The aim of this study was to determine the respective impact of group socialization and social projection to explain prejudice among newly recruited police officers (N = 301). The first approach predicts that both right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and social dominance orientation (SDO), two fundamental determinants of prejudice, should be driven by specific norms. The second approach predicts that the perceived norms of the reference group reflect the social projection of our own attitudes and norms. These two models were tested with structural equation modeling. Emphasizing the determinant role of social norms and social influence, the results provide stronger support for the group socialization model (GSM) than the social projection model (SPM).

Abstract The theme of racial relations presented in this article is based on the results of a sociological observation which occurred in two groups of children, from distinct socioeconomic backgrounds, studying at two public schools in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This study adopts the methodological perspective of the discovery of grounded theory formulated by Glaser & Strauss (1970). The analysis of the empirical data intended to sociologically reconstruct the constitution of a prejudiced reality that emerges from the inter-subjective relationships established by children. While experimenting with a set of values, attitudes, behavior, beliefs and racial notions learned in other settings in their relationships, children learn what it means to be of one racial category or another, creating and re-creating the meaning of race and of prejudice. This article makes some concluding remarks highlighting the implications of the findings for an anti-racist policy in Brazil.

The correlates of sexual prejudice –negative attitudes toward gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals– are well-known in the literature, but the relevance of the social-political environment in which these correlates insert has received less attention. This study examines trends and correlates of sexual prejudice in El Salvador, a country frequently ranked as one of the most homophobic in the Americas. Using a representative sample from national-level surveys conducted between 2008 and 2016, it was found that the Salvadorian population displayed high levels of sexual prejudice in this period, although these levels varied significantly over time. Analysis with 2016 data showed that socially precarious conditions, religion, and traditionally gendered worldviews, were positively associated with sexual prejudice. Sexual prejudice also correlated with political and social beliefs that encompass authoritarian and misogynistic tendencies. Three clusters of predictors of sexual prejudice were identified: Religious conventionalism, unsophisticated masculinity background, and deficient democratic socialization. This study supports previous findings about correlates of sexual prejudice while highlighting the lesser-studied role of the social-political environment, and oscillations in a democratic culture, in perpetuating sexual prejudice.

Using a representative sample of Belgian adolescents (N = 1530) and both their parents, we investigated the parent–child similarity in prejudice towards different out–groups and ideological attitudes (right–wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation). Contrary to previous studies, first, we distinguished between common and specific components of prejudice to test whether the parent–child similarity in one specific type of prejudice was symptomatic of parent–child similarity in prejudice towards out–groups in general. Second, we evaluated whether the parent–child similarity in common and specific components of prejudice was related to the parent–child similarity in ideological attitudes. Third, we investigated the moderating role of political discussion in the intergenerational framework of ideology and prejudice. Results indicated that parent–child similarity was particularly pronounced for the common rather than the specific component of prejudice and that the similarity in ideological attitudes was partly related to the similarity in the common component of prejudice. Finally, adolescents who discuss social and political issues more (versus less) frequently with their parents more strongly resembled their parents in the common component of prejudice and levels of authoritarianism. These results suggest that generalized prejudice runs in families and highlight politicization of the family as an important socialization mechanism. The positive role of religion in reducing prejudice has remained a neglected theme in Psychology of religion, concerning itself mostly with prejudice and fundamentalism. Recently, noting the absence of a positive antithesis to prejudice and fundamentalism, faith development theory presents xenosophia as going beyond mere tolerance to a creative engagement with other religious faiths to develop new insights and broaden one’s own worldview. The current research undertakes a study of Muslim faith contents to get insights into how these beliefs shape construction of self in relation to other faith communities. Conducting inductive thematic analysis of faith development interviews from 12 Muslim participants from three major religious affiliations in Pakistan (equally divided for gender and ages ranging from 31 to 76 years) in an earlier research, the research analyzes a range of xenological patterns from xenophobia to xenosophia with associated potentials for inter-faith dialogue. Focusing on residents of a country with a dense Muslim population, the study carries implications for religious socialization and religious education in a globalized world.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review and synthesize published studies and practice in the “integration” of ethnic and religious minorities in Britain and The Netherlands, 1965-2015, drawing out implications for current policy and practice. Design/methodology/approach This paper is an evaluative review and report of results of work on citizenship education for young Muslims and their peers in English schools. Findings Young Muslims have positive attitudes to “good citizenship”, as Islamic socialization makes them particularly responsive to citizenship messages. But there is hard-core racial prejudice and Islamophobia in about 25 per cent of adults. In The Netherlands, this xenophobia has supported far-right politicians who are strongly anti-Muslim. This paper cites evidence that continued prejudice may lead to alienation and radicalization of some minorities. Research limitations/implications Unchecked prejudice concerning minorities can have negative implications for both majority and minority groups – this broad hypothesis deserves further research in both Dutch and British societies. Practical implications In Britain, success in Muslim schools in fostering positive citizenship implies that Muslim groups can maintain “quiet dignity” in following Islamic pathways to good citizenship. Social implications State support for religious-foundation schools should be offered to all religious groups and should not be withheld from Muslim minorities for “security” reasons. Originality/value This overview by two Muslim educators offers new insights and proposals in the acceptance of Muslim minorities in Europe.

