumption behavior is not inclined towards investment, they rather prefer to enjoy luxurious household’s equipment. Therefore, it is recommended that these families should utilize their resources in more efficient way, and should go for short and long term investment avenues. Government must design policies in order to educate these families and create awareness among them that will enable them to look for sustainable domestic income, which would help the families in the long run. These families follow the norms and traditions, and they prefer sending their children abroad for earning purposes, which in turn is comparatively less profitable idea as compared to sending these children for higher education purpose.

Résumé :
This study investigated bilingualism effects on language, executive functions and Theory of Mind (ToM) in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). The performance of these clinical groups was compared to that of children with typical development (TD). All groups were matched on socio-economic status, IQ and chronological age (oscillating around 11 years), and were composed of a total of one hundred and twenty-two participants. Overall, children with ASD and DLD showed more difficulty than their TD peers on language tasks, and monolingual children with ASD struggled more than other groups on both EF and ToM tasks. Bilingualism boosts in executive functions and ToM emerged in bilingual children with ASD compared to their monolingual peers with ASD, however these bilingual advantages were not observed in children with DLD. More specifically, bilinguals with ASD performed better than their monolingual peers at inhibiting distracting non-verbal stimuli and at attributing false beliefs. Bilingual autistic children’s performance in the ToM task related to IQ, sentence comprehension and (marginally) to socio-economic status. Taken together, these findings highlight the selective cognitive benefits of bilingualism, which may vary depending on the children’s condition, on their individual cognitive and linguistic abilities, as well as on their socio-economic backgrounds. This work also shows that bilingualism has no negative effects on children’s development, including those with ASD or DLD.

Résumé :
Remembering the old wisdom “we need smart and healthy people”, I would like to draw attention to the fact that in our modern world we need young, educated people working with the most advanced technologies. The use of IT in the learning process as an object, means and tool can achieve better results. In the modern global world, it is necessary not only to study some of the basics of science and develop new areas, but also to introduce them widely. We are talking about active international cooperation of scientists on the basis of modern IT. The aim of the multi-year study was to study and test the possibilities of using IT to improve the quality of education. The main idea was a multidimensional study of IT and its impact on the development of the learning process. The main research methods were the analysis of forms and methods of teaching with IT based on multi-dimensional and multi-speed feedback implemented by various tools. The object of study was also IT. The result of the research was some recommendations for changing the course of lectures or classes in high school or lyceums based on ultra-fast feedback. The article originated as a generalization of scientific research of several institutions in Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Hungary and other countries. Résumé :
Agglomeration has become a priority in the territorial and economic development of the country, contributing to the improvement of the regional economy, raising the investment attractiveness of territories, increasing the sustainability of the settlement system, the interaction of municipalities in the economy, demographic and social spheres. In order to solve the resulting transport and road construction problems in the agglomeration area, the deterioration of the environmental condition of the agglomeration core, and the population outflow from cities and regional municipalities, it is necessary to study the socio-economic situation of the region's municipalities and the population's attitude to the development of the agglomeration

Résumé :
The administrative territorial reform of 2021 in Latvia has changed the shape and structure of local municipalities. Previous studies have shown that disparities and challenges in terms of demographic development will be even more evident between the newly formed municipalities than they were prior to the reform, creating greater demographic risks for the rural areas. By using the available statistical information and geographically weighted regression models, this study aims to evaluate the demographic challenges in Latvia’s rural areas and to determine main socio economic factors linked to the rural depopulation processes. Key indicators linked to the depopulation process are evaluated and discussed by the authors in the context of gender balance, development centre accessibility and other socio economic factors. Authors conclude that supporting and developing local industries, public services and infrastructure facilitating diverse employment options and equal opportunities for working age females is a paramount condition for slowing or reversing rural depopulation in in the long term. Regional development centres in general and particularly those located in remote areas show little or no immediate effect on the population dynamics. However, these centres offer more diverse employment opportunities and essential social services, making them more attractive to working age females and households with children. Digitalization and focus on location-independent employment and services is another important route to explore in the new rural development setting.

Résumé :
The relationship between the abundance of natural resources and socio-economic performance has been a main object of study in the economic development field since Adam Smith. Dominated by the verification of the so called curse of natural resource, the mainstream literature on the topic has been mostly on the study of cross sectional data at the national level, with limited empirical use of exogenous differences in the abundance of natural resources at the subnational level. We explore the case of Peru, a mining-rich middle income country where -exploiting a unique data set constructed for this purpose- we are able to assess systematic differences in district-level welfare outcomes between mining and non-mining districts. We find evidence that the condition of being mining-abundant district have a significant impact on the pace of reduction of poverty rates and inequality levels. We also estimate a heterogeneous response to the mining-abundant condition, finding stronger responses in lower-poverty, higher-inequality districts. Finally, we find a trend suggesting incremental positive marginal effects of the level of exposure to mining transfer, as proxy for the degree of abundance of mining activities, on the reduction of poverty and inequality.