This article is devoted to a comparative analysis of ethnic identity in interethnic and mono-ethnic families on the example of St. Petersburg, and is based on data from a sociological survey conducted in 2017. During the study, members of 106 interethnic families were interviewed and 45 mono-ethnic families were analyzed as a control group. The main conclusions of the study include the following. In interethnic families ethnic identity is established, in the case of a mono-ethnic identity it coincides with the identity of mothers, mostly Russians. In general, the influence of mothers on the ethnic self-identification of children is stronger than the impact of fathers. This is due to the dominance of maternal socialization, inherent in the national tradition, and also because most Russian mothers bring up their children in the Russian cultural environment. The attitude towards their ethnic identity in children is more indifferent compared to the sense of “national pride” inherent in most parents. For all categories of the sample, with the exception of fathers from interethnic families, cultural signs of self-identification are more important than others. Fathers of different cultures allot special importance to blood kinship. The main features of ethnic consolidation for all survey participants are cultural traditions and the native language. National identity for all survey participants, except for “non-Russian” fathers, prevails over ethnic self-determination. Ethnic prejudices dominate over religious prejudices. In comparison to Christians, Muslims are more rejecting. The presence of ethnic prejudice is not connected with membership in an interethnic or mono-ethnic family, and is most likely due to the personal attitudes of the respondents.

Strong anti-Islamic sentiments increased dramatically after the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States, leading to an uptick in prejudice and the perpetration of hate crimes targeting Muslims. Sikh men and boys, often mistaken for Muslims, suffered as collateral damage. The overall health of both communities has been adversely affected by these experiences. Faced with such realities, communities and parents often adopt adaptive behaviors to foster healthy development in their children. In this paper, drawing on interviews with 23 Sikh parents from 12 families, we examine Sikh parents’ ethno-religious socialization of their children. The confluence of media stereotyping and mistaken identities has shaped Sikh parents’ beliefs regarding their children’s retention/relinquishment of outward identity markers. Sikh parents, in general, are concerned about the safety of their boys, due to the distinctive appearance of their religious markers, such as the turban. They are engaged in a constant struggle to ensure that their children are not identified as Muslims and to protect them from potential harm. In most of the families in our study, boys were raised to give up wearing the indicators of their ethno-religious group. In addition, many parents took responsibility for educating the wider community about their ethno-religious practices through direct communication, participation in cultural events, and support of other ethno-religious minorities. Policy implications are discussed.

Nowadays, it is evident the presence of patterns that impose heteronormativity, which increasingly increases the numbers of atrocities affected against the LGBTQI + community. Recently the Federal Supreme Court attributed the penalty of crime of racism to homophobia, but it is not enough only that laws are assigned. Many cases have already been recorded, and despite the progress with the withdrawal of homosexuality from the list of WHO pathologies years ago; The prejudice towards different individuals of sexuality is rooted in the Brazilian nation, which configures Brazil as the 1st country in the ranking of LGBTfobia. Starting from the Brazilian framework, this scientific article seeks to retract from the uncertain origin of the homoaffective relationship, to the present time, and as it has faced several prejudices, from a society installed in standards that culminate to even in the deaths of several individuals in the community. Starting from a bibliographic review in applied and exploratory research, we have the objective of identifying the ideological divergences present in citizenship and how these are influenced based on the sociological concept of socialization. It alludes succinctly the criminalization of homophobia and how it has been applied nowadays, the reason why there is still ignorance of a singular sexuality that is impassive to be placed in restrictive parameters. And we also emphasize the uprising of data of the Gay group of Bahia, which, through annual reports, expresses the atrocities affected by the LGBTQI + community.

In non-formal classroom during their waiting time in transit, refugees often found it difficult to have dynamic teamwork with others from diverse sociocultural. Things considered small stuffs for some turned out to be a problematic issue to others. Their various background; home countries, ethnicities, previous socioeconomic status added to the exclusion and specific group connection with tendency of being unsettled when they were obligated to mix with their fellows outside their comfort group. Even though most of these people have experienced in moving around from one country into another, their marginal life was not a much of help to their socialization with people outside of their community. Promoting multicultural education which values diversity and includes the perspectives of a variety of cultural groups on a regular basis took longer time to decrease prejudice, tolerate changing habits and eliminate gender bias.

ABSTRACT It still becomes the issue that racial profiling is still done by the White police to Black young people in the United States. For that condition, Black people struggle to put racial profiling to an end. The struggle is reflected in one of Angie Thomas’ work, The Hate U Give, which shows the incident of racial profiling experienced by the main Black characters, Starr and her best friend, Khalil. In discussing the issue, the writer used the theory of Orientalism from Edward W. Said. The concepts used to answer research questions are Occident, Orient, and Power. The qualitative descriptive method was applied to analyze the incident of racial profiling by finding relevant quotations that contain evidence and racism. The writer found Prejudice, Stereotype, and Racial Discrimination as the causes of racialprofiling in many cases. Black people do racial socialization and the Black Lives Matter Movement to oppose racial profiling.

The general election is actually the entry point for the improvement of public welfare in various aspects, whether political, economic, social, cultural and so on. In order to make an impact elections positively correlated with the welfare of the public, in addition to the background of the prospective participants/contestants election also required the political understanding of the citizens as voters because of political literacy is one factor that plays a major role in the quality of elections in a country.In Amuntai City, Hulu Sungai Utara district, political knowledge citizens are generally relatively low where political terms not understood as it should be in addition to confusion relevance between elections and regional development. Political participation of citizens in general is still low, especially those who work in the informal sector and tend to avoid involvement in practical political activity. Although they participated in the elections, but they just do not care about the output of the election itself. Furthermore, the political interest of citizens were generally quite low because most of them assess prejudice against political activity although no doubt some of those who assess positively to the political world.To increase the political understanding of citizens in Amuntai City, suggested to the election organizers in Hulu Sungai Utara district, especially the Election Commission and the Election Supervisory Committee to conduct an intense political socialization to the community, especially in rural areas. Political socialization should be cooperating with the participation of local governments, organizations of society and universities in the area. Political parties in the region should also undertake political socialization as the embodiment of one of the functions of political parties, especially in the areas that became the basis of a mass political party concerned with promoting political ethics that typically become one of the political ideology of political parties.

Gender stereotypes continue to exist and are transmitted through media, and through social, educational and recreational socialization, which promote gender prejudice and discrimination. This paper argues that contemporary management culture does not critically engage with the social theories of gender studies, which could help in developing gender-neutral affirmative action-oriented managerial perspectives. The paper outlines different aspects of gender stereotyping and their impact on women’s career progressions from a managerial perspective, which engages with the critical theories of gender studies. The paper contributes to existing literature by identifying the antecedents of gender stereotypes and their impacts on the career progressions of women in management. It advances theoretical understanding of three clear conceptual shifts, that is, (a) Women in Management, (b) Women and Management and (c) Gender and Management. The theoretical transition from Women in Management to Women and Management led to progressive conceptual shifts in management literature but gender stereotypes continue to exist in society.

Abstract: South Korea is a popular destination for Chinese students studying overseas. Prior to the pandemic, Chinese students comprised the largest percentage of foreign students in South Korea. This paper provides insights into major trends germane to Chinese students studying in South Korea. In addition, it explores challenges that Chinese students encounter while studying in South Korean universities, which include socialization problems, Korean and English language barriers, academic difficulties, and discrimination and prejudice. It also examines historical and political issues that have an impact on Chinese people living in South Korea. Strategies for improving successful integration are discussed. These include having effective academic and social support systems, promoting intercultural communicative competence, advanced preparation before leaving China, mutual adjustment activities that enhance understanding and awareness between different cultural groups, reflective practice and quality improvement, and exposure to diverse viewpoints. Finally, practical implications, which could improve the overall adaptation of Chinese students in South Korean universities are discussed. This article is an analysis of gender discrimination discourse in education. Using qualitative methods, the literature study aims to produce substantive theoritical formations based on concept in gender discourse in education. This paper explore about the issue of gender in the educational process discrimination theoretically. The issues reviewed was what, how and what is the impact of gender discrimination in education. This study made the literature regarding themes related, formal documents on gender mainstreaming as well as qualitative data and secondary data about the gender discourse. This study uses a micro approach that is “region” process or social interactions among individuals in the process of learning, namely students and teachers, by without prejudice to the importance of the meaning of the macro approach. The results of this literature review is gender discrimination in education particularly in the learning process as a “hidden curriculum”. Gender discrimination in education occur due to the socialization process (internalization, externalization and objektivation) values of gender in the learning process so as to strengthen the gender-role identity of students and can have an impact on the achievement of education is not optimal (shortchanged).

The article is devoted to the problem of discrimination of immigrants in the socioeconomic domain, which can be considered the main obstacle by the host society for the socio-economic adaptation of immigrants. Contrasting three reputed approaches to the study of prejudice and discrimination, and exploring for groups of mainstream population with similar acculturation characteristics (acculturation profiles), using the sample of 576 Russians non-immigrants, the relationship between social worldview (dangerous worldview and competitive worldview), ideological attitudes (right-wing authoritarianism, social dominance orientation, multicultural ideology) and willingness for intergroup contact was examined. The hypothesis of moderation by the acculturation profile (bicultural, alternate-bicultural, and assimilated) to the considered relationships was not supported, the proposed conceptual model across all groups was same. In general, the results showed that representations of individuals about the social world as a dangerous and competitive place, which is formed by individual differences originating from the personal experience of socialization and impact of the existing social environment, may also be associated with the support of multicultural ideology and willingness for intergroup contact that in turn to some extent influence the endorsement of discrimination of immigrants in the socioeconomic domain.

Many reasons such as social exclusion, economic insufficiency, and prejudice make it difficult for Gypsy children to reach qualified education and cause their expectations for the future to be minimized. Yet, it is considered that the property of “inclination to music”, linked especially with Gypsies, will positively affect the motivations of Gypsy children for the school and their academic achievement and thus music education and chorus education performed in this context will make considerable contributions to the education process of the children.In this context, with a pilot classroom selected from the 4th grades in a primary school all of whose students consist of Gypsy children, chorus education studies have been carried out for an academic year. In accordance with the results obtained from the research, it has been reached the end of the fact that chorus education studies have made positive contributions to the general education, cultural awareness and socialization process of Gypsy children included in the disadvantageous groups and presenting Gypsy children with the opportunities that they can turn the music permanently present in their daily lives into an advantage in educational terms is quite important.

This article discusses the role of child protection and residential care institutions in mediating the tension between women’s productive and reproductive responsibilities in early state socialist Hungary. At a time when increasing numbers of women entered paid work in the framework of catch-up industrialization but the socialization of care work was inadequate, these institutions substituted for missing public child care services. Relying on not only policy documents but more than six hundred children’s case files, including Romani children’s files, from three different locations in Hungary as well as interviews with former children’s home residents and personnel, the article examines the regulatory framework in which child protection institutions and caseworkers operated. It points to the differentiated forms of pressure these institutions exercised on Romani and non-Romani mothers to enter paid work between the late 1940s and the early 1950s from the intersectional perspective of gender and ethnicity. Showing that prejudice against “Gypsies” as work-shy persisted in child protection work across the systemic divide of the late 1940s, the article contributes to scholarship on state socialism and Stalinism that emphasizes the role of historical continuities. At the same time, reflecting on parental invention in using child protection as a form of child care, the article also complicates a simplistic social control approach to residential care institutions in Stalinist Hungary.