Résumé :
The article discusses the possibilities of applying new forms of entrepreneurship in modern economic conditions in Russia. Under the conditions of sanctions pressure, the development of import substitution becomes even more urgent. However, this process is impossible without the search for new forms of entrepreneurial activity, the purpose of which should be the formation of the most favorable conditions for doing business in Russia by small and medium-sized enterprises. This is the basis of the mobilization economy in modern conditions, the task of which is the development of economic relations between market entities, which will give a significant increase in the economic potential and food independence of the country. The article analyzes the infrastructure of the Russian economy in the field of SMEs at the present time and as a result of the article, the author proposes a new form of entrepreneurial activity, the implementation of which also involves the development of a large part of the infrastructure of the country’s economy, which will be a significant step in development.

Résumé :
In 2015, we published a report which sought to identify the core factors which lead to project success. These conditions, subject to the situation and the judgement of the project professional, can be implemented with any project, programme or portfolio and help to best ensure project success. However, despite widespread usage we identified at the end of this research that dynamic conditions at the organisational, professional, and socio-economic levels existed that could help to shape successful project-based organisations. With this in mind and through a commissioned tender we sought with the Universities of Sussex and Southampton to further develop the findings of the 2015 report by investigating these organisational, professional, and socio-economic dynamic conditions that can enhance project outcomes.

Sergeyev, Mykola. Ukrainian National Idea in the Modern Ukrainian Media Space. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, février 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2022.51.11407.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
M. Sergeyev’s article “Ukrainian National Idea in the Modern Ukrainian Media Space” states that modern Ukrainian philosophical thought tries to get rid of the flaws and stereotypes of its one-sided orientation “to the East” and tries to establish a European orientation in the minds of Ukrainian citizens. The theoretical proof of the new worldview took place throughout the formation of the Ukrainian state from Little Russia to Ukraine and presents its actual struggle for independence. It is an integral concept that reflects the process of forming theories and views of prominent Ukrainian thinkers on the place and role of Ukrainians in the becoming and development of an independent Ukrainian state. As O. Zabuzhko emphasizes, “all Ukrainian philosophical, historical, sociological thought of the past and our centuries (including the diaspora) is permeated with the sacred idea of nationalism”. The author concludes that the logic of the historical development of the Ukrainian national idea reveals only one model of its socio-political future, which implies the need for Ukraine’s integration into the European and world community. This path requires the moral and political readiness of the entire Ukrainian society for its implementation and prevents the emergence of any other - alternative ideas. Solving this problem is complicated by the need to return to Ukraine the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Of course, this model will lead to significant political and economic tensions in society (the final severance of economic relations with Russia, the closure of non-competitive industries, the outflow of labor to the west). At the same time, the orientation of the Ukrainian national idea to the west will increase competition in all branches of production and will be a condition for further self-improvement of Ukrainian society.

Résumé :
Over the last decade, the migration landscape in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) has changed significantly. In this context, the socio-economic integration of immigrants is an increasingly high priority on the regional development and policy agenda. For this reason, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have collaborated on this joint exercise that builds on OECDs previous experience in measuring migrant inclusion as well as IDBs expertise in building data around the state of migration in Latin America and the Caribbean, and UNDPs presence on the ground and experience working with national and local governments in the region to advance their development priorities. This report provides a general overview of the state of socio-economic integration of migrants in 12 LAC countries by 2021. It presents a series of quantitative indicators related with, for instance, labor market informality, self-employment, youth employment, school attendance, reading literacy and living conditions. This exercise also relies on selected policy indicators that shed light on the regulatory framework within which migrants integration takes place. The objective is to provide decisionmakers and policymakers in host countries with useful indicators to better understand where the gaps are in terms of migrants integration and to help them identify the areas where they should focus their efforts and scarce resources.

Résumé :
While decreasing inequality is generally considered desirable, and there is a growing understanding of which policies do and do not promote equality, much less is known regarding why these policies are adopted to varying degrees of intensity in different times and places. To explain this variation, the constituencies for different policies under various conditions must be identified. This paper explores that question using Brazilian public opinion data on preferences regarding taxation, conditional cash transfers, pension schemes and educations. It is found that disagreement across socio-economic groups arises on how government should address inequality rather than whether it should do so. While poorer respondents support cash transfers more than the rich, the rich are more likely than the poor to support expenditures on public education. Contrary to what is commonly assumed, inequality seems to breed altruism among the rich regarding the quintessential poverty reduction scheme of conditional cash transfers.