People are not born with the genetic imprint of particular culture because it is the set of knowledge and behavior and the interpretation of both as habits acquired and learned by the members of society through interaction and socialization by using different media such as film. Lilting is a film that presents the issue of cultural value. It is a British drama that cultivate a vibrant dynamic between Western way of life and Asian stories. This qualitative descriptive research focused on the exploration of intercultural values from the perspective of Western-Asian Way of Life to find out the differences among British, Chinese and Indonesian culture. Data were obtained from audio visual material of lilting film and other documents, e.g. newspaper and journal about lilting film. The techniques of data analysis were done by watching, writing some notes, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The result shows that lilting contains some cultural knowledge especially the difference of western and Asian way of life, language used by England and China, cultural biases (ethnocentric, stereotype, discrimination and prejudice), people’s perception about homosexual, the way people look at kissing in public place, the way to offer food, the way people speak up in direct conversation, the process of assimilation and acculturation to a new culture, the function of a professional translator, and the most important lesson of how difficult to communicate when we do not have little bit knowledge and information of other language and culture.

The COVID-19 pandemic, its duration, and its intensity are harbingers of demographic change. In the context of social demography, it is crucial to explore the social challenge emerging from the coronavirus disease. The main purpose of this study is (i) to explore the determinants that affected the population in Greece in terms of social isolation during the lockdown period and (ii) to examine possible differences in the assessment of the social isolation factors depending on whether individuals live in urban or rural areas or regions with relative geographical isolation. Field research was conducted with 4216 questionnaires during the first wave of COVID-19 (March to April 2020). Multivariate analysis methods were applied to detect the main factors that impacted the feeling of social isolation, and nonparametric tests were performed to detect possible differences between population groups. Despite the resistance shown to the spread of the disease, the Greek population totally complied with the measures of social distancing and thus was socially and psychologically affected. The results indicate that psychosomatic disorders, employment situations, changes in sleep habits, socialization on the Internet, demographic status, health concerns, and trust in government and the media response determine the Greeks’ social isolation feeling. Pandemic and confinement measures have consequences for individuals and social groups and may prejudice social cohesion at multiple levels. By understanding how the pandemic affected the societies, interventions and public policies may be implemented to ensure both social cohesion and populations’ wellbeing by addressing the social isolation feeling.

Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a genetic / neurological condition, impacting about 2% of young children in the United States, which causes certain challenges in one’s communication, learning, socialization, and even stress management coping skills. Children with autism tend to demonstrate the presence of constrained, confined, or repetitive patterns of behaviors, activities, and interests. People with ASD learn differently than others, and their attention can be gained and maintained through repetition and routine. Individuals who have a mild or extreme form of ASD often experience more difficulty adjusting to changes in the work environment and society in general. Consequently, even though many individuals with ASD can perform their jobs successfully, they are often discriminated against and not afforded reasonable accommodations for them to gain and maintain steady employment. In this paper, we provide an overview of ASD to create awareness, along with recommendations so that more autistic adults can be employed in the workplace. Employers and manager should know that autism spectrum disorder involves a range of symptoms that cause difficulty communicating, such as flat affect (or diminished emotional expression), poor eye contact, and difficulty understanding nonverbal cues. These symptoms make it difficult to find and maintain employment, and people with autism regularly deal with discrimination and prejudice, both in and out of the workplace. Employers show less interest in hiring neurodivergent employees even if they are qualified and capable of performing the required work, and many do not provide sufficient accommodations to those that they do hire.

Currently, global education and global citizenship for social transformation addresses the issues of cordial and harmonious existence of our time. Africa is a multilingual and multicultural continent with about 3.000 ethnic groups and 2000 languages spoken; therefore, introduction of multicultural approach in teaching will ensure effective socialization and transformative education in Africa. The roots to challenge bias, prejudice and creating classroom environment that reflects the learner’s culture for national unity lies in multicultural education. Multicultural education is a system of instruction which attempts to foster cultural pluralism and acknowledges the difference between race and culture in order to promote societal change and orderliness. This work examined a multicultural educational strategy which could be used in helping students from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic and language groups to experience academic success. Multicultural Concepts Knowledge Test (r=0.82), Multicultural Concept Attitude Scale (r= 0.86) were administered on 251 junior secondary school students from five secondary schools in the south-west region of Nigeria using the simple random technique. Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, analysis of covariance. Treatment had significant main effect on students’ posttest knowledge scores in multicultural concepts (F (2,340) = 5.835; p<.05). and attitude to multicultural concepts (F (2,340) = 34.055; P<.05). The MCA shows that the cooperative learning group had higher adjusted posttest knowledge score (x =10.14; Dev. =.83) In summary, findings of this study revealed that the cooperative multicultural learning strategy is effective for teaching multicultural classrooms. Therefore, this calls for improved approaches towards teaching by educators in order to bring us closer to the goal of multicultural education

Averiguar o conhecimento da tipologia das deficiências por parte dos professores, núcleo gestor e funcionários; observar até que ponto acontece à socialização e a interação dos alunos com deficiência; verificar a participação das famílias dos alunos com deficiência, no processo de inclusão escolar e possibilitar a aplicação de curso de formação continuada sobre o tema inclusão escolar na escola referida, estendendo-se à esfera municipal. A pesquisa teve uma abordagem metodológica de cunho bibliográfico, com autores categorizados e pesquisa de campo dentro de uma perspectiva qualitativa e quantitativa, através de questionário. De acordo com a pesquisa realizada verificou-se que, na Escola Estadual de Ensino Médio Epitácio Pessoa, a inclusão escolar é um tema recente, carente de informações, e que, embora tenha acessibilidade relativa, não tem ainda o envolvimento da escola como um todo nem participação efetiva das famílias dos alunos com deficiência. Constatou-se que a escola tem Sala de Recursos Multifuncionais (SRM) e realiza o atendimento educacional especializado (AEE) embora não tenha conseguido atingir todo o público-alvo apesar da demanda por conta de preconceito em relação ao funcionamento da SRM e do AEE, confundidos que são, no cotidiano escolar, os termos deficiência com dependência, doença e incapacidade de aprender.Palavras-Chave: Deficiência, Socialização, Interação, Políticas públicas, SRM, AEE. Abstract: This study aims to investigate and make an analysis of the level of knowledge about school inclusion and the promotion of socialization and interaction of students with disabilities, pervasive developmental disorders and high skills / overprotection in the learning process anchored in the school inclusion in the period 2013 and 2014 in High School State School Pessoa in Orós / Ceará. Ascertain the knowledge of the type of deficiencies on the part of teachers, core manager and staff; observe the extent to which happens socialization and interaction of students with disabilities; verify the participation of families of students with disabilities in the process of school inclusion and enable the implementation of continuing education course on the school inclusion theme in this school, extending to the municipal level. The study was a methodological approach of bibliographic nature, with categorized authors and field research within a qualitative and quantitative perspective, through a questionnaire. According to the survey it was found that, in the State Preparatory High School Pessoa, school inclusion is a recent theme, lacking in information, and that although relative accessibility, does not have the involvement of the school as a whole nor effective participation of the families of students with disabilities. It was found that the school has Multifunction Resource Room (SRM) and performs the specialized educational services (ESA) but failed to reach any target audience despite the demand for prejudice account in relation to the operation of the SRM and the ESA, confused that are, at school, the deficiency terms with addiction, illness and inability to learn.Keywords: Disability, Socialization, Interaction, Public policy, SRM, ESA.

Oneof the ways to achieve national security is to increase the deterrence power of the community in dealing with every problem in their environment. Therefore, 15th/Kujang II Infantry Brigade strives to embody those purposes with social communication strategy through spilled market activity. Social communication development is one of several methods of Territorial Management of the Indonesian Armed Forces in the form of communication activity that is carried out effectively and sustainably. This social communication strategy is applied as a medium for socialization, as a medium for equalization of vision, mission and interpretation of media for coordination, integration, synchronization and simplication as well as a means to improve, maintain and strengthen the unity of the Indonesia Armed Forces and society in order to achieve main tasks of Indonesia Armed Forces. Yet in implementing territorial management through that social communication development, this endeavor is still not in accordance with the expected goals. Therefore, in order this spilled market activity does not seem like a common market in general, this study was conducted to analyze the social communication strategy of the 15 th /Kujang II Infrantry Brigade also the constraints in its progress through spilled market activity to embody national security in Cimahi City.In order to achieve that purpose, this research is conducted with qualitative method, depth-interview technique, passive observation and document review. This research found that social communication strategy that was conducted by 15 th /Kujang II Infantry Brigade is by educating society about social problems that occur in the society and their role in problem solving in the community. 15 th /Kujang II Infrantry Brigade also conducting territorial guidanve to the whole community that the community also plays a role in realizing national security through awareness, as it is their role as an early detection and early prevention in a society, as a form of deterrence for threats. Faktor yang cukup penting adalah kebijakan yang dinilai masih kurang sosialisasi dan sering berlawanan dengan implementasinya di lapangan. Di Kabupaten Probolinggo, Kecamatan Paiton berada di urutan tertinggi sebagai epidemi HIV/AIDS. Tujuan umum penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat pengetahuan tentang HIV/AIDS dengan stigma warga usia subur pada ODHA di Desa Pondok Kelor Kecamatan Paiton Kabupaten Probolinggo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik dengan rancangan bangun adalah crossectional. Populasi adalah semua ibu usia produktif (21-44 tahun) di Desa Pondok Kelor Kecamatan Paiton Kabupaten Probolinggo. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan Simple Random Sampling. Sampel adalah sebagian warga usia produktif di Desa Pondok Kelor Kecamatan Paiton sebesar 150 orang. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner serta dianalisis secara univariat, bivariat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan tingkat pengetahuan tentang HIV/AIDS dengan stigma masyarakat pada ODHA di Desa Pondok Kelor Kecamatan Paiton Probolinggo.Kata kunci: pengetahuan, hiv, AIDS, stigma, ODHA AbstractThe MDGs' sixth target is to combat the world's most dangerous infectious diseases. The Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV), which causes the Acquired Immune Deficiency Virus Syndrome (AIDS), is at the top of the list. Stigma and prejudice towards PLWHA are still prevalent at many levels of society. The policy, which is believed to be poor in socialization and frequently contradicts its implementation in the field, is a significant component. Paiton District is the most affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Probolinggo District. The overall goal of this research was to see if there was a correlation between HIV/AIDS knowledge and stigma among women of childbearing age in Pondok Kelor Village, Paiton District, Probolinggo Regency. This study has a cross-sectional design and is an analytic investigation. Pondok Kelor Village, Paiton District, Probolinggo Regency, with a population of all mothers of working age (21-44 years). Simple Random Sample was utilized as the sampling method. In Pondok Kelor Village, Paiton District, 150 persons of working age were sampled. Data is collected via a questionnaire and evaluated using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a correlation between the level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS with community stigma on PLWHA in Pondok Kelor Village, Paiton District, Probolinggo.Keywords: knowledge, HIV, AIDS, stigma

The principles of the Qur'an and the Prophet's recipe provide guidance to Muslims. In the first six centuries, their commercial activities and family affairs led to the Islamic Golden Age, in which knowledge, commerce, industry, agriculture, and complex organizational construction flourished. . Work and creativity are respected in many forms. Industry and trade are regulated by companies or labor unions. Companies have enormous social benefits. They maintain work standards and prevent fraudulent competition, thereby ensure a friendly society based on religious and moral grounds, and provide members with professional knowledge and shared responsibility. Honesty and serenity are the hallmarks of Muslim commodities. These guiding principles derive from certain principles and guidelines governing worship and behavior, rather than the literal spiritual meaning of the principles and guidelines chosen. Islam has five pillars: the unity of God (Sahadat), fasting, prayer, zakat and zakat. These pillars and other standards also have an impact on business organizations. The purpose of this study was to study and describe the concept of organization and management in an Islamic perspective and its implementation in Riyadlul Jannah Mojokerto Islamic Boarding School. This research is a literature study using qualitative induction methods and descriptive analysis. Based on the results of the discussion, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1) Humans are born with social abilities, need an "organization" to survive and develop in order to achieve the expected goals and adapt to their social relationships through cooperation. The principle of socialization is due to the social nature of which the Qur'an proclaims as well as possible. Several verses of the Koran emphasize the need for organization. 2) The pillars of Islam are certain principles and norms that govern worship and behavior. In this section, the principles and guidelines chosen and established have an organizational meaning, not a literal spiritual meaning. 3) The organizational design mostly adopts a dual contingency point of view, that is, the organizational design must be chosen according to the multi-dimensional characteristics of a particular environment or context. These characteristics include structural elements (such as goals, strategies, and structures) and personnel (such as work processes, personnel, coordination, and control). 4) At the initial stage, it faced several pressing social problems: prejudice and discrimination against non-Arabs; abuse of power by elites; poverty; discrimination against women; competition between tribes; and harsh collective punishment. Prophet Muhammad SAW showed confidence and creativity in eliminating or minimizing these problems through the concept of organization and management.

The present research examined the effects of egocentric motivations on individuals’ explanations for how their automatic racial prejudices came into being. The majority of participants reported experiencing biased thoughts, feelings, and gut reactions toward minorities which they found difficult to consciously control, and they attributed such biases to cultural socialization. Of particular interest, ego-threatened participants were significantly more likely to attribute their automatic racial biases to their culture and significantly less likely to attribute such biases to themselves. Results suggest that attributing one’s racial biases to cultural socialization can be a defensive, motivated process aimed at diminishing personal responsibility.

Purpose. The purpose of the study is to determine the conceptual basis of the process of consumer socialization of school-age children in view of the process of formation of a model of consumer behaviour of children in the market of food and food services. Methodology of research. The study used general scientific methods, such as analysis and synthesis in the study of existing approaches to the implementation of age periodization of childhood, the method of grouping and generalization in the process of determining basis to segment the market of food products and services. Findings. According to the results of the research, the conceptual bases of the process of consumer socialization of school-age children are formed, taking into account the process of formation of the model of consumer behaviour of children in the market of food and food services. It is noted that the marketing aspect of consumer socialization of school-age children involves the child in the process of growing up and interacting with other marketing entities experience in purchasing decisions, the formation of prejudices and patterns of consumer behaviour in the consumer market. The place of consumer socialization in the model of consumer behaviour of school-age children as a process of gaining experience, beliefs and culture of consumption is outlined. Originality. Approaches to defining the essence of the process of consumer socialization of children have been further developed. For the first time, the conceptual difference between the model of consumer behaviour of adults and children, which consists in the process of consumer socialization of a child, the place of consumer socialization of the model of decision-making on the purchase of school-age children. Practical value. Understanding the marketing aspects of consumer socialization of school-age children is of practical importance in the process of forming a marketing strategy by businesses in the market of children's food and services. Text analysis from a gender perspective, is used as method to determine the presence and treatment of gender issues in various textbooks. Admittedly, textbooks continue to play a crucial role as the basic instrument of education. Text analysis includes: text illustrations, gender stereotypes and prejudices, gender authority and leadership. On the other hand, this study, will focus on the important role of teachers which with their formation and personality, have a direct impact on students. The paper argues that every teacher should select those methods, which encourage discussion and reflection of gender situations, adapted to the cultural level and age of students. Teachers, along with textbooks should fulfill better the noble mission of education, of spiritual emancipation, material progress and the social development of students as social individuals.

Problems to understand social phenomenon associates to our misconceptions, stereotypes and prejudices imposed during our early socialization. This happens not only with tourism which is valorized as a right of all citizens in modern societies, but also with terrorism, judged as the main threat of West. However, what would happen if both would be different sides of the same coin? This essay review explores the roots of tourism and terrorism during the process of unionization in US. What on one hand resulted in a hyper-mobile process that shore up tourism, on another was a desesperate attempt to struggle against terrorism. In this vein, it is safe to say that tourism is terrorism by other means.

Through Law nº 10.436 of April 24, 2002, the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) was made official as a way of communication and expression. From it, the visual-motor language system, with its own grammatical structure, constitutes a language system for transmitting ideas and facts, originating from deaf people communities in Brazil. The Brazilian Law for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (Law nº 13.146 of July 6, 2015) establishes, among others, the provision of bilingual education, with LIBRAS as the first language, and the writing mode of Portuguese as a second language in bilingual schools and classes, as well as in inclusive schools. Within this context, a descriptive exploratory research was conducted at the Center for the Training and Support of Deaf People (CAS), in São Luís/MA. We aimed at investigating the relevance of learning Brazilian Sign Language in the socialization of deaf people, considering the perception of CAS students. Ten deaf students who were currently learning LIBRAS at the Center participated in the study, out of which seven were males and three were females aged between 17 and 36 years old. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, considering the ethical procedures involving human beings. Results indicated that deaf students learning LIBRAS at CAS do so due to a number of reasons, such as communicating with hearing people, learning, working, having autonomy, being able to leave home, making friends, and spending time with other people. Within this context, the LIBRAS interpreter is of great relevance to the social, educational and professional inclusion of deaf people, as well as a communication mediator between deaf and hearing people. However, the LIBRAS teaching-learning process still requires a more efficient socialization and/or operationalization, aiming to reach society in general, and to include deaf people, thus breaking up myths, stigmas, prejudices, discriminations and unfavorable social actions related to the disability and their human potential. Employing a sensitive look and listening to the exclusion situations many deaf people are suffering is urgently needed to safeguard the respect to the human being and to the deaf people’s culture.

This article attempts to identify gender stereotypes of modern youth living in a large peripheral city in the field of family life and intergenerational and gender relations. According to a number of researchers, in the modern world there is a "global disintegration" of the traditional system of division of social labor, power relations between men and women, which inevitably leads to the transformation of marriage and family relations. Thus, modern women are increasingly involved in the material support of the family, men are more engaged in household chores than before, participate in the education and development of children, etc. And, therefore, it is necessary to study this aspect of sociology in order to rid society of existing prejudices, stereotypes associated with the behavior patterns of men and women. The formation of gender identity is one of the first forms of human socialization. A family is the primary institution that a person gets into, and, consequently, the development of gender roles takes place here. Gender socialization affects the relationship between the sexes, allows men and women to communicate. However, it is often possible to notice misunderstandings between the sexes, which leads to the formation of stereotypes, as well as various social problems, such as: gender discrimination, a large number of divorces, domestic violence. It was supposed to find out what is the basis for the formation of such stereotypes in modern Russian society. Thanks to the results obtained, specialists working with families, as well as working with young people, will be able to improve the culture of serving visitors of different socio-demographic groups and plan their professional activities more carefully.

Binocular vision is characterized by a harmonious relation between sensory and motor systems of both eyes. This relation enables directing visual axes toward the observed object simultaneously, fusing images from two eyes, and the sense of threedimensionality. Motility and binocular vision disorders occur in manifest and latent strabismus. The irregular position of eyes in strabismus is perceived by most people as an esthetic defect. Also, psychosocial consequences and the importance of treating strabismus are very superficially explained in this context. Bearing in mind the results of recent researches, which indicate that individuals of all ages with strabismus face different difficulties in psychosocial functioning, we believe that this issue in our surroundings should be dealt with. Strabismus leads to forming prejudices which usually have a negative impact on socialization and employment opportunities. Timely treatment of strabismus has a positive influence on the functionality of binocular vision, building self-esteem and self-satisfaction, being accepted by typically developing population, the quality and quantity of social interaction. The aim of this paper is to present the relation between strabismus and psychosocial reactions with regard to the available literature.

The purpose of the article is to compare and contrast higher education and research among public relations and journalism students of middle-class and working-class origin. The paper applied Bourdieu’s theory of habitus to analyze prejudices against the working class, explores whether working-class students express an anti-education view, and whether the appreciation of education (and research in particular) is a predominantly middle-class attitude. Focus groups and an online questionnaire were used to obtain views of students at a university in Northern England. Triple coding (open, axial, selective) was used and the data was then analyzed and presented using thematic analysis. Findings show that early socialization about education as well as students’ type of neighborhoods (habitus) influence studies’ views of higher education and research in particular. While the findings show some similarity with views in the literature of the middle-class being more inclined to value education, these findings show that this is true only for those who grow up in middle class areas whereas middle-class students who grew up in working-class areas show working-class attitudes toward education. Equally, working-class students who grew up in middle-class areas show what is usually perceived as a middle-class view of education. Both groups of students show a tendency toward embracing a consumerist view of higher education.

In the years following the emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement, American cinema was looking for a way to appropriately address the issue of police brutality against people of color. Filmmakers, often inspired by real-life events, began developing stories focused on the trauma of witnessing lethal police violence. Three films released in 2018 – Blindspotting (dir. Carlos López Estrada), Monsters and Men (dir. Reinaldo Marcus Green) and The Hate U Give (dir. George Tillman Jr.)– emphasize how the aftermath of such experiences affects young people of color and their communities. This article aims to explore the role of witness testimony in trauma-centered narratives and examine how the contemporary American cinema visualizes racial trauma. To achieve that, the films will be analyzed within the context of trauma studies, including theories regarding both individual and cultural trauma. Moreover, studies focused on the socialization of Black children will help demonstrate the transgenerational impact of trauma. All three films share common motifs: they represent the psychosomatic aspects of trauma through similar cinematic techniques and see value in witness testimony, even if it requires personal sacrifices from the protagonists. They also portray parents’ worry about their children’s future within a prejudiced system and the struggle to prepare them for it. All these issues have been previously addressed in the public and academic discourse and are now being reflected in cinema. Film proves to be a suitable medium for representing trauma of witnessing police brutality and cinema will most likely remain a vital part of the debate about dismantling racist systems for years to come.

This research, examining the perception of classroom teacher candidates about the gender equality through the personal experiences of the teacher candidates, is a qualitative study. The phenomenological pattern was adopted. Data were collected in two stages: The participants were asked to provide written responses to the open-ended questions for clarifying which concepts are used for explaining the gender equality, which factors cause the gender inequality and how the equality will be ensured. Next, focus group discussion was carried to find the situations that the classroom teacher candidates encountered in their learning process. The results reveal that the role of men and women, generated by the cultures of different societies but the individuals should have equal rights and opportunities and every kind of discrimination about sex should be prevented. The causes of inequality: Socialization, social roles. The factors causes the inequality are the religious beliefs, prejudices, patriarchy. For the equality, it is necessary to raise awareness, the roles in the family should be re-arranged and women employment should be supported. The results of the focus group discussion announced that biological gender was effective in choosing the profession: Men were more successful in professions working with numbers and producing some concrete products, while the women should be employed in professions that would guarantee the emotional and physical security. Women are successful in the management because of their maternal roles and they attach a great importance to details and organization. However, the governance, in other words, the power is the men's specialty.

Los hallazgos se basan en el método de investigación narrativa y entrevistas a profundidad. Encontramos once categorías que describen las concepciones epistemológicas que conforman su práctica investigativa: posición epistemológica, la Historia y otras disciplinas, el tiempo en la Historia, las fuentes en la Historia, limites epistemológicos de la Historia, rupturas paradigmáticas, corrientes epistemológicas en el siglo XXI, empirismo en la Historia, la imaginación en la Historia, concepción de ciencia y prejuicios hacia la Historia.Por último, reflexionamos que este profesor-investigador tiene suma claridad sobre sus concepciones epistemológicas, rescatando el valor del conocimiento y socialización de la teoría de la Historia como un eje que favorece la calidad de la investigación y enseñanza de esta disciplina. EPISTEMOLOGICAL CONCEPTIONS IN HISTORY: THE NARRATIVE STUDY OF A TEACHER-RESEARCHER ABSTRACT This article presents some of the results of a narrative study that deals with the epistemological conceptions of a research professor in history. The findings are based on the method of narrative inquiry and in-depth interviews. We found eleven categories that describe the epistemological concepts that make up its research practice: epistemological position, history and other disciplines, time in history, the sources in history, history, paradigmatic, current epistemological ruptures in the 21st century, empiricism in the history, imagination in history, conception of science and prejudices towards the history epistemological limits. Finally, we think that this professor has utmost clarity about their epistemological conceptions, recovering the value of knowledge and socialization of the theory of history as a shaft which promotes the quality of the research and teaching of this discipline. Abstract In recent decades, women have begun to take up types of physical activity traditionally considered masculine. They appeared in previously one-gender team sports such as football or water polo, and nowadays they are also involved in ice hockey, canoeing, and are active in numerous combat sports as well. On the other hand, men have entered sport fields previously only available to women, such as rhythmic gymnastics. By this, sport can be regarded not only as a scene of gender stereotyping, but also a scene of redefining the concepts of masculinity-femininity in the negotiating of gender relations. Owing to these phenomena, there has been an emergence of studies analyzing sports from a gender aspect as well as the generalizations related to athletes involved in these sports. These studies have primarily focused on the constructions of gender identities and gender roles of women participating in traditionally masculine sports (football, weightlifting, and bodybuilding). This paper presents the results of empirical research designed to explore the opinions of top athletes involved in sports considered to be the most masculine and most feminine by the public and by sport experts: rhythmic gymnastics and boxing. They discussed their own sport and each other’s sport. With the information obtained from the structured interviews (n=22), it became possible to compare their social background, sport socialization and sport selection, as well as their conceptions of gender roles, femininity, and masculinity. As a conclusion of the research, it can be stated that from the aspects examined differences could mostly be observed in the circumstances of sport selection, but representatives of the two sports also diverged remarkably in their judgments about each other’s sport. While female boxers did not voice extreme opinions about rhythmic gymnastics, representatives of the sport regarded to be the most feminine reflected on boxing in a stereotypical and prejudiced way, even given their lack of experience.

Studies on relations between health and environment indicate that accessibility positively influence healthy life expectancy, as accessible home environment and neighbourhood support mobility, daily activities and social participation in old age. One of the tasks in the EC 7th framework research project innovAge (2012-2015) aimed to develop an IT tool to support seniors’ involvement in decisions about their housing options and help them to become active partners in choice and supply of housing. This study aims to explore seniors’ opinions about accessibility in their physical home environment based on analysis of data - interview records and notes - from two study stages in the research project innovAge (WP2). Participants, at the first stage - 8 seniors and at the second stage - 10 seniors, represented variety of living conditions, family situations and functional abilities. Participation in the study was voluntary and the participants had right to withdraw from the study at any stage. Usually, barriers in home environment seniors consider late, when functional abilities decreases substantially. The most common places where environmental barriers appear are sanitary spaces, kitchen and entrance of the home. Despite the environmental barriers and functional limitations, seniors remain in their homes, mainly because in Latvia do not exist traditions to seek options for relocation, as well as there are no policies and services to support this. In few municipalities options exist to adapt home environment, but it refers only to cases of severe disability for persons using wheelchair. Usually, the need for environment adaptations for seniors is replaced by care services, thus meeting also the needs for seniors’ socialization. Regarding possibilities to adapt home environment, strong prejudices exist (bath vs. shower, disadvantages of living on the first floor, etc.). Seniors admitted that they lack knowledge and experience on housing adaptations, but emphasized that the environmental accessibility in a wider context, including the neighbourhood and services, is essential. The close cooperation with participants facilitated the researchers’ understanding of the seniors’ complex views and needs regarding their home environment and related issues, which are important for developing housing policies for senior citizens in Latvia. Despite the specified accessibility problems in home environment, the seniors evaluated usability of their homes generally high.
